Mrs. Bean has the most beautiful spirit, and is a wonderful teacher. It is very obvious that she loves her job because she always teaches with a smile. She make the graphing calc, and formulas seem soo easy and she is always willing to come early or stay late to see that her students understand the material. TAKE HER CLASS!!!!
Great teacher! Guaranteed A. Very, very helpful!! Extremely nice and caring
She has a thorough understanding of what she teaches. I tend to learn things like math better by having someone explain it metaphorically and she doesn't usually go about it that way. She is more literal with her explanations as she has a very logical mind. But overall she is an excellent teacher with a great sense of humor!
She's kind of silly but very helpful and explains topics thoroughly.
She was an awesomely great teacher, just as awesome as a panda driving a motorcycle! :P
great instructor, let us used our notes for the last test. we also had Mr. Bean as a sub when Mrs. Bean wasn't able to teach. gives easy extra credit questions on test that's about her or family.
She's a great teacher. Wish all my teachers are like her. She'll stay after class to help you understand the materials.
One of the best teachers I've ever had anywhere.
easiest class ever. She is the sweetest teacher. She has so much determination to help her students. I have a lot of respect for her. I didn't go that often because attendance isn't required and the homework was all online and it was very easy. Also, i'm not great with math, so good alternative to algebra 1. 4 tests, 1 project, all very easy. Take!
She's a great teacher and the class is easy. If you work with her she'll work with you. Would recommend to anybody in need a easy a math credit.
One of the best teachers ever. I'm the worst math student ever and I past her class. If you're bad at math, definitely take her.
Too fast, she needs to slow down. I don't even think she takes time to breathe. Be prepared to hear it's all in your notes.
Ms. Bean is a great instructor! I disliked math and by the end of the course I was determined to get it right. Her enthusiasm and passion for the subject she teaches is very apparent and rubbed off me. She is willing to explain a concept multiple different ways to help you understand. She really cares and if you put forth effort she will too.
Reviewing her rating is giving you guys false hope, I do not want to be pessimistic but I really couldnt grasp her teaching method. she went entirely too fast and even caught attitudes when you try to ask her a question. She need to cater to all different learning styles. I cant say if she really enjoy teaching or not.
Ms Bean, if you're the one writing your own reviews than that's sad and pathetic. You just have to accept the negative reviews you get and fix your teaching!
Gives a lot of homework, weights on your grade. She states she gives you 2 points on your overall grade for an extra 34 points on a quiz grade. Didn’t see the extra points. If you have 90% on your homework and she gives extra 34 points on a quiz , If you had a 63% , which should bring it around 90% and don’t pass the final you will get a “F”.
Lori Bean is a great math instructor. Math is not my strongest subject, but with her teaching methods, it contributed greatly to my learning skills. Lori is extremely committed to her students and is ever ready to help any time by promptly responding to emailed questions. In dire need of leave, she still opted to show up for her students & classes.
Some people say that she goes too fast, but I don't see it. In fact, if you think she is going to fast, she will help you out during the lab as long as you need.
She is excellent teacher. She is always positive and entertaining while sticking the math in your brain. I would definitely take her again.
She's funny and engages the class. Not one to teach behind a podium.
Really great teacher. Always wanting to help and will always go over what you don't understand. Also has a great personality and seems to enjoy her job.
I took Mat171 and am currently in 172 with Mrs. Bean and she is absolutely fabulous! She is willing to help whenever anyone needs it and although she moves fast, she will slow down or go back if anyone needs her to. If you don't work hard on homework outside of class, it will be hard to succeed. It really helps to prepare for the tests.
She's a great person and teacher. Very helpful and wants to see you succeed. She'll do whatever it takes to help you understand math.
Awesome teacher. Had a blast in her classroom, as well as she was super super helpful when you had questions, no matter how stupid you felt asking.
I took Math 140 in a short summer session & found it to be difficult. With that being said, I hadn't taken math in over 5 years, I"m an older student, and am a distance learner... she knew that. She made no time to talk to me on the phone, emails were brief, formal & she showed NO MERCY to my not understanding. I would NEVER take her class again!
Mrs. Bean was an awesome pre-calculus teacher! Loved her teaching style and was great in person. Super funny! There was a lot of homework, but nothing too difficult. She was good with quick grading and responding to emails. Very approachable and willing to go over material again if you get confused. I had a great experience!
