Very easy to get in touch with and always around for office hours.
Horrible teacher, one of the hardest I have ever had to work with. Her slides are terribly organized, she has an annoyingly weird personality. She will rip your paper to pieces and talks about manatees every freaking day. She is the kind of hippie and ****es about everything but never does anything about it. Not recommended at all.
Lorelie is a GREAT lab TA. She is available, well informed, and very willing to help.
Great professor with a refreshing personality. Study guide for this class is very VERY similar to her tests. Even though genetics is more her specialty, still informed about ecology. I just wish her slides had more than just pics & a few words, which would have made studying easier when looking up things.
oh well.I was actually hoping for a more enthusiastic lecture about Ecology. Her daily reading questions, short assingments, and tests were easy-helpful.Needs to explain/go over the readings though, otherwise what's the point? The most important assingment of the semester is the research paper!Put your high efforts on this paper, it's worth 100 points.
I love ecology but wasn't totally enthused with this class. Very negative about issues discussed (we know the world is in trouble, but negative about EVERY part of it), and the readings are only used for in class quizzes that are open note (therefore, not necessary that you read them). Powerpoints were great though, very interesting!
weird personality, kind of rants on about manatees every lecture or something else that doesnt pertain to the lecture. come to class the 2 classes prior to the exam, will tell u 95% of what to expect on the exam. read the slides, never used the book.
she has a quirky personality which can be funny sometimes, but overall its pretty annoying. tests arent too bad as all the information needed is on the slides...one thing that really bothered me was that she assigns a term paper in which the draft is almost worth as much as the final product. that didnt make much sense to me
BEST TEACHER EVER! She is very helpful for exams and papers. The exam questions are given prior (ALOT OF INFO) but most of the answers are found in outside sources not in the slides. I was stuck on my paper and she helped me pick the topic and gave me ALL my sources.
The other reviews are wrong! Excellent teacher, outgoing and relaxed. Study the power points and you will do fine on the tests. There are many other activities throughout the semester to help improve your grade if you bomb the tests. One of the best Professors at Mason, it's too bad more are not like her!
Teacher is great no textbook required! Class is easy as long as you take the time to go through her review sheets and write an excellent term paper. Oh yeah that term paper 2500 words, only bad thing about the class.
Professor Crerar is so nice and she's pretty easy as long as you go to class. Material is straight from the lecture. She actually told us what definitions were on the exam that we needed to know. Yes, she goes on about manatees a lot, but it's what her research is, it's what she knows, give her a break. Great professor, take her if you can.
307 during the year is a pain, if you can take it over the summer with her, thats your best bet. Great teacher. Used to teach public school, so is a compliment to her teaching style and breaking things down. She quirks out once in a while but its funny and keeps you awake. Always willing to help.
Had her over the summer made learning animal biology fun, really student oriented. Moved test dates twice when students asked definitely recommend taking her if she teaches animal again
I was never interested in taking ecology, but Crerar made it fun. Summer session made it easier with her "newly tried" multip test ques w/ a few short answers/ calc. Crerar was absolutely nice and understanding. She brought sweet snacks during finals. Tests are easy as long as the power points are studied. Daily iclicker usage w/ open notes.
very nice and helpful teacher if u take the time and talk to her and ask questions. exams come STRAIGHT from the study guides (multiple choice/short answers) but its like 12 pgs and only 4 end up on the exam so study everything and its all in the powerpoint! the paper is worth 2 exam grades so put effort into sometime u want to do research on!
She is by far one of the best teacher at Mason!! Love her!!! Easy to get along and very caring about her students. She doesn't use text books and she makes it easy to understand what she teaches! Take her class!! Add to the collection of great teachers in your journey at Mason. I will say "A MUST HAVE"!!!! YOU WILL LOVE HER CLASS!!
Since Summer 2011 is the last semester that BIOL 307 Ecology will be taught in mason, better take her class in C session now. Just do it! She does not use textbooks, she even gives hints before the exams. All of her TA are easy on grading. The research paper is the only thing requires some efforts.
