This is for PSYC 1200. She says that EVERYTHING she says and EVERYTHING in the textbook is on the exam, and she tests on EVERYTHING just to make sure you read and listened. She even tests on textbook examples. And if you talk at all in her class (even in 200 FA building) she will stop and tell you to stop talking, and threaten to kick you out.
I don't understand how a prof who uses the word "irregardless" (or NON-word, I should say), and actually said "night shift workers who work nights" can dare to correct grammar on assignments. Her lectures are boring, long-winded, and pointless, because all the test material comes from the textbook. Get a different prof for this one, guys.
Psychology is by nature interesting... The problem is that any course where 87% of your mark comes from multiple choice tests that are graded on a curv will "F" your GPA. Its interesting but if your in the market for an Arts elective that will give your GPA a boost. THIS IS NOT FOR YOU!!!
teacher kept the class interesting
this is not a GPA booster if you take this course with her
This was a great prof, this class is definately not a GPA booster, but super interesting class. She's approachable, doesn't like when people talk in her class (which is good!), and she gives out fair tests in my opinion!
she was the best teacher i have had at university so far because she cared about everyone, even teaching to 300 people in a class. she made sure the class was a respectful environment, and was very nice and pleasant to listen to. she had good lectures, and in the end you learn a lot.
She comes off strict at first, but I warmed up to her after a few classes. I like going to her lectures, she's quick & straightforward. Almost all the i-clicker questions we do are on the exams, so pay attention and remember the answers!! She has a really nice purse.
Her tests were difficult. The labs were very frustrating. Instructions were not clear and marking was sporadic.
Very helpful and polite when you ask her questions one-on-one. When she is doing her lectures she can come off a little scary.
VERY disorganized on all fronts: lecture, grading, labs, assignments...making it really difficult to learn anything, let alone succeed in the course. A lot of students withdrew. Take it with someone else.
Not so sure about her in-class lectures but take her ONLINE course. I've recieved ALL A's on my essay assignments (total of 6) and the exam was straight out of the book. She replies with her blackberry so you can literally email her 12 AM and she'd reply to you within minutes. TAKE HER FOR AN EASY A.
Took Ab Psy distance ed and it was very diff-tons of reading. There were no lectures, or online sessions so we were conpletely on our own. Takes forever to get marks back - frustrating
I believe this is one of the first classes she has taught in the Asper faculty. She is nice but kind of strict and anal about "house keeping". She makes herself available to help during office hours, however, she doesn't give back marks on time AT ALL, she cannot work ANGEL, and she takes forever to respond to emails.
Easy class. Pure definitions with some examples from the text thrown in. Study the textbook more than the notes. The notes are a guideline as to what she will test. GPA booster if you study. But this was a summer class. The lab was anal about perfecting APA style writing though so watch out for that as a group paper is the final project for the lab

Cheat sheets in this class. Although you should still study as you will be slightly lost if you don't know what you're doing on tests. The lab was straight forward math although you do lose marks for minor calculation errors. T-tests, ANOVA, Chi-Square, etc are all concepts in this course. Not a hard course if you study.
She's terrible. I just recieved my first intro to psych exam mark, I got a C. I'm an A student. Look at her averages they speak for themself. My class, 60% her other class 53%. This is out of 300 students per class. She needs to be reported. Questions were unclear with many spelling and MC mistakes.
Came off as mean at first but very nice lady! Study hard and you will do good in this course. Lecture is fun and actually makes me wanna come to class. Try and write down or remember practice questions some are in her exams. (This is not a GPA booster class you do have to keep up with readings and study/watch lectures)
Took the distance version, so no lectures, just the second half of a text book. All assignments were returned late, and extension was issued so she could have more time to mark. Did not get the mark for the final assignment prior to the exam. She also marks far to hard than what the course is designed. School did nothing when I complained.
Good prof. Very clear. Easy class. Do the study questions at the end of each textbook section and you will do fine.
