the best and the only prof who should teach 1st year chem, so that people pass.

Very good prof, the next Mila Jojovich

Nice prof but didn't prep us properly for the tests given by course coordinator
very approachable. Tries to explain things.

Awesome Prof!!! Helped me understand Chem so much better than I did before!!
Pretty good but it's hard to pay attention in that class no matter who teaches
very nice and motherly

This prof can help yuo to actaully pass chem! Shes awesome!
Average prof. But the course coordinator is a jerk
Best prof I've had yet
Very interesting and enjoyable to talk to.
Had her own agenda. Didn't prepare us for Balahura's nasty exam
she is the nicest lady i have ever met, makes you wonder why others are so rude
just repeats notes, not very good knowledge
Very encouraging towards kids, and provides lots of helpful examples.
made killer chem easy!
easy to understand, helpful if you go to her office. actually has some humour
Very nice prof... of all the chem profs I like her notes the best... it's all clear, organized, typed up on overhead, and with plenty of examples! She also gives hints to tricky questions on exams/quizzes. I hate chem but she helped a lot!
satan, enough said
She has to be the worste professor I've ever experienced! She doesn't teach anything, and worries more about her hair during lecture than she does her students.
KILLER CHEM!!!!! Nothing prepared anybody for the Final...same as Chem 1050
Aweful! Worste prof ever!
good prof, explains concepts clearly~she kills killer chem
Great prof!!! Wasn't scared of chem anymore after being taught by her! THANKS!!!
Teaches right from the overheads, doesn't explain concepts in great detail aside from her notes
great prof and person...helped me learn chem like nobodys business...very friendly
Seems like a nice lady, but was hopeless at teaching me chemistry.
Best prof. Very helpful and funny. I LOVE HER.
Great Prof
so great! a wonderful lady
She's so nice and smart but it would be nicer if we got some tougher examples to help us through tests and whatnot.
nice person, wants to help everyone... but wastes so much time taking individual questions from a class of 600. Half the class is spent taking stupid questions that have answers in the course manual, so not as much time is spent on helpful problems
I really don't care that she lived on a dairy farm, waste of class time. (Does she really have a pH.d.?)
Good teacher. I liked her jokes. Really nice too
errr... wasnt very good in the lecture
very focused and a teaches at a good pace. She;s got a good attitude and is very approachable.
Made class IMPOSSIBLE!! worst prof ever..did not learn anything from her..<woof>..
Horrible prof! There is no point of going to class, she can't teach!
she tries too hard to please everyone, so gets too little accomplished. She also blends in with everyone, so it's easy to lose her as she walks around the room. She's famous!
really cant focus in class, and if you have no clue about chemistry, she's incredibly hard to follow!!!
Though she was helpful outside of class, I never understood her examples and her lessons were so boring. I hope to God that I get another prof next semester. She made even basic chem examples hard!
Well...I failed, and actually did attend lecture.
Ok....she got the quadratic formula WRONG.
I used to like chem, i haven't gone to her class in 3 weeks, and its what, 5 weeks into the semester?

Sure likes to have individual conversations with students during lectures... leaving about 399 people wondering what's so interesting.
I had Dr. Jones for both first year chemistry's and I think that she's a great teacher! Her notes are organized so that you learn the theory/equations/etc then you do practice questions. Don't write everything down, just LISTEN, pay attention!
It has been a pleasure to take this course with this professor. Nice lady.
Shedoes a bad job of explaining. Instead she askes students to answer, but doesn't really repeat what they say, so it's hard to know what we're even talking about let alone how the chemistry is done!
Don't know why so many people dislike her. I liked her teaching style. Gave the class a lot of possible quiz/midterm/exam problems, which really helped.
Probably one of the best and friendliest professors I've ever had. Willing to stay hours after lecture to help or chat. AND she had to deal with much crap from the students in her lecture. Good job Dr. Jones!!

one of the best i've ever had
I found that she was a very poor professor. She did not show how to do the work, rather she showed us how to eliminate all the wrong answers in a multiple choice question to find the correct one. I can't believe they let her teach!
Boo, not a great teacher, she was very unclear in class, and her exams were bull s#$t! Very dissapointed in her.....
DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED!
I guess I have to give a good rating to her, because she was helpful, and clear... but I couldn't stand her, I stopped going to lecture because she was too SLOW, I couldn't even take it! It was like we got nowhere everyday! This is university, not kindergarten!!!
I did not like her teaching sytle in lecture and found her to be confusing. However, she does seem to be very concerned with students and is approachable.
I had her for 2 semesters straight.. That made me despise chemistry, especially for 1050. Never went to class, all she did was read off the notes. She did offer help though, but in all, more like self-taught course. All I really have to say is "Ksp". Everyone in W03 would understand :/
What a nut bar! I almost failed because of her very poor teaching methods. I have to wonder how people like her even get their PHD's.
dam hot
She's a great teacher, those who don't like her teaching are those who talked during the entire class (especially right behind me) and blamed her for not understanding the concepts and for failing the midterm. I would love to have her as a teacher again.
Really nice person but definitely shouldn't be teaching any intro courses. I failed CHEM*1040 when I had her and the next time I took it with Joe Prockipak and ended up getting 80+. JP does a much better job of teaching material to intro students, so if you have a choice, pick him.
1 word describes Lori. "AWESOME"
Very pleasant person; good prof who spends time ensuring her students understand the material; excellent online notes!!!! very personable professor
I hear she's helpfull, but DAMN is that class boring. She caters to the slowest students, and can't keep the attention of the class. Don't go to class, read the internet notes, and get an A.
Great prof. if you didn't like her it's probably because you slacked off or talked through the lectures
i used to like chemistry. but not anymore. don't go to lecture, unless you're one of the few that needs to go thru material VERY slowly.
Horrible teacher, made me hate chemistry...
Very clear, goes through material in detail to ensure everyone in the class understands. Boring for people who already understand it. But the slower people matter too, so in this respect, she was an awesome prof.
She's one of the nicest professors I've ever met. I love how she loves her job and cares about the students. You'll get a good grade in her class if you're willing to work hard on it.
She's so nice, honestly. I spent so long in her office and she had so much patience. She explained every single question to me. People blame her for their bad marks b/c they talk in class.
I'm so happy I have her next semester! Dr. Jones is so funny and nice. She is so passionate about her subject. When you talk with her outside of class, she'll go off in many, many tangets telling you her life stories. I love her, she's great!
Excellent professor
A very helpful Prof. She definitely loves what she does. Caters very much to the slower students in the class so those who do understand may get bored. However, she literally does everything she can to ensure you pass if you're willing to put the effort in
Very...motherly. But honestly, so helpful and nice. I love her so much!
honest, awesome, and most of all, i loved her chem joke she made.
I found this professor very difficult to understand - should do a more intense review for struggling students - outline the equation and HOW YOU GOT IT!!
She cannot teach chemistry
Such a nice prof! Realy prepped us for the final! If you pay attentin and do the problems she gives you, you will be fine.
a really nice prof! great for one on one help!wonderful, smart lady!
Best. Professor. Ever. Period.
what a babe brains and beauty a deadly combo
Amazing woman. Always willing to help. If she's using the iClickers its great, but WarMem is not the building for her... Roz all the way
Love Lori Jones she teaches Chem 1040 like its a 7th grade science class, FUN and easy to learn in her classroom. I thoroughly enjoyed my time spent in that class.
An excellent professor! If you have the option of taking a class with her, do it!
One word defines it all - INCREDIBLE... I never once took an interest in Chemistry until I had the opportunity to learn from her - she's what all profs should aspire to be like. :)
awesome prof! makes everything crystal clear :)
great professor, very helpful.. will stop lectures to answer any questions..
Pretty good teacher for the most part, good notes only some flaws here and there with understanding/explaining
I'm sure she's a great person, but I don't think she should be teaching. I couldn't hear a word she said and her notes were just as confusing as her lectures. I had to teach everything myself.
whats up with all the kintergarden pictures on her slides? did not enjoy this class at all. she wastes so much time.
I had to TA chem 1040 and had to deal with her on occasion. I found that Lori is a snob and thinks she's smarter than everyone else. I found her knowledge of chemistry to be generally lacking. She needs to work on her social skills as well as learning chemistry and improving her lectures if she hopes to become a good prof. I wouldn't recommend her.
