good teacher, extra credit, but projects
She's really nice && easy to get along with. Gives very detailed notes && examples. She gives you a 10 point in class pre-test the day before the class which counts for the first 10 points of the test..then 10 points extra credit after the test. You also randomly get ec for attending certain days. Very easy to get a good grade :)
Easy teacher. Some of the class is a little hard but she goes over everything you need to know. I suggest that you GO to class and take notes. She is very helpful. A lot of extra credit is given. Show up!
BEST MATH TEACHER EVER!
Very nice and helpful, sometimes a little strange..you can use notes and homework on quizes so i suggest you do it. you have a review before the test and u work in groups to write down problems on the board. make sure you copy them down and study because they are usually the ones that show up on the test. good class. would suggest her!
By far one of the best math teachers there is.She will make sure that you understand everything before moving on. Teaches her way instead of the confusing textbook which is very helpful. There are a ton of points that she gives out for in class. She helps you to not only pass the class but understand the material.
one of the best teachers ever..will make you understand all the material without trying to get rid of you...she is very compassionate about her teaching and the class is not test dependent...as long as you attend her class and she knows that your trying then she will take care of you and anyone who gets lower then a B is just lazy..lots of E.C too
I absolutely hate math & I had to take this class for my elementary education major. I loved Prf. Chapman she's a really nice professor and she's very excited about math. She was always more than willing to help answer any of my ?'s & she gave E.C. opportunities for coming to review days b4 tests and E.C. assignments after each test.Good teacher!
Amazing teacher! Soo good at what she does. Go to class! Get points for being there! Do the extra credit! Go to test reviews, you will help write the test. Its such a good class for people who dont like math too much. Shes very very helpful.
The most amazing math teacher ever. Im bad at math but mrs. chapman made it easy for everyone. Shes always there when you need her. She gives you so much extra credit and the questions on the test review is what usually is on the test. Over all she is the best teacher ever I got a B+ Highly recommended.
She is a nice teacher that wants everyone to do well. She gives lots of extra credit which is overkill if you are good at math, but if you aren't it is a good extra boost.
Very easy teacher. Grades very easy and gives a lot of extra credit. Sometimes she will give you answers on tests. She is helpful and concerned about her student's needs. If you need to take a math class take it with her.
She is a very nice professor. Always willing to help.
The best!
She's one of the best professors I've had. Her notes are easy to follow and her tests are right from the homework. She's one of the nicest people and she's always willing to help the students out.
Great teacher! Doesn't make math intimidating or scary. Wants you to learn and be confident. Take her, you will really like her!
Chapman is THE professor to take for Calc 2. The course is difficult, but her lectures, notes, and reviews make it totally possible to achieve an A. She offers a lot of extra credit and is very approachable if you're having troubles with the course. The thing is- you can't fall behind on the homework and you can't miss any lectures.
Ok, everyone is talking about how awesome Chapman is because it's an easy A class - which most people can't say for Calc 2. Honestly though, I didn't learn anything. I and everyone else who took her went into Calc 3 blind. You're better off working hard for a B with another professor. If you only need to go up to Calc 2 then take her. Lol.
Very nice and clear. As long as you show up to class, you will pass. Willing to help and repeat. She does expect class participation make sure you are vocal. Awesome experiance!
great professor, take notes on her lectures. sometimes extra credit will be from a note problem. DO THE HOMEWORK! the quizzes will help your grade because you can use your notebook. if you are stuck on a section, use khanacademy.com for videos and cramster.com & calcchat.com for homework problems worked out. and most importantly, COME ON REVIEW DAY
The material is not easy, its a great feeling to have a teacher that doesn't try to intimidate you with their own additives. This teacher is what I needed; I think she can help anyone feel comfortable learning 1770.No matter how tuff or easy a class is, you will only retain what you decide to learn not what the teacher requires you to test out of
best math teacher you can have. nice. gives extra credit. gives partial credit on tests. no mandatory homework. my average on the test after EC was a 100
Shes just plain awesome....love her laugh....class is not a walk in the park so be prepared to study, make sure to do problems in the book ( at least a couple to make sure you understand the material) other than that you should be fine
Such an amazing teacher! I absolutely hate math but having her teach it made me like it. She offers extra credit with each test and has 10 point in-class assignments that help boost your grade! I ended up getting a 3.7 in this class and I know I wouldn't have done so well if I had another teacher. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND HER.
