She has a thick italian accent so its hard to understand her. Shes boring, its three hours of her speaking! And her tests are ridiculous! AVOID HER!
great !!!
prof smith is really helpful i took a class with her she is super nice and she is easy going . you have to study for her test but it's not so hard also she is not assigned any home work
I don't agree with the people who say avoid her. Art history is boring and it is very rare to have a teacher who makes it "fun." You can bring your laptop (surf & take notes) and watch the lesson. It will be boring if you're not drawing or doing something as you're paying attention to the lesson. No surprise tests or hw. Just study.
great and nice
LOVE this professor. Nice, funny, and helpful. No quizzes or homework; if you study, you'll have no problem passing her class. Her accent is also adorable. The one project you have is easy to do and simple.
Lorenza is the best professor ever. Art History is supposed to be boring but she's so down to earth and really passionate about art that it makes the class really interesting! She is always willing to help and let's you know exactly what is on the tests!
She is so sweet! She is from Florence, so she knows her art history! She is very helpful and quick to answer any questions. She tells you what paintings to study for the tests, you need to memorize the paintings. We did not use the textbook at all. I enjoyed her class.
This professor was very nice. She is very clear in what you need to do. She does hold you the entire time, and i have fallen asleep, but occasionally it's interesting. There is a midterm, final and one presentation. Fairly easy and i have learned a lot.
Sooo sweet and kind. No homework and 1 project you get an artist and make a quick powerpoint. 2 tests midterm and final. You also get a pre test in the beginning but it does not count. Each test you memorize information about pictures she provides the pictures. Just take notes on each picture in class and you'll do fine! Don't buy the book!!!!
Art history is not boring at all with her; I did not have to study at all because she presented the material in a manner that was easy to retain, outside of one powerpoint presentation on an artist, she never gave homework, her tests were fair (not easy but not hard), and the class was interesting.
Because of her, I want to minor in art history. Her accent is adorable, and since she's from Italy she knows so much about the culture. There's barely any outside work, just the midterm, final, and a five minute presentation that you can put to together in ten minutes and get an A. I definitely recommend this class to anyone . It was great!
She is a very nice lady provided interesting slides and information.I loved it! but the only grades you receive are through the midterm and the final. no books or homework.yea sounds good but if your not good at memorizing multiple dates names and information and dont do well on either then you fail!! TAKE AT OWN RISK.
Very knowledgeable and fun! She is from Italy and she's so passionate about the subject. If you pay attention in class you don't need to buy the textbook. No surprises in the tests. I suggest to take this class.
EXCELLENT TEACHER! I LEARNED SO MUCH. VERY INTERESTING.
I love prof. Smith. She talks with passion about art and art comes alive. She shows beautiful slides. Even if you have to memorize name and dates what is important is to understand the fundamental concepts. There is a trial test in the first weeks so you know what you have to work on. If you pay attention in class and take good notes you are fine.
Interesting and fun! I loved it. the visual material you have to memorize is on Angel. It's all very clear. The final is cumulative. Besides the tests, there is a presentation, an assignment related to the field trip to a museum (fun), and the possibility to improve your grade with an extra grade essay (and museum visit). Take it!
I really enjoyed this class. Prof. Smith is knowledgeable, nice and fair. One trial quiz, mid-term, final, and a presentation. And a museum field trip assignment. With the possibility of writing an extra grade essay. She is from Italy and she knows what she is talking about. Take this class!
Excellent class! Prof. Smith uses a variety of media that makes art interesting. During the lectures she makes connections with other disciplines, interior design, graphic design, fashion, music, film. It all makes sense. She has a good accent in every language, especially in French.
The lessons are interesting and understandable. The variety of the material she presents makes learning really enjoyable. I found this class very stimulating. Prof Smith suggests book and films. She always kind and patient. I learned so much!
Inspiring professor who correlates many topics to interest all students. Very, knowledgeable, patient and interesting all together.
Read everything she ever put on the web, smile frequently at her, and you'll pass.
