Think a paranormal-related class would be cool? Not with her. Comes in late and keeps you there late. If she looks at your paper will say it's fine, then she'll mark the stuff wrong that she corrected. Very confusing. Acts like that's your only class.

You'll never know what your grade is and the class will make you want to cry. there is alot of busy work that'll make you despise the english language.

she didn't teach the class at all she just had us do projects and give presentations the whole semester.
Lets just say, I used to like poetry before taking this class. She doesn't help you out at all when you ask her. You never know what she wants. She makes it hard even for someone with a good lit background. I was just happy to get out with a C.
this teacher would make you read your papers outloud and everyone else got to say their comments. it was torture i dropped. now i have a nice teacher.

i cant believe they keep her here, she was terrible and extremely unhelpful!!
unreasonable and awful
not very clear in anything
Superb instructor. One of the best I've ever had at RVC. Takes pride in her work. Keep up the good work Professor Alfe
We had previously taken our last test for the semester. We started 10min late because she was not on time. Then in the middle of us takeing the test she stepped out to get a snack and beverage, and she comes in laughin!!!! HORRIBLE TEACHER. please do not take her class
The class was split into groups and we lectured the whole semester via presentations, she lectured only a couple of times. Our quiz scores relied on whether or not the groups were able to teach the rest of the class effectively. Asked us how she should grade us! I shoulda been paid for teaching.
very hard to stay awake
She was not really helpful. She didn't explain clear on defitintions. If we have homeworks, she will not explain what she wants. I had to ask too many questions which I thought teacher should have explained more depth on instead of being lazy on lectures.
I never understood her at all. She was very unclear on her homeworks and other things. She was sarastic to the class most of the times when we ask her questions. She is not erally great at english either. She makes the test harder and its off the point tests too which really stinks. I didn't learn much when I left her class. It was really lame because i wasn't learning that much!!!!!!!

The biggest problem with this professor is that she is very unclear about what she is looking for in her students. She also has radical opinions about the themes in books that totaly changed my view of the book and made me not like them. The subject matter in her 103 class seems interesting but don't let that fool you. Stay far far away! Its a good thing that there are many sections for 103 available...try one of them!
She is a nice person but her teaching style is not so effective!
Ms. Alfe is sructually very disorganized. She has you doing 13 differents things that really doesn't help you towards your main 12 page paper for the semester. A lot of unneeded and extra work involved in her class.
Ms. Alfe is a very nice person. The only thing she ever did that frustrated me was giving back papers late. I think we could have learned more if she was more timely. However, Ms. Alfe teaches English in an interesting manner. I sat through English and was never bored. Ms. Alfe is an amusing teacher and she tries really hard to help her students.
Late by at least five minutes EVERYDAY. She is very disorganized and returned assignments after as long as five weeks. She missed a lot of classes and the subject matter always seemed to switch from English to everything but. Easy A though.
Nice person. Kind of silly.
It seemed like she didn't want to work, so she had groups of student teach like half of the book, hten we had to take a test on it. It was the only class I dropped in my college career.
She was awful when a friend had her 10 years ago for Mythology and hasn't improved any since then.
WIll give you F on assignments for small mistakes, unorganized and does not know how to teach. Has a serious AADD (adult attention deficit dissorder) Do not take this teacher. 50 tp 60% of her class always fails!
really horrible teacher, hardly ever comes to class and when she does no teaching goes on. then she will have a test where you are expected to know the impossible. very bad teacher.
The teaching status of "professor" is clearly an overstatement. This is the wosrt teacher in this entire clooege hands down. She doesn't teach you anything and expects you to know everything. She misses class a lot, so much that she has to change the syllabus two or three times during the semester. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. you've been warned.
She gave us like 10 options for extra credit, they were easy, and I went from a low B to a high A. Its not a hard class, some of the in-class things were weird, but the things that actually mattered (papers and tests)were not bad, and she gives you all the notes you need! she was really nice too.
i just had alfe for composition this spring and had a terrible experience. Her subject matter is strange, all on supernatural and paranormal which seems interesting but she is an extremely tough grader and there are only a couple of assignments that your entire grade is based off of. Good luck if you decide to take her class.
I don't know why she has such a bad rating on here, the only downfall I see her to have is how long it takes her to return your work. She works at her classes pace and walks you through the process of the papers you are going to have to write. She does miss a lot of classes but not many students find that as a fault.
Mrs Lori Alfe, she will gladly assist you with your papers, recoorect errors, and the class is taught at a steady pace. You should have no problem passing this course. Although, she is a bit staunch on her grading. I had an enjoyable experience with her and made me much more experienced and ready for Eng 103. Without her help, I wouldn't know much.
never again.. never again..