Very nice lady, and helpful during lectures. She used an I-clicker to keep the class engaged and ensure people have an idea of what they're doing. She has no problem going over problems with you. Content was tough, so make sure you keep up with the work/practise questions!
Great teacher, if you use her notes and do owl + the questions she gives not hard to pull off a 90! Also she responses to emails like crazy, awesome teacher hope I have her for 1050
People are just stupid. They did not do their work and complained they got like 30% on the midterm etc.I did the work she assigned and it was not hard to get 90+. She basically tests you on what she teaches you in class. And she is great at responding to emails
At first, I was not a huge fan of how Lori spent her time in lecture as she skipped over the harder concepts like they were nothing. Asking questions in lecture isn't helpful, but going to her office hours DEFINITELY is- she went over the whole midterm with me in a way that actually made sense and that is without a doubt the reason I passed.
worst prof ever, i had her for general chem in first year and hated her alot her notes werent helpful, and that was first year, i did do well too no thanks to her. this year for phys chem she was horrible exams were so confusing and did not correlate with assigned problem sets, both midterms had a failing class avg. w8 to take it if shes the prof
Super nice and sweet prof! She is helpful during office hours and is dedicated to the class. The midterm was a little too hard and the class is a lot of work due to labs and assignments but that is out of her control. (course coordinator decides)
Only Lori can make even endothermic reactions seem HOT!
good prof. gives you everything you need to prepare for the midterm/final.
Quite nice person. Very organized, and she does care about students success (kinda reminded me of my mom lol)
worst prof ever. I had physical chem with her and she is the most terrible prof ever. I had to drop my course last year and both midterm avgs were under 40% FAIL!!! there is only one prof who teaches this course and i need this course so taking it again this year. WORST PROF I EVER HAD.
She was great when I had to take chem 1040 so I was happy when I saw that she was teaching PHYS Chem, boy did I not know what I was signing up for. She makes this class as hard as you can possibly make it. I excelled in 1st year chem (84% chem ave) but she made her midterm so hard that the class ave was a 39%!
Her midterms are evil! The first midterm's average is 39%! Her notes are just a disaster, only full of derivation and writings, little problems solving.
STOP TEACHING CHEMM!!!!!!!!
Stop teaching. Worst notes, hardest midterms, stuck up,makes easy concepts harder.....equals worst prof of all time.
Dr. Jone's lectures and notes are well done and well organized but in my experience with her, strictly physchem, they have lacked the ability to make a meaningful connection between what she thinks she is conveying and what is being conveyed. The problem sets, quizzes and previous midterms do nothing to prepare you for the horrendous midterms.
There is a serious disconnect between the prof and the students. The midterms did not reflect how the material was presented in class. I overheard a conversation where she was abrogating her responsibility by slamming the intellectual abilities of her students. I take exception to this as I am an A student in all of my other classes.
Have her for first year chemistry. She's amazing, holds attention, know's what she's doing. One of the better profs i've ever had.
I have her for Chem 1050. I feel bad that everyone is slamming her on here because I think she is an excellent prof. Chem is one of those subjects that is easy to fall asleep in, but Jones does a good job of presenting the material in a way that keeps you engaged. I actually like going to chem when she teaches it. You're lucky if you have her!
Horrible prof, dropped this course before the midterm. Skips over hard concepts, tells you to fill in the blanks yourself and does not provide enough examples.
Takes forever to get through material. Treats people very young
Have her for chem 1040. She's amazing. One of the best professors i've ever had. Her notes make it so easy to follow along and are extremely well organized. This course requires you to go to class and keep up but that is regardless. She is easily one of the best profs i've ever had.
She made 1050 harder than Chem 1040.
She does treat people young. Sarcastic jokes about things 'we should've remembered' on top of 5 other new courses. She's nice one on one but overall, I am not too impressed with her teaching. Midterm is just... tricks all over the place (which is worse when your adrenaline rush is high and you may not see the little sneaky tricks she adds in)..
Easy concepts made difficult by trick questions. Prepare to see things for the very first time on the exams.
