This class requires a ridiculous amount of time for being only 1 credit. Worse still, it is ostensibly about helping you plan a career. This class is about helping you get a job after graduation yet I was consistently forced to take off time from my internship to attend pointless events. I'm astonished this class was approved by UCF.
The class is more work than it should be, as it is only 1 credit but as long as you do what is required it is an easy A. He tells you to read two books for the final exam; do it. The majority of the final is on them. Download them as an e-book so that you can search through the book easier while you take the exam.
This is one of the worst structured classes I have ever taken. You have to attend a lot of campus events to receive credit and only go to one of the lectures. It is not hard to get an A but it is hard to understand how to get an A. Be ready to dress business casual to campus on a daily basis.
This class is frustrating. The assistants never respond to your emails, you constantly have to go to events where you need to be dressed up, which is a hassle when I want to just be wearing comfortable clothes while I'm at school. The quizzes and final are easy. I am not looking forward to the next courses in this series.
Listen I got an A in this class. It's really easy. But it's time consuming and i have learned nothing of value. I've taken the first 2 courses in the series so I can say that they are pretty much the same course. This is the worst kind of university requirement I truly feel this exists for money. You only use the online book for quizzes.
Very easy class. If you read the syllabus and his weekly announcements you will be fine. Online quizzes are untimed and very easy as well as the essay. Buy the PDF version of the books and the final, which is also untimed, will be much easier. He gives multiple activities you can do with each announcement so you have no excuse not to get the points
Honestly hate that he is the only professor teaching the GEB series because you're stuck with him 4 semesters consecutively. While he means well, I think that the class should be organized differently. Also the quizzes have many opinion-based questions and take more time than a 1 credit hour quiz should.
This class is so much work for 1 credit. There are TONS of things to do, but none of them are all that hard. The quizzes and final were open book, but there were lots of questions that could have more than one right answer. Make sure to read the syllabus, semester project assignment, and his weekly emails or you'll have no idea what's going on.
The time and effort required for this course is more than the one credit hour assigned to it. The networking events took up a large amount of free time in order to meet the semester requirements, and I learned nothing career wise. Very unorganized/scattered structure. Contemplating changing schools or majors to avoid the classes to come. Good luck.
This class is probably the most unorganized one here at UCF. You have attend numerous lectures, then gives you instructions on how to prepare for certain steps in the career project, but fails to provide links or tell you where the required material is. Only the 1st week! Idk how this class is only 1 credit given it requires full time attention.
This is the most unorganized class I have ever taken in my entire life. The professor posts links to videos to see how the course works and the links don't work.. It seems impossible to even know what you're doing. I'm a very organized person and I am stressed out to trying to figure out what I'm supposed to do after reading the syllabus 100 times
This entire series is useless. Lonny Butcher offers no insight and just pretends he is a gift to the students of UCF. It is extremely unfortunate that these courses are mandatory. One thing I really liked about UCF is that there weren't any stupid classes. Extremely disappointed that these courses got approved to be taught, much less made mandatory
This is my second time taking this class. They obviously had some problems last semester because the class is a little different. At lease we weren't forced to buy the "textbook" this semester! Somehow this 1-credit class is way more involved than any 3-credit class. Be prepared to jump through hoops for one credit!
The work for this class is way beyond what it should be for a 1 credit hour course. Unorganized, managed poorly, and a waste of time. This class has hurt my career development more than it has helped by keeping me too busy to actually HAVE THE TIME for the job it desperately advertises it will help me get. Not looking forward to two more of these.
This class is so much work for only one credit hour. Absolutely useless, be prepared to work your butt off for points.
Requirements are clear cut, but forget it if you need an answer to a question. These classes are just too big. It is way too much work for one credit hour. The quizzes and final exam are awful - lots of poorly written questions with more than one possible answer.
Time management is the key success here. Get the online versions of the readings so you can search for the answers better. Attend the events he announces and get that activity points done in 2/3 weeks. Don't procrastinate and you should get an A.
The class is offered at satellite locations (Melbourne, Cocoa, Palm Bay) but the instructor REQUIRES that you turn in your project verification sheets IN PERSON to his office in Orlando. WHY?? The class is an easy A if you spend a little time and a little effort but the content is totally useless for the adult student.
Lonny Butcher is really a great guy and cares for his students. The class is an easy A if you're not lazy. I understand that it may be a lot of 'work' for a one credit class, but in the end its all to help you out. Quizzes are a little tough but not a big deal. No need for all the hate.
if you're a 17 year old fresh out of high school and have no direction at all in life you'll benefit from this course. However, if you're over the age of 30 and are going to UCF to advance in the career you've already had the last 10 years, get ready for an expensive waste of time. this should be an elective not mandatory.
He does not care about his students success one bit. Only cares about the check the school gives him each week. He's very negatively sarcastic as well.
WHAT A TERRIBLE PROF. I would use so many words not allowed on this site to describe him. Syllabus is the most confusing thing you'll ever read. He doesn't always accept all the points, so turn in extra every time. DON'T MISS THE 30 POINT DEADLINE. Can't submit late assignments. TA's do all the work. Essay isn't worth it. Final is based on 2 books.
This man makes class unnecessarily hard for ONE credit hour... The syllabus is super confusing and the way he answers emails along with the weekly announcements isn't the most light hearted ever. Overall makes you work hard for a class that isn't even important.
Too much work for a one credit hour class. Pointless class and a waste of time. Lonny is painfully unfunny and unhelpful.
Awful. Mandatory 1 credit hour class that is basically go to events the class. The tests are impossible. Most of the time the choices are 1 stupid joke answer and three right answers, guess which one. I'm an A-B student with a 3.5 GPA and I average a 50 on his quizes. ITS A 1 CREDIT HOUR CLASS WITH NO CURRICULUM, LECTURES, OR BOOK!
His "Assignments" aren't even properly attached to web courses so you have to dig through the syllabus to find them. Luckily UCF has realized how much of a joke lonny and these classes are and do not require them as much as my undergrad cat. I work two jobs in my career and go to school full time yet I get C's and D's on his "Career Assignments"
I can't believe this is still part of the curriculum for UCF business school. This series consist of repetitive busy work, and forcing students to buy his friends opinionated self-help books. It should be replaced with all business students having to take professional selling and a mandatory school assisted internship program.
I hated this class in the beginning . Yeah, it's a lot of work for a 1 credit class BUT IT'S ALL FOR YOUR OWN GOOD. The professor really gets you out of your comfort zone and I landed an internship because of all the activities he makes us do. If you're into networking and really getting yourself noticed by employers and alumni, you'll be just fine
Lonny is goes out of his way to make instructions and policies unclear. Syllabus is confusing and he is very condescending in his emails. I spent more time in this 1 credit hour class than most of my 3 credit hour classes. Will also deduct points that you have earned if its not a certain amount. Avoid these classes and this professor
professor is a cool guy and the class is "easy" if you put in the time/ effort. However it is a ridiculous amount of work for one credit and it is all or nothing. example i got 20/30 points and this counted as a 0/30. The syllabus is unclear and the class is un organized. the course is a good concept but just doesnt work. plus side a D passing
This class is a ridiculous. Lonny uses it to force his students to buy his buddies self-help literature that is quite frankly a joke. I just finished a whole chapter and cannot believe whoever wrote it got paid to do so. UCF needs to through these classes out and incorporate some that are somewhat beneficial. The lack of organization is also fun
I had to take time off from my internship to go listen to a presentation about how to get an internship. Drag that logic out for 4 semesters and you have the GEB series. the look on peoples faces throughout this course say, "im only here because you're making me come here." Not much value in that.
The Exchange events are fun. Attendance to 1 Professional Series event is mandatory, if not, you lose points. Do the activity points early in the semester before the 1st due date. Try to do higher points activities so they don't become overwhelming. Quizzes are tough. Get appointment with Career Coach as soon as possible (opens around 2-2.5 moths).
This is the definition of an underwater basket weaving class. The fact this series of classes if forced upon thousands of adults is frankly unacceptable.
