Petrovich is by far one of the best Chem teachers at NCSU. She is such a nice lady and always willing to help.
Great professor. Extremely helpful.
best chemistry teacher ever!! Extremely helpful and her notes are very clear. As long as you go to class you will do very good on her tests.
Easy to understand
Really difficult class if you are not good at chemistry, but she's fun and really tries to be enthusiastic. Works entirely from slides, so I hope they don't bore you. Bring a computer to read from the slides up close and work out the problems there. Trust me, it helps.
I love Dr. Petrovich!! She's very enthusiastic about chemistry and does her best to make class interesting and fun. She will go out of her way to help you if you need, and her lectures and homework match the tests. The textbook is useless in my opinion and I don't recommend buying it. Semester is still ongoing so I can't comment on the curve.
overall good professor. moves too fast on hard stuff and goes too slow on easy stuff. sometimes her methods of explaining are a little elementary. always willing to answer questions
hard class, great teacher. online powerpoints make it easy to fallow, curves grades. helpful if you go talk to her but can be blunt and a little mean
Dontunderstand how you can get a A+ in lab and a D+ in her class. went to tutoring center and walk-in and still couldnt pass her class. is blunt and was mean to a few students
She moves very quickly through lectures and can be harsh if you try to ask questions.
I honestly have no respect for this professor. She was flat out rude when I asked questions and basically told me I was dumb when I asked her to explain something. She works completely from slides and moves very quickly.
She is a good teacher. She explains the stuff throughly but uses great examples to remember stuff though some of her examples are way to much hard to imagine..like Jurrasic park and the thermodynemics.
Petrovich is useful if you're able to pay attention to her lectures all the time. However, I've found out reading the online text is much more beneficial. Just go to class to find out what you need to study in the book and go on fridays for free attendance points!
VERY good professor. Provides notes online prior to lectures. Explains things very well. HIGHLY recommend going to lectures because she explains her notes. She moves a little quickly but it's to be expected since there is a lot of material. Do the practice exams and bonus homeworks. Material is difficult at times but she is great at teaching it.
Ok, Chemistry is hard..You have to study! Dr. P moves very fast..she has to though. She's extrememly helpful if you go to her office hours and really likes it when people put forth an effort. If you can get some old tests and study the webassign, you'll be straight. >>STUDY AND KEEP UP WITH WHAT YOU LEARN EACH DAYYY<<
Overall she was pretty clear in her lectures. All the notes can be found online and she is easy to listen to. The only flaw was that you felt stupid for asking any questions. It was intimidating and a little demeaning. The way she presented the material was helpful, but fast. Great professor if your a quick learner.
She is an AWESOME professor. Notes are posted before class and are all very clear, and she explains them really well. The WebAssigns are actually very helpful. If you put in the effort, you will probably get a good grade. Her curve is generous, too. Organic chemistry was a lot easier for me because she taught it at the end, for which I am grateful!
Dr. Petrovich is a great teacher! She will do anything to help you. She moves fast, but the notes are up ahead of time so you can look at them before class. Gives you "extra credit" for clicking in and answering the clicker questions in class. Explains everything in a way that everyone can understand, I would recommend her class to everyone!
As someone said before me, CH 101 is hard regardless of who you get. Her lectures are pretty clear AFTER YOU READ THE BOOK. She's the lab coordinator so the labs will coincide with lectures. I know there were some professors who were behind us and the students still had to do the labs. Go to SI, study hard and do your HW and you'll be fine.
Dr. Petrovich is amazing! I want her for all my chemistry classes. All her lecture slides are online previous to class so you can pay more attention during class and she curves tests. She does move fast, but if you do the webassigns/bonus HW, take the practice exams before tests and go to class, you'll be FINE!
I had Dr. Petrovich last semester for chem 101. FANTASTIC! She does go fast for students who are unfamiliar with chemistry. But if you have had at least 1 chem in high school, then you should definitely be fine. I did study a lot, but i also learned a lot. Shes the professor i want for ALL of my remaining chemistrys. =]
Petrovich is a great teacher. Her tests are not too hard, and she curves them. Her class is a little boring, but attending class and answering clicker questions correctly gives you a few bonus points for the end of the semester.
Hard class. Hard professor. Heard from various people that Neyhart is easier.
CH101 at NCSU is not meant to be an easy class!! At all! Dr. P does provide a good amount of help though, with tests from previous semesters, ALL the powerpoint lecture slides. PAY ATTENTION during her lectures...that's how you will learn in this class. I think she does everything she can to make sure her students succeed but you will have to work.
I honestly would not recommend her to any freshmen that isn't a chemistry major. The tests were harder than any other class, the Webassigns were harder than any other class (I checked both) However, overall she was a good teacher, pretty funny/cheesy, smart, but really fast in the actual teaching. Heard from a lot of people that Neyhart is good
The last time I took Chemistry was in the 10th grade so this class was pretty tough for me. She moves very fast and the tests are hard, but welcome to college I guess. I learned a lot though and used my book religiously. She does provide good practice resources which are helpful. Also, she's not bad to look at.
Great Teacher. Chemistry 101 is a hard class and she makes it much easier to understand. The tests are hard, but pay attention to her lectures in class and the tests are easier. She gives tons of resources to help learn the material and the web assigns are very helpful in understanding the material. If you aren't great at chemistry take her class!
Great Teacher. Chemistry 101 is a hard class and she makes it much easier to understand. The tests are hard, but pay attention to her lectures in class and the tests are easier. She gives tons of resources to help learn the material and the web assigns are very helpful in understanding the material. If chemistry is hard for you, take her class!
I really liked her. I went to her office all the time and she helped me out a lot. Her test are not that bad if you study. She is so friendly.
Petrovich goes SOOO fast through the material. She breezes through powerpoints and by the time you start to understand one section she is off on another one. Her tests are extremely hard and very tricky. Webassigns are annoying and there are about 2 a week due in her class. I would not take her if chemistry is hard to you. BAD teacher!
Great teacher, knows the material extremely well and knows how to present the information in a way that is easy for students to understand. Also posts powerpoints so if you miss notes or just want to review them they are available. Good introduction to Chemistry
Teacher was extremely hard and did not really explain material well. There are better teachers out there.
Super helpful when it comes to notes provided. Her powerpoints are extremely informative and she always comes up with new ways of remembering all of the stuff you can never remember. Best way to ace tests is to re-work webassigns and review practice exams. gives Multiple Choice exams and replaces lowest test grade w/ exam if you do better on it
CH 101 is going to be difficult. That said, I think that Petrovich teaches it as well as any other professor at State, just from talking to others with a different professor. You won't have to take notes because she posts them online for you, and there are usually a couple of WebAssigns per week. The tests tend to be tricky, but one is replaced
Best professor for CH101 that I think you can get. She really loves the subject and wants her students to understand. Attendance is mandatory, and there are graded review questions throughout class to keep your attention. The topic is NOT easy, but as long as you pay attention to what she says and print off the notes she gives you, you'll be fine.
Dr. P is enthusiastic about Chemistry 101 & tries to make everything as simple as possible. She sometimes has a problem w/ making things seem like they will be more difficult than they actually are. Class involves a lot of practice and the practice helps for the exams. Exams are tricky- so take advantage of extra credit opportunities (class forum)!
Great professor. Explains everything very well.
Went into it thinking it would be hard. It wasn't that hard. She's probably the best bet for CH 101. I thought she was cool and she has all these practice exams online which makes it easy to study.
She's a really nice, fun teacher. I definitely recommend her for CH101. Class is a bit difficult, but isn't Chemistry always?
Overall probably the best bet you can get for CH101, that class is going to be hard at State no matter what. You have to study no matter what but he exams are very straight forward and she provides the necessary practice exams and homework on WebAssign that will prepare you way more than any other professors, try to get her!!
She's overall a great professor. The PowerPoint notes are organized and interesting, as well as straightforward. Problems on tests are a lot more difficult than poll questions in class and questions on WebAssign homeworks, but it's college.
She is good at explaining things, lectures go fast, but there is a lot of material to cover. Grades on tests in her class were higher than a lot of other chem 101 classes. Overall I would recommend her.