I think she is great and even better than the other 1st yr chemistry teachers as she takes her time to explain concepts to avoid another class full of students who are repeating the course.
Jones' tests focus on trick and combination questions, so be on your guard. The average was 57 (direct quote: "A somewhat high average this semester.") and 54 respectively for midterm 1 and 2. Jones' lectures are mostly helpful as review; doing the readings ahead of time is a must, but skipping lectures means you won't know what is on the exam.
She does care about students and is very helpful when you approach her. Phys chem is a tough course, but it is definitely doable. I didnt like the prequizzes before each class , but they can help you with your mark. Oh, there are also a lot of alternate marking schemes to help you get the best grade.
She is useless and not only that is a stickler for protocol. I would not recommend you take anything associated with her ever.
Thank god I never have to take this course again.
shes solid
Powered through the content really quickly and didn't do much to help people who were confused. Was really unhelpful in solving technical things with the online portions of the class.
Lori Jones is an ok prof. She lays out her lectures in a pretty clear format, though they can be very dull. The content isn't difficult and tests are very fair.
Jones is a very good prof. She explains things really well and focuses on why the class is important for you to take which good to know. She makes things very clear and prepares you very well. She is very nice and also cares about her students. I would recommend taking this class with her
Her notes are completely unorganized and straight up wrong in some cases (ie mixing up the signs when the sign is the most important part of the problem). Lectures are dry, examples are hard to follow when she actually takes the time to go through them and not just assign them for homework. Don't even get me started on the flow charts.
yay lori
Lori was an okay prof for a very challenging course. She answers questions students ask and is approachable but the lecture material was confusing (she doesn't do very many in-class examples). If you have to take chem 1050, take it with Lori. If you don't have to take the class... then just don't.
She is an okay prof but has a tendency to not simplify concepts and she says the same things over and over again (In terms of).She is one of the nicest people you could possible want for a chem prof. I would not recommend not having her for a prof(especially in first year)simply for the fact she dosent explain herself well or dumb the content down.
Gives good lecture notes, but I found the example questions to be really scattered and unorganized. Had a hard time relating what we learned to the practice problems.
I realize the questions she taught in class were way much easier than exam. If questions in class like 1+1, than exam is much more like (9999999*10384)/0.283%+2847575 balabala . And also half of students failed in this class but she told us use late course drop instead of thinking a way help us to pass. Never trust her questions used in class!!!
Lori Jones is very helpful if you go to her for help. She is very friendly and always has her office door open. People always say she's a tough grader, but I think thats just the nature of the material. Study hard and you will do well, and ask for help when needed. The lecture notes are a bit detailed, but class summaries for each day are helpful.
She posts all her notes online but she leaves random blanks (like 1 thing every 3 pages). Should have more blanks to follow and write in class or none at all. Lectures are so boring she just talks and talks instead working through the problems with us. It's ok if you learn by listening, she's not bad. Hard to follow and focus in class for me though
Half the class is spent reviewing things from the previous class then once you start she flies though any material she has. Expects you to already know everything and very rarely is able to explain things. Tests will be brutal be sure to study a week or 2 before just to pass the test. Overall just not a good prof.
The course itself is pretty easy, especially compared to CHEM*1040. Lori isn't horrible, but her lectures are very long and boring. However, she explains concepts well.
Easy professor teaching an easy course. Her notes are a bit cluttered but I didn't have much of a problem studying off of them
She's very dry, lectures drag a lot. Often found that her use of powerpoints prevented her from clearly explaining steps involved in calculations and in general understanding. Overall she was a decent prof but she added very little to what you could find in the textbook which kept me from feeling motivated in this course.
I don't suggest to take this course if is not for required credit, the worst course I've taken, class average only got around 50, and almost half of students dropped after midterm. So don't take it!! A serious suggestion.
The class itself was very well taught by Lori Jones, she had the best lecture notes and resources available, was doing well the entire course however, the exam was awful, random, very challenging and unlike the rest of the course
Honestly not that bad, pretty good actually. If you print out the notes she provides, go to class, and do some practice questions in the text book every now and again you'll be golden. Seriously, just put a little time and effort into the class and she'll provide the rest. She's easy to understand and was probably one of my best profs in 1st year.