One of the best professors at Mason!! She will take her time & help you out, which is amazing. She brings cupcakes & stuff on exam days..shes such a sweetheart! The class is easy & straightforward, gives out some extra credit too..the research paper is the only hassle but she will help you out! TAKE HER
honestly she is real cool and not a bad teacher over all but the assignments for the global task force are SO UNCLEAR!!! there is not one person that iv talked to in the class that has any idea what is going on with the main project. my only recommendation is to bug her until you understand all the assignments and the requirements
she is very helpful when you ask questions. and her test were easy if you study. make sure to come to class cause they are helpful . the essay in this class was unclear at the beginning
She's not helpful, definitely not approachable. I don't know why she's mean to me. Maybe it's not her year idk...whatever. Recitation sucks! She's awkward.
She is extremely unapproachable and very, very rude to students. It is possible to do well in her class, but not worth it at all. Take someone else if possible for recitation.
she is one of the best professor i ever had in my whole life..... i truly love her.... she cares so much as the students and she will do anything to help the students to do well.
Best lab ever, I enjoyed a lot. I also learned a lot from Dr. Crerar. She is fun, helpful and really nice to student. Recommend for everyone.
Tons of information in a 5-week summer course, but it was well-orchestrated. Dr. Crerar gives an entertaining lecture, and points out the information that's really critical for each exam. Plenty of extra-credit opportunities built into exams.
She is very helpful & very entertaining. I loved her class. She posts all of her lectures online, gives out study guides, & if you complete it ahead of time, she checks the answers for you. Gives bonus questions on exams. On papers, if you make the corrections she marks, you will get an A. Seriously, you have to WORK to FAIL her class. Very easy.
While she is knowledgeable and passionate about the material she gives the bare minimum of information regarding assignments. She is extremely rude to the students and refers the them as "idiots" repeatedly throughout the class period. The tests are cake - just memorize the study guides but what a wate of time and money.
Lover her! She's very nice, fair, and very helpful. If you're worried about grades and go to her office hours she will talk to you, answer all of your questions and will tell you not to worry. The project sucked for me personally because I had lazy people in my group and I had to do everything alone. Other than that, great class and great prof!
She can be a bit rude to students, i-clickers are unannounced and a part of your grade, but her exams are pretty darn easy (if you study a bit). The course itself is a TON of work, but it's honestly a lot of busy work. I put little effort into the course and I'm getting a C+
At first I thought she was a little rude but later I figured it was her personality to be a little saucy. Her exams are easy! Study the practice questions and the specific study cases in the power points (she likes to trick people sometimes)! I overall enjoyed the material learned in the course. It was very interesting for me.
Go to class. The iClickers are mandatory. She gives you all the hints for the tests. The thing that makes this class hard is the Recitation and Lab. Take it seriously.
Crerar is passionate about the subject which really makes you want to learn. Provides a study guide for both exams. Bonus points for attendance. The group project can be somewhat annoying - depending on the people you work with. Overall, one of the easiest BIOL classes I have taken at Mason - while actually learning something!
Actually really fun lectures if you listen. She's actually very witty and funny. Class is definitely mandatory to do well in the class. Iclickers are important but she also gives away clues and info for her tests during class!
Dr. Crerar is a great lecture professor. She made the class interesting and worth going to, which is often times a struggle for me. Iclickers count for 10% of your grade. GO TO CLASS. The exams were easy and she gave hints on what would be on it. Studied the day before each exam and never got below an A. I took her over summer. Not bad at all.
She's a tough but fair teacher. The lectures are interesting and tests are straight from the study guides. The huge project sucked, but she is very willing to help you with it. I really liked her and would take her again for another class.
Quizzes are test with iclicker and usually easy. Quizzes seem to be there to benefit attendance. Very animated, interesting lectures. Gives long review sheets, but the test is based on them. If you understand the review, you will understand the test. Always available for questions. Save your money on the textbook. It is not needed.
I don't enjoy being in her lecture she goes off topic way too easy and she is very unhelpful to minority. NOT COOL. This class is ridiculously time consuming.