Best math teacher I've ever had. I always struggle with math but she is EXTREMELY helpful and relates math concepts to real-life situations to make it easier to understand.
Extremely helpful and always available. She actually tied math to volunteer activities, and we had a BLAST! Nice to look at too.
greatttt teacher!! wants you to do good!!
I think so many use this site that, like voting, those reluctant and introverted people should make their voices heard to get a better representative sample of the population. Professor Chapman is a natural teacher. Computation is stressed over proof, which I think is important at this level. The proof is in the book. Out a room to say more good th
ings, extremely helpful and an extremely nice person. She went way out of her way to help me on innumerable occasions. I like how proofs weren't stressed. They usually don't make sense to me. I think that comes later on. It's unnerving watching a teacher go through proofs that you don't get, then leaving you on your own with the computational.
The best math teacher i have had yet. Extremely helpful and always has a good, positive, attitude. Very lenient on making up quizzes and grading them. Would strongly recommend this teacher to anyone else! One downside is she is a little slow when it comes to grading.
This professor is awesome! I have struggled in math getting along with D's all my life until she came along. As long as you show up for the class everyday for the quizzes and notes you will definitely get an A. She is by far the best math professor ever.
I don't see what all the fuss is about. Professor Chapman moves quickly through lecture, often confusing students rather than helping them. Her quizzes are 10 points but are only 2 questions leaving room for failure. I walked away from this class with an A but I would never take another math class with her.
Honestly everything i ask in a professor.... Great great great explainer & helper... Go to class, pay attention, do the hw... Youll get an A... Its simple... Shes not rly a blowoff but she gives extra credit n she grades kindly so u shud end up with a decent grade if you try!
Great teacher. She explains everything clearly as long as you go to class and take notes. She is an easy grader and will give you 100% if something is slightly wrong. She is very cooperative and willing to help. I suggest her to everyone!
Very nice professor, extremely kind-hearted. She taught Calculus in a succinct manner and did not waste time. She cares very much for each of her students. Her tests are quite easy, just do a few problems from the book. She gives an INSANE amount of extra credit. You can have a B average on her tests and get an A in the class.
she is a great person & i love her laugh. i took her for calc1 and i loved her, i understood everything just by studying the notes. but i had her for calc2 and when the material got harder, she was harder to follow. she is an easy teacher for calc1 but she doesn't explain it good enough for calc2 & doesn't prepare you for any harder classes.
Awesome teacher if you struggle with math. Teaches step by step, does not expect you to just get it like most teachers. For 0070, daily simple quizzes, tests are 15 ?'s multiple choice except for final. I highly recommend her, I'm even switching to South Campus because that's where shell be teaching 1000. And yes her laugh is awesome haha
Professor Chapman is one of the best math teachers I've ever had. I do NOT like math, but this is one class I enjoy going to. If you attend every class and take good notes you can get and A or B. She explains things well and gives great examples to help you understand concepts. Tests are short and never confusing. AWESOME lady. Very reasonable.
wonderful teacher wish i could take her for the rest of my math classes. very clear and concise. shes very thorough and does plenty of examples. grades were based on 5 quizes, 5 inclass assignments, 4 tests and one cumulative final. the quizzes and inclass work are open note and taken from the previous homework. take her you wont regret it!
Great Teacher! The work can be a little challenging if you wait till the last second to do the MyMathLab work, but other than that it's pretty simple. Just take notes and pay attention and you have yourself an A.
GREAT GREAT TEACHER!!!! I WOULD SO RECOMMEND HER!!!!
I thought the class was fairly easy. You have to know what your doing which should be hard if you have a good memory. We had like 20 quizzes where we could use our notes the tests weren't that hard. With all that said I got a B in the class.
The tests are not hard or easy so medium. There was a quiz everyday until the last weeks of the semester. The final was kinda hard, a lot of formulas and stuff to remember. Not a great professor but good
A lot of quizzes that are short and the tests could be hard at time since she doesn't give any study guides.
