Communicates well. Exam questions usually much harder than material covered!!!
I wouldn't take this lady unless you're a genius b/c she is soo hard, and you are gonna be soo screwed..she goes fast and knows what she's talking about, and likes you to visit her but trust me NO MERCY!!!!!!!
algebra--very smart
I like math., and I get "A" in her class, but I WILL NEVER RECOMENDED!!! She is dam hard and not helpful!!!
Her class is VERY VERY VERY HARD! Her exams are just impossible !!I would say shes helpful but no matter what, you wont get an A!
Just because you think you know what you are doing doesn't mean you will have any clue when you look at her tests. Spends to much time talking about things that you will not be tested on. Almost impossible to make an "A", and if it isn't your only class then it might be hard to make a "C". I would never take her again or recommend her to anyone.
Ya, she sux. it is so hard to do well in her classes.i tried my butt off to get a good grade in her class and ill probably get a C if im lucky.shes very bitter and not nice at all.shes not very personable either, so its hard to get along with her.the tests are so hard, they dont cover anything on the hw.she pix the HARDEST stuf to test over!!
Not to bad. People shouldn't complain so much, she gets you ready for university. I thought she did a very good job with explaining concepts. Not the easiest teacher, but most of them aren't.
Did not help. Tested over stuff not on the assigned homework. Tests were confusing and very short - which means if you got one wrong you didn't have a chance at an A - two wrong, got a C! Wouldn't recommend.
TRUE: What's on the test wasn't covered in class, or book - but that's how universities and real life are. This is made worse because the book doesn't have 2 of each problem (one odd w/ answer, one even without ). NOT TRUE: She's bitter and hates you. I worked my ass off in this class as hard as I did in other university math courses I too
I highly recommend her. She will work with you in class if don't understand. She has been one of the easiest teachers I have ever taken. Her tests are easy, you will only need to practice the excercises on the Homework and you will get the concepts of the course. I took Business Calculus I with her, and it's really sad that she isn't teaching Calcul
Her class was pretty difficult. Her tests were extremely short which left you no room for error. The homework, which isn't mandatory but was supposed to prepare you for the exam, was much harder than what was covered in class. Her exams did not match her lectures. She lets your final double and replace your lowest exam grade though.
She was helpful if you asked for help. Her test don't have that many questions on them, so don't mess up! She wasn't awful, I liked her class but I did work and study to get a B.
She is a very good teacher, helpful, but please, do not miss a class, even do not be late, every second counts, trust me. she gives extra credit work, if you study and practice lots, you will get A. Quizes at the end of the class are very helpful, you can ask for help in the quizes, and she would help you a lot. She looks rude, but she is not!
She is absolutely awsome! I agree, attendance is not mandatory but definitely recomend it. She loves her job and it's obvious. She's very helpful and patient. Hightly recomend her.
this teacher explains things very well but due to the short time frame of teaching all the materials... her tests become VERY hard! if you have lots of time to dedicate towards this class id say go for it.. otherwise look for a new professor
Great teacher, explains things very well, answers questions, is available for help. I still ask her for help in my other math classes. Super smart
One of the best math teachers I have ever had. I withdrew from precalc and had to take it again to get a 'c'. Not only did I get a 'B' in her class, but I understood the material. LOVE THIS TEACHER! Her lectures were worth it... which is more than I can say for most of my other teachers. I hate ACC for not having her teach my calc 2 class.
Lori is a quirky professor and extremely intelligent. Her tests are not long, to the point, no tricks. There are in-class handouts worth 3 pts so you don't want to miss a class. This is calc so assume it is difficult but not impossible to get an A if you pay attention and do the homework. Its not graded but questions from the homework are on tests.
Without a doubt, professor Rosenthal is one of the best in the math department. Initially she might strike you a rude or intimidating; however, she is the complete opposite. If you have questions, she will be happy to help you answer them. She def stands out in the somewhat gloomy math dept. I hope see more of her in my future classes. :D
Please do not let this professor's rating fool you. Her class is ridiculously difficult. There is no review for tests, your grade depends entirely on the Test, and each test contains the 10-15 questions with the greatest degree of difficulty possible from the book. Consider yourself warned
Most people think she is rude, but I found her intresting. She is helpful, but you have to ask, some what impaitient, but does her job well. She was there when I needed help, but didn't give me the answer but led me to it, which helped me learn to figure it out! Good teacher, good class!
this professor is one of the best professors i had in my college career. yes she can be hard at times but she will help you when you need it. don't waste your time in learning lab but go to her instead. her tests are not long, she posts a review online and thats what is on the test. i made an A easily in her class because she made everything clear.