Dr. P was a great chemistry prof and made the class as easy as possible. Problems on tests were similar to problems in class and on the homework, and there was extra credit offered throughout the semester. Made this class a great experience.
She uses clickers daily for attendance. Really easy to understand during lectures, but the tests are usually challenging. Recommended to attend all problem sessions.
Very nice professor and willing to help. As with the other CH 101 it was explained in a way that made easy material hard. Very good professor for the most failed class at State.
Professor Petrovich awesome! Her tests are definitely tough, but that's chemistry. She is very fair and is good at explaining tough concepts. She gives you multiple opportunities for extra credit and provides plenty of work so if you bomb one homework, it won't kill you. You will do a LOT of work, but you will learn a lot!
In my opinion, Petrovich's lecture are kinda fun. Her clicker questions are graded, and counted as participation grade. Her Exams are pretty easy, but at the same time, they are TRICKY. You might think you will get a 100, but you will be surprised when you receive lower than what you expected. She gives an extra-credit tests in Webassign.
Really great professor! There are clicker questions for lectures but they really help. Lots of WA homework but plenty of chances for extra points for each test. SI is there if you need it, and she also hosts exam cram sessions during semester. She's very accommodating and gives you all the resources she has to help you passdo well.
lori is very systematic !
I love Dr. Petrovich! She made me go from hating chemistry to actually liking it. Her lectures break down the material so you can understand it, but they build enough that you learn the material in depth. She offers up to 5 points extra credit if you do the practice exams, and she gives exam crams to prepare for tests. Funny and helpful! Recommend.
Dr. Petrovich is awesome! I failed Chem 101 the first time I took it, but she made it soo much easier the second time around. She makes jokes in class and lectures are actually interesting to attend. Tests are difficult but fair. Plus, she curves.
A great professor who is eager to help you, but her tests are difficult (in comparison to the homework).
Dr. Petrovich isn't bad but her lectures are long and boring. She does an alright job at teaching, but teaches at an extremely fast pace in order to just get through the material, leaving those confused completely lost. Her tests are also pretty hard too, but she offers some (only a couple of points) of extra credit to soften the blow a bit.
Don't listen to the majority of these negatives comments; they are from people who are just not good at chemistry. I'm currently taking her class, and the test are much easier than the WebAssigns, she puts out practice tests that are identical, and she even puts the slides are the relevant to the tests and quiz up. Take this class. It is very easy.
Had her for Chemistry lab. Very helpful and was always there to answer questions when needed.
She is a good teacher that does a very good job of explaining material to a large lecture hall. The tests are hard but if you study the material well and understand the concepts behind the work then you will do fine. The final is tougher than the tests but not too bad. On the tests you can gain up to 6 extra credit points because of test reviews.
She's a very good teacher. Her tests are pretty tough but if you pay attention and do your homework, you won't have to study very much. She likes to test on the important parts of chemistry and not the small details you won't need to know until your senior year as a chemistry major.
CH 101 is a weed-out class, so you won't have the best time, but if you have to take it, take it with her or Feducia. She has the higher grades usually, and you actually get to learn it.
She's a good teacher and her class is much easier to get a a good grade in than the other CH101 teacher because her tests are easier and she gives extra credit.
She's the director of the chem department, so she has a lot of other stuff to do besides teach. Due to this, her lectures are really fast and she's not the nicest person. Be prepared to print a ton because you have to print the slides because she goes so fast you cant take notes.
She was an awful teacher and I would not recommend her to anyone. She rushes the lectures and leaves you lost and confused after every class. Do yourself a favor and do not take her.
Ch 201 is a tough class no doubt, but Petrovich provided many opportunities to improve your grade (two extra credit homework assignments; final replaces lowest test). She did go quickly through lectures but her homework videos are extremely helpful for understanding. If you take advantage of the extra things she provides, you'll be fine!
Great at explaining material. Gives multiple extra credit opportunities that help significantly. Probably the best professor for 101 and 201.
Petrovic is a great professor. The thing is, CH 101 is kind of a hard subject (at least for me). she usually makes cool demonstrations and experiments in class for people to see. Tests are tough
Dr. Petrovich is an amazing professor. She teaches really well and is very organized. All of the materials are easily accessible on moodle. Just going to class will help you really learn the material. She is a kind and funny amazing person.
Dr. Petrovich was sincerely a decent teacher. She would help on homework questions however she could and was caring about her students. As it is known, CH101 is a weeder course and can be difficult, however, she explains the material in a way that is understandable to her students. She gave practice exams on Webassign that is extra credit.
A great professor and I would definitely take her again. The lectures make everything very clear and she will individually email you if she sees that the project you're working on isn't quite on track.
Dr. Petrovich is probably the best professor for CH 101! She has so many resources available online (printable notes for every lecture) and is very friendly in her office hours. Her tests were straightforward and similar to the practice tests that she provides. Take her if you can!
Ample extra credit opportunities and a great teacher
Dr. Petrovich is the best chemistry teacher there is. She provides lots of practice material and extra credit. She honestly explains everything so well that you understand it immediately. She is definitely the best person to take CH101 with!
An amazing teacher. I took AP Chem before college and I understand everything much better thanks to her. Her lectures are clear and she explains everything well. A few opportunities to get extra credit and attendance is easy points just pay attention. All of her slide are available online so you can look ahead for quiz questions.
Dr. Petrovich is a quality professor, her lectures are fast paced and informative. She covers all the materials that are going to be on the test and the practice tests are similar to the actual test. Very knowledgeable and approachable during office hours.
She is a very kind professor. She explains everything in a very clear way, which is very good for our international students to understand. Even if you do not want to go to the class, you can see the powerpoint and understand by yourself easily.
Dr. P is amazing. I think she is one of the best chem 101 professors you can take, so definitely try to get her if you can! Explains things very clearly, has powerpoint online, and clears stuff up if you dont get it at her office hours. Also gives students the chance for up to 5 points of extra credit on tests!
Dr. Petrovich really knows her stuff when it comes to chemistry. Her lectures are clear and very understandable, even if you don't know much chemistry going in. There are webassign homework questions assigned every week, as well as in class clicker questions graded for attendance. I recommend taking notes on the daily slides prior to class.
Dr. Petrovich was an amazing Chem 101 professor, and I would recommend her class to any incoming students.
She definitely goes through the material super quickly, but her tests are pretty straightforward (she gives you previous tests to look at). She doesn't accept questions in class, but she is more than happy to meet you outside of class during her office hours.
Dr. P is a great professor. She is very attentive and caring. She knows what shes talking about and show knows how to explain it to the students. She does take attendance, but if you go to class, you should be fine. The class is hard, but having her as the teacher makes it much easier.
Dr. P is the best CH101 teacher at NCSU; if you have a chance to take her, please do! She gives you access to all her powerpoints online, so it is easy to follow along in class. The tests are multiple choice and are fairly straightforward.
Lori Petrovich is an amazing professor. She lectures quickly but posts all of her slides on Moodle so you can catch up or get ahead if need be, along with helpful practice worksheets. There are extra credit opportunities for every test and every test was very similar to the practice tests. CH101 is difficult but her instruction made it easier.
Dr. Petrovich is super talented when it comes to making a student feel like he/she's not intelligent. Also, with her as the director of my lab course, I had to fight for the extra time that was allotted to me by the University. Even more, receiving an email on a Monday morning and being told to take the final later that day is baffling, is it not?
Dr. Petrovich was an amazing professor! She made chemistry easy. She understood that it was an intro class, so she didn't require her students to learn complex topics. You definitely needed to study for tests, but she didn't try to trick you with questions. I recommend her to anyone taking CH 101.
take her, she gives plenty of extra credit
I LOVED Petrovich. I was terrified of this class because I bombed high school chemistry, but she's an amazing teacher and makes the material very understandable. She's also really nice outside of class. Gives extra credit, and the tests were just like the homework. Study notes, homework, and practice tests and you'll be fine.
Considering your options, you can't go wrong with Petrovich. Lectures can be a little rushed sometimes but she's among the few good CH 101 profs at State.
She is one of the best Chemistry professors at NC state. Take her if you get the chance. She makes you work for your grade, but if you study the material. you should do fine on her tests. Also, there are many opportunities for extra credit.
