Ms. Houghton-Estes is one of those instructors who lays it all out at the beginning, so if you get lost, you got yourself there on your own. She is personable and careful to make sure everyone is keeping up. She's also an interesting person to know. I highly recommend her as a professor.

I took an online class of her's a few years ago and had thoroughly enjoyed it. I expected it to be a walk in the park (online class and all) and while it wasn't difficult, it was certainly challenging and very rewarding. I would reccommend any class that she teaches to anyone, even if it was just to take for your own personal higher learning. Thanks!

She is a GREAT teacher and a good communicator. If you have to take this class, might as well take it online with her. Sometimes it can be a lot of work, but it is pretty easy work! She is very nice, stays in touch often, and very nice! The work online is extensive, but easy.

I took this class online. There is a lot of busy work. Overall, she is a great teacher. She sends reminder emails for upcoming deadlines. I would take her again.

Took the class online, The teacher tells you when all your assignments are due via email. You can always contract her if you have problems. Overall the class has a lot of writing but if you keep up with the dues dates you should be just fine. I would most likely take her again if I had the chance.

Ditto the other posters. There is a lot of writing and a lot of repetition. I think she broke it down so that a person with 0 knowledge of the topic could understand it completely, and we had to follow every step. She was very helpful, and responsive. Her syllabus looks very overwhelming, bc she talks A LOT, but its not bad once you're used to it.

I had no interest in taking this class, but now I'd like to take another women's studies class (as long as it's taught by her!). She is amazing as well as organized. It is a lot of busy work but I learned so much. Also, she is VERY helpful and kind.

Out of my 43 hours of classes taken so far, her WGS 201 class has been my favorite! There is a lot of reading and writing but it's not all in proper formats and there is plenty of time given per assignment. There are discussion boards and essay questions and a final paper at the end. She is extremely helpful and timely in responding.

This teacher is amazing! Her class has a lot of work, but everything is explained perfectly, so if you put in the effort you will get a really good grade. If you have any questions about a grade you received, she is more than happy to explain it for you and even fix any mistake she may have made. I am taking her again next semester. She truly cares

Wonderful professor and class if you're not afraid to actually do some work. There is quite a bit of reading and classwork, but it's not unmanageable. If you get a bad grade it's your own fault. The online information (the class is a hybrid) can be a little confusing, but again, not unmanageable. Poorly motivated students should stay away.

Lots of course work, but if you do the readings and attempt to do good in the class, Lori gives you all the notes, feedback, and answers you need. Lots of reading and textbook purchase definitely required. Lori is excellent with keeping you on track. Clear class schedule and emails frequently about upcoming assignments.

I took ENG 234 online this summer with her! She was incredible! The class included True/False quizzes every week over the assigned readings, and I think 6 discussion boards total for the course. The readings were interesting, and she grades quickly. I wouldn't consider the class hard, just time consuming! I would for sure take her again!! TAKE HER!

She is my advisor as well, she is so caring about how I am and how things are going in my life. The classes I take from her are really thought provoking, and interesting. I definitely will take more of her classes, have one in the fall ��

Ms. Houghton's Intro to Film class was so great, I looked her up the next semester and signed up for Intro to Women's and Gender Studies. To me, feedback is the most important thing a professor can do, and Ms. Houghton does not disappoint. Plus, the subject matter is always interesting, so homework isn't a chore like it is in other classes.

Lori Houghton was a wonderful instructor. If you had an questions, she was quick with a response. The timeframe of assignments due was very reasonable. With our essay responses, she wasn't hung up on how long they were just that we knew and understood about the subject we were writing about. I loved this class and instructor!

My FAVORITE professor yet. She is kind, merciful & cares about her students. All she wants to know is that you understood/retained what you read! She is fair, reasonable and very clear with instructions. As long as you read what she assigns, you will pass! Exams are fair and in essay format (which was very easy to do if u read!) Responds quickly!

She defines clear expectations from the beginning. The quizzes are super easy, but pay attention to wording on the questions. She is always readily responding the help discussion board or by email, and she is super nice! The mini essays are not something you can knock out in ten minutes if you want a good grade. She appreciates good research.

Ms. Houghton is amazing! She is, hands down, the best teacher I have ever had. She is clear in her expectations and if you read and pay attention you will be completely fine. She makes herself available if you need anything and responds quickly to her emails. I enjoyed her class and plan on taking her again in the future.

She's the best teacher I've ever had and probably will ever have. This class is very easy if you pay attention to the instructions and do what they say. There isn't a textbook but there are books you're required to get because this class is mainly reading and writing, but it is worth it if you're interested in the subject.

This professor is amazing! Her course outline is extremely organized. There was never a time where I needed material and didn't know right where to look for it. She always responds to emails as quickly as she can and to the best of her ability. I wish I could take her classes again!