Lori is one of the best instructors I've ever had! Her lectures are very clear. She cares about her students & will take the time to ensure you understand the concepts. Her tests are short & easy to pass if you've done the HW. She drops your lowest HW score. Your lowest test score is replaced by your final exam, only if the final score is higher.
Doesn't know how to explain. Require you to write essay or term paper for her class. Overall, not helpful at all.
I loved her class. If you actually want to learn what you are doing and why then I highly recommend choosing a section she teaches.
This was a hard class with lots of homework. But its hard cause I'm bad at math. Lori was awesome. She's a good teacher. I'm glad we had the homework and as much cause that really gets you to grasp the stuff. This class is no joke. You need to make LOTS of time for it. Either way if she taught my next course I would totally take her again.
It was the hard class for me. She was not very helpful.
This professor overall is a unique teacher. Her lectures are well and her attitude of teaching is quite positive. But she doesn't explain her material very well, and her tests are quite hard (but not impossible). Overall she is quite good but you need to learn the material yourself.
Overall a nice lady but can sometimes get short tempered/frustrated. Tests are not easy but she dedicates an entire class to reviewing it, be prepared to ask questions b/c she wont tell you what you need to know. I'd recommend her over McCarthy.
Ever since getting accepted into UT Austin i feel like my life has been a hell, considering taking whole bunch of math and science classes. Professor Lori is considered to be a EASY teacher compared to UT. She is clear with her examples and her explanations and her grading is easy compared. Go to her for help and enjoy because its very hard at UT.
Awesome instructor. She provides great instruction, she is tough, but fair.
Lori is the best math teacher I've ever had. She was really patient and seemed to get when we were lost and was willing to go over the material that we were stuck on. She is not an easy grader. Take the semester project seriously. It saved my grade.
Class is easy. Mostly a review for me. Very generous in her grading. Online notes are a big help. Can do everything from home. Just have to show up for quizzes. A very positive prof. She actually remembers everyone's name. She is a must have.
If you want to learn the subject matter then take her. She is an awesome professor.
This prof is not too hard: she doesn't put physics questions on the tests, she's fine if you use your calculator/mathematica for single integrals on the test, hmwk is completion grade. She does seem grumpy and she stopped posting class notes/test reviews on blackboard after the 2nd test. There is a proj that is due right around the time of test 3.
Great teacher, she takes her time to explain and go over the examples. Will answer questions accordingly. Will use textbook mostly to do homework.
She is a great professor.
Going to class and doing the homework is not enough to get above a "B" on the exams. The exam questions are significantly more difficult than the material covered and she is a tough grader. She does offer some extra credit and the final counts as a test no matter what, although it replaces your lowest test grade as well. Would not take her again.
Teaches Calculus in a very interesting way from a very understandable point of view. Doesn't assume you already know what you are doing and will stop to break it down for you if you muster up the courage to admit you got lost (it's calculus - you WILL get lost at some point). Very approachable and easy going. Three thumbs up, I'm an alien.
I took Professor Rosenthal for Calculus I-III. Her lectures are usually very clear and she's more than willing to stop and explain this again, or clarify, if needed. My only complaint about Professor Rosenthal is that she steadily got less organized and sometimes assignments didn't come back in a timely manner.
Rosenthal only lectures on proofs, theorems, and definitions. There is no practical examples so there isn't much reason to go to class except quizzes and the participation grade. Her tests are extremely hard and tedious and she's a tough grader. Your only review is the homework and book and even with complete mastery of both it's hard to make an A.
She was nice. Gives you a chance to ask questions. You have to pay attention during lecture ... her tests can be short or long depending on what u need to know.
Her presentation of the concepts was clear and she doesn't hesitate to re-explain if you don't understand the first time. She will review homework/quiz questions during class and reviews everything that will be on the test. Do the homework- test questions come directly from the homework.
Lori tries to explain so everyone understands. If you don't put an effort in and do the homework, in addition to showing up, you won't pass. I would do most of the homework (it wasn't mandatory), I only missed one day of class, and I came in if I was confused. There are papers which don't seem like the fit the course, but they are easy.
She is awesome..... Ready answer your questions even if you have to ask her 10 times... Never seen a professor this nice. She is the best 100/100.
