I enjoyed her class...I had her the first semester she started teaching at Eau CLaire in the Fall semster of 2000. As long as you do the reading and go to class(the majority of the time) you'll be fine!!!

Disliked her teaching
Really a sweet prof. Always smiles. Not very demanding, easy to get good grade!
crappy communication skills about tests
assigned papers ahead of the lectures in class, so we never knew what we were supposed to write until after they were handed in, when someone would ask a question in class she's just say "well what do you think the answer is, didn't help review for t
Exams are easier because all questions on them are gone over on chapter outlines and study guides
An excellent teacher. My favorite of all time. Great teaching technique!
She is a great teacher and explains things really well so you can understnd, and great with questions. She goes at a good pace with the material and tests aren't too bad. the tests are multiple choice, and set up in a real life example format.
Very nice lady. Good class.
Oh Lori is such a sweetheart! She is always smiling & gives real life examples that help u understand psych..She truly wants her students to succeed & is willing to help with anything..Although her class is difficult I learned a lot..I never once picked up my book, everything comes from her lecture
Vary easy class- all assignmenets are optional (to add up to 50 points in the end-you pick what ones you want to do or you can choose to do none and hand in cartoons or do research studies. All things about 6pts each.) She goes at a very slow pace, and you do nothing during class. Tests kinda hard.
She is a great teacher. She wants everyone to really understand the material and succeed in her class. She uses lots of real life examples to help you get it. Likes questions and does study sessions before her tests. Also gives opportuninty for extra great! Nice teacher would recommend her to anyone
Prof Bica was extremely helpful. If you read your text and are prepared for class you will be able to participate in the lectures and talk about real life situations where you can apply what she is teaching instead of simply copying her power point. Simply be prepared for her application tests.
A very sweet lady. What she teaches in class is very similar to the book, but she gives all kinds of real life examples/stories that make class interesting and fun. Writing assingments are few and relatively easy. Study your notes and read the book & you will get at least an A-.

Prof. Bica is a super sweet lady. She is all about helping you succeed in whatever way she can. Offers office hours for help and there are plenty of opportunities to ask questions in class. Provides many easy-to-relate examples and makes the material very easy to understand. If you want to do well and understand / retain info, take Bica!
Not helpful at all, I had problems and went to here and she did not help me. It was also odd when she was gone and had a sub I did awesome of the sub tests, because I was actually TAUGHT the material.
Very organized and smart lady. She knows what she is talking about and gives many clear examples with her powerpoints. She follows a schedule. It can be boring, but if you study frequently and don't cram you will do fine.
She is a very smart teacher and well organized. She answers student questions well and if she cannot she finds out the answer and responds in a timely manner. Tests are difficult but manageable if you study. While they are multiple choice you must know the material well in order to succeed
Such a great professor! Seriously, one of the best. So clear and so helpful. You dont actually have to do the reading. Just pay attention in class and write down everything on the overhead and you will pass with ease, probably get an A. And definitely go over the "most missed" list she gives you after each test. Such a great person, so funny.
Awesome prof. One of the best I've had. So nice & interesting.
Really is a very nice professor. If you have any problems, she will help you or at least stear you in the right direction.
Bica is a very nice woman. The class moves very slowly but she def. Knows her stuff and wants to make sure everyone else knows the info. too. Not an easy A like some psych teachers @ uwec but a possible B. Not a class to shirk off in. Her tests are harder than you would expect.Long winded,Often boring but so sweet it's hard to hold it against her!
She is very organized and incredibly helpful if you have questions. I suggest you take her if you want to challenge your mind and have a very intelligent professor.
She wears some ODD clothing some times. Ha. Kinda funny to watch. Sadly, one of the only reasons I go to class every day.
So far, my favorite teacher here at UWEC. Very nice, seems like the "mother-like" teacher. Her voice is soft so it kind of puts you to sleep but a very good teacher.
shes such a sweet teacher. one of my favorite teachers so far. she gives A LOT of examples...sometimes too many b/c she goes on talking about it for awhile. but she makes sure you understand everything. the tests are really not bad, 50 multiple choice questions..4 tests total. i enjoyed this class.
Love her. She uses a lot of examples and is willing to meet with you outside of class. Hard tests but if you study you will do fine. She makes almost everything interesting and she is such a sweet lady! Take her if you love psychology or you are just taking it as a Gen. Ed.
Very nice lady. She does cover things very thoroughly...but i think too much sometimes because some classes tend to drag on about one topic the whole period. Pretty easy as long as you keep up in the readings and pay attention in class. grade is 4 tests plus you need to acquire 50 points in participation activities.
Bica was a really nice and understanding teacher...I learned a lot in this class. Class assignments were very simple and easy...however when it came to the tests...some questios were confussing..where they could be two different answers. If you put time into studying and reviewing the text book, you should do fine!
her tests are all based on your notes so take good notes!!! dont really have to read the textbook unless you really want to...she's a pretty kool professor and she;'s really laid back.....overall she was fine....
honestly, it was boring...
