She provides almost no help whatsoever. Doesn't return phone calls or emails. Doesn't even keep her office hours she posted. For the most part she leaves the student on their own. Disgracefull!!!
This Prof sucks
Worst Instructor I have had while attending CCSF. Doesnt communicate with students at all. She must be tenured!

There needs to be a scale of Zero to rate this professor. One is way to high. Can you spell Burnout. Avoid this Prof at all costs
I look at this way, if you want very limited contact with your instructor, she is the one for you. She does not return emails or phone calls for that matter. I showed up twice at her office durning the posted office hours, and she wa no show!!!
I don't think she cares if students learn or not!
I'm not sure why the other raters disliked her so much... I wonder if most of them are from the same disgruntled person (have you noticed that many of these were done within the same 2 week period?)
Bad, bad, bad. She's unclear, unorganized, always late, and confusing. It's not that she's demanding, she just can't teach. She's seems to forget that we don't know chemistry yet (it's an intro class!!). Avoid her at all costs! Take Flores instead.
Dr Dang is a sweet teacher and yes she is very smart but she impacts her students with way to much data , the material is overwhelming plus she has "extra handouts" BUT she gives estra credit via homework/quizzes
Dr. Dang is ok...it's tough material...sure, she's a bit on the lax side, but it's better than being a chem-nazi...she gives lots of extra credit, so put your head down and jump in...as far as the "hot" thing goes, she was probably a hottie back
Very poor communication, very poor response.
Dr. Dang is not such a bad teacher actually. It is true that she is unorganized with her lecture but she is very understanding and personable. She explains clearly when you asked her personally. Ask tutors or other chem teachers (e.g. Dr. Hermann) if she is not in her office.
Dr. Dang is one of the poorest teachers I've encountered as a student. It was necessary for me to secure a private tutor in order to learn the material. She is unorganized and unclear in lecture. Without the copious amount of 'extra credit' opportunities, few students would pass. Avoid!
Although a challenging class, I found Dr Dang to be fair and very approachable in person (she's not good at responding to email or calls). Be prepared to work VERY hard and read the chapter before the lectures. Study the handouts. You MUST be a self-starter. This class isn't for wusses. Take McInerny for Lab. Good luck and enjoy your semester!
OH my GOD run away--everything you've heard is true and worse! I received an A in this class, so this isn't sour grapes. I studied 6-8 hours a day, met with a study group for 4 hours on weekends, and THAT is the only reason I aced this miserable class. It's hard enough, but she mixes up names (pantothenic and panthenoic) AWEFUL AWEFUL AWEFUL--F+
All lab classes are about the same. we all use the same lab manual. But with Dang, she gives quizzes out of nowhere. She'll come to class and say "okay we have a quiz, sorry i forgot to tell you last week." out of all the quizzes we took she probably only told us about 3 of them. Quizzes is all you need to worry about, the final is easy. This class
she's unorganize and unclear. If u take her class u need to prepare ur self with the material. u should study the hand outs, cuz her tests are based on that mostly.
She seems to be a very kind and sweet person, but her clarity and organization is seriously lacking. In a class that is notoriously challenging and saturated with detail, the last thing we need as students is a patchwork quilt of tutelage, a piece here and a piece there, expecting it to come together in the end. Be ready to teach yourself OChem.
Dr. Dang is hard to follow, mostly cause she is all over the place with lectures. But she means well and answers questions. The book explains everything really clearly. WARNING: The homework right before the test will mostly be exactly like the test and she doesn't turn it back before the test so it sucks. You don't know if you got the concept or not because you don't get to look at what you got wrong/right. Frustrating. But she is nice.
I love Dr. Dang, she is very helpful and works with you on things you are having trouble with. It doesn't matter that she doesn't hand back homework because it is all in the solutions manual. Her class is diddifult but its Organic Chemistry, it should be.
Dr. Dang is really nice and helpful. Although her lectures sometimes stray and she does not explain things to the layperson (she assumes if you are taking 32 you will be up to speed). I recommend reading the book before class and you will be fine. Does not assign very much homework. Also, the tutoring center in the library had some good tutors.
Her teaching is very bad.
She's the best. very nice, intersting. She gives many extra credits. It's kind of easy to get an A.
Nice person. NOT a clear teacher. Also, 32 does not prepare you for CHEM 101A. Better to take 40 if you are going to take 101A.