On my third of four classes for this career series and it is basically the same thing. Horridly unorganized and a complete waste of time and money. He names off a list of interview questions to study for the semester project, then the actual interview has completely different questions. I cannot wait to be done with these classes.
A very derogatory, demeaning person who makes you feel like you are back in MS stuck with a prima donna teacher. Don't buy the book, you can BS through the quizzes, doesn't take feedback well at all either. Its a waste of tuition money, and frankly I'm surprised the Dean has not gotten rid of these classes.
I think we can all agree the GEB classes are unnecessary. This class is VERY simple but it is a LOT of work. Most people do not like Butcher until they meet him. I have no doubt he is a very nice guy but this class is frustrating. My advice: you have to do the to do list points anyway you might as well do ones that benefit you. Dont overthink this
This class went from bad to worse. There are really no cross eliminations with his exams. All options sound great. Pretty much did you memorize every word from the text. The only way to avoid his class is to go to another University. Go to FSU.
Easy enough class do exactly the things he outlines in the syllabus and easy A.
Lonny Butcher perfectly illustrates the college of business: unclear, doesn't respond to you, doesn't care about you, and in a constant state of panic. Find a friend that has already taken the class to help you through your first GEB or you may end up with a B or C in this pointless class just because the assignments & syllabus are so vague.
This class is very easy to forget and put on the back burner. I received an F the first time and passed my other hard classes because I did just this. He makes you really dig and dig for information that can be explained in two sentences. Easy assignments, but the class is somewhat annoying because it's 1 credit and you feel like it's a 3 credit.
I really don't like this man at all. I have so many issues with the way he runs these classes. He gives you so much homework, quizzes, and tests for a one-credit class. He puts himself on a pedestal and thinks he is the king. I am so excited to be done with this man--only this current class 4223 and one more to go until I am done with him for good.
This guy, in charge of the "career professionalism series" of classes is incredibly unprofessional and disorganized. You will learn nothing. This won't benefit your career in the slightest way, but it will test your ability to read through thousands of words of nonsense and (a few) instructions in order to complete the simple time-wasting work.
Want a terrible class that will teach you nothing, make you buy $20 dollar books for ONE quiz, want to spend hours doing pointless stuff? WELL HERE IS THE CLASS FOR YOU! GEB don't worry its only a one credit class but it will be just as time consuming and frustrating as a 3 credit course. This class is so poorly ran and put together, good luck...
Finally finished the last of these classes and here to say: It doesn't get better. If I could go back to when I first had to take these classes, I would have changed schools to get my degree. The amount of time and stress I had to put into these classes is absurd. My opinion is similar to everyone below me. Unorganized. Unhelpful. Good luck.
After taking the first of the GEB series, I will be leaving UCF to finish my degree at some other university. The thought alone of having to take three more classes like this one fills me with dread. The material is easy enough, but the amount of events you have to attend for ONE credit hour is absurd. Cuts into time that could be used better.
I am in the third GEB class with Lonny currently and they get worse each semester. I am a hard working, straight A student and it is nearly impossible to get an A in any of these 1 credit courses. The book is helpful for real life but the quiz questions tested on are so complicated in their wording and built for students to get wrong.
Worst Professor at UCF by far! He takes an extremely rewarding class and makes it unbearable. I have taken Calc 2, Physics 2 and even Logic and Proof of Mathematics. I have never seen a teacher try to fail a student quite like Lonny Butcher. I Would never ever and I mean ever take Lonny Butcher if the University didn't make me...
Have fun. Most work I have ever done for a class and it's only a one credit class. Get ready to work
I literally can't think of a single redeeming quality about these classes. You have to dig around through a million things to try and find what they want. The amount of work required is beyond ridiculous, and the quizzes are worded poorly. It is almost as if Lonny gets a rush out of tricking students.
Very boring class and it's a lot of work for one credit hour. There are four classes and they are the same over and over again. The quizzes are a bit tricky but other then that its all busy work.
Terrible classes. VERY disorganized and he is disrespectful in addressing the class. VETERANS BEWARE! He does not curve those who are on the G.I. Bill like he does the rest of his class as you will be in a different coded course (MAN 4906). I've met face to face and emailed him over this for four months and nothing has changed. He doesn't care.
UCF business students are very fortunate to have Lonny Butcher as a professor for 4 semesters. He is an intelligent, professional man and he prepares each one of his courses meticulously. The course content, including the career-to-do list and assigned readings are extremely beneficial for launching our careers. His jokes are extremely funny too!
I want to thank Mr. Butcher for providing the extra push needed to get things done in my best interest during my time at UCF. You choose which activities you want to do and self manage your semester, so your grade and what you get out of the class is up to you. The class teaches you how to get a job and reach your potential. He's looking out for us
GEB 3003 is kind of useful but GEB 3005 (and the other higher GEB courses) are a waste of time. This class is way too much work for a one credit hour. He emails nonstop. The quizzes are outdated with wrong answers. The books are only available hard copy and you need them for the quizzes. Overall mandatory waste of my time.
Same as everyone else here. Awful class. Not worth 1 credit. Takes more time than any other class. Good idea to help students. Terrible planning for the class and terrible person to put in charge of the class.
If you were to compile all of the emails, announcements, and general reading materials into a single word document, you would need an entire tree to print it out or a gigabyte of hard drive space to save it. One credit hour for this much work is ridiculous and the professor comes across in a negative way with his attitude.
This Professor is one of the most unprofessional individuals I've ever met! quizzes are terrible doesn't matter if all the answers are wrong neither him or the TAs explain anything to you. He is so unorganized he turns something that is so simple into a confusing mess. it's all a ridiculous waste of time and money with a ton of busy work!
If you are just entering UCF college of Businesses highly recommended you check other schools. I have so many negative things to say about Lonny and GEB classes!! Can't believe these are mandatory!!!
WELL here we go again. AWFUL AWFUL CLASS. A sad excuse for UCF to earn money from their business students. FOUR CLASSES of the same nonsense every semester AND THERE is no way around it. Go to a different school if you can. I never want to read "This is Who We Hire" AGAIN. I am so sorry for all business majors. This class was very traumatic.
I can't stand reading the select few comments that are positive here. I'm sure the 5% of students who provide positive feedback allows him to ignore the 95% of us who can clearly see how much of a waste of time this class is.
GEB is hands down the worst part about UCF. Absolutely pointless and time consuming.
Terrible class even worse professor. He's unprofessional, sarcastic, rude, and disrespectful. Which is ironic for someone who supposedly teaches career professionalism. Only way to not take him 4 times is find a different school or don't major in business!!
Leaving UCF because of this string of 4 horrific classes. Big headache for no benefit. Highly unorganized
Terrible class even worse professor. Completely unorganized and serious lack of respect and professionalism. If you're a business major hopefully you are able to find a different school where these ridiculous waste of time and money classes aren't required.
PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR A CLASS. Honestly the most useless class I have ever taken. I learned nothing. There was so much work for a 1 credit class. This class is probably the most ridiculous thing I have ever done. Do not do it if you can. Lonny is the worst person in the entire world. I never want to see his face again. Get out while you can!!!!
I know a pattern is beginning to emerge about how pathetic this professor is. Him and his colleagues are extremely condescending and the course instructions itself are written in a dense way that is difficult to read for most. Its definitely not one credit hour of work. In the summer he's less reasonable. I'm just glad I won't have to take again
honestly the class is really easy, i never had a problem completing any of the papers. Just literally write a page and you'll get full credit. If it was just 1 geb class i would be good. I don't understand why its spread out into 4 classes, just combine all of them together instead of making us do the same papers and points every semester
HAHA. I can't believe I'm still taking these stupid classes. UCF really needs to get it together and fire this pansy. He is such a garbage professor I honestly just wonder who hurt him so bad that he made it his life mission to waste students time. I am a senior with a hard major and have ACTUALLY IMPORTANT classes to focus my time on! #boibye
There is waayyyyyyyy too much work in this 1 credit class. The Career Story Project document is like 10 pages long... My syllabus wasn't that long in Anatomy. Very forced work that most are doing just to get through the class. UCF COBA needs to find a better way to get people more involved...
