Probably my favorite professor on campus. i love this man! His classes are fun and there are always discussions. He is awesome.
Very good teacher. Likes his teaching style. His classes fill up really fast, that should say something.
He is an amazing teacher. You do have to do a paper everyday but it is worth it, you get so much out of doing your work. His classes are discussion based and very interesting and entertaining!
Very knowledgeable and has a great sense of humor. I would recommend him to anyone and next semester plan on taking him again.
He's a great guy, but class is a little more "fun" however, and not very spiritual. He's way into anecdotes and stuff, but I never heard him bear his testimony. Class isn't too hard, but papers every day took up a lot of time. Open-ended quizzes once a week. Material didn't seem very structured.
Very interesting teacher, very funny and lots of fun. Lots of discussions and interesting facts. Favorite teacher on campus
Exceptional teacher, I highly recommend him! I left the class everyday feeling better than when I went in. Easy too!
He was my high school seminary teacher, and I was also in his very first class when he started teaching at Ricks, he is a good teacher, and a really cool guy.
i had this class in 2 hour sessions at 8am and i rarely felt like sleeping. always giving interesting facts and/or stories within his lectures. quizzes, but no tests. i would suggest his class to anyone.
Great sense of humor!!! Funny and fun. No tests. Lots of papers. Quizes once a week. Loves teaching. If you do the daily reading and paper, and attend class, you will do fine.
Solid man. All that needs to be said here.
Interesting lectures, makes funny comments, has great spirit in his classes.
Bro. Pyper is a stud. He's probably the best teacher I've ever had. I always looked forward to class. Papers each class, but they're not hard. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Pretty darn good! Great fun! You didn't need to take it to get engaged to hot people!
Brother Pyper is the man! Everybody knows it. I took his prep. for eternal marriage class and now I'm engaged to the hottest guy ever! His class was awesome! I highly recommend this teacher.
Brother Pyper is the best religion teacher I've ever had. I plan my schedule around classes he is teaching. If you want to learn lots, have your testimony strengthened, and enjoy yourself everyday, take ANY class from Brother Pyper. You will NOT be sorry.
he is an reat teacher! just make sure to come every day! attendance is a bi part of the grade, study for the quizes and make sure you do the papers. overall is fun, and easy! love him to death!
Bro Pyper is the best! He has really really interesting lectures and knows a lot of cool facts and quotes. You have to write a one page paper every day for class and have a quiz once a week, but other than that it is easy and you learn a lot! It's a great class and he's a really nice easy-going guy.
He is a great teacher I learned so much in his class about the gospel.
He is just great! I had so much fun in his class.. Even though I was always late he was still really nice to me. You have to write an one page paper for every class but that is not hard. If you turn in your homework and go to class you will get an A for sure. I learned a lot from him...and he has a great sense of humor..I totally recomend him.
Brother Pyper is easily the coolest religion teacher in the world. He has a great sense of humor and is always willing to laugh. He doesn't mind being made fun of every once in a while either. If you can take a class from him, I don't think there is any question, do it!
A Religion class that won't screw up your transcript! Go for it. Bro. Pyper was fun and easy to listen to. I learned a lot.
Bro Pyper really knows how to make whatever he is atlking about interesting and still respects what others think. He is there to help you learn and not there so much to get a pay check.
If you want a professor who is fun, will make you laugh, makes you think, knows his stuff, cares about you, and makes it all interesting and spiritual while being entertaining at the same time than look no further! Simply put Bro. Pyper is the MAN and I plan on taking every class he teaches!! I guarantee you will LOVE it!!
Best Religion teacher at BYU-I. If you want an A with very little effort and a class that is fun take him. Brother Pyper rocks.
Brother Pyper is an AMAZING teacher!! I learned so much in his class! way easy! no tests, just quizzes once a week. Hillarious guy! Take from this guy! you won't regret it. Easy A for sure!
This guy has the perfect balance, he is really funny but he is so knowledgeable
Do not take his online D&C class. Especially the block class. He crams too much in, you are constantly struggling to keep up with the overwhelming work-load and aren't able to get anything out of the class other than frustration and angst. I hated this class and it isn't a class I should have hated.
This teacher is HORRIBLE! The only people that like him are the people who have a personal connection with him. If you get sick, like I did, and miss a day of class, you will not be able to make up any points, and it will hurt your grade. Wants to be the funny one in class, and does very little teaching of the gospel. This class was a huge let down
the BEST rel teacher ever. u have got to take this guy. way way funny but spiritual at the right times. I would take him all over if I could. just be ready for the quizes because if you don't do good on them u will not be happy.
Bro Pyper is the best! He is so funny and he HONESTLY makes clas SO MUCH FUN! I work my schedule around his class schedule so that I make sure I take classes from him. Quizzes are a little tough but they are in class so that rocks.
Holy crap he is funny. He teaches well. You have to write a paper every class and take a quiz every other class. Its not too difficult to get a good grade in this class, but compared to the rest of the Book of Mormon teachers he definately gives the most homework. I recommend him though.