Really nice and tells good stories. She's really good at teaching these tutorials. She's pretty strict with talking, but this is to everyone's benefit, as the less talking the shorter the session and quicker everyone gets to leave.
Writes novels on her slides and basically just reads off the slides anyway, and when she does elaborate, it's to tell some personal story that doesn't really matter and/or help anyone understand the material. Asks irrelevant questions on tests so you need to study EVERY LITTLE THING.
She uses a lot of media in her lectures and tells many anecdotes.
Stupid questions on the test. Doesnt test on important broad concepts.. instead she tests upon the minor details that most people miss. I thought psych would be an interesting topic before i took the class. Now it is probably the dullest subject I have ever studied in my life.
She was good. Her stories actually relate to the material and helped me related it in my mind for studying and retrieval on tests. Tough course but you can do well, you just have to really stay on top of things! She is very fair and understanding. I've had her twice intro and abnormal and I like her!
TOUGH class! Notes are just summarized versions of the textbook material so pretty useless because the tests (of which there are 6, no final) test on TINY details from the textbook making reading it a MUST. Also an A>86 which makes it harder. NOT a GPA booster although interesting. Aside from the tests she is a very polite and intelligent lady :).
she doesn't nearly cover half of the stuff in the textbook. there is no point attending class take the online one
Great teacher! 80% of lectures are extremely interesting because she uses alot of media and stories to get the point across which makes learning the concepts must easier. Reading the textbook is a must tho because she uses alot of little details from there in her tests. Found this way easier than the half online version of PSYC1200
Honestly just take the online version. You're better off doing so because you can re-watch the lectures. She gives tough tests and doesn't touch on more than half of the textbook — if it wasnt for the necessity to have the textbook for online quiz purposes, i would recommend never getting it.
A in her course. It was not easy, but it is feasible. This is a tough course for sure. The book is huge but if you do your reading and use her lecture notes as a guilde you should do fine. Breaks down the course into several tests. Which is good if you think about it, b/c if you fumble one or two you can still do well. Seek her help if needed
The tests are definitely tough so studying power points, attending class and reading the textbook is necessary if you want to succeed. I would recommended taking a class with her but only if you're up for a challenge. She converted me to a psychology major so she is definitely a great prof!
one of my favorite profs! doesn't tolerate talking in class, which benefits the people who actually go to class to listen. Really nice lady in and outside of class and really cares about her students! I fully recommend taking a class with her!
Lori is an angel! She is hands down one of the best profs I have ever had. This class is difficult but she honestly does everything in her power to make it easier for you. She is truly a great teacher and person. I wish every class was with her!
Took this online..Ridiculous amount of info needed for the exam in this course, you could hardly do the assignments and they were open book because there was 300 pages needed to read for each assignment and the questions were a single sentence in the chapters. If you don't need this course, don't take it.
Prof Doan is one of the most FAIR profs at the UofM. We had some trouble with our lab TA's, and we were given a fair chance to get a BONUS mark on the stuff that our TA failed to teach us (aka which we would've gotten points off for unknowingly doing wrong). She gave us practice exams, cheat sheets, and emphasized content we covered. No tricks!!!!!
Lori is an awesome prof. Our lab TA was really disorganized but Lori gave us marks anyways for an assignment that we didn't get proper instructions for. She was always available to answer any questions, and went out of her way to help students. Class is really tough but she definitely helped make it more manageable. Take this class with Lori
Lori is an amazing prof! I am in her evening class which is 3 hours once a week, and she makes me want to go every week. I think if it were any prof, I wouldnt have the motivation to go like I do with her. She is very funny and she tells alot of stories relating to what we're talking about, so when tests come you can just remember her stories!
Her notes are very sloppy and teaching style is bizarre. Constantly and I mean constantly asking students if they're done taking the notes down with a thumbs up or down question. Felt rushed to get notes. Forces students to wait outside before each exam then has them rush in only to start turning lights on and off. I'd avoid her class if you can.