Decent person, bad professor. Her lectures are unclear and her tests are very hard. Her outside projects were easy, and there was little to no homework. Failed the midterm and the final, but got A's on the other two assignments, so I failed the class.
Prof. Smith is great!!! Now I love art history. She is the best professor!
I thoroughly enjoyed this class!!! prof. Smith talks with passion and makes art history interesting. She is very knowledgeable, she talks also about interior design, history of fashion, daily life in the past, music. Now I understand art. You'll have to work, but if you pay attention in class the tests are not that hard. Very useful class!
Prof. Smith's class is so interesting!!! So far I took only the trial quiz (not graded) and it was fair. You need to pay attention in class but that's easy, time goes fast with her, she is a great lecturer.
One of the few ART HISTORY professor who keeps everyone interested in the topic. Very knowledgeable. Great overall!
As long as you take note in the class, easy is the word for her test. Very interesting class and i've learnt a lot.
Don't take this professor, she's very boring, annoying and rates students only by midterm and final exams. Her accent is thick and is unclear with her lectures. VERY VERY BORING! DONT TAKE HER UNLESS YOU WANT TO FAIL EVEN IF TRY YOUR HARDEST WITH YOUR PAPERS.
Excellent professor! Very instructive, understanding, clear and passionate. There is a mock test at the beginning (so you know what you have to work on), two exams, a presentation, a museum assignment, and the possibility to take an extra grade essay. Class participation can raise your grade.
Professor Smith is a very good teacher. I learned more than I thought and moved in with ease. I'd retake this class.
I loved this class. Professor Smith has an extensive knowledge of art history.
She is great! Very sweet and a pleasure to have.
Professor Smith is great and passionate about art history. This was a hard class however and I worked hard for my A. There is no weekly homework - just the midterm, final, a presentation, and an essay about the MET. If you aren't good with memorization this is not the class or teacher for you. Studying is essential to do well in this class.
I actually enjoyed this class and learned a lot. Just expect to be prepare especially for the midterm and the final. You will definitely need to study but if your good at memorization, it should be no problem. Just know the material well. Remember to earn a grade you want to deserve, you will need to work for it. Nothing is easy in life (sadly).
Midterm, final, one individual presentation, and one short paper about yourself. She posts the PowerPoints online but they don't have any notes on them, which are essential, so go to every class and take good notes! Not a hard course, but you do have to study. We didn't have to buy a textbook either.
I never write reviews EVER. Might be a good professor if you enjoy art history A LOT, if it is mandatory (which is my situation) she is horrible. This is because she is a hard grader. I have never come close to failing ANYTHING and I received a failing midterm grade. She has no leniency whatsoever and there is NO grading curve. No sympathy.
I took two classes with prof Smith and I wish I could take more. She is knowledgeable and patient. I highly suggest her class! Its not hard.
Ms Smith introduced me to Art History. After a few weeks from the beginning of the semester I declared my minor in Art History. I am loving her class!
only tests were midterm and final but you really need to study. You need to know all the info on each painting and vocab. take fairly good notes but she puts all the visuals and vocab on blackboard for the tests. one presentation which was easy in my opinion. her accent can be tricky but shes really enthusiastic and knows a lot about art
Her tests are hard and her classes are long. I do not recommend you take this class if it's a mandatory liberal, that's what I did and I'm pretty sure I failed. There's a tonnnnnn of memorizartion required.
she is an excellent teacher that is passionate, knowledgeable, respectful and helped me understand the material like never before
I learned so much. she is great. she is extremely knowledgeable and has a good heart. she is effective in making you understand the concepts of modern art and its ramification in fashion, cinema, photography, graphic design, performance
Not only did I have an amazing time in her class, there were horror stories about the other HA teachers. Smith really knows what she's lecturing about and gives you a real insight into the art. She's also FROM Italy so she knows her Italian art. 10/10 would recommend.
