Stark is a GREAT guy. take his class, and go to his office hours!
Do NOT take bio 191 from anyone else on campus! Be careful who your lab TA is, some of them don't know much.
My favorite professor! Great guy, fun to listen to, knows exactly what he's talking about. No curveballs on exams, and willing to help anytime!!
Dr. Stark is really funny and nice. A lot of his study guide and test material is more deductive than what he directly covers which makes studying for his class hard.
Awesome teacher. He's SO funny too, and he doesn't even try... which makes it even funnier. Makes learning about plants semi-interesting. That's tough to do.
This is a class where doing the study guide pays off. I know many people who do not even open the book, but just do the study guide and do perfectly fine.
Well, I got an A so I'm biased! Absolutely outstanding teacher, had fun in my lab with Christine. If you're going to take this class you should do what I did and take Dr.Stark for lecture and Christine for lab.
Great teacher. Explains information so it can be easily understood. Gives a precise lecture, and is overall funny. Easy to approach with question. I'd recommend him to anyone!
Best professor ever! He is hilarious and so easy to talk to. It is a very easy class, I never even opened the book. Just attend every lecture and go over the study guide. very straight forward. Derek is an awesome TA. Wish Stark taught all Bio classes!!
He’s a brilliant prof. His lectures were interesting & easy to understand. Exams were fair and straight out of the study guide. You actually learn in his class without it feeling like a tooth extraction. Like somebody wrote before this, do NOT take 197 with anyone else. Stark's the best!
great professor! very easy to understand. pretty funny!
Made this class fun. Funny guy. Study sessions help A LOT!
Dr. Stark is probably the funniest guy that I have ever met. He makes learning about fungi and moss interesting. Always finds time during his lecture to tell a funny story. He's awesome.
Take him, take him, take him!! There are only 2 tests and a final, which kinda sucks, but he provides study guides that have EVERYTHING you need to know for the test. So if you have a good memory, take him!
One of the best professors in the biology department hands down. He has a review sheet that helps you do well on the test. He lets you challenge questions for points. Take him for BIOL 197.
Excellent teacher and lecturer. Prof. Stark understands the material for this course very well and the tests are fairly easy if you understand everything and do the review sheets. Highly recommended.
Probably the best prof. I've had. I enjoyed his class greatly. His lectures actually make you think about the material being taught and he makes them entertaining. He really cares about his students and lets you argue any test question. The exams are straight forward, you just need to do the study guides and you will do fine. Take him!!!
Stark was awesome! My favorite teacher at UNLV. I wish he taught more classes.
This is the second time I have taken Prof. Stark and he is a great teacher! He makes sure that you understand the material as best as he can explain it and he even admits if he doesn't have an answer to something. The study guides help out a lot for the tests so doing them is the best thing you can do. You won't regret taking him!
Dr. Stark is very helpful and is very willing to answer any questions you may have about the lecture material. As long as you go to class and do the study guides you should do well. Going to class is important because he interprets the graphs a certain way. He makes his lectures very interesting and, as other have said, he is great!
Awesome professor, he is extremely helpful if you ever have questions... really loves what he teaches,,, tells very amusing stories and just plain flat out makes class fun = ) great professor, outstanding... straight forward tests, do study guide and you will do fine... definately recomend as a teacher = )
Excellent professor. The class is not that easy, though. It is true, you just have to memorize the study guide and you will be fine. But completing it takes effort. With that in mind, I loved this class, I learned so much and he really cares about how we are doing. Make sure you go to office hours for help.
It was a hard class, but he made it fun and really tried to get everyone to understand it. If you study the study guide you can pass the class.
He is an amazing professor. He likes to get to know his students. His exams are extremely fair with a very gracious curve. Do his study guides, answer questions in class, go to office hours and your practically given an A in his class. Only down side is that he only teaches this class every other semester. I highly recommend Stark!
THE BEST PROFESSOR ON THE FACE OF THE PLANET! YOU NEEEED TO TAKE STARK!! seriously... he makes class a blast to attend.. always tells jokes and is even funny without trying. The class is very interesting and fun and he is always helpful. You will absolutely enjoy this class!!! Do the study guide and attend class and you will get an A+. Awesome prof
(Ecology) Hands down, the most entertaining, enjoyable, least intimidating biology class I've ever taken. I really enjoyed not just the class but the atmosphere as well, Stark makes class FUN! Excellent professor.
