Great teacher, definitely take her if your taking History 1301. I wish she taught Hist 1302. Really makes stuff clear, teaches well and works with you.
Great teacher, relly knows her history. Easy A
Nice, easy and knows her stuff. All i got to say is easy A. NO book to read, NOTHING.......just very easy tests and offers extra credit if you happen not to make an A already.
A VERY CLEAR UNDERSTANDING TEACHER.IM SO BLESSED TO HAVE TAKEN HER 1302 CLASS. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Dr. Lehtola is very nice and helpful. No textbook needed. All you have to do for the course is to write few easy essays for Midterm and Final, plus a book review. NO TEST ! She's really knows history. Big thanks to her !!!
Really knows her subject. Can tell you everything you need to know about history. Gives you assignments first day of class, you can complete them all and turn them in before they're do, really simple. Her class is all lecture but very interesting. Ask any question she will answer. You can email your homework. Very easy A. Easy to get along with.:)
This teacher is great!!! No questions ask!!! Take her!!!
I have had few professors in my collegiate experience who were so passionate and truly knowledgeable about the subject matter as Lori Lehtola. Her way of teaching leads students to find their own passion within the subject matter. I really enjoyed her class and genuinely had a good time in it.
She was not so understanding to me. I was absent due to an auto accident and did not turn in my mid term paper and was not allowed to turn it in the next day. On the last day, she told me it didn't matter if I received 100 on the final paper, I was not passing the class. I had been receiving very positive feedback during the semester.
OMG! amazing teacher! I've taken her twice. I always hated history till i took her class now i love it! She makes it soo interesting!!
Very clear easy lectures. Lets you know what is going to be on test so you are able to study the material. Highly recommended.
This class was extremely easy, but a lot of the information she gave us wasn't fact checked so she was very misleading about history. If a question was asked most of the time she was unable to answer and would say her expertise was Medieval history and most of her lesson were the conspiracy theories involving history that didn't hold much fact.
Every test except for the final was in essay format... Her method of teaching is to just google topics, people, and talk briefly about them. I never opened the textbook once. Attending class was a joke. You might as well just get the list of topics from a buddy and study those for the final.
Her class was pretty easy. Her first exam was multiple choice-she basically gave us the answers to that. And then for the final she gave us a short answer to write for the final- 5 of them. Other than that she is pretty easy.
Super easy, all test were take home short essays, final the same. No need to show up for class, you never use textbook. Easy A
Exams are entirely lecture-based. Notes are not available nor are PowerPoints, so class and note-taking is mandatory. Took four exams each worth 25%, all essays, three in-class (one short answer) and one take-home final essay. Super easy grader, so long as you get the reasons behind things happening she doesn't care about dates or exact names etc.
I believe she is a great teacher. The way she lectures makes the class interesting. She gives out homework on the internet. The exams were mostly easy, except for one that was based reading a book.
I took this as a May mini. You need to be in class, or at least you did for the mini. Almost everything was an essay. Class was entirely lecture based, so you had to take your own notes. Homework was from "going to the source" and book report was on "fires of jubilee".
She's a great teacher. From the very beginning she tells you what to expect from her class. Will have to read 2 books and write 3-4 essays. The final is multiple choice and she gives you a study sheet a month before. Take her!!!
I would not recommend her to anyone , she was never there, she taught class as if she was telling a story and always got off topic so I was confused most of the time did not give assignments ,very unorganized ...I absolutely hated her & her class
Professor Lehtola is awesome! Remember to read the books and just do the essays. It's not a hard class if you just take notes (you can bring your computers and type notes) and read the books. She even helps you out if you have any questions in regards to the assignments (and the essay exams). Definitely would take her again! :) #TEXTBOOKNOTREQUIRED
if you did not write the essay how she wanted you don't expect to pass. told stories majority off the semester and then expected you to write essays on things she's never discussed. I wouldnt recommend her to nobody at all.
A very sweet voiced professor who will talk about various historical people related to the course and google their pictures for you to see and describe them. Anyhow the lectures wont seem boring, but they aren't exactly necessary either as long as you are aware about where to look up content to make an A as she is very accomodating with the tests.
She's a very nice lady until she accused me of plagiarism. Thats when everything change. When I went back to confront her about it she told me to forget it and continue with the class.
