So chill. Homework always due on thursdays apart from the major papers...which are "1+ pages" so they are more like a quick brainstorm than anything serious and she grades really easy as long as you follow her guidelines..always quote the reading and you'll get an A, but it has to be sensible and relevant to the argument...
This class is so hard because we have to read book and response it every week. You have to make your response paper at least 1 page single space. moreover there is a community service too, you have to work in the community 12 hours
EASY CLASS! no tests at all!! hwk is to write a 1 pg response on topics provided. final is a compassionate listening overview on interviews which u conduct throughout the quarter. attendance is mandatory.
Response paper every Thursday based on readings. Reading both books are mandatory if you want a good grade on the response papers. She's not that bad, but I wouldn't want to take it again even if I was guaranteed an A.
She's really nice, very lenient. The class isn't very interesting though. The online assignments are tedious but easy. Plus she gives alot of extra cred.
She is a very lovely teacher. Do all of the online posts and engage in class and you'll do well.
This class is easy only if you can demonstrate critical thinking. It should be something you're genuinely interested in and passionate about. Otherwise, if you're just filling in GE reqs and have no concern for social sciences, I would advise against it. Dr. Clinchard changed my life, my perspective in a drastic way. I am forever grateful.
She's hilarious! I just had her this quarter (Spring 13) and she's very passionate about what she does. She cares about students on a personal level and has a sense of general justice that I like. She's just got a very cute personality. And she definitely knows her stuff.
She is very knowledgeable and very nice. I really enjoyed her class and learning about new religions. Her class discussions are interesting and will challenge you to think. She is a great teacher! =)
Great teacher benefiting man kind
She's super super nice and the course work is fairly easy since it basically off the books, the in-class lectures she gives, and your own opinion on the matters. This class is a super easy A.
Lori is a great teacher, she's so sweet :) I loved her classes, especially Creative Minds. DON'T MISS OUT! Also, books are mandatory! You will be constantly using them, so be sure to get them right away. 10 discussion questions a week, it's not bad at all.
Before the class started I just thought "another boring GE class" but I actually ended up enjoying Lori's class. For one, Lori is SUPER nice. I mean she's just such a nice and educated woman, I really respect her. Her class is simple, discussion in class, read book, and answer questions. Easy A if you keep up with all the work. Highly recommended!
Lori is an overthinker, and it comes it out in her lecturing, which can occasionally lead to drawn out points, BUT! That is her only downfall. She makes most of the class incredibly riveting and is a kind endearing person. I got 99% in the class and didnt even do the extra credit assignment. I would recommend her to anyone.
How to get an A: Attend every lecture, and each week do the assigned reading and online discussion posts. No quizzes or exams. I love how the class is structured and is not stressful at all. She focuses on how we can apply the class material to help benefit our everyday life. Very easy class AND informative. Plus, Lori is just so nice. Take her!
SERIOUSLY SHE IS THE BEST TEACHER I EVER HAD! She is truly passionate about teaching. Throughout the quarter she became a very good friend. She motivates her students to become open-minded. If you have any problems with understanding the material go to her, she will definitely help you out. Oh did I already mention she is the most nicest person.
This is by far the best and easiest class I have ever take in my entire life. Although most of the students who take this class come to slack off and take it for granted, I took a lot from the lectures and books we were assigned and it has changed my overall perspective on the human mind. It's an easy A but I took it serious and got way more back.
Online summer class is basically reading, answering discussion questions, replying to 3 others people's discussion posts,&one final essay at the end.Your responses should be deep and thorough but it is not hard to do that, especially with the type of reading that you do. Really enjoyed her class! Professor C is amazing! :) Highly recommend!! EASY A!
She seriously is the best professor De Anza Got, added to my list of fav teachers, she made it soooo fun that i was excited for her class unlike my other ones
This class isn't very difficult, but be prepared to do a lot of writing. They are stylistically informal because they are more like reflective writing. It is an easy A if you just spend quality time on the papers. She isn't a tough grader, but if you put in no effort, expect to get a low grade. She's very nice and friendly! Total of 4 papers.