The worst prof on campus. Just the worst
I found Dr. Jones to be a great professor! She is very thorough and covers concepts well. She has great notes which are easy to follow. She is very clear on what is expected of you and how to achieve good grade. The midterm is next to identical to the practice ones she posts on Courselink. I enjoyed her very much overall.
Lectures are very dry, and topics are not explained well. She uses notes with limited amounts of fill-in-the-blanks, and doesn't take the time to explain problems and examples.
She is one of the the best profs I had in first year. Her lectures were well organized and the notes were extremely helpful. I really liked having her.
Totally recommend! She is the best. An amazing and friendly prof even outside of class. Does everything she can to make students understand and very organised!
Jones is extremely boring, sorry! I can barely stay awake. I feel like I take away very little from her lectures, and can do well without going to class; her notes are barely any fill-in-blank and she reads off her slides most of the time. Doing masteringchem yourself and comparing with the notes (that she would read anyway) would help you.
Loved Lori Jones!!!!!!!! She is such an inspirational woman and I aspire to be just like her when i graduate from university! I loved how she spoke with a mono-tone voice during her lectures and strolled around while she was teaching. I highly recommend taking a Lori Jones Lecture at least once in your life it is so life changing!
She was a really helpful professor, the best one I had in first year.
For a first year course, Prof Jones outlines exactly what you need to know for exams and labs. She is helpful when asked questions and wants to help you. I found it difficult at times to relate the lab material to lectures as we often were doing labs on topics we had not covered in class yet. Good prof, but I hope they can reformat CHEM1050 better.
The lectures were very dry and boring. I am a chem major and even I couldn't bring myself to pay attention in her class. Her notes are well-written and the fill in the blank parts are obvious, so you don't really need to go to lecture.
A bad class with a bad prof. Found Lori to be condescending, but she is a very intelligent woman and had a lot of office hours. Unfortunately, similar to 1040, the course combined with the profs and course coordinators is designed to make you fail. I found 1050 easier than 1040 though.
Honestly one of my favourite profs. She is extremely helpful and accessible outside of lectures. If you go to her office with a question, you will not leave that office until you understand it. Well organized lectures, the textbook also helps a lot. FInal was fair, midterm was a bloodbath though.
Her lectures are aweful. She structures her slideshow projected on the display different from the lecture notes so half the time you spend figuring out where the example is in your notes. She gives minimal examples in class, and when she lectures she gives drawn out confusing explanations. Having a monotone voice is just the icing on the sad cake:(
The best way to go through this course is by teaching it to yourself Dr. Jones has amazing notes but she is not that good teaching them, to be completely honest I failed the first midterm but it was because I was too dumb to ask her for help when I needed it, I had to completely focused on this course
Love the prof! Very respectful and nice tries to interact with class and give lots of examples useful for the exams. Dr. Jones lectures based on presentations so if it's not your style of learning so it would probably be boring to you.
Joe pro is where it's at
The whole course is honestly a joke. Her notes don't match her slides, her voice puts you to sleep. I don't know what she's saying half the time and she's not helpful at all. Better off getting the filled in notes from a friend and learn it yourself.
She does not do good lectures at all. Could not concentrate through class
Lori was a fine prof for a first year course. She was not the coordinator and didn't write the exams but they were fair. She was a little boring in lecture and notes weren't the best but she did explain things well and was helpful when asked. Chem 1050 is a lot easier if you can pass 1040, which Lori often coordinates.
Lori Jones is a good professor and knows her stuff. The powerpoints are fill in the blanks/problems that she helps you solve, and also leaves extra practice problems for you to do yourself. Her lectures can be content heavy leaving you confused and sleepy, but this is just the nature of a chemistry course. Labs were better than in 1040.
This course was much easier than CHEM*1040, but the prof was terrible. Almost fell asleep in most of the lectures because she paces through the hall and talks. This is very ineffective in this particular course, as it relies heavily on math and equations that must be manipulated. You're better off self-teaching the course to yourself.
She is extremely bland and hard to follow as you get very bored throughout the lecture. Nice and clearly very smart lady, just not very good at teaching one of the harder first year courses for bsc.