She is an awesome teacher. As long as you turn in your work you will pass. I think she gives extra credit for attendance and participation. Her assignments are very easy as long as you read. She is a very motivational and I love the way she teaches. Take notes, they will help with all assignments.
Dr. Lehtola is an easy grader, loves to talk. Rambles and goes off topic often. Taken for Summer session II, no text book required. Participation is key, don't fall asleep. Not your typical history class, easiest A I've ever received! Take her now! No homework, 4 take-home exam papers! Just participate, you'll pass! teacherspet
She is very nice I like her JUST DO THE WORK COME TO CLASS DAILY I WOULD RECOMMEND
Wow she is amazing TAke her you wont regarated Take her during summer you will pass
Easy A
Okay yes! She is an EXTREMELY EASY A! But it is the most boring class you could ever take! She stands at the front and talks for an hour and a half. There is also a video project but its not that hard. Warning: Extremely Liberal- do NOT voice your views because she will shoot them down in a heart beat! Not the best experience but easy A!
She is a nice teacher but all she does is lecture and when it comes to your final grade, she will not help you with extra points
She's not a phenomenal teacher, but she's not bad either. Definitely leans towards the "good side", but is also extremely liberal which can also be kind of annoying. You DON'T need to read the books! Save your $ and just wikipedia/google everything to study. You don't need to pay attention to lectures either, but she does roll so be there anyways.
3 Books!!!!!!!!!! 8 chapters to read for midterm!!!!! 2 ESSAYS for the midterm exam!!!! take her class if you want to do nothing but study history ! she dropped people for not attending.
I absolutely hate her!!! She is super strict, tests are super long! If you are working and studying, I recommend you to choose another professor. She gave a 150 pages to read for mid-term and you HAVE TO read in order to know the idea to work on 2 2-pages essays for it. This class is nightmare!!
Take her if you wanna fail. Extremely unclear, uses Wikipedia & talks about multiple topics at the same time. She'll say you plagiarize anything and everything you write. I took her cause of her rating but, please , do not take her
She is obsessed with the idea of plagiarism. Be careful when you write a paper... I saw her grading assignments and midterm with zero, that by the we had to read a 2 books and do 2 essays in less than 90 min. Not clear at assignments... total chaos... like other guys I took her because of her ratings... I regret it ...
She uses google a lot for her lectures. My class was a hybrid and there was no point in attending class or taking notes. She told us about the final a week prior & didnt give us a review, needless to say most failed the final. She means well but she is not that great of a teacher. 1 essay & Project, 2 books 2 papers on each, 100 ?'s on final.
I dont know why she got 3.8 on this site. 1. She is not clear on her lectures and way off topic. 2. Mid-term was book review. 4 question recount the history events with 1-2 page essay for each (and you have to cite) how could you do that in 1.5 hours? 3. Final was a mess. 16 chapters. 100 multiple choices. highest point in our class was 70.
Major pushover. She's a horrible teacher but nice woman overall. I don't recommend having her as a teacher.
Dr. Lehtola is a nice lady. She is an easy grader on essays, which you'll have maybe 4 of. Lectures can be a bit boring. Everything was a little unorganized with the Connect website and the class, in general. Failed the final but still made an A in the class.
This class will give you anxiety if you are a person that likes things in order. She was always late to class and the days she did not show up, she failed to send out emails to let her students know! & mind you the majority of class are commuters! She is unorganized, rude, and extremely unprofessional. DO NOT TAKE!
Just see the percentage of people who would take her again. She is a very nice person... just be patient through the course. If you are failing, ask her for an extra assignment. She is able to help you, just ask her. Show her interest on your grade and the class. She doesn't like quitters. Try as good as you can.
I've had hybrid classes before and I'm fully aware that a large portion of the work falls on us but going to her class seems almost pointless since she has absolutely no lesson plan. She is very disorganized on Canvas and does not respond to emails promptly. She also expects two full length essays in the span of 1hr and 20 mins. Do not recommend.
I highly recommend Dr. Lehtola's class. I already liked history going in, but her class took my interest to a whole new level. She is very passionate about the subject, has a ton of knowledge, gives interesting lectures, and makes connections between historical events and current society that enhanced my learning experience exponentially.