This class takes so much time to finish with only 1 credit and there are 4 classes total. Forced students to participate many events to get points. The course is repeated and there is no clarification for students. Very limited students enjoy this course
At this point we should all petition to have these pointless GEB classes removed from UCF. They are horribly organized and honestly border on extortion for how useless they are. Lonny doesn't care about his students and doesn't respond well to any sort of criticism even if you are very respectful. Also way too much work for 1 credit hour.
Worst class ever. It is his absolute goal to fail you if at all possible. Please remove this from the college of business. Worst excuse for a course ever created. A ten year old could make a more fluid online course book.
Sooo I just took the final class and I'm so happy i'm done with these classes. The 4 gem's are the worst thing about the UCF college of business. I understand that when in college students may not like the professor, not find the material interesting, say its a lot of work, think its big waste of time and this class checks every one of those boxes.
I understand what Lonny and the college of business are trying to do with these GEB classes, but it is NOT working. Seriously talk to your students. They are not getting out of it what you are intending them to. The whole thing needs a serious RESTRUCTURE! Also the "This is Who We Hire" quizzes are nonsense, nobody is learning from those.
You would think with all these negative reviews that they would re-consider these pointless classes. And what do they do? Yep, add 5th one because 4 wasn't meaningless enough. I'm an Accounting major with an internship already and do not need to waste countless hours studying for a 1 credit course. Please UCF for future students end this BS.
The GEB classes truly aren't that bad as long as you're willing to put forth minimal effort. Read the chapter once and you're fine - no need to actually "study." Yes, the assignments are pretty annoying, but everyone on here is overreacting.
I can't believe anyone would give this guy anything above a 1. I wish I could give him a zero!! Such a waste of time for working professionals. Not sure why UCF isn't listening to the MAJORITY of students. The classes are terrible and worthless. The professor is a demeaning and unprofessional. He gets kicks trying to intimidate students
This class is easy but very time consuming. There should be some sort of adjustment for students who already have internships or full time jobs. I've had to take time off from my internship to attending the mandatory lecture where they taught us how to get internships. It's a frustrating amount of work for 1 credit, should be two 2 credit classes.
So time consuming and pointless. Quizzes asked very specific questions from lectures and book. Why do I need to know job statistics? This professor cannot send an email without some sarcasm, exclamation marks or CAPS. Wish I didn't have to take any more GEB classes him
Honestly, I agree with the posts that are saying the class is much easier than being portrayed here in these reviews. In fact, I thought the class was a breeze. It was fun, inspirational, exciting, and over-all a good learning tool. I would definitely take this professor again and recommend him to anyone and everyone. Really, meet him, you'll see!
The class isn't hard, but the work is time consuming. This class alone has more work and assignments than my other 3classes combined which is ridiculous for only 1credit. You have your activities that require 60 points/quizzes from the book/mini projects. It DOES get you more involved on campus but shouldn't distract you from your actual classes.
I wish faculty would pay attention to what students are saying. I have to delay my graduation because this class takes up way too much time to allow for 6 classes to be taken a semester, but I am not being fairly rewarded. This semester, I took 5 classes, was very stressed, and got 12 credits out of it. Unacceptable & driving students away from UCF
Its very bizarre that the university would require you to do 4 courses of absolute busy work; all it does is detract from real courses. The work itself isn't difficult, just completely useless, time consuming, and disorganized. The irony that it is a 'professionalism' course is not lost on me.
The GEB classes are the definition of garbage. There is absolutely no reason he should be proctoring these waste of time quizzes when he references something so minute and specific from the chapter in his questions. I can't believe I still have two more after this one. These four courses are trash, pointless and the opposite of professional.
This is my third Lonny class and it's safe to say that I am OVER it. This class especially is beyond useless. Stop studying for the quizzes because all of the answers are wrong anyways and won't get updated. Assignments and peer reviews are also stupid :)
Worst professor at UCF. Doesn't teach, just interrupts guest speakers with bad jokes
The irony here, all the digs this professor takes on liberal arts college and the pointlessness of a degree, when his class is probably the biggest waste of time. Forced participation, throughout 4 semesters. They will work with you if you graduate in a shorter time frame. Exchange lectures are nice, but you'd have to attend 12 of them to pass.....
This class was largely responsible for why I didn't enjoy my time as a student at UCF. The university should have more respect for their students and not load this busy work bs on them (which is all what this class is)...
this guy is a joke. i would be graduating in the spring but he created these horrible consecutive classes. i cant begin to describe how horrible, confusing and time wasting these are. A real failure in the universities part to keep this man employed. He is a true con artist
Just here to drop my semester 1 rating after my 4th and (THANK YOU GOD!) last Geb Lonny class. Good riddance. Waste of money, time, and everything else. Honesty most unnecessary 4 credits of my college career. Can honestly say I did not learn a single thing over 4 courses.
You get out what you put in. It's annoying but it's also very helpful in the way that it forces you to do things to help you professionally that you would never otherwise do. The required books are really useful, and some (not all) of the activities will seriously make you better prepared for the real world. Don't waste your time - actually try!
A very strange class setup that is very unclear and difficult to stay on track with. The assignments are highly confusing, oddly graded, and worth very strange amounts of points. I do not see how this class has improved my life or taught me anything. It was simply a waste of time the university requires me to take.
Okay I get what everyone is saying about this class being mostly pointless. I agree. However to the people complaining about the quizzes being too hard really need to just stop. All you have to do is read (actually read for once) and you'll get good grades. Overall not hard at all but definitely an annoying class
The only people that this class actually helps, are people that need their hand held and are uncomfortable talking to adults. The material is so easy and obvious (eye contact, strong handshake) that if you don't know it, you shouldn't be in college anyway. Even though the material is easy, he finds a way to make it unorganized and time-consuming.
Read the whole book for a 10 question quiz kinda guy. Busy work teaches you nothing, it just numbs and dulls the mind, but then again that may be what they want. Waste of my money and time. It'd be better if they would combine all 4 classes into one 3/4 credit class. If I would have known about these classes, I may have gone to a different college.
Great man, great professor. Really cares about the students. Best professor at UCF
Simple class. Easy A (if you actually read). If the quizzes are "too hard" for you, you obviously haven't. I've never gotten less than a B on a quiz. Layout is 4 assignments and 4 quizzes, with an essay (assignment 5) at the end. You have to get 60 points through the semester, which is incredibly easy if you use the EXCHANGE or join an RSO.
UNORGANIZED
This class is not hard, but it is time consuming , collect the points, plus read the many pages and take quizzes. Also, four assignments and an essay at end of the semester. UCF should design this class again, and reduce those load of works, so students can pay attention to their major classes, other than that its easy A class.
This class is a lot of work for one credit... but if you're reading this you are required to take this class. Quizzes are impossible, so look at the material twice for them. Points aren't terrible, just get them done early. It does help to do stuff you like for activities. Overall, just get your stuff done.
Very suspicious that there are so many positive reviews this semester. Even more so is the fact that the ratio of useful to not useful votes is pretty even on recent reviews. If you go back a bit all the reviews are very negative and have 40+ useful votes. I'm not saying he writes his own reviews from different computers but who would that shock?
After taking 4 of these pointless GEB classes i'm am so glad i never have to take another class with Lonny again. For 1 credit he makes you do the most! UCF needs to just throw the whole GEB away along with Lonny, or make it into one 3 credit class, because 4 semesters of doing the same thing over and over again was torture.
Pretty easy class, not great but not bad
This class is more exciting than riding a roller-coaster over Tokyo with your dog while simultaneously competing in a chocolate milk chugging contest with your buddies for a prize of a million dollars! You'll have so much fun you won't want the class to end!!! I'm so pumped for next semester! I'm currently going through fun withdrawal! WOOHOO!!!!!!
You can tell that he really VALUES the students' success. Lonny Butcher, you get an A PLUS!!!!
Oh man. This is the most poorly organized class I have ever been in. If you email TAs there's a 50/50 chance they'll respond within a week. Just a big load of busy work that distracted me from my main business courses. The assignments aren't challenging just time consuming. I did bad on quizzes because I prioritized my real classes that matter.