Womens Lit: I LOVED this class. She assigned REALLY good reading content. She graded based on quizzes and discussion board essay questions, quizzes extremely easy and discussions challenging but not incredibly hard. I learned a lot. She gave a clear syllabus and grading criteria and regularly sent out email reminders for due dates. Take her class!

Professor Houghton is amazing. She grades things quickly and gives excellent feedback. There are weekly essay questions that you need to be prepared to spend some time on. If you read directions to assignments and put your best effort forward you should be able to pass this class and learn a lot. I would highly recommend her as a professor!

Took WGS201 Women/Gender Studies & Eng281 Intro to Film. A real treat for all! Requires participation and communication. She responds quickly to emails and gave me extensions I requested. She plans the topics perfectly! Be willing to read. Clear instructions. She makes sure you have enough info to "get it". Best class I ever took is her WGS201!

Highly recommended professor, guys! Took ENG281 Intro to Film. Great class, very nice professor. Loved the films and the homework felt relevant and time worthy. She always made sure we had more than enough resources and information needed, and was always prepared to give thorough, helpful answers to questions! Always clear instructions.

As long as you read closely about what is expected in each assignment you will do fine. She is very helpful and is awesome with feedback if you have any questions or concerns. She truly seems to love what she does and helping students out.

Wonderful professor! Important subject! :) In this class, we analyzed different works of literature & archetypes that women have received in society. This class was very easy IMO. There are some quizzes and discussion boards, but if the topic interests you and you can understand the general idea of the stories, it should be no problem!

This was a great class. My favorite thus far for a credit requirement. I would recommend it to anyone. Just do the work and its a breeze.

I loved this class! Lots of writing, but the prompts and questions were very interesting to write about and Prof. Houghton always gave encouraging feedback. It's sometimes hard for me to keep up with online assignments, but I appreciated that Prof. Houghton always sent us several emails before and on the due dates. I'm glad I took her class!

I've been in three of her classes, and she's literally the best professor I've ever had. SHE ACTUALLY CARES!!! She also gives great lectures, i always love what she has to say.

Gives plenty of time to complete each assignment. Has the schedule and due dates laid out so its easy to plan ahead and know when things are due. Give great feedback on the discussion boards and the chapter quizzes are easy as long as you read the chapter. Directions are clear and she responds quickly to any questions you may have. 10/10 recommend

She was a very kind and caring professor and tried to make sure we understood what we would be graded based on. You could never say you were surprised about an assignment because she reminds you. Quite a bit of work but nothing unmanageable. I recommend this class.

I've taken Mrs. Houghton for two courses, & if I wasn't graduating this spring, I would take her for another course! She is extremely helpful with any questions, and she responses quickly, which is helpful with for online classes. I would recommend any of her classes!(This course consisted of 8 quizzes and 5 discussion boards with little research!)

By far one of the best professors I've ever had. I won't lie, this class is very tie consuming and you need to put in a lot of effort to get the grade you want but it's worth it. Professor Houghton is very caring and always got back to me in a timely manner when I emailed her with questions. I wish I could have her for every class.

Very nice professor and incredibly helpful if you have any questions or if you need something extended for any reason. It is incredibly easy to get an A in the class as long as you put a little effort into the work. All the quiz answers are told in class so as long as you go you'll get 100 on every quiz. Definitely recommend.

My goal in taking this class was to learn something, and I certainly succeeded. Prof. Houghton's choices from the textbook on which to focus contained a varied amount of subjects, style, and entertainment. I thoroughly enjoyed this class. Not for the faint-hearted, though. You have to put some effort into the learning. A-Plus for the class.

She was my teacher during the Pandemic and was very helpful and resourceful even before things started getting bad. She is easy to get ahold of and is very understanding. She's a great teacher and I would definitely take her classes again

The course requires you to watch a few movies, but they were all super interesting. The main part of your grade comes from discussion boards, but they aren't too difficult, as long as you try and pay attention!

Mrs. Houghton was an amazing professor. Her class was a normal level of difficulty, but she definitely made it fun. Be prepared to read a lot from your textbook. Lori Houghton was the best professor ive had at BCTC and I recommend everyone takes atleast one class of hers. She went above and beyond to make sure I passed the class. Reading is required however it is all very enjoyable even for a non reader. You wont get an A for doing nothing however if you do the readings, you will easily pass this class.

This class was super fun. It gives a new appreciation for the amount of work that goes into the film-making process. The professor was helpful and explained how you might've taken the wrong turn if that happens. It opened my eyes to the true masterpieces that many films are, and how much skill it put into bringing them to the silver screen.

I was in a bad accident during this class. Ms. Houghton was incredible by working with me on getting caught up. She cared about my grade and well being. That was very much needed in a hard time of my life. The class itself is amazing and the films we watched are too. I loved analyzing and getting outside of my comfort zone.