Dr. Petrovich was a great teacher for intro chem. The class is hard already, but she explains all concepts clearly and has all the powerpoints and TopHat questions on Moodle. She also lets students get up to 5 extra points on the tests. She was great!
This course is very fast paced. Halfway through the semester I just stopped taking notes because I did not have time to write anything down. On the bright side, all of her lectures are posted on Moodle so you can look over them ahead of time. She also posts practice exams from previous semesters and gives opportunities for extra credit on each exam
Gives extra credit practice tests before test day -- make sure you take advantage of this! There's a lot of material covered by each test, and while Dr. Petrovich does a pretty good job of explaining the subjects, make sure you review because chemistry builds upon itself.
Petrovich is the BEST chemistry professor. The course is so hard and I had to study everyday to make a C. Petrovich is such a nice professor though and she offers a 5 point extra credit opportunity before every exam and a 10 point one before the final. Chemistry at State is painful, but take Petrovich if possible as she makes it less painful.
Lori is one of the best ch101 professors out there. She prepares students very well before each exam. She gives out last years exams, a practice exam, and gives extra credit before each exam. She goes very fast during lecture, but if you pay attention and take notes you'll be fine.
Dr. Petrovitch was an okay teacher but this class was insanely hard for it to be an intro to chem. it was very hard to keep up if classes were canceled or if you missed a class and the tests were very different from the practice, especially test 3. She is okay, no more no less. She is honestly one of the better ch101 professors at state.
The best chem teacher I have ever had. Explains things very clearly and goes over examples well to immediately reinforce what has just been taught. Tests are all multiple choice and the questions are pretty much the same format as the homework and practice tests, so if you do well on those you will probably succeed.
Tests are moderately difficult but she gives many good tools for studying. Enjoys chemistry & tries to make the lecture engaging with demonstrations & videos. Sometimes moves through lecture material quickly, so it is much easier to take notes in lecture if you print the notes beforehand & copy after. Utilize TA in problem session if struggling.
You get a chance to get a max of 5 points extra credit for EVERY test. Very nice, straightforward and solid teacher! Her powerpoints are very easy to follow even though she went fast (I would suggest writing notes BEFORE class). DO the practice tests, do NOT study the night before! Her tests were kind of hard but there was anything I DIDN't see.
Her lectures are well structured and have some humor mixed in. You can tell she really cares about her students. She does well explaining concepts. Participation and attendance does count as part of your overall grade (tophat is used for this). The tests were difficult but not impossible. You will need to study. They were multiple choice.
I loved Dr. Petrovich! Her tests were pretty fair for CH 101, but definitely one of the best chemistry teachers at NC State. I would take her for CH 201 if she taught it. Pretty fair class overall, show up for Top Hat questions, do the extra credit webassign for tests, and study a little and you'd be fine.
Best professor I have ever had. Lectures were easy to understand and I never struggled doing homework. 5 points extra credit on every test, and gives practice test that are similar to the real tests. Very fair grader and makes chemistry easy to understand.
By far my favorite professor and the easiest class I have ever taken! She is an absolute gem. She teaches in a way that does not require that much brain power and if you study, you'll do great!
CH101 is by far one of the hardest classes most people have to take (especially for non-science majors) so if you want to pass take Petrovich. She gives practice tests that look very similar to actual tests and actually teaches in class (unlike the other chem profs). She is the best choice for CH101 at NC State.
Dr.P wasn't my favorite until the end of the semester but she is definitely one of the best CH101 professors at ncsu. Tests count for A LOT so study hard. Being honest, if you haven't taken AP Chem or some form of advanced chem, I'd recommend taking prep chem or do some sort of major refresher for this class, because it is HARD.
Dr. P is very caring and wants you to pass. Her tests are very tough. Again, her tests are VERY TOUGH. I would recommend studying previous tests from another person who has taken her class. She is one of the best for CH 101, but this doesn't mean you will make a good grade. Your grade will be reflected on how much effort you put forward.
Best CH 101 at State! Take her if you can. Hard class if you don't have the best background in chemistry. However, she was always very willing to help during office hours and give many opportunities to do well in class. The tests was hard but if you study and look at old test you'll be ok. Offers extra credit and post slides before class.
Ms. Petrovich is one of the best chem teachers at state. That said, this class will not be an easy A, B, or C. It will be an easy D though. Her tests are very difficult and she offers a lot of extra credit but definitely know her old tests through and through if you want to pass.
Chem dept at NCSU can be a crapshoot but Dr. Petrovich is definitely one of the best out there. Lectures are fun and engaging and she is very knowledgeable about her field. Accessible outside of class as well, whether in office hours or via email. If you have to take chem, take it with Dr. Petrovich.
You dont actually have zoom meetings to talk to her, and she is very flaky when it comes to responding to emails. I will give her credit for how thorough she is on the subjects. The exams are timed which really sucks. On top of the regular course load you also have to attend problem sessions. Everything is on WebAssign.
Her videos are very clear, but watch at 1.25x speed at least. It's easy to do WebAssign after watching. Lots of office hours online. Don't get behind and it is not too bad.
Lots of HW and work, it's chem so I get it. Can get 100s on all the HW and participation but do bad on one test and your grade plummets down. Her tests this sem. are MUCH harder than her prev. ones which makes no sense since if anything it should be easier. Test anxiety?do NOT take her, zoom test protocol is absurd. Prob. session is mandatory.
I absolutely loved Dr. Petrovich's Chemistry class. However, it certainly is not easy. Dedicate time to review the extra questions for practice and lectures and you will do well! I would also spend time reviewing her in lecture questions, as they are the basis for her test questions most of the time. Take her if you get the chance!
CH 102 is the lab for CH 101, and I had it online due to COVID-19. Webassign is horrible, so it's kind of just something you have to deal with (since the whole lab was on it). We watched videos of her doing the lab and then had to answer questions about it. Never talked to her once - Had a TA, but never heard from her either. Not easy, but not hard
Had her for completely async CH101 & CH102. GREAT lectures, very clear! If she says its on the test, it's on the test. No surprises. I really loved how she did online and I'd dare say she's the best chem professor at NCSU. Problem sessions were with TAs and were helpful.
CH 101 is a little tough class, but if you pay attention to lectures and understand stuff well you will be good. Her lectures are easy to follow. I would say she is nice. Take her if you can.
Great professor especially during covid 19 and online learning. Moodle page was very organized and you are given all the information that will be on the test through lectures and homework. It is a very time consuming and hard class at times but an A is definitely possible if you put in the time.
This course basically consists of a prelab, inlab, and post lab, which are pretty difficult to do no matter what. If your lecture professor didn't explain some things well or you're behind on lectures, nothing will make sense. Even if you did understand the concepts, the questions can be really confusing and difficult to answer.
She was not very understanding of the pandemic or the fact the most of her class was struggling with things at home and completing all their work for their other classes. I wish she had changed the course so that I could have still succeeded. But she taught, graded, and assigned like it was in-person. Which it wasn't.
Great teacher. She has been teaching for years and years on end. There is a lot of homework compared to some other chemistry teachers but I promise you that those homework help you on the tests. The video lectures explain the material fairly well.
I love professor petrovich! her lectures are really easy to understand and she is always available at office hours for extra help. some of my friends had other professors but still watched her lectures since they're on youtube. one bad test grade can affect your grade so make sure you study! also attend SI if you can because that helped me A LOT.
Not understanding of COVID. Test monitoring protocol was absurd. She seems nice and experienced so I'm glad I had her ig. Probably learned more but idk if the stress was worth it. Be prepared to spend all your time on chem. You can do great on all hw and still do bad on test. She mentioned how teachers are "just as mentally exhausted as students"
Dr.P is a nice teacher and teaches concepts pretty well, but is not whatsoever understanding of circumstances at home due to covid. One bad test grade can really hurt your score so make sure to put the extra time in to study. You will be doing something relating to chem everyday with lab, problem sessions and understanding the class itself
This is your warning. DO NOT take this class. She assigns several assignments a week that are worth very little and the tests are nothing the practice tests. If you have a lot of time to devote to this class then it should be fine. I do well in school and this class with Dr. Petrovich was extremely difficult for being a gen ed online class.