Dr. Bica is so nice! She makes sure that you understand things in class, and gives tons of examples. There are study guides before each test, and if you do them, the tests are really easy. Make sure you come to class on Fridays, because she tends to give out important info not in the slides.
this class was not difficult but was boring as hell. i had a hard time not falling asleep everyday. but she did make things pretty easy
Hands down one of the best professors at UWEC. Gives a lot of real life examples to help with the topics, is passionate about what she does and cares a lot about her students and truly wants all to succeed. Extremely approachable and interesting and so positive! Excellent class and great professor!!
Tests are entirely based off of notes from lecture. I never read the book and I got an A in the class. Just make sure to do the homework. I almost fell asleep in every class because it was so boring and her voice is so monotone.
Awesome teacher--lecture can get a little tedious. I took AP psych in high school, entire class was review for me. Easy "A" class, interesting.
Her lectures were very clear; she was very easy to understand. The examples she gave for certain concepts were extremely helpful. I had a little difficulty with her tests, but if you study the notes, you should be good.
She was one of the nicest teachers, however when troubleshooting exam questions and proving my answers were correct she still wouldn't give credit. Has shoes like Denise Richards and her overall personality is very likeable. Exam questions can be tricky so make sure you read questions and the specificity of the word choice used.
She is a great person, easy to follow in class and if you do the chapter reviews you will do just fine on the tests! i recommend her!
I love psychology but this class was the most boring class I have taken here so far. The powerpoints make me want to fall asleep. She knows what she is talking about, I am just not motivated to pay attention all the time
She came in to teach the class for the last half of the semester and THANK GOD! She uses power points but definitely goes off and initiates conversation with the class. If you can, TAKE HER! She is SO nice and always willing to help.
Great professor! She's very engaging and while most of the class is done through power-point there is also an element of discussion that goes along with it. She is very eager to help and very approachable.
Dr. Bica is very nice and has really interesting lectures, but her tests are difficult. My class had to switch teachers in the middle of the semester so that might have something to do with the difficulty level now. Just make sure you take good notes on the little extras she gives in lecture.
Don't take it. She's not organized, tests are just a make up of random things that she never covered. Threw in a research paper just for fun and homework....oh yeah! tons of it. This class is so dry and boring, don't waste your time.
If you are stuggling in her class good luck getting a meeting time where she remembers or doesnt cancel on you. Her lectures do not focus on what the test will be on. Nothing relates. Nice teacher but too busy to offer help! I had her last year, and I hear nothing but the same about her every semester from different people.
Awful, I'd rather pull my hair out, strand by strand than sit in her class. Tests are completely pulled from no-where...She likes to hear herself talk too, so she'll keep rambling on and on. Take this class with the other teacher. I got a D in the class with Bica and I re took it with the other teacher and got an B+.....same material............
Nice Professor, easy to approach but she is very busy. Talks a lot and tells personal stories that relate to powerpoint material. Lessons may be disorganized but notes and text coincide with text. Interesting topics and she is willing to help with studying for tests.
Professor Bica is a great professor!! She has very good lectures that are interesting and make you want to go to class. To study for the tests she will give you an outline with everything that is necessary to know, and the tests stick to that information, which makes it alot easier to study.
I took this class last semester and I found it extremely boring. Though it's obvious that she knows the material, she cannot deliver it in a way that is at all interesting. Though she says to read the textbook, I didn't find it necessary (nor was paying attention in class, really), even though I had no background in the subject.
Great prof! Loved her class. She is incredibly knowledgeable about her subject, and you can tell she really enjoys teaching it. She made lecture interesting and made sure everyone understood the material by using stories that relate. Read the textbook and take notes before class, and take supplemental notes during lecture.
class was interesting. a lot of your grade is determined upon if you do the readings or not, no exams or quizes. two papers that are interesting to write. overall very good class take it!
Very boring professor with hard tests. If you don't want to be a psych major steer clear of Bica her tests are pretty tough. A nice woman and all but for the average student that wants psych as an easy A or just to fill a requirement not the best fit.
An extremely hard grader. Class was interesting and she was helpful but be prepared to know every little detail for every question on the tests.
pretty nice
I think she is a very nice lady. Her voice puts me to sleep because it is so calming. She knows what she is talking about. Her tests are hard, all examples so you have to understand the concepts. She makes a study guide for you to use while reading. MAKE SURE TO TAKE NOTES! she quizzes on topics talked about in class that aren't on powerpoints.
She was not the greatest teacher and way to in depth for the class.
This class was very easy but super boring! If you read the book you would not have to attend lecture and if you attend lecture you would not have to read. She sometimes goes on tangents which get quite long and redundant.
NEVER TAKE THIS ONLINE!!! So complicated, 2 tests a week, very confusing especially with Bica, made us do 3 projects, no down time, spend 6 hours a night on it, no life. DONT DO IT! I tired to get help from her and she was useless. Grades everything super hard and doesn't care about you on a personal level. Way to hard for only 3 credits. Horrible.
Bica knows her stuff, but tends to get side tracked very easily. She doesn't stick to the schedule and there is no actual set of assignments, just whatever she feels like you should do that day. Tests are hard, but if you pay attention in class you do fine.
Prof Bica is very interested in her students succeeding. She mostly covers what the book tells you so you don't have to read the book, but if you miss a class you can read and catch up.
Lectures are long and boring. Never clear on what will be tested on. You won't do well if you don't do the readings, the reading guides, and take notes. She's also really annoying and always lets us out late. It's not terribly hard but it's not an easy A.
