Very Good Teacher
Best math teacher Ive ever had. Very clear, explains everything wonderfully.
Great teacher & funny. She answers the stupid questions people ask and doesnt give you a hard time about it. She's easy going and upfront about everything.
Best math teacher ever. She is extremely helpful, she explains everything as many times as it takes. She's also really laid back and funny.
she is too talkative. Otherwise, you will gain nothing in her class.
She is very eccentric. Talks a ton. Grades tests hard, but she is very nice. If you "try" and visibly struggle, she will grade easier. Go to office hours once or twice!! Homework is always due on day of test. Many pop-quizzes.
Teaches well and is really funny but isn't that understanding. Office hours can help so take advantage of them. All you need to do is keep up with your homework because there are occassional pop quizzes.
Covers chaperts pretty quick. Some times hard to understand.
best stat teacher!!! she's a very easy teacher if u just go to class and do your hwk!! dont need to worry bout midterms cuz she makes u PRACTICE a lot in a fun way!!! she's very funnie n talkative u'll have fun in that classs!!!
She's a great teacher who will try really hard to help you learn, unless you are totally blowing her off. She works really hard to help people who are trying to learn. Exams can be a little tough, but there are other graded assignments that are easier.
she is so funny. she makes math not so horrible. keep up on the homework and study at lot. tests are pretty difficult.
Sometimes it hard to understand everything she teaches since she goes through it so fast. Keep up on the homework or you'll be lost on the pop quiz's and the tests. She doesn't teach as effectively as I would have liked but she has a great sense of humor.
has random stories that are sometimes funny. lots of homework.
Funny, helpful, makes math worth your while. Tries her best to make herself understood. The most fun I've had in math class since grade school.
Ms. Maloney is an awesome person. She always gives compliments whenever someone shows a lot of effort, and you can tell she's really into math. She's more than willing to help you out, so take advantage of it. Lots of homework.. definitely a 5 unit class.
She either likes you or she doesn't..BEWARE!!!!
Tons of hwk! She had four tests that were hard and made a signifigant difference in your overall grade. Her comedy SUCKS! Her office hours are not helpful, consider this before you sign up for her. Take Trexel instead.

She yells at you for her short comings. When she can't explain a problem and she tries four times, you ask someone else. Unfortunately she yells at you for seeking help from a far for capable student.
I had to correct her on a major formula we were learning. That's bad. She also makes to many math jokes and tangents so that you lose track of what she's teaching you. She also says three weeks when she means one week. But yeah she'd be good without all of those attributes.
Lori Maloney is very unhelpful, isn't very good at explaining things and deffinitly picks favorites in the beginging of the course. she is also kind of scatter brained (messing up assignments and such)
Prof Maloney is really very good. She moves fast and expects much; but rightly so given the level of math. She will go out of her way to help you get what is going on; go to the office hours and ask what you can do to stay on top of it all. She obviously enjoys math and the humor keeps it all from getting dry. She is much appreciated.
Blahhhh!
shes an awesome teacher..makes math so fun and not so dry and boring and yeah...just wish she was easy on those problemettes but otherwise shes awesome just great! love the humor and love the teaching..i swear i've never had a teacher explain math so well...can't wait to have her for stats!
great at explaining. horrific at testing, which is where 100% of grading is. run_in_the_opposite_direction.

Honestly one of the nicest teachers I've ever met. She is more than willing to help and tests are fairly easy. Just don't slack since she doesn't collect homework. I went to half the classes, average smarts, and passed. Almost anyone could get at least a B if they spend 5-6 hours/week studying.
FUNNY!! GOOD TEACHER! i learned so much from her. i took her two years ago and now im taking intermediate alg, and i still remember everything i learned in her class.
She is ok
She is not a good teacher, doesn't know how to teach her class.
Very funny teacher. I highly recomend her to everyone. She gives a lot of handouts. Sometimes she may be scattered but she takes time to address students who look a little confused. not a lot of memorizing, you get to use the blue sheet in the book. The book is helpful but you learn everything in class. It would be smart to attend class.
Jumps around the subject a lot. Gets numbers from no where, not going step by step. Said she wouldn't put certain problems on tests, then does. Spent much time studying from secondary sources, rarely using methods the taught. Will drop students after 2 absences (when school guidelines say a teacher only can after 4). No graded homework a plus.
Miss Maloney is the best. She is so much fun! She presents the information as clearly as one can in regards to standard deviations and such. She is a very fair grader and if you put in the effort you will be rewarded. I recommend her to everyone, even if you don'thave to to take a math class. I had that much of a good time.