Hes funny and makes the class interesting. I didnt learn as much from him as I did from Brother Wightman, however, in their own respective ways they are both great teachers. I recommend him.
Not always receptive to questions
Bro. Pyper is probably the best religion teacher out there. He has an amazing personality and if u care about your grade and make the effort then he certainly is willing to help. His classes are always interesting and I feel like he is there because he loves what he does. If given the opportunity, take him for sure:)
He is an amazing teacher. I love his class. He knows everyhting about everything! Loved the class!
He is a great teacher! Makes the class fun and exciting, shares great stories, but keeps the Spirit in the classroom. I recommend him to anyone!
Really an enjoyable class. I looked forward to going. I felt like I learned a lot. This has been my favorite class at BYUI.
Bro.Pyper is a great teacher! i learned more in his class than any other religion class, and i would definately recommend him to anyone! a page of homework is usually required but its really easy, just read the assigned chapters. i loved his class and looked forward to going every time
Awful! He isn't receptive to honest questions and centers his class around those annoying students that have to talk the entire time. I tried to ask questions to get something out of the class but all I got was a teacher making fun of me in front of the class.
he is one of the funniest teachers ever, totally like john bytheway. his CHURCH HISTORY class is really difficult, because you have tons of reading & homework questions (that are in random order throughout the reading.) PLUS quizes every week, which he always puts in a few trick questions. i liked him for book of mormon much more.
you will learn so much from Brother Pypers class
Bro. Pyper is the best religion teacher on campus. Very knowledgeable, and insightful. The workload is not hard, really easy weekly quizzes, but no midterm or final. Must take his class, he'll change your BYUI experience.
The best teacher I have ever had.
bro. pyper is pretty easy (for book of mormon). the only homework we ever had was an easy essay for each class. the quizzes were ok if you could actually understand what he's saying. no midterm or final. he's really funny but not very clear. he's also very nice and accomidating if you get sick. he's pretty good, overall. i would take him again.
Loved this class. His insights are amazing to listen to. Only things due are a one-paged paper each class, and a quiz every week in class. The papers are peer graded (out of 10). Bro. Pyper is amazing!
If you are looking for an easy Rel course, dont take him. Comparatively speaking, His courses are much harder. I think he has a lot of good insights. Sometimes i felt he paraded his knowledge and humor. The quizzes are kinda sucky, just dont miss those quiz days. Bottom line, Good teacher, but I recommend castro for BOM.
I really enjoyed his class. He expects you to know your stuff, and sometimes will have random quiz questions about obscure comments he made in class. He knows his stuff, and is very clear about what is his opinion and what is documented fact, which I really appreciate in a Church History class.
Bro. Pyper is a super funny guy! At first I tried to get into a different class because of his daily page long papers. Believe me when I say I'm one of those people who tries to get professors that will pass you for showing up. But, after a while the page papers were easy and going to class was WELL worth it! I loved this class. Pyper=Awesome!
DO NOT TAKE THE ONLINE CLASS!!! it's horrible and frustrating. He makes you search for random vague answers in piles of information. It's totally IMPOSSIBLE to do everything for the class he wants you to do. Plus, it's BORING. horrible.
awesome!
Bro Pyper was the easiest teacher I've ever had. He made his class really interesting and he is really funny. Those who rate him bad or think he's hard shouldn't be in college. If you show up to class you'll get an A.
I've taken every religion class from this man. He's awesome! He's strait out of east L.A. and he's not afraid to admit it.
Super funny and knowledgeable, this class has an okay workload, and everything is organized and you always know what is expected. Being in class is just fun and you learn a lot of interesting things about church history, I highly recommend taking any class you can from Bro Pyper.
Seriously, take from Brother Pyper! Funniest guy ever! Way down to earth too. I loved this class because he tells a lot of interesting stories from early church history. 1-sided paper per class on the assigned reading and a quiz every Thursday.
Brother Pyper was AWESOME! I had him for two hours once a week Monday mornings. I get really tired easily from staying up studying, but he kept my attention EVERY class this semester! I'm taking him for 121 next semester and can't wait! The work is tedious, but it's way easy! Most of the grade comes from whether your read or not. Awesome guy!
Brother Pyper is hilarious! Keeps your attention very well. Really listen to his lectures and take notes so that you do well on his tests. He is awesome!
He is HILLARIOUS! I honestly laughed so hard almost every class. The only homework was reading the scriptures. There were weekly quizes, but no tests. He is extremely entertaining and you learn quite a bit! I definitely recommend him.
He was a great teacher who knew the material and taught the discussions well. I am definitely taking him again!
I took Prep for Marriage from him, and he did an amazing job! He's one of those teachers that can have you laughing one moment and feeling the Spirit strongly the next. He made everything interesting, and really helped me get over some of my commitment anxiety! I loved this class!!
Brother Pyper is a wonderful teacher. He's funny, intelligent, spiritual (of course), and genguinely cares about his students. I highly recommend taking any one of his courses.