Bica is a very nice lady, but very boring. She has a very calming voice and moves so slowly that you will most certainly fall asleep. However, her class is fairly easy and she is very helpful when you need anything. Just show up to her class, do the reading guides, and stay on track with the choice activities.
She is very smart in the psychology field but is not the greatest at teaching the content. When you ask a question, you usually receive a question in return. A lot of projects. Tests are quite difficult. Assignments that were done in the beginning of the year are still not in so it is difficult to see where you stand in the class.
We read the ENTIRE textbook from cover to cover in one semester. Let that sink in. Interteaching guides are required but she always gives clarification on fuzzy subjects, but she does expect a lot from her students. Read the textbook, get involved, and pay attention (even though sometimes it is easy to nod off in her class). She is full of info.
Don't do it. Does not listen to students. Super hard tests.
She is terrible. She talks like we are in first grade. 1 packet due every week and you have to give feedback to others. You're grade for them also is an average on other peoples ratings of your work. STUPID. Can't stay awake in class. DO NOT TAKE HER.
Here at uwec this is the worst class I've ever taken, its very hard to follow and her teaching style puts me to sleep.
The most boring teacher I have ever had, its hard not to fall asleep. Lectures drag on and on. NEVER TAKING HER AGAIN FOR ANYTHING!!
So basically she is super nice but not a very good teacher. I literally taught myself all the material because even sitting in class anything she says nothing helpful. Read or you won't pass.
I planned on majoring in Pscyhology but after taking Bica I lost interest. I knew all the general concepts of psychology from previous courses in high school but when it came to the tests, the information seemed foreign to me.
she never really lectured and we were always a chapter ahead with our readings compared to the tests. and in this class you literally have to read the entire book. she doesn't grade things at all, probably until the end of the semester. the entire course was based off of group work
Most boring professor I've had. Long lectures and doesn't teach a whole lot. We had to read the entire textbook and I basically had teach myself the material. The exams were also really hard. Would recommend Bica, I will not be taking anything from her again!
If you show up to all of the lectures and take good notes you will not have to read the book and will get a good grade with relative ease. The test are based off the lecture and are all multiple choice. Good teacher for the course, would take again.
Women's psych was interesting and relevant but the structure of the class made it hard to get through. Reading guides: tedious and repetitive. Discussions: entirely based on the readings. Grading wasn't completed on any of the 26 guides until after finals. Feedback on major assignments was quick. Overall interesting material but bad set up.
Professor Bica is extremely kind and helpful. I saw a bad review of the online class on here but I can't say I agree. Yes, there is a lot of work, and it can be confusing, but it's an online class that condenses a semester into three weeks. Her questions truly do help you learn. I think everyone should have to take this--SO applicable.
Professor Bica is a really sweet lady, but the Psych 230 is ridiculous with her. Every week you have to complete a study guide, and then reply to a group discussion about it. Her tests are open book/note but regardless are really hard. Lectures often go off on tangents and aren't super helpful. Overall, prepare for a difficult time in her class.
Although she is always willing to help and the class isn't too hard as long as you do your work; she is repetitious and every day in class we do the same thing and it gets really old. We do a prep guide every week out of the book and she teaches everything out of the book which gets really old. I wish she would mix it up a little bit.
Dr. Bica is definitely not my favorite professor. All of her classes are the same. Every week. You will have a lot of homework to do EVERY single weekend. She makes you do these prep guides and then give feedback to your classmates. That is her job. Not yours. Tests are nothing like what is learned in class.
Bica is very sweet and respectful towards her students. There is a reading guide due every week and then in class we just talk about the guides. It gets very repetitive and boring, but I do believe that actually trying to do well on the guides helped a lot with my learning. The tests are open book which is great.
Dr. Bica is a very nice woman, but the class structure is very unhelpful. She makes you do these really long reading guides and give feedback every week. Going to class was pretty unhelpful because she never lectured, but instead made you discuss the guides with your peers. The class was overall confusing. Also, she takes a very long time to grade.
This class was fairly easy but be prepared to teach yourself ALL of the material. Each week you do a long study guide from the book, which is very effective for learning, but Bica just talks about the guide instead of actually lecturing. The tests were easy if you filled out your guides well for reference. Projects were totally up to you to design.
Much of the work was online. I had to read every chapter thoroughly every week and complete a prep guide. These were super useful because we could use them on the test, and they did force me to learn a lot. This class was a time commitment but overall I learned a lot and the content was interesting.
Dr. Bica expects you to complete VERY lengthy reading guides every week (usually took me at least 2 hours). Although these are a pain in the butt, and you have to correct other classmates, you are allowed to use them on the exams which she allows you to take either online or in person. She is very personable if you ask for help. Just put in work
Psych is a tough course in itself. Bica is there for you if you need help but the test are incredibly hard. I could study for hours and still not do well. Definitely need to read the book and teach yourself a good portion of the class.
I did not enjoy this class with Lori Bica. Lectures were very boring and we did the same thing every day. You had long assignments each week, and then had to go over your group members assignments and give them feedback, and then talk about it again during class. I wanted to skip every day but had to attend in order to pass. Wouldn't recommend.