She is a very helpful professor. I studied the slides more than the textbook. If you attend class and put in a little effort you would do fine.
Watching the videos take forever and you have to remember everything she says in them as well as everything from the textbook to do even remotely well on the tests.
READ THE TEXTBOOK!!! She is a nice prof but sometimes rushes through explanations. She always has lots of real life examples which helps the understanding of the course material.
She is very clear when giving lectures, very nice and understanding. Really enjoyed her as a prof
I love her
This course was by far the most interesting. The professor always had interesting life stories to tell which related to the course material. Course content was easiest to comprehend when textbook chapters were read beforehand as power point notes were basic and to the point.
The class had 2 midterms, a ZAPS assingment and a final exam. The first midterm was fairly easy, second one was much tougher. Haven't written the final yet. You definitely need to read the textbook though as looking back at her slides, lots of stuff is confusing. Lectures are interesting and she shows videos.
She's ok. However her notes are absolute garbage. If you take this course you should be ready to read the entire textbook from cover to cover. Overall though the course was super interesting and I did super well.
I found the class lectures to be very minimal, more like bullet points of what to actually study from the textbook. Prof. herself is funny and nice, but in a kind of tough, no-nonsense way. Final was way, way easier than the midterms. Emphasizes attendance/most recent text, got an A without either, so do what you think works for you.
Tests are on specific phrases found in the textbook. Material is not hard, but the exams do not accurately reflect student's learning. Prof is friendly but class notes are not helpful for studying.
She is very kind and willing to help students outside of class. Her tests are moderately hard but the online experiments are easy marks.
I really enjoyed this class with Lori Doan. She used real life examples and memorable videos that are current and helpful to remember the content. She was very helpful in explaining content that I didn't fully understand. I really enjoyed this class and have already signed up to take another class with her.
Lori is really a nice prof. You just need to go to class and read your textbook and you'll pass. I will take another class with her.
Really good professor and enjoyable class. She has a good voice, and is willing to show you videos to help make the points more clear the monkey experiment was a good video. However, her tests are not the greatest. Likes to ask very vague questions, and does not like to be wrong. Question or two is wrong? She won't listen to you. Very stubborn
SHE TEACHES WELL AND CARES FOR OTHERS
I really enjoy her in lectures, She keeps things interesting! I was very excited when the semester started, However her tests are more difficult than usual. She likes to make you think very deeply & you must read & understand the textbook perfectly to get a good grade. I found i understood the material but when test time came, It was so confusing.
Doan is a solid professor. She's funny, she teaches the material in a way that is engaging and keeps you interested. She uses real life examples to help you understand concepts. Grade is based on 4 tests and 4 small assignments. The assignments were good, however I found her tests quite hard. Youneed to possess a deep understanding of the material.
Tests were much more difficult then the material itself and questions were very vague and/or unclear
Amazing prof! One, if not the best I've ever had! The material and lectures are very interesting. She does make you think hard on the tests but if you study and read the textbook, the tests are easy. Definitely recommend!
Yes the test are very tricky however she really does test your knowledge on this material. She will make sure that with every test you are carefully going through each question and analyzing it. The assignments were easy marks worth 20% of your final grade. Definitely purchase the textbook because attending class is not really necessary if you do.
READ THE TEXTBOOK CAREFULLY
AMAZING. felt like her teaching style was so you actually learned something. A lot of interactivity i.e. discussions, group work - but those are usually just free marks. Read the textbook, memorize it word for word. The slides aren't hers, they're made by textbook publisher and so are the exams. Hilarious, caring, i would take all classes w/her
Lori is great, very nice prof! Her anecdotes are very funny describe the course content well. You will need the textbook; make notes from the textbook first, then attend the lectures and listen to confirm your understanding. Very easy A+ course, IF you put in the time. Very interesting too. Lori's lectures provide a good summary of the information.