He's an extremely funny and nice guy but his tests are really confusing. He's not a hard professor but the way he teaches and the format of his tests just drew me nuts. I ended up with a C because of his confusing tests. Overall, I would recommend a different and more organized professor.
STARK IS THE BEST PROFESSOR! He makes class so much fun, cares about his students, jokes in class, very helpful, always available during office hours, friendly, gives extra credit, and grades fairly! I took him for Bio197 and I liked him so much that I took him again for ecology 341! Awesome guy! I highly recommend taking his classes :]
Dr. Stark is by far one of the best professors at UNLV. His lectures are informative, well presented, and even when the information is boring (such as the "root" lecture!) his positive attitude shines through the classroom, keeping the minds that want to learn active. I would highly recommend this professor. A++.
so.. to put it quite simply.. (and excuse my language) but...PROF STARK IS THE SHIT! hes so awesome. take him if you can. i promise you wont go wrong
great prof. recommended.
Llo is amazing. In every way imaginable!!
dr.stark is a good person and scientist. qualities combined, i think he is an above average prof, but a lot of these ratings may be a bit misleading.. people let how much they like stark as a person interfere with how good of a professor he is.
Prof Stark is awesome!! Loves what he teaches, always positive and upbeat in class. Silly but that's what makes class so enjoyable. Extremely helpful, actually cares about his students. Generous curves at the end of the semester. Go to class, powerpoints and notes are on the test. TAKE HIM!! One of the best professors ever for such a tough subject.
Llo is an awesome prof. Made class a blast to attend although it really isn't necessary. 3 exams plus a final. Gives study guides which help a ton and posts past exams online. One of the best BIO prof I have encountered in the dept. Class is not easy, but it is definitely passable with average effort. Take LLO for 197 if you can! A++
Dr. Stark is a great teacher. He makes class fun to go. However he isn't as easy as he seems. The curve seems big in the beginning but there is almost nothing at the end. His study guides get very long and confusing. But hes a great guy. Get to know him and it will help your grade. Office hours are key!
Llo is a great professor, teaches mostly off powerpoints but wants his students to understand the material instead of just memorization. He writes a study guide for every exam; the study-guides can get long and sometimes a bit redundant.I recommend attending every lecture and taking detailed notes!
When you go to office hours he gives you answers to the SG, but isnt comfortable venturing away from his original answers. he fits in fine with your standard so-so prof's at UNLV.. not very challenging. just memorize the study guide and you get an A.. & he wonders why all the 197 students that go on to take ecology don't remember anything...
people that rate prof. stark really well because they like that he wants his students to think of him as their friend instead of as their professor. there's a fine line and he crosses onto the friend side too much. its distracting from the material. i go to school to learn, not just get good grades.
Dr. Stark is by far the best professor I've had at UNLV! He's got a great sense of humor and uses it to keep his class alive. If you attend his office hours, you will see how Dr. Stark happily goes the extra mile to answer all of your questions. I went out of my way and created an account in order to rate Dr. Stark because he's just that damn good!
Great teacher! Funny! Gives study guide questions which help a lot for tests! As long as you try, you are bound to get at least a B!
Dr. Stark is a great teacher that truly cares about his students! He will help you in any way possible, you have to do the work to succeed. He is the most helpful teacher I have ever had!
STARK IS THE BEST PROFESSOR OUT THERE:)! HE IS SO HELPFUL, AND I LOVED GOING TO HIS OFFICE HOURS!!! HE SERIOUSLY IS THE MOST HELPFUL AND KIND AND KNOWLEDGEABLE PROFESSOR AT UNLV, AND PROB ANY UNIVERSITY~~IM AM JUST THAT EXCITED TO TAKE ECOLOGY WITH HIM NOW:)
Have to go to class to get information he'll have on exams. Readying the book doesn't help. Everything is from the lectures and powerpoints. Going to office hours is extremely useful. Super funny guy that is really concerned about his students understanding
Stark is a great professor. His lectures are engaging and he has a general interest in being interactive and personal with his students. You do need to go to class or you will not do well. Tests are straight from lecture. Not an easy A but he gives you EC and some curves.