Good class, very easy to follow along. Very easy to earn extra credit with very clear and flexible guidelines for grading. Quite a few lectures, but that comes with online classes during COVID-19. Entire catalog of lectures is public on youtube. Would definitely recommend as she is also in charge of the labs and knows how to integrate them.
Petrovich's online pandemic class was entirely asynchronous with prerecorded lectures that were very clear. You can get up to 5 points extra credit for every test by doing a practice test that is very similar to the actual. There is alot of homework but it is not to hard.
Dr. P was a great professor for CH101 and CH102 lab. Even at the beginning of the semester, she has posted most lecture videos on YouTube which allowed students to move at their own pace. The homework was not too heavy and really helps solidify material instead of feeling like busywork. The tests are multiple-choice and have extra credit.
so much work for no reason. lectures are pre-recorded and you teach yourself. exams are hard and homework and participation problems don't help. zoom protocol for exams is outrageous. only offered test review if 80% of class did a survey, highly inappropriate to leverage a review session. don't take her unless you're ready to spend 15+ hours/week.
Chem is a pretty hard course and I think Dr. Petrovich did an awesome job explaining each topic in the YouTube lectures. There was a lot of work to do online, but it's just one of those subjects where you need to do a lot of work in order to get it. Her online tests were all multiple choice and I did not find them to be that difficult.
I only experienced her class asynchronously and the lectures did not really help me much. Your lowest test grade can get replaced by your final exam grade, which helped me. She's a very nice and understanding professor, but if you aren't good with asynchronous work I would look into another professor.
Although I did well in this class, it was no thanks to the professor. I emailed her once and quickly learned that she does not have enough decency to respond to her students, even when they are doing well. The labs do not correspond to the class, therefore by the first few labs, you are off-track and don't know how to do any of them.
Dr. Petrovich is an absolute gem. I have always hated chemistry, but taking her class (even in the online format) was actually extremely enjoyable. Tests are all open note and multiple choice, so I really appreciated that I got to focus more on comprehending the concepts rather than stressing over remembering little details. Overall, 10/10.
The online 202 lab was solid. For the summer there was a lab each teusday and thursday, along with prelabs and postlabs. They weren't too difficult, although webassign is very picky about sig figs and formatting answers. I do wish her videos were a bit faster and less monotonous. I would suggest playing them at 1.5x.
Petrovich assigns up to 3 homework assignments per week, and won't answer questions in class (simply says you must come to office hours). Her practice tests from previous years are easier than the tests presented, and she has an over all bad attitude. Tests count for a lot, and can be detrimental to your grade. There are no quizzes, only small hw.
Overall Dr. Petrovich is a very good professor. The test will cary a lot of weight in the grade book but Dr. Petrovich posts lots of resources to prepare you for the tests and if you use those, it's very easy to get an A. While she's a great professor you will have to put in the study work outside of class.
Professor Petrovich is a fun lady who genuinely enjoys the material that she is teaching. She goes fast, but only because she has a lot to cover in a semester. She does a wonderful job of explaining the logic behind chemistry and she even creates pneumonic devices or similar tools to help students remember the material.
Dr. Petrovich is arguably the best professor for CH101. Tests are fine if you study the previous tests that she provides. Every class is a lecture. Easy to get all attendance points because she multiplies your attendance grade at end of year by 1.25. Lectures move fast but she also has YouTube videos she recorded for online class last year.
can go pretty fast through important lectures, but for the most part she's a really good professor. provides a ton of study materials for tests and the exam, and there are plenty of easy extra credit opportunities.
Dr. Petrovich was a great professor for chem 101. Fast-Paced and the majority of the class grade is the 4 tests. Gave lots of options to students who didn't do so great. Strongly believe that there should be different chem 101s for major and non-major students so that the pace is not as difficult to keep up with for us non-majors.
Chem 101 is well known for being a weed-out class and from my experience this is definitely true. Petrovich is for sure one of the better profs for this class, but it'll be challenging no matter what. It is best to attend every lecture if possible. Also be prepared for her to go through each lecture at the speed of light.
DR. PETROVICH ISNT A BAD TEACHER. CH101 is a difficult course in general. She gives you a lot of test prep materials unlike others. Shes one of the best professors you will get for CH101. As long as you study for tests, do the homework, and attend class you will get the A. If you were a hard worker in highschool, you will be fine.
She explains the topics in the class thoroughly, she makes sure everyone knows what is expected, what is due, when it's due, etc. It's a well structured course, especially considering how much content is learned in so little time. However, she teaches very quickly and you NEED to pay 100% attention if you want to catch everything.
Dr. P was a really great professor. She went really fast, but that is expected with any CH 101 class. Tests are weighted very heavily so there really isn't any room for error. Don't ask questions in class because they will not be answered so just go to office hours. She has a lot of helpful videos if you do not understand certain topics.
Dr. P. is definitely one of the best! It is a hard class, so sure, you really have to work for a good grade, but it can be done. Use all of her resources! I went from having a 60 on my first test, to an A on my final exam! If you put in the effort to study and meet with Dr. P, as needed you can do it. Best prof in chemistry dept for sure!
Made me realize why I'm not a chem major. Amazing lectures, very energetic and engaging. Can't really speak for the tests, some find them easy, others find them hard. Favorite part of lecture was when she did the Dragon Ball fusion dance with her TA to explain pi bonds.
CH101 is going to be a hard class no matter who your professor is. Dr. Petrovich did a really great job of explaining the important info, even though it was a fast-paced course. Her lectures were thorough and the little homework she assigned was beneficial review and aligned with the tests she gave. READ THE TEXTBOOK. It actually helped a lot.
Dr. Petrovich is an amazing lecturer and does a great job of making CH 101, bearable. Her tests tend to be very difficult, but that was expected from her class. She documents her lectures very well and even has YouTube links for each concept.
literally sucks, she's such an awful lecturer and does not give a crap about her students, she talks way too fast and doesn't believe in any of her students and blames them for bad grades in the class. just because you assign us a ton of homework, doesn't mean we'll understand how to do it. she also taught new material a few days before an exam...
I took Dr.P for this class because her CH101 ratings were good. BIG MISTAKE. If you are taking CH201 do not take it with her. She does not care about any students in the class, she skips through lectures, and she wants you to drop the class if you are below the average. Don't make the same mistake I did
Dr. P is one of the best. yes, her lectures are fast and tests are hard, but that is college level chem! She provides all the necessary resources to pass, including plenty of extra credit, practice tests, and study worksheets. If you put in the work, it will definitely pay off for you. She is easily one of the best in the chemistry dept at NCSU!
Probably one of the worst experiences I've ever had in a seated class, like I've had online classes where the professors were more helpful. Take this class with quite literally ANYONE else.
Dr. Petrovich knows what she's doing. The content is really hard and you HAVE to study to do well on the tests. But! She gives extra credit opportunities for every test, lots of *optional* review worksheets and practice tests, and on the homework, she has youtube links on almost every problem of how to solve it. Class is hard but she's a good prof
Dr. Petrovich is going to give you a pretty ruthless ride through CH 201. You are expected to do quite a bit of self learning as she does not care enough to sit through the examples and explain them better, and you better hold on because she moves at break neck speeds and does not wait for anyone. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere for 201.
She is a pretty good professor, her tests are all MCQs so its easy. The questions she gives in class are on tophat and are graded for attendace. Mostly all similar questions come on the tests directly from the tophat questions. She uploads the tophat questions later so that you can review them. All in all would 100% recommend her for CH101
She hates students. She is the most rude woman I have ever met. She is degrading and disrespectful. Yes the class is hard but she is just mean.
i'm just here to write another review because I'm so determined to bring her rating down. she literally degrades people who don't make A's in her class and does not care about her students and she consistently makes mistakes... she hasn't taught this class in over 5-6 years and i know state won't do anything to fire her but please DONT TAKE HER!!
An ok professor. She does seem to talk down on students though. If you work hard you will do ok. If you excel at math you also should be ok. Lectures go fast and tests are hard but fair. Do all the homework, extra credit, and study at least a week before the test. It can be hard to get help from her. I would recommend having friends for help.