Brother Pyper is the coolest teacher I've had yet. I plan to take all the possible religion classes from him. Homework is easy. It's a one page paper due every class. He's really funny, he knows alot, and he keeps class interesting. I really enjoyed his class.
If you make a comment he will glare at you. Make sure to raise your hand. He actually snapped at me after awhile. He could've just said "please raise your hand." I didn't feel comfortable even after when I raised my hand he still would basically shut me down. It's more of a lecture class not a discussion. He's super smart though. Makes that clear.
He is Awesome Sauce in Human form.
Bro. Pyper is by far one of the best religion teachers on campus. He doesn't get on a high horse and tell everyone how knowledgeable and righteous he is like some other teachers. His homework isn't too hard or too easy its a good amount. Also he is HILARIOUS! And he knows when to be serious. Highly recommended.
Knowledge of one of the greats! Knows Church History and loves to answer any appropriate questions he can. It's kinda like listening to John Bytheway in person just no Andy Griffith. Great teacher! Do your work and you will get an A.
I really like Brother Pyper's sense of humor, he is pretty hilarious. He is very knowledgeable, and teaches his students in an exciting way. He tells some great stories concerning the history of the church, as well as some pretty funny stories of his own life. Great class.
Loved, loved, loved. In all of my school years I have never had a better teacher than Brother Pyper. People told him he told his stories too often but that made me remember more. He was hilarious and with that everyone remembered the scriptures better because he brought them to life. I wish I could take every single class from him. The best teacher
Brother Pyper is HILARIOUS. His class was BY FAR my favorite to go to this semester! You have to write 5 short paragraphs about 5 verses with a outside source relating (talks, other scriptures). It just has to be 1 page long-sounds hard, but its REALLY easy. 1 quiz a week-he usually gives you hints on the answers. You will be in tears from him!!
Bro. Pyper is hilarious. great teacher!
LOVED this teacher! He was probably one of the funniest teachers I have ever had and he really cared for his students. The homework load is pretty easy, and he gives a quiz every week. NO tests at all! Or Finals!! He is very knowledgable about what he teaches and he is such an amazing person! Take ANY class from him!!
Brother Pyper is an alright teacher. To do well on his quizes (you have 1 every week) you MUST be in class or you will not know any of his questions because most of them and tiny stupid details. He gets off subject alot so if that doesnt bother you take him. But you do have to write a 1 page single typed paper for EVERY CLASS.
He is hilarious! He makes you do a paper for each class, but it's easy. It's interesting, and I learned a lot of the details of the Book of Mormon. He is very spiritual and loves the book. I had him at 7:45 in the morning, and it was worth it. It was so rewarding. Attendance is mandatory though. Don't miss more than four days or else.
Brother Pyper is super funny. Not only is he funny, but he knows how to approach spiritual matters in a way that you can understand, and have fun with it. I felt bad because I was always really tired because it was at 7:45 in the morning...definitely don't recommend doing that... :D
Such an amazing teacher! The assignments all pertain to class and they're fairly easy. He is very informative but he is also hilarious. I love coming to class it's so much fun and you learn a lot!
He is hilarious and is very open about teaching things pertaining to marriage. There is some reading involved but it isn't anything too hard. It is an easy class. I don't recommend taking other religion classes from him though but prep for marriage definitely!
Awesome teacher! Prepared me so much for my marriage! Read everything, attend class, and take the weekly quizzes seriously. Amazing class.
He's ridiculous. If you want a stand up comedy for 45 minutes and 15 minutes of actual principles and doctrine, then take him. He's funny, but I'm here to learn, not get a comedic relief. I enjoyed the textbook and learning from that but learned nothing from him. He's very into himself and thinks he walks on water.
Best 7:45 class I've ever taken! He's super funny, but still knows so much about church doctrine! No final, just weekly quizzes and 1 pagers due each class, but if you pay attention they're no-brainers. I highly recommend him for anyone!
An easy A if you don't care about the spiritual side, though I do.There's not a lot of depth to his class. The only time I ever felt the spirit was during student presentations. He's really funny, though he seems to think he knows better than what the doctrines of the church teach. He has himself up on quite a high horse. He's pretty into himself.
I LOVED Brother Pyper! He is super nice, great at teaching, loves the gospel, and loves his students. I felt free to talk to him or ask for help at any time. He does require you to do your assigned scripture reading, and have a one pager every class. He also has quizzes every other week, but if you take good notes, it is a breeze. Definitely take!
Brother Pyper is hilarious. We laughed every day and he is super smart when it comes to church history. Sometimes I wish it had been more spiritual instead of all laughs, but he was great!
Of all my professors at BYUI Bro. Pyper was hands down my favorite. If you take one class from him make sure it's something to do with church history because he knows EVERYTHING :D
Brother Pyper is a super funny guy I would definitely consider taking another class from him. You do have to right a simple 1 page paper for each class and all of the quizes are all in class.
You have a short essay due everyday, and a quiz every Wednesday, but you appreciated that by the end of the class when you have no final! He is great at answering your questions and is super funny!