I appreciate that she uses her personal experiences to explain her lectures. They are very useful for studying. Although her lectures are incredible, it is important to use the textbook when studying for Tests
Really great prof! She connects the lectures to real life examples which helps with studying and memorizing. She's really enthusiastic, loves her job, and is very interactive with students. Her tests aren't the easiest out there, but she gives 4 really basic assignments worth 20% which you can easily ace, so that's 20% down automatically.
The tests are ridiculous. The material is extremely straight forward and almost basic knowledge, but she uses trick questions to encourage students to fail. The lectures are not mandatory as she talks about her husband the entire time. Is late and cancels class out of the blue as her time matters more than anyone elses.
Lori was enthusiastic and vibrant about the lecture material ( social psychology) and tried to involve students in the class discussions. If you show up to class and use the lecture material ( which is given on UM learn) then you can expect a 70 on tests and if you want that extra 30% then read the textbook. Easy class, easy going, overall great!
A great example of an intellectual professor who is both honest and engaging with her students. You definitely need to read the textbook, but her examples from her own experiences are a good reference when applying the terms to the test. More application based tests and 4 simple assignments for an easy 20%.
Lori is terrific. You'd get an A+ just reading the textbook, but you would really be doing yourself a disservice to not attend because class discussions are lit, and you learn a lot of important things. I usually hate assignments, but found myself sitting in the dark writing about social psychology and laughing my head off(I'm not crazy). Love her!
Enjoyed taking her classes. Very interesting lectures. She gives great examples for the material. Reading the textbook is a must. She has 4 assignments which don't require a format and are fairly easy and short. There are 3 tests which have 3-4 chapters. Class discussions are always encouraged by her. Would love taking more of her courses.
Get ready to read. Completely ban on the use of electronic devices. She talks fast, and teach at a speed of 12 lines on the book per minute. So if you have trouble understanding what is she talking about, buy the textbook and read it, the book is good. She is warm-hearted and kind, so don't hesitate to ask questions, ask anything.
Slowest marker in the history of markers. Overall not bad though.
She's an amazing professor who I very much respect and would take any course from her again! Her exams are not difficult, usually all multiple choice, 3 tests per semester, not cumulative. She usually provides an online access course for Pearson as well which contains practise questions to help you breeze through the exams.
One of the best professors i have ever had and amazing course for psyc beginners.
Get ready to read! Very kind lady and a funny person but you really do have to teach yourself. Her lectures do not cover the textbook material (even though that's what you're tested on). Read the textbook very carefully and remember every detail in it. Assignments were easy, basically free marks. Tests are tricky.
AMAZING! Lori made me fall in love with psychology, which is now my major. Everything is text book based and her slides are online however her lectures are wonderful. The way she covers the topics make them really click into your head. Will 101% be taking as many classes with her as possible.
Dr. Doan is really awesome! She is one of my favourite professors in the psychology department. Her lectures really help you to connect the concepts from the textbook to real-life situations. Reading the textbook from cover-to-cover is a must! Majority of the questions on the exam are directly from the textbook.
Best prof I have ever come across. Her lectures are entertaining and she shares a lot of stories to help you remember the material. If you pay attention in class and read the textbook you will be fine. She is a fair marker and does have a review class before tests. Her notes are great, but not available online. Textbook covers anything you missed
Lori is a very good choice for a professor. She genuinely cares about her students, she makes lectures actually enjoyable to go to. The course is very simple, read the textbook, and supplement that knowledge with the lecture material. Easy course overall.
Cog Processes with Prof Doan is the toughest psych course I have taken. The concepts are abstract so the textbook requires effortful reading, and the tests can be tricky. You're graded by many things, so time management from day 1 is critical to success. Attendance is optional, but full knowledge of the text is mandatory. A very interesting class!
Lori is an awesome in person and as a prof! All you need to do is read the textbook and her slide notes correlate perfectly with the readings. You must do most of this work on your own by reading the textbook. Other than that, she likes to give fun stories about her life in class. She is very caring and is almost like a mother to her students.