Ms. Maloney makes a dry, confussing subject barable. Shes really funny and not afraid to laugh at herself. our book was new this semester, and it sucked. you still need to by it.do the homework and go to class, otherwise it wont make any sence. i would definetly take one of her classes again
FUNNY.quizzes r usually open book, notes or group style. Lots of class work but its helpful busy work. You will maybe turn in 2 hw assignments but she will tell u. Otherwise homeowrk isnt collected but you should try 2 do it anyways b/c she puts hw problems on the test. Studyguides r not that helpful but tests are usually open book/page of notes
Hands down, the best professor I have ever had.
She's awesome! though i failed it was from my own accord. Very passionate teaching style and very accesible after class. Word of caution, if youdon't get it ask she'll move onwith out you.
miss maloney is definitely my favorite teacher i've ever had!! she is a hilarious hippy who is in love with dogs :) i got an easy A. i think we turned in a total of like 4 hw assignments. her personality is the best and she is the teacher that i recommend most to others. TAKE THIS CLASS FOR A FUN MATH CLASS!!
NICEST LADY EVER! take her she is hilarious and so sweet! gave out candy probably every day of class. we had a cookie party on the last day! my favorite teacher ive ever had
I am an english major so I am REALLY bad at math, so I was surprised when I breezed through the course with a high A. Lori is funny and really nice... and so helpful. Just don't eat the chocolate skittles.
She is hilarious, like a stand up comedian. Goes over the topics very well and gives a lot of really helpful handouts. Also gives study guides before the tests. Not too hard to get an A with a little effort. She is also really lax about breaks which is nice.
the review she gives you is everything that is on the tests. she is entertaining to kill the time. most understanding teacher ever.
All i can say is that her reviews were nothing like the test it self.(usually a few chapters behind) the worst teacher EVER. Takes Long brakes in the middle of lectures
I don't understand all of the bad comments here! A very pleasant and helpful person. Really made the class fun! Best math teacher ever. Put in the work, and you'll do just fine.
The review tend to be harder than the actual tests. She is quirky, sometimes funny and sometimes flat. She is clear and does an excellent job of explaining. Just like any other class you get out what you put in. I would take this professor all the way till graduation if I could.
Although I had Lori as a professor some time ago, she was the professor that really launched me into an interest in advanced studies in mathematics. She was always helpful, always graded fairly, and always tried to help kindle an interest in math. I was fortunate to be one of her students.
Great teacher. Actually cares about her students and will take the time to make learning fun for them.
She's a good teacher, who obviously loves what she does. Very helpful. She makes corny jokes, but her personality is so positive, they're actually kinda funny. Take her class =)
very weird. goes off topic toooooo often and doesn't teach a lot. too eccentric and takes a long time to do one problem (40 minutes)
I love Prof. Maloney. She so obviously loves her job and puts all her time and effort into her students. She is extremely understanding, easy to approach with problems/questions, and the way she explains and teaches is very easy to follow. I went back and took stats with her the very next semester. She's one of the best teachers I've had.
...and then I took 120 again, got an A. I kept chugging on through Calculus 1 and 2 at Sac City. Now I just finished my last math course at Illinois State University - Discrete Math (Calc 2 prerequisite). In a sense, this teacher helped me...by kicking my butt constantly, and motivating myself to try harder and that I can achieve anything.
I had to re-take stats this semester because I failed during Fall & she has been the most amazing teacher ever! She explains things very well and makes it so you completely understand the topic. Yes, she is a little crazy but I love it! Makes class fun! I would highly recommend her, especially if math isn't your strongest subject!
She grew on me as the semester went on. Shes a funny laid back hippie woman that is extremely friendly and willing to help, gives good explanations. Always open for questions. Not a finicky tough grader but the class is not easy. She really encourages students to work together which I liked. First math class that I had fun in.
She is a great teacher! I had stared a STATS class the semester before but had to drop. When I took Lori's class everything I didn't understand before made sense! She really wants you to be involved and active in the learning process and she wants you to understand WHY you are doing what you are- not just when to use what formula. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
She tries to make class interesting and tells old corny jokes to keep the class mood light. Teaching style can be a little confusing because she will teach multiple ways to achieve the answer. Tests seemed brutal however she gives a lot of partial credit for work. But if you go to class and pay attention and do the homework you should do great.