Crerar is an amazing professor. Great lecturer and extremely friendly. She fully believes in transparency and will help you get an A if you go to her for help. You have to go to class, she tells you what will be on the tests and often gives test questions in the iclicker quizzes. Absolutely love her, would take for every class if I could.
This class has a big group project that is not very fun. But Dr. Crerar is a wonderful professor! She is smart and knows tons of extras that make this class worth it! She has the ability to make students care about ecological threats to the world and if you're interested in ecology, biology, or environmental science, take a class from Dr. Crerar!
She is hilarious. Lecture is not mandatory but you are expected because of iclicker quizzes. She would tell you what is on the test if you pay attention in class.
She flips through slides without much explanation and cracks jokes. The class is disorganized. Quiz grades are not posted. She doesn't respond to emails in full sentences and routinely overlooks questions. If you want to learn, don't take this class with her.
No textbook necessary. Print the slides and follow along with her lectures. She makes jokes and keeps it interesting. Not a major amount of studying is needed later if you pay attention when she's talking about it the first time. And make sure you go to class for the iClickers, they aren't hard and free points. Very easy to learn and do well.
She's a good teacher, but she is a bit nicer to non-minority students. She can get a bit crazy in class so get ready for that but it's usually amusing. Go to the lectures, don't get into the habit of skipping, do the iClickers, study a day or two before the exam, use her study guides. If I didn't skip her class more often I could have made an A.
She is a free spirit with a heart of gold. I absolutely adore this woman. She doesn't like you to have your laptop open, but I type faster than I write, so I'd go through the slides with her and type in my notes. I wasn't on fb. She goes through the slides quickly, so take good notes. And go to class. And study. She'll help you wherever she can.
LOVE HER! TAKE HER! ver knowledgeable in ecology area. She's so chilled and funny. exams are exactly the same as the study guide. JUST TAKE HER GUYS!
I took her for both 377 and 308 and I LOVED HER!!! she's a very special person. In the beginning I thought she was so rude and I hated her, but after talking to her and turning more things and getting great feed back, I changed my mind about her. She's not an easy A but it is definitely doable. good luck!
Hands down of the best professor at GMU. I just adore Dr. Crerar! I took her for 377 and immediately fell in love with her way of teaching. If only she taught more biology electives, I would take her for every class. She makes lecture so much fun and exciting and her energy is amazing!!!
Dr. Crerar is honestly insane and extraordinarily rude. I feel scared to ask her for anything because she makes her students feel inadequate and she is not capable of giving feedback without being sarcastic. Having said that, I learned a lot in her class. I find her personality arrogant & childish, but she is still somewhat entertaining.
Her exams are exactly like the study guide. Memorize it and u will do well. She grades quiet harshly on her papers. She is not very understanding. She screams on top of her lungs at students. The best about the class were the videos. Seriously avoid her if possible.
I thought she was annoying and just generally unpleasant. Wish there was someone else to take 377 with. She gave me a 50% on something because I was one source under the requirement (literally nothing else wrong with the assignment... just missing one source).
Very unhelpful and rude. She is very disorganized and literally will fail you for not citing a source correctly. She gives terrible feedback, but will tear your head off (figuratively) if you send her drafts of your papers before the due date and don't revise them with her terrible advice.
She is one of the worst professors I have had. Not helpful at all and very, very rude. She teaches bio, but focuses more in English and will fail you for little grammar mistakes. If there is another option, DO NOT TAKE HER. You have been warned.
Overall, I didn't really enjoy the lectures because I could get what I need to know at home. Attendance is required for videos and special presentations though. There are about 3-4 papers throughout the semester and the rest of the grade is made up of exams. For the exams, completely fill out and go over the study guide and you will get an A.
She is pretty rude and not helpful at all. There's really no point in going to class, but she requires attendance some days to watch videos. Writing assignments are not explained clearly and then a lot of points are taken off for small mistakes.
She has a sense of humor at the expense of the students. Maybe an acquired taste? Her expectations are not clear, so ask specific questions about the assignments even if they seem dumb. She focuses on format mostly. Content is important, but not primary. I would recommend avoiding this person if you want to learn science stuff.
