easy!!
one of my best teachers at skyline, she is great, very clear and easy tests!
She gives clear lectures and not a lot of homework. You must study for her tests in order to pass.
Wonderful teacher and very nice person.
Good teacher, pretty nice. if you show up 1 minute late and you missed attendence, youre absent.
Overall this class is intersting. Slicton is nice; also very clear and knowledgable in subject. Tests are multiple choice- you must study for them. 1 paper and 1 presentation all semester--both are fairly easy.
this is not her area of interest, i guess, because she lectures terribly, grades hard, does not listen to feedback, and is a stickler for silly rules (one minute tardiness=absence). i heard she was great, but i think thatmust be only for cultural anthro.
A wonderful class taught by an amazing passionate professor. Lori Slicton is the Goddess of Anthropology! Take her class and you to will be rewarded with an experience of intellectual stimulation and inspiration.
Not a very helpful teacher.
She loves her subject, making it easy to enjoy class. Study the book for tests, much of her leacture is fasinating, but not on test! You learn a lot.
She is a really nice person. Classes are boring, but I am not into Anth. But I passed with an A by just doing the work. And she gives a study guide before the test and everything is on it that is on the test. Not terribly hard
Good teacher and very helpful. Good resource for learning about native americans.
Very nice, 10 relfections (1 double spaced paper) regarding issues or topics brought up in class. 3 semester tests scantron 50 questions, and essay portion for exam. Mapybe on presenation or Zoo assignment. I had fun and would recomend her, but read thebookherpresentationsaretrivialyetinformative
This teacher is great. Although during her lectures, she may be prone to rambling about random things, but overall she is a fun teacher.
She is a great teacher, very interesting!!!!!!
she comes off really nice and smart, but when asking for help.. she can be dismissive. she seems easily irritable too. but overall, if you maintain a steady pace, you will ace the class.
Do not take the magic course. She does not talk about anything you wouldn't know already. You might learn a few anthropology definitions at most. Her reviews don't help, but her tests and assignments aren't hard either. Not very approachable, but tries to amuse the class with dry humor.
This teacher is not approachable at all. She is dry, sometimes discourteous, and can this class was a case example of false advertising. The class did not teach us about witchcraft, we learned more anthropological terms and about her other classes and up coming classes she is teaching, but nothing pertaining to witchcraft. I understand that some st
This class was nothing like the course schedule described it as. This teacher is not helpful at all nor will she believe you if you have an emergency of any sort. It seems as if she feels all students are liars and are out to get over on her. I will never take her again.
She really knows her material and tries to make it interesting, very dedicated and helpful if you let her get to know you. Tests aren't too bsd if you study.
Cultural Anth is easy and pretty elementary. Lori has lots of great examples of how cultures work. Do homework and reading, take notes and study the material she gives for the test, be prepared to do your presentation and you will do fine.
Take her for anything you can, she's great! A rare kind of teacher who really wants to help students succeed. Pace yourself and don't let all the work pile up at the end, and you'll do fine.
the worst professor that i ever had at skyline. rambled incessantly, forgot to give breaks, and kept the class 15 minutes late (with no break) at least 3 times. we never covered the material properly, she has no sympathy for anyone and in my opinion does not deserve to have the whole department. she should be replaced soon by a competent person.
Bases grades off of personal feelings and not test scores and papers. Refused arbitration with dean when i had proof that my grade was two points higher then given (proved that i deserved a B and received a D). Guess from her logic I should have learned not to talk back to a feministic nazi of an anthro teacher.
if you do all the work, u wil get an A. Do the reflections A.S.A.P. Make sure to read all the material covered.
Lori is very clear about her expectations and she's good about sticking to the syllabus. Lots of extra credit available. Do the work and you'll do fine.
Lori knows her stuff about anthropology and if you do your work, she's a great teacher however if you have a problem getting to class on time due to work or family issues, she'll mark you abscent... even if she just called your name when you're walking in the room.... very unforgiving lady.