Art history can be taught in many ways, but you have to teach yourself outside of class to understand everything. You have to make a presentation and write a paper about the MET and take a midterm/final, so it's not too bad. I'm indifferent
Loved Professor Smith. She is incredibly qualified, well spoken, intelligent and clear on her testing reqs. She picked important paintings and fully analyzed them. Homework was reasonable and tests were fair, you don't need the textbook, just take notes. Plus, she has an amazing Italian accent. Would definitely take her class again.
Interesting and intelligible lectures, never boring. The Professor Smith herself is obviously very knowledgeable and pleasant person.
Great teacher! So nice. No textbook, just take good notes and pay attention. Her lectures were really interesting. Solid online materials. Only homework assignment included going to the Met and writing a small essay about a painting of your choice and a 5 min presentation. Exams are easy. Would definitely take one of her classes again.
Professor Smith is an amazing instructor! She talks in so much passion about art, and you can learn a lot from the class. you need to pay attention and take good notes. the online material is great, and if you study - exams are easy! anything you need or don't know you can email her and she responds fast! Highly recommend her!!!
Grades horribly
She's the best history teacher. She's super caring, nice, and cultured. She comes from Italy and has many experiences and traveled so she really knows what she is talking about. She engages with the students and is always repeating what she said last class to keep you fresh with content. She even makes a trial quiz to get you familiar with the test
She was really sweet, I hated art history, but loved her. I did badly on the tests but managed to get a B with all the extra credit and stuff.
She is an awesome professor. I was a little worried about taking art history but she really knows her stuff and is super passionate about art which made the lectures rather interesting. Definitely have to study for exams since they are all short answer questions, but she also gives extra credit.
This class wasn't very hard at all, but her entire online course was full of malfunctions and broken links. And the way she responds when these issues are brought to her attention is rude and accusatory? She's a confusing grader and her feedback is extremely contradictory. No matter what, I was unable to receive a 100 on EASY assignments.
She has a thick Italian accent that's hard to understand. Art history's not my thing but she knows what she's talking about.
I took her art history class online. She makes you submit voice memos of yourself talking about topics she assigned, and she can be very picky with grading them. Never got a 100 on any of her assignments, always in the 80's or 90's. I will say, she is very good at responding to emails incase you run into issues, however this class was not my fave.
Very compassionate about art history but definitely believes in quantity over quality. Lacks the ability to help prepare students for tests like giving 50 slides for a 10 question test. No matter if you study or ask questions early you will struggle to receive even a B. Just choose someone who isnt Lorenza Smith. Great lectures but terrible testing
I really loved my semester with Prof Smith. Shes extremely passionate and knowledgable of the time and history of which we were studying. There were two major tests, two small write ups and one extra credit. All material and in-depth explanations are given during lectures with study materials on blackboard. Pay attention, study and its an easy A.
An absolute nightmare of a class. I have never had a professor that was so relentless. her accent also makes the class so much more frustrating having to sit there the full three hours. no matter how much you study and know the information, you will probably be wrong. save yourself the stress, do not take lorenza smith.
Most amazing lectures! She doesn't bother you with all the boring facts of an artwork, only the essence. And she makes them super relatable. You'll be able to understand an era by looking at those pieces. Her assignments are simple, well explained. Set a reminder and turn in all the work in time and you'll be fine! Loved her!
This is my 2nd semester with Prof. Smith. Her lecture is as amazing as can be, but after we moved online due to COVID19, things went downhill. Class turned from lecture to self-studying given materials, which is concise, but still so much more work than it was. We had to turn in many additional papers with rigid dead lines, making it frustrating.
I decided to take HA112 online, and while my friends lamented on their in person class I was LOVING my online course. She is clear with her syllabus and assignments from day 1, and all of the weekly discussions are audio files! Every week is pretty much the same just different topics, and theres no check ins required, just submit on time!
Professor Smith is amazing, she is really passionate about the course content and makes learning fun and interesting. Her assignments are simple, and her tests are easy as long as you thoroughly study for them. Definitely will learn a lot from her. She also suggests good books, movies, and exhibits/museums if we are interested in the class topics.
