Thought she was a great Professor, really Helpful. You have to be on time everyday.
Overall it was a really easy class, a lot of doing the same easy stuff over and over and over and OVER again. However, she grades very strict; I didn't end up with a bad grade, just not what I expected. She's a great lady, fun to talk to and everything, she's just a little tough to deal with as a teacher. It's like a bittersweet relationship.
I love this teacher. The best!
Grades very strictly, but she tries to help everyone do well. The class was taught almost completely in Spanish.
Grades very strictly, but works to help you do well. The class is taught almost entirely in Spanish, so you have to work hard, but you will learn a lot.
She was very helpful & resourceful. Also very serious, but her teaching style was great.
Professor Barboza is the BEST! So nice, funny and sweet. She is very student friendly. I would really recommend her as a teacher!!
Awesome teacher! Very understanding and friendly.
Ms. Barboza is a really nice person, and she gives a great explanation. I had a lot of fun in the class because she wants her students to interact and speak Spanish. The quizzes are super easy.I totally recommend taking Spanish 122 with her.
Take your Spanish classes with her if you can! She's really nice and takes what should be a difficult course and makes is understandable and relaxing! She helps you during office hours. Ms. Barboza is the best!
Spoke in Spanish the entire time. Didn't explain anything in English at all. Very confusing and not helpful at all for a first year Spanish student, even after taking some Spanish in high school. She likes to put people on the spot and expects everyone to understand her speaking in Spanish, very difficult when you are trying to learn.
Dr. Barboza is my favorite teacher! She is always willing to help. I will take SPAN 122 with her.
she is a very nice instructor and very helpful. Show up to class and do your homework and you'll do fine in her class. I would take her next class 206.
All lectureslessons are in Spanish. Not good if you have no Spanish skills even in an entry level course. She's kind and funny but isn't approachable for questions as you can't ask in English. ALL HW is online. Favors those who speak up and calls on ppl randomly. Love SPAN but hard to learn wo translation in lessons.
I really enjoy her class! It is helpful to have this class only in Spanish and to sing every day!! Professor Barboza is a great teacher and my favorite so far!
She is really passionate about the material. Dr. Barboza is the best Professor I've had since I've been to CBC. She is honest, strict, clear, and cares for the students. Take a class of hers if at all possible.
I took her Spanish 121 class and it was a struggle every day. Even with 2 years of experience in Spanish I had to ask people what she was talking about. She only lectures in Spanish and she favors natural Spanish speakers. She expects you to come to the class already knowing Spanish. DO NOT TAKE IF YOU DONT HAVE AN UNDERSTANDING OF SPANISH.
I admit Spanish language can be tricky but I am willing to learn it and I thank Dr. Barboza for using Spanish only. Only this way I can learn it, if I go to an Spanish speaking country I shall not expect people to speak in English to me all the time. I think she does right by asking us students to make effort. Is the closest to intensive training.
Great professor, she makes sure you apply Spanish at all times. Is always willing to help you during office hours and always looks for ways to be flexible when you are being tested. She is a great professor, great classes! Looking forward for future lessons with her. Great use of online resources.
She speaks no english. If you have not taken any kind of Spanish before I recommend taking someone else. You will not know whats going on in her class if you have not taken Spanish before.
She is a caring teacher really knows her stuff. She is a really tough grader and you will have a pop quiz once a week. Learned a lot but definitely worked very hard for my grade.
Dr. Barboza is my favorite of all the teachers at CBC! Very strict but very reasonable at the same time. Excellent at explaining things for native Spanish speakers, and she goes out of her way to make helpful additional material. Her class was challenging but really fun, and I learned a lot!
She's the most amazing language teacher I've ever had. She genuinely cares about her students and helps them to the best of her abilities. She is really a nice sweet lady.
I am taking her class, and I am very happy so far. Prof. Barboza inspires me!
She was a great teacher. VERY helpful and wants her students to succeed. I enjoyed her class!
Dr. Barboza is a nice lady and great professor! She really cares about her students and teaches only in Spanish. She is always willing to help you. Looking forward for future lessons with her. Great use of online resources, and be ready to sing!
She speaks only in Spanish the entire class, which is fine if a person understand Spanish. She only gave one assignment for extra credit worth 2 points, not even worth it. This class gave me the lowest grade I have got to date at CBC because the grading scale is wack. To get a 4.0 a person needs to have 99-100 and ever point less changes the GPA
I thank Dr. Barboza for using Spanish only! She is very professional and is teaching us all that she can. She is giving us an intensive training, and I love it!