Gives lecture-based quizzes at the start of each lecture, tests are extremely easy and the expectations are crystal clear. Show up to class, read the powerpoints, study for 3 hours per test and you'll pass with an easy A.
Dr. Crerar is such a good professor. She wants you to do well on your exams so she prepares you really well for them. There are 20 quizzes that you turn in as homework after each lecture is over. She gives good examples in lecture and is one of the best lecturers I've had. There are 3 exams and a final.
Dr. Crerar is a great professor. As long as you study hard for the exams, you will get an A. She gives homework every class but it is very easy to do. The lab is a but tedious because there's a paper but that's what makes it a five credit class. Print out PowerPoints and come to class, study hard, and you'll do fine.
I love Dr. Crerar. I can listen to her lecture all day. She's hilarious! She has fun ways of memorizing certain definitions. If you get the chance, go talk to her personally. If she sees that you're trying, she'll definitely make the effort to see that you succeed. Study the pp slides, do the quizzes, review the study guide & you'll get an A!
Take this class with her and you should get an A if you're a decent student!! She gets you to go to class by having in class quizzes but she gives the answers to the in-class quizzes basically so its free points. Her personality is strange and moody at times but nonetheless a great professor! Concepts for the class aren't difficult. Go to LA review
I LOVE Dr. Crerar! Her lectures are so funny and interesting. She points out things you need to know for the exam during lectures so make sure you attend every class (also lecture quizzes almost every class). I didn't use textbook and studied solely off of her power points. There are many things to memorize but concepts are not too difficult.
Exams are straight off of her powerpoints and she tells you what to study. Textbook not really needed. Lecture quizzes are free points basically. She's funny and makes her lectures bearable. 3 exams and one final.
Dr. Crerar is such a good lecturer. I would always go to class and just listen and take minimal notes on her daily quizzes. If you pay attention in class and study the quizzes for the exams it is an easy A. The only thing that really takes effort in this class is some of the math and term memorization needed for the exams. I highly recommend her!
Dr. Crerar is super funny and her lectures are very informative. She never reads directly off the slides. Study her powerpoint slides, go over the study guide and the in-class quizzes and you should 100% be able to get an A. The only overly difficult part to this class is the Lab. It's very tedious and the final paper is a LARGE chunk of your grade
Theres a quiz basically every class and they arent hard but if you dont go to class she wont let you turn it in late unless you have doctors note. Some of her grading doesnt make sense, you dont know why you got points off and if you ask her something about the test shell tell you to look at the slides.
Dr. Crerar is a great professor. She definitely keeps class interesting and fun. Quizzes are printed out and brought to class and the answers come straight from the PowerPoint which are nice grade boosters. Her exams are not difficult at all, as long as you go over the material you will be fine.
The exams are nothing like the study guide. Very disorganized and brain scattered. It should be an easy A class, but she doesn't give good feedback, isn't flexible with office hours, and can be very rude. I had mixed feelings about her, she can be nice and caring, but only to those she knows from previous classes.
I love Dr. C, but get ready: this class involves a lot of material. There is a fairly intensive term paper, 3 exams and 1 cumulative final. Attendance is mandatory!!! There are quizzes for points every class which is a huge grade boost. Otherwise, Dr. C is interesting, funny, and makes lectures very easy to listen to.
A majestic unicorn of a human being. She is aware that this is an introductory class and not the major of most of us, and therefore tries to make your life as easy as possible. The subject matter isn't necessarily interesting to me personally but she makes it fun by being hilarious and herself. She cares what your major is.
Very spastic and scattered. Lectures don't reflect material in the slightest. Relied heavily on teaching myself the material. Still pulled 105% on all exams but it's very annoying to have to deal with a professor who cannot even perform the math correctly nor stay on topic during a lecture. Recommend taking Rockwood if you must take ecoevo.
Dr. Crerar's exams are fair. The real issue is Lab, not Lec. There is only one TA that give 100% to every student in her lab. Other TA screw their students. You might be better than students who are getting 100% in their labs but lose points just because your TA. If you want an A then chose TA that do not take lot of points off because they add up!