Great class, had a lot of fun networking
I just completed the 3rd course. While the intention is good, the fact that you have to do four of these courses is a money grab by the professor and UCF. It does not matter anymore though as I am transferring to USF to complete my finance degree due to having trouble with another professor (J. Epstein). Go Knights and Bulls!!
So relieved to be done with Lonny and all his BS. Also find it interesting that all of the sudden he is receiving good reviews. Here lots of students complain about him, the TAs, and the waste of time class but haven't heard one student say anything good about him or the class!!
You pay for this class to have a professor, yet the only communication you get from the actual professor is an automated email he sends every Saturday of all assignments due. The class is structured to help you get a job after college but does NOTHING for those who already have a full-time job, the class is a BURDEN.
Lonny has a bad reputation around UCF for teaching a "pointless" course and yes, I will admit, there were times that I woke up at 9am and rushed to get 30 points in before 5pm (deadline). But this class actually got me my first job. I worked a career fair (for points) and coincidentally got hired on the spot. Meet him in person, he's a great guy!
Its ridiculous to see hes getting so many positives this semester and only this semester when everyone, including myself, finds this class to be such a waste of time. Its mandatory to take and it takes so much effort needed for a one credit class. Get it out of the way ASAP so you never have to deal with ridiculous and unnecessary course
He is the least competent professor in the school of business. He is extremely condescending even though he is highly unintelligent. His classes are the biggest waste of time and is just an opportunity for the school to make money. Him and his classes are the only black eye on the school of business. These classes will make you worse off.
"You get what you put into it." NOPE! I just read a 200 page book for a little 20 point quiz. Got a 10/20. Not because of limit of effort, or lack of retention from reading, but because his quizzes consist of questions with trick questions and multiple right answers. Class is a waste of time and the professor is a joke. Class doesn't belong at UCF
For all GEB A/B is not impossible but he tries to make it impossible. Various activities & quizzes to do for just a 1 credit class. Supposedly these GEB classes are to get you prepared to network, find a job, and shine but in reality its just heavy load of activity requirements. Do the work but just expect to put in more time than expected.
This class is so unnecessary and time consuming for a one credit course. So many assignments need to get done and constantly verifying your activities by making you do a list of things to get 10 points on an assignment.
I have always viewed the class as busy work and a waste of time. It exposes you to the school's career development services, which is great. However, they force your involvement to the degree of being cumbersome. The career project is easy. Don't read the whole thing, just scroll to the bottom and look for the activity section.
Class is an easy A, but still a waste of time and money. This semester he had us buy a $10 book, read 15 pages from it, take one quiz over it and that was it with that book. Getting tired of spending money on books that his friends wrote that all repeat the same thing over and over. "Look the person in the eye, give a firm handshake, and smile!"
Lonny butcher is at that the stage in his career where he "could have done great things". Unfortunately he's stuck in an everlasting midlife crisis where the only stigma of happiness he can achieve is by forcing pointless courses upon thousands of unwilling participants. Stifling the next generations motivation and aspirations in my opinion.
The course will do little to nothing to prepare you towards professional development. I actually feel it creates more of a hindrance towards my studies that geared toward my major. Get it out of the way as soon as possible and make sure you get your points done on time. I have plenty of friends who did little effort to gain their points and passed.
Well, I got my first B in over 2 years. Says a lot about this class. Haha
These classes are the worst and completely unavoidable part of being a business major at UCF. They don't teach much and pile on tons of busy work. Professor Butcher comes across as very condescending and rude in his emails. Avoid any of his classes and the UCF College of Business Administration.
Very nice guy. Funny and really tries to make the class as fun as possible
The absolute worst. Too bad there's no avoiding him in the COBA.
To be fair, the class is an easy A if you've already been doing the bare minimum to get involved in the COBA. The work is tedious but easy. What I dislike the most about him is that he sets up his webcourses page in the most unnecessarily complicated way possible. Nothing more annoying than having 30 million tabs open to complete one assignment.
Sign up for Friday lecture to just to have your spot taken by walk-ins. Absolute disgraceful professor and the sole reason many business students won't be donating to this college.
The geb classes aren't hard but they're really frustrating at times. Lonny does not give straightforward instructions on how to complete a lot of things. You have to click a bunch of links and read a lot just to explain a simple assignment. If anything I think this should be wrapped up in one class.
I should've enlisted in the Army after highschool because this course is actually worse than Basic Training and Ranger School. He makes information so difficult to find. Avoid at all costs.
Very easy, but a ridiculous amount of work for a ONE credit class. Every semester he changes the requirements and makes things more disorganised and getting points more difficult. Most students loathe these classes but we have to take them. Only silver lining is if you skip things and get a C, it won't impact your GPA.
For a 1 credit class Lonny will make you do a ton of work. The work itself is not hard but very tedious and you can tell he's not in it for the students but rather the money. He makes students buy useless books and online courses. He doesnt actually do anything for the class; he doesn't have lectures and doesn't grade papers. His TAs do everything
The college of business at UCF is wonderful... EXCEPT Lonny Buthcer. These 1 credit classes are more work then the three credit classes. He talks down to students and makes fun of them any chance he can get. While the main focus of these courses, four 1 credit classes (that are a waste of time) are building professionalism. Which he is not.
There's no real good way to study for his quizzes with how widespread the content is over. The quizzes also have multiple trick questions and multiple right answers. He's condescending and arrogant in his emails. Too much for for only one credit hours.
Participation for projects is so heavy.
GEB is just a money grab for Lonny and his buddy Alex. Class is a joke, waste of time and money. You now have to purchase the career cycle website login for $80 on top of all of the other useless books for these 1 credit hour classes. A scam that UCF somehow allows to continue. I can teach you everything I learned in this class in one word,Network
I love having a professor that structures his class in a very confusing manner, and then refuses to email you back when you have questions and need help! How this professor even has a job at this college is beyond me, he's so rude and makes you feel dumb for asking questions. Not professional whatsoever. This class is beyond stressful to navigate.
I took a semester off as I wanted to take 4004 in my last semester to skip the final for landing a job before graduation. Come to find out he now requires us to buy an $80 online access code, for a book I already have, just to turn in assignments. This class is such a waste of money as the book was $10 and now they charge $55 for the e-text.
Very complicated class thats spread out going in a million directions. Unfortunateley I thought it was going to be easy due to being one credit, I was totally wrong . As one previously student said he s very arrogant.
Lonny Butcher is not a good teacher. enough said
GEB is the worst class at the University of Central Florida. Please look at the the other reviews concerning Lonny Butcher.
If you do research into this class, you realize that no other institution of higher learning offers GEB. That is because its not a very good class as per every other review. Expect homework, quizes, test, expensive paid subscriptions, mandatory meeeting, attending seminars, expensive books, Mandatory interviews, video interviews , For 4 semsters
Lonny Butcher IMO is not a very good professor and very unpopular at UCF. His score confirms what many students believe. Be prepared for a lot of homework a lot of extracurricular activities that are time consuming .To be ignored by him and his TAs when emailed. You have to buy a book and a access pass over $150.
TOO BAD WE CAN'T AVOID THIS AWFUL PROFESSOR! GOD HELP US
This class makes me so mad. The fact that it is only worth 1 credit is absolutely ridiculous. I did less in GEB3006 and that class was worth 3 credits. I know that this class is mandatory for the COBA, but there should be another option. Lonny and his TAs grade so harshly, and they dont tell you what youre doing wrong.
Alot of students hate that GEB courses are required in the college of business and material is very repetitive but he makes students interact with professional clubs and employers. His classes are worth the material and are relevant to any career. My only problem was one TA, Anna Williams, made the class unnecessarily annoying.
Professor Lonny is a wonderful person but the TAs are awful people, If you need to speak to someone is best to make time and speak to Lonny in office hours.
Awful.
We don't learn anything and we are required to buy an online course to turn in assignments that we already have the textbook for from previous courses. Assignments could have easily been incorporated into webcourses for FREE, but no, we have to pay $80 to turn in assignments. It's easy work but a lot for a 1 credit hour course that's useless.