I would never take a class with her again. She told our class she was there for us as a tutor, not a professor. She refuses to lecture, everything is based on 4/5 page prep guides. She does not cover topics unless you specifically ask. She will sit and stare at you until you ask a question. Even if you ask she will sometimes ignore you.
Assigned petty, busy work that made students feel like they weren't adults. Students were treated like secondary, or lower, students, not college students. Course is all over the place.
Professor Bica is overall a good professor. She talks very slow, so lectures can get a bit boring. Showing up to class isn't mandatory, but show up anyway, you will thank yourself for it when it comes to the tests. She tries her best to include and try to get students to participate in lectures. Overall a good professor.
Comes to class late and unprepared. she even said "I never know what we're going to talk about" I always leave class feeling like I didn't learn anything. She talks to us like we are in first grade and her voice will put you to sleep. I will never, and I HIGHLY suggest avoiding her as a professor. She stairs silently at you and makes me uncomfortab
Worst teacher i've ever had. She does not teach at all, coming to class is almost completely worthless. You will turn in papers on occasion- that is the only reason I ever came to class. She makes you read the material and talks about it a week later. I do not enjoy her class at all and will be trying my hardest not to take her class again.
Professor Bica is one of the worst professors I have ever had! I took AP Psychology in high school and received an A but in her class barley received a B. Her tests were very bias and everything she though was opinionated. If you can take it with another professor or online, I would recommend.
Professor Bica is a very nice lady who cares about her students. She goes the extra mile to make sure everyone is understanding the material and that nobody has any questions. The only problems I had were she doesn't teach very well. She explained things poorly and sometimes I felt like I didn't learn anything at all. Make sure you read the book!
Overall she is a very nice lady. However, she takes forever to grade things and to give feedback on important projects. Also, the assignments and reading need to be done like a week before she even talks about it in class(if she gets that far). The class was very all over the place with very unclear guidelines on assignments and grading.
Professor Bica is a very nice person and she cares very much about her class and students. However, 90% of the grades for the semester come from the four unit tests. There are only a handful of assignments (usually only worth about six points) which makes it hard to get a high mark if you're not the best test taker. Falls behind in lectures too...
The classes are really, really boring but it's mandatory to go in order to do well in the class. There's very little actual teaching in class you teach yourself everything outside of class in prep guides. She kept falling behind and pushing deadlines so at the end of the semester we had a lot to do. She doesn't answer her email that often.
Psych 230 is a great class, but Professor Bica was definitely not my favorite professor - she holds office hours only one hour per week, & she almost never answers her email. She is very slow at putting grades in/giving feedback, & she pushes back almost every deadline (often multiple times), which causes things to pile up - very frustrating.
Lori is a nice lady but everything is never graded on time and that makes it difficult when relying on feedback for projects. Does not answer her email very often and her lectures are very boring. It ends up being a lot of work outside of class through prep guides. This class was kinda all over the place
Professor Bica is a nice woman, but she often falls behind in her lectures and doesn't follow the schedule and due dates. Also, her lectures were very boring most of the time and made psychology not interesting.
Lori means well, but she takes forever to get grades back. Expectations are clear, assignments are straight from book and take a long time, but they are VERY useful for exams. If you do the work, the class is not difficult. Would definitely take her again!
Her style of teaching is not the greatest for students. She makes the students complete a "prep guide" every week that is 4+ pages and that is all she discusses during class.
Psyc 230 with Bica made me so upset. It was a GE for me and I spent at least 3 hours every week on the homework which I think is pretty ridiculous. We do these prep guides that take forever to finish and she reads right out of the textbook. Don't even bother showing up to class because she basically just goes over the stuff that you find in thebook
Is unorganized and can have confusing assignments, but is an easy grader and will work with students. She's very lenient! Skipped a lot of classes but passed with a B. Interesting readings. Work in groups everyday to go over answers. Not too bad!
This class was an easy A because she hardly pays any attention to what you are doing as an individual , she relies on peer grading for the majority of the homework. She assigns 4 "creative" projects (read: minimal guidelines) and she rarely had time to actually grade them properly. I could have skipped class everyday and still gotten a B
People complain about having to read the textbook.
If you make the effort learn all of the class notes, you will do well on the exams. If you skip class often, you'll get a C or worse.
She is super nice and easy to approach. For my Psych 100 class, she was pretty punctual and really made sure we understood everything very clearly. Easy grader, the tests are pretty easy.
This class was not hard, but VERY time consuming. You have to complete prep guides every week that are at least 4 pages and take me hours to do. They are peer graded and she lectures about questions we have on the prep guides. If there aren't any questions, lectures are pretty repetitive. This class could/should have been an online class.
Bica is a very nice, approachable professor but her lectures can get very boring very quickly. Be prepared to read and do a lot of prep reading guides for classes that are time-consuming. If you listen to her lectures (even though it's hard sometimes) and take notes, you'll do fine. The exams can get tricky.
Grade is based on peers' feedback they give you on insanely long prep guides every week. Not once did she respond to any of my emails. Won't know what you're getting in the class until the end of the sem, which is super frustrating. Students do all the grading so not sure why she never has grades in D2L. Unorganized; prep guides took 6+ hours.
The most boring and pointless lectures I've ever sat through and the tests are still hard. She is very nice but nice doesn't get you an A.
Nice teacher overall, but she never seemed to get to the important material during class. A lot of textbook reading.