Professor Clinchard is such a sweet and helpful professor. She wants her students to succeed and gives many opportunities to get an A. She offers extra credit which is amazing and doesn't give a lot of HW. I recommend her class for Creative Minds and Comparative religion which is HUMI 9. Also she has her office hours to stop by and have teasnack.
Super nice lady. Every 3 weeks you turn in a packet of response questions from books and lectures. Interesting class, not boring at all. 2 books required. Take her she is awesome!
Do yourself a favor and take this professor! She truly cares and will help you if you need it. So glad I signed up
This class was really easy, and the professor is very nice and happy. There are books required to be read every week and a lot of writing. She likes to have students participate and speak up in class. Note taking is recommended in the class and there are lots of videos that she shows in class.
She's an amazing professor. She really cares about you and helps you when you need it. I visited her office hours once just to talk about what problems I had and she listened and helped me out. Besides that, her class is amazing. You learn a lot in this class and take a lot out of it even after you're done.
At the beginning i was a bit worry about the question reflections coz I had to write a lot for my other classes. But after the first try I could handle it and do better. Professor Lori is a great storyteller for humanity. And I can say confidently her lecture can change your mind to other people and the contemporary society as well.
Very good lectures! Gives extra credit.
She's awesome. Please just take her. It's not at all hard.
Just attend class, doesn't matter if you're late or not. I never bought the book, found it online, but expect essay writing and a lot of reading. Also gives easy extra credit. Her classes are fun and worth the time. She is friendly and makes it interesting. Easy grader, gives points just for doing the work. She takes attendance. Final is take home
Yes, my rating for this teacher is really good, but don't be fooled. This class seriously sucked the life force out of me. It was an incredibly easy A, but the lectures were brutal. I hated sitting through lessons that I really didn't care about or agree with every day. There's a lot of work and reading as well. Take at your own risk.
Super easy and very interesting course! No group projects, no tests, homework and readings are easy, and an easy final paper towards the end of the quarter. The most understanding professor I have ever had. She even gives out extra credit, like the class isn't easy enough already. Definitely recommend, easy A for sure!
Loved this class. Lectures are about interesting topics, and assignments are doable. I never felt stressed about this class at all. Had a 100%. Just do your work.
best teacher ever i took this in the summer so it wa lot of work, there was 5-10 discussion questions every week but they were easy questions u answered then respond to 3 other people. no tests quizzes final was a paper not essay u can write freely like ur talking to her not essay style so it wasn't hard I'm a procrastinator but this class was easy
weekly response papers and discussions on turnitin. books can be found online. as long as you finish what she expects you to do, it is an easy A class. she also gives extra credit in class up to 10-15 points. attend classes!! self sign in. sometimes she checks, dont ask a friend to sign in, you might lose 10 pts if she finds out. good luck!
She's great. One of my favourite professors. She is really understanding and yes there's penalty for late work but she's helllla easy. She takes participation points based on attendance but hey she even let's you grade yourself on that. So you can be half honest. JUST TAKE HER. EASY A.
Professor Clinchard really stands out from all of the other professors that I've taken. She genuinely cares about her students and is just an abundant of energy. Her class does get lecture heavy and they do become extremely boring. You do have to buy two books and there's a writing assignment each week. Overall easy A, 6 page essay for final.
This is an easy class, but it requires lots of reading, I mean, boring reading. I didnt enjoy the class; as a science major, I often disagree with her points of view, but the disagreeing and disliking is personal, you might still like her class. Reading response every other week (6+2 chapters from 2 books) personal experiment paper every other week
Lori is a very approachable teacher. She seems to be very nice and caring. However, the material in her lectures are kind of dull and boring in my opinion. Probably because religion is not my major. However, this class was an easy A. Lots of papers in the class but she grades them extremely leniently. Recommended!