Dr. Petrovich is the best! If I could take her for every chemistry course I would. There are so many resources to use for exams. She give TopHat questions in class, one webassign a week, optional worksheets and two practice exams that can be used to study for every exam. If you put in your part there is no reason you should not be successful.
Beware she is not helpful and she legit does not care if you do well or not in her class. you might be better off with dr.martin who actually is nicer
Belittles students. Seriously, I see people mentioning how great her lectures are and I wonder if we are talking about the same professor. In my class, over a third of the class is either currently failing or in serious danger of doing so. She is impossible to get a hold of. In my first year, no professor cared less for their students than her.
Dr. P is a good professor, people complain about her since the course is hard. If you know how to do the webassign then you will do fine on the exams. Most homework problems have a step by step video attatched on how to do the problem. She gives a practice exam before each test and opportunities for extra credit on the exams.
DO NOT TAKE FOR 201! I get it that Q Chem is hard, but as a teacher it should be your duty to make it as easy for you students as you can. That, she does not do. She has been very rude to students when responding to email. I learned absolutely nothing from sitting in her class, but you better be there to answer tophat questions.
Dr. P is an amazing teacher. She provides more than enough material and practice. It is harder material but if you practice you can pass. All the lectures align with homework and exams. She even gives practice exams that are basically each exam. She is phenomenal and the way to succeed is just do the work and study rather than expect a prize.
DO NOT TAKE 201 WITH DR PETROVICH. She hasn't taught this class in so long and it is HORRIBLE. She's mean to students who ask for help, doesn't give useful or respectful feedback, and grades extremely heavily on tests. Her tests do not match the material given to study and are way harder than the homework.
Dr. P gives students a lot of study material that makes this class better. CH 201 is not an easy class, but she provides videos explaining homework problems and practice exams before each test. Her tests are hard but bearable, with some extra credit given at the end. She can be a little snarky in emails but overall a good professor.
Dr.Petrovich is an average teacher and she is mean. HOWEVER, her tests are short response while Dr.Martin gives MCQ tests (short response = partial credit); if multiple choice tests are not your cup of tea, I strongly suggest you take her. she does provide a lot of extra credit, but you CANNOT slack at all. practice the hw and textbooks regularly.
Dr. Petroviich is a phenomenal chemistry professor. She was very detailed in her lectures- really content heavy, that's just what the course demands. I found success in taking the lecture notes beforehand and followed along with the practice problems in-class. Her tests were fair, no complaints (3 tests plus final). Overall, take her if you can.
the reviews praising her are not accurate; my test scores: 75, 76, 87 and 91. I had to study for over 2 weeks to get that 91 for my final; unless you want short responses over MC tests DO NOT TAKE HER
Attendance was graded on TopHat based on accuracy. That's all you need to know about this professor and how much she cares about students having a hard time learning a new topic.
She goes CRAZY fast. Especially in Chem 101 where everything you learn is so interconnected, it doesn't make sense. God bless my TA Sarah, she is an absolute godsend and makes Chem easy. Dr P is witty and interactive and all, but it doesn't make the any easier to understand. AVOID AT ALL COSTS IF YOU SUCK AT CHEM, LIKE MOI.
If you already took chemistry before it will be great to have Professor P.
She thinks that she is witty and funny during lectures but she is not. She assigns problem sessions during which the given problems are the easiest ones, then she gives you review, which is time limited, and the cherry on top is the test that does not follow the given review or the problem sessions problems. Very condescending and hard to approach.
Dr. P goes very fast in lectures, but she always has lecture videos available online. She gives extra credit for both tests and attendance. Her tests are VERY fair, just review her top hat questions and take the practice tests and you will do well. She is also very interactive and always does hands-on demonstrations. I recommend her. Stan Lori.
Breathes super heavy into her microphone. All MCQ on the tests, which makes it impossible to get partial credit. She didn't update lecture summaries after the 2nd week of class. TopHat attendance sucks. I only ever learned from my recitation and lab because she explained everything in a long-winded manner, so I eventually forgot what the topic was.
Honestly, this professor does not care about the students at all. I went to her office hours multiple times and she did not even pay attention to my concerns. Every time that I went to her office hours, she complained about her own work, instead of helping me with understanding the material. I do not recommend this professor.
This is not a 5 star difficulty course, nor is Mrs. Petrovich a bad teacher. Tests are MC but the questions are all from homework or from lecture/tophat. Yeah attendance is mandatory but if you make like half the lectures you get full attendance points. For how much info there is in CH101, she does a great job of covering everything. Labs suck tho
Lectures were generally boring and if you miss something you just have to find it in the textbook. Tests were really easy until they weren't. Absolutely hates cheaters. easy. just dont cheat.
I only had Petrovich for lab so I never met with her in person, but let me just tell you, lab was the bane of my existence this semester. Pre-lab, in-lab, post-lab every week, and the post-labs were ridiculously hard and the content is always way ahead of what you're learning in lecture. #1 tip: Make friends in your lab so that you can get answers
Dr. Petrovich did a great job making chemistry understandable. Her slideshows were detailed and helpful and were posted online along with recordings of her lecturing off of the slides. Tests were very similar to homework and she assigned a practice test for extra credit before each test. A very nice professor overall and I highly recommend.
Nothing outstanding, the course was pretty difficult and moved pretty fast. Petrovich isn't the best lecturer but definitely one of the better ones for CH101 so I would recommend that people take her.
This was a lab taught by a TA, so I didn't have direct experience with Ms. Petrovich. That being said, the coursework was okay at supplementing the lectures but was often confusing. She often included information that wasn't even mentioned in lectures, which made the work slightly confusing. Show up to the labs and do your best, you should be fine.
LOVE LORI! She is a great professor and as long as you do the homework and understand it well, the tests are easier. She is such a nice person and I enjoyed her lecture. Attendance is really important but you can always just log into the top-hat from your room if you don't feel like going (wouldn't recommend unless really good at the material.)
Hadn't taken chemistry since sophomore year (right when COVID hit) so was super worried about taking this class. I definitely struggled at first because I had basically no prior chemistry knowledge, however, I found great success in studying HARD for the semester tests/final, and everything ended up working out. I recommend going to office hours!
I love Dr. P! Tests have up to 5 bonus points and are all multiple choice. She seems to really care about her students and she keeps lectures interesting and quick to the point. Really have to pay attention in class to get the material though. I do not recommend skipping class.
The class itself is not easy. However, Dr. P. makes everything look simple. She has many videos that you can watch to do the homework. She gives extra credit and gives study guides that are previous exams or similar questions to what will be on the exam. You must study or you won't pass. However, she is one of the best professors in State.
I really liked her, the lectures are very fast-paced but its a lot of content to get through so it's understandable. I found taking notes before class and then following along with her examples to be the most effective. She does a lot of top-hat questions which help you understand the material and her tests are fair with a lot of partial credit.
10/10 best professor I've had at NC state. Lectures are understandable and heavy on problem solving which prepares you well for the test. If you take her for CH201 make sure you do the worksheets and practice test beforehand they make the test feel like a walk in the park.
Organic chemistry was easier than quant chem, but I'm biased because I hate math. Overall, she gives you way more extra credit opportunities than most profs would. Terrible lecturer though. Your typical freshman weed-out course that's more pain than it should be.
This was a challenging class, but the homework videos really helped. She knew how to explain things she just went really fast or really slow in lecture. The tests were also challenging, but I recommend studying everyday throughout the semester or else it will make the class much worse.
Class was very fast-paced, I found that it helped to have the lecture slides pulled up in front of you, taking notes before lecture helped, and tests were based on homeworks, top hats, and test reviews. Tests received a lot of partial credit. Extra credit is given at the end of the year which saves your grade.
mean
Great teacher, the only bad part is that lectures are fast-paced. Though she has all of her videos online so it is easy to keep up and learn.
Bunch of in-class questions that you will need to answer for participation credit. Tests are based on tophat questions, homework questions, and test reviews. All test reviews allow up to 5 extra credit points for the corresponding test. Lectures are fast-paced, though she has all of her videos online so it is easy to keep up and learn.
I had Petrovich for CH 201. Fast paced lectures, but all the content can be easily found online. She posts step-by-step videos and the textbook also has lots of information. The homework prepares you well for the exams. Lots of work, but anyone can get a good grade in her class.