Mrs. Bean was really tough. I'm not great at math anyway but she kind of made me feel like an idiot for what I didn't know. She was also really emotional and started crying like 4 or 5 times through out the semester which was awkward. She also assigns lots of group labs which were good and bad.
She is worst teacher with really bad joke. I mean nobody is laughing with you Lori. Read the mood. And her lecture is not good too. She is really bad at explanation. A lot of homework that doesn't increase performance of you. She thinks she is funny, but she really isn't. So Lori, if you see this, stop making jokes!! no one is laughing w/ you
Mrs. Bean is the first teacher to ever make me really feel like math was for me and everyone. She is quirky, fun, and appreciates hard work. Her classes can be tough but when is Calculus not? I've taken several classes with her and regret that I cannot continue to.
Has to be one of the best online teachers I've had while attending CPCC. Whenever I had a question she responded within a few hours, the assignments where explained clearly, and we only had two tests (mid-term and final). The only issue I found where the group projects, somewhat hard to do online and if you got a group that did not participate.
Mrs. Bean is a excellent instructor, she makes calculus interesting by her passionate and animated teaching style. She is willing to help students and encourages them to come to her office for extra help. She also freely gives partial credit on her tests.
Overall Professor Bean is a good teacher, she knows her material very well, is very confident and outgoing however, she is not the teacher for me. I had difficulty in this class. Mostly due to bad test taking and quiz taking. Youtube is your bestfriend, not Professor Bean. She will sometimes make you alone or the whole class feel stupid.
Took her online class. She's an amazing instructor. Replies to emails extremely quickly. Her explanations are very clear, easy to understand instructions. It's not a difficult class if you put an effort.
I'm not a big fan of the way DMA classes are handled at CPCC, but this isn't the time or place for that conversation. Mrs Bean was a decent professor. She responds to email's slowly and other than the weekly reminder in blackboard I honestly forgot she was my professor and not the woman teaching me in the videos that were required to watch.
MAT 143 online. A lot of work on connect math. HW asn. with flashcards. The course work was extensive. Each week we had to post a discussion board thread and respond to another student. 2/4 of the labs were group projects. Her grading criteria is very particular, and some what frustrating. Felt like a HS course with the monitoring and updates.
This class was very fast paced and there were many quizzes and tests. However, I learned so much from her and she was willing to help everyone all the time. The best part was that if you finished her class with an A then you were exempt from the final! I would definitely recommend her to those who are responsible and good with managing time.
The class was significantly more homework than I expected (usually 15-20 hours per week). She is a tough grader, so don't expect any leniency whatsoever. She does post reminders of assignments but does make sure that you are well aware that she has several other classes and is busy. The content is manageable as long as you don't fall behind.
Lori bean can be very tough when grading. She can also be condescending when you make a mistake on a test or a quiz, she can be rude when you ask for help. Don't come late to her class. She WILL call you out in front of everyone. If you are a sensitive person I wouldn't take her class.
I like to think I had a positive relationship with this professor, but her treatment of other students in my class disappointed me. She seemed somewhat condescending, and did not extend much of her own time to assist those who were struggling in the class, yet she found the time to deliver snide remarks about their performance.
Overall, I had a very positive experience with Mrs. Bean. Her classes are entertaining and interesting. Some topics she goes over fairly fast, but just review on your own and you will be fine. She is a very fair teacher with the amount of HW and grading criteria. There only 3 tests (inc. the final), so no room for mistakes. Overall, she's great!
Mrs. Bean is a great and enthusiastic teacher. She's funny and patient whenever a student asks a silly question. The homework is not too much and her tests are not so hard, she also gives you chances to correct your mistakes by offering a retest. The thing I like most about her is that she replies to my emails quickly.
I felt she was a very fair teacher who was truly concerned with whether the information was being received and/or understood by the majority. The difficulty of the course shouldn't influence the rating of the professor. As math teachers go I found her to be one of the best I've had.
Tests are weighted so heavily, there is just no way to recover from them. The remaining assignments are very time consuming & hardly count on your grade at all. Grading was very inconsistent. Be prepared to turn in pictures of your handwritten work, that will be good enough sometimes, and others won't. Not nice, would NOT recommend.
I believe she wanted each of us to learn the content and understand which is great for a professor. But, she is a difficult grader and it seems like she doesnt want anyone in her class to pass. I regret taking this class at this school and I have never dealt with a professor like this ever. Majority of the class passed with a D or lower!
