The Review she gives before a test does not relate to the test. I started out with a B+ the first couple of weeks and it went downhill from there. Do my homework everyday, but it just doesn't work out. Hard to understand and hard to focus in class. Not enough details when explaining a subject.
Worst Teacher i think. She is way too difficult to understand. BIG TIME Accent. I don't understand why she is able to teach. Anyways don't take her.
Professor Nguyen-Vo really knows her stuff! Sometimes little concepts can be confusing but she asks for feedback after every class and is always willing to provide extra help during office hours. After taking her, I feel prepared for harder classes that have yet to come.
Where to start. 4 Exams Lots of homework. HUGE Accent (ESL) which is very difficult to understand even through 16 weeks. Doesn't use the book. I would never recommend her. She will go about the most complicated way to do a problem making it so hard come test time. If you take her be ready to work you A*s off to slide by with a C.
Very nice and helpful teacher. Knows her stuff.
Terrible class. She makes a lot of assumptions that you learned and retained this class from high school. She doesn't check if the class is just not getting it and sometimes skips over parts assuming you should already know it even though it is not taught in any earlier math classes. Started with a class of 40, end with 10 and only 2 passed
I like this teacher. She has an accent but her English is near perfect. Most people don't like her because they don't put the effort/hours into the class homework. If you expect this to be like HS then don't take this class. It actually takes some effort.
She is a great teacher. She does have thick accent but you get used to it after a while. She explains things well and shows the long way and short way of doing a problem. She is helpful if you don't understand something. She makes it pretty clear on how to do something and doing your hw makes it better to understand just do ur work n ur good.
She is a great teacher. Very helpful. Will take an extra day so the class is together. Do the homework, take the online exams and you will get an A or B for sure.
She goes over the most difficult homework problems in class. It is good because you can understand what to do when you look back at your notes later. But it's extremely hard to follow her lecture and understand the concepts while she's teaching it in class. She will also not go over any homework problems in class.
offers very little review for tests, tells you almost nothing about them. has a thick accent and goes very fast through matherial
she was ok...her quizzes are nothing compare to her tests..she doesnt really care if u get the answer right on the homework. doesnt go over any questions if u have any..rushes herself to finish all the section in the textbook
HORRIble! i know its only first week of school but i have a feeling i won't learn anything in this class. I have to stick with it because i dont have any other choice. She assign way too many homework! omg *sighs
The worst math teacher I have ever had my whole life. I'm usually phenomenal at math but I severly struggled in her class. There are problems in the book that we have to do for homework that we haven't even learned from her teaching. She goes super fast on lectures and on top of that she has a heavy accent. Don't take any math class she teaches!!!!
her class is a little intense but so is life, if u do the work, read the chapters before u get in class, do your homework, do the website tests and take advantage of math lab. it all helps out. u do ur part. people who complain, want things to be easy so they breeze through life. this class mass makes me ready for harder classes for later.
if u can solve this equation u will pass hw + class wk + study b4 class + spending more time with school wrk + waisted time = passing the class. if u cant solve this equation than u will fail. step class is not for kids. spend the time studing the subject than to be complaining about it. she is a great professor. use math lab to get ahead people.
I'm good in math and I still had a hard time in her class. She's not very helpful at all. has a heavy accent and She lectures really fast, so its hard to keep up. Assigns mass amounts of homework. You will learn more from the homework than from her. The tests are harder than the homework given or what you will study. I dont recommend her at all
Her accent is terrible, the homework teaches you more than anything in class. Webassign (extremely time consuming) she talks herself in circles, sometimes it comes off as though she is unsure if she has done the problem correctly while she is teaching. kinda a push over, strictly grades homework. i dropped, wasn't worth it
So before I took this class, I actually looked her up and saw how bad her ratings were. I was worried but she is NOT as bad as these ratings are. The class is SUPER easy and the tests she gives are basically the HW assignments and she grades easy. Yes, she has an accent but it's not horrible. Overall, she's actually a good teacher. I recommend!