This class along with all the other GEBs felt like a complete waste of time. It honestly seems to me like UCF is using these to make the most amount of money as possible with the least amount of work. On top of that, Lonny is arrogant and acts bothered when asked about anything.
The GEB classes are a complete waste of time and money. They're easy to pass but you must do a bunch of activities for points outside of class to pass. Do these early in the semester. The two exams were very easy. The class is very disorganized on webcourses. If I could move to another school, I would. The COBA is awful at UCF.
This class was very easy. 2 exams, weekly assignments, get the 60 points. Its not as hard to get the points as people say, but I can understand it might be annoying if youre working, but there are activities that give you more points. Only thing I did not like is announcements dont get to the point, and too much reading for what can be condensed
Nothing really to say. Idk why ucf doesn't do anything about this.
All the GEB's are the same!! Tired of soing so much work for one credit and for it to be repetitive for 4 straight classes.
For a simple GEB class, Lonny makes this way harder than it needs to be. The syllabus and material is so unorganized. Im not sure how this man is qualified to teach. You have exams but good luck trying to figure out what the exams cover. Sadly he is the only teacher who teaches these courses at UCF. Good luck
Very unorganized. Does not specify what exactly goes into Quizes/Exams. The TAs are the worst I've dealt with, specifically Anna--very unprofessional and unwilling to help. UCF needs to do something about these GEB classes ASAP.
I've got the unpopular opinion that Lonny is a nice guy and the classes are not hard at all. That being said, his TA's are unbearable snobs. Please Lonny, for a professionalism class, you should get more professional acting TA's. I'm giving 3 stars basically as an average. For Lonny, 5, but his TA's, 0 if I could.
Just terrible
The class is pointless and takes away from time you could spend on your real classes. Lonny is condescending and so are his TA's. Findinf info on webcourses is like a scavenger hunt. Very unorganized. I would say avoid this class and professor but unfortunately you can't. Tests are super easy though.
A mega money grab by Ucf and its just sad. You make your student take a 3 credit hour class to do pointless things so you can fill up Lonny pockets. Ucf should feel ashamed at themselves for this sad attempt to steal more and more money out of their students
Just awful.
Unbelievably confusing set up on webcourses. It is comical that a class about organizing your future is so ridiculously unorganized. Makes us plan the entire semester on our first day and probably pretends "all my successful students follow it" when nobody does. It is a giant headache. And pointless.
This class is incredibly disorganized and a joke. Why do we have to take 4 identical classes that have the same assignments and exams? My best guess - easy money for UCF. The worst part of COBA.
Most embarrassing thing about UCF College of business. To take one of these classes would've been fine, but FOUR? Come on, does it have to be so obvious that this class is a money grab from the students that already have enough to pay on their own? UCF COBA should be ashamed of themselves.
This class is a mandatory scam by UCF. It's a one credit hour class and is taught by a horrible teacher with poor disorganization. I've been forging and faking most of my activities for the points and haven't set foot in the classroom at all because I feel so bad putting my hard earned money and time into something I don't want.
I could see how this could be of some help for some students, but if youre older and you already have your career set, this is a complete joke. And its got way too much work that you have to complete to pass this course. If youre working full-time, this is ridiculous like I said. If there was only a way to avoid! And communication is awful.
This course is absolutely horrendous! Poorly organized, way too much busy work, and good luck spending most of your time digging through multiple tabs just to figure out what you are even supposed to be doing for an assignment. This course helped me realize one thing though, I can't deal with 4 semesters of this class. I'll be changing my major!
This mandatory 3 credit hour course is a complete waste of money and a scam by UCF. Some students are working professionals that do not have time for networking, school activities/clubs, etc. which is what this course is about. It should not be made a mandatory course. UCF should consider reading these comments and removing this course.
The worst. The most unprofessional thing about College of Business. It is truly disgusting that UCF continues to allow this program. I have never seen such abhorrence of a professor and his class before. I'm tempted to change my major so I no longer have to deal with this.
This class was unnecessarily difficult. The structure is extremely disorganized and the professor was condescending and rude. The required "activity list" is a wild goose chase of trying to find instructions throughout Webcourses and the guidelines were hard to follow. Part of the reason I changed my major, sadly.
Very disorganized and continually adds on things to his curriculum. So when you are reading his assignments, you come across contradictions and missing information and sometimes redundancy. This class is pointless and just gives you busy work in the guise of professional development. It's a money-grab for UCF.
This mandatory class is a worthless cash-grab introduced by UCF. A waste of time, energy and money. Incredibly stressful, takes your time away from trying to pass classes that are actually worth your time. There will be the inevitable time where you forget the class exists and realize you have to RSVP for 4 events in one week and just hope you pass
Geb 3006 is the first out of 4 of his classes that the college makes you take. (If studying in COBA) He over explains everything in canvas and there's tons of documents and section that you have to go through to find work. You're best bet for this class is to ask other student who has taken the course before you what are the things you have to do.
breh just switch ur major to avoid this class
This class is a complete waste of time. The professor (if you can even call him that) is just a joke and the material is so forced.
This class is kind of a good concept to get students engaged in career decisions- but not for the same. three. other. classes. that we have to take. Webcourses page is so messy, it took me two weeks to understand everything. All in all, it's not that hard but a giant waste of time.
Bad personality, very rigid, and responsible for what is possibly the most useless string of classes at the university. Lots of his assignments are nothing but busy work that pulls away from your actual classes that matter for your field of study. I'd try to get as much of this class out of the way as soon as you start the semester. It will help.
Although attendance was only mandatory once throughout the semester, the amount of work that goes into activities to reach a certain threshold of activity points was insane. A good class in theory, but poorly executed and felt way too repetitive and disorganized to actually learn helpful skills.
The amount of useless work for this 1 credit class is just wrong. Finding out what you have due every 2 weeks by searching thru an email he sents out that is many pages long and filled with random links suck. Quizzes was confusing and one of them we had to watch a 2 hour video that was filmed in the back of a lecture hall with the very first iphone
In charge of the most pointless classes at UCF. Nothing but a cash grab and the guy's personality is terrible. The online layout is way too confusing and he sends out too much information all at once. His classes take away from your major focused classes and force you to waste your time doing things that are really nothing more than busywork.
These are required by the school of business. This is the biggest waste of time and money. Grading takes forever so the sooner you turn in your work the better. Stay ahead and make sure to familiarize yourself with the syllabus (terrible). Good luck!
So confusing and unnecessary. He sends your assignments in huge emails with links all over the place that do not always lead to the assignment. This class would be fine if it was not spread out over 4 semesters.
Honestly the worst professor. He has no heart for students and GEB is a waste of a course. UCF YOU NEED TO OPEN YOUR EYES AND SEE WHAT STUDENTS ARE SAYING! you want students to pass but then give them unnecessary classes like this. Honestly waste of time and money.
Listen, the GEB classes are great in theory and garbage in execution. They need to be tailored by major because they try to blanket statement too much and what works for marketing majors doesn't always work for accounting majors. It's the best feeling to be done with them though! Lonny is also a nice person if you're nice to him (shocking, I know).
Not a very good class. Very convoluted. You might wanna skip the UCF school of business if you wanna avoid this class.
This class is overall the worst class I've ever taken. His other GEB classes are the same. Needlessly confusing and unorganized, a ridiculous amount of work for little reward. He quizzes on the specific wording in the book rather than the concepts- you don't need to memorize the wording in order to understand the concepts. I gained 0 value.
Level of work for a 1 credit class is too high. Need 30 points worth of activities in both halves of semester; takes high effort/time. If there are technical difficulties in submitting a project, there is no chance of getting credit for the countless hours of work done. Submission windows are only open for 7 days, can't get ahead on assignments.