Professor is hilarious! I learned so much and enjoyed ecology throughout the 16 week course. She gives you a coloring book which is basically a study guide for the exam and its so helpful! The lab part is hard and writing intensive, but ask for help when you need it. The lecture was fun, the lab was hard.
By far the best professor I've had in my 3 years at GMU. Her teaching style is interactive and informative, she provides you with notes (a "coloring book")that you complete during lecture, and it's sure to keep you on task. If you're like me and struggle to pick out important info during class or when studying, she's the professor for you.
funny person to watch but DO NOT TAKE HER! SUPER OFF TOPIC! Bad instructions! Want to feel DUMB then take her. She's the queen of making people dumb. Are you a minority? DONT TAKE HER! Are you an english major & just want to do a little bit of bio??TAKE HER!! Are you bored & just want someone to call EVERYTHING YOU WRITE useless & DUMB?TAKE HER :'(
Worst professor ever. Disorganized. Goes off topic. RUDE TO STUDENTS. Wastes your time in class. Unclear and inappropriate feedback. Takes off more point than dictated by rubric just because she feels like it. Grades by feeling not by criteria. Focuses on tiny grammar mistakes instead of overall paper. DONT TAKE HER FOR WRITING INTENSIVE COURSES!!
I had Dr. Crerar for 177 which isnt a hard class at all. I did learn a lot, because the class is for civ es. The work load is really low, so take this course during a hard semester.
I LOVED HER!!!! she's very approachable and her lectures are easy to understand. No homework or tests, only 2 exams which were the midterm and finale. Overall super easy class!!!
People who complain about Professor Crerar are generally the ones who put work off. If you attend lectures and fill out the coloring book while she is teaching then you will do amazing in this class. The paper can be difficult but there are a multitude of resources to use in order to better understand.
Dr. Crerar is a good professor and makes the ecology lecture tolerable. The coloring book is very helpful for taking notes and studying for her exams. However when you are taking the exam for her she talks very loud using her lecture voice with the exam proctor which I find extremely rude/ inconsiderate and distracting. I can't hear myself think.
This is not a difficult class, the professor is very nice and has reminds students often about work that needs to be completed. The work is not stressful at all, it is a couple labs and quizzes taken online. Although there is no attendance taken, you should show up to class in case she gives any assignment on that day.
Her PowerPoint lectures, online quizzes and the coloring book helped a lot with the exams. Over all her teaching is not bad. However she gets annoyed very fast and rude when you try to ask her questions via email. She is not a very organized professor which gave me a lot of anxiety.
She is a little crazy and can go off topic but she's super nice and wants to make sure that you understand the info. There is a LOT of information but it's not very difficult to understand. Go to class, look over the lectures and do her coloring book and you should be fine. Was also super understanding and lenient during covid-19.
Absolutely zero respect for students. Does not listen to student's needs. Makes up whatever she wants and says it was in the syllabus. Terrible advisor as well, she does not understand how the program works and told me I didn't need to take 3 classes that I clearly did need. Just let her do her research on obese dolphins and leave me alone.
Dr. Crerar was a really sweet professor and I enjoyed taking her class. Passionate ab what she teaches. The tests were not so bad, but make sure to look over the powerpoints. There's a quiz for each lecture and lab/recitation is a big part of your overall grade. Just like with any other class, put in the effort and you'll get the grade you deserve.
Terrible Professor. wants to actively see students fail. Taken as an online course, but must attend all classes. Edits the online recorded lectures to cut out pieces of information to "punish students that do not show up."
DO NOT TAKE HER FOR LAB. Her lectures are fine except that she edits the recordings to cut important exam related info. and to make sure you attend live lectures. In terms of lab she takes lots of time to grade, gives POOR feedback, and takes points off for every little detail. For lectures you can take her though.
(For lab) Dr. Crerar is super knowledgeable on the subject, but she is very concise, blunt, and sometimes rude. She encourages asking questions, but then can be sassy or short with her answers. She was constantly changing her expectations and due dates for assignments. She's a tough grader and definitely doesn't make the class easy.
