Lectures were lacking and often unorganized. You basically get all info needed from the book.ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT REQUIREMENTS on assignments. Often she omits required details. However she grades fairly and her tests are fair in difficulty level.
Lora is a fun lab instructor and she's really helpful answering questions and clarifying topics.
Lecture portion of this class stated that there were 3 exams and a Final. There were random tests that were not on the syllabus. Syllabus stated that students are responsible for keeping track of their own grade. As of week 4, nothing returned. How are we to keep track? Also, things on tests that were never in lecture or in book.
Very generous grader. Fairly easy to follow in lecture as she gives copies of the powerpoints. Does not return emails quickly, so if you need a lot of help, she isn't the right teacher for you. Try to take both lecture and lab from her, I think that helped me. I really enjoyed her class, and feel I am well prepared to take more Bio classes.
Lora was an ok instructor. Most of the class seemed to have a hard time understanding her test questions on the first few exams. She would go off on tangents a lot, which would put us behind. She was a fair grader
WOW, completely unreasonable with attendance policy. Seemed like she could have been an interesting instructor. She did not seem to be fair.
The first few weeks were really shaky. Most students did poorly on her first test, but if you studied and used the materials provided (study questions etc) you did OK. She uses some other teacher's power points and materials-aggravating. The class got better as she got more excited about the materials, and the weaklings dropped.
Great instructor - very excited about what she teaches and likes it when students get involved and ask questions. She has a lot of quizzes, but drops the lowest quiz score and the lowest test score which is really helpful when you are trying to get used to an instructor. This is a class you have to study for!
She is very smart and knows what she's talking about. She has very limited skills in helping those who don't understand the material get it. If you're really bright, you'll be annoyed by her, if you need a lot of clarification, you will be very confused. Slow at returning small assignments, and never has power points ready BEFORE lecture.
Tests are hard but if you study you should do OK. She will point out "important" info which means it will be on a test so pay attention! Mini-quizzes every day so attendance is mandatory. Very knowledgable instructor and seems to enjoy teaching. Study the diagrams!! Could give more direction in lab however.
Awesome instructor!!! Likes to fly by the seat of her pants a bit but she makes sure everyone understands the information. For those whining about getting behind, we only got behind because many ppl in the class expected to be carried through the course w/o any outside work... but this isn't high school and she doesn't teach like it is. She is fair
Waste of time and money! The most unorganized teacher, good luck getting any of your papers back!
Great instructor. Was very engaged in teaching and always had great anecdotes for lectures. She does expect you to pay attention and never tested outside of her class objectives. If the material was on the objectives, it was fair game. Study and you will be just fine.
Lora is really tough. She moves very quickly, and seems annoyed when people are not understanding the material. She is not approachable with extra help. Her tests are very difficult. She does not clarify. Only the strong survive in her classes.
Def not the easiest class but she is fair. Tests are hard, she words questions tricky on purpose, but she offers lots of other points to make up for it. I enjoyed her class, she's laid back and not intimidating. Always open to answer questions. Lectures are clear. If you study you'll do well and feel accomplished.
She is great teacher. She is very laid back. She doesn't fuss over small details in the labs and is very fair in the way she grades. She is also very understanding and cuts people a lot of slack when they need it. (Plus she grades on a curve)TAKE HER COURSE!!! Awesome teacher
Hard class.Study and you will do well. Take her advice on the syllabus on how much you need to study and use the objectives because you will have to put a lot of work in to pass. Lora is rad!
Lora's class was challenging, but she is good instructor and is willing to work with students that need help if the student shows effort. I went on to take 3 more upper division science classes and did well because of the foundations I learned in Lora's class.
Lora is a very, VERY SMART professor. Her class is HARD, but she is there to help, you just need to ask and take the time to spend with her. I had a hard time with this class and I fought hard for my grade, I only wish I would have spent more time with her because she really is there to help her students.
Lora makes the class interesting and fun. You have to study and work for your grade, but the bonus is that you actually learn something!
WONDERFUL TEACHER AND PERSON. SHE IS SMART, FUNNY AND VERY HELPFUL AND REASONABLY ACCOMMODATING TO PERSONAL CIRCUMSTANCES. I RECOMMEND HER HIGHLY. HER LECTURES ARE WELL THOUGHT OUT AND PRESENTED. STUDY WHAT SHE PRESENTS AND YOU'LL DO WELL IN HER LECTURES AND LAB.