She's very kind. Cares a lot about her students. Clear grading criteria. Make sure you read and pay attention in her class. Very willing to work with you and assist you were you have problems. I'm very glad I took this class
Has an amazing personality in class. Went to class a maximum of 10 times throughout the whole year, finished with an A+
Lori was an absolutely awesome professor. The lectures were great, the tests were pretty easy if you showed up to class and besides textbook reading there wasn't any homework. But I can easily say that the best thing about her is that she honestly really cared about her job and her students and made you feel welcome in her class!
Lori was a great prof! Excellent lectures clearly explaining everything. Gave lots of hints as to what was going to be on the tests/exams. Getting and reading the textbook is a must for you to get a good mark in the course, mostly memorization. She does go on lots of rabbit trails... but mostly her funny stories are related to the lecture material.
A good prof, and gives good examples that relate to concepts. You must attend class, because you get marks for attendance + q's. She keeps track of the attendance with a $26 app she makes you buy, which is annoying. She doesn't ask the same amount of q's each class, so it sucks if you miss classes. Not the most amazing prof, but not the worst.
Lori was great, she is passionate about her teaching and is great at helping students understand the material
Reading the textbook is very important as she doesnt cover everything on her notes but it's an easy to follow textbook and she is a great prof that really cares about her students! Course is very interesting, def recommend taking it with her.
Make sure you read your textbook!! She teaches right out of it; it's helpful to read ahead of time before class and to attend lectures as she marks attendance and participation. Overall the class was pretty interesting and she's a nice lady, but she doesn't always post her notes ahead of time and only has two in-class midterms and a final.
She was by far one of my favourite profs I've had at the UofM. Test material was easy to follow. Grades were posted relatively fast and she kept up to date with posting notes online. She showed great interest in the subject matter taught and was very considerate of sensitive topics. TopHat was used, participation only mattered to write missed tests
10% of the grade is from an app called top hat for attendance and lecture questions, she will tell you that you cant do the code from home.... you can. some classes there will be 4 top hat questions, others none. repeatedly tells you she doesnt like to/mean to talk about herself but does excessively. 99.7% of exams qs from textbook
Uses TopHat for attendance AND questions during lecture not always the same about of questions per lecture. Some lectures have 0 questions some 3+ makes you go to every lecture as questions are counted towards grade. Talks about her personal life often makes you unsure what to write for notes on the actual material. Be ready to read entire textbook
Passionate about Psych? Then she's a wonderful prof. She uses real life experiences to help you understand and encourages participation. Her classes can be fun and not feel like classes at all. She really cares about her students' studies and health. However, you will need the book to study since she gives more of the overview than all the details.
The class was fair with grading but attending lectures was pointless. Read from the textbook, very few TopHat questions, and very opinionated. Exams were fairly easy
Literally the best prof I've ever had. Anyone who rates her below a 4/5 probably just didnt go to class and tried to get by with just the slides online and then got a C. No reason to get anything less than a B, Lori is absolutely amazing, such a great teacher, and she GENUINELY cares about her students, we regularly do wellness exercises in class
You have to read the textbook. Skim through a lot of details in class. But overall a good prof.
You basically have to teach yourself since her slides just reference the textbook pages. Since its 99% self teaching, you don't really have to come to the lectures. She does a good job including everything you'll be tested on. Spends A LOT of time talking about her personal life
Pros: very nice and kind. Caring for her students. Will try to answer every question asked. She brings many personal experience as examples for the definition, which is easy to understand. Encourage students to express their ideas. Cons: she speaks FAST! You have to work on both the lecture and the textbook!
Great prof. Engaging during lectures but not annoying. I'd love to take another class with her.