Be ready to read the whole textbook and teach yourself the majority of the information.
I would recommend taking this class with any other professor. Lori assigns 'Prep Guides' each week which are basically really difficult reading guides that take hours to do. Then, you have to peer review other people's guides and grade them on it, meaning a good chunk of your grade is decided by your peers. Exams are difficult as well.
Do not take psych 230 with bica. If she is the only one that fits in your schedule take it at a different school. She makes you do prep guides that are extremely long and a waste of your time. Her tests are extremely hard. This class is much easier with any other professor or online. If you do take it with her good luck to you you will regret it.
Bica is very smart and has a great personality. I think she gets off topic a lot. She wants to teach what the students wanna know about. If you read for the reading assignments, thats what she talks about in class.
Really boring lecturer but she is really nice
Had her for psych 100 and she was a great teacher! Very in depth explanations, and yes like other comments it can get boring but if you are really interested in psych youll definitely enjoy the class. She gives example questions for tests and is always clear about the material, also on occasion gives bonus points on them too! Highly recommend!!
Bica really has a great personality and I love having her as my Psych 100 teacher, and am hoping I can enroll in her course for Psych 230. She is a tough grader and hands out a lot of homework; but as long as you do the readings and the homework you should be prepared for the tests.
Psych 100 with Bica felt like high school but slower. Like reading guides were assigned but the context covered in class was always at least a week behind. Lectures kinda boring and her class is "technology free" so break out the pens and notebooks. She's a sweet lady though and will give extra help if you ask.
I thought Professor Bica was a good 100 level teacher, but towards the end of the semester she seemed to run out of new material for us. In the beginning she would supplement our multiple textbook readings with new and other information in class, but at the end we just reviewed HW in class. Lots of readings with logs, and "free choice" assignments.
Professor Bica is a fine instructor. I took her psych 230 class and got out of it with a B. It isn't a hard class but there is a lot of work to do and you really only learn from the textbook. You have at least 2 prep guides due each week that take at least 2-3 hours to really do and you really only learn from that. Bica's lectures aren't great
Dr. Bica is kind and helpful, but lectures were very dry and boring. Tests were moderately difficult but she doesn't put anything on the test that isn't covered in class.
By far the worst course I've taken. Uses interteaching method. Assigns heavy reading to learn material and homework before discussing in class (1-2 chp per week). Requires students to grade homework. Fails to give feedback/finish topics before exams. Coming to lecture is pointless. Assigns homework due during breaks. Got so fed up I took the W.
Psych of Women is structured almost entirely around discussion based on tedious reading guides, which were largely ungraded until after finals. Two papers, which were interesting and graded quickly with relevant feedback. Content was interesting and not particularly difficult, just be ready for lots of reading and reading guides.
I took Psych 100 with Bica and thought she was fine, so I took Psych 230 with her. Biggest mistake of my life. You have to do reading prep guides outside of class that take 4 hours to do, and then lectures consist of her rambling about it (which was completely useless.) Tests were difficult and I dont feel Ive learned any of the information.
Bica is awful, avoid her at all costs!! Every time I went to class I debating dropping it. Her lectures are pretty bad honestly, and the tests are not the easiest. This class should have been easy but it was so tedious and frustrating. You will have to read the textbook front to back to do the homework.
Avoid her at all costs. Readings or "preparation guides" are due every week and they take 3-4 hours to do. Students grade them and she fails to give feedback on what is actually going to be on the tests. Lectures are awful and pointless. Im surprises I went to class as often as I did, attendance was not required however.
Dr. Bica is sweet. She gives me aunt vibes. She loves psych a lot, and her lectures reflect that. She is a timely grader and expects a lot out of students (which makes sense because most people taking this class need it for their major). Lectures can get boring but are crucial for a good grade.
This class is not that difficult but it takes up a ton of time. Prep guides, projects, both require a lot of work. The worst thing about this class is that all the prep-guides are peer graded, so you will have to grade an entire section of peer prep-guides. This took me an entire day, not stop of working to finish.
Do not take her. I had her for both 100 and 230. She makes you do these prep guides that take HOURS/DAYS depending how much you actually do. My gpa decreased dramatically because of her. If a nursing major especially, FIND ANYONE ELSE. I am now going to retake the class with a different professor who actually wants you to succeed. Very upsetting.
I really enjoyed Dr. Bica's Psych 100 course. Although at times it was hard to pay attention to the lectures, as long as you do the study guides for the class and thuroughly pay attention during lectures the tests are somewhat easy. She is a very kind professor, and really helped me a lot when I met with her individually.
I like Bica as a person but she's tough as a professor because she dominates lectures. She really cares about her students and for that, I like her. The prep guides are a pain but it goes by quickly. I don't think she expected too much of students as college upperclassmen. She really is super kind and willing to help you with anything you need.
Lori knows what she's talking about in terms of the Psychology of Women, but for one she does not grade any assignments until two weeks before the semester is over so you'll have no idea how you're doing throughout the semester. Another thing is she lectures the same way every single day and it gets so boring. She also never responds to emails.