Great professor. Holds office hours afterevery class where you can get help. Keeps the lectures engaging. Tests are directly off class so you pretty much have to attend. By no means easy, but virtually impossible to get a bad grade if you actually study. Would repeat.
Llo is a great professor. I recommend taking him if you will go to every class and take good notes. All of the exams are straight from lecture and he asks a lot of the study guide questions in the actual notes. As long as you attend class and do the sg, you will get an A. The only negative I can think of is the sgs are too long & time consuming!
Dr. Stark is an awesome instructor. He truly cares about the sunject and his students' progress and learning. Always holds office hours after class where you can go and get help. By no means easy, but if you attend every lecture and do the study guides, you will get a B at least no problem. Offers some extra credit too.
Stark is an awesome professor and good at breaking down difficult concepts. He is engaging, approachable and truly cares if his students are learning. He doesn't test you on anything that wasn't covered in class or on his study guide. He also doesn't try to trick you on exams like some professors. I'd recommend taking him!
The thing I loved most about Dr. Stark was that he had a sincere interest in his students. He made an effort to actually learn his students' names and get to know them. He was also a great help in office hours. His tests were fair and he was great at explaining things you didn't understand. I highly recommend taking Dr. Stark!
He was very helpful. Make sure you attend his lectures, because that is what his tests consist of.
Great professor not difficult you need to go to class and go to his office hours regularly. he does office hours as a kind of open discussion with all the students there. He wants to help students more then any of the professors i have met at unlv.
He is literally the BEST biol teacher I've ever had. He could be weird sometimes, but really,I can gurantee that EVERYBODY in my class loves him.
Dr. Stark is awesome and extremely helpful. Make sure that you ALWAYS attend the lectures and take notes.
Make sure to attend his office hours. This will really help you get ahead. Always do the complete study guide as well! Liked this class a lot. (Except for plants)
BEST biol teacher I've ever had. He has such a gradpa style. Very lovely, funny, and charming. He really cares. Just do the study guide and you'll be fine. He offers extra credit opportunities. Plus there will be a huge curve at the end of the class.
He is the most amazing professor I have ever had. He takes the time to help you if you show interest. GO TO OFFICE HOURS!!! He'll give us extra help with things we learned in class and help with study guide questions. DO STUDY GUIDE! which is practically all of the test. If you keep up with the study guide it's as if you've studied for the tests :)
Great professor. He reminds me of Woody Allen, and he is funny and very smart. The class is easy, just do the study guide and look over the old exams he posts. He just seems like he wants you to have fun learning and not bust your hump studying. Good man.
Dr. Stark is one of the best professors of the School of Life Sciences. Very organized and helpful. Gives a lot of opportunities for extra credit and a reasonable curve. He provides all the tools for the students to succeed so the only way you would perform below the average is when you slack off!
Stark is without a doubt one of the nicest professors - he actually wants you to do well. Although it may take a while to get used to the way he writes questions, the exams are easy. In addition, he gives a lot of info on what to do like research - even moreso than your SCI 101 lecture. He is the absolute best freshman teacher youll have for Bio197
Stark is really helpful and a very reasonable teacher. He provides study guides and curves the exams substantially.
okay so he does do curves but his powerpoints do not help and his class is boring and confusing. We are currently on the 2nd exam which had a 13 page study guide that did not help at all.
Dr. Stark is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He thoroughly explains everything and he always has a massive curve for each test. And go to his office hours they are very helpful. He is extremely nice and sincere and he really got me excited about biology. TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!!!
He gives you all of the material (AND THEN SOME) to succeed in this class. If you don't do well, then you didn't try. As a Bio major, you should expect a lot of work and those who complain about it are obviously not suitable for this major. He gives practice exams, extra credit(3 types), study guide, and curves. He is amazing and well knowledged !
Best professor I've had this semester. As a freshman this class was overwhelming but if you really tried you could succeed. He made the class fun and interesting. He's a weird guy, but he seems to genuinely enjoy life and enjoys teaching. Definitely a great teacher. Hope I can take another class with him.
LOVED this class! Dr. Stark is so helpful and actually wants you to do well in his class. Make sure to go to office hours often and do the study guides and you should have no problem with this class.
Professor Stark is very knowledgeable and is extremely helpful. If you go to lecture and pay attention to his powerpoints, you will do fine. He makes his exams based on what he discusses in lecture, so it is important to go.