Very great professor, just be ready to study hard for the tests.
Tests are all multiple choice with 28 questions. I have never studied so much for a class, and still fail every test. She provides an exam from the year before and gives up to 5 pts extra credit for every test. The final is worth 26% of your overall grade. Very fast lectures. Had to rewatch the lectures after every class to keep up.
Best professor I have ever had. She really wants everyone to succeed and gives so many resources. As long as you do the homework and redo homework to study for exams you should be totally fine. She is really really smart and does a great job at understanding questions and clarifying things. Lectures are intense but she never over/under-explains.
Dr. Petrovich was a great Chemistry 101 professor. Utilize the prerecorded lectures in Moodle and review all the homework assignments to study for the tests.
Super fast paces lectures, took all my notes using prerecorded moodle vids. Test are okay, oftentimes ran out of time which she is strict on. Important to try on homework and do practice problems. Test 3 is very hard, would recommend studying a week in advance. considering other profs, shes def not the worst. be warned: shes out to get cheaters
Great Professor.
I loved Dr. P! This class was very difficult, but her lectures on moodle really helped me to remember the content. Studying the notes and doing the homework is so important! She also gives extra credit opportunities on every test, including the final! As long as you study the content the class is fine. I would definitely recommend her!
Dr. Petrovich is amazing, she makes chemistry interesting and fun to learn about. She does move through lectures very quickly, but she has pre-recorded videos on all of her lectures throughout the semester which are super useful. She also gives extra credit points for all tests and the final, and curves tests if everyone does bad. Highly recommend!
Dr. Petrovich is one of the best chem professors at NC State! Her lectures are fast-paced, but you can watch pre-recorded lectures for clarification. She gave us the opportunity for extra credit towards all four midterms plus the final. Exams are all MC; midterms had 28 questions and the final had 57. Would definitely recommend taking her class!
Under different circumstances, I think I would have enjoyed this class a lot. It was very fast paced and I believe not every topic (mainly theory) was essential, but that is more of a criticism of the curriculum rather than teacher. Petrovich is a wonderful teacher with great fashion taste, and she provides many resources for you to succeed.
I think Dr. Petrovich is a solid teacher. The class is very lecture-heavy and may be fast-paced, so rewatch lectures if necessary. She provides many opportunities for students to bump up their test grades - she's generous by giving a maximum of 5 bonus points on each unit test, and a maximum of 10 points on the final. Would likely take her again.
Dr. P is great, she's a good teacher and person. I only struggled so much because she goes SO FAST. I struggled with chem a lot before too though. BE READY TO WATCH THE LECTURES BEFOREHAND. Your success relies on being prepared BEFORE the real-life lecture. Attendance is mandatory, but you can do it from your dorm with less accuracy. Hates cheaters
First and foremost, she is most certainly the most difficult general chemistry teacher. That being said, she put effort into lectures and really tried her best to make it interesting. Exams weren't unreasonable and as long as you did the homework and practice they were okay. Just be prepared to study and you're fine.
Dr. P is a great professor! She is super caring and really responsive if you have questions! Her lectures very fast-paced, and I always took my notes outside of class because I couldn't keep up with her in class. The tests have extra credit, which is nice, and they are similar to the homework. I would take her again!
She is the best! She gives out many extra credits, helps with the homework, and gives valuable sources for tests and the final. Lectures are rarely boring. She is very accessible outside of class and cares for her students.
Mrs. Petrovich is a good professor. It is definitely possible to get a great grade in this class but I utilized the resources she gave too late. WATCH her lectures and DO the practice tests. ALWAYS take notes. My complaint is what while her posting lecture recordings is appreciated, the organization of it is pretty bad.
Decent overall, but she does not round grades. Very frustrating
Dr. Petrovich was great! Her tests were based on homoew
She gives tons of resources and is happy to help people. It's a difficult class, but as long as you watch her lectures, study, and do her old practice test, you should be fine. She does give up to 5 points of extra credit on every test based on a practice test. Prepare yourself for quick lectures and a lot of studying outside the class, though.
She flies through the lectures so plan to take notes after class! If you struggle with chemistry, take the practice tests she provides before tests and go to supplemental instruction and you will do well!
Dr. P is a queen. Although her lectures are fast-paced, she makes it engaging and posts all the slides and recordings of lectures on Moodle for you to review again if needed. She offers up to 5% extra credit on each midterm exam and the final exam. Homework assignments are very helpful.
Hard class, she makes it as easy as she can. Explains things well and cares about students if you ask for help. Pretty funny during lecture, just make sure to take notes and study them along with the homework. She gives practice tests from the prior year which help a ton.
She is a great professor who teaches an insanely difficult freshman weed-out. I suck at math, so this class has been rough for me. However, she offers lots of extra credit and is a very nice lady. If you put in the work outside of class, you will be fine.
Dr. Petrovich for sure knows what she's doing, but I feel as though she goes too fast and rushes through material, hence making lectures difficult to follow. Her tests are well-made and not terrible, but you really need to study everything in the required chapters for the test to make sure she doesn't surprise you with anything. Do practice tests!
Took me a while to get used to the way she taught math but she wasn't awful. She gives good resources to study... STUDY PRACTICE TEST. Did not realize she had one for the first exam and made a D, studied the practice test for the other exams, and made high Bs. (without trying on homework or paying attention in class which I recommend you do)
Final replaces lowest midterm if it's better. Tophat questions graded on correctness, but she basically gives you the answers. All test questions were "math essays." It's pretty much an applied math class. Participation: 6.67%, HW (10 + 1 EC): 20%, Midterms (4): 53.33%, Final: 20%
Petrovich is a great lecturer. Other than that, she goes through her lectures quick and does tophats for attendance. Tests are the majority of the grade, so if you do bad on them you will receive a low grade. Does not round final grades and does not curve.Extra credit assignments are difficult and contain a time limit. Rude person overall.
Mathematical essay tests, each of which you could earn extra credit for with a practice on WebAssign. One test will likely contain 3 chapters instead of 2. Practice tests, worksheets, and HWs are all good practice for exams. Rewatching lectures was also a must. Overall, difficult subject, but she did her best to make it easier.
I enjoyed being in her class (especially hearing the stories of my friends in the same class, with different teachers). The extra credit assignments were worth a lot of points and really helped to prepare for the tests. Her only downside is that her lectures went so fast, and I always needed help from my friends to do the homework.
Professor Petrovich's CH101 class is challenging but rewarding. She provides great resources like practice tests and recordings, so staying on top of the material is key. I found unstuckstudy AI and the textbook really helpful for study prep.
This professor is nice, but she goes so so so fast through the lectures and is somewhat hard to understand. If you struggle with this class, I would highly recommend attending the supplemental instruction sessions and visiting the chemistry tutorial center.
Very good at teaching but... I had to take CH101 again with a diff prof and realized how unnecessarily difficult she makes class. Makes you do sig figs & memorize polyatomic ions, other profs don't. Final replaces the lowest grade but the final is tough. I got a B+ in CH201. Its not impossible and shes nice but I'd choose a diff prof if possible.
Dr. Petrovich did a good job teaching an insanely hard subject. Attendance is mandatory and the pace of the class is extremely fast. I recommend taking the notes of the following lecture the night before so you can follow along in class. Her office hours are helpful and she provides lots of resources on the class page to study with.
You need to go to class to understand the material. She speaks way too fast to let you write anything down and isn't the warmest person when it comes to needing help. The timing for the exams are terrible, especially since she adds an extra for a total of 4 midterms.
Dr. P was really a great professor, and I would absolutely take her again. She made digesting some of the tougher material easier but some of the time her examples/metaphors didn't exactly land. I was lucky to get a longer class period that had a weekly online lecture which I've heard made the class easier so if you can, take that.
Dr. Petrovich is great, she makes chemistry easy to understand and offers many opportunities for help outside of class, as long as you keep up with homework and use her study guides for tests you will do fine.
I agree that Dr. Petrovich cares about her students, but the pace of her lectures and the extremely hard exams make it very hard to succeed in this class. Let alone this is the only professor I have ever had at State that refuses to review covered material the lecuture before an exam and instead starts to teach new material for the next exam.