It was alright in the beginning but with only one week left it is horrible. She takes a long time to get papers back and then expects you to work magic overnight to get all papers done completly and correctly within a 2 day time. Not a well organized teacher at all. Glad I am passing cuz I sure wouldn't take her again for Eng.
nice lady, but she definately made a one credit hour class much more involved than it needed to be..
She is a horrid teacher. First she starts you out with ridiculous papers that insult your intelligence. She is at least 15 minutes late to each class so if you like waiting you will love Lori Alfe. Would never take her again. Would rather spend another year at RVC then take her again. I would never recommend her to my greatest enemy.
Alfe is an excellent teacher. The class was mainly discussion based and she encouraged everyone to input their ideas. Her lectures were always interesting and her knowledge is expansive. She got to know her students on a first name basis and created a friendly, laid-back atmosphere. The class was not difficult at all. I would highly recommend her.
Very nice and helpful. She helped me to understand what I was doing in my papers that was holing me back. Thanks to Prof. Alfe I am a runner up in a state wide essay contest.
this class is a joke. if you're already a good writer and have experience with the topic her assignments are a complete waste of time. they are confusing and it is unclear what she is asking of you on top of the fact that they are just plain silly. sure it's an easy A, but i'm paying her to teach me something that i don't already know.
she is a horriable teacher the books she has you read are stupid and the paper topics have nothing to do with the books and you cant find the info you need for it
terrible teaching techniques. i would not take another class with this professor.
She was a bad teacher.Do not take her class. She was the worst teacher ever........
she was super easy. the paper topics were a breeze. yeah sometimes it seems pointless, but shes really nice.
very helpful professor, had her my first semester at rvc, she really helped me with writing, I learned alot in her class. she was more than willing to help when i needed it too.
she was very helpful when I needed help, I learned alot in her class
while the class was challenging, she did whatever it took to help me get the hang of it, she was happy to help me after class and office hours, I ended up with an A, and I know I would not be so good at writing papers if it werent for this class and the extra help I recieved
nothing bad to say at all, for those who are looking for a teacher to take, I would take her again for other classes for sure! she was nice and knew about what she was teaching!
Horrid teacher!! Takes months to get back papers. Make a few punctual errors and your grade is dropped a letter. Very unclear what she wants. Useless paper ideas. Literally cancelled class half the time and then expected our papers to be due on time. Would not recommend this teacher to anyone. Would rather wait another year to get a good engl prof.
Shes horrible, never comes to class but expects us to. Grading is awful a few errors and ur letter grade drops. Would not recommend her!
Professor Alfe is one of my favorite instructors. She loves what she does and is more than willing to help you with anything that you need help with. I will take as many of her classes as I can while I am attending RVC. She's an Awesome instructor.
So hard to stay interested
Professor Alfe is a well-spoken, helpful teacher. Although I admit her classes have not always found me the most alert, her assignments are not as hard as they sound - nor is she as harsh on grading those assignments.
She is very helpful and expects papers to be per syllabus. Rubric is straightforward and grades very well. Rarely any notes and reading isn't necessarily mandatory, but needed if you want to make papers polished. I'd recommend her.
Knows her subject; enjoys student comments about the subject
It may not be the most fun class to take but she does try to make it a fun as possible. She's a really nice lady and she is always willing to help you (:
Very disorganized and is NEVER on time to class. Never replies to emails. And she is not reliable, because she constantly changes her office hours. I DO NOT RECOMEND HER. Horrible.
DO NOT TAKE HER! She is a horrible professor, she helped me through a whole paper, told me it was great, and gave me a D. I guess she doesn't know how to write a paper her self. She does not know how to teach, and very boring.
worst prof. ever, she speaks in a monotone. she have you read the book then when you get in class she talks about what we just read. grades very hard on grammar and punctuation.
If you are looking to write this is not the class for you, all we did was read and analyze poetry of her choice which could bore anyone to death. She's very dry and not very clear in anything that she accepts in assignments.
Prof. Alfe, I'll admit is not the most fun teacher, but she is VERY approachable, and will sit down with you if you need to discuss a paper with her. Her grading is not harsh, but she doesn't let mistakes go unnoticed. I personally have learned a lot from her.
Alfe is a really nice person but not the best teacher. When explaining things she can be quite confusing. She grades pretty harshly on papers too. She's always very helpful though if you ask any questions. Overall, if I could go back I wouldn't have taken her. Her class is very boring.
Can be confusing at times but she's always willing to help you if you need it, great feedback on the papers so you can improve with your writing, often late to class but not too bad, no tests, only a few quizzes, and 3 essays. I would definitely recommend her.
Honestly worst English teacher ever. We read fairy tales all semester. The papers were on very obscure topics. If you don't agree with her opinions, don't expect a good grade. Learned absolutely nothing. This was not English class. Should have been fairy tales and interpretation 101.