Material is easy, however Bica never answers her emails, doesn't offer any advice or help, and ignores you unless you confront her face to face. She was extremely unsupportive when I was having difficulties with the class and she makes it known that any technical glitches are never Canvas or her fault; it's always user error.
tests arent super easy. lots of busy work and reading. lectures are boring and you dont learn a lot from them
Honestly, she was very nice and upfront about her expectations. So long as you do the homework, pay attention, and ask questions if you're confused, you're not going to have a bad time. Sometimes I was a bit bored but it was never stressful.
Dr. Bica is a nice person. She seems very passionate about teaching, but sometimes the lectures were hard to sit through. The exams were also somewhat challenging, you definitely have to know the material well. She does give helpful feedback throughout the semester and is accessible outside of class. Overall a good professor.
she isn't very nice and understanding with online school and was not considerate to situations the students were in. lectures are hard to follow. no much feedback on reading assignments. tests are very hard.
I never skipped class and still didn't do well. not considerate of students who couldn't be in class (quarantine). no feedback on reading assignments. lectures are hard to follow. tests are very difficult. I do not recommend prof bica.
I used to pray that I would get hit by a bus on my way to her class. The exams are a nightmare, she doesn't record lectures and the few recordings she has are poor quality. She doesn't reply to emails and unless you catch her after class you'll never speak to her.
Made class attendance mandatory during a pandemic. Being in a ball room in Davies, it was impossible to understand anything over ultra because she wore a mic & did not stay by the computar. clear grading and study guides due at least once a week but frequently every day. sweet lady but it made hard to learn during a pandemic.
Terrible professor!!!!!! She was very inconsiderate of those in quarantine. She doesn't give you feedback on your reading guides. She also doesn't go over them, so you have no idea if you have all the information. If your answers are worded like the textbook, she will give you a zero. Her lectures are pointless and she doesn't give you any notes.
She's really passionate about psychology and wants students to ask questions during class and interact. There is no attendance penalty for missing class but it's important to go to do well on exams.
My favorite class this semester. I learned so much that I can use later in life. I appreciated having a class that met in person during the pandemic because virtual classes don't work for me. Dr. Bica is very organized, sticks to the calendar, and posts grades quickly.
Professor Bica is very nice and cares about her students. She goes the extra mile to make sure everyone is understanding the material and that nobody has any questions. She explains things well. Definitely make sure you read the book and do the study giudes!
Prof Bica explains material clearly. I appreciated that she kept the class organized and always on schedule during a semester that kept changing because of the pandemic.
She is so knowledgable on everything she lectures on and you can tell she is passionate about what she is teaching and about her students. A super interesting class that I would take again
Dr. Bica is probably the nicest professor I've had so far. She's very educated and really wants to answer your questions, so don't be afraid to ask them even if the class is one of the larger ones! Her Canvas and her lectures are very well structured.
I took this class as a senior and was glad I did. I will definitely use the information
If I could rate a 0, I would lol. Don't take this class unless it's needed for your major. Lori B will grade you zero points if your assignments are a little bit similar to the textbook. Her lectures are blown out of proportion and you don't gain anything from it.
Dr. Bica is the type of professor that has interesting content, but a weird grading system. Big heads up, you want to use CampS when checking your grades cause the one on Canvas will kinda falsely get your hopes up. The great thing about Dr. Bica though is that she is always willing to help you if you don't understand anything.
Her class is more work than my capstone. Before every class, we have reading responses that are at least 10 questions, but she expects a lot of writing on them to get a 10/10. Furthermore, she has 3 HUGE projects that we have to do: lead class one day, challenge stereotypes in our lives, and a research project. Going to class gets you extra credit.
Lori Bica is a very knowledgeable professor! Her lectures are always interesting and include important info for the tests. Her class does have quite a bit of homework, but it is not too hard. DO THE STUDY GUIDES!!!! If you do the study guides, tests are easy!
Dr. Bica is a very flexible and empathetic professor! She helps break down important concepts and also reassures with everyone before she moves on with her lecture. She also lets you know what is specifically expected on exams. Lastly, fill out very detailed study guides and take good notes from lectures cause THEY WILL ALWAYS BE ON THE EXAMS!!!
Honestly professor Bica isnt terrible but in this class there is roughly 2-3 assignments every week and you have to read the text book. Her tests are a little bit on the hard side. She also will not be hesitant to give you a 0.
If you like memorizing pages upon pages of notes for exams, this prof is for you. There is barely any lecture content besides the study guides you have to do, which can take hours to complete. If you don't do the guides, the only grades will be your exams and two projects. Would not recommend or take again.
This is by far the worst class I have ever taken. Dr. Bica is a very knowledgeable professor but the structure of the course is one of the worst I've seen! Everyone was basically unclear about the assignments and she makes us submit work during weekends like GIVE ME A BREAK.
All of the outside of class homework was then just repeated in class for an hour and a half. Didn't show up half the time and got a B, the homework is extra credit but LOTS of work. Tough grader on exams but projects are easy. Just got repetitive in lecture when it came to material.
This class with Dr. Bica was very hard. We had several exams that were extremely hard even if you studied, she just has you focus on too much information. She gives you an optional study guide per week to fill out, which forces you to read through the chapters. Her lectures are good to take notes but are very boring. Do the study guides-ex. credit!
Bica was a great professor. Her lectures are insightful, and I recommend you show, however it's not required. The tests were pretty straight forward and were never too difficult. Study guides were given often, every few days, but to be fair they helped with the tests. Overall, good professor who I recommend, especially for Psych 100.