Best Prof @ CCSF. Clear and concise, provides ch. handouts and makes her expectations known upfront. Always willing to explain and is avail during office and lab hours for Q&A, or chitchat. Chem is a hard course and anyone whining about their Dr Dang obviously hasnt put in the hard work. Refers to herself as LD/lethal dose, great sense of humor!
Be ready to put in the time to read the chapter and lab BEFORE class, stay for the whole lecture, work the chapter study questions, and you'll hang with the class. Dr Dang really cares about us learning this material, even if it seems to fly by in lecture! I never thought I'd get turned on by this subject, but I'm fascinated by it now.
Dr. Dang was a huge waste of my time. I read every chapter before class and did excellent in the chem 32 lab. She just is NOT a good teacher. Her exams did not properly reflect the lectures and the textbook. Also, if you don't sit in the first couple rows she is very hard to hear.
She seems to know a lot, but is just a bad teacher. Her lectures are all over the place, her handouts are from 1970, her assignments are difficult and hard to prepare for, and she bounces around from topic to topic without any real organization. Nice lady, very intelligent and she cares, but needs to attend some teacher training.
She is the worst instructor I ever had!! She does not teach. I read every chapter but it does not prepare you for her test, only the weekly quizes. The class test score average is usually 50-60 percent. If you are planning to take her class because of a prereq for a medical program, don't take her...she will ruin your GPA
She is super nice and gives out extra credit a lot
She never responds to any of the students e-mails, she doesn't curve any tests and she test for chapters that haven't being covered. really bad teaching.
Dr. Dang is one of the best Prof. at city college. Her courses are tough & require A LOT of study time, student who don't do well aren't prepared. She really cares, if you don't understand something ask in class or office hours, she'll take the time. She really cares about her students, and writes great reccomendations! She got me into Grad School!
please keep away from her class. it is miserable and depressing. she briefly goes over topics, but gives really hard exams.
not recommended...she is nice, but nice does not equal quality teaching. lectures are not easy to understand and exams are pretty hard. if you do take her class, make sure you are not taking anything else and get ready.
The worst chemistry teacher ever. Diverts a lot about favorite colors or how she met her husband! Teaches the scents of fruits and flowers. Does not explain the fundamental concepts of basic chemical principles or if she does it isn't very clear. Students resort to rote memory. Her website is a waste of time. Avoid her class like the flu.
Unfortunately, I would have to agree with most of the negative comments on here. She is really nice but a bad teacher. OChem is not a class that you can teach yourself. You need a strong professor that can guide you through. Many students drop her class after the first exam. I wish I did. I would strongly suggest to avoid her or audit a class
She's terrible.
Burnout.
Took her 2 yrs. ago. I had to read the chapters from beginning to end and take my own notes to understand the material. Good in lab, but dull lectures. Didn't learn much in lecture.
She is a great person and a good teacher. Sometimes, she does seem a bit scattered but if we we're prepared we would do well on the tests. Her tests are incredibly hard but they are not impossible if one studies thoroughly. She is always available for questions and she tries to be as accomodating as possible. I would recommend her.
You will learn in this class but it is mostly up to you. I think the most frustrating thing are the tests. The questions are, according to me, purposely tricky so if you don't pay attention you might get it wrong just because she wanted to trick you.Tests are not a good reflection of what the student knows.
Dr. Dang is not as bad as everyone thinks she is. I got an A in her chem class but I had to work for it. Be sure to read each chapter thoroughly. Weekly quizzes. She's generous with extra credit. She hands out chapter notes which highlight main points. This class is A LOT of work, but it pays off in the end.
Dang's lectures are pretty useless unless the students read the covered chapter ahead of time. Reading ahead, which is expected, helps one put together the puzzle pieces of the lectures. She's smart, but has trouble communicating it in lectures. One CAN do well in her class but it requires a lot of studying. It is, after all, a science class.
She's very nice. More importantly: she's a terrible teacher. She's knowledgeable, but her lack of basic teaching skills meant that I learned everything from the book - her lectures left me MORE confused than before I went in them. Crams in too much material too fast. The chem prof running my lab was shocked at how fast she was running the class.
reading the material before class is always the best way to learn anything in school..... the tests were tricky in a way that made you think, slightly beyond the obvious answer. She loves the material and made it fun. Her sytle worked well for me, I got an A. chem 32
Dang isn't as hard as people say she is. I took her for Chem 32 with NO EXPERIENCE in chemistry at all and got an A in her class. She gives out her own personal outlines for you (Read these, not the book so much!) and gives tons of extra credit near the end of the class. So things to do: Homework, read the outlines, study for the quizes!