Awesome professor. I am awful at math and she is the reason I passed both classes. In math 70 you get a 10 point quiz everyday and your tests and exam is multiple choice . math 1000 you are allowed to use your noted and homework on the daily 10 pt quiz tests and exam is short answer. LOVED HER. attendance isn't mandatory but there is a daily quiz
shes really nice and caring her teaching is very good and easy to understand, easy tests quizzes easy grader i would say do the assignments though
I love Mrs. Chapman! I would take again. Very clear on material, she teaches in a way where you understand the material so much better. She basically dumbs it down for you. Quiz everyday but super easy questions from the homework. As long as u do your homework and pay attention and show up for class you'll be good! Easy A as Long as you do ur part
I have always been a terrible math student. I have taken math classes with numerous professors and have failed miserably. Chapman was wonderful and I received an A. Her online class is tough though -- if you are not a strong math student I do not recommend an online math class.
Amazing professor! :) Take her!! Took this for Elem. Ed program. I'm HORRIBLE at math and I did so well in this course. She is SO nice, helpful, and understanding. Emails back within a couple hours! :) Would definitely take again. :) Did not use the text much, but you do need to buy the access code---which is a pain.
Truly a kind, helpful professor. She has realistic, down to earth expectations & keeps the students' best interest at heart. She even learned my name even though I did all of the work through MyMathLab and basically only went to class for the exams! I despise math classes, but if I needed another, I'd register with professor Chapman in a heartbeat!
She is a awsome teacher. She gives a quiz everyday, yet all the quizzes pro are in the homework. Plus, she allows student using their note, so it is very easy. Also her test is similar to the quiz, and hw. Absolutely recommend taking her class
By far the worst math teacher I have ever taken before. She does not teach the class, or give any notes. You go to class to take a two question quiz and leave. She gives online homework that can be very difficult at times. She does not prepare you for any of her tests. I would not recommend anyone to take her class.
Chapman is a great professor. She lets you make up tests and quizzes and offers a lot of extra credit. Each quiz is worth one point. You can retake the quiz for extra credit. She offers up to 74 extra credit points. Homework is optional but highly recommended to prepare you for the quizzes and tests. Can't use a calculator on the final exam.
I don't really recommend taking professor chapman UNLESS you are GOOD at math and can teach yourself. Her lectures are videos that you watch online at home, you go into class to take a two question quiz and leave. The class is weighted on your four tests, which are NOT multiple choice, and you are NOT ALLOWED to use a CALCULATOR on the FINAL exam.
If you're good at teaching yourself math, go ahead and take this class.. She does not teach the class. You go to class to take a five minute quiz, but if you need help, you stay after and do your homework. All graded homework was online. Textbook is needed for quizzes. The tests were difficult because I taught myself but she was an easy grader.
It would be nice if she were more thorough with her lessons. Math is my weakest subject and I have to agree with other students in that I feel I have to teach myself since the hmk given to us covers a lot of material that we DID NOT go over in class at all. I'll have to make regular visits to a tutor. Crossing my fingers for the semester...
Do not take this class unless you want to completely teach yourself. Her online lectures are the worst and she even corrects herself in the videos. If you are trying to learn something you cannot learn from someone who makes mistakes and at times does not seem to understand. Our attendance is mandatory but she can post an announcement once a week.
Take math with another professor. Not helpful. There was also a no calculator rule for our final which I found very odd since we are doing "math". When you have to use the "log" button and round to the nearest millionth decimal, there is no way for it to be done without a calculator. I will not be taking another math class with her as my professor.
Most of class time was spent going over online homework. I had to teach myself how to do the homework because of how brief and vague the lectures were. Not allowed to use a calculator on the final. I didn't use my book, only the access code for homework. All homework is unlocked again at the end of the semester and can be completed for full credit
Awesome
She's great, replies to emails quickly, and will help you as much as she can. I wish I could have taken her for an in class meeting and not an online class.
I had Dr. Chapman for Calc 1. She was testing a new method of teaching where the class is based purely on portfolios for each chapter, online homework, and the final. No exams or quizzes. I can honestly say this was one of the best classes I have ever had. I was able to learn, without sweating for the upcoming exam or quiz. I loved Dr. Chapman.
she is a great, I loved calc1 beacuse of her. she is the best. I absolutely recommended her.
Professor Chapman is great as a person, but her method of teaching was ineffective. This semester, she decided to try a new system using "portfolios" which were more or less an outline ever every chapter/section. It was a lot of work to keep up on and the class was difficult without any prior knowledge. I have never done so terribly in a class.
She makes you read the book and outline the chapter after she goes over it in class, which was a great help for me. The bad thing about her was that she uses Webassign rather than MyMathLab. Her lectures were not mandatory but were a lot better than reading the poorly written book.