Bro. Pyper is an amazing teacher! He is hilarious, knowledgeable, and he cares about his students. There is an easy, 6 question essay due every day of class and a quiz every Thursday, but they are simple to complete and if you took notes on his powerpoints. Definitely take Book of Mormon from him! The Spirit is always there.
Brother Pyper is a fantastic teacher. He was very enthusiastic about what he was teaching, and we had some great discussions. He was such a funny guy! There were no tests, but quizzes every week on the lectures, and a ton of reading for homework. I plan on taking from him again!
Amazing teacher! I loved him! He is such a great guy. Honestly, my favorite class from him was Preparing for Eternal Marriage. He makes you actually think and ponder who is right for you
He is a great teacher! His class is very entertained. He is funny and know a lot about the Gospel. You actually learn A LOT from him. You have to write a 1 page paper for each class about a reading assignment. There is 1 presentation but its pretty easy becauseit just takes 3 minutes or so. I definetely recomend him! He is great!
Brother Pyper is the best religion teacher I have ever had. He is hilarious during class and really keeps everyone involved and interested in what we are learning. There is a paper due everyday in class but it takes like ten minutes and helps you understand the material better.
Brother Pyper was awesome!! I would definitely take another class from him if I can. He is so funny, and tells us really cool stories. I definitely learned something new everyday, and looked forward to his class. Not too hard either. Just had to answer 6 questions by writing a paper every class, and had quizzes once a week, but were super easy.
Brother Pyper was funny and kept our marriage prep class lighthearted while still teaching important principles. It was pretty easy, there are reading questions due each class, and a quiz every Wednesday. However there are no midterm or final. I liked it and enjoyed the easy structure. I did not always agree with him, but I respect his advice.
Freakin' awesome. Every class is both funny and uplifting and you get more out of this than most Book of Mormon teachers.
its super easy to get an A. There is a paper due every class, and a quiz every week, but he prepares you very well for each quiz. He's funny and knowledgeable and it's always disappointing when class has to end.and NO FINAL EXAM! prepare to get an easy A and be entertained and learn :)
Bro Pyper is a way funny guy, and knows a lot about the scriptures. For an A, all you need to do is read the assigned chapters, write a one-page summary of what you learned, take the quizzes, and do one short devotional in class. Everything is done in class, so attendance is mandatory. However, the class is way fun and insightful, even at 7:45 A.M.
Brother Pyper is hands down the best teacher I have had at BYUI. He is absolutely hilarious, his class is very very interesting and he definitely helped me testimony grow. I will be taking all of his classes from here on out!!
Awesome guy. Great teacher. Great at relating things to real life and recognizing scriptural truths.
Brother Pyper is hilarious and is such a great teacher. I always looked forward to his class.
Brother Pyper is by far the best teacher that I have had at BYUI. He is very informative and does a good job of covering the material.
I enjoyed his class. You have one paper due every class based off what you think. Its not hard!
I took his Marriage Prep class with my fiance and I learned a lot from his teachings as well as from the readings. There is A TON of reading for this class, though, and it can be overwhelming at times.
Bro. Pyper is the greatest teacher ever! He really makes class interesting. You have to do one page papers for every reading but it is super easy. I would definitely take him again!
CRACKED ME UP. Hilarious. Good teacher. Professional. Humble and open minded, unlike other religion teachers. Super approachable and sensitive. I come from a rough background and he always seemed sensitive to that in class. Really good guy. He's going to the celestial kingdom. Plus he's hot!
I might be the only one, but I feel brother Pyper is very pompous and arrogant. Most of the class was him trying to be funny and the other (smaller) portion was him reading quotes off a power point. My take away was humble men don't exist, & I don't know if marriage is for me. He also refused to use ilearn. But I don't know, you might like him.
Ok teacher
I took Brother Pyper's Rel 211 (New Testament) course. All the lecture material was on slides which he posted online. If you read them, it's very easy to pass the weekly quizzes. We also had to write a 1page essay on a verse of our choosing within the relevant chapter. No midterms, no finals. Attend, write essays, take the quiz and you're good.
Brother Pyper is so funny! He really cares about what he teaches and all we had as far as assignments were reading the material, writing short papers, and taking weekly quizzes. It's pretty easy.
Brother Pyper is my FAVORITE religion teacher here on campus. He has really increased my knowledge in the gospel and has taught me so much. He is hilarious. If he knows you, he totally picks on you throughout class and it is hilarious. He is humble, yet funny. He understands when to be funny and when to bring back the spirit. BEST TEACHER HERE.
Brother Pyper is an AMAZING professor. What you put into the class is what you get out of it. Homework is a one page paper every class. Basically writing a little talk, it can be very beneficial! So by the end of the semester, you have about 30 little talks written. Bro. Pyper is also SO funny & spiritual! You wont regret taking this class!
He rocks, not much more needs to be said. He delivers the truth like it is and won't apologize for it. LOVED this teacher and want him again, i don't care what class!
Brother Pyper inspired me and truly saved my semester. I wouldn't have stuck around if it weren't for Brother Pyper and his teaching skills.