DONT TAKE THIS TEACHER UNLESS YOU *HAVE* TO! Dang is a really nice person, but it is clear that she's bored with this class. This is an extremely difficult class no matter who you take, but she lectures as if she's explaining the material to herself. Lots of extra credit at the end. Work hard & do extra credit a B or C is possible. Take McInerney
She's FANTASTIC! always gives a full outline of what you are learning. around 2 chapters a week. coveres almost the whole textbook. her exams are extremely tough so you need to study. i literally failed two of her exams and her final is the hardest, i still passed with a B in the class. shes really helpful when you talk to her in her office.
Dr. Dang is not that difficult if you read the book which is very helpful. The overall standard was lower. For example, 85% was an A, 75% was a B...etc The first test was very easy, but the after ones were harder. The final was 10 times harder than the tests, but she gave out a lot extra credits. I got 94% even though I never liked Chem.
Dr. Dang loves Chem, which comes through at all times. She isn't that into teaching at the appropriate level, which is the problem. Instead of treating Chem 32 as the chem survey class it is, she makes it much, much harder and more in depth that is appropriate. She's a lovely, lovely person, and a supportive teacher if you ask for help.
She gives lots of extra credit make sure u do all labs and assignments you'll pass
Very good teacher, but you got to read textbook because Dr. Dang sometimes goes off topic on her lectures. However, it is easy to pass if you complite all labs and have at least a slight idea about chemestry.
Dr. Dang isn't that great of a teacher. Her lectures are rather boring, especially towards the end. She makes you do about 70 homework problems a chapter. Her tests have absolutely NOTHING to do with lecture. She is a very sweet person but it doesn't reflect in her teaching style
disorganized, wrong answer key for homeworks or pre test, unclear with lecture.Dont take her class ,Chem is already difficult she is no help-always off topic..terrible teacher, she needs to retired already!
if there is any way to take the class with other teacher do that. Even the smartest people in my class sometimes felt depressed and frustrated with the way she organized the information. Her notes are incomprehensible, you never know what to expect, syllabus is altered during the semester, a total mess. But she's a good person as many here mentione
I took this teacher because her grading scale was a lot lower than normal. Ex: 75% is a B, 85%+ is an A. you must read the chapter b4 lecture. Also read chpt 1 b4 u start the class, she starts semester at chpt 2 and expects u to already knw chpt 1. just an FYI! I passed thanks to all of her xtra credit
She's awesome instructor. I <3 <3 <3 her teaching. She 's also very fair in grading and very approachable if you have any questions. The material is hard and she can be a little disorganized, but all in all it's very interesting class.
I struggled in the beginning because I put too much emphasis on book material. Later I found that you should browse the chapter prior to class,do all of the hw only looking at her lecture notes, and re-write her lecture notes b4 exams. It instantly got me up from a C to an A. She's super helpful, and runs a fun lab!
If you want to attend a class where a professor goes on ranting about her husband and grades you on material that you yourself have to break your neck for, then this class is for you. Otherwise quit work and find a professor that will teach you on an intermediate level not a chem matician level.
Don't take her class. She is the worst chem teacher at City College. I dropped her class before the deadline, somehow she messed up my grade and gave me an "F". I complained with proof that I dropped the class. He finally let me retake next the following semester. Her lecture was okay but not too helpful.
This is the thing. She doesnt lecture very well because sometimes she is uninterested herself. But she will tell you what is important to listen to, and what she will include in the tests! She also gives out SO much extra credit, you should be able to get an A if you work your butt off like I did. you'll be okay if you use tutoring and office hours
Several times I have done the homework problems that she assigned and found errors in the answer keys WHICH is very frustrating because you are striving to learn these concepts and need solid guidelines. Doesn't teach out of book, teaches according to her own rules. SO ANNOYING. & tests have NOTHING to do with lecture.
350 words is not enough to describe what a completely terrible, unhelpful professor Dr. Dang is. She is disorganized and shows up late and unprepared for lab almost every day. She requires you do EVERY SINGLE HW PROBLEM IN EVERY CHAPTER = equiv HW for a 12 unit class. She gives no feedback and teaches OCHEM with a PPT. Have fun TEACHING YOURSELF.