All you do is write about fairy tales. She is an exceptionally tough grader. Not very clear at all in relaying her messages to her students. I never received less than an A on any paper in college and yet i struggled to pass her class...
Professor Alfe is a very tough grader when it comes to papers. I've always gotten high B's or A's on papers I didn't get anything above an 80 in her class. Anything she writes on your paper, good luck reading it. You can barely read her handwriting. Not a fun class as she was very boring and bland when she spoke
she is not a good professor. make a few grammatical errors on a paper and kiss a good grade good bye. i recommend not taking her. she was very poor at teaching.
I went to her office hours to work on an important paper multiple times that she told me was very good, after correcting the mistakes she pointed out, I received a C on it. She grades harshly with no justification. The quizzes are mainly vocabulary questions and fairly simple. However the journal articles are graded very harshly.
Alfe takes forever to grade papers! I was halfway through my second paper before I finally got my grade back for the first one. She is late to class all the time and gives unclear directions on what she is looking for in assignments.
She definitely enjoys teaching, but doesn't clarify enough when she gives out essays. She does not give "great" feedback when you ask her questions. She is a very confusing instructor. I would recommend taking her class if you expect an easy A on your essays, but if you are looking to be pushed to work hard then I suggest look elsewhere.
She is a very tough teacher and would not recommend her. I feel she doesnt even know the rules of the handbook for some occasions and will never give you a good grade in class unless you basically harass her with every minute detail. if you dont participate you wont pass. papers seem easy but if you miss commas or too abstract you will have a D.
shes not good lol
Worst professor at RVC
Professor Alfe is an ok teacher. She can be a little confusing, but when you go in for help she helps you. I got an 88% on the essay I went in for help on. She does give extra credit.
worst teacher I've ever had. She is a random grader and I only got an A because I got extra credit every chance I had. I disliked her teaching style as well. She isn't organized with her thoughts. I would not take her if I were you.
Although she mainly lectured most classes, she was in my opinion a fairly decent professor. She takes her time when she grades, is pretty tough, but gives plenty of extra credit! If you don't do well writing, her class may be a little rough for you. When there is a chance for her to help you or to get help from a classmate, take advantage of it!
I think she's a very fair teacher. She can be tough, but if you don't understand something, just ask her and she'll help. If you do the work, participate, and read what is asked, you'll do fine.
She is a tough grader, but clearly states what she expects from the class on assignments. Participation is a must. If you do not talk during class she will call on you. All in all her class is enjoyable, but she will make you work for your grade. Thankfully She offers many extra credit opportunities.
She's an awful teacher that seldom shows up to class and grades papers with no consistency. Wouldn't recommend.
This class goes deep into analyzing fairytales and their effects on readers. Be absolutely prepared for picky grading and repetition of past lectures of English 101. Unless you are willing to take a challenge, go on ahead and take her class. If you know extremely well that English is not your strongpoint, don't take this class.
The group work really will bring your grade down if you get put into a group with others who aren't quite where they should be. She was never clear on grading, you kinda have to guess why you got the grade you got. Overall I wouldn't take her class again unless it's the only one open.
We had a test the 3rd day of class over the first chapter of the textbook without warning and half the class didn't even have books yet. She is an overall decent professor but does give lots of assignments.
Just stuck in her ways no matter how you explain it you're wrong.
I really liked Professor Alfe. Shes always in a good mood and smiling. She trys to get to know your name and likes participation. She gives a lot of extra credit too! I would definitely take her again for 103.
She is a tough grader, and participation is extremely important make sure not to miss any workshop days they are extremely important.
Her class was work but shes always willing to help if you ask. Very approachable lady!
She is an nice person, just very inconsistent in her grading. One day you get an A on something that was poorly done and a D on something you worked hard just because she didnt like how a sentence was worded. But other than that, shes approachable if you need help.
not the move.
Professor Alfes instructions are horribly confusing. Her assignments are hard to complete because they often require prior knowledge of the topic (extensive knowledge of fairy tales). She expects too much out of her students papers, causing her grading to be harsh. Its as if she thinks its a class of English majors and grammar mistakes arent ok
Prof. Alfe doesn't understand what it means to teach an English class. She assigns essays (on Freud in 103, ugh) and teaches no grammar. Fine, but when on the rubric it says to have good grammar you try your best right? No. She gives you a C on the essay because of grammar. Because you missed commas despite the overall content uncomented on.
I took Prof. Alfes online English class. There was a lot of assignments per week compared to my other classes. All assignments were with a group she assigned you too. She was a very tough grader and there was a lot of essays.
Gives little to no feedback on essays. Heavily relies on the textbook. For example, ask a question and theyll give you textbook pages to refer to. Takes a long time to grade papers (no exaggeration). Also, even though it was an online course, be ready to work in groups of 3-4 for most of the assignments + 1 group essay.