I have never regretted picking a professor so much. I'm gonna start off by saying I never take the time to write reviews, but she is absolutely horrible. She doesn't want her students to pass. She LOVES taking points off. She lives for it. She is SUPER PETTY AND RUDE. I hate that I had to stay extremely nice so that she wouldn't fail me. gpa drop
I was in her class for 1 week before I dropped. She is incredibly rude. If you have a question, be prepared for her to put the blame on you instead of just clarifying what needs to be done. I can't really touch on difficulty, but I know there was so much work in the first week, so I feel bad for the people who actually stayed in her class
I was scared to take her cause of the reviews, but she had times you meet with the class and even time you could meet her by yourself. I used the her worked out notes and it helped on harder stuff. Calc was hard.. but its calculus.
You either love her or hate her. It was a hard class. Not due to her, apparently calc 2 is the hardest of them. She helped and answered any questions we had. She will test and grade on if you learned it.
Test are most of your grade. She doesnt offer extra credit but you can boost your first test grade by doing well on your second test. She does make you send in all work for assignments and all your notes but its to help you later on!
Professors like Professor Bean is hard to come by in the STEM department. She cares about you and really takes the effort to make the learning experience smoother and fair. Calc II is not an easy topic to cover, but she does her best to explain it and offers scheduled office hour if you don't understand a topic. I would definitely recommend her.
Course was set up in a way that was easy to follow. I get that the material is required for other classes and she gave us what we needs, even digital flash cards to study. Be prepared to learn the material and work.
Very nice and lenient with grading tests. Very fun in class and one of the best math teachers I've had.
How is she still teaching? She WANTS to fail you. She's absolutely rude and miserable. My biggest error was to sign up for her class. Avoid her and if there are no other available sections, take the class next semester.
Ms Bean's online part was well organized and had everything I needed. I think when people say she doesn't answer questions it is because she helps you think through to get the answer and learn. If you think you can just show up/do the homework and get you an A, B, or even C, don't take her. She wants you to learn and helps you.
The portion of Ms. Bean's website that I accessed online was nicely laid up and provided all the necessary resources. I believe some people feel she does not answer questions because she guides you through the process of finding the answer while still teaching you.
Ms. Bean wasn't a bad professor. She answers emails quickly and the lessons were pretty self-explanatory. Make sure you do all the assignments and set aside time during the weekends to review and prepare for unit tests. Be prepared to spend at least 4-5 hours daily studying. Just remember: DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU HAVE A BUSY SCHEDULE.
This professor is great! Her lectures are extremely thorough and she explains concepts well. This this is not an easy subject, so you still have to dedicate hours to studying. She is always happy to answer questions. Don't listen to negative reviews. If you dedicate enough time studying for this class and use resources she provides, YOU WILL PASS!
One of the best math professors at CPCC!
Great professor, if you give your all she will give her all to help you through. I personally don't like her way of teaching, she posts videos on Brightspace, and then class is for asking questions, which I think it's pretty cool, and I totally respect it, but personally I prefer lectures, its what works for me. But if that works for you go for it.
Overall, Ms. Bean is a good professor. It took me a while to get used to her teaching style, but I will say that I am confident that I learned the material. She explains the concepts well. However, I found her test to be extremely difficult. You will have to put in tons of hours to earn anything above a B in her class.
Mrs. Bean does an excellent job of explaining all the material. The teaching is divided into about an hour of videos each week plus 2.5 hours of in person lecture. This class was fairly hard, but not bad for a calculus class. spent about 3 hours studying each week. Mrs. Bean really cares. If you are committed you will pass.
Your grade is HEAVILY reliant on Test scores. There's a lot of homework and is due every 3 days, so you MUST MAKE TIME. Be prepared to show your work on EVERYTHING. I definitely wouldn't take the class again because it was very stress inducing, but she does her job well as a professor and VERY STRONGLY wants you to know the material.
My main issue with Mrs Bean is that tests are completely different from homework, classwork, and study guide. The questions are worded differently, for example "1+1=? is the classroom, homework, study guide version, and "what is the absolute value of the summation of the integers 1 and 1" is the test question. skip this Professor.
Professor Bean was a good teacher. Her class was hard although. You would watch online lectures and then come to class and go over any questions or problems. The test were hard. It was based on your work and answers, so even if you got the question wrong you could still get points. I think that Calculus is a hard class regardless of the professor.
This was definitely one of the most difficult math courses I have ever had to take. I think Mrs.Bean did her best to help us try to learn the material. Paying attention to the video lectures provided is a MUST. Also, doing homework problems is NOT enough to prepare for exams, so, be prepared to study for hours and put in the extra work!!