I think he was an okay teacher. Reading, typed up 1 page assignment due each class. His quizzes were not difficult but you DID have to pay attention in the class 100%. Sometimes I felt like he mumbled a lot and expected us all to know what he is talking about. Well I'm a convert so I didn't. It was a easy A though. Graded by your neighbor.
1 page paper every class, super easy. Quiz every week, pretty easy, just pay attention during class. No final, which was really nice. Isn't a ton of work at all, easy A, but what you put into it is what you'll get out of it. Even though this class was at 7:45, Bro. Pyper was hilarious, along with inviting the spirit, so I looked forward to going.
This semester I had all A's in my classes even in Biology except this one. If you oversleep, you miss out on a large amount of points along with the notes needed for the test every Wednesday. I took accurate notes and read them over, but that was not enough to help me on the quizzes. The papers due before every class is nothing but busy work.
Great teacher! Brother Pyper knows so much about the Book of Mormon. He is hilarious, but very spiritual. Just take notes and the quizzes will be a breeze!
I would recommend Brother Pyper to anyone! He made learning about the BOM super fun. He is super laid back and absolutely hilarious. We had a quiz once a week on the previous lesson, but they weren't hard. Thus class is super fun and I wish I could take it from Brother Pyper again!
He is a great guy. He is strict but knows his stuff (and the school rules). He does what he can to work with you but also makes you actually try to get a good grade in his class, which is rare for a religion teacher. He wants to see you learn so just do the work (which isn't that hard) and show up and you're golden. Kissup tip: He likes peanut m&ms
Loved Bro Pyper. I would recommend him to anyone. Class isn't hard, just go to class do the reading and the simple paper he has you do and you'll get a good grade. He tells you in class what things to know for his weekly quiz but it's not hard, I never got lower than an A- on them. Take him, great professor who cares and loves what he teaches.
Love Brother Pyper! have taken his class twice and signed up for my third. shares stories and insight to the scriptures that just blow your mind. Yes you have to write a paper every class but you get used to it and its well worth the effort you out in. prepare yourself for quizzes, they are black and white, you either know it or you don't.
Brother Pyper is so funny! He you write one paper a class but it's fairly easy and very interesting. His quizzes are easy as long as you take notes. (He tells you a lot of stuff that will be in the quiz) He is understanding and very funny! I would take from him again!! A word of caution: cannot miss more than five times and pass.
Brother Pyper is by far my favorite teacher at BYU Idaho. He is absolutely hilarious. I always looked forward to going to classes. He makes class extremely fun and enjoyable. There is a quiz every week, but as long as you take good notes and do the homework, you will get an A on all of them. The last week of class he gave everyone a free 100%!
Brother Pyper was INCREDIBLE. Such a funny man, knew the gospel in depth, got to know each of his students by a small presentation every class, was very understanding of recent converts. TAKE HIM ANY CHANCE YOU CAN GET!!
Took D and C from him this year. He gives great insights into church history that I were super interesting! You have to have a page of notes to turn in every class period but it was worth doing that to hear his lectures
Bro. Pyper is arrogant. He mostly tells stories and jokes and sometimes reads quotes off a power point. He rarely uses the scriptures in class. He does not offer many incites. He teaches his opinion and his own interpretation rather than using scriptural backing. Do the paper, show up to class and you'll pass, but I didn't learn much from him.
Brother Pyper is a chill guy. you do have to write a paper everyday for class. and the quizzes every other day kinda suck, but hes a great professor!
He is a smart teacher who knows what he is doing. He is hilarious which makes the class more lively. But at the same time he teachers gospel truths with power and knowledge. In his class we were able to learn from each other which is a great teaching skill of brother Pyper. I will definitely recommend him and would take his class again.
Solid, spiritual teacher. A single spaced paper is due every class based on the reading that's not super time consuming. Overall, not extremely difficult, and helps you feel the spirit.
Brother Pyper is my favorite religion teacher! I've taken his classes a couple of times! You'll learn so much about the gospel! He has great lectures, he goes off on tangents sometimes but he overall really cares and has a passion for the gospel! You have to do a paper for each class period but as long as you read and show up to class you're gold.
Love love love brother pyper!!! He's an amazing man and very caring for all his students.
He's class is great but there is a paper assignment due everytime you come to class. The good news is it prepares you for his short quizzes every Wednesday along with the notes you take in class. His heart is totally into teaching principles and it's not hard to remember what he teaches. Great Class I give it a 85% . He is truly a great teacher.
Reading for every class. You have to do one 5 min. presentation during the semester (chill, it's easy). One page paper due at the beginning of every class; may sound daunting but very simple and sometimes fun. Very chill teacher who knew a lot about church history. Sometimes the presentations took most of the class time and I wish he talked more.
Brother Pyper is an amazing teaching, I hope to be able to take him for all my religion courses. There is a one page paper due every class, very straight forward, doesn't take more that 45 minutes to complete. Quiz once a week on Thursday, he tells you everything that will be on the quiz during class. 5 Minute power point, you pick the topic.