How has Lonny scammed his way into ucf. He teaches the only class that is required by all business majors on how to get to the one. But my boy Lonny hasnt even gotten to the one and has somehow tricked dean Jarley into thinking that he has some insight into doing so. Lonnys resume looks like he hasnt even got started. Bravo Lonny you got all of
The event point system is terrible
Expects people just starting in their major to already have high level connections, money for formal wear, time to go anywhere, and the social experience to thrive in a business setting. These are pretty much pre-requisites for his classes that are taken by a lot of people who aren't even 20 yet. I could write an essay about how horrible this is.
Dude was awful! The point system is screwed up and makes it impossible to pass if you accidentally miss something, or if you have anxiety.
So.... this class isn't "hard". The exams are actually easy! It's just A LOT. Like. When I say a lot, I mean it. There were so. many. assignments. A lot didn't even make sense. Like where we had to do like 10 assignments revolving around some personality tests. This class is mandatory and honestly, half of our assignments don't help us learn.
Listen, a lot of us at UCF don't like GEB and I understand that. But I can see the value in doing the activities outside of class for networking purposes and other things. But this professor is awful, he is the worst at doing anything and he doesn't even teach in the first place. He is rude and unhelpful in every way. GEB is required so be careful.
East class, professor is just not professional at all. AND ITs A PROFESSIONALISM CLASS
Lonny's trying to get us out and do things, and I respect that. Having it four times, keeps us reflecting and forced to think about what we are doing. The thing I don't like is the long announcements that could be condensed and his tone in the announcements just sounds kinda rude at times. He makes me feel guilty for not networking 24/7.
It makes me so happy knowing that I will never have to take a class "taught" by Lonny ever again. Unfortunately everyone in the college of business has to take his series of 4 classes. Just a heads up make sure to stay on top of Activity Points and know that these 4 classes will be the biggest waste of time/money in the college of business. GL
It is as bad as you think. Semester after semester, UCF does nothing to fix this criminally bad, money grab scheme. Most worthless "professor" and class I have ever had. Unfortunately, if you are reading this, it will likely not be an option to not take part in this course. I'm sorry this has to happen to you. please write an email to UCF about it.
Professor is extremely condescending to students, talks down to us, and has a rude attitude. He should take a class on being a good leader! Super long announcements, unorganized layout with assignments all over, however it is easy to pass.
I work full time and had to leave work so many times just to get 5 points here and there. These GEB classes drove me nuts, and do not cater to the full-time workers at all!!!! Class is VERY unorganized. UCF, please think of another option!!
This professor is actually the worst. His syllabus makes no sense and is so confusing to read. The class has a great idea behind it but is so poorly executed. UCF needs to listen to it's students when a large amount of its students don't pass and it takes away from learning that is actually important
The most unorganized class ive ever taken. Ucf please use a different method of teaching for this course.
The absolutely worst professor and class I have ever taken being at UCF. I honestly do not understand why UCF continues to make students take classes with material that is contrary to what you learn in the workforce. The prof is a JOKE and literally wears bee costumes.
He is the worst professor in the College of Business. It is bad enough that the college requires us to take these classes and what is worse is that they are taught so poorly. He is very rude and condescending, the material is repetitive and very poorly formatted. So happy I am done with these courses and with Lonny.
This class is a complete joke and a waste of time. If you make a simple mistake you will not receive full credit even when you were able to explain why. The class is supposed to help you be more involved in COBA, however, even the students that are already involved in organizations and have internships are still forced to take part in this class.
Worst and by far the most uninvolved professor with a class I have ever seen in my life. This course is just a money grabber from UCF.
Horrible professor. The class is so boring I could not do it a fourth time and it caused me not to graduate (got a D+) when I told my whole family I was graduating. Now I have to retake GEB 4004 1 credit class during fall. I hate Lonny Butcher and he makes me frown upon UCF.
It is literally my first day and I already know this class will be a pain for me. The class looks interesting and the idea is great, but professor Butcher treats it like it is the capstone class of your major. You can even look back at the questions to see what you got wrong on the SYLLABUS QUIZ! I love UCF, but they need to administrate the profs.
An actual clown. They require us to take his course 4 times which is basically the exact same structure. The class is pointless and is 100% busy work to fill time and be annoying. The worst part is he takes it super seriously like its literally a joke. The courses itself are easy but the fact we are forced to take them is asinine.
This is class is going to KILL me. It is SO MUCH! Please UCF, if anyone reads this, I BEG you to take these GEB classes out of the curriculum! I would RECONSIDER attending UCF if I knew i had to take these courses, and because of the HUGE workload for THIS ONE CLASS! It makes my actual major classes much more difficult because of this class!
This is the worst professor in the existence of professors. He genuinely believes that he creates an easy interface to navigate but he simply wastes every persons time. I genuinely do not understand how this class exists.
Im in GEB3006 but nevertheless, Butcher SUCKS. The interface he created on Canvas is ridiculously confusing. There's 30 links in one module that link you all around the course. Honestly is overwhelming when you go to do HW not to mention a lot of the work seems like busy work! In addition i had the luck of taking it during Covid so no in person.
Horrible. Makes his page so difficult to navigate, and if you have a job outside of school? GOOD LUCK. This is the most unnecessary waste of time and money. We have to take four semesters, and suffer with Lonny the entire time. His assignments do not show up until AFTER THEY ARE DUE! But guess that's our fault? Goodbye to my 4.0 GPA and my sanity.
The class is a great idea but come on. I work two jobs to be able to pay for housing and classes, on top of a full school schedule. And now I'm expected to scramble to do activities outside of class to get points. At the least you'd think he'd give more resources to be able to find professionals in your field. By far, the worst class at UCF.
What an absolute joke of a "class". This course is nothing more than a cash grab used to milk students who are going through business school and trying to learn actual useful skills. The content is nonsensical, his web course is messy, and the quizzes don't even have proper grammar. I would be embarrassed if this was my career as a "professor".
What kind of prof puts content that is going to be tested on in the ANNOUNCEMENTS? You can read the career cycle and watch the module videos and somehow still fail the tests because you didn't check an announcement one time. I still don't know where he's pulling these questions from.
F this class and F this professor.
This class is 100% busy work and is a complete waste of time. You learn nothing and have to go through a lot of pointless garbage in order to pass the class. I have spent more time on this class than some of my major classes.
Easily worst professor at UCF. Four classes are based off the same material, huge waste of time and money. UCF College of Business is dreaded because of these classes.
Having taken Lonny for the other GEB classes, this one is more of the same. To me, this class feels like an enormous waste of time for 90% of students. This is the 3rd iteration of GEB classes I've taken, and its basically the exact same thing every time. Not worth the money. It honestly feels like Lonny HATES and looks down on his students.
This class is a paradox "students need to go to MY meetings to because I know how to get a job" but is extremely impractical for students who already have a job and don't have excessive amounts of free time outside of class
The organization of this class is horrendous, I truly will never undertand why Prof Butcher can't just simply state the assignment I need to complete in a sentance rather than providing a times new roman, 12 point font, double spaced mla formatted essay to describe that I just need to turn in a quiz. Also assignments are always due at 5 pm??
This class is easy, just make sure you are organized and schedule your weekly activities ahead of time. They often fill up fast, I would recommend the first week of class just book a ton of zooms. If you get extra activities done then you get extra credit and can miss a few assignments in the end of the semester. Work smarter not harder lol
On top of this Professor being rude and ignoring your emails, he makes you take zoom events just to listen how he likes his cheese sandwich to be made. Events that are just schedule during regular work hours, hence you will literally find yourself at risk of getting fired from work because he doesn't care about working students.
Not a real class just busy work and more money wasted
Boring & unnecessary class, I already have a job in my career so I don't need this class but that's not the professor's fault. Just prepare to waste money & do a lot of dumb stuff.
Disaster of a teacher and even worse class. UCF requires you to take this class with this teacher, and it was the absolute worst. With teachers like this, it is apparent that UCF's standards are incredibly low. If I could go back in time and go to a different college, I would. What an awful class. 0/5 stars.
This class isn't hard it's just absolutely ridiculous that we have to take four of these. As far as Lonny goes, I'm not sure what he does . He taught us how he likes to make cheese sandwiches. His canvas interface is set up very poorly as well. You'll get used to all the busy work though. It'll be fine.