Dr.Stark was an amazing teacher. With his teaching experience and unique personality he made bio 197 fun, easy to understand, and well organized. Dr.Stark always held office hours right after lectures, and always replied to E-mails. By far one of my favorite teachers.
Dr. Stark provides excellent examples that applies to the real world. His lectures and his study guide are practically his exams. If one studies their study guide, they will surely pass. He stays after lectures for office hours for quite a while to help those who are do not fully grasp the biological concept. He truly cares. A+ for him and I.
Simple class with a massive curve. Use the study guide, online power points, and especially the previous exams to be fully prepared. Stark also offered special study sessions before exams to help even further.
Coolest guy I've ever met, would take him again in a heartbeat. The class was very broad which made it seem easy during lecture but the exam was a little tougher than you would think. Curve was crazy high (disappointing because I got an 88 but only needed a 71 to get an A) so I don't think everyone took it as seriously as necessary. go 2 office hrs
amazing teacher. Very attentive with his students and willing to help anyone who needs it. The class is by far difficult, a lot of stuff to memorize and the study guides are killers, but as long as you take studious notes, participate in his lectures and study a lot you'll be fine. My grade reflected on my not taking it seriously. he is awesome
One of the best teachers, loves what he does and is very passionate about biology. Gives sample tests and takes everything out of his slides witch are wonderful. In both principles of bio and ecology, sit in the front and get to know him it will be well worth it in the long run. If you can take him, take him honestly love this professor.
He is amazing. Definitely attend the office hours. They are group office hours, so everyone hangs out and talks about what they do or do not understand. It's a good way to meet people and network and show Llo that you are interested in getting the good grade. He allows you to challenge test questions, and he definitely is a fair grader. Best class
Stark is a great teacher. He teaches everything that's on exams thoroughly, but the material is hard still. if you're having a problem with the class feel free to talk to him because he wants to make it as easy as possible.
Llo stark is a really good professors. He lectures are interesting, his office hours are very informative for tests. The study guides are long, so study in advance you do not want to procrastinate on his exams. He does grade on a curve-saved my grade in this class
A very good professor; however, if you do not attend class the test will be tougher since some of the questions do come straight from these lectures. Do not procrastinate on the study guides and old exams because they genuinely help. Attend office hours for additional help. Most importantly, TRY TO STAY AWAKE DURING LECTURES.
He is the best teacher for Bio 197. He gives old exams, curves, and has interesting lectures. If he is teaching your class definitely take him.
Be sure to go to class and exam reviews. He holds office hours where he discusses what to focus on and provides help. He offers extra credit and curves. He gives hints and examples of what to expect on exams during reviews. His study guides are very long, if you plan to use them start as soon as he posts them.
The tests Dr. Stark gives are pretty tough, but his study guides are really good and the curves are amazing (he curves everything including the final grade and lab).
don't need textbook.. power points will not help you if you do not go to class. and his voice will put you to sleep. stopped going to class during midsemester.. still passed..
Overall great guy, but sometimes all over the place. He expects you to go to office hrs and your grade kinda depends on it. Omg his study guides- soo time consuming, but in all fairness if you do the study guide and understand the graphs, you're solid. Isn't tricky and genuinely a nice guy/professor, but you must put the time in. he's very humble.
Though attendance is not mandatory, you won't earn your A if you don't come to class. Gives you study guide for exams and they're EXACTLY what he lectures in class, so be ready to record. Only 3 exams in the semester so if there's so much to study for each exam. Gives great extra credit opportunity. I really enjoyed his class.
Amazing Professor! Go to his office hours! He goes over the study guide, so when its finally time to take the exam its so easy. I got an A on every single exam just because I went to office hours to study with him and other students. He cares so much about his students, and is more then willing to help. If you don't get an A, you didn't even try.
Lectures are very important, though it is really hard to pay attention because he goes very fast and it is easy to dose off. He provides study guides and previous tests to study in preparation for the next exam. The curves are also very generous, plus offers easy extra credit points.
Llo is one of the coolest professors out there! He curves everything even the lab so its really hard to fail the course. Goes over info quickly but theres a lot of material to go over. Gives out the old exams for the first 2 which helps tremendouly as well as making a study guide. It takes forever to finish so do it asap! Definetly take his class!!