A very enjoyable course, she encourages you to think and work on written communication via "reflections" assignments. A truly inspirational lady, one of the few teachers who will get you excited about learning.
love her class am becoming an anthropology major because of it
I would not ever take one of her classes again. Not a good teacher.
one of the best at Skyline!
Good teacher! Will get a get a good grade if you do all the work and go to class. Make sure you are not late!
The discussions in this class were pretty interesting, but I feel like none of what we talked about really covered what she expects one to know during an exam, so READ. The expressive culture presentation isnt that hard to do, and if you do all of the reflections and get them in ON TIME, this class shouldnt be too hard to get a decent grade in.
Positives: her sense of humor, her interest in the subject, generous grading, generous extra credit opportunity Negatives: some inaccurate info given in lecture, some inadequate explanations given, sometimes relies on students too much to provide answers, hard to take notes from because lecture not organized Overall: i wouldn't take her again
Hey lectures are okay, sometimes she goes on and on. Her Tests don't always fall under the notes taken in class. In order to pass you must do the reflections and the mini presentations/projects. Test is not that easy...
The class can get rather boring if you don't have interest in the topic or get involved with the discussion. The work however is very simple, not very difficult, do reflections, a paper, and the presentation. All in all, i would recommend it the class just because it can be really interesting and the workload isn't too much.
This woman in many regards is the worst lecturer of all time. I regret taking this class not because I got a bad grade but for the sheer amount of hours this woman has wasted in my life that I will never reclaim. On the plus side its impossible to fail this class. If you do all the homework - you cannot get lower than a C.
She lectures alot, and most of it goes on and off about the topic/ chapter your reading on. Lots of reading to do. Tests are hard, i didn't understand where most the stuff that was being asked from the test that had nothing to do with the text book. If your serious about her class go on and take her. Don't expect extra credit too.
Pretty good teacher. Fairly easy homework and tests. Come to class, only reason why I got an OK grade was cause I slacked. Could've gotten an A.
NOT A BAD TEACHER YOU JUST HAV TO DO YOUR WORK ALLL OF IT AND DONT WAIT TIL THE LAST DAY FOR THE REFLECTIONS TRY TO DO THEM WEEKLY E.C. ONLY IF YOU DO ALL WORK TRY TO READ CHAPTERS AS YOU GO ALONG WORK HARD ON THE PAPER AND STUDY FOR THE EXAM NOT TOO HARD E.C. IN THE TESTS
She's not understanding at all. she's pretty scary. She talks way too much, and has no problem calling students out. She seems to know what shes talking about but she expects us to remember all the weird names. I would never take her again and do not recommend her at all.
Her lectures are really hard to follow because she jumps from topic to topic, and it seems more conversational than really information. She is really nice and an easy grader, but the classes are kind of boring. I would suggest her if you are already interested in anthropology, but otherwise, be ready for long, unfocused lectures
Some classes are really interesting, some not so much...some lectures were kind of random. If you aren't paying attention, she's not afraid to call you out. Writing reflections and a term paper were the only assignments. I say take her class if you are into anthropology. If you are just taking it because it sounds fun, it may turn out differently.
Mrs. Slicton is AWESOME! She knows so much and can learn alot if you listen. Her classes are very interesting and you will do well if you do the work.
do not take her if you want to pass. she is very difficult and she will cut you no breaks. listen people do not take her. you been warned
Great class. Course is based on readings and lectures, and if you have good notes from those readings and lectures, you'll do fine on tests. Not much homework either, mainly weekly 2 page reflections and that's about it. She's funny and has interesting lectures. Great class! I really enjoyed it.
I enjoyed the class, she is an interesting lady who is very passionate about anthro. However, she does jump around a lot in lectures and notes are kind of scattered. Enculturation paper was super easy and she gives out extra credit. I missed a couple classes and still got an A
she's very passionate about anthro, but she is very off topic in lectures when it comes to exam time. read, read, read on your own. do all your work. reflections are a given A. you'll be given lots of time to do the enculturation paper to get an A.
Weekly reflections. Final project-going to zoo and spending ~3 hours examining animals. Midterm. Classes was sort of interesting. But midterm was very hard. Definitely not a easy class to pass. Not to mention the final project....