It's hard to say much about how the professor was considering my medical absence, however for the time that I was able to engage with the instructor she had been very nice and seemed to really be passionate in what she taught in a way that was stimulating. She had made us read a book on top of what was already a myriad of assignments that took many
It's hard to say much about how the professor was considering my medical absence, however for the time that I was able to engage with the instructor she had been very nice and seemed to really be passionate in what she taught in a way that was stimulating. However, there are way way way too many assignments to work on.
One word: AVOID. This class was insanely UNORGANIZED, adding UNNECESSARY stress to all. She claimed to have many issues with Canvas but I don't think that Canvas was the issue. Due dates were all over the place, essays were ridiculous (2 complete essays in 1hr 20mins), there was no clear grading criteria, hardly any test preparation given. AVOID
Dr. Lehtola is very knowledgable about history and is able to make it interesting but she also tends to stray away from important class topics to current events. The class was very unorganized, I believe that a crash course on how to use Canvas would be all it takes to transform this professor from a C to a solid B professor
The class was kind of all over the place, unorganized both in canvas and the lectures. Overall a bit confusing . I was mostly lost in this class and eventually had to drop. She's a nice professor but I would recommend a more organized and consistent system.
She is a very well qualified person. She has a lot of knowledge regarding the subject. However, she is a bad teacher because she is reluctant to understanding the full-time student. For our semester (Spring 2017), she expects us to read 250+ pages a week, which isn't a problem but tons of material goes unexplained. Overwhelming study materials.
Horrible teacher. Way too opinionated and unprofessional. Talks way too much about politics and her thoughts on them. Barely shows up to class to even talk about her subject.
Dr Lehtola is a nice lady. However my experience in her class suffered greatly due to the disorganization and complete lack of structure. She lectures using google images and wikipedia. She goes off on strange tangets about current events. She is often late or absent to class, and was even gone during the midterm. Tests lack clear grading criteria
Oh honey, where to begin? She's overall extremely nice! But lectures are disorganized and rarely relevant to what you'll be graded on. Uses wikipedia, no clear grading criteria, difficult tests (essays only), if writing is not your strong suit I cannot reccommend this class because she does little to help you improve your writing. Nice lady though.
i would recommend no one to take this woman class horrible professor always late giving feed back she does not give you a chance to make up your grade nor does she give out extra credit. we had three weeks to read the book the influenza and if you seen the book no way in three weeks do not take her class
If you choose this lady( Lori leytola)she will definitely fail you. She doesn't care about your grade. Just ready to do a whole lots of work and you will still fail. Very Bad instructor that takes pride in failing her students
I took her for 1301 as well. Good for auditory learners. Lots of easy online assignments and quizzes. Read the books: textbook and other books. 4 timed essays. Picky about thesis statements-make a basic one-stick with it; don't fluff it up/make it verbose. Her lectures are interesting-lack supplemental material like powerpoints-just her talking.
Her organization is poor. Keeps changing due dates. Worst HIST professor. Does not grade certain work, even if you try.
Exams are crazy she gives you four essay questions to study for but only choose two out the four, but you dont have clue on which two. Exams are 70% of your grade
PROS: Good professor Isn't really opinionated when it comes to grading If she sees you're working hard, will grade you more easilly Cares more about you learning than doing the work CONS: Grades you harder at the start of the semester ("look, you're learning!") Hard to follow curriculum, unless you put it in your calender (teacher:please do this!)
Provided GREAT material for you to read about history, literature that will stick with you forever. Multiple choice exams STRAIGHT FROM BOOK, some were 2hr limit essays, SO READ THE MATERIAL. Essays short, to the point. Her feedback helps you strengthen your skills. COMMUNICATE with her about what is due and when because it can be confusing.
Loved this PROFESSOR! Appalled with the negative comments about her. She is NOT your day care provider, so do your part as a responsible college student. Read the material, reach out to her if you need help, & she will help direct you if needed. Her course work was more memorable than most classes I've taken & I would take her again without a doubt
I took her online Summer 5 wk course. It required 3 books, and was a little intimidating, but put in effort and you can easily get an A. Participate in online discussions, and as long as you have a basic understanding of the book, the exam will be easy. Its hard to believe she has bad reviews. If you try, and can read and write youll be ok.
The exams are kind of ridiculous. They're basically timed essays in which you need to write about 2 out of 4 topics you are given based off the books you read in the class. However fortunately she is a light grader on the essay exams and is lenient on mistakes.