I am very good at math and I struggled with Professor Chapman. She doesnt take the time to explain if you have questions and if she doesnt know how to help she just tells you you need to see the tutors!
8 week math 0070 online. liked that she gave 3 tries on quizzes and exams. 45 or so total assignments. flexibility of due dates was great at first but came back to haunt me when I let the work get behind. Teaching method was OK. had to watch a few of the lectures 2 or 3 times to get it. crammed an 8 week class into the last 2 weeks and got a 75%.
I am very good when it comes to math. However i just passed by because professor chapman, although nice, doesnt know how to teach! When asked questions she just repeats herself and doesnt know how to put in different words for the class to understand. When the entire class did bad on the test she yelled at us.
Chapman is not out to "get you." Great teacher. If you do the practice problems in MindTap (MT), understand them, you will pass the class. Homework is based off online presentation. Her tests are very similar to MT homework (HW). Practice the MT skill builders (dots) and HW--that is your best preparation. Do her final exam review!!!
The lab class I took was only mandatory to attend on test days, but Chapman was available in the lab for any assistance if you chose to work there. She gives great feedback and the tests are very easy. This is coming from someone who has never been good at math. If you are not motivated to do the work on your own, then do not take the online class.
Online class, so Chapman was more a facilitator. Class reviews math from Intermediate Algebra & accounting/finance/marketing. Homework is easy--there are lots of resources (book, online material). Tests are based on HW questions. Do the final exam review! Save money and buy online course access code, unless you like reading from a book.
I can't stress this enough, TAKE HER ONLINE CLASS. She gives little homework and the study plan on MyMathLab and the book explain the material, but annuities and interest could be challenging. Final is very simple if you study the review she provides few weeks prior exam day, and you can schedule over a Friday or Saturday I believe. Best class ever
Great teacher, homework as fairly easy, the notes she did were scanned and uploaded in canvas. Her exams are straight forward to the point. Also, she implements group work which is nice and the option for writing an essay as a substitute for doing a test. She also explains the concepts super clearly. One of the best calculus teachers there is.
Its a lot of work, but its because its condensed into 8 weeks online instead of the normal 16. i found it relatively easy if you take good notes on the examples you can view. you go at your own pace but she does give a pacing guide. its easy to fall behind because of no due dates so beware. 9 tests and a ton of quizzes is all you get graded on.
Took her for online Statistics, she is very organized and I loved the set up and learned really well. The practice problems you could try countless times and it would show you how to work the problem out. Great way to learn math. Hard class but you can do it if you don't get behind!!! You need to do a chapter per week, trust me!
I took her 1360 online and her presence was slight. The PowerPoints were not that helpful, only screenshots from the book. Pretty much taught myself in this course and to me, there is nothing wrong. Not many so homework and tests can be a little tricky. The final exam is the same kind as the review handed in the first class, only numbers change.
I adore this amazing professor she is sooooooo good helpful and no words can describe her
Great professor, online class is amazing, test due every 2 weeks and you have 2 weeks to work on your own time to completed.
If you're an independent student, Chapman is an independent professor. They don't talk unless needed, and most of the work is up to the student to decide and schedule themselves. Some student may not like this style. They will answer any questions if you contact. The online class was only graded on quizzes and tests, the homework is extra credit.
I really loved this class because it contained a flexible schedule. I found this course so easy and you will too. Definitely recommend Professor Chapman for every Math class.
Very understanding and compassionate professor.
Professor Chapman is a very fun prof. She post lecture vides that align with the hw sections and she shortens them into smaller sections so the video arent so long. If you struggle with the homework take advantage of the free tutoring and this class is an easy A (I would have an A). Only 4 test and the final as well a newton hw every section.
they are very polite and understanding!! the work is not hard, as long as you put time into it :p
She was so kind to us. She talked with us about the problems we had in math and she worked them out in front of us. She left us in the dark about nothing. She gave us all of the tools we needed for every test and homework. If you need to undersatnd Math you better take her. Everthing was clear! She never stepped out of being a human being . Thanks
Professor Chapman is the best nicest Professor I ever had, she will always help you and make sure you understand the material. The class is on a easy flexible schedule and I would definitely recommend to take Professor Chapman again !
I would recommend Professor Chapman to anyone needing Calculus 1. They not only had great weekly lectures on course material, but pre-recorded ones should you need the extra help. Also, a portion of the homework points counts for extra credit. Homework in Knewton was somewhat time consuming, but was more than helpful for test preparation.