If you want to talk about the Amish for 2 full class periods, take this class. She's cool, but cracks down on people often. Pay attention, take notes, do the assignments don't piss her off, and read the textbook if you want to pass her tests. Participate! She'll like you more, especially if you have a sense of humor.
Very clear teacher. Class was fun because she is very funny teacher and jokes alot. Over-all very helpful and explained greatly. Loved this class. Took her for Anthro 110 also, she is an over-all great teacher!
The reflections are simple, you just have to get them in before the test. Read and do her study guides before exams. Very interesting, nice lady. She follows her syllabus and gives you the final early so you know your grade before the end of the semester. The final is the same as a regular test. This class is fun and easy. Just READ!
Although I never finished her class, lori inspired me to pursue an anthropology degree. due to unforeseen health issues, I was unable to finish her class. regardless, Lori manages to capture the attention of her class, and maintain their interest well after the clock calls for dismissal.
Lori is a wonderful professor. Cheerful and easy-going. She grades fair, doesn't assign too much work. Only 3 exams. She is very intelligent and insightful, making her lectures very fun and interesting.
Professor Slicton is a very intelligent woman. However, I did not like her class overall, she comes off as a rude person at times. If you want an easy class with lots of extra credit go for it. If you want a class you enjoy coming to, think again. I was definately misguided by previous reviews.
Ms Slicton is AWESOME. She really knows her material and her lectures are super interesting. Even tho I had to sit for 1 1/2 hours M-TH, listening to her lecture, I was never bored. She has captivated my interest in Anthropology and I might take more classes just for fun. As long as you attend class and take good notes, you're good in the class.
Lori was absolutely wonderful! i took her summer class and absolutely enjoyed it. to pass her tests: just study the terms and essay! easy A.. simple: do well, study, and participate you will def do well. i highly recommend her she really knows her stuff
I absolutely love this class. It is mostly lecture, but it's very interesting. Just come to class, do the assigned readings, and study for the exams (she gives out study guides!) and you will do fine!
Midterm, Final, and Zoo report only. Honestly had no idea what she was saying during lecture but always just studied off book from study guides. I came to class for attendance only. Extra credit will SAVE you in the long run, easy B if you can teach yourself from the book. lots of videos and lectures
She needs a lot of work in learning how to teach. She tends to be all over the place and not have a clear focus. Honestly don't know why she is still teaching. The only reason to attend class is for attendance, but other than that you will have to learn the material on your own outside of class.
Her class was okay overall. There is minimal work and the lectures were very interesting. Prof Slicton is a fairly easy grader, although her exams are mostly multiple choice. I hated the 10-page essay assignment (this is only for the honors section). But I guess a lot of it was because I didn't really read the books, so I had trouble completing it.
You have to learn materials own your own otherwise you won't get good grade.
DO NOT TAKE HER! SHE IS RUDE AND SHE IS ALSO VERY SARCASTIC. I TOOK HER TWICE AND SHE IS NOT HELPFUL WHATSOEVER. SHE DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO TEACH AND BORES THE HELL OUT OF YOU. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED
She is the rudest person on the planet. She thinks she is better than everyone and does not care about you. She bores you with her lectures because she is so arrogant.
Prof. Slicton is a wonderful teacher. She is clearly very passionate about her field of expertise. All of the people saying she is boring or isn't clear must not be doing their part of work...if you do your part and read, her lectures make perfect sense. She is very knowledgeable and readily available in her office!
She's pretty much the rudest, most entitled, most arrogant, and unpleasant teacher I've ever had in Skyline period. The grade I got was an easy B+ doing minimal work, but hearing her openly berate students and scream at people is something I can't stand. She's one of those "self important" types
If you read the assigned readings, pay attention to the movies, and take good notes, you will pass the class. Her lectures are understandable, but the there's a lot of reading. You need to read the book to do well on the exams.