She is amazing!!! She is so absolutely sweet and you can tell she really cares for her students and the work she gives. Her blackboard class layout might be a bit jarring at first because she uses many colorful fonts for titles but you quickly get used to it! Overall, a fantastic teacher!

I cannot emphasize how much I loved professor Lori's class. It is like no other class. I would describe my experience as special because she was a big part of my self-discovering journey. Professor Houghton has been the best professor I've had at BCTC!! She gives word for word instructions and they are very throughout. So make sure you read the announcements!! Reading is a must in her classes, but if you want an easy grade and you're dedicated to do the assignments, I recommend taking her classes.

Professor Lori was wonderful! I took Eng 281 (Film as Lit), and it was probably one of my favorite classes that I have ever taken online. The workload isn't too bad. She also makes the grading criteria very easy to understand, I've had some other classes where they don't use blackboard and use a different website which confuses me a lot on how they grade my assignments. I took Professor Lori over the 4 week winter course and it was wonderful. I managed to pass her class with an 106%, in my opinion she is a very good grader. Her discussion board was mini essays and you only had to respond to two peers which was very easy. Her quizzes were also very easy, overall her class was great. I recommend you take it.

Professor Lori Houghton is a good film teacher for English 281. Everything for the course was very organized and well-written. The questions for each discussion board were very interesting to write and talk about for each film watched for this course.

professor was great. Be ready to write a lot though. some of the movies were enjoyable while some weren't to me. All movies are famous or have won awards for the films. Great teacher and would definitely take again.

She is an amazing professor! The readings are relevant and very interesting. She will post reminders of what assignments are due several times throughout the week. She makes it very clear as to what she expects from you to do on the assignments. As long as you actively participate, you will receive a good grade.

Professor Lori H. was wonderful. She made the instructions for her online course very easy to understand and the course ran so smoothly. She is willing to help if you call or email her, and truly wants to make sure her students do well. I would take a class with this professor again.

I loved having Lori as a professor! She was always sending us updates and announcements on due dates and assignments, and the class was always interesting. It is so clear she is passionate about what she teaches and loves what she does! I would most definitely take any class that she teaches again!

Professor Houghton is amazing. She is encouraging and insightful. She also gives amazing advice to help each person to improve. If you have a question, it will be answered in a timely manner and with great respect no matter the subject.

Lori Houghton is an excellent professor. No matter how you learn she's willing to help and is easy to reach even outside of the blackboard shell/class. She is very respectful and goes above and beyond to accommodate her students that ask for extra help. She makes it extremely easy to follow the course and makes it very easy to pass.

I can confidently say that this is one of the best professors I have ever had. She gave amazing feedback that was constructive instead of destructive. You could really tell that she actually cared about the content she was teaching us, which was extremely motivating. I would definitely recommend her as a professor and this course as well!

This course requires a lot of reading. However, Professor Lori Houghton- Estes truly cares about her student's success and wants to help anyway she can.

Lori was one of my favorite professors thus far. She was very attentive to my questions about the class with quick responses.

I've really enjoyed the semesters I've had with Lori and the content of the classes. Her passion/care for her work/students is evident. She's understanding while providing helpful feedback,going above and beyond. The work requires a good amount of reading, writing, and thinking.However, she gives an ample amount of time to complete the coursework.

Gives very clear instructions and feedback, would take a class from her again.

Get ready to write a lot of essays for this class. The professor overall is very lovely and is very clear on what she wants your to do. every 2 weeks there will be at least 3 papers due usually all needing to be at least 2 pages long. There is also reading you need to do but she posts everything except for "The Awakening" as a pdf for you to view.

Houghton is amazing, honestly my favorite instructor so far. She always gives feedback; she's encouraging and cares about each student individually.

Mrs. Houghton's class was by far my favorite. She gets you to open your mind. She has been an inspiration. She has inspired me to consider writing in the future and to keep using my voice. She's made a difference in my life & her words will last with me forever. The workload was very manageable. If you are considering talking her class, do it!!

Professor Houghton was such an amazing person to be taught by. Every week I knew there would be plenty of ways to explore and discover material I would not find in my day to day life. She kept this course interesting and more than that she made it important. I would love to have her again!

Great availability of resources, feedback, and quick grading turn around. Any questions were answered quickly and the assignments were challenging but not overwhelming. Also I just really liked her personality, fun and approachable.

She was always willing to provide extra examples & feedback! She had also had multiple forms of media to teach each unit. this included various works, videos, powerpoints, and discussion boards.

This class is healing. You write alot but it is your own voice and experience and how it aligns to the reading. It is paced well and the professor will work with you on sensitive topics. Would a 100 percent take this class again.