I had Professor Chapman for beginning algebra and they are a great professor! I recommend watching the videos and you’ll pass this class with flying colors
Overall, probably one of the high-level math professors. Repeated this calc 2x and she made it way easier to understand than my previous prof. If you are having a hard time, they are always ready to help.
Just do the work and you will pass.....
I took this professor during an online class and there is clear grading criteria in the syllabus from the beginning of the class. Since it was an online class, Professor Chapman didn't get involved much but answered messages around a day later. Try taking this class with a lecture, I had to teach myself a majority of the material.
Great professor. I took the online 8 week course. There was a worksheet and quiz for each unit, usually two each week. I watched the videos she provided and did the notes and found the worksheets and quizzes to be easy. Also a test each week which was straightforward and a reflection (easy points). Final exam was also easy if you do your work.
Excellent teacher! Wish they would teach higher ed math!
This class was by far the easiest math class I have taken. The grading is based on homework, attendance, and exams. For the homework, you get practically unlimited tries to get the answer so there is no reason why you should not get 100%. Great professor who cares about all students.
Very amazing honestly and I would take this professor for future math classes. Was very understanding about some issues and tried to help. Textbook was also our workbook. Wasn't a harsh grader at all. We did 2 projects for the semester. Projects were not difficult at all.
Favorite Math professor I ever had! They/them responds in timely manner and very understanding. Only required to be in person for the final exam. Have access to a pratice final exam packet, I believe around the 4th week of class. Plenty of time to review and study!
This professor is amazing. They truly care about their students. They give plenty of time with all of the homework assignments. Also, you have the chance the retake ALL of your exams for a better score. I am taking them again for statistics because they are great. TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!
Math isn't the favorite subject of many, but I think they teaches it as well as you can. If you pay attention and follow along they really does explain the material well, and it's clear they wants you to succeed and are very accommodating towards that end. I just wish I understood the material better so I could've asked them more questions.
for an 8 week class get ready for assignments! you mostly use the textbook, get the hardcover, and the videos to help out a lot. teacher isnt really involved much but if you ask for help you get it. 10 question quiz after each chapter and 25 question test, + assignments. it was a lot but it wasnt hard even if you forgot all your high school math
Good Prof, Odd at times but overall wants you to do well in the class.
Actually wants you to learn, and is very understanding!
They are great. They offer extra credit . They are super helpful when you have questions. Put in the work, you will get a good grade.
Professor Chapman is the best! Such a kind and caring teacher. Offers extra credit and relates to those of us that struggle with math.
Lori Chapman is an amazing professor. I took the class online however they were easily accessible and quick to reply to emails. They are very caring and kind.
Sends out tons of homework and stuff that does not help at all just busy work that is annoying. Has long lecture videos that do not help only, and the notes barely have any good info only good thing is the practice tests that help you teach yourself. The text book makes no sense is just reading with minimal hands on work.
Professor Chapman is very helpful and loves to help out when needed. The lectures were really nice and understanding.
This professor was awesome. I enjoyed this class. I learned a lot, some of the stuff that will help me for my everyday life currently. Professor Chapman lessons are easy to follow and well organized. Assignments are not super hard also.
He is very good at teaching math. All the tests are exactly/similar to the ones he gives as assignments. He also posts videos online if you miss his class. He answers straightforwardly to any question asked by students. He is also kind and respectful.
I read a bunch of good things about this professor but I don't have many good things to say. Responds to messages very slow. I asked her for some help but she told me to go to tutoring. Wouldn't recommend for an online class.
Professor Chapman is, hands down, the best math instructor I have had so far in college. The ability to break down challenging topics and make them approachable for all students-regardless of background-is an incredible ability. Transferring to Oakland University, I felt incredibly well-prepared due to the solid foundation Prof. provided.
Professor Chapman is by far the best math professor anyone could as for. Attendance wasn't mandatory but there were in class assignments every day that you could only do if present. He gave a ton of extra credit and detailed notes. The exam was very similar to the other tests he gave.
Professor Chapman is an amazing math teacher. They make the subject more accessible and are very accommodating. Watching the online videos and using resources like unstuck study really help prepare for this class. Definitely take this professor if you can!
Great professor! The assignments are not difficult as long its completed on time.
Professor Chapman was very informative and gave good opportunities for extra credit. The recorded walkthroughs of each chapter were very helpful.