Lora makes lectures entertaining with many anecdotal stories and fun facts that make the class entertaining. And she's willing to answer questions of curiosity about her lecture, but stays on tract. She is very clear and makes sure you understand, all you have to do is speak up.
Excellent professor. Took this course once a week every Saturday. I was unsure if I was going to have a good instructor because who wants to teach on a Saturday? She was fair, knew what she was talking about and helped set me up for success in this course. She makes the material manageable to understand. Wish she taught A&P
The first biology class I ever enjoyed. She knows her subject and is able to simplify it for students by outlining things by hand on the whiteboard and using personal examples. Her lectures are interesting and humorous and she has a pleasant demeanor. Go to class, read the chapters, know the objectives and the exams will be a piece of cake.
Laura is an awesome teacher. Her class is NOT easy, but if you put in the work you'll do great. Her love of biology is so apparent, and it makes learning from her a blast. BEWARE, Laura's tests are all multiple choice from the publisher's test-bank...You may understand biology, but you better brush up on test taking skills!
Really smart, really kind, plus energetic and funny. One of the better teachers I've ever had. She's good at catering to both people who are struggling in the class and people who want to know more.
Lora is enthusiastic and funny. The quizzes are pretty easy but the tests are tough. She doesn't tolerate nonsense in class and takes a lot of time to explain the material using powerpoint, demos and drawings on the board. She will take the time to explain what you don't understand and she drops your lowest quiz, midterm and homework scores.
Took her weekend class. If you ask questions she is more than happy to help. She wants her students to succeed. Some people say her class isn't easy, but compared to the one I took last time, hers is much easier and clear. Don't miss class and study at home, you'll be set. BI 112 is not for the weak;)
She's a fun lecturer and helpful during class, but doesn't really communicate outside of class, which means it's up to you to stay on track. Bad idea to take this with no bio or chem background; it's an accelerated class not designed to spend time drilling new concepts. Grading's fair. Course objectives match test questions, which come from a bank.
Lora is an amazing instructor. She takes her time teaching the class. Her tests are prey difficult, but if you focus you will succeed. (:
Lora's lectures were engaging and interesting. I felt supported by her as a professor - she gave lots of positive feedback and made clear her openness to checking in with us when we had questions or needed help.
Very knowledgeable. Lectures are fun but goes off topic, schedule gets behind so then rushes and has no time for legitimate questions. Also doesn't know how to handle non-traditional students that are having issues with basic concepts. Quick to temper when frustrated. Only the strong survive in her class, no time for less knowledgeable.
Laura is awesome and funny, I think she'd make a great friend. That being said I felt like as a teacher she was very distracted and disorganized. She explains things clearly, making them relevant to real life. Tests were hard but fair. I loved her sense of humor but it was apparent that much of the class did not. Better for older students.
This is a hard class! Lora is hard to follow but is willing to help if you need it. STUDY! STUDY! STUDY! and show up to class. If you do that you will be fine. Plan on teaching yourself most things. Also read the first couple chapters of your book prior to the first day. She will be lecturing on them and it will be easier to follow.
Lora Crampton knows her stuff, she is able to explain things so they make sense and relay them to actual real life experiences.
All day Saturday BUT, worth it! Diagrams & charts are fantastic. She definitely hits all learning styles. Tests are hard but study the learning objectives & take notes on the power points & you'll do fine. Multiple choice btw. Put effort in your MicroWorlds! She loves when they're complete plus it's fun. I loved this class! She reads these. Hi!
This was the teacher I had for Lab. She had great lectures covering content better than Sandy Neps, but her tests were difficult and the Microworlds project that I finished following the directions completely was graded worse than my peers who did half the 25 submissions that were called for. She will agree then change her mind. Difficult
I wish she taught A&P!! Her slides really pick out the most important elements from the book - so much so that I only used the book a handful of times throughout the course just to clarify a thing or two. She was super interesting - gave the information in a really straightforward way but allowed for cool tangents to give context. Lora rules!
Somehow Lora managed to make an all-day Saturday class fun and engaging. She's high energy and has a good sense of humor. Her lectures and power points break down very dense text book material clearly. If you study the objectives and slides, you'll do well. I highly recommend her.
Lora explained concepts in ways that made them really easy to understand and helped boil the material down to what was important and applicable to our success as students and health care workers. She is invested in her students success and helps you clearly understand what is expected and how you can do better. Great instructor!