If youre doing online classes, TAKE HER CLASS!! She gives perfectly clear instructions and the content is actually interesting! You have to do discussions and short essays occasionally. As long as you do the work on time its an easy A! She gives good feedback and replies to emails quickly. I loved her class she made art history enjoyable
Prof. Smith is an inspirational lecturer who has engaging classes despite the fact that everything is online. She has sparked my love for art history and I'm sure she'll do the same for you. She makes you work in groups which gives you a sense of connection with the other students. My favorite teacher at FIT so far
She is an amazing professor! Her lectures are very interesting and clear. She is a tough grader but she just follows the rubric. As long as you do your work and take good notes you will be fine. She is Italian and she gives good commentary on the art pieces and the overall history of European art. You will learn a lot from her! Definitely recommend
I really enjoyed Professor Smiths class. She explains the material extremely well and I was interested the whole class. We had to make a google slide after every class and she would pick one group to present at the beginning of the next class which made we nervous at first but after a while I got used to it. Would definitely take her class again.
Very good class for art history. Nothing was too hard, but did require decent effort of course. Also made some cool friends with the group projects too! Make sure you take good notes though.
Best art history class by far.
Prof Smith is nice, you can tell she is passionate about her subject so if you're into art I would definitely take her, lectures are super long and she gives good breaks but its just so boring. Homework is pretty easy but make sure you study for the midterm and final. Dont recommend taking her in the morning
This is a gen-ed class. Professor Smith makes it so much more difficult then it needs to be. She is an extremely difficult grader and her exams are horrible, only short answers. She fails to realize that most of us are here for fashion, not art history. She is very knowledgeable and trained in her subject so if you want a C-go ahead and take her.
Do not recommend this class. Only 2 tests, midterm, final both are only short answer and grading is tough. She will mark your answers wrong even if they are right. Homework is also horrible and she will give you a 20 even if you do it all correct and only mess up on the date of one painting. Dont bother emailing, she will be rude back to you.
Very rude to students. Actively patronized me while grading midterm exams. Long lectures but she gives a nice break. Take notes!!
Professor Smith is very passionate about art history and gave me a totally different perspective and level of respect for art. However, she does not treat the course like a general ed class and is a very tough grader. Exams are all short response. Take notes and STUDY.
Professor Smith is definitely smart but she is beyond rude and the least helpful professor I have ever had. No matter how much you try its never what she wants. She is rude and disrespectful when you try and ask for help. Also her tests are really hard, you can be a word off and she takes points away. She will give you a 20% or a 50% on homewor
Professor Smith was able to guide me through all the homeworks as well as the exam reviews/preparations, and responded to emails every single day of the week. I was absent a few times and she always allowed the opportunity to make up the work. The lectures, albeit many, were very inspirational and I left the course with a profound understanding.
Prof Smith was amazing this semester. You have to hand in work on time and READ all of the details of the assignments, they are v specific. If you have any questions she is v understanding. Her blackboard is very clear. There is v easy homework every week, but she doesn't remind you about it so you have to keep up in your own. Definitely take her!
she is ok, wouldn't take her again
I am not kidding when I say this, Professor Smith's class changed my life. She is so extremely insightful and passionate about the topics she speaks about. Not only did she open my eyes to what art is and what makes good art, but like I use things I learned in her classroom every day. The best classroom experience I have ever had. TAKE HER!!!!!
She is definitely one of my favorite professors at FIT. Her art history course has been so interesting because she makes it engaging, even tho its all online. You don't need a textbook, and she provides all the resources in an organized section for each unit. The homework is easy if you read and watch the material (which is not a lot)
Professor Smith was definitely my favorite professor this semester. She made her lectures so interesting and I learned so much about art history. I would want to take the class again. She's very kind and caring, she may seem a little cold at first but I would say that's her European side as she truly is very sweet and so knowledgeable.
While very knowledgeable about the subject, Prof. Smith's classes were hard to stay engaged in as they are all 3 hour PPT lectures. I studied for many hours for the first exam just to fail. She is extremely particular about wording used to describe paintings on tests. Because there are few grades put in, I was forced to drop the course.