Petrovich is one of the better chemistry professors at NC State. However, she moved through the material VERY fast, which works well for very smart people, but people who struggle with paying attention in class will struggle in this class. Also, tons of homework and extra lectures to watch over the weekend.
Dr. P is an awesome professor, she can be reached by email and is super helpful. She also gets to know the students that interact with her and she is super nice. She does go through the content at lightning speed, but once you get used to the pace her lectures are not terrible. There is extra credit before every exam which is super helpful!
This is the worst class i have ever taken she is so bad at teaching, gives so much hw, attendance is crazy, and you get no test review and for the last day instead of any type of final exam review it is new material the tests are so hard She is a horrible profesor and says intro class its not. DONT TAKE IT WITH HER she is horrible!!!!!!!!!!!
Dr. P doesn't deserve the low rating she has. People rate her bad because they don't put work into classes their freshman year. CH 101 is hard; you'll need to show up to every lecture, and you'll need to study. Practice problems are integrated into lectures. Take good notes, she talks FAST. TLDR: put in the work and you'll pass.
Dr. P is a great professor for 201. She goes in depth with examples so nothing on the tests should be a surprise or something you're seeing for the first time. She re-opened HW that I had missed w/o needing an excuse. The class is tough, but go to lecture and do the practice exams and you'll be fine. Also she gave extra credit for every test!!
Dr. P provides you with all of the resources you need to succeed. Practice problems will be the most effective way to study for her tests, as there are hundreds of them on moodle. However, her lectures were super hard to follow and extremely hard to take notes on due to her quick lecturing style. Be prepared to learn new material outside of class.
She's fast and never slows down but is what should be expected from this course. Her math slides can be confusing at times as she types it out instead of working it out in class. She is nice about grading as she looks more at what you did to solve the question instead of what you actually got as your final answer. Many extra credit opportunities.
Loved her class! Recommend Attendance: TopHat questions, graded by participation and accuracy (not bad) Weekly Homework: Webassign (has adjusted due date if lecture falls behind). Homework has videos which is a good reference if stuck. 4 Exams +Cumulative Final, Practice Another on Webassign, gives lots of review material & extra credit, no curve
Attendance is mandatory but the lectures aren't helpful. I had to rewatch all lectures and reteach myself everything. Exams are kind of difficult, but not too bad if you allocate lots to time to study. Exam 3 had material we didn't even learn, so don't bother studying. She goes through the lectures slides so fast. It's hard to grasp the material.
Petrovich is good at teaching but goes too fast during lectures, which makes it very hard to keep up with slides and notes. I had to reteach myself everything. Waste of time. Instead of reviewing for exams, she taught us new material. She makes this class more difficult than it should be and makes us learn more than what other professors teach.
Professor Petrovich has a teaching style that is difficult to get used to. She goes through slides and practice problems incredibly quick and taking notes with pen and paper is almost impossible. Test 3 is by far the most difficult but she offers an opportunity to get points back. Try not to miss classes because attendance is part of your grade.
Dr. Petrovich is a good teacher but she goes so fast during lectures and I only got through the class thanks to learning from friends in Orgo. She doesn't seem to really care about her students though at times and at others is very flexible. Quick to respond to emails and homework and exams arent too difficult. tests are multiple choice.
She talks incredibly fast, incredibly rude and unwilling to help students. She rambles during lecture, and exams are always SO much harder than any content we went over. I basically had to teach myself the content because her lectures are insufferable and make no sense. Overall, she seems she could be nice outside of class, but she CANNOT teach.
Dr. Petrovich encourages the nature of this being a weed-out class. Lectures so fast that she is constantly catching her breath between slides, so much so that her breathing is heard on the microphone. If you write down notes from the slides like I did, she will move to the next slide before you can write the down the second bullet point.
I wouldn't let the reviews throw you off, Mrs. Petrovich is't that bad of a teacher. You don't have to be a genius to pass, I would strongly recommend studying hard when you get to Acid and Bases. That test is usually the worst. If you have multiple test coming up around the same time, don't expect her to make arrangements unless its final exams.
Good person and professor, class and exams are just difficult. A lot of Webassign too.
Dr. Petrovich was very nice and knew what she was doing! There is TopHat for this class, but she works out the problems with you, allowing enough time to enter the answer! Her slides are not hand-written, but her lecture problems are. I would recommend taking notes on an IPad. There are homeworks due each week, but not bad. I would recommend!
Dr. Petrovich made it clear her class was a weed-out course, even graphing its difficulty in one of her first lectures. Her teaching was scattered, often covering topics from advanced chemistry and then dismissing them as irrelevant until later years of Chem. While my grade reflects my efforts, her approach contributed to my struggles in the class.
She does a decent job at explaining concepts, just moves very quickly. But all lectures are posted on moodle so if you get lost, you can just go back and watch it again.
Petrovich is a good teacher for gen chem. The topic isn't the easiest, but she definitely helps make it easier. Hard to reach outside of class, but otherwise great!
So far, not too bad. But I literally have to go home and watch the lectures. theres no point of coming to class she talks SO fast.
Dr. Petrovich leads a very organized lecture that moves quite quickly but prepares you well for exams. Attendance affected grade and was taken through Tophat, but if you come to class and study enough outside of class you will do fine on exams.
I love Dr.P! I know some people don't like how quickly she lectures, but chem covers a lot of material and she makes sure you know everything you need to know. She gives extra credit on every test and makes videos on youtube if students need any help. Also attend SI! It helps so much
Literally the rudest teacher I've ever had. She does not want to help students AT ALL. She could literally care less about your grade or you! Such hard class
I had Dr P for Chem 101 and 201. She is one of my favorite professors so far! Up to 5 points extra credit on every test and 10 on the final. She does lecture pretty fast so it takes some adjusting but I feel like once you adapt to her teaching style the class isn't bad. Chem isn't easy but I found her summary slides and practice test helpful.
The only thing I liked about Dr. P was the extra credit opportunities for each test. I feel like she taught at a normal pace in the first half of the semester but the second half, she basically just read off the slides. It wasn't even that helpful to go to class tbh I only went for attendance.
The only thing I really liked about this class was the amount of extra credit opportunities (attendance extra credit and 5 points on each exam) but everything else was bad. She talks so fast sometimes it's impossible to take good notes. I also noticed that if you ask a question she will act extremely annoyed and make you feel dumb about it.
I am not really a big fan of Petrovich, there are worse professors, for sure. She is organized, and her materials are helpful, but she moves really fast. Normally, that is not an issue for me, but it is hard to keep up or even be engaged. Tests are hard. Lots of webassign assignments.
I don't really like her as a person but she's really good at what she does. Expect your tests back very quickly and with good feedback. If you do the extra credit you should be fine but the lectures are really boring.
Was extremely rude over email and in class. Don't bother asking questions during lecture unless you want to be shamed in front of 300+ students. Does not care about the well being of her students or their grades and is NOT WILLING TO HELP YOU. AT ALL. Reads off the slides for the entirety of the lecture and always makes grading mistakes.
Lori isn't a bad professor but this class just sucks. It's not impossible, but she simply reads off the slides on how to do the problems. You need a strong chemistry foundation in this class. Lecture is mandatory, but not all that useful. In order to do well, you'll have to just practice problems over and over. 5/10 wouldn't recommend.
Very good chem professor. Very friendly and likeable. Class is difficult, but if you show up to lectures and pay attention you'll be fine.
I would take Dr. Petrovich again in a heartbeat! While her class is faster than some other Chem 201 sections, I felt like the pace was very consistent, and it never felt like we were rushing. Although she doesn't curve test grades, she offers so much extra credit each test I don't think a curve would've mattered that much. Overall 10/10 experience
Dr.Petrovich is an amazing instructor I would say. She does go fast in her lectures so I would definitely say set aside time to review the lectures. Her tests are pretty hard but she makes sure to assign a lot of work to prepare you for them. Attendance is graded through TopHat.
Dr. Petrovich is a good professor, but know lectures are long and hard to focus in. This is a class that requires much work, and a solid chemistry base before the class begins. Overall though, extra credit (5%) on all the tests except the final was nice, and she was a solid professor. There's way worse classes you could take.