Dr. L is a wonderful prof! Not sure what the negative comments are about. I'm currently taking her class HIST 1301 and she is awesome! She gives amazing lectures and is super understanding about if you have to miss class as long as it's not a habit! With a little bit of effort, you'll make an A. My only complaint is she likes group projects.
I do not recommend this professor , because she do not give extra credit. She barely responds back when you email and for that reason , I find her to be very unprofessional. To be honest I feel that she can care less about you passing and her actions shows that. However, its just my opinion but I do feel very strong about it .
Her class irl would be easy I bet but she dsn't make announcements re: assignment availability so you constantly have to be checking Canvas to know what your assgnmnt is. Sometimes her assnmts are unclear and assignd the midterm during Sprng Brk to be due the Saturday before break was over. She's passionate but she's disorganized. Don't take online
She is a talker! She will talk until literally the last minute of class. Her lectures are easy to zone out during, but overall she's okay. She's not the best professor but she's good. Get ready for group projects though! She grades individually so the project really aren't that bad. Easy class, but she's a semi-tough grader on essays.
She is extremely disorganized. Halfway into the semester she couldn't tell us how much the midterm would be worth for our final grade. She can't keep due dates straight. She doesn't understand how to use Canvas. I got an A in her class, but if you value your sanity, don't take her.
Her lectures were totally uninteresting. The content was irrelevant most of the time. She does not have clear guidelines for her course, not even the citation style that she wants. I was going to get an A but she gave me a 0 in one big project accusing me of plagiarizing when I had clearly used Chicago style in my citations. Take another prof.!
The lectures are boring. She posts an assignment due on one date, and closes the assignment days before its due. (I have actual proof of this happen to me). Very disorganized syllabus and schedule.
I absolutely loved taking her class. Her lectures are interesting and she tries to engage with the class. Here's the thing, the class is an easy A as long as you pay attention to lectures and take diligent notes. STAY ON TOP OF YOUR ASSIGNMENTS. Makeups are not allowed so plan ahead. She does not waver so don't try, honestly I respect that.
Worst Professor Ever.
I lost points due to her own errors. Posts announcements for other classes, never corrects it after. Made an egregious error on the final. Didnt teach anything, just referred us to the book. Asks loaded questions, yet theres still somehow right & wrong answers. Erratic grader. I got an A, but she made it hell. for your own sake, avoid at all costs
Unorganized. Unclear. Uncertain. Uncaring. She messed up the due days quite often but she expected you to submit every paper on time, so you need to check on your canvas extremely careful daily not to miss an important due like midterm. No announcement was mentioned. Be super fast to write 2 essays in 2 hours. Detailed questions on exams.
Horrible Professor. Point Blank Period.
Dr. Lehtola is a narcissistic and vile woman. She will scoff at your papers and laugh at your ignorance and stupidity. She will not guide you nor actually teach because she will ramble on about her own opinions and thoughts instead of the actual course material. She is unorganized and messy, as well as her actual teaching style. Do not take her.
I took her in the Spring of 2020 online, so the in-person reviews may be different from my review. Dr. Lori Lehtola is a good and caring teacher. She makes integrated videos and films with the course work. Briefly, it is a normal-level of coursework, and, for me, it consisted of 1 research paper, 2 projects, 3 big chapter quizzes, and discussions.
She created really interesting projects. She had us use actual historical documents to do things like cook. She is a great grader. Most importantly, she isn't one of those unreasonable teachers who think that no one deserves a 100. She recognizes hard work and grades her students accordingly. I would definitely take a class with her again.
She is a very tough grader, I regret ever taking her!
Do not take this Professor! She grades really toughly! I regret ever taking this Professor.
I took her Western Civilization 1 course. The textbook seeks to belittle Western civilization and intentionally misconstrues facts. For example, the cover of this textbook is covered with images of Communist leaders despite it only covering info upto the 18th century. The authors also frequently state that they support Communist and Nazi ideology.
Dr. L gives you a normal workload, the assignments are pretty simple and she gives constructive feedback. However, she is a tough grader and sometimes takes off points for absolutely no reason! I misspelled a word on an essay and she took off 15 points just for that. It is hard to get 100 in her class.