Really helpful in class, she will go back through step by step to explain the problem to you if you are not understanding. She does have an accent, but it's not bad at all. I would take her again in math120 if she was teaching, but she's not :/. Super easy class and I totally recommend her for anyone!
She is really a great teacher. Yes, she has a strong accent but that just means you have to pay attention more. I'm the only person in my class with an A and that's because no one asks questions or participates! Don't be lazy and do the HW, you'll get an easy A. She's not as bad as she is reflected on here.
lets stat of by saying that she is really nice and helps you when you need help!BT her class is very hard! She grades really hard and the tests were CRAZY!!! have to work really hard and spend ALOT of time. A math major should be fine i guess but if ur not a math major then take someone else
Worst math teacher you can take here at CRC. She gives easy homework but tests are way more difficult. The test problems are problems that she never goes over in class. Also she doesnt take time for homework problems if you need help for them. Also she has a heavy accent. She gets confused at times and students have to correct her mistakes
In-person class, but homework was done online. The interface called WebAssign was horrendous! Totally frustrating because you could have the right answer & still be marked wrong. She has a very heavy accent, and she only explains things one way--by writing it on the board. Going to her office hours was a waste of time. She's an inconsistent grader.
I had this professor for trigonometry and pre-calculus. She is not very easy and assigns a lot of work. Her exams are very hard. My suggestion, always show up to class and do the homework. And ask for help when you need it. I got a C+ in pre-calculus and felt I learned a lot from her class.
Worst teacher. Problems on tests n quizes is never appear on class lecture or homework. It a waste of time. Book? Buy it? Waste o money too. Her class is really boring. And example is as if you are already learn the stuffs. Never asking for help on hw.
I'm currently in her Trig with College Algebra course. She teaches from the conceptual perspective (as it should be), which is very difficult for those who haven't had it before. However, that level of understanding is necessary for success in later courses of math and science. Taking her class will show how strong your fundamentals truly are.
She is a good teacher but her work load is a lot and really be prepared when u taking her quizzes and test. Dont memorize how to do the problem but actually understand how to do and understand the concept how to do the problem. That how you able get a good grade in class. There no other way to get a good grade in her class.
She is very nice, but I personally loathe doing work online. Her accent isn't bad (and I'm really bad with understanding any accent), but her teaching style requires you to know your fundamentals very well. If it wasn't for Webassign, I wouldn't have dropped. E-textbooks are the bane of my existence.
I took precalc with her. She is my favorite math teacher so far. The only problem that i'd with her was her accent but after 3 more classes that wouldn't be a problem. She's very conceptual and teaches very well and her exam & quizzes are conceptual problems. U wont pass the class by memorizing formulas, u have to understand the course very well.
Online homework is a drag! But her lectures and classwork are helpful. She's amazingly intelligent and is extremely polite. Little bit of a language barrier, but not impossible to overcome. I would recommend her to math and engineering majors because she will expose you to more material than necessary. Don't take her if you just plan on "passing".
She is a wonderful teacher. Sure she has an accent, however she is very thorough with lectures. She's conscious of what her students need. I am very lucky to have her both math 100 and 120. Online homework on web assign was a drag but she switched to my math lab which is a bit more enjoyable. I recommend her if you care about quality education.
She does have an accent but not as heavy as expected. She is not clear at all with anything. The practice problems are very easy compared to the homework. Math Lab is a nightmare. She assigns over 15 problems per assignment and most have multiple parts. Some assignments have been due before we even learned the material.
Honestly I love her. She's super sweet and nice. People usually say she's hard because of too much homework or because they don't understand the material. Calculus and pre-cal are hard subjects and most of the time it's the students who are to blame. They either do not do the work or do not ask questions.
Awesome professor. Knows what she's talking about & her lectures are really clear. She's understanding & gives A LOT of chances to ask for help. Has an accent but not hard to understand at all. Just show up, pay attention, do the work, and go to any review she holds & you'll pass. Extremely intelligent professor that cares for her students.
She gives quizzes on the material before the homework is due. She makes you do WAY too much. In the beginning she said there would be an average of 3 homework assignments a week (1-2 for each class period). In 2 days, she assigned 7 homework assignments, quiz over the weekend, and in-class quiz. I usually don't complain but this is ridiculous!