Chem 32 should not have be as disorganized and overwhelming as she made it ( I have taken Chem 40 and thought it was more manageable). That being said, the way to pass is read BEFORE class, ask a lot of questions and make sure you are on the same page as her. If you dont, you will fail miserably.
pros:she have a great person personality, helpful, patient, accept late hw.Cons:use her standard to expect or teach student. Seldom use blackboard to explain. Tips: give her some suggestion on how to teach. She wants to help, but she doesn't know how. After we complain, she did change, so we got pass grade on her test.Study, prepare b4 class
She's a really sweet professor but I'm not a huge oral learner I'm more hands on. So I'll read the book, think I understand but when I go to Lecture I can't seem to follow/keep up with what she's saying. Lab is great, she's really helpful and lets you be extremely hands on. Lecture is where I'm struggling. I suggest reading the book + other sources
She is helpful if you talk to her in person. She is intimidating, but a sweet person. She is willing to help. Tough class She goes thru material quickly. I have to emphasize READ THE BOOK.Ask her questions.Go to tutoring if possible.I felt like I am always catching up.If I was a ft student,I would put more time reading.
She is very knowledgeable in the field of Chemistry but she does not know how to teach it. Because she understands it so well she lectures like everyone understands. You won't get much out of the lectures, reading is a must. Overall this class was very disorganized, its a struggle for everyone to keep up.
I had to teach myself most of the material because her lectures are not clear for beginner chem students. Most of the problemshomework have teacher errors and it makes it difficult to follow when studying the wrong answers. She's nice but short when you need one on one time with her. Expect to teach yourself online with chem you tubes and tutoring
Don't take this class if you are not expert with math. She has about 50 students in her class. she never explained well.
she is really nice and funny. she also gives huge amount of extra credit. if u listen to her on class carefully, you will absolutely get an A. Even tho sometimes I feel sleepy in class, but i can catch up quickly. She is really helpful and super nice!!!!!
Dr. Dang made me love Organic Chemistry. Lecture is interesting and very structured. I still use her notes for Biochemistry now. She is incredibly nice and wants her students to succeed. The exams are VERY tough, but she helps you prep for them. Many extra credit opportunities. If you are a dedicated student, you should have no problems at all.
She's a great teacher ! The class is hard but she makes it interesting. The test are pretty hard if you don't study and attend the lecture. She doesn't take attendance but there is a lot to learn and I would not recommend missing class. I would recommend her !
extremely unorganized! lectures are hard to follow, expect us to know the materials, doesn't go into details, does not follow the text book, her chapter notes are somewhat helpful, does not use the book, quizzes every week, test reviews are somewhat helpful, but always gives wrong answer key! never clear on due dates! lots of extra credit.
I felt like between assigning all the problems in every single chapter as homework, the lack of organization and the absurdly difficult quizzes and test that I should hate Dr. Dang... but I actually love her. She is a total character and an incredibly sweet and intelligent person. The bottom line with her class is keep your head down & stick it out
1) Do the book problems as needed copy the rest from the solution manual 2) DO EVERY SINGLE EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY SHE OFFERS (crucial) 3) All the answers to her handout assignments are online 4) Go to lecture and PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT SHE EMPHASIZES (tests/quizzes) 5) Review her chapter notes to find exceptions, extra things she adds/not in book
Prof. Dang is very caring, and fair. You have to read the chapters before class, the subject is hard but she makes it easy. She gives so much extra credit that It is hard not to get an A on this class. In addition, exams are similar to homework questions. I am grateful for the great chemistry foundation this class gave me. She rocks!
I got to say that this teacher is horrible. Although she is nice and has a great personality, the way she teaches is so tough. Does she curve grades at the end of the semester?
Too be fair, Chem 32 is just a hard class in general. I personally struggled during her lectures because of my lack of history with chemistry. Reply on other students, go to LAC center for free tutor help. Read the textbook. Enjoy the lab. Turn every assignment on time. She's such a nice lady but not my favorite teacher.
The fact that I'm seating in her class right now, and writing this review because she is very confusing and unorganized, should tell you enough about her. (I got an A on the first Ochem)
Highly not recommend. Probably the worst prof.
Love Dr. Dang! This is not an easy course but she is helpful, funny and down to earth. I enjoyed having her for lecture and lab. She gives a lot of extra credit opportunities and really wants you to succeed in this class. I got a B and I felt that was what I earned.