Petrovich is great. She posts all the lecture slides on her Moodle page for you to have. You get 5 points of extra credit on every test, and homework is manageable.I think the hardest part of her class is keeping up in lectures, but that's about it. Class is challenging and to get a good grade you cant slack off.
Petrovich herself is pretty nice but this class is just HARD. Seriously, get ready to spend hours a day studying just to pass. She does offer some extra credit but it doesn't help too much. She moves so fast in lectures and expects you to learn difficult concepts quickly. Four exams throughout the semester plus final. Good luck.
She is a b
Petrovich is great, challenging course! Loved her “fast paced” talking but only survived lec with my ipad, pencil, and posted slides! Keep interacting with her and she'll come around. Hw (~15-25 q's) w/ guided vids that saved lives, 4 exams (5pt extra credit max on each!), + final. Review with hw and extra worksheets. Don't slack and it'll be fine!
She gives way too much webassign assignments: usually around 3 per week, which take at least an hour each, which is a lot considering we also have 3 lab assignments due per week as well.5 total exams including final.Class is so lecture heavy and it goes so quickly to the point that you have no time to absorb anything.1st class ive gotten a B.
didn't wear my seatbelt driving to class incase i crashed, she make's it a weed out class i had to take it S/US because she explained everything in the hardest way possible. the only ppl ik who are passing do all nighters days in advance in the library to learn everything on their own time for tests
plz just do not take this class with her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dr. Petrovich is awesome! Its a lot of content but just go to class, study and you'll do fine. Her lectures are awesome and easy to understand but she does move really fast.
Professor Petrovich was my first college professor, and she set the bar for me. She isnt a bad teacher, just one who gives a lot of stuff to do that can feel overwhelming and confusing a lot of the time. Her exams were managable, but the final really cooked me and my grade. She does give very small amounts of extra credit, but it wont save you.
incredibly boring lectures, can be very condescending and her teach style makes the class more difficult than it needs to be
Dr P truly knows a ton about chemistry but this does not make her a great teacher. Even though she has tons of information to provide, she also treats students disrespectfully when 1 on 1 conversations come about. She makes students feel like they are unintelligent and is condescending. Her teaching style is for some but not many. Save yourself.
For the most part Dr. P is a good professor, I feel like she is able to explain the material pretty well especially in her videos, but the relentless tophat questions which all count for attendance drag the class down a lot. She also runs through her lectures so fast so many times you are left having no idea what she is talking about.
just okay. i found that her lecture notes were difficult to understand and I did not do well on her tests. But a lot of people do pretty well in her class so it just depends.
Overall, a great teacher for CH101, it's a root-out class - if you can't do it, skill issue. Dr. Petrovich is a very good teacher overall, and you'll do fine if you actually try.
I just remembered how bad this class was 3 years later and I had to come back and warn future generations. DO NOT LISTEN TO ANYTHING POSITIVE ABOUT THIS PROFESSOR. Literally the worst professor I had during my time at NC State. The way she treats her students is disgusting. But by all means, take this class if you get off to public humiliation!!!!
her lectures were not the easiest to understand and her tests are harder than other professors in the department. one of my friends that took ap chem and had an a+ in his chem class took our practice test and got a 5/25...i fear that says a lot abt petrovich's class. just do as much practice as possible and do not fall behind/procrastinate.
She was alright. This class would be good if you want to take more chems like organic chemistry. If not Take fowler if you can his class seems much easier. Shes not a bad teacher but moves very fast and test are difficult and worth a lot of your grade. It was manageable but I had to study a ton and there were still things I didn't know on the tests
Dr. Petrovich is a great professor. I'm a mechanical engineering student who's not a big fan of chemistry, but her passion and clear, detailed answers made the class interesting. She moves fast and covers more than other CH101 professors, so expect a quick pace, active classroom participation, and engaging lectures with real demonstrations.
This class is good if you want to take organic chemistry. If you don't want to take organic chemistry take CH 101 with fowler since his class is easier. Her tests are much harder than other professors in the department, and she lectures really fast.
Honestly I feel like she gets a lot of hate for no reason. Her lectures are very informative and she's super kind. CH101 is just a hard class with a lot of material. If you study you will do good.
This woman Petrovich is fighting her own war and she has no rules, no boundaries. She doesn't flinch at torture, human trafficking or genocide. She's not loyal to a country or a flag or any set of ideals. She trades blood for money. She's your new best friend.
Would give her a higher rating if it wasn't for her fast pace with lectures; had an easier time learning by watching her 5 year old recordings on my own time. Attendance was taken via answering TopHat questions during lecture, nothing too bad. But the homework load, especially at the start of the semester, can be a lot per week (esp with lab work).
Makes 3-4 credit hours feel like 6. Attending lectures was rendered useless despite being mandatory. You're better off rewatching it online; the note-taking process takes considerably longer than it would if the in-person lectures alone were sufficient. Does 2-3 lectures on the next unit before a unit test, as opposed to a review lecture.
I ended up with a B in the class which I am very happy with considering I went the entire semester fighting for a grade above a C-. I had to rewatch EVERY single lecture prior to the exam for this class. Very fast paced and more in depth than some other professors who teach this. Wish I had taken it with someone else to save myself the stress.
Dr. Petrovich is a good professor who seems to really care about what she is teaching, however the pacing and how she teaches is very very quick. I would have to pre-take my notes to avoid being lost in class as she speeds over complex diagrams and concepts. However, she does allow a number of unexcused absences, which was nice.
Apathetic & rude. Tests are difficult (80% of your grade BTW), & she lectures so fast to the point where she's out of breath. Included ORGO on our final and taught us things that none of the other CH 101 students with different professors knew about. She will make you feel stupid and discouraged. Avoid at all costs. Take a different professor.
This was my first high level chem class and I was able to understand everything by just attending lectures. The tests are extremely fair and very similar to the practice tests. She gives a lot of extra credit and chances to make up points. I found this class easy and the lectures engaging. Only downside was Top Hat participation, I was not a fan.
Goes through the lectures relatively quickly, but gives a good amount of detail. Attendance is graded, but is the easiest part of grade.
I actually really liked Dr. P. Although she moves through lectures incredibly fast, she still does a good job at explaining all the Top Hat questions, which are very similar to the tests. She provides practice tests that are similar to the actual tests, so the tests are very predictable. Chem 101 just requires a lot of studying in general.
High-quality lectures, but her tests are tricky and hard to prepare for. A positive is that she gives extra credit for every test, including the final. If you are diligent in your studying, you will be fine, but she expects you to know a lot more than other professors would, so CH101 with her will be a bit more rigorous than normal.
Dr Petrovitch offered plenty of extra credit, even on things like the final. To be fair, this was probably to balance out the extra material she tested on compared to other chem classes. She very much has the goal of setting you up for future chem classes so if that's your desired major choose her class. Lectures are fast-paced but well-explained.
Pros: Has some extra credit, can skip some lectures, chill during office hours Cons: More material on tests than other chem professors, goes into orgo for some reason, lectures are fast-paced, and slides are confusing. Thoughts: I would only take Dr. P if you have to take another level of chem, if not please choose someone else for your sanity.
I really liked her! She gave a lot of extra credit on exams and provided a good amount of study resources. You can tell she has taught this class many times so she has a lot of experience. I would defiantly recommend her.
Dr.P is a lovely lady and much better than my previous chemistry professors. She actually explains why things work instead of just telling you to memorize information. She does move fast, though, so it's important not to miss too many classes and make sure you study for the exams.
Dr P is amazing if you can keep up with her fast speaking pace; she knows the material and explains well. Homework is frequent and graded, but it's easy. Tests are all mcq and she gives 5% extra credit for doing a practice exam, including the final. Only knocks are the fast pace, and she is pretty short and rude when talking 1 on 1 with students.
Was very fast/lots of stuff, but if u study, you'll be fine. She also gives 5% of extra credit for all tests, including the final exam. all tests are multiple choice
Dr. Petrovich is great at what she does and obviously knows what she is talking about. However, I will say that this course is a weed-out course for a reason. I took this class my first semester at NC State and it was definitely a wake up call. As long as you study hard, pay attention (lectures fast), and manage your time well, you will be fine.