She is one hard teacher. She teaches well though.
Don't take her if you're struggling with math .TOO MUCH HOMEWORKS tests and quizzes are way harder compared to lecture :(
She is by far the toughest math teacher I have had. She assigned in class quizes, homework, take home quizes that were very tough. Her TA put on a "workshop" but her TA was useless. I ended up taking a W in the course because it was so tough and I normally succeed in my classes
I had such a hard time in her class. I tried so hard to pass her class but with her language barrier is was tough for me. Yes super sweet lady but so much extra work. I took her for Math 34 and pass with a C. And then I wanted again to try her again for Math 100 and omg it keeps getting worse.
She's nice but very cut and dry, not warm at all. It seems like students are afraid to ask questions. Her accent is very heavy and hard to understand. If math is a breeze for you then you should do fine, but if not then don't take her class. She goes pretty fast in her lectures & it's hard to catch up sometimes. Online math lab homework is fine.
Most adamantly awful professor encountered thus far. Coming from acing AP Calc 1, I can assure you that no amount of effort or time you put in will grant you an A in this class. Lectures make hardly any sense and tests reflect about 30% of what is contained in the textbook and assigned for homework. Class average is a 57.40%. Take another professor
Sweet lady, tries to help. But she simply does not know how. If you don't necessarily catch on during her lectures (and she lectures very fast), you won't at all because the book doesn't teach what's contained in them. Uses only the "trick questions" at the end of the textbook review. Does not provide any schedule of anything. Very low pass rate.
Good: Dresses well! Bad: She solves all the easy examples in class and gives the hard ones for homework. The online homework has strict rules and is very sensitive. Very tough class. Good luck to brave hearts! Advice: Sign up for Math center along with this class, it will help.
This was a very difficult class. The lectures are fast and the in class quizzes are very hard. I ended up taking a W. Test and quiz problems were much harder than the lecture examples. She's very sweet but this class was really tough overall.
Her class is very lecture heavy and fast paced. She gives a lot of homework but gives you some time to do it. I would recommend doing all the homework and additional review problems on worksheets because anything she covers is fare game for her tests. Overall, her class is a very challenging but a pro is that she is always willing to help students
Very fast paced class. She was a very sweet professor, however she does not prepare her students well at all. Homework is much easier and does not help with tests and quizzes, only the optional work does (kinda). Will throw curve balls on the tests and quizzes. Okay at explaining concepts. Overall very hard. most people dropped in my class.
Homework is pretty much useless and notes given out were pretty common sense but then when it came to the tests, it was on a whole other level. I'd say the most helpful thing was workshop problems so do them and attend them! I've taken Calc in HS before and thought this class would be easy peasy but this class proved me wrong.
This class was quite a rollercoaster ride. Had a rough start with ch 2, but after that the other tests were doable, if you study. The homework is as expected, just questions from the textbook. Expect quizzes approx once a week. Overall, she's very friendly/her accent is a little heavy, but understandable. STUDY (or don't. You do you, boo)
Her accent is very thick. She will only give you credit if you do exactly as she taught you, shortcuts will make you lose points. The test are more difficult than the homework and the quizes. I tried going to office hours for extra help but she was never there. I recomend you find a different teacher. I'd give her a zero but I can't.
Pays a lot of attention to detail in your work shown, will mark you down for anything. Very slow paced class, if you have trouble in this area she may be the right teacher for you. Expects you to do online homework on webassign, which sucks. If your class is 2 hours, don't expect to get out early, she lectures the whole time. Quizzes every week!
The professor is a very nice person and she obviously cares deeply about her students. That being said it is a very difficult class. Tests had very low averages and a lot of people dropped. Avoid taking this teacher unless you have to.
She's nice person, and always willing to help. Everything about the class is fine, she teaches fine; The subject is hard, that is understandable. Her grading however is tough. Sometimes it's a form of feedback to catch your attention on what to fix in the future, but often times its enough to hamper your grade even if all your answers are correct.