Prof. Slicton has a passion for cultural anthropology as well as teaching and it shows. She kept the subject matter interesting always giving great examples and was super accessible. She also dedicates an entire class period to review before each exam. As long as you pay attention to her lectures, and don't procrastinate you'll get a good grade.
she was an okay professor. not very organized with her lectures. even though her tests were multiple choice, they weren't easy. however, the essay for her class boosted my grade up one letter (I was getting all C's on her exams).
Must read the book. I didn't and got a "C", most of what she lectured about had to do with the chapter, but only in addition to the reading you've done. Notes alone did not help. Material was super interesting, but I don't feel she was the most engaging professor. Sometimes she wasn't clear either.
Useless and very confusing most of the time. I really didn't agree with her way of handling the class, most of the time. She spoke to the board or made some off the wall comments that really were stupid and didn't relate with the material at hand, aka:waste of money and time. Lastly, she is arrogant and rude. Horrible teacher in all.
she's a really nice professor, plus she's clear in her lectures and useful in her office hours. i don't know why people are saying she's useless and rude, shes probably the nicest teacher i've taken here in my two years at skyline. the tests are alright, the first test is easy and the second and last are a bit harder. just gotta take notes.
Totally unreasonable and if you go to her for help, she doesn't give you many options. She takes roll but the class is pretty boring. You can always just dip and she won't care. Her class is kind of confusing at times and she gets off topic a lot. don't take this class!!!
She may come off as a little rude, but I think it's just her sense of humor. She tries to get people interested with dry humor and life stories. She does tend to go off on random tangents that only sometimes pertain to the lecture. She also tends to jump around topic wise when it comes to lectures, so keep the book on hand for clarification.
Not such a great teacher because her lectures go on the whole class. Sometimes she gets sidetracked & starts talking about other things other than the subject. Her tests are easy if you pay attention in class & read from the texts she asks you to read. Not too much homework but I barely learned anything in this class.
This isn't the teacher for you if you're an Anthropology major. If you just need a humanity to get by, this is the class for you.
Overall a pretty solid teacher. I enjoyed her lectures, they were very interesting and she's very knowledgable. Fun class and the assignments are pretty easy. Short papers, but lots of reading.
Professor Slicton is great. She really does want her students to understand what she is teaching. She does give extra credit but only if you have turned in all of her assignments and taken all the tests.
I learned a lot this semester and genuinely enjoyed the class. Tests aren't very difficult and are pretty easy if you do the reading and attend lecture and take notes. She also does review days before the test so you have plenty of time to go-over concepts. She makes study guides for you also so you know whats coming. Just remember to TAKE NOTES.
literally a good professor, if you want to do really good keep up with all assigned reading, study well for tests and show up to classes! I highly recommend her!!
Easy GE class, with a super nice teacher. Attendance isn't mandatory, but she does recognize those who participate, which could affect a bump in your grade? Only 3 tests that she sends study guides for along with review days before the test, easy 5 1-page reflections as homework. Going to take her again for ANTH 125!
This class is super easy to get a B in, but requires a lot of extra studying and reading for an A. Like all of her classes, 5- 1 page reflections and 3 tests which she sends the study guides for weeks in advance. I don't think participation really matters and she could care less that most of the class was doing non related things on their laptops.
She's a good professor. I took SOSC 150 and Anth 110. I got A in both classes. she sent study guides before exam. Just study for study guides and you can easily pass. Just do your work regularly and you can do three reflections for extra credit. I bet you can get A in this class easily
5 reflections and 3 tests, one essay. Class is difficult for international students or who not good at English. Before every test has a study guide. If you can understand what she talk about get A is so easily. If you don't, work hard with essays. essays can make sure you get a B. Interesting class but need English level on 100 class or better.
slept in class the majority of the semester. Monotone voice. 5 reflections and 3 essays. Easy to get a B. Work hard, play hard to obtain an A. Interesting class.
She is awesome! Honestly, just show up and do your 5 (one page, double-spaced) reflections, one midterm paper, and only 3 exams total and they're nor cumulative, and no final! She's fun but does like to talk a lot, although her lectures are great. However, to do well in the exams, go by the definitions on the textbook!!! gives study guides and ec
Took her for summer class, I have to say it was pretty easy when it came down to the assignments but boy it was so hard to stay awake because during summer her class was like 3 hours. Painful. So boring. She's really nice though and not a tough grader.