This class gotta be the stupidest class I've ever taken at UCF. If I know that this class is a requirement at UCF. I would've never transfer here.
1. To see how the class is laid out, read line 5 2. unrelated anecdote go to line 8 3. line 10 4. Important info on line 2 5. Hi, heres a bunch of useless info, read line 9 6. This class is important! line 3 7. Make sure you read line 4 8. bad pun, go to 6 9. Heres a boring video, go to line 7 10. unclear assignment instructions
Worst teacher, worst class. I was excited to go to UCF, however classes and teachers like this make me wish I went elsewhere. UCF has other teachers I despise, however Lonny takes the cake as the worst. Should not be a teacher.
exceptionally useless class. due dates are baits for normal students. You lose 60% of you credit if you dont do a single assignment by a random deadline he decides. Really interesting teaching method lonny! braindead course that makes you wonder why you are enrolled in such a lame university. Quality is never priority only random quirky rules!
This class isn't difficult but it's a bunch of pointless busy work. I'm doing stuff I do anyways for career prep, like LinkedIn and personality assessments, but for strict deadlines. If you want to have a life, this class will be miserable. The interface is convoluted and assignments are due by 5pm. Don't be like me and book Zooms EARLY!
Absolute waste of time and money. All 4 GEB are pointless and extremely repetitive. This is my 3rd geb, and it is exactly the same as the other 2. Assignments can be overly complex, annoying, and get in the away of actually important classes. The class is also very poorly organized which is ironic because of how much organization is stressed.
Yes, these GEB classes are repetitive. The GEB webcourses page is all over the place. It looks intimidating but it's not that bad. GEB has gotten me out of my comfort zone and pushed me to think about the next steps after college. Lonny is a nice guy who cares about his students. At first, I hated this class. Now, I appreciate it.
Why should pay to learn how to make a resume and linkedin account? The instructions per homework are 20 pages long with 50 links. Time constraints on quiz is 1 min per question (questions are long too). This class sets international students/ non-native English speaker for failure. Dont bother emailing them. They reply with copy-pasted responses.
Class is very disorganized and difficult to navigate.
Lonny Butcher is the most disliked professor in UCF. He is very unorganized. He sends out weekly announcements that are copy pasted from earlier GEB classes that we already paid for & completed. His instructions have at least 11 links and consist of 4,000 minimum. This is a complete money grab. I'd give him and this class a Zero rating if I could.
Unorganized class designed by someone who likes to click links. Seriously, to get instructions for an assignment you have to go to AT LEAST 4 different webpages. Class is not hard just mind numbing. Have not learned anything in any GEB classes so far. Waste of time & money, speaking of which this course is a money grab. I despise this "professor".
Hopefully this comment will help prepare a student for Lonny... Just suck it up. There's no way around his classes; which is very unfortunate. I personally have not had one positive experience taking any of his 3+ required business courses. Just try to take it one semester at a time... He's MySpace; in a world controlled by Instagram. Best of luck
One of the worst classes I have ever taken. The intention of the course is recognized, however, this is the type of course that makes you doubt why you are going to this university. The work load is incredibly meticulous and definitely not worth the one credit. It truly upsets me to see a plethora of other students feeling the same way that I am.
Unrealistic expectations for students working full time jobs and taking his class. Zoom sessions are scheduled on works days during inaccessible hours for people with jobs. He does not care, will still give you a zero if you try to complete the alternate assignments.
This professor is a fool and makes the university look like a joke. some weeks it will be more work than your actual major classes for some reason. He doesn't understand the canvas platform because he's a dumb boomer - Just go to the zoom events and fill out the forms. make sure your write at least 5 sentences on the CRP assignments
Bruh idk why is rating is so low. This class is easy, but PAY ATTENTION TO THE POINT SYSTEM. This class is pass/fail and a lot of people fail because they put off their assignments to the last minute and realize they didn't get the points they needed to pass. Do everything early, read that syllabus 50 times, and you'll pass with no problem.
Any GEB class is pointless. The assignment is not very straight forward on what to do. So much reading and for what ? Get to the point ! It's a waste of money. He doesn't care nor the other GEB professor
His announcements are ridiculously long. Too much works for 1 credit course. The quizzes're not given enough time for a paragraph long question. You will find yourself wasting time and money for this series.
This extremely disorganized and convoluted busy-work course series is a stain on UCF's college of business otherwise great reputation. Lonny is an immature man with a very fragile ego. This 4 class sequence could easily be reduced to one semester, but instead it's a petty cash grab that lasts 4 semesters.
WOW. Taking my 3rd GEB with Lonny Butcher and what do you know? The EXACT same as the other 2 and I am 100% sure the 4th class will be the same as well. When I say the class is exactly the same as the 2 before it, i mean EXACTLY alike. Same syllabus, assignment list and unnecessarily long instructions for everything. DOES NOT CARE AB STUDENTS
Absolutely joke of a class, I don't even know where to begin. First off, all these GEB classes are literally the exact same which is a complete waste of time AND money for a one-credit hour class. It's so embarrassing how the class emphasizes organization yet I feel like it's a clues game trying to find the instructions for a single assignment.
This class is a pointless copy and paste class that just sucks. its just 4 classes of regurgitated knowledge students should know before entering college, students in their junior and senior year already know this stuff. This class is a scam. So many, including myself, dropped this class this summer because of all the impossible to-do list work.
This class is a bigger waste of time and money than running in circles! This is my 3rd GEB and I have learned ABSOLOUTLEY NOTHING. I got a job this summer ON MY OWN. "Career readiness"? It gets in the way of my career. Take time from work for a GARBAGE CLASS!!!!!!! GET RID OF IT!! LONNY U FRIKIN SUCK, SO DOES UR CLASS. WE ALL HATE U!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was my first GEB class(meaning 3 more to go, yay!). I cannot agree more that this whole GEB thing is a money grab. The modules are super messy, confusing, and full of garbage. The assignments are pointless and are very time consuming. The Career-to-do activities are quite easy though. Because of Covid-19, every event is held virtually.
Class sucks. Loads of homework and the people that created this course are very unorganized. Have fun.
Just a bunch of busy work in a poorly organized class. Have fun wasting time you could use on other classes
This is easily the worst professor I have ever had the pleasure of taking. If you're studying business don't go to UCF.
You want a class thats horribly organized, a complete waste of time, and is such bs you contimplate your own state of life? well GEB does that for ya. I'm so baffled that so many students have issues with this class and UCF does jack squat to do anything about it. Get out before its too late
The most pointless and repetitive class at ucf, the class is a money grab by the university, the professor is just terrible with no value added to your learning and there is just no substance in this class. sad that its mandatory course at ucf.
Im thinking about transferring to UF because of this series of classes. Thats all i have to say.
He is just rude. every business student at UCF has to take this class, 4 times. He will make you do these outside of class activities, but if to many students do them, he changes it and makes it harder to do. They don't care about any one. this class takes more time to do then any other class because of the hoops you have to jump through.
Seriously the most unprofessional professor ive ever had. It's unfortunate hes the only option for the GEB courses. Does not care about your outside circumstances and grades based on things not in the rubric. Course is nearly impossible to excel in while working a job in school based on the obligations outside of class required to pass.
This course is a fricking maze to figure out how to do. They put the least amount of effort into designing this course, and expect you to give 1001%. Honestly, The only way this class will ever get better is if UCF actually cares to stop it. But they don't, It is an easy cash grab for them. This class makes me embarrassed to go be a UCF student.
I HATE ALL THE GEB CLASSES!! Useless and you won't learn anything, there's only one thing you gain from these classes --> anxiety
the worst class and professor you can have. they overload you with information and expect you to read every last paragraph and video they post when it isnt necessary to what youre at all. no makeups or help from professor. you are basically teaching yourself
No Lonny, using chili as a metaphor was neither clever nor endearing.
Let's just say I had to watch a video of Lonny Butcher playing fetch with his dog and making cheese sandwiches and he called it a "covid lecture".