I love Llo, he is an amazing teacher that does all to make sure that his students learn and pass his class. He gives many extra credit opportunities, gives a detailed study guide before each test, and even gives you tests from previous years to study from. He also holds office hours after every class. Pay attention and you will learn a lot.
Stark is a good teacher and a good person. He creates power points that he uses in his lectures and puts them up for students to use. He also provides study guides for his tests and offers extra credit.
Considering this was my first college biology class, Llo was amazing! He never made lectures boring, rather made them fairly entertaining with his quirkiness. Make sure to pay attention during lectures as there really aren't any assignments to contribute towards your grade. GO TO OFFICE HOURS. Talk to him outside of class, too, he's chill.
Stark Rocks! While the subject material of 197 can be intensely complex and overwhelming at times, Llo is gifted/skilled when it comes to lecture. He s also extremely generous with his time by hosting office hours after each lecture. Take advantage of office hours, show up to lectures (record if possible), and DO the study guides passing!
BEST PROFESSOR AT UNLV! He actually cares about his students unlike other professors.
Funny as hell and makes things so clear. There is a lot of hard to pronounce terminology and Llo makes sure to teach the pronunciation as well as defining the words. Very enjoyable lectures.
He posts study guides after every lecture and a study guide of the exam with answers, he has office hours after every lecture and review sessions. He even posts direct figures from the exam online! Attending lectures isn't necessary, but if you do he's hilarious and passionate.
Llo is honestly one of the sweetest professors at UNLV. He's hilarious and he genuinely cares about his students. Going to office hour will be extremely beneficial because he goes over the study guide and answers any questions from lectures. Attending lectures would probably be more beneficial towards your grade.
Dr stark is an awesome professor and person. If cared so much about students. Just go to his office hours its very beneficial. I never seen a professor like him. His test are so easy and basic questions.
Dr. Stark is an outstanding professor and just a person in general. He goes into depth on the main subjects in the chapter. I strong advise you to take Dr. Stark. He also offers extra credit!
He's one of the last professors who truly cares about his students' success. He's a great guy and is willing to help you in anyway you need. The content is not easy, but he gives you all the resources you need. I wish he taught all my classes!
Dr. Stark is a fantastic instructor. One of the last professors that cares about his students. Going to office hours are key and doing the study guide and practice exams he provides will lead to success. The study guide can be long and tedious though. Lots of graphs on exams so make sure to understand those. Overall easy class if work is put in.
Dr. Stark was fantastic. Gave a study guide for every test, had a super easy final, and was extremely accessible and kind. My only advice is to make sure you go to lecture, the power points are pretty bad if you do not go, and filling in the study guide may not give you the exact information he wanted you to know if you do not attend lecture.
Llo is one of the only professors who genuinely cares about his students success. I took him for 197 and 341 and in both classes he gave study guides for every exam and offered extra credit. The best way to get an A would be to attend his office hours since he goes through the study guides(which are very long). Definitely my favorite professor ever
Smart, great lectures, and cares about his students! His office hours are especially helpful. He even records them and posts them for those who can't attend. Gives study guides and past exams to help you prepare for tests. One of my favorite professors so far.
He goes off topic so much in lectures and his powerpoints had a bunch of questions instead of info. He was a good professor. Gives a lot of extra credit and curves the tests.
Funny, and passionate teacher. If you take 197 I highly recommend him. Good interesting lectures and he clearly lays out what you need to know for exams. Also he provides extra credit.
He starts off class with "Religion is not a substitute for science" in his powerpoints! AWESOME!! UNLV has attained a brilliant shining gem of immense rarity. Make sure you come out of class believing in evolution or you will fail him!
Definitely cares the most about students. However, teaching style is different from most professors. Office hours are integral to success and will work against you if unattended. His PPts alone are insufficient for tests. Sometimes looks for very specific answers too. He is generous with extra chances though.
Dr. Stark is one of the professors that truly cares for his students! The powerpoint slides aren't sufficient to pass his class, you would have to come to class to fill in the definitions for the figures (HINT: it will be on the exam). 3 exams, cumulative final (questions derived from earlier exam materials). Do the study guide + old exams A!