She is HARD! But she just wants us to learn and make our best effort. Studying daily is a must. There are so many rules and exceptions to the rules to memorize. Side note half the class dropped out. One thing I wish she would consider is to specify what material will be on each exam, they are all Comprehensive. You cant be shy in this class.
She is very strict but she isn't a tough grader if you do your homework you'll do good in her class. Although I took this class thinking it was an easy A because spanish is my native language. I was wrong, this class was really hard.
What can I say, Doctora Barboza is by far the best Spanish teacher I have ever taken. She makes you work for your grade its a hard spanish class but you just have to read and really ask questions. I am a natural born spanish speaker and I write some what and this class taught me things I had no idea about. I definitely would take her class again.
I love Mrs. Barboza she is an amazing professor who loves her culture and loves where she comes from. She inspired me to become a spanish professor.
Barboza is an excellent professor. She truly makes students love the language. Although she can be a bit tough on the grading sometimes, she is truly fair. The midterm presentations are very important, make sure plan ahead of time. Barboza expects a lot from students but overall she is such an amazing teacher and her lectures too.
She really welcomes you in to her class. She treats everyone with respect and is always understanding. The only way to fail her class is if you really don't try. She's not hard on anyone and you learn a lot.
Dr. Barboza is one of the best professors I've ever had. She is amazing, sweet and very helpful. The class is hard but she tries to make it more fun and pleasant to learn. She is also passionate about what she teaches, and and she gives you many chances to get your grade up.
Do you already speak Spanish? If yes, then take her. If not, then avoid her at all costs. She only speaks Spanish in the classroom, and she expects you to do so too. I took her for Spanish 1, with almost no Spanish knowledge, but I though I would be fine because Spanish 1 is about learning beginner Spanish. No, she expects us to know everything.
Dr. Barboza is a wonderful teacher! She has a genuine interest in teaching. It is a challenging class but I am learning so much. My Spanish is improving! She pushes you to listen and speak in the target language which I fell is helping me a lot. She is so worth it!
When learning a second language is important to have total immersion on it. Dr. Barboza's class is a great example on how Spanish should be learnt. I highly recommend her.
Very good in class work but, outside class work was split across 3 different web sights and required a Facebook account. Also, she seems to unfamiliar with Canvas.
Loved taking SPAN 205 from Dr. Barboza. Very knowledgeable and wants her students to succeed. Go to class everyday and do your homework if you want to learn and pass.
Barboza is honestly such a caring professor. The only thing I disliked about her class was working with others for EVERY assignment we did. If you study for tests youll pass. Therefore, I recommend this class to anyone taking Spanish at CBC.
I'm a 3.97gpa student, and putting in effort isn't an issue for me.... but Prof. Barboza takes her classes to a whole new level. MASSIVE amounts of homework on the supersite, generally a week or two before its even touched in class. She doesn't explain anything, and jumps right into speaking fluent spanish leaving the majority of students confused.
Loved taking SPAN 121 from Dr. Barboza. Very knowledgeable and want his students to succeed. Go to class every day and do your homework and this class will be an easy A!
Textbook is $150 she only allows 4 absences, tough grader she is a perfectionist. Makes you sing during class and work with partners all the time. She doesnt use canvas much and takes long to grade fast paced learning class hardly explains the subject just gives notes.
Spent a lot of time explaining vocab that she used in class (immersion) that wasn't part of course. Gave day of assignments (notified us at 9am that it was due the same day at 5pm). Included vocab on the final that wasn't covered in the course. Included some new vocab in a study guide that she gave us two days before final. Very confusing overall.
Course and assignments focused on applying the concepts rather than reading about them. Perfect for this type of course. Dr. Barboza was always willing to help and takes the time to look at a problem outside of class and send feedback.
She wants to get to know each of her students and wants you to succeed. The homework sucks because it is online, but the classes and the tests are a piece of cake. Easy A if you show up, pay attention and volunteer.
Dr. Barboza is a WONDERFUL teacher! She was always happy to be there and happy to help with questions. She explained things so everyone understood. She was genuinely interested in what she was teaching! Best teacher so far!
She is so passionate about what she teaches and she wants and makes sure everyone finishes the class with something learned. Although the class is difficult for many because the Spanish learned is a little hard. Also she wants everyone to participate.
Lorena Barboza is by far one of my favorite professors at CBC. She is VERY knowledgeable and has great teaching methods. You must do the homework and study quite a bit to do good on the tests. 10/10 would definitely recommend. She seems really strict at first and is very straight forward but is such a sweet lady and is willing to help any student.