Notes are all over... she doesn't know how to properly teach a class! The worst part is she isn't even nice one on one... Thinks she's smarter than you and makes stupid sassy comments. Avoid if possible
Physical Chem gets a really bad rep but it is not as bad as people make it out to be. Lori Jones is very reasonable and if you meet with her one on one she is more than willing to help you as much as you need. If you go to class she often has questions on the midterms/exams taken right from class. Exam is much easier than the midterms aswell.
She talks FOREVER and does not know how to teach. I'm sitting in her class right now and have no idea what's going on. She is super boring and pulls so much out of her ass its ridiculous. I highly recommend a different prof... anyone... just NOT her.
Prof. Jones' lectures might not be as entertaining, but they are very informative and clear. She tends to go over examples with high clarity. She's also super caring during the office hours and would explain in a very clear manner. 10/10 would recommend her for CHEM1050 prof.
Lori really knows her stuff and has awesome notes too. Always does examples that are on the final and midterm. Lectures can be a bit content heavy but she does a great job explaining! Would definitely take her again
wasnt even in her section, just skipped my own lectures to take hers instead. shes absolutely the best prof that teaches this course
Lori Jones is only a good professor if you learn by listening, and even then she is so dry, monotone and bad at explaining things that it is still difficult. She does not ever show step by step solutions for a problem, which would be helpful for a class with math and equations, and she often strays from what the question is even asking
It is so easy to zone out in her class, very boring and un-interesting
She posts all her lecture notes online for you to print off and fill in the blanks and does problems that she breaks down In steps. Everything could be filled in from the textbook, but the textbook isnt need to do well. Lectures can be dry, but she genuinely cares about her students and is the only prof that sits in the chem help room to tutor
This class has so many things unlike the normal class, it has pre-labs, post-labs, dry-labs, and they make you pay for the grade booster >: . It is a lot of work so only take this course if necessary, I find her lectures not engaging so it is hard to stay focused.
I had here for both CHEM 1040 and 1050, she's an all around good professor but her lectures can be very dry. As her lecture notes have missing information you need to fill out I wouldn't suggest skipping. The courses themselves were not enjoyable and beware the midterms and exams are extremely tough if Lori jones are writing them...
Dr. Jones is a great professor who gives you all the tools you need to succeed. Yeah sometimes lectures can be boring, but what do you expect from a class on thermodynamics and kinetics? People need to give her more respect, she's a good teacher if you pay attention and actually go to class.
She teaches the content well, going through lots of examples in class. She offers lots of help hours so make sure to ask for help early on. Her teaching style is a little dry, and is difficult to focus in an 1 1/2hr lecture with her. Any midterms and exams written by her are really tough and hard to do well on, so make sure to know the content well
Rude.
So rude. whenever someone asks for help she does not repond, she makes you hunt for the answer yourself.
This year was spent online, and she showed no sympathy for students or their situations from working at home. She assigns way too many things, and is extremely content heavy and is not lenient when it comes to handing in assignments late. I would never take a class with her again, this class has made me cry more times than I can count on my fingers
Prof Jones was the course coordinator and she was super helpful with extensions and answering questions. BUT!! her exam and first midterm were like chem on crack. I've never been so confused in my life it had every single possible exception to the rules on it which sucked a lot. Very nice lady overall but the questions on these things were rough.
midterm tests were hard but if you studied and reviewed all the material than you probably got a fair 70 ,however the exam was next to impossible, pretty sure Albert Einstein would have failed it too. she responds very quickly to emails , not that they are even helpful what she's says. if you ask a question she will answer it with another question
Literal Gem. Content was difficult, but go to her office hours and she is so helpful and nice. Office hours are the reason I passed, and with flying colours.
One of the nicest profs I've ever had. Really cares about her students.
Lets start with the average for the midterm was a 33 so that's great. And continue with the fact, that she, doesn't, know how to speak with, out pausing at the most random, m points in a sentence. Literally cannot follow a word she says, and just not good at explaining any concept really.