Stark offers a low quality version of the course that focuses solely on opinionated oral presentations, unsatisfying office hours, and the omnipresent creosote bush. His makeshift exams consist of inaccurate graphs and he demanded us to find better ones for him afterwards. It was easier to get an A in Ochem with Han than a B with Stark.
He is really unclear in lecture and goes all over the place with irrelevant ramblings. His exams are much more confusing now and the past exams were useless. I would go for help during office hours only to have my self esteem attacked. Never have I felt so lost in a class before.
This is such a useless class. Stark will try to talk about literally ANYTHING that he could think of to push back the material, and then he'll test us on stuff that he was suppose to teach. Class is mostly him attempting to explain concepts while also discussing about the most irrelevant nonsense he's thinking about at the moment.
Stark's a good guy and probably means well, but this class just ain't it tho. The power points have a bunch of random figures and animal pics and he isnt easy to follow in lecture. If his slides had more details or if he wasnt too off topic in lecture the class would have been perfect.
Starks class wasnt that hard if you go to class, attend all the office hours, and go over the study guide every day like you should have. Fill the study guide with what he teaches, study it everyday, and you'll get an A.
This professor is dull and boring in lecture and the subject itself isn't very fun either. If I'd have to compare this class to food I'd say it has the taste of tofu and the nutrition of spam. His powerpoints are so useless that you can't skip class.
Stark kinda looks like a middle aged Bert from Sesame Street. He talks really slow cuz you have to know everything he says to pass but he doesnt tell you that
Dr. Stark is an engaging professor because he likes to add a personal touch to his lectures (sometimes off tangent). You really have to do the study guide and ask questions during office hours to fully understand the material. He'll go over figures in the exam and answer any general post-grad advice if you ask him in office hours. Kindhearted man.
It was meh in person, but everything changed when he made it online. He dont give enough time to do the exams and it not very fun. Avoid if possible.
If you'd rather go to office hours everyday to learn instead of studying from his lectures and the textbook then by all means he's your guy. Cause his lectures are barely relevant to what youll be tested on.
Dr. Llo is honestly one of the best biology professors I have taken at UNLV. He truly cares about our education and teaches with passion. The class was interesting and not hard at all, as long as you watched the lectures and spent time answering and understanding the study guide you will be golden. Also, he curves.
These bad reviews are fake, Llo is AMAZING--the BEST bio prof at UNLV! He is very passionate about ecology and wants all of his students to succeed. He provides opportunities for extra credit and he even releases the figures on the exam so that you know what to study. Course grade is 3 exams + 1 writing assignment. Great learning experience!!
Llo is an amazing professor! Very organized and interesting lectures; watching them while working on the study guide will get you the grade you want. His exams are very reflective of the material. Assigns an essay but it's not too difficult; great grade boost. EC opportunities. Immensely caring, helpful, and funny!
Was great getting to know Llo this semester. He's a very caring and the way he had lectures set up online was beneficial to me. Uploaded a lecture file onto canvas for your discretion to watch and then during schedule class time he would have discussion to review them. Extra credit opportunity and curves tests individually according to avg.
Llo was one of the best professors Ive taken at UNLV. His exams are tough but the curve is AMAZING. Your grade is based off 3 exams and 1 easy writing assignment.
Dr. Llo is such a likable person! He really cares about his students. Although ecology is not my favorite topic I enjoyed the class. He provides study guides that prepare you for the exams and gives lots of extra credit. Dont hesitate to take Dr. Llo! Also didnt buy/use the textbooks his lectures were sufficient.
Literally one of the best Biology professors at UNLV. He's so cool and gives crazy curves. If you come to class and try, you will get an A!!! No Book! Professor Stark is always willing to help and offers after-hour class meetings. He tells you what will be on his exams! Best professor!!! Awesome guy, wish he taught all my classes! -Spiky Mask ;)
Decent. 1 research paper and 3 exams, including the final (non-cumulative). Lectures are loaded with examples and figures, make sure you understand them inside and out. Curves pretty hard but exams are tricky, NOT an easy A!
I wanted to like Lloyd and his class, but I hated it. Every1 said he was an easy A (may have been true online) but not in person. His lectures are erratic, his mic sucked so you could barely hear him, his slides have almost nothing on them and his study guides are the longest I've ever seen. I didn't enjoy him, and the class brought down my GPA.
Quizlet will make this class much easier than it already is. Study in advance and do the study guides!