I took Barboza for 205 and her curriculum was harder than anticipated. She LOVES having people work in groups, everyday. We had one group project based on a well known Latinx person. The class is harder because she's essentially teaching you the rights and wrongs from what you've known and used your whole life. Tildes and attendance matter!
I took classes with Dr. Barboza and it was a great experience! I learned a lot, saw her willingness to help me out throughout the term. She shows real interest in having the students practicing and learning good Spanish skills. She never left my messages unanswered, she provided timely and very respectful responses.
Took her class for Spanish 205 and was an awesome instructor so decided to take 206 with her again. Planning on taking 207 as well. Weekly quizzes and Facebook posts, very helpful when needed and gives extra credit. Highly recommend.
Tooke her for 205 and 206 she was passionate about lang. Some group projects that were horrible, pres req 11 min-13 min. She is nice in person but is critical of your work. Show effort and she will reward. Cant miss a day either. Zoom or in person. I took the class twice w friends so it was easier. alone tho i would not take
She is a tough grader and expects you to do everything right. Expect a lot of random things on the test. Doesn't give enough time on test& gives it random days. Doesn't take attendance right away if you disconnect &she called attendance you are absent She takes long to reply back to students. Only 3 absences are allowed after that she kicks you out
Dr. Barboza can be very exigent in her classes but she is fair. If you do a good job and try your best, she will appreciate that. You will definitely learn a lot and will de thankful for her interest in you making your best effort.
Dr. Barboza is a great instructor. She makes sure you learn and get a grasp of what is being studied. Her classes are fun, varied and you can tell the evolution of your Spanish language command. She cares and is always willing to help, she really wants you to learn and improve.
Dr. Barboza is a great instructor. She cares and wants you to really learn Spanish as best as possible. She is very detail-oriented and will give you all kinds of resources to succeed. Very accessible, understanding, and empathic. If you want to pass the course you better take it seriously. Great professor!
This is a very hard class but Dr. Barboza is a great instructor. Watch out for some things like homework, attendance, participation in class. She will help you learn new things but you must deliver. Tough grader, so you may have to give your extra mile.
Worse teacher ever I turned in my presentation & the person that was suppose to give me feedback didn't do it so she gave me a zero although I gave feedback for the person I was supposed to grade. Gives random quizzes & not enough time. Speeds through lessons & expects you to understand everything right away. You can only miss class 3 times. worse
I am taking this class and am impressed on some peer's passiveness. I like singing and putting into practice what we are learning. Dr. Barboza is very patient even with those who don't participate. Book and homework are a great help for me to practice and study what we see in class. This is a great place for those who want to really learn Spanish.
I admire Dr. Barboza's patience knowing many classmates were almost asleep while laying on their beds, from their cars, or without their books. That is disrespectful but she always kept it professional. She is very skilled and will help us learn real Spanish and make it count.
Professor Barboza is very serious about her job. She appreciates when students participate, show interest, and are responsible for their work. Her classes are super interactive and she is strict but fair. Definitely, the place to be if one really wants to improve Spanish skills.
Dr. Barboza is an amazing instructor! I really learned so much from her. She is always willing to help us, students. You must work hard to earn your grade, she won't give you points for free. But if you really want to learn Spanish and make things right, she will definitely be helpful.
Dr. Barboza is very exigent. If one wants to be successful in her class one must read the syllabus very carefully. While she is very interested in helping you learn, she is also fair and will treat each student equally. I missed some points for not following her syllabus closely. She expects excellence and if you try hard... you'll learn!
Great professor! She is very knowledgeable and ready to help. She will offer extra-credit opportunities but you definitely have to work hard to earn your high score. This class is for students who really want to learn Spanish and work hard. Attendance, turning in assignments on time, participating in class... Dr. Barboza wants you to deliver.
I was not sure what to expect from this course. Well... I had to work hard, and give the professor my best effort. It was certainly challenging but I am responsible and follow the rules. My Spanish fluency improved a lot and I also think her classes are about Hispanic countries' cultures which I really like. Nice experience!
Dr. Barboza is one of a kind instructor! She works hard to make sure her classes are dynamic, effective, and efficient. She expects you to deliver but will also help you in anything you need to succeed. She means well and is definitely an instructor who masters the topics she teaches. I learned a lot of Spanish in her class.
