I wasn't terribly excited about an Anthropology survey class, but this instructor changed my mind. He's an awesome teacher - very funny, REALLY knows his stuff, and is very engaging. His lectures are informative, and the text was interesting. Not for slackers, though - if you miss class or don't read, you'll suffer for it. Highly recommended.

Lonnie is really understanding and very clear in his lectures. Prepare to take notes but he lays things out so nicely that its easy to retain the information.

My third time took his Anthropology 100, first time took Anthropology 205. I don't want to complain this professor is not good. The way he taught his class is not acceptable to me. No textbook, everything is based on lecture. How can we make sure his lecture is correct just based on what he said? It is not accurate. He said "Its our responsibility

There is not textbook in his class. He said all based on the lectures. How can you make sure the answers on exams are correct only based on the lectures? I asked him for questions, he said "it is your responsibility to take notes". I have repeated his Anthropology 100 class already. I did not pass. I would never ever take his class again!

Lonnie is awesome. His method of teaching is lecture based. He only grades you on tests. He doesn't assign homework, he offers extra credit, and is very clear on what you need to know specifically. I have taken 2 classes so far and plan to take more.

Great teacher overall. Everyday is note taking but honestly it never felt boring or a drag. It didnt just feel like someone was just making me take notes. Attendance isnt mandatory which is great though you would need to ask someone for their notes if you miss. But all in all highly recommended everything is clear cut and organized.

We had to take notes every single day. The best thing about his class was that he led us to bring 3 pages of notes on the exam. Only had one book which we had to read and had the quiz on that. We had 4 exams all together and 4 reading quiz. If you do good on quizzes and exams it is an easy A. Also had a lot of extra credit opportunities.

Great teacher in all honesty. Knows his subject, and I can tell he enjoys teaching. Would have been a phenomenal instructor to have in a standard-setting. However, as an instructor for an online class, he is absolutely terrible to have. There is little difference in taking his classes "online" or "in person". I do not recommend online.

Lonnie is an amazing and kind professor, he records his lectures so you can watch them if u were absent, doesn't give a lot of work only 2 reading exams, 3 lecture exams and 3 assignments for the entire quarter. Very easy class, all you need to know is in his lectures and he explains very well so it's easy to get an A.

Professor Somer is very straight forward. You have to watch the lecture videos and take notes on what he says. Two different type of test. 1 test is based on the lecture videos, the other from the small book you have to read. This class is easy if you put the time and effort and take good notes. There's also points for small easy assignments.

Take this class - it will teach you to be more compassionate, more kind, to become an activist if you aren't already one, but most importantly open your eyes to worlds you have never seen before!

Extremely rude and inconsiderate toward his students! His grading system is reliant on his own personal bias toward your assignment. Gives no extensions no matter the circumstance, has no pity, offered no extra credit. Just take a word of advice and don't waste your time on a teacher who could care less about you and or your success in his class.

Honestly, his whole class is based on tests meaning if you mess one up you pretty much could fail the class. you have to study for two completely different tests at the same time and it really sucks because both are super time-consuming I wouldn't really recommend this class as not only do you have to study a lot you really don't learn anything.

Prof. Somer knows everything about Anthropology and knows how to engage young students. But at times, the lectures lead to tangents and it can be hard to follow. He does have study guides for all exams which was nice. He does throw a lot of info in his 3 lectures/day but just watch them and you will do good. Ask him for help too!