Prof. Smith is passive-aggressive & has no empathy to those who are struggling assignment are short & strict and if u don't pass the test good luck passing she disregards mental health and anything affecting ur learning from an outside source no extra time no redos the effect of this class has permanently effected my college experience
She is rude, sadly. Condescending. She has moments of kindness but in the bigger picture, she is not a good teacher. Instead of taking opportunities to teach when someone has made a mistake, she is simply rude and there is no learning in that. If an assignment is even one minute late, you get a 0- odd for a class that isn't a major class.
Professor Smith truly opened my eyes to art as a whole. I am a fashion design major and still found myself completely immersed in her lectures. She makes the subject very relatable to our everyday lives. She is very knowledgable and takes her time with every student. tbh best teacher of the semester would def take again
Her class was overall ok, she is a tough grader when it comes to tests because theyre all short answer and she wants a specific way of answering. Very passive aggressive, felt like walking around egg shells with her, she'll bring your grade down if youre absent a few times and emailing her doesnt really excuse the absence.
DO NOT TAKE HER. She gives alot of work for an art history class.
DO NOT take Lorenza Smith as an online course. The amount of workload is insane, and no late work accepted AT ALL. She is a very very strict grader, and you will be stuck doing four hours of homework WEEKLY. And don't even get me started on her final project. I was stuck in solitary confinement for days.
Super sweet professor. Not too many assignments in the beginning but there is more as time goes on. She is very intelligent and not a tough grader.
I came into the class not knowing much or caring about Art history but I must say that Professor Smith changed that for me. She was very knowledgeable and was always well prepared. She was very helpful through email and took her time outside of office hours. She was very passionate and communicated effectively. I learned a lot and had fun.
Professor Smith was very inspiring. She managed to get the whole class engaged and is very knowledgeable about her work. She is very understanding when I had some issues or questions and is great at getting the class to have a meaningful discussion. I am really happy to have taken her!!!
Even though the class is four hours it wasn't as bad as I thought. My favorite part about this class was the homework. Midterm was hard but the final was super easy.Easy grader and also gives extra credit to help pass. She is super sweet and loves when you talk with her during the class time. She does hate when people is on their phones.
shes nice, but sometimes i feel like she doesn't know how to do her job. would talk in lectures about HISTORY.....mind u.... and would say "i cant remember the name of _____(important king or figure)" or will say "we'll talk about this topic later" and never talks about it. so confusing. shes nice, but i didn't really learn anything from her.
This was my first Art history class, and i have to say I was truly inspired by professor smiths ability to captivate my attention even though its not my major. The class isn't too hard and it is pretty clear on what you need to do to pass. Shes understanding, i loved her class!!!
For my first HA class she was awesome, very lecture heavy and you had to pay attention as she had basically all the answers for the midterm in her lectures. However, she made it clear that they were important. I enjoyed this class and learned incredible new things. Has clear instructions for her work, just follow them and you'll get an A.
Took her global crossroads class and was one of the easiest classes I've take, you just have to pay attention. I will say, it is a very lecture heavy class. My mid term was open note book and very straight forward, no trick questions. She is very inspiring and super sweet. She clearly knows what she's talking about and would take again if I could.
Prof. Smith is really great, she is thorough and I learned a lot despite this class not being directly related to my major. I would 100% take again, not that hard of a class but more importantly, an interesting class.
I absolutely loved Professor Smith's class. She's so knowledgeable and passionate about the material, so the lectures are always engaging. She always incorporated discussions as well and encouraged us to engage with the art on a deeper level, connecting it to modern events and discourse. I would definitely take her again, what an enriching course
Professor Smith is very engaging and pushes students to have difficult conversations. The work is very easy (open note midterm, lots of time on assignments) and class usually ends early. She is a very easy grader if you are active in class and can articulate the content well.
She's great! Online class was pretty easy just alot of discussions & writing but still super easy work and she's understanding about everything if you just talk to her! She pushes students to their greatest potential. Would definitely take her class again