Her classes are hard... But, totally worth it! She is consistent with what she posts on her Canvas and the criteria she uses to grade and approach different situations. You'll know the rules and if you do things right you will succeed. She makes her classes fun with music and activities to practice Spanish. I appreciate her commitment.
I can't believe how patient this professor is! Some of my classmates fall asleep during class while the camera is on! That is so disrespectful. Others don't have the page ready for class and we have to waste valuable class time while they finally do what they're supposed to. Hmm, seems like is getting harder to have more committed students lately.
Very hard class. Tons of Homework. As of Covid, all of her classes are online, and she does not come to campus at all. Everything is virtual with her. Tests aren't terrible, but she is a very picky grader. Which can be good and bad. Did I mention lots of HW? The presentations are huge projects and very difficult at times. Do not get on her bad side
Dr. Barboza is a great professor. Besides this is a very interesting class, she makes it even better. Her personality is great, and she really knows what she is talking about. I do recommend her and her class.
Dr. Barboza is unmatched take her courses if you aspire to better your Spanish. Her grading is tough and can feel tedious yet it's transformative. If willing and able to put in time and effort you will succeed. I would take her course again if I could. She encourages culture and to preserve your native language, this to me has been invaluable.
Initially, I was really excited to be in this class. However, this class made me regret it within 3 days. She is really tough on grading and will give you lots of homework. It is so much homework that you will jeopardize your other classes. My mental health was also jeopardized. She is so strict and makes you feel like you don't know Spanish.
What a pleasure to take Dr. Barboza's class. She is a serious, professional and very considerate teacher. I enjoy his classes because he not only knows how to present the contents but also because he does it with a dose of humor, but with great rigor. I hope to learn a lot this quarter in this class!
Dr. Barboza is a great professor. Besides this is a very interesting class, she makes it even better. Her personality is great, and she really knows what she is talking about. I do recommend her and her class!
Shes a kind person but doesn't teach good in my opinion. Took her class online, she would continuously get off topic to tell stories for as long as 15-20 minutes sometimes and didn't take time to explain. When wrong she will sometimes make you feel dumb or help kindly, she's very passionate about Spanish yes but is a very tough and picky grader.
She does have her favorite students so try to get on her good side or else you will be put through a tough time in class. Most importantly is how strict she is with grading her quizzes. You will be taking a quiz every week with limited time and make sure you know how to spell correctly in Spanish because if not you will be failing those quizzes.
You will be participating in class and if there is something you don't know please don't dare respond with “I don't know” because she will be very upset. You will be taking a quiz every week with limited time and make sure you know how to spell correctly in Spanish because if not you will be failing those quizzes
I would hesitate when asking questions because of the way she would respond made me feel like I shouldn't have asked anything. She clearly states in her syllabus that if you're a Spanish speaker to not take this course but gets mad if you don't know perfect Spanish. The text book is online, lots of homework, test are timed and recorded.
Dr. Barboza is my favorite! She really wants you to learn and she is very patient, even with students who do not work responsibly in class or outside of class. She has a great personality, she is fun, intelligent, and very entertaining. I have learned a lot in your class! I want to take more classes with her. I definitely recommend it!
I took this class online. Dr. Barboza was very friendly and made sure the students knew how to communicate with her and ask questions. She was organized and understanding. This class was very insightful and I would definitely recommend taking it with Professor Barboza!
Dr. Barboza is a great instructor. She is fun, sweet and personable, and always willing to help. The class is very interesting, and she makes it even better. Her personality is great!! Professor Barboza really knows what she's talking about.
the work was not it you get a quiz every week in which you are timed so the first quiz nearly 2 people finished take notes for EVERYTHING including videos as they are brough up in the final you also get an assignment that is about 5 pages long in writing so be prepare had so many people drop the class within the first week..
This instructors level of expectancy and her level of teaching are in the opposite directions. First week, she acts as if the class is not a beginner Spanish and asks you questions in Spanish, without us ever having opened the textbook. Gave three separate assignments for our final and assigned homework over finals without giving notice to anyone.

Dr. Barboza is a fantastic professor! She's totally sweet and nice. She would always do her best to help me anytime I had questions or trouble with something. She really wanted all of us to pass her class with an A. One side note, I wish she will give us extra credit opportunities. But she is great, I definitely recommend her!
Professor Barboza is my favorite teacher!! She is kind but strict, and with her I've been able to develop my Spanish skills. She is very patient! In class some were always distracted by other things and she never lost her sweetness. Wow! I'll be taking her next class. If you want to learn, I recommend her 100%