Brother Pyper is the best religion teacher at BYUI. I took him for several religion classes and absolutely loved each one. He makes it a point to know everyone's names and he genuinely cares about all his students. I learned more in his religion classes than anywhere else. It's an easy class, but you do have to put in the effort.
Great teacher, good sense of humour, patient, open, kind
He is nice and can be funny at times but I didn't find his class very spiritual. There were multiple people in our class who ended up leaving and not coming back because they found his jokes to be offensive. I was never offended by them but they did tend to drive the spirit away quite often. Easy1 page paper every class period and MUST be printed.
I really liked going to his class, he's very funny and always in a good mood. Make sure you do the readings, turn in homework, and go to class, otherwise its difficult to get a good grade.
He is a pretty good teacher. I'd take him again.
Brother Pyper is hilarious, insightful, and extraordinarily good with dates and unique stories from early saints and apostles. He does have a "5 missed classes and you fail" policy, but students are usually so invested, you'll never want to miss this class. Highly recommend.
Great teacher. Take this or any other class he teaches, it's well worth it. The thing is, I kind of wish he would talk more in class (you'll see when you get there), because he's got a head full of knowledge. I'll be straight up: I would rather write on a discussion board just to get him to share more in class, he is that spiritual (and very fun).
You will not regret a class with Brother Pyper! There are papers due every class, but it's not bad at all! It's only one page, and it takes < 30 minutes to write. You do have to present one of your papers but like I said it's not hard. He's HILARIOUS, he can have a biting sense of humor at times so don't take it personally if he teases you. 10/10!
Brother Pyper really knows his stuff and class is never boring! I really enjoyed this class but there was a lot of work, papers due every class period, reading and attendance count for grade, and quizes once a week. Work was very easy but beneficial.
Brother Pyper is really funny and makes the class really interesting I learned a lot from him. The homework load is pretty light you have to write a one page paper before every class which I got pretty tired of by the end of the semester, but its worth it for the teacher. He is really personable and makes an effort to get to know everyone.
Great religion professor. It would be the perfect class if he allowed us to turn papers in digitally and especially if he would lecture more. I got real tired real quick of students presenting every class period. When he teaches, however, you learn so much. He's really funny too.
Bro Pyper is hilarious. He made every aspect of the gospel relatable and does so in a humorous way. I never missed a single class solely because I didn't want to miss out on anything he taught. I never felt like his jokes drove the spirit away, but instead kept me engaged in the gospel topic. There is a paper due every class on our reading topic.
I loved Brother Pyper! He was hilarious and really good at relating the gospel to your everyday life. You do have to do a paper everyday, but it isn't hard and takes like 15-20 min. You get points for doing your reading, attendance, weekly quizzes, and your daily paper. The quizzes are weekly but really easy, and you don't have a final.
Brother Pyper is AMAZING I would recommend him to anyone and everyone. He has had such a big impact on me in just one short semester. You do write a paper before each class just one page on the reading but it is really such a benefit to you and it doesn't take very long at all. Brother Pyper is hilarious and overall a great teacher.
Brother Pyper is so much fun and he really knows the material he teaches. you have to write a paper for every class, do one presentation and take short quizzes once a week, but other than that, his class is very laid back. If you want a rteacher who KNOWS the gospel, Bro. Pyper is your guy
Brother Pyper is one of my favorite teachers, his classes are so much fun and really inspirational. He is very good at making the information interesting. The class is self graded, based on papers for every class and quizzes once a week. If you show up to class and take notes hen he tells you, you will get an A.
Brother Pyper is one of my favorite religion teachers ever. He is pretty strict on attendance so make sure you go. The assignments are pretty simple but still help you learn. You have some reading, a one page paper due every class and one quiz every other week. Other than that, I highly encourage him and be prepared for a lot of laughs! :)
I love Professor Pyper. He is my favorite professor that I have had since being on campus. He gives such inspiring lectures, while yet still being someone who can relate to college students. Yes, you do have to write a one-page paper for every class, but to sit in on his lectures is 100% worth it! Take a class from him
Brother Pyper is an awesome religion teacher. I had him as my Church History teacher and loved every minute of it. He is pretty chill with his lectures and his quizzes are straight forward. If your looking for an awesome religion teacher, Brother Paper is your guy.
There is TONS of reading for this class. Sometimes three conference talks and several chapters from scriptures. It takes me forever. A lot of people say the papers don't take them long but I would spend probably an hour writing it and up to two hours just reading. It is a TON for a religion class. He is hilarious and very nice. I enjoyed classes.
Brother Pyper's class was my favorite class this semester. He has great stories and jokes to help make the gospel relatable but still keeps focus on the gospel and the spirit. He requires a "paper" every class, but it is definitely doable (1 hour max). His weekly quizzes are easy, but you need to be in class to do well on those. No final or midterm
I was so grateful for this class. Although not dating anyone, this course changed my life. Be ready for a quiz every Thursday, but really easy if you did the readings! This course is so insightful and inspiring.