Lora was one of the greatest instructors I have experienced. She attempted to make the content fun and interesting and was very knowledgeable. She had the ability to make very difficult concepts easy for me to remember and focused on useful and practical material
I took an all day Saturday class from Lora. She was amazing! She explains concepts well and takes time with each student. If you put in the effort, you will get an A.
Lora is the BEST! She is very fun, energetic and clued into various learning styles which makes the material easier to grasp. Labs are fun with Lora as well. She cares and teaches not only the material but also gives great testing advise, her tests are hard but prepare you well for 200 level testing methods. HUGE fan - highly recommended.
Lora is a very enthusiastic and passionate about Bio 160 (clark). However i feel her lectures are simplified and her slides could use more detail as her test are harder and do not quite reflect her lecture. Also the book is horrible and does not provide clarity. Her lab also lacks structure and can be confusing at times.
I hated, HATED Biology before I took this class. Lora changed that! Even though I didn't understand most of it in the beginning, her love for biology kept it interesting. She tries to incorporate different learning styles and encourages you to find what way you learn best. Honestly, if you put in the work and study you can pass this class!
Definitely do not recommend. Lectures were scattered and her explanations made the concepts harder to understand. I used the book to teach myself everything, but it wasn't required for class. Lab was basic. No real homework. Tests were hard and badly written, but she works with you if you challenge a question. Nice person. Not a good teacher.
Lora has a teaching style that is both engaging and challenging. Prepare for weekly lab quizzes in lab and lecture quizzes online, no lab final. Three exams and a comprehensive final make up most of your grade. She is there for you and meets with each student after each exam about their progress. The A is earned through her objective sheets!
She was very invested in conveying all the themes and content so everyone in class could understand. She was frequently touching bases with us and asking questions to be clear we were all following along during lecture. After the first exam she helped each of us plan for success for the rest of the term, 1st exam was tough!!!!
LORA IS AMAZING, HILARIOUS AND FUN. TAKE HER. She stresses how important understanding bio is for future health occ courses and grades you respectfully if you show up and participate. Utilize D2L quizes, hw, lecture notes. Ask her any questions and show up to lecture for real, gives free points all day long. She is great at interpreting the text.
Lora is awesome! Her lectures can be a little unorganized but she gives great feedback and you can tell she really wants her students to succeed. She is really engaging and you can tell she is very passionate about biology!
Weird teacher but in a cool way Not very organized with labeling her homework, quizzes Quizzes online and unlimited retakes Grades 5 out of 13 homework Is there to help you learn IF YOU NEED HELP, ASK HER Every point matters, don't skip class and do your best Don't be fooled by the 100 level, its like a 200 level class
Such a great professor! She tells you exactly what to study for the exams, and is really great about addressing your questions. She also tells you what kind of stuff you'll see again I A&P and Micro if you continue through those classes!
This is tough class but Lora was awesome! Her analogies and examples in class have stuck in my head and are very useful for future classes. I learned a LOT. Definitely not an easy A, be prepared to do a lot of reading and put in some extra effort. She also drops your lowest test and quiz score which is nice while you figure out her teaching style.
Lora is a DELIGHT. Very genuine, hilarious stories (scuba diving w sea urchins...) She desires for her students to do well. Can be a bit zany and occasionally scattered but owns it. Has amazing grading system (3 midterms but drops lowest, also unlimited retakes for online quizzes). Midterms are harder than online quizzes but LOVED her class!!
One of my favorite professors. She's extremely clear about what she wants you to know and will be tested on. Her study guides for tests are gone over in class and she answers any questions you have. People would ask her questions about things in the text book and she would shrug and say "you don't need to know that". Side note I'd marry her forsure
There are about 10 homeworks to do, you can turn-in up to 7 but she will count only 5. There are about 10 quizzes online, many in class assignments throughout the course that are very useful for test studying material purposes. Her study guides are the best. Complete them and you will get a B. Study extra on top of that and you will get an A.
Took her class based on these reviews, but I'm kind of underwhelmed. She's nice, but she is all over the place & esp for how long class was, I expected we'd go over more material than what we actually did. Tests are worded poorly; objectives don't help much; and the book doesn't describe terms she talks about. Class time wasn't properly used, imho.
I was hesitant at first on my judgement of Lora but turns out she is really cool and nice. Don't give up. She will work with you if you are struggling which is rare at this school.
I loved taking Loras class. She is so laid back as a person and it transfers into her teaching style. Her notes in class were helpful although the lectures themselves were not inclusive of all the material you were expected to know for the exams. That being said, I had to do a lot of self-teaching but she was very helpful and clear with questions.