Talks a lot about personal application of material. Is not very accesable via email (takes a long time or doesn't respond) but is very nice when you talk in person. I found tests very confusing. Lots of trick questions, that you have to choose the "best" answer for. Never really could get a good gauge on how I did on the exam after leaving
She's a pretty mediocre prof. She just started doing class attendance with iClicker questions, which counts to your final grade. Other than that, using the textbook is pretty straightforward and will help you more on the tests than using Lori's notes, simply because she rushes through them and you can't copy them to completion.
She NEVER finishes the required chapters for tests during lectures, as she often allots a lot of time on slides that do not require a lot of time. Be prepared to teach yourself the chapters she does not go over in class. START STUDYING EARLY, specifically the chapter right before the test because chances are she'll probably not cover it in lecture.
The lecture slides are straight from the textbook, kinda messy. You need to read LOTS. You wouldn't even gave to come to class if it weren't for the iClicker questions. barely any iClicker questions, like 1-2 per class, if not none.
Amazing prof, my favourite at the university. You are honestly doing yourself a disservice by not taking one of her classes
Lori is a great teacher with a great sense of humor. I love her and her classes and would take any courses taught by her.
Great lectures where most of the material is covered, but Lori can also relate almost any topic back to her personal life. As long as you skim the textbook and listen during lectures you should be fine on the tests. She really cares about her students and wants them to do well in her class and in life in general.
She uses her personal life experience to explain things but this did not help come exam day. Her Cog Psych class is notorious for its difficulty. You need to make hundreds of cue cards to cram all of the textbook info into your head. To make things worse, some multiple choice questions are set up to trick you. A nice lady, but be prepared to work.
This is an example of a class where you pay your teacher so YOU can teach yourself! Her lectures are vague, she reads all the information off the screen and they are irrelavent to the test! She is extremely harsh with her grading and will pick out your smallest flaw to deduct your score so READ THE TEXTBOOK - thats your only guide!
I have taken a lot of PSYCH classes in the past but this is by far the WORST classes I have ever taken. Shes extremely harsh and she graded assignments like she wants you to fail her class. Half of the stuff she taught were not even on the exam and one advice to pass is dont even look through her slide, just go read the book!
WORST prof ever! You should reconsider before taking her class... You would struggle so much even tho you already gave your best in because shes a very tough grader. Very cold and harsh so dont expect a high grade! You should take ab psych instead if anything!
Just finished the course of Social Psych here and I gotta say this is by far the WORST professor I have ever had. Her lectures were of no help, she grades your paper really hard (literally will find your smallest mistake to point it out so she can deduct your point for it). Would highly recommend changing your mind of taking any class with her!
ANYONE WANTS TO TAKE SOCIAL PSYCH WITH DR DOAN, PLEASE DO IF YOU WANT TO FAIL AND HAVE A BAD MARK ON YOUR GPA! I took this for a summer class cause nothing else was opened and this was the WORST decision of my life! She's really mean outside of class AND she grades your paper like she hates you or sth! STAY OUT!
She was an amazing professor, but I found difficulties in psuchology because I didn't read anything about psychology before but she was good, kind. That was my fault that I didn't read very well so I didn't get a good mark but she was good if you'll read well then you'll get a good result. But she is very strict about the attendance, don't be late
Dr Doan is engaging and knows her stuff. If you arent a fan of learning beyond the textbook and doing in class work to broaden your learning, her class isnt for you. She is a nice lady, talks a lot and sometimes gets off topic but makes her way back quickly. Pay attention, do the assignments and show up to class, youll be golden!
Took dyadic as a DE course this term. Found this much easier than social psych with her in the previous summer. 3 quizzes, 3 simple assignments and 3 discussions that are all pass or fail with a paper and a final exam. No lectures, just textbook reading. Use the pass/fail things to boost your mark and you should be fine! Enjoyed the course overall
she kept us updated when classes switched online and made sure to respond to emails as quickly as she could during the transition. The class was alright, but there was lot of materials to cover. The lectures (introduced separate and new topics), textbook, and a book. Textbook was great, the book was odd, hm were easy, but study for the finals.