Take this Class if you are really smart in solving exam questions. If you are someone aiming to transfer to university, I suggest you look for another professor.
Please educate your friends and other fellows oblivious of this site to know about it. It helps a great deal. Had I known about this site, I would not have picked this professor.
This is by far the worst teacher I have ever had in my entire life. This includes grade school.
Thick accent. Lectures go way too fast. Homework is generally easy, but tests and quizzes never reflect what is on the homework. I love math but she made it so difficult I should have given up on this class.
She cares about her students but she needs to re-evaluate her teaching methods. The one thing I hated the most was that the homework assigned would almost always be on webassign which is the most cancerous piece of trash website you could ever think to use. If you enter (2+2) instead of 2+2, it's marked wrong even though they're the same!!!
Absolute WORST teacher I've ever had! I had to drop the class on the last day because there was no way I would bring my F to a C. I've never struggled so hard in a class before. She bounces around in chapters and never answers questions completely. Doesn't give step-by-step notes, just a ton of examples that don't go on tests. DO NOT TAKE!
Math 120 was a review course for me from hs. Math is my strong subject but prof. nguyen is not a good teacher. There's usually 2 online hw a week that don't even appear on tests. When you ask a question she answers very vaguely. And there's a test every 1-1 1/2 weeks. She sometimes provides worksheets & study guides but no answers. I barely passed!
This professor is really nice but she does the homework all online and you have to pay for it on top of the class and the web site she uses sucks it doubt let you answer some problems and most time whole pages witch you lose points on homework I've talked to her multiple times about it no matterhow hard I try I can't improve with it online
A lot complain about her accent but its not as bad as people say. I never had trouble understanding her. Nguyen truly cares about her students and does everything to help her students succeed. Exams are based off of lecture and homework. No reason to fail when there are office hours, math center, and SIs available. put in the work and you will pass
My issue with this professor was that when I would email her she wouldn't respond to them. Also i'm not good in math when I would ask for help she didn't help me when I needed it.
This is'nt a hard class if you do the homework and actually ask questions. I got mostly As or Bs on my exams and quizzes and if you don't get something she explains it and shows you how to do it. All homework is due on Mondays and Fridays so that gives you time to work on it plus all the SI sessions are good to go to if you need extra help.
I took this class two semesters before transferring, and I'm glad I barely slid by with a C-. I'm terrible at math, so the class just exacerbated my anxiety and the teacher was not caring at all when it came to personal issues. Luckily, I went to SI sessions and passed. Focus on the hmwk early if you take her, because that was a huge % of my grade.
Very tough grader, Difficult to understand and convey information, and uses her office hours to grade for her other classes.
I went into this class with high hopes but by the end of the semester I lost all my confidence in my ability to do math. This professor does not fully explain the course subjects, instead she will rush her class through every chapter of the book and still stress that there is not enough time to explain everything.
To begin with, she is a great as a person but not as a teacher. She is always in a hurry to teach her lessons which is not suitable for people who are struggling. She gives a quiz every week and a lot of online homework which is due almost every week. A lot of practice papers as well which are also graded. If you are struggling with do not take her
Professor Nguyen makes this class extremely difficult for the purpose of preparing you for the higher division math classes. However, what makes this class difficult is her extremely thick accent and her unwillingness to explain certain topics. she uses the phrase "you should have learned this before" when the last math class I took was 5 yrs ago..
I took prof. Nguyen for math 370 and the only reason I passed was because of the tutoring center. She was extremely discouraging when you visited her for office hours because she often used that time to grade papers. So she would either rush you away or ask us to see her after class for questions. But all my classes were back to back.
Please educate your friends and collegues about the reviews on this site. Absolute WORST professor I ever had. She was extremely difficult to understand and was extremely rude to her students.
This class should not have been this difficult! but she assigns so much homework that it was absolutely impossible to keep up with the class. Her teaching style is extremely rude because she will make constant remarks like "you should have learned this before". Absolutely awful.
I passed because I took honors calc in high school But I should say that the majority of my class dropped by the first couple of weeks. I tutored half the class on my own. I feel awful for them. Please do not take her!!!