I loved her and the material. it doesnt take too much work. It gave me a break form the traditional GE boring courses. Take her! She helps broaden your mind
I loved her and the material. it doesnt take too much work. It gave me a break form the traditional GE boring courses. Take her! She helps broaden your mind about the world and your well being
She's super nice, easy grader. One page paper (double-spaced) and one forum every week, not a lot of work.
Online summer class takes a lot of time and effort. Cover two chapters a week and must post 40 times. Each chapter have 5 questions and for each question you must respond to 3 people's posts. Initial responses due by Thursday night and responses to other students due by Sunday night. Final was 6 pg paper on what you learned & how your views changed
This was an easy A for sure. She grades VERY easy and even gives up to 15 extra credit. Everyone should definitely take her. Her lectures are boring but that might just be me because I'm an accounting major. Just "read" 8 chapters every other week and write a 3+ page response on it. Final paper is 5+ pages which isn't hard at all.
There are no quizzes or exams for this class. Class isn't mandatory, but she does give extra credit every week to students who do show up. All of the homework are papers due online, and the final is also due online. I found her very inspirational, and her lectures gave me more of an open mind towards everything. I would definitely take her again!
All yo do is read and do the papers every week. No exam or quiz. Easy A for sure. I didn't read all but I got A. I actually didn't understand b/c the book is difficult. but she doesn't take points off just because you don't understand. So just write what you think! If you take notes in the class, you don't need to read b/c you see what is about.
loved the way she teaches.
The lecture was wasting of time, and from this quarter the tests were required and difficult.
Professor Clinchard is an amazing teacher and her personality is very motherly but the class was really boring. I'm not one to ditch class a lot, but I skipped this class a lot and I didn't miss out on anything. Whatever she talked about was all in the books we needed for class. Would I recommend this class? Not really.
She is very good at explaining the topics and care about students a lot.
She's such a sweetheart but her class is unfortunately quite boring. Grading is easy, tests are also super easy, she gives a list of questions beforehand and the test comes from that list. 3 Personal Experiments, 3 Midterms, and tons of extra credit. Take her if you want an Easy A!
She is a professor She take attendance mandatory and if you wouldn't like come to class you don't need to come to class You will not be able to learn from her The class and textbook is so boring and is not worth to attend the lecture But super easy to get A
She's a sweetheart although her lectures were kind of boring. A super easy class! I like her personality!
Summer class, there is a whole lot of reading, you practically read this entire 200 or 300 page book that is difficult to understand sometimes. Every week there are about 6 responses to questions due that must be 170 words long. She grades almost every response with perfect scores since she is just happy you're discussing your thoughts in class.
Prof. Lori is the sweetest teacher I have ever be learned from. A lot of people say the topics are boring, but little do they know that they are exactly trying to pull you away from your boring mundane life. Yes, there might be a lot of works, but it is worth it to come to class and bring home something that can change your life.
She's a real sweetheart. She just wants to see effort put. There are essays due at the end of every week for the assigned reading but it really isn't so bad. Don't even need to like reading. Just wants to know your thoughts and a bit of analysis of what you read so try not to overthink it. Lot of extra credit offered.
She's super friendly and allow a lot of extra credit. Quiz every week based on readings. Weekly journal which submitted twice for whole quarter (10 pages at least). Definitely need to pay effort in order to get an A.
Show up in class to get 5 points every day, requires at least 5 pages of reflection every week. It's super easy because it is guided and based on yourself. It's just writing about yourself and your life. Super easy A. Half the class is using their phones or doing something else. Just show up for the points.
Her Introduction to Comparative Religion class was great. There is definitely a lot of reading involved in order to answer the discussion questions, but as long as your responses are sincere and made with effort, you'll get full points. The final essay was purely about your thoughts and reflections on all of the reflections covered, no citations.
Friendly & easy. There's one book you have to read out of & do the hw on. HW consists of reading & a weekly journal that you have to write a few pages about the book; journal due twice the quarter. There's extra credit! You do have to do group work & partner work in class. No quizzes & final is a paper based on the all the material you've learned.