Had an exceptional experience in Lora's class. She is very good at explaining things (and re-explaining) so that students can understand, regularly checks in to make sure students are following, and emphasizes information that will be in exam questions. Beware: she does not tolerate class disruption or cross-talk during lecture.
If you are going to take her class online, DON'T. She only answers emails on certain days. Lectures are vague. Her exams are worded weird and she makes everything extremely difficult to understand. Also posts homework and chapters due mid week, with no extension to turn them in. Simply because she got busy or forgot. Horrible teacher! Avoid!!!!
This class was a lot of work but the work was relevant to learning the material. The lectures were actually interesting and not just reading from a power point. Homework is given and turned in during class so it's hard to miss days. There was one day I missed class but she allowed me to email her the homework so I didn't lose any points.
Lora is down to earth, reasonable, and sympathetic. She is great at explaining things in different ways. She was available for questions via email and office hours. Her lecture style are fun and the info is practical. I think she could master her online class technology a little better. The in-class activities were tedious for her at times.
Lora is very funny and a great teacher. Things were a little bumpy at times bc of everything being thrust into online teaching bc of COVID, but she did her best! Learned a lot and she was always helpful, good at clarifying, and wants her students to succeed. This stuff is hard but the structure of the class was nice and made it manageable.
Prepare to work because the class is difficult. She is an amazing teacher. Her style of teaching is also amazing. I would also marry her.
Lora is an amaaaazing professor. She is really understanding. If you need extra time for an assignment, just give her an email in advance and she will be accommodating. Every test and quiz is open book and you get two chances to take the exams and she will average the scores. Half the overall grade is easy 100% assignments. HIGHLY recommend.
Midterm exams and final are challenging but she prepares you for A&P and Micro Biology, she sets a solid foundation for you to succeed not just in her class but when you move up in Bio. Her grading is straight forward and you can retake quizzes/assignments for higher points. Take her if you want to be prepared for more challenging course work ahead
Took online during COVID and had no problems. Take this class with Lora, you won't regret it!! I wish I could have her for every science course!!
Seriously I could not recommend this professor enough!! She is so accommodating, but you need to reach out with time and let her know of anything going on. Not only wants you to succeed and create a solid foundation for A&P, but she also will help you get to what grade you are aiming for. She lets you know of what you need to retake or improve on.
Lora was a fantastic professor. She has pre-recorded lecture videos and the online zoom lecture was an open forum for any questions you have on the material. She is very responsive to emails and will spend time to go over anything you have questions on. As long as you do the weekly learning objective guide each week, you are set for the tests.
She is engaging, humorous, and can teach subjects in a real world way that make it easier to understand. I would 10 out of 10 take any of her classes again. Be prepared to learn and understand the material. Not just memorize. I found that I was so better prepared for my higher level classes because of Lora.
Extremely difficult tests. Lora will not respond to emails in a timely manner if you need help.
Lora is an amazing teacher. You can tell she cares about her students as students and doesn't penalize for your mistakes. You can retake quizzes for full credit, quizzes are more like study tool to help prep for exams. Her exams are challenging but she sets you up well with her learning objectives and her lectures. Highly recommend!
Lora is so great! I really enjoyed her class and learned a lot. She truly cares about her students success and wanting them to learn good study habits for future classes. Her tests are really hard but she gives a lot of extra credit to help buffer your grade. I learned so much with her! She's one of the best teachers so far
Lora is a great professor. Would definitely take again. Her class is a bit time consuming because she gives a lot of homework but it definitely helps you learn.
Not the easiest class, but absolutely worth it. Set up more or less in universal design and very good at working with accommodations (only needed to use a couple because the course is designed so well) the study skills assignments are incredible and should be taught to every incoming student!
I think everyone should take Cell Bio with Lora, she's an absolute sweetheart and the work is doable. If you stay on track you can definitely pass the class! I can't recommend her enough, she's kind and is always willing to help out when you're stuck. :)
The one class you need is the one they make so difficult. Lora would rather burn the school down than let you leave 5 min early. For the quiz, she words it in her own language, so you can understand the material and it won't matter. You do 6 hours of videos online and 5 quizzes. And In person, it's another 6 hours!!!!! of wasted time. real Burn-out
If you can go to Cascade for Bio 112, do it, Lora is caring and inspirational and wants you to do your best, be sure to show up to lab as the only required attendance as she has amazing lectures online and a In class study session instead od lecture in person, amazing learning environment and you learn so much asking questions with the class.