I liked Bica, she was friendly and lectures weren't too boring. It was a weird layout for all the assignments and it was kind of confusing, and she was also a bit of a tough grader on them. Exams were pretty easy though if you did all the study guides and took notes on everything. Overall a good class and I recommend for psyc 100.
Lectures are extremely boring & the study guides take hours to complete. I was so excited to take psych this semester but I have absolutely hated it. 10/10 do not recommend.
She is very knowledgeable of her teachings and is very passionate about many topics. The study guilds really helped me study for the test but were very tough on grading them. Tests are primarily multiple-choice. Miss a class and it's difficult to get caught up.
"Consider dropping this course if you have a heavy work schedule or other strong time commitments." This class is wayyyy too much work for 3 credits. 22 reading guides that take about 2-3 hours each if you want a halfway decent grade that is graded by your peers anyways. AVOID! Not worth it.
Her lectures were good, very good visual aids. At the beginning of the school year she isn't very clear on the optional assignments. The study guides are a lot of work, lots of book work to do with this course. If you want to be successful then do EVERY study guide in depth. use flash cards for tests for terms and concepts. visual aids for diagrams
Bica doesn't do much teaching, she lets the textbook do most of the work for her. The study guides are long and monotonous and it seems like there is an exam every week. Every exam I feel like I am significantly underprepared because again, she does not teach anything. It is a very "learn it yourself" type of class. I do not recommend.
Professor Bica was very kind and seemed to be very passionate about her work and field of study. Lectures didnt seem to be exactly "mandatory" but I feel as if I didn't show to every lecture, I'd fall behind immediately. Exams were slightly difficult; you definitely have to know your stuff.
10/10 recommend! She makes the class extremely easy by giving you choice assignments, they take about 30 min to complete and they are very helpful! The grade you get falls completely on you, just do the work and you will get an A, she gives you all the information and material you would need for the test. Must got o class or you will miss stuff.
I really liked this class, it was my first psychology class but she's very good at explaining so it made it very easy. All you have to do is do the assignments which are very easy and show up for class and you'll do well.
I did not like dr. Bica. she only went over the study guide in class and she would just ramble and ramble if someone asked a question. she was not forgiving about late work at all and if you missed class, she would not help you out.
Dr. Bica is super nice!! I really enjoy her as a person but she usually doesn't give that much important info in lecture. She usually goes over study guides which are ESSENTIAL to doing well in this class. As long as you complete all of the study guides, you're set for the exams. No final cumulative exam.
This class was not anything special. Lots of textbook readings and somedays were heavy in lectures. It was easy to get points on the assignments. Lots of notes in class. If you don't study you won't pass the test. I had to study at least 4 days before, lots of subject matter on one test with a ton of memorization of concepts.
Dr. Bica was a great professor. Lectures were sometimes boring but usually worth going to. She will tell you to do the study guides ("optional" homework) and if you follow that advice and study with them, tests will not be a problem. There's a study guide to do every few days (usually several questions). Dr. Bica is pretty helpful outside of class!
I like Dr. Bica. People act like she didn't make the study guides for you. They REALLY help, they support her lectures, and they are also extra credit. Do them, then the class is not that hard. I got a B on every test and passed the class with an A+ because of the guides. Lots of reading but it gives you project ideas. Do creative stuff: more fun.
Overall, Professor Bica is really nice. The weekly study guides are all "optional" but doing them allows you to receive all homework points, and they really prepare you for exams. This class is technology free for those who are used to taking notes on a laptop, but the lectures are easy to follow, so taking notes on paper for this course is easy.
Dr. Bica seems very passionate about the topics, but the work for this class excessive. Homework takes >2 hours to complete 2x a week. She makes students grade others because she is too busy to do it herself. She relies only on students reading and completing the homework to teach them things and this class is only discussions about the homework.
Overall, I enjoyed psyc336, but be aware that this is an extremely difficult and involved course. Prep guides are assigned 2x a week and take about 2-4 hours to complete. The course discusses relevant topics that can be emotionally taxing, especially for a person that belongs to any underrepresented group. Also, Dr Bica rarely responds to emails.
Bica assigns 1-2 study guides per week and they are so long, but they are extra credit and help prepare you for the exam. Her exams are often so you don't have to memorize too much info which is nice. Sadly, her lectures are boing, and I skipped her lectures often because I wanted to fall asleep. She is really nice, just not my favorite.
Dr. Bica was a great experience. She cared about the success of all her students. This course is mildly difficult, but she makes it easy with the plentiful extra credit by doing the study guides. SHE GIVES YOU FREE POINTS FOR STUDYING. Do them!! Questions on the tests come straight from the study guides. She grades easy on the 2 projects assigned.
Dr. Bica is very knowledgable in the subject. Her lectures are hard to sit through - but I recommend going to them. Study guides take at least up to 3 hours. Definitely not an easy class, but learned a lot.
lots of study guides and lectures were a little pointless
The study guides are the most important aspect of this class. There is one every week and it is not optional if you want to do well. Her lectures were almost always just going over the study guide, which was annoying and time wasting. Be prepared to teach yourself. Not too difficult but way too much work for an intro class.