Lori Jones was about as uninteresting as it gets. Her provided notes are crammed, and her slides were filled with bolded and overly-coloured notes so they were hard to read. Content wise lecture weren't crazy, it just wasn't presented well, which made it hard to focus. She also rushed the back half of lectures and still went over time every lecture
Not gonna lie... I was pretty lost every class. But in terms of online school? You're 100% set with her. ALLL you need to do, is spend the few days before the midterms/exams doing the practice quizzes she posts. They are EXACTLY the same as the actual exams. I swear I was so confused during lectures, and I got perfect on my midterms with this.
A lot of people who I know did not like Lori Jones because they thought she didnt teach well. Personally I have never had a better chemistry teacher. I need a teacher who explains why things are how they are not just random facts and Lori made learning chemistry much more intuitive than my high school teacher. She will give you the tools you need.
Tough class, tough quizzes. Had to rely heavy on the textbook since I did not like how the professor approached the subject. Very unclear course material.
I took both first year chemistry courses with Dr. Jones and I loved it! You have to understand that gen chem is a hard and textbook dependent class but Dr. Jones was always willing to provide detailed explanation and also post practice questions weeks before the tests. Even outside of class, Dr. Jones wants you to succeed! She is truly awesome.
just sucks lol. so picky and power struggles
Where do I begin? The 3 months I've known Lori Jones for have been the darkest times of my life. The amount of times I've emailed about significant figures just to be told they're none negotiable, with a pitiful upside-down smiley face to help ease my worries. I just know she wants me to drop the course so she can be the only woman in STEM
literally designed the course to be a weeder course. made the assignments too hard and wouldn't help you
As coordinator she was OK, but as a Prof not the best. Beware of her lectures, she'll just read over her slides and refuse to go through examples, even though nobody knows how to do them! It was very difficult to understand even the easiest concepts with her. If you want to have a greater understanding, I'd recommend working through the textbook!
No clear answer whenever I'd ask a question and just generally rude to me.
This was a really difficult course and I don't blame her for it, but this class required a lot of work and you had to really be on your game
It was nearly impossible to learn when attending prof Jones' lecture periods. She makes everything very confusing for no reason and I ended up just teaching the material to myself. Class material should not have been that difficult to explain.
She does not know how to teach. Everyone in the lecture is lost or watching videos to learn the material themselves. Her lecture slides are all over the place. I can barely keep up because shes so monotone. I found youtube videos from 2009 more useful.
Jones is an ok professor in my opinion. Lectures can often be slow and monotone, and hard to follow due to colour coded slides. She does care about her students though, and is very clear about how and when she can be reached outside of class time for questions. The course itself is tough, and my number one tip is focus on your Sig figs!
Her lectures were monotone at times and not the most engaging, though she tried her best to get people interested. Content was explained decently well though and she cares about her students. Always available after class for questions and willing to stay to explain a concept if you don't get it. Not an awesome prof but not bad either.
Lori Jones is a stark contrast from DeLaat. She is caring and wants you to pass. Though she seems a bit monotone in her lectures, she is always kinds and you can see that she encourages participation. I am terrible at chemistry and for once I didn't barely pass because of her. She made me not dread chemistry.
Graded excessively tough and pretty unreasonably. Wouldn't tell us the averages for the midterms, probably because of how terrible they were. Doesn't seem to believe in curving test grades. Lectures were impossible to keep up with, but her summary notes were good so just worked through those instead of going to many lectures.
She posts notes so late. The notes are unorganized. Makes me not want to look at her stuff. Her lectures and monotone
She would barely reply to emails and her solutions would be posted so late. The notes she gave were unstructured and really hard to use.
Her work packages were really hard to understand as they were unorganized and the questions were everywhere. It was hard to segregate which questions you did and what you didn't do. It would be nice if she segregated the questions and the work together, or at least had actual separation in content rather than random headings everywhere.
Auzzennau (idk how to spell her name) is way better. She actually gives homework and material neatly. Her homework and material is so not neat and her lectures and crazy boring. DO NOT GO TO HER. GO TO ANYONE BUT HER.
Lectures very quickly and does not slow down to properly work though examples. Often wastes the start of lecture and then squishes a lot of content into the last five minutes at immense speed. Not easy to learn under.
talks too much
this lady does not stop talking. she asked us for feedback but she didn't change anything. yaps nonstop. she knows her stuff but shes not good at engaging effectively with the class cause everyone is either super confused or bored out of their mind.