LOVED this class! Lora gives a lot of work and exams are difficult (open book) but if you do everything and *stay on pace*, you'll do well. So many points available, lots of opportunity to get a solid grade. In-person lecture is a forum for questions about the recorded lectures/material, Lora will take time to thoroughly explain concepts with care.
Lora was a great teacher for Biology 112. I took the hybrid version, so we watched lectures at home and came to class prepared with questions about the material. All tests, homework quizzes, pre-labs are online/open book and you can retake them until the end of the term to improve your grade. One test a week not open book. Would HIGHLY reccommend!!
Lora is great. All you have to do to get an "A" in her class is follow her instructions. She makes it crystal clear what needs to be done. The rest is up to you.If you are looking to develop your critical thinking skills, as well as study skills Lora is also a solid pick. Her courses are designed to help you actually retain information and learn.
Lora is awesome, really easy to form a relationship with. Her online content was heavy but grading stakes ended up being really fair. Lab was engaging and online exam are extremely difficult but all open note and really curved, easy A.
So sad that Lora only teaches this course only. If you ever get the chance to take her please do she's so caring about her students success. You can retake homework quizzes as much as you like. Work in lab is really bearable and she gives you so much time to get your assignments done you never feel stressed about not being able to turn something in
I was nervous to take this class and I didn't think I would succeed, but Lora did a great job at guiding me and helping me realize I can do well. She's clear on all the criteria, deadlines and what's to be expected. She truly cares for her students success and wants the best for them. She's funny and relatable, I highly recommend taking her class!
Nice teacher! I love how she talks to us.
Lora was amazing. I took her in person lab and lecture, her modules are super helpful and detailed. She wants you to get a A and will give you many opportunities to do so. Lots of group projects and does super good in person lectures that helped me understand the content. For a science course, her class did not stress me out!
Lora genuinely cares about her students. You can tell she loves teaching the material and helping students to learn it. There is a lot of time that needs to be put into the class work, but she is very clear about what is expected. Her tests are hard, but she explains it's so you will know what a 200 level course exams are like.
Lora is a great professor and super fun! The class is asynchronous, so the lectures are online. In-person lectures were mainly used to go over questions that students have about the lecture, but half of the time, we were more confused. This class is test-heavy, but luckily it's open notes. I just wish this class was more organized.
Lora is a very sweet, genuine, and caring person, however I am rating based off her teaching. She knows the material she is teaching, but doesn't explain at a level that is helpful to new learners. There are exam/ quiz questions that are not taught in class. Expect to do lectures on your own (very time consuming). 10/10 person, 6/10 professor.
heavy work load BUT there's lots of opportunities to earn points. quizzes and exams can be retaken and are done at home. you basically have to teach yourself and come to class prepared. overall, she's a good teacher, just be ready to constantly study. she also grades and gets back to emails pretty quick. I would recommend her for Bi112.
It's so great to meet a professor like this. Her lab is great and neat, everything we need is very well prepared and organized. She is also very humorous during the lecture, making me feel comfortable in the class.
Such a gem of a person and an amazing Professor! She's extremely kind, lenient and understanding. The world needs more Professors like her who truly care. I appreciated her goofiness and her real life examples and making the material easier to actually understand. If you are needing to take BI 112, I would hands down recommend taking Lora's class.
this is a hard class in general but she helps sooo much. great at explaining, homework quizzes every module but you can retake them until class is over, open note and 2 tries for every exam and she takes the average, lots of group projects during lecture. she wants you to get an A and if you put in the work, you can. would def take her class again
Lora was amazing! It was clear she wanted you to succeed and gave you lots of chances. Clear expectations and was transparent about what would be on quizzes. Allowed open-note quizzes and exams, and dropped low grades. Would absolutely take her class again!
Professor Lora is a delight. She's always available and cares deeply about her students. Class material is heavy and complex, but she explains concepts so students of every learning style understand. I got an A in the class by taking good notes (exams are open-notes & open-book), asking questions in lecture, and watching cell bio animations online.
This class is extremely difficult. I felt judged by Lora and unsupported. Tests are worded weird. I do not recommend taking a class with her.
I don't recommend taking this class. Lora is very strict and closed minded.
very dense class—too much info jam-packed into too little time. Lora is a caring professor & does everything she can to make the concepts digestible. she is able to teach to many different learning styles. exams are open notes, but notes won't save you if you don't understand the material. participation is key to success.