This is my 3rd semester in a row with Brother Pyper. I've always enjoyed his religion classes and make it a personal goal to have as many of his classes as possible. He really understands the gospel and people and has a way of making you feel welcome while encouraging you to be your best self. He is forgiving and very funny, but require hard work!
So my class with him is at 7:45-8:45 am which is too early for my liking and I question my choice of signing up for such an early class just about every morning that I'm waking up at 6 am, but despite how early it is, I ENJOY it! His lectures aren't boring at all, they're interesting, and he's hilarious!
Brother Pypers lectures are so funny. There are two papers a week, but they get much easier. There is also one quiz per week, but if you listen in class you should do well. No midterms or finals. Presentations were optional, I dont know if they are every semester, so maybe be prepared for that.
You have to write a page paper and do required reading everyday there is class. I liked that part because I learned a lot, but it took a ton of time sometimes too. He teaches you interesting things, but tests you on some of the random facts he talked about. Take good notes and study them to take the tests. Not my favorite teacher, but also not bad.
his grading is based on his opinion and not doctrine, which made my testing grades go down. Daily work isn't bad. He reuses stories a-lot! I heard his personal message stories at least 5 times in the course of one semester. Would single out a student and focus on them the entire day which is awkward and boring to the class bc no one cares.
I've had Brother Pyper for 5 semesters because he's so kind and always very fun. There are never any surprises in his class. Do the reading, come to class, be respectful and he'll be your best friend. Yes we have a quiz weekly but he reviews with you and yes there are papers and it takes the place of a final and midterm. (You can reuse old papers.)
Homework every class, but it's surprisingly easy. Really cool guy and interesting to listen to
Brother Pyper Enjoys connecting with his students and loves what he teaches.
Not a fan of his teaching style. Just drones on for an hour. Almost no interaction between students which I would prefer. His religion class felt a lot more like a history class and he spends a lot of time on stories that don't really apply to the subject. nice guy though. Requires a page long paper for each class. Mostly just inconvenient.
Brother Pyper gives ALOT of prep reading. It was kind of frustrating because I wanted to get things from the reading but I couldnt because there was too much. Theres a quiz every week about non important topics like: what painting is in the St George temple. Requires that you have camera on in class or no points for attendance.
He is a great teacher. make sure to do the prep reading and homework for each class as to help you with the session. also, he does have a test each week on what was taught easy just pay attention in class.
He knows his stuff, which is really cool to be able to learn about things I wouldn't have come across otherwise. But his weekly quizzes can be kind of difficult and on obscure things said in class or in the reading. If you're a decent test taker, then go for it, but this class could be frustrating for someone who's not good at tests/quizzes.
Like other religion classes, you are going to read a lot. Brother Pyper has great lectures and knows his stuff. I took his 7:45 am class which is too early for my night owl body. you have a quiz every other week and some of them can be difficult if you don't choose to look back at the reading answers. Great choice, too early.
Bro. Pyper is interesting. He gives great lectures but makes outlandish claims without citing sources. He requires a paper and reading assignment before every class. Some reading assignments had like 5 chapters and 3 talks to read (before every class, for a 2 credit class). His quizzes were often really hard. Avoid his class if you have ADHD.
Brother Pyper isn't a bad instructor. However, I feel like he didn't really prepare the lectures because he had people presenting every class and each student took around 30 min, so we wasted that time learning about someone's life. When someone wasn't there to present, you could kinda feel like he was not ready to fill the whole hour with material
This class made me feel so frustrated. I do not think he is a good professor. We wasted too much time with presentations or random people showing up to talk to him, so for a few minutes, he talked to these people instead of teaching.
Brother Pyper is my least favorite teacher. I very much disliked that he made you take quizzes every other class. One question we got on a quiz was: "what picture hangs in the St. George temple?" I thought his quizzes were irrelevant and did not help me learn the gospel at all. If you want a religion class you have to take notes on, take him.
Brother Pyper is one of the funniest human beings I've ever met. He's real and gives good advice. I've enjoyed going to his class everyday! It's an average amount of reading and quizzes-nothing too hard.
Brother Pyper is one of the most inspirational teachers Ive ever had! He has inspired me to go on a mission and has taught me so much!
This teacher was not enjoyable. He made me dislike institute classes. He thought his word and thoughts were straight doctrine. He has such a big EGO he's not even fun to listen too
Brother Pyper is a great teacher. His classes are entertaining, but always have a good spirit. He does a great job at talking about what he planned for, but will deviate if a question is asked. You have to read and do a paper before every class, but it is easy.
This class was something else. Brother Pyper does seem to have a big ego but when I looked past that and focused on the gospel and what the spirit was saying, I was able to learn too much. He has amazing stories to tell! Although he was self-centered, I was able to learn from him with the help of the spirit. Be prepared for a "paper" every class.
Brother Pyper = amazing teacher. He was my first Religion teacher at BYUI, I wish I could take his class again. I took Religion 275 and it was an easy class. We did have to write a "paper" every class, but it's 6 bullet points about the reading, ended up being relatively easy. Quiz every week but he always lets you know if it will be on the quiz.