She uses a lot of shortcuts, and doesn't clearly explain her methods; you're just expected to understand & remember as soon as she teaches it. I can tell she tries her best to make sure everyone is on the same page, but she can be passive aggressive sometimes. She goes through the 2 textbooks fast and assigns 5 hw assignments weekly.
She does help outside of class with tutoring. She has a heavy accent that is hard to understand sometimes. 90% of the homework is on WebAssign, other 10% is from the book. What she lectures is different from homework, what is on the homework is different from the tests. I would take someone else if you could. Tests make up your grade. Study hard.
Gets frustrated when you ask questions, replies with "you should have learned this already".Gave over half of our class 0% on the first test of the semester because she believes over half of us cheated, she explicitly stated in a group message to the class that she was frustrated with all of us because we "did not understand the concepts taught".
Worse Professor and worse semester of my life, had to drop in March because she gave half the class a zero on the first exam because the work looked suspicious even though she watched us take the exam. She will give you a zero on any exam she thinks you cheated on. Getting a C in her class is nearly impossible so please please please do not take!
She is the worst math Professor I've come across, Give way too much hW, her lectures are so confusing and she rushed through it, never leave anytime for her students to process, grade the HW harshly, and give no feedback, and the exams are horrific! I would never recommend her to anyone, please save yourself and stay away
This course is very homework, quiz. and exam heavy. Professor Loi herself is a very genuinely nice person, but her class was not something I could recommend anyone to take. Her grading is merciless and lectures can be confusing given her accent and how she likes to jump around in material.
Don't read other reviews. This professor wants to help you to pass her class. She cares about her students and helps you if you ask her for help. Take her class and you will like math after her class
I like this professor. STat 300This is'nt a hard class if you do the homework and actually ask questions. I got mostly As on my exams and quizzes and if you don't get something she explains it and shows you how to do it. All homework is due on Mondays and Fridays. SHe cares about her students and wants them to pass with a good grade
I don't agree with other reviews. I am not good at math and I pass her class with an A. A lot complain about her accent but its not as bad as people say. I never had trouble understanding her. Nguyen truly cares about her students and does everything to help her students succeed. Exams are based off of lecture and homework. No reason to fail.
Professor Loi My Nguyen is best! She respects her students and does everything to hellp them to pass her class. He lectures are amazing. Take her!
Professor Loi My Nguyen is a very kind and solid educator. She caries about her students and helps them to pass her class.
You have to be a genius to do good in this class. Every test has a 55% class average.
I had her for most of the semester. She is very knowledgeable, and will do her best to answer your questions. At times, she can be hard to understand, but it will get easier once you get used to her. There is homework after all class sessions, and she does not take late work. Her office hours are limited, so prepare to use the math center as well.
Great lectures, wonderful professor. She cares about her students and do whatever it takes to help them to pass the class.
Don't read other reviews. This professor wants to help you to pass her class. She cares about her students and helps you if you ask her for help. Take her if she wants to pass the class and if you want to learn.
I don't understand why there are such negative comments about her. The tests are quite straight forward. Homework is due the day of quizzes but the answers are posted prior to the due date so you can check your work. on top of that she'll practically go over the whole assignment in class. She wants everyone to pass. Take her! I am taking math300
She is the worse professor at CRC. Her accent is really thick and that makes it hard to understand her. She even confused herself when explaining most problems. You won't learn anything from her, and you will need to teach yourself. She makes any problems more complicated than it should be. You will regret if you take her class.
Prof. Nguyen is definitely a caring and respectable professor. Her teaching style is easy to follow. She has a Viet accent, but is understandable. Her fault however lies in her tough grading and excessive amounts of homework. She's inconsistent on updates with Canvas. If you need help she provides resources but her hours are limited.
Great professor. She's very kind and cares about her students and wants everyone to succeed. The workload gets intense especially if you fall behind or if you struggle in math/are a slow learner. The class moves quick, but her lectures are detailed and she puts in a lot of effort to help you understand, so ask questions and take lots of notes.