Bica is really nice, she is understanding when things happen with submissions, READ THE TEXTBOOK and do all the study guides they prepare you really well for exams, lectures are good at elaborating on the study guides, presents organized schedule and gives you study guides for the exam and outlines which are great. attendance not mandatory but go!
A kind soul. Clearly passionate, very knowledgeable. Not perfect, and a little tough as a grader, but always happy to help and discuss outside of class
Professor Bica is a very nice and understanding but the class itself I would not recommend. If you do not do the readings or the study guides it will really hurt, you. Tests did not make much sense.
Extreme knowledge on the topic, questions answered in highly digestible way
Very knowledgeable on the topics and gives really great examples that help make confusing topics make sense
The assignments were well worded/explained well and clearly. If there were any slight confusions, it would be addressed immediately.
Knows course topics well and is friendly and nice to all students. Communicates well with information for class and exams and also organizes and prepares everything well also.
Dr. Bica is well prepared for class, very knowledgable/passionate and always very happy/welcoming to students.
Communications and clarifications were great and she gives really helpful feedback. The assignments were very organized and easy to follow.
The way the readings are broken up with the study guides really helped with my preperation for this class. The organization of everything in Canvas helps a lot.
Bica makes good connections with students in and out of class. Very organized and prepared, lots of knowledge and able to expand via questions.
I really enjoyed this class. Bica lectures very well and coming to class was a valuable use of my time (compared to other classes that use a textbook this heavily). Communication was very clear and relationship with students was as good as it can be in such a big class. Classes were always organized and prepared, we covered all expected content.
Dr. Bica depends a lot on very long study guides but they are extra credit and not graded. I would recommend doing them because the lectures are focused on them and so are the exams. She is very nice and gives good feedback to every assignment you submit. She is good at answering all questions whether in class or through email.
Literally tricks students on the exams with extremely difficult and vague questions. Without Canvas, I wouldn't have known about Free Choice or Required assignments, as they weren't mentioned in class. Time wasted on unrelated discussions, like a 30-minute rant about Arby's, making attendance feel pointless. We only get through ~2 slides per class.
Dr. Bica is a really sweet person, but her lectures are painfully boring. Would regularly be lulled to sleep. She expects you to learn most of the content from the multiple study guides she gives out, which is fair enough. Can not stress how boring her lectures are though, especially when nobody in your class participates.
This class is basically self taught. You have a certain amount of study guides you have to complete for points but do them all otherwise the exams will be impossible. All you do is read the textbook. No final for the class which is a plus!
Do NOT take if you want a easy professor. This class is very self taught. Her lectures are extremely boring and you get through maybe 4 slides a class. All you do is read the text book and take notes on study guides and that is how you study for the exams. She is really sweet, just not the best class if you struggle with teaching yourself.
I'll start this off by saying Lori Bica is an awesome person and teacher, but this class has a shit load reading and homework, a majority of your time during the week is going to be spent reading and doing the guides, go into the class with an open mind and participate in class discussions
This class with Dr. Bica requires a ton of your time and effort. It seems as if she thinks her class is the only class we are taking during a semester. The homework (reading guides) will take you at least 2-4 hours on each one and there are 2 a week. Overall, I don't recommend. It is not worth taking up 8-10 hours of your week.
Although the readings were interesting and informative, Professor Bica assigns homework that takes HOURS to complete. She has students grade the homework and make powerpoints, so you will spend 4 hours on an assignment just for it to be graded by someone else in your class. Overall, this class is not worth the amount of homework you have to do.
Dr. Bica is kind and wants her students to succeed. She explains things well and is very educated. She only requires reading and study guides, which directly connect to the exams, so really not hard at all. Attendance is not mandatory, and she does not take it; however, if you miss class, she requires you to receive the notes from a classmate.
I took PSYC 336 in the same semester as PSYC 401, and Bica's class was way more difficult than my capstone class. Let that sink in...
Horrible class will not take it again- this course is test based only so get ready to study and must complete the study guide which dont match up with the tests. BIca doesnt care if you fail it is on you
My favorite professor. Very knowledgeable in the subject, loves her work. Such a nice teacher. Her class was super interesting and kept me engaged.
I loved taking psych 100 with Dr Bica, she really cares and wants her students to succeed. Her lectures do get very boring but are worth it to attend as theres little things she says that can prepare you for an exam. No cumulative final which is awesome and an overall great class. She knows what she's talking about and an overrall wonderful lady.
This class is very assignment-heavy heavy with 1-2 due each class, but not hard, just time-consuming and most seeming off-topic. She is very organized and approachable. While she is not the best for those with accommodations, she allowed me to take exams in a different space, but gave pushback on my online note-taking per my accommodations.
Her approach to answering questions and concerns was lovely and impressive. I really appreciated the organized lectures.
I really liked the study guides and how they prepared me for exams. Amazing professor, always answered questions, was nice & treated everyone fairly, and overall always prepared and organized.
I really enjoyed all of the topics, everyone in the class was super nice, overall an amazing course and Professor Lori made it super helpful to learn.
I like the organization of the class and the ability to choose which assignments worked best for me.
She is giving so much homework, which are irrelevant to the course. Don't show up to class and expect to learn something, she runs off topic and tells meaningless stories. If you value your gpa, run as far as you can.