He's not my favorite religion teacher, but he isn't the worst either. A lot of people say he has a big ego, but I think what they're trying to say is that he talks about his son who plays football in BYU A LOT. HAHA Anyway, he's not that bad. But yes not a very reflective spiritual class, you have to takes a lot of notes but should be an easy A.
He singled out non-members, asking if he was helping them gain testimonies. The class was about memorizing facts rather than gaining spiritual insight, and there were weekly quizes on random facts. There's also a paper due each class, which became exhausting. He adds his own doctrinal beliefs to lessons, and is heavy on lecture-style.
Overall the class wasn't "that" bad. He's the type of professor who thinks his word is law and that if he thinks this is the best scripture on a topic then it's the best scripture on that topic and he will quiz you on that. You do have to write a page paper every class.
He spent WAY too much time on student presentations and way too little time actually teaching. His powerpoints are outdated and borderline misogynistic. Also, if you miss 5 or more classes, he fails you from the class, so be ready to zone out and just be there IF you take his classes at all. Also, he doesn't know how to use technology AT ALL.
I was disappointed with Brother Pyper's Book of Mormon class. Mostly he told stories about his life, had us do presentations about ourselves, and do readings before class. We didn't really read or apply scripture in class, mostly he told stories and tried to make us laugh. I usually left frustrated after class.
Bro Pyper teaches his opinion as doctrine and has quizzes every two weeks that have nothing to do with class or the daily papers we have to do before every class. I would leave class everyday feeling so bad about myself and like I would never be good enough. Also- If you miss more than 3 classes you cant get an A in the class.
Way too much preparation required. Very knowledgeable but tends to go on unrelated tangents during class and not cover all of the material. Quizzes every week with very vague questions looking for specific answers that are not always covered in classes. One preparation required 5+ chapters of reading and 2 long talks and a 1 page summary paper.
I absolutely love Brother Pyper! He knows so much and I get a lot out of class. He has quizzes after class, but they address what you learn. As long as you paid attention they are easy. He also gives you access to all of his powerpoints. He cares about his students and wants you to be successful!
I love Brother Pyper! He is very intelligent and teaches very well. There are uizzes after class, but as long as you actively listen they are straight forward. He will answer any questions and make everyone feel important.
Learn a lot of cool stuff. Just a lot of papers though.
Brother Pyper invited the spirit in almost every class. He requires a paper before every class and a quiz once a week but in exchange, he doesn't assign any major exams. Sometimes he goes on side tangents that don't seem to make much sense. Some people don't enjoy his teaching style but I didn't mind it and I would take another one of his classes.
Great guy I am sure- but, do not take this class if you do not want to take a bunch of quizzes and write a lot of papers. Especially when BYUI has better professors who just want you to grow your testimony. Br Pyper is a funny guy but does not have a structered class at all. He would go overtime. Quizzes never line up to what he talks about.
Overall a great Professor very Funny. You need to be at class that is where most of the learning happens. Homework isn't too bad and there was no final exam because of the weekly quizzes. Main complaint would be the quizzes have weird questions on the and the answers aren't always lined up with correct weekly reading. Just talk to him though.
Professor Pyper is a hoot - his lectures are engaging and he gives solid advice. The quizzes can be tricky, but using Unstuck study and the free textbook helps. Definitely worth taking if you don't mind mandatory attendance.
Brother Pyper is a funny man, but not a great professor. I'd recommend if you want a laugh, I didn't really learn a lot. His weekly quizzes sometimes feel a bit random, and there's a paper due for each class... yikes.
Brother Pyper tells a lot of great stories! He often lectures on unrelated topics and the assignments he forms seem relatively random. This is not mentioned in class, but you are only allowed to miss five days. The quizzes aren't hard, but when he says "this is manna from heaven," it means he's giving you an answer on the quiz.
Brother Pyper is an awesome teacher. I took the New Testament gospels class (Rel 211) and it was probably the easiest religion class I've ever had. Brother Pyper is a caring guy and is very funny. If you do your reading the papers are super easy and take maybe 45 min. The quizzes were very wack sometimes though. Random questions. Be aware of that.
His class is good if you want to learn late-19th and late-20th century church dogmas, pet theories, and speculations, but this is NOT the class to learn about the actual text of the New Testament. Sometimes we would go into rabbit holes about unrevealed doctrine, which was very distracting. However, the paper assignments are good and teach a lot.
He often brings up Elder Bednar in class, and cannot seem to stop talking about him. He loves going long tangents, even though he claims to be able to get back onto topic easily. He is a very smart man, and full of wisdom, however he often wakes up on the wrong side of the bed and takes it out on his students often.
He brought up politics several times, could tell what he supported in regards to that, also taught ELIMINATED works and proceeded to say those were better than the book of Mormon. He also mocked another religion openly in class.
He always goes on about unrevealed doctrine like animal are spirits like us but were too dumb so Heavenly Father didn't pick them in the spirit world. Homework, two papers a week and the assignments close when past due, the Quiz will open at 11:45 am close at midnight. He doesn't post it until the day of so no warning and the questions are whack.