Ms. Bean is a great professor and one of the best at CPCC. She is very caring and willing to help anyone who may need it. Calculus is a challenging concept, but she made it easier than it normally would be thanks to how she teaches and formats her class. Fair warning though, the workload is higher than the average for a math class.
I had an 8 week online calculus1 course with Professor Bean last spring. Her lectures made the concepts very clear and easy. She went through example problems slowly step by step. She is strict about work, but has discussion board posts to make sure you are doing the work correctly. She also had good study guides. There is a lot of homework though.
8 week MAT 271 course online: In itself, the class was sort of doable, but is very homework heavy. The tests were TOUGH and short (6-8 Qs), sometimes extremely varied from questions from the homework, and sometimes more conceptual. you'll have to memorize "how" and certain "rules", so if you solve differently from her, tests will be difficult.
Great teacher, is very good at making sure everybody gets the concept at hand and goes through it step by step. She is a very nice teacher and is very willing to help.
I took the 16 week session. Don't recommend the 8 week. It's too much. 2 homework assignments each week, 1 lab and 1 test every 4 weeks. Signature assignment at the end. Work is manageable and I learned a lot. There's a whole video series to accompany the textbook, so you're set. Good luck!
8-week version ruined my summer, I had no time for anything else. Not only that, concepts made way more difficult than necessary. Every single step that you could possibly think of is required on the test, which I didn't think would become an issue, but it takes so much of your time on the test. And forgetting any small thing will mean points off.
I think that given the difficulty of this material, Ms. Bean is as helpful as possible. Responds very quickly and will help if you ask. Be expected to really know your stuff though and study a lot, she expects a lot from the work you write on tests.
My first online class so I've never actually met Prof. Bean, but she is caring and helpfully answered all my questions through email and ALEKS. She knows trig very well and all her explanations made complete sense. She's a fair grader and while the material is confusing at first, you eventually wrap your head around it with effort.
Took this class 3 years after Calc AB, had to review furiously. Calc 2 is tough, your grade reflects your effort! She answers questions 7 days a week & is mostly available before & after class. She reignited my love for math, & probably taught me as much algebra as Calc 2 haha. Ask questions, work hard, & you'll do great. Wish she taught Calc 3!
She answered our questions with questions. The tests had no correlation to the study guides. I had her for trig, and I liked it only because we used ALEKS. In her calc class, she used a different program which regenerated the same three questions. Withdrew because my hard work did not pay off and when I needed help, I received none. Never again.
Very passive aggressive if you ask her questions. lectures okay. The assignments match the tests pretty well.
Definitely the best Calculus teacher I've had. As long as you are proactive about watching videos and learning the material, it is easy to understand. Wish she taught more advanced math classes so I can keep getting taught by her.
Lori Bean was a great Calculus 2 instructor. Has some degree of leniency for late work (up to 1 week past due for homework with 10% grade penalty). You earn the grade you get, but the way she taught made the class not impossible to do well in. Definitely one of my favorite math instructors at CPCC.
Lori Bean grades and replies quickly, but from my experience, repeated passive-aggressiveness and dismissive behavior show a lack of professionalism and respect for her students. Her responses can be vague or unhelpful. You can pass if you work hard and use outside resources, but don't expect her to be kind, supportive, or helpful beyond the basics
I took her for Calculus 2 online, and she is easily the worst online professor I've had. Calc 2 is hard, yes, but her teaching rarely helped and led to more confusion. The amount of homework assigned is not worth a lot of credit in the class, yet there are tons of assignments due constantly.
I had this teacher for calc 1 and is arguably the worst at grading I've had yet. Its calc 1 and a big jump sure, but when you learn more from ChatGPT than your actual instructor there's a clear problem. She grades based off of a textbook and not what can also be used. When it comes to her teaching she mostly just has us do practice problems.
My best advice I got was to watch her lectures. She had lecture notes with tons of examples, all explained in her videos. If you do use like chatgpt, make sure you double check that method to see if it isn't beyond what is in the book. She won't let you use something not from course (learned the hard way). Once you get over that, class was great.
Decent instructor, she is accessible outside of class and has office hours. She can be passive aggressive as well as condescending with students. Teaching mostly consists of practice problems. I found that other resources like ChatGPT and Youtube can be of more clear instruction. If you are rusty on your math skills I would suggest other instructor.