Talks so much. Non stop yapping. If you can keep your eyes open in this class you should do fine.
i dont like her.
very horrible, boring lectures.
She knows what she is doing, but lectures like she is trying to demonstrate how well she knows it. She doesn't seem to understand how confusing she is when she rambles, and should post more content to fill out notes independently.
Professional Waffler. PHD in Yappology. One of her special talents is to somehow make an hour and a half lecture seem like 4 hours. Her lectures are incredibly dull and she is simply not good at explaining any key concepts in a meaningful way. The Organic Chemistry Tutor on YouTube is going to be your new best friend this semester.
Too fast in lectures unclear explaining
Somehow managed to teach everything except what was important for midterms and finals. Would teach like chemistry was a story. Due to this, midterm averages were extremely low, like under 40%. When I stopped going to lectures, my grade improved. Be prepared to teach yourself. Only positive is she was accessible outside of lecture hours.
shes nice sometimes lectures were hard to sit through and dont sit too close to her or she might ask you to answer one of the questions she puts on the board. talkative and engaging most of the time though, lectures are mainly practice questions which help a lot.
Lori is so kind and approachable. Her lecture slides are easy to follow (and sometimes include chemistry puns) and she is really good at teaching large classes.
The lectures can be hit or miss - sometimes engaging, other times a slog. Definitely use resources like unstuckstudy AI alongside the textbook to really grasp the material. Overall, a challenging but doable class if you're willing to put in the work.
Worst professor I have ever had. I have never seen such unclear explanations. Posts almost no examples and glosses over the topics she focuses on in quizzes and exams. She is rude to people mid-lecture when they ask questions. Blabbed on about not buying the textbook yet continued to reference it in coursework. I taught myself this entire course.
Super friendly and eager to answer questions during/after and during office hours. Some concepts are difficult to understand because the pace of the lectures are pretty quick (not sure if it's her fault or the course content just moves quickly), but again super easy to ask questions. Online notes and examples are super helpful.
Lori teaches with enthusiasm and you can tell that she likes teaching. She tends to talk too much to the point where it gets very boring. Also doesn't seem to think she's at fault for the horrible midterm grades
Notes posted rarely matched the actual slides in class making it extremely difficult to follow along in class and actually understand the material.
Overall really nice prof, the class just tends to be hard. She goes over a lot of content but can go through examples too fast sometimes. Attendance isn't mandatory but I highly encourage you not to skip. Office hours are tricky when busy, but she's good at answering questions
I had Murphy but wish I had Jones. I went to her review session asked questions and everything made sense she explains it in a way that isn't full of terms you don't know. She also will put the theory behind concepts on the midterms and finals so don't think you can skate by without knowing that stuff.
She is just not a nice person. Not understanding and classes were just extremely boring.
Professor Jones was difficult and reluctant to help. When asking questions in a discussion post, or in person during office hours she always makes you feel like you should know the answer to your own question. Lab reports were really difficult to do well on!
This is definitely the worst prof I have ever had. She is not a nice person and not helpful at all. If you ask her a question, she makes you feel dumb for it, and she is very boring and teaches the material like you already know it. If you care about your grades stay away from her.
It was rough
Her lectures were long winded and covered little of importance over the allotted time, a good suggestion is either supplement the course with the online resources provided, great help and cut a lot of the fat from her lectures, or just watch organic chemistry tutorials on YouTube you'll spend half the time listening and get the same substance
she is the worst prof i ever had. Her lectures are so long and boring and she teaches the material like you already know it. She is alsp really rude when you ask her questions. Midterms and exams were set to fail you. She knows people barely pass and many fail in her class and she doesnt do anything to change it but instead seems proud of herself
Lori was singlehandedly able to ruin my first year of university chemistry. Her exams were so difficult and unfair. They were also heavily weighted! The online dry labs grading was SO specific, even if you got the right answer but it was formatted incorrectly, you would lose like 50% of your grade.
The way she teaches is horrible. Her slides are so disorganized and she moves so quickly. She also asks questions during class but doesn't really tell you the answers, leaving you confused. Would not recommend.
The way she lectures is so hard to follow couldn't learn a thing the way she did it, just talks out loud instead of showing examples.