Difficult class, broke my 4.0 with a B. Still, Professor Rosenthal is a very caring, smart teacher. She grades strictly but wants to help her students succeed and will stay after class to help you. Ultimately, calculus is calculus and whatever professor you have it's gonna be hard.
Her lectures are very well organized and clear. She uses different colors to contrast different elements of the concepts on the board. Instead of assigning lots of HW, there are in-class quizzes to make up most of the non-test grades. She answers questions clearly and obviously knows math very well. A solid choice.
Poorly organized and instructing too many classes. Lectures rushed, poor feedback from homework if you got it back at all
She was a fun teacher, she cracked jokes in class and was generally a chill person. Her lectures were clear and interesting but her inability to clearly answer questions was annoying. There were multiple times during the year that she was clearly unprepared for class. She's a good choice to have fun and pass, not a good choice for serious students.
Lori is a very caring person but very scatter brained at times. If you are going to take her make sure you clearly understand dates and deadlines because those tend to get foggy unless you press her on it. On the math side, she knows her stuff and will gladly help during office hours. Also, gives a good amount of extra credit.
Ms Rosenthal is very patient and likes you to get the understanding of the material. She is very good and as long as you don't miss classes you will be fine. Definitely, will take her again if I'd need to.
Rosenthal is a solid choice. I took her 11 week summer course and even though it was at a faster pace than usual, it went smooth. She is funny and enjoys teaching math. I would absolutely take her again.
Coming from a student who hates math, she's a good and caring teacher. Definitely a tough grader, but she figure out ways to improve your overall grade.
You dont get points for the doing the homework because she does not check it. She is an unprepared and disorganized teacher. If you ask her a question during class, she gets angry because she doesnt feel confident about the subject. When she makes a mistake during the lecture, she skips that portion of the lecture (it's kinda of funny).
I took this professor in the summer, and it was just the worst experience ever in ACC. She was very disorganized, not fair, and makes mathematical mistakes, students start pointing her out, and since all her examples are copy pasted from the book, it was easy for us to tell when she makes mistakes. Not recommended at all. Retook calculus III got A+
No extra credit, but your required final comprehensive can replace your lowest test grade if you score higher than your lowest test. The 3 lowest homeworks are also removed from your final grade. The textbook problems are optional but essential for passing cuz this is Calc 1 y'all. She prepares you any kind of Calc teacher in future classes. Yeet!
The example problems she uses during her lectures are the same example problems that are in the textbook. However, you still have to go to class to take the quizzes, which are easy but have almost no impact on your grade. About 90% of your grade comes from the exams which are not easy. Without the extra credit, there is little room for error.
Professor Rosenthal is AMAZING! While you do have to put effort into doing well, she respects hard work. If you show you care, she will care also. She is available after class, and you can email her as well. When you ask questions, she will challenge you to think rather than giving you the answer. She is very generous and absolutely terrific!!
Professor Rosenthal is a solid math teacher. She took plenty of time to ensure everyone understood what was being taught. The only problem is she tends to take everything you say very literally and so sometimes fails to understand what you mean. Be sure to be direct and mathematical if you want her to understand you.
Never talked with her face to face, but she responds to emails quickly, is super helpful, and wants you to succeed. Course content is insanely easy, completing homework assignments is beneficial to understanding each section, and tests follow whats on the study guides. Very easy A if you complete homework and tests on time.
Always available during office hours. Gave lots of positive reinforcement. Complete the recommended textbook assignments and review your notes before every test. Keep in mind that 4/5 tests are in-class and redistricted by the class time.
I've taken A LOT of classes online. Do Not Take this class with this professor online. It's nothing more than a puppy mill. Good luck
Professor Rosenthal is a great professor. Very caring. If you show you are trying, she will understand and help as much as possible.
Professor Rosenthal was okay. Hard to get a hold to at times through email and it took awhile for grades to post. It was pretty much what you would expect out of a college math class (homework weekly, quizzes and tests). She didn't really send out a lot of communication other than an initial email welcoming everyone so you kind of teach yourself.
My experience with professor Rosenthal was pretty positive. She explained trickier concepts in a concise way, and is pretty forgiving of minor calculation errors if your approach is logical and documented well. Also would offer proofs of concepts not documented in the book if asked. Genuine, kind, and knowledgeable. Recommend.
Omg, this professor is the most ridiculous person to ever teach math. She's rude, condescending, and argumentative. If you ask her a question, she sighs and then responds in a sassy way, as if she doesn't really know the answer. In fact, I don't think she's qualified to teach this class. She needs to go back to school and learn how to teach.