Explains really well. She is a good teacher for people who aren't good at math. She is very nice and SO FUNNY
Ok awesome teacher! She is hilarious and approachable. The only thing that sucks is if you do NOT come to her with what you don't understand there is a good chance she wont go over it in class. First two tests were easy the last was really hard and she spent barely any time on it in class. It was very unclear what to study even with our studyguide
Easy class. She allows you a full page of notes front and back on all 3 of the tests. Gives occasional pop quizzes but they were usually open book open classmate, so they were easy. Homework isn't collected and the class itself was pretty chill. Lots of group/partner work so that was chill as well.
I cannot say enough good things about Professor Maloney. I took her for Algebra 2 and for Trigonometry. She was fantastic in both classes. Her class isn't crazy easy, but if you attend and do all your homework you will do great. She gives reviews for every test which is super helpful. I HIGHLY recommend her!!!
Professor Maloney is the best! She is so nice and is the most approachable and helpful math professor I've ever had. Always willing to go over anything that you need help with. We had a study guide and review day before each exam. Exams were graded fairly. Homework assignments were optional (not graded).Would definitely take a class w/her again!
Professor Maloney is the absolute best math teacher I've ever had! She instills confidence in her students and is very thorough. I love her sense of humor and her passion for math, it's so infectious! I can't wait to take her next semester!
Professor Maloney is great and kind teacher. She really wants everyone to be excited about math and she makes it actually easy. She goes over homework questions and her exams are fair. She is very enthusiastic about the material. She will always find time for her students. If you are not good at math and want to understand it - take her.
At first I wanted to drop. But I gave her a chance and i'm glad I did. Lori is a great teacher, but just has a weird way of teaching. She has a different teaching method than most teachers, but when it comes it test time, she gives a good review and makes sure students know what to expect. She adjusts her tests and material based on student feedbk
This teacher has a very clear way of explaining things. Although homework is optional, I would recommend doing it because the only things that are graded in her classes are the tests. All around Ms. Maloney is a good teacher and I would definitely recommend taking her classes.
Homework isn't mandatory, but if you don't do it you'll feel like you've missed a day or two of class because she expects you to have done the homework and moves on to the next topic. You have 8 chapters, 4 tests and a midterm and final. You get a notecard on the final but not on the others. Make a good group and this class won't be too bad.
She is by far the best math teacher I have ever had. First week, make friends and study groups, they help so much. Do all the homework although you don't turn it in, it helps. We got notecards for every test and had 4 projects that were turned in for "homework grade." Attendance does affect your grades, she drops after 3 missed classes.
math is her first language; but gives very general examples of how to work through even the most basic calculus problems in a way that someone that has never seen calculus before. also gets off topic, often- leaving you even more confused by the end of class. does not collect homework, but MUST do if you intend on learning intro calc.
Doesn't grade homework, but don't be fooled! If you're skipping homework, classwork is tedious and confusing. The lecture includes working out problems similar to the most recent homework, and then introducing topics in a realistic way. She likes to mix in old problems with new, so your brain is always stretching its capacity for recall. 3 exams.
7 open note, open book, open neighbor pop quizzes. Doesn't make fun of you if you're very confused. Likes students who learn from mistakes and others peoples questions. Be curious! She works hard to create worksheets that reflect homework and get you ready for tests. She will not hold your hand through the tough stuff- have self-motivation!
Professor Maloney is ok. I don't like the way that she teaches the class. She gives you very general examples.
Great professor! She truly cares about her students and gives extra time on exams and lots of help if you ask. She's funny and silly at times, but serious about her subject. It is a tough class, but she works with students. Wish I'd taken her earlier.
One of the best math classes I have ever taken. She is extremely helpful in and outside of class. Answers back on emails almost right away and is available for office hours. She does give homework for practice but it is never graded and she does give pop quizzes every once in a while for 10pts. The grade is test heavy, so make sure to study.
She treats you like an adult. She doesn't grade homework, which means you have to be self-motivated. A little weird but really nice and funny, but some explanations have to be researched when they aren't clear. The hard part is the grading. 3 exams (20% each) the final(20%) and everything else(20%). So you won't get by unless you know the work.
gives out good handouts that outline exactly what is on the tests. very kind professor.
She is the best math professor I've ever had. I've always struggled with math and she's taught me to love it. She's truly passionate about math and really wants you to understand it. Her grading criteria is clear, her classes are always so interesting! If you struggle with math; please, take her.