Houghton's teaching style did not leave you to figure it out yourself with little to no help. Her lectures & "Final Thoughts" included her own observations on reading assignments & archetypes, which is extremely helpful if you have difficulty determining the underlying meanings. She also sends consistent due date reminders. I don't have any cons!

She is so caring, sweet, & involved. I loved having discussions with her about the material! The material itself is inspiring & emotional. There is a lot of reading & writing involved in this class, but it was fun! If I have the opportunity to take another of her classes I definitely will!

While the reading in the class is pretty lengthy, it is all worth it because the topics are so interesting and she is so helpful within class. The assignments make you think but are not that difficult if you read everything. She is an overall great teacher and I feel everyone who has taken her class will only have positive things to say about her.

Lori was absolutely amazing!!! She really cares about her students success and takes the time to get to know students personally. The work is very easy, but she has many, many resources for students to use should they need them. Not only is it easy, it is interesting. Overall, this class deserves a 11/10!!

Professor Houghton is the best prof I have ever had! The courses she teaches are very interesting and can always be applied to real life. She equips her students with many resources so that they can understand the content well. She is very kind and understanding and I always felt comfortable reaching out to her if I needed help. This is the second class of Lori's I have taken, and I am taking her again in the fall. Her coursework is easy but very informational, and she allows you to add a piece of personality into all of your work! Her feedback is AMAZING, and she is very clear on her expectations. Anyone would be lucky to have Mrs. Houghton!

I really enjoyed this class overall and I would love to have Mrs. Lori as a professor again. She is very laid back and explains things in a way that shows genuine care for her students. I will miss her and she has taught me so much with her teaching content that she provides and it is something that I can use in my daily life.

Lori was best professor I ever had! I was taking this course as a pre- requisite for my Nursing degree and I am beyond thankful I chose this class! I would take 100 more classes if Lori was the instructor! I put 3 for difficult; the class itself isn't difficult its challenging and makes you think. Professor Lori is amazing - approachable, caring, and creates an engaging learning environment. The course has a lot of reading and writing, but with the support of resources like Unstuckstudy, it's a rewarding experience.

She was super nice and lenient on grading the essay questions we answered. She actually read our responses and gave specific feedback on the points that were made. You can tell she really cares about the subject

I loved having her! I had her for 2 different classes. Beware, her classes are heavy Writing and Reading, or at least mine was. This is not an “easy out” class, she does make you participate. I love that she individually reads everything and leaves detailed feedback for students, the definition of what a professor should be for their students!

The online material is set up extremely well, she provides many resources for students. Ms. Lori also provides such amazing feedback with each assignment. She works with students if they need it and has been very understanding and supportive! I am a soon to be grad, Lori has impacted my life and I am very honored to have had her as my professor!

I definitely recommend taking Women's and Gender Studies with Professor Houghton. I really enjoyed the material we read and watched. Professor Houghton is great at giving clear and detailed instructions, I never felt confused about what we had to do, and she was always supportive and encouraging. It ended up being one of my favorite classes.

This professor was incredible! Definitely one of my favorite teachers I've ever had. She is very thorough with her feedback and actually reads everything you write for this class. There's quite a bit of writing to be done, but it's not difficult and actually very engaging. She did an excellent job of helping everyone in the class succeed.

I genuinely enjoyed WGS 201 with Lori Houghton, she's very caring and inspirational. She engages with students, briefly explains instructions, and allows us sufficient time to work on activities. To be sincere, this class includes much effort for writing, BUT it is very engaging and understanding. In the end, I truly enjoyed this class.

Professor Houghton-Estes leads a tough class, but it is so worth it. I felt challenged all semester and am so proud of the growth I have experienced this semester. She is a great communicator responding immediately to all emails with questions. Grades were posted in a timely fashion. I recommend this class to anyone who likes to write.

Lori was a great teacher this semester and I had a blast taking her Women's Literature Class! Fair warning though: if you are taking ENG 234, then be prepared to write a lot of essays, like 4-6 every 2-3 weeks, based off of short stories or poetry. The prompts are self explanatory and it is essentially just answer these questions in essay form.

I tho9ught Ms Houghton-Estes was tough but fair. You were expected to approach the subject matter as an adult and dig in to and understand. It is an important thing for young women to learn and she did a good job of making us think about the subject matter

I just took intro to film as a summer course and would highly recommend Lori as a professor! She grades very easily and gives great feedback. As long as you read the given material and do all your work you will do great in this class!

Just amazing. I love how she captured the way women have been viewed throughout the history of society. Especially, how she projected the African American women, and her course of learning was superb. I love the way she designs the class's teaching and learning studies.

Professor Houghton really cares about quality over quantity so as long as you put thought and effort into the discussions you cannot fail. There are quite an amount of pieces to read but a lot of them are short poems and stories that have good and insightful material. She is also very understanding when it comes to extensions.

I look forward to taking another course with her and recommending this course to everyone I can.