Grades slow. 2 books to read. 4 to 5 discussion posts due Friday and 1 response each due Sunday every week (175 words per post; 75 words per response). Midterm essay on the first book 4-5 pages. Final on the second book. Gives you 100 if you complete on time even the essays. questions are personal; can be answered without reading. No exams.
I hate to admit it but the assigned books for reading in this class were really boring to me. Every chapter seems to ramble on and on and does not have a coherent timeline. This is the first time when I literally was groaning from reading the pages of Plate's book. If you like reading, this class will be okay. If not, prepared to be bored.
This class opened my mind to not only other cultures, but also to aspects of my own existence that I had not previously considered. Lori fosters inner growth and outward understanding. She speaks to her students as if they are equals, and genuinely cares about their lives. I would take any other classes she offers.
Very caring professor! She is very considerate and will be willing to make ends meet with you. There is a reading + reading quiz + group discussion for each week but it is doable. Mostly lectures and watches videos in her class going in more depth about the current religion being discussed. I learned a lot about religion.
She definitely knows her stuff, but we mainly watched videos in class so didn't really learn much. Most people were on their computers or not paying attention. When she gave lectures it was interesting, but that was not often. Mainly talk with the people around you (useless), and then watch a video for 1/2 the class. Online quiz not exactly from TB
Really easy class. All we had to do is read 5 chapters of the textbooks a week, which takes around 2 hours, and then discuss each chapter with the rest of the class. It's really just your own opinions about the topic, so that's easy. The midterm and final are essays that are also very opinionated, so they are very easy as well
She is such an easy A if you just do your work. I felt that her class wasn't particularly interesting or thought provoking and that we tended to focus on one basic thing for way too long, but if you just want to get humanities credit and not have to worry about being stressed out, take her for sure
Based on Huston Smith book. Read the book & post 175 word response to 10 prompts about each chapter. Then a 75-word reply to another student on each prompt. Prompts are from the book & thought-provoking. Final is an essay on the religions learned. Took it in the summer & sylly came out 3 weeks early. Finished book before class started. Easy class
be prepared to WRITE. 12000+ words. 175 word discussions plus 75 word responses. there's about 50 total for a 6 week summer course! that's not including the final 6 page paper. easy boring class. boring repetitive books. such a snoozefest. discussions should be based on content not word count.
A very relaxed and easy going professor. The coursework is meant to have personal meaning . Class requires a book, which is very eyeopening and worth the read. Definitely a life-changing course.
About 10-12 discussion posts w/ 175 words and 1 response w/ 75 words for each. Final Essay 5-6 pages about what you learned in the course. No exams/tests whatsoever. Quick response time, super easy grader. Just busy work in general. If you work ahead and just grind out responses before they are due, this will be a very very easy class :)
No textbook but book required. Easy A and nice professor. She's willing to help and cares a lot. Good amount of work assigned but easy to do. Personally, I focused more on other classes but this class was therapeutic in a way to let your thoughts and opinions out. Overall, easy A!
Straightfoward professor and easy reading quizzes.
Try to actively participate in her class. Her lectures are very interesting, and she is a passionate and knowledgeable professor.
I loved this class so much. I took it as a GE class and it was not hard at all. Each week we have an experiment (very easy just be creative) and a reading quiz (2 tries). Also, professor Clinchard is very caring and respected. I recommend her class.
Amazing professor really cares. about you as a student really inspiring, her lecture are clear and the assignments are fairly easy there is about 11 discussions which they are based on the lectures, and also quickly weekly quizzes about the book. Overall very caring professor really passionate about humanities and would definitely take her again.
Weekly reading quizzes and discussion posts from presentations which are very interesting and inspirational. She gives good feedback and is really passionate and caring; the final is a 4-page reflection like essay which is a real piece of cake. I would highly recommend taking her.
lori's class was really organized, interesting, and insightful. i feel like i learned a lot about religions and spirituality, but also about myself and my classmates. she's really kind and always open to discussion about anything. one of the most genuine professors at de anza <3
Took her for HUMI 1 & HUMI 9. One of the nicest teachers I've ever had and extremely supportive during online learning. I recommend taking her class with harder ones since her classes don't require a lot of work. Discussion post and open book quiz each week with the final being an essay about the class.
she is the best. as long as you do the work you get full credit, so easy A. She's really nice and lenient, allows late work and barely takes off any points. There's a book we read and 400 words we write every week, but full credit every time. Super nice and easy, one of the most chill professors I've had.