I want to write a more positive review of Dr Dang, but I also want to be doing a lot better than I am in her class. Lectures dont help you understand the material. Tests are phenomenally difficult. If it wasnt for massive amounts of extra credit, id be failing. She makes a lot of mistakes. Count on an extra 5-10 points on every test due 2 mistake
Prof. Dang is Amazing! She gives a lot of extra credits. You obviously need to do your part because the class is hard. She's very helpful so I recommend her.
Lecture is mind bogglingly confusing. provided notes don't follow the book and do little to explain the content. Tests are extremely difficult with the class averaging a failing grade according to canvas. Lots of extra credit, otherwise everyone would be failing. Dang has trouble relating to how students learn. get ready to teach yourself!
Dr. Dang seems like a nice person and seems to love chemistry. In teaching, however, she breezes through and explains concepts as if she's speaking to someone who's already taken the course. Her provided notes are confusing and hardly coincide with the textbook. You have to decode the material outside class lol. I had no choice but to drop.
Tests for this class are incredibly difficult. While other professors will tell you that they won't create questions on exams to trick you, prof Dang is the opposite. Every question has a trick. Lecture is impossible to follow which means you are essentially teaching yourself some pretty tricky material.
Dr Dang gives tons and tons of extra credit opportunity. This is because her tests are designed so that the majority of students will get a C. If she didn't give so much extra credit, I think a lot of people would be failing. While she is very nice and very accessible, she wasn' very helpful. She suggested I retake the class when I complained.
Doctor Dang gives a ton of free extra credit. She also provides you with sample tests that were actually real tests from the previous semesters to study off of. If you study them, you will do very well on the exams. Theres no reason anyone should get lower than a B. Easy A if you turn in all your assignments, pay attention, and go to class.
A TON of work on canvas and hand-in. General Chem, Organic Chem and Biochem. An A is 85. Atoms, moles, Avogadro's number, gas laws, solution concentrations, molarity, dilutions, chemical reactions, stoichiometry, hydrocarbons, biochemistry, fats, carbs, proteins, glycolysis and krebs cycle. Difficult exams. Final takes 2 days. Lab practical 1 day.
Dr. Dang can be pretty boring during lecture, but is very helpful whenever questions are asked. Most of her test questions were in notes she prints and gives you and you don't necessarily have to open the book at all. She offers a lot of extra credit points and the final exam is split into 2 days. She gives a cheat sheet on each test for you.
I really liked her. Lots of assignments and really hard test (never got higher than a c) but also lots of extra credit. Yes I did need to study A LOT outside of class and attended tutoring session about 4 hours a week but the subject is hard so I don't know what else folks expect. She's very sweet and you can tell she really loves the subject.
INCOMPREHENSIBLE in lecture, I cried almost after every class. Learned everything by reading book, tutors, and YT. Dang is a caring/approachable person, but she is NOT skilled for beginners. EXTREMELY FAST PACED, lots of homework. DO EVERY SINGLE EXTRA CREDIT and you will pass. Don't expect to be guided. doable if you work HARD. best at ccsf tho
Difficult class in general. She talks really fast so it can be hard to keep up. The textbook is helpful. Tutoring is a must. Tests are multiple choice. Sometimes she curves them. She offers extra credit and gives a lot of assignments which help raise your grade and also help study. I would not recommend missing lectures.
(Spring'21) I know the class wasn't made for distance learning b/ she made no attempt to make it work online You learn EVERYTHING from the book her lectures add nothing important, NO STUDYGUIDES you're left wondering what'll be on the test. SHE CHANGES HER MIND ON GRADING ALL THE TIME. maybe shes not so bad in person but this was awful
Dr. Dangs style of teaching wasnt for me, and I had to learn material through the textbook or videos. She lectures as if she is speaking to someone who has took the course already. We had quizzes, tests and labs. Tests are very difficult. She also lectures quickly, and its hard to keep up with her. She also doesnt have the best grammer in email
Did not make her class remote friendly. Uses prerecorded lectures for each chapter and u basically have to learn on your own. Quizzes are nothing like her lectures. For labs, she uses other professors videos and did not put any effort into teaching herself. No communication with her students, cancels class last mins, takes long to respond to emails.
Lecturing skills are poor, as she cannot convey the rudiments, always speaking as if she's having a long, boring conversation with you that is so unimportant. I began relying on the textbook exclusively. Exams had tricky questions which did not seem to serve a purpose beyond being tricky, as they did not connect with anything special from lecture.