Nothing is really special about her but she doesnt give any extra credit opportunities and doesnt take late work . Just beware and if you can take another professor than her please do . I would give her a negative rating if I could
I have almost completed her summer online course with an assured A. Idk what these other students were talking about but this class is an easy A online. I took this with a 40 he work week no problem. 4 assignments with clear parameters for each one. 2 books to read. She gives all the tools to get an A. And she is not a harsh grader.
2 textbooks required. A total of 8 assignments. 4 "primary source assignments" that require extensive reading and lengthy written responses. 2 book exams that consist of multiple questions that require long multi paragraph answers. 1 mid-term that is more of the same and a final exam that is a 5-page paper. Terrible course structure. Don't take.
Was horrible. Gave vague instructions to projects and changed up the final test to a 5 page paper with 4 days to do it. Dont take this class unless this is your only class.
I took her "Online Anytime" class and for all the tests, she gives you two essay to write. This is a history class not a English class. I have never seen a teacher giving two essay on two different topics and both due on same day. I would never take her again. Don't take her if you don't want to end up getting a bad grade. Everything is graded late.
Worse professor ever do not take her class you will fail she is a HIST teacher and wants you to do assignments like she is a English professor terrible at explaining things and a very technical grader
Professor Lehtola's class is a little difficult as she's a tough grader. You have 4 primary sources, 2 book exams (not the textbook), and a research paper. I spent more time working on this coursework than in all my other classes. On some assignments, the instructions aren't clear. She is kind and willing to help but it's a time-consuming class.
This was more of an English class, we did papers, baked, and made a video project covering a book we read and was labeled an "exam". She added a last minute assignment during finals week, it was two 5 paragraph essays along with our research paper final. I asked questions when i was unsure but was only ever told to re-read modules, very unhelpful.
There are no live lessons, lessons will not open ahead of time and are due a few days later. Extremely unorganized, she will forget to upload assignments and blame canvas for the issue causing major grades to be due on the same day at the last min. Very tough grader, will fail for improper sources. Beware, if you aren't invested- find another prof.
This is the ONLY class in college where I didn't get an A. She grades very hard, and it's very unclear what she's looking for in the assignments she gives. The average final grade in my class was a 33%. That means most people failed the class.
Do not take this Professor! She grades really tough! I really regret taking this professor
Dr. Lehtola is uninterested in being a History teacher. Two book exams, both requiring two essays and a final 1200+ word research paper. She does not have a good grasp on Canvas and left an exam closed until the day before it was due. She asks that you buy the textbook, and never once goes over/teaches any material from it. No lectures, no notes.
Do not take this course.
Do not take her! Grades extremely heavy. If you make one grammatical error, she'll give you either a 50 or 0. Takes a very long time to grade things. I didn't know my average in the class until the last month of class. Very unhelpful as well. She does not respond to emails.
Do not take her class! I passed HIST 1301 with an A+. She gave me an F since she graded the last assignment with more than 30% for the final grade. I do not understand how she is a teacher! The assignments had nothing to do with the curriculum. She made me lose the $600 that I paid for that class and time since I have a full-time job.
There were a total of seven assignments and they are all essays. I took the online 8 week course and there were no quizzes. If you email her with questions, she responds fairly quickly. Unorganized and a little confusing/hectic at times. There is a lot of reading (two books in addition to the textbook and other assigned reading). Not hard though.
Save yourself the time and money. Do not take this course. I chose to look away from the negative reviews and give her the benefit of the doubt. That was a mistake. She was unhelpful and an extremely tough grader. Don't disagree with her opinion on a discussion post, she will fail you without any explanation.
I regret taking her class. Every negative thing said in others rating is true.
Not at all understanding and very rude. Does not know how to respect people. I was going through a difficult time and could not attend some of my quizzes. She is the only professor who said she cannot do anything. Just withdraw while you can. Keep your mental health in check.
Every negative review here is an understatement. Run while you still can.
Part of Dr. Lehtola set backs lies in her (or he idk can't tell) needing to retire. I wouldn't recommend taking this professor at all due to the lack of professionalism, care, and overall treatment Dr. Lehtola exhibits towards studentd.
Dont take her, she grades people late, and even shes late will try to give the lowest grade as possible on project assigments. Avoid her, not family friendly.
she takes long to respond to email,do not care about students, heavy grader and difficult to deal with.
The coursework was generally fine, but the professor's grading and dedication to the class were inconsistent and vague. Literally, take anyone else; it's not worth doing an easy course with this type of professor.