She might a good Prof for MATH 335 or below, but she does NOT have knowledge for Upper math classes such as MATH 400 and 401. Her lectures are so basic and confusing and it won't help you in undrestading the material. But her exams are so detailed and nothing like her lectures. She is also a really tough grader.
Honestly, I've always been pretty good at Math which is probably why I was even able to pass her class. Her lectures are really basic and cover easy to solve problems. Her tests are long and the difficulty is much higher than what is covered in class. She has poor structure and instructing abilities. I would stay away from her class.
She is a very good lecturer and explains concepts very well in class but her tests and projects are x10 harder that anything she talks about in class. They seem like problem only she can solve most of the time. If that's not an issue then go ahead, she's a nice lady and is very willing to help you. DO YOUR HW, she doesn't check but you need it.
I do NOT recommend her for any of Calculus series! she doesn't know how to teach calc and she just bombard you with tons of handouts!
She doesn't even know how to use canvas, just imagine how she was dealing with this online situation. first of all, there is no HW for her class and therefore you gotta practice by yourself. her lectures crap and you don't get much out of them. just study from the text
She was honestly one of the better professors I've had at the actual teaching of Calculus. She is kind and willing to help you if you ask. However, she only takes into account the 3 tests and final exam with like 4 "projects" for your whole grade. The test are stupidly hard and you basically have to be gifted at math to get an A
She is by far one of the most disorganized teachers I have had yet. The class I took was an online synchronous, and her lectures were all over the place, not helpful to learning the material, and feel like a waste of time. She seems very underequipped to do online classes, and I basically had to teach myself. thankfully light on quizzes and tests
Creative and adaptable teaching style for max effect, not just a "procedural" teacher. Reviews as she's introducing new topics, and relates it to real world examples which helps solidify material at a fundamental level. She doesn't grade homework but she gives worksheets and extra resources for more practice. Grades quizzes and participation.
Professor Maloney is great. She is very understanding of situations brought on by the pandemic and is flexible. Homework is not graded but it is important to do it or you may get lost easily. All in all a wonderful teacher and I wish I would've had her in person.
As an instructor, she is incredibly effective, one of the best I've had. There is a focus on in depth discussion and interesting problems that works very well. However, the pacing led to a rush at the end, and your grade is based on only two exams and a small number of projects, and her exams are incredibly difficult, the hardest I've ever taken.
Im really bad at math and I barely passed with the extra credit that she gives for turning in work early. She broke her hip halfway through the semester, but I finished this class just as confused as I was the first day. Still dont know a thing about stats. Shes very nice and lets you work on problems in groups, but I felt dumb most of the time.
her goal is that all of you learn in the class and she even lets you work with classmates on many of the exams open book open note. I understand the bad ratings is because math overall is difficult for students including me and math 400 and 401 are definitely not a joke, but if you even try e little you can easily get an A.
I got an A in the class but I would not necessarily recommend her as a math teacher because she wasn't good at teaching. If you want an easy class, and this is the last math class you need, take this class. If you are taking this class because you are going to continue on in calculus and need a good foundation, don't take this class.
This professor did not give students study guides despite the tests being incredibly hard, her lectures were confusing and unorganized, and an HOUR before we took our final, she emailed us saying that our grade in canvas was not our actual grade despite mentioning it no where in the syllabus. I would've passed with a B otherwise. Don't take her.
We were able to work together on exams and projects. Personally, for me, I was not able to learn as well because the way she does canvas can be a bit confusing and she does go fast on the lectures- but she does provide the recording for it afterward.
Just doodles on her ipad and it adds to her very chaotic, fast and unorganized style of teaching. Hard to keep up with notes. I need a good foundation for calc and a clear step by step teaching style, but I feel like she is unable to provide that for me. Textbook heavy and depending on it is hard. Still in her class, but I wish I had a better prof
She clearly doesn't know how to use tech, is constantly off topic, and is very disorganized. Our class had a group chat and every day during class all I could see was constant confusion about what was going on in class. Her grading is average and her homework assignments aren't mandatory but should be done in order to understand the content.
She was very kind and if you ever need help she would gladly help. She gave a lot of homework but it was do what you need. The oonly problems I had wither her class were the lecture was super long about 3 hours twice a week and she tend to ramble on sometimes or switch things up quick. I just found myself getting a little lost in her lecture.
She teaches in a very unique way that I would say works for certain groups of people like myself. She will go over anything that you don't understand as long as you ask for help. The tests are done in groups or by yourself, and you could get extra credit for turning it in early. Overall a very nice experience, I would definitely recommend her.