You can't just study off the slides as they're pictures with no context sometimes, so go to class. She gives really good examples to explain the material. At times she tells you what will be on the exams. Take good notes and study them, ask her questions, and practice the math problems a few times before the exams! Gives extra credit during class
This was probably one of the most stressful classes I've ever taken, including Orgo. Dr. Crerar goes on rants about things that have nothing to do with class, gives horrible feedback and is a harsh and confusing grader. She lets her L.A. "D" run the lecture which is awful because she is incredibly rude, condescending and doesn't help anyone.
Online format, and lectures are recorded. But she puts heavy emphasis on in class quizzes. 20% of your grade is based on in class quizzes. I am acing all her exams but flunking her quizzes because she is so incredibly boring and monotone to listen to. Her emphasis seems to be wanting to have more attention on her than learning the info on your own.
she IS the worst!!!! An insensitive person. Just busy work. assumes she don't attend class and don't read the assigned papers based on the assignments you submit. only lab professor for this course. discourages and demotivates students that are struggling in class. DON'T TAKE HER!!! gives you anxiety!!!
Although she is a little disorganized and takes a long time to grade the assignment, she is not a tough grader. She's a fantastic professor overall!
Dr. Crerar is a good teacher; she is able to effectively communicate assignments and concepts to students. However, she is a bit scatterbrained at times which makes deadlines confusing for students. If you are a sensitive person, I do not recommend her class as she can be quite harsh (and sometimes personal) in her feedback comments.
So many assignments and she would often change her deadlines for work to be due sooner! So disorganized. Her feedback was dehumanizing honestly. Out of all my professors she's given me the most anxiety, and can be very rude. If you have the option to take a different professor, do yourself a favor and do just that.
I do not recommend Dr. Crerar. I enjoyed how she lectures but that is all. She is very disorganized and struggles to communicate. You will lose points due to her not properly communicating what she wants on tests/quizzes. I had an online course and the amount of technical errors we had was astounding. She is also rude and will make you cry.
Unbelievably disorganized. Almost impossible to know when things are supposed to happen and due to technical incompetence exams and whatnot are usually pushed back beyond the already inconsistent dates. Seriously, my first online classes at community college after spring break when covid started and everything went online were more organized. awful
Worst everrrrrr. If you have any choice to take any other professor, save yourself and do it. If you are one of the minorities in the country, don't take her. I took the lab unfortunately with her. She has serious problems with students that want to get into dental/ medical schools. She is not organized and is the rudest person I have ever met.
My experience was not terrible, but definitely not good. Grading and feedback seemed inconsistent. Class lectures were just watching the professor fly through slideshows with minimal explanations and zero class activities or discussions. No interactive or engaging work, random video trivia was used in exams. This professor is too 'old-school.'
This class was a little more strict than most classes I've taken, but that can be a good thing. Overall this class was a little tough, but fair and definitely made me a better academic. Taking the extra time to review my own work a few times before submitting improved my grades a lot.
Professor Crerar was an okay professor throughout the entire semester she would change the syllabus schedule for assignments and she would change the assignment due dates which is okay because students can have extra time to work on the assignment and re edit the paper to be neat well written grammer.
Where to begin? Crerar was extremely disorganized and due dates for assignments would change almost daily. I get that this can be helpful, but not when you have a very strict schedule. She was also very dehumanizing and would talk down on us when anyone turned in work that was not perfect. We were treated like high schoolers, not adults.
I took 177 and 377 with her. Disorganized lectures with tangents and personal complaints. Her expectations were bizarre (ex no using the word "this") and made it hard to focus on the actual topic. Grading is unclear, feedback comes too late, and her personality is blunt. I got an A, but my senior year was stressful. Take her class only if necessary
The class can be tough, but if you engage with the material and use resources like Unstuck ai for study prep, it's manageable. Professor Crerar is direct but knowledgeable - attend class, take good notes, and don't be afraid to ask questions.