Are you here for MAN4720? No COBA students, even those who have A+ on GEB would recommend him for MAN4720. He is very condescending & reads transcripts during lectures. I emailed him once and he yelled at me like Im in 6th grade. For the love of UCF, take Main or Cordova, or drop the course, or exit COBA, or transfer University.
Lonny Butcher made the course much more complicated than it should be, by over-explaining every aspect with a page of information that is hard to find and can be important to know. You have to spend a whole week understanding the aspects of the course and its assignments when you first take the course. Also if you work, this class will be tough.
It's the SAME class 4 semesters in a row. GEB3006, GEB3005, GEB4223, and GEB4004 are IDENTICAL with the exception of slightly different wording in the quizzes. Same activity points, same essay, same final, etc. How in the world did this scheme get past the board members??? It doesn't help at all that Lonny extremely condescending and non-caring.
I have done well in the 2 courses I have needed to take for GEB but I am seriously considering leaving the college of business all together because of this professor & his courses. I am taking the same class over & over again to learn information that could have been one chapter in one business class. These classes feel like a waste of time & money
The course itself is easy.. if it were designed a different way by someone else. Its the assignments and never ending scavenger hunts that make it extremely difficult to earn points. Everything is over-explained and repetitive to the point of confusion. The only thing youll gain from this course is severe anxiety.
Im only just finishing the second course of this 4 part series. I can honestly say, Im Seriously considering switching to UF or my major. If you have a Job, other classes, and/or personal responsibilities, good luck trying to keep up with this course.
Lol, this class is honestly just a cash grab. I, as a person who has gotten A's on all the GEBs, still find these courses to be tedious, repetitive, and just downright annoying. They're easy enough assignment wise, but the work is just mindless busy work. It's 4 classes teaching you how to write resumes and do interviews, such a waste of time lol.
This is straight up the worst professor in the college of business. So disorganized and singlehandedly makes me hate my major.
The class itself is utter garbage. But UCF requires it, so everyone has to take it. It is basically the same class repeated four times, but it gets unnecessarily harder every time. I went into the only in person class with an open mind, but I was soon discouraged and irritated when he told all the the men in the class to not "mansplain"Unbelievable
Just a down right mean man. Im so shocked he still has a job at UCF
Bad professor with unorganized website. Links on the page will lead you to the page you're already on. Lots of hidden information. No mercy for problems, especially covid related. Even gives half points for doing identical assignments in a covid safe way, like a zoom interview vs in person
I had Professor Butcher through the GEB Career Cycle before having him in Capstone. I can honestly say that he is so much better when he is teaching in front of a smaller class compared to the thousand student classes he used to teach. You really see a more personal side to him and your grade will depend on your groups work ethic.
You're going to hear a lot of negative things about Lonny but he is actually a great professor and a great person. Before I had his class I was worried because of what I heard but he's a stand up guy who just needed a chance to show people he wasn't who people thought he was. Overall 10/10.
I wanted to preface this by saying I graduated a lil while ago and now have a full time job and I was reflecting on my college experience and thought about how Lonny was one of the most negative aspects of it. Disgustingly unprofessional via email and on such an insane power trip. Unfortunately I couldn't avoid taking his classes. Horrible.
If you are taking this class and see Lonny name come up avoid at all costs. the class average on exams were 50-65. If that doesn't tell you how difficult this class is with Lonny. I don't what to tell you because you will be in for a ride throughout the semester. We submitted over 80 pages of of assignment from his book reviews to projects.
Had this guy for GEB. Like most people, I absolutely hated him from that and hated that course. Had him again a few years later for keystone management, to say my opinion did a 180 would be an understatement, he's a really cool dude, with a lot of passion for what he does and made coming to class and coming out of your comfort zone rewarding.
Man, When I first signed up for Lonny I was nervous cause of previous reviews. But what I will say is for a Proffesor to admit he was wrong in the past in the way he handled his students takes a lot of courage and gained my respect right off the bat. Lonny cares about his students, teaches and communicates effectively, and is a great guy. Highlyrec
I was nervous taking Lonny after my previous experiences with him in GEB, but I decided to take his Capstone. He has changed a lot since GEB, and this class size suits him much more. He gives great feedback, is friendly, and really respects those who care about the class. MAKE SURE YOU REALLY CHAT AND PICK GOOD GROUP MATES OR YOU WILL NOT DO WELL.
I would not take this class if you do not have to. This is genuinely one of the hardest classes I have taken (I am a senior) but not because the content is hard. You take an in-class quiz on pencil and paper every week with the questions being completely random and specific things that were only briefly discussed. Exams are difficult as well.
I had a horrible time with this class. You have to take an in-person quiz on just the content that he stutters over for an hour, which is really unfair because it does not give the students any time to process or study the information. The exams are also extremely hard, often tanking students' grades. If you can avoid him, I would.
If you are a senior needing a Capstone prof, Lonny is your guy. My team bought him cupcakes, shrimp rings, and grape soda throughout the semester and he loved us. Take Lonny if you can.
Love this guy, only professor you should take for Capstone.
He gives great feedback, is friendly, and really respects those who care about the class. MAKE SURE YOU REALLY CHAT AND PICK GOOD GROUP MATES OR YOU WILL NOT DO WELL.
Overall a funny and nice guy who likes to share experiences that compare to what we are learning. 4 book reports that are a minimum of 8 pages each, and even after 8 pages it might be marked as incomplete. HW and quiz due after every class. His lecture slides are pretty straight forward. Do well on the quizzes = doing well on the exams.
I know prof Butcher taught some GEB classes in the past that everyone hated BUT, TAKE HIM FOR CAPSTONE!! This dude is AWESOME!! He's funny, he's smart and I actually learned a lot! Highly recommned
Lonny cares a lot about his students and wants you to do well, especially since you are in your senior year capstone class. He is by far the best capstone lab professor, grades you easier than others, and really helps you get better with your presenting skills.
I am not sure why his ratings are lower. He is very kind and tries to make students laugh. I found he was lenient with grading and seemed like he wanted students to succeed. He seems genuinely passionate about teaching and would be happy to help if you need anything.
Lonny is a great professor who really cares about his students. The class can be tough, but going to office hours and using resources like unstuckstudy ai for study prep makes a big difference. Definitely take him for your Capstone course.
He is not bad. The problem is there are other lab professor who goes WAY easier on you in terms of grading the proposal, assignments, and presentations. While some professors give you extra cred for just showing up, for him you have to complete ALL OF THE not required assignments AND write 5 page papers. Great dude, hilarious, but it's frustrating.
He is a nice professor who cares about students. The class is a little annoying though, with 4 8-page book reports and you'll have to figure out how to answer some complicated exam/quiz questions from convoluted lectures. Overall not bad but I feel like I not learn much and spent too much time reading books that had no relation to the subject.
Prof. Butcher, had immense responsibility overseeing the professional wellbeing of thousands of students at UCFCBA as Head of GEB. He put his heart into his work & did the best he could creating curricula for a highly diverse population. He cares about students & deserves respect for pioneering the 1st Career Program @ UCF CBA with few resources.
Prof. Butcher, I want to personally thank you for granting me opportunities to learn, grow & gain exposure as a professional. I am sorry I did not realize all of the help/exposure you gave me in the moment due to my own lack of maturity and overwhelment. Thank you for all that you have done for me. I'm eternally appreciative. Go Knights!
GEB had to have been a massive misrepresentation of what an amazing professor he is. He was the best for capstone and really cares about students and their success. The class was a lot of work but he provided great feedback and offered extra credit. I also appreciate that he took the time to make an online shrm-cp prep course!!
Lonny is an amazing professor, and I would only recommend him for your capstone class. This was a perfect class to end my experience at UCF on.
Lonny was a great, down to earth guy. Maybe I'm a little oblivious but these capstone classes are no joke. Weekly attendance is a must to a 3 hour class period where there are massive group projects and assignments weekly. Certainly tough to take during summer.
Lonny is such a great professor and an even better dude. Capstone is a great class to take with him, makes you feel comfortable during the presentations. Definitely a tough grader, and most assignments that would be optional are mandatory in this class.Actually a good thing though because you have all your info for the report and presentation.