Wasnt mean or tough in any way, was easy going and nice.
i LOVED her!!! incredibly lovely person and i enjoyed listening to her pre-recorded lectures. hw consists of discussion posts mainly and weekly/biweekly reading quizzes. the book is online and is provided by her. really easy class, and her feedback to the discussion posts were always positively and thoughtful.
Lori is the sweetest prof, but the there were no video lectures for this class, and the text book is HORRIBLE. You just CAN'T understand what's going on in the textbook unless you follow that religion, which makes this class difficult. Every week we had to write 10 essays of 175 words each, and with only the text book, it's hard to follow.
Professor Clinchard was beyond nice and sweet. I have nothing bad to say about her. She gives prerecorded video lectures that last about an hour. They are really boring. The book is HORRIBLE and should never be used. You are given a weekly quiz based on reading. Also given discussions to do. I DID NOT enjoy the class at all. Longest quarter ever.
I loved Professor Clinchard. She really changed my perspective on how to look and interpret things in life. This class is a true eye-opener to the many things we forget to appreciate in this busy world. Her feedback was superb and we had many experiments that helped with our growth. Nevertheless, take her; you will LOVE HER <33333
Great professor who cares about her students! Get ready for reading quizzes and exercises and have fun!
Like the other reviews, an easy A+. Good to knock out a GE. She also adds everyone on her waitlist.
Really great professor that made the class interesting. Received a good grade with just a bit of work each week being a quiz and some reading.
Professor Lori Clinchard is very good if you are just trying to get more units while completing a degree. She assigns one to three assignments per week and posts a lecture about once every two to three weeks. She grades based off of open book quizzes and one to two essays. She is a really easy teacher if you are diligent. Posts good lectures.
Very easy class, one or two assignments per week. Definitely take this if you need the credits!
Professor Clinchard is such a genuine, caring teacher, which is especially important while teaching a class on a topic as touchy as religion. Always encouraged us to approach the material with an open mind and understanding. Lots of reading, but nothing too challenging, and quizzes were open book. I learned a lot in this class.
Lori is such a sweetheart and one of the best instructors I've ever had. Take her! I had experienced many health problems while taking her class and she was super accommodating. While the textbook was hard to understand her lectures were very interesting despite class being online. I would've failed if she hadn't been so understanding, bless her.
Only a Final, and a lot of assignments in discussions. Lots of reading, but otherwise the class is easy. Was very boring at times, but if you put the work in, it's an easy A. I had her asynchronous.
pretty easy class fs. lots of reading tho cause chapters are long. weekly opened book quizzes, and discussions every other week that are 3 days long. we have like flipgrids once every month. there's also an essay due by the end of the quarter but that's about it. the class pretty lenient so I'm able to manage my other classes. overall chill slay
This course and professor Lori are what we all need as a study basis. The materials we learn from class will inspire you to explore yourself. I wish all students could have a chance to take her course at least once in their life cuz she is genuinely an amazing instructor. I admire her so much, and she will be my forever inspirational role model
Professor Clinchard was easily one of the most caring and understanding professors I have had at De Anza. This class has taught me a lot of valuable information.
Her class gives you a new persepective on the world you see around you. I've learned a lot of unforgettable information from her. She provides you the online textbook from which you take weekly quizzes on the chapter for that week. The chapters can be a bit long so be prepared. You also have to complete three "experiments" which are fairly easy.
Professor Clinchard's class is super easy. If you do all her work and follow the requirements, you'd get full credit. Quizzes include questions from the textbook's readings, and they're in all mcqs with no time limit. I highly recommend taking this class for GE.