Rudest professor Ive ever had the misfortune to know! She grades super hard. If you miss a step, shell deduct half the points. Its so unfair. I tried so hard in this class, but all she did was keep knocking me down. Refused to respond to emails asking for help. Instead, she said come to office hours, but I work at that time. Dont take her!
Terrible experience. Political heavy material. Curriculum not relevant. Took up to 3-4 weeks to grade assignments with no feedback. Testing was terrible. You get limited time to provide too much info.
Professor R is great! She is very kind and doesn't grade too harshly. I suck at math and I got an A, the material isn't difficult but she also makes it easier. There are normally 2 quizzes due on weekends, and a group discussion during the week. There are 5 major grades, like tests/projects. No final. Not too much homework/stress.
It was my huge mistake to take the class of her. She is way too tough grader. I took an online course so literally I can say that she helped nothing at all. I did everything on my own. If I don't understand something, I googled it up. It was always better and faster to ask class-mate than her. Late reply, late grade, late feedback
Never in my life did I think a Calculus course would be THIS difficult. My first two weeks online were full of assignments. 2 online assignments, writing a paper (in math?), and responding to other classmates who didn't understand the material either. Be prepared to either focus on just THIS class or be prepared to drop.
Listen... This is the worst professor I have ever had. Don't bother turning in something a day late. She'll give you a zero regardless. Meanwhile, it takes her 5-6 days to grade anything. She's quick to answer emails but it comes off snarky.
Halfway through this class & I have no idea what Ive gotten myself into. Professor Rosenthal assigns WAY too much homework for anyone who is not a traditional college student (lets be honest, most of us are not and have families or work outside of school). Not to mention, she grades ridiculously harshly- like a 50% for missing 1 question out of 6
I currently have a B in this class only because I spend all of my time on this class but I'm struggling. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. There's a math portfolio due at the end of the year! Me and my classmates have to turn in over 100 pages of work and 2 essays along with a presentation. Stupid requirements and very rude responses from her.
wayyyyy too much work, youre basically reading the whole textbook and teaching yourself. It's math so the textbook can be really hard to understand. Posts notes and videos only sometimes and often at the end of the week even tho HW is due then too. Portfolio project is literally hundreds of pages long.
The class was awful. Be ready to have a lot of work and have a big project at the end of the semester. Your suppose to start the project since the beginning of the semester. All test are supposed to be according to what we learn but she isn't very helpful on giving ways to go about it. Honestly won't take this course with her again.
Humorous professor, passionate about math! Order of taking quizzes was a bit awkward since it was during the beginning of the week, but if you do your homework they are easy. Ask questions and you will understand concepts thoroughly. It's nice having a lot of homework assignments and quizzes so that your average won't rely on tests.
Lori was fantastic, the lectures were subpar and difficult to follow sometimes. They are not exciting but can be engaging. I found myself studying endless hours before tests just to make a B+ on them, which hurt since they were worth 80%. I aced the hw and quizzes and still ended with a B+. thankfully she was generous at the end of the semester.
Professor Rosenthal is a great professor, although she is a bit quick-paced in her lessons she does check with everyone to make sure they understand the lesson. This class is very homework heavy but make sure to do it as it helps with learning all the units. I would 100% take Professor Rosenthal once again.
Really great professor! There's a lot of work and studying but she does a really good job in explaining the subject matter and answering questions. As' long as you're trying you should be good. Very forgiving grader!!
Professor Rosenthal is undoubtedly one of the most amazing, caring, and kind member of our species I've had the pleasure of meeting in recent times. Her passion for mathematics shines through in every lecture. And, her beautiful lectures were among the highlights of my year, I will truly miss them...
Took Calc 1 and 2 as 8-week sessions Her lectures are amazing. In depth, answers all questions, and makes sure the material is exactly what she expects you to learn. Tests are straightforward, and there's a lot of room for partial credit. Honestly one of the best professors I've ever had.
So a sweet professor, and one of my favorites. She explains the concept really well. Always feel free to ask concepts in the lecture or questions in homework.
Super sweet, lectures were easy to follow. Good amount of homework. Took the 8 week course & her pre cal course so the class was smaller = able to ask more questions during lecture which she happily answered. Accessible outside of class and will work with you to help you understand the course. Wish she taught calc 2!
She simply is not a good teacher who think she knows it all, and doesn't help for those that need it.