Overall Dr. Doan delivered an interesting course this term. I would say that the only thing that was unsatisfactory in my opinion, is how long it took to receive grades. however, she does give constructive feedback on each assignment which is usually very helpful if you want to grow and sharpen your academic writing skills.
I had an A in the course, she is such an amazing prof
Get ready to read a lot bc all she does in the lectures is reading from the slides. No preparation for exams whatsoever. So basically you are teaching yourself. Also a tough grader and no organized lectures/ videos during online classes. Talks a lot but half of it seems unrelated to the topic. Avoid her, there are better prof in Psyc department.
Save yourself from a course where theres a lot Of work but its all worth very little except for the tests. No final exam so that was a perk
Just dont take it with her, the content is easy but her tests are literally the worst. Not to mention her grading policy: ridiculous
honestly, her class isn't that bad. just make sure you focus on the textbook content and study and you'll be fine. the grade was only dependent on four tests but all the test averages were pretty good (70s-80s%). she's a genuinely nice lady and i imagine an in-person class with her would be fine.
Half the class dropped (VW) by the 3rd test. Final grades were based on 5 tests (20% each). Each test had 60 questions and we only have 60 minutes to complete with no extra time (mind you, our uni's website is laggy). Average was high because people dropped the class. I really would not recommend taking her lessons, at least for this class.
I just didn't vibe with her teaching style. Her online lectures had nothing to do w/ the content (maybe .5%) we watched YT videos for hours. Her recorded lectures are just literally her reading from the text but won't touch the more confusing content. It's all you in this class.
Caring and nice prof. But unrealistically difficult for a 2nd year course. Marks are mostly from 3 tests across term. To get better than average mark, likely need to spend over 60 hours (per test) creating study materials (in most efficient way)/reading/studying, and need to do start studying everything three+ weeks in advance.
I could tell Lori was a kind person but her teaching style was terrible. She posted lectures but they were never useful. She assigned so many khan academy vids instead of teaching us the harder material herself. You have to read every word of the textbook to do decent in the tests and the grading scale was harder than any class Ive had.
She doesnt give you the option to go back to questions in tests or see more than one question per page. She has a rule that you cant ask her questions during the exam which is a bit absurd. There are multiple questions per test that are exactly the same with a slight wording difference, making it hard to be sure you have the right answer.
Lori was a fine prof but my main criticism has to do with being online. All her recorded lectures were so annoying because she had her pet birds chirping non stop in the background. I always had such a hard time focusing and she brushed it off like it was super distracting. Her live lectures also aren't necessary to attend. Would skip this prof
kind and easy to talk to but I understood the material very well and studied extensively but some of the questions on the test did not seem to make much sense.
Dr. Doan was probably one of the most caring and understanding profs I've ever had. She was very considerate of my circumstances and was very supportive. She is a fair grader and this particular course was very straightforward.
very engaging lectures, and u end up learning a lot of stuff from her class
Dr. Doan is amazing. Her tests are tough - she tests on fairly specific stuff - but they're open-book and if you do the reading and attend the lectures, you'll do well. She's very kind and her lectures are really engaging. She's extremely knowledgeable!
Kind person with an awful teaching style. Lectures were hard to listen to with birds chirping, I learned more from the textbook than her, didn't take time to teach core concepts and test you on small details instead of content, tests were quick with trick Q's, and she would always have excuses for things, and sound overwhelmed with her class load.
Take her as prof if you wanna recieve good grade but not if you wanna really learn
She is very passionate about what she teaches. You have weekly assignments though and that can get pretty tedious.
The professor expects us to read the whole chapter make notes on it before she even teaches it in her class ,which is, The deadline of an assignment / quiz of a chapter is before she even teaches it. In class she makes us watch a 40 minute video from YouTube and then a Kahoot(quiz) about something she has not even taught yet. PAYING 2500$ for what?
Amazing amazing instructor