She is so inspirational with her lectures. You will learn a lot if you pay attention, but even not, your grade will still be A.
Easy A class if you follow instructions & turn in semi-decent work. Lenient grader. Reading quizzes have 2 attempts & unlimited time. Can CTRL+F book or get answers from classmates on unofficial class Discord. 1 weekly discussion forum every other week. 1 Flipgrid video every month. Only takes 1 hr most weeks. Lots of due dates to keep track of.
Lori is so so cool. I can't express this enough. We were graded on weekly reading quizzes, both learning about religious practices and specific religions. We had in-class discussions, and our final was a listening project, where we had to speak with someone of a different religion and write a short paper on it!
Professor Clinchard is honestly a really good instructor, i took her my very first quarter here at DeAnza and it was such a rewarding class. I would definitely recommend her 100%.
This class and professor are really easy, just do the discussion posts and you can bs the experiments she makes you do. The quizzes are untimed and you can use the book she provides to find the answers cause the questions are self explanatory.
The best professor that I've had so far at De Anza! She provided a pdf link for the textbooks. Discussion posts every week and 1 final essay; all are easy because you only have to write based on your own personal experiences. If you need a class to boost your GPA, this is the right class for you EASY A.
I took the honors of this class and Lori was pretty chill and loves to communicate with the students. The lectures are short and easy to understand. It is discussion heavy and it is self paced as it is an async class. Just finish your hw on time and it is an easy 100%.
Super easy class for GE! One quiz every week for each chapter of a book (mcq & you can just cmd f). 3 experiments in which you experiment with something related to the book and her lecture. You will get full points if you just do the work and follow instruction. One 4-page paper for final about what you learned in the class. DEFINITELY TAKE HER!
Extremely easy and interesting class. For weekly reading quizzes just CTRL + F textbook. 3 fun and interesting experiments throughout the class (fairly easy to complete). Final paper 4 pages long. Honors paper 6-7 pages long. Each of these papers could be completed over a weekend or two fairly easily. Highly recommend this class and professor.
This class is not difficult however be prepared for a very high workload if your taking the summer session. it consists of 7-8 assignments answering a question in 180 words and replying to someone else in 75. Doesn't sound like much until you have to do it multiple times. Apart from that just a final paper. Not an overally hard class but boring. :/
Easy A. There are a lot of readings, but they are manageable.
One of the most thought provoking classes I have ever taken. Really a breath of fresh air. Professor Lori is a caring instructor and I would 100% take her class again.
This is a pretty chill class with an understanding professor. Assignments are manageable, and unstuck study can be a helpful study tool alongside the provided textbook. An easy A if you stay on top of the work.
A very cool professor. Every two weeks we do an experiment based on a topic in the weekly readings. Makes you really think outside the box and try out interesting ways to go about daily life. Weekly quizzes that are not timed and based on chapters of free book. Discussion posts are about experiments and peers give good feedback. Clear grading too!
Super easy class! Weekly homework was definitely like 45 minutes MAX. Barely took effort. She is soooo nice. Super understanding and really cares about you which I appreciated. She goes out of her way to help you if you need help and is a really good person.
I really enjoyed taking this class; it felt very refreshing and different from any other class I've taken. She is super kind and genuinely wants you to take something valuable from the course, which is evident in the experiments she has us perform. also it can feel work-heavy if you procrastinate, but it's still very manageable
Lori Clinchard is an amazing teacher. At the beginning of the course you will have more assignment compared to middle and last part of the course. This class focusing on Experiment reports and discussion about your experiment ideas. You will also need to give feedback and peer reviews to your classmates for grade. I 100% recommend this class.
For most assignments, you just needed to yap for 1-2 pages about the given prompt. Workload was at most 2 hours/week, usually less than that. The textbook was provided by the prof and interesting + relevant to the course.
Very easy class that relies on one book and is mainly discussion posts & self-reflection based on self-taught "experiments". Final was a 4 page essay. If you're decent at writing essays and put in some effort, this class is a breeze.