She was fair, I received the grade I deserved and her grading criteria was easy to follow. There was no final for her ANTH125 class just 3 exams each 50 questions with 20 true or false. There was also one project and provided extra credit opportunities. Attendance is important since she asked questions about video clips shown in class.
Her class was extremely boring. She expects you to engage and no one really does. If you do all the work and get good grades on the test it's an easy A. She does take attendance into consideration. The class is okay but just boring.
Whenever I can't sleep at night, I regret not ever recording her lectures. All I could remember is that her voice being very soothing and calming.
Mostly lecture, not much homework. Clear on expectations. Sometimes boring lectures, sometimes interesting material. Takes attendance every class. A few textbook readings, 3 exams, no quizzes. 1 paper, a few short homework assignments. Emails you study guide material before all exams, and if actually utilized, that's exactly whats on the exam!
Although she lays everything out in the syllabus, she is a stickler for phone use and tests. She can be a bit moody at times when questioned. She lectures A LOT and if you don't show up there's no way you'll pass as tests mostly consist of lecture material and significantly less reading. She is passionate which is nice, but tests are always tricky.
Professor Slicton teaches a lot about the subject which is good for the class, but when a student talks & it seems she does not want to hear what they have to say, she speaks over them and disregards their thoughts. It is rude when she talks over the student and chooses not to listen to thoughts other than hers, it causes tension in the class.
Slicton is a good teacher and has great lectures. She does not use slides and just writes everything on the board. There are a few tests which are a little tricky, but easy writing assignments and extra credit balance this out. Textbook is not emphasized. She does sometimes talk over people but in my opinion she is still fairly respectful.
long lectures and personally she didn't hold my attention. isn't interesting personally bc i had to take it. boring
Like any college professor Slicton likes to lecture without the use of slides or the internet. She sometimes shows us movies/documentaries about what we are talking about. I feel like I would have gotten an A in this class if I sat in the front. Im not a fast writer but she does talk fast, sometimes! You must read to pass the exams and study also!
This teacher was nice and I would take again because it wasnt super hard. The only things is its so much residing and the tests are on a small, random part of the material. I felt like I wasted all that time reading me then didnt do good on the quiz because it was so abstract. Gives extra credit to help out!
She is definitely worth taking if you are in need of an anthropology class. Don't hesitate at all and know you'll learn something at the end of the day with Prof Slicton as your teacher. She lines everything out in the beginning of the semester and sticks to it. It's straight forward and as long as you follow what's instructed you should be good.
Lori is super nice and explains the material in a way that is clear and easy to understand. Her assignments are straightforward and the quizzes and exams are easy as long as you read the material.
Still hasn't learned how to teach a class on-line. It's Fall 2021, come on!!! Records 10 minute lectures that are announced 20 minutes before it happens. Then she argues with you when you are unable to access the short lectures. She should tell students to click the i next to the zoom video. Thanks to my neighbor who teaches at CSM for that tip!
Lori was an ok Professor. Her lectures were boring and the tests were extremely challenging. I didn't find the subject interesting at all which made the class even worse than I expected. I wouldn't take this class again.
She doesn't assign homework but grades weird on tests so good luck. She tells you to watch her Zoom lectures but still hasn't figured out how to layout her canvas in a way that's easy to understand. She also has assignments up from 2020 so it's confusing to understand what and when it's due. Wouldn't recommend if you like organized teachers.
Do the reading but make sure you show up to class because lectures will expand on what was covered in the book. Make sure your discussion posts and replies are thoughtful, they are a huge part of your grade. The material was really interesting and Professor Slicton is very knowledgeable.
Only a handful of 100pt discussions made up the grade for this course. Exams are split into multiple-choice and written portions. The textbook is expensive but PDFs are available. Prof. Slicton was incredibly kind and wants her students to succeed. She frequently communicated with the class, and her lectures expanded on the textbook.
The course is broken up into three sections with (novel) written and (textbook) MC exams. Even if you study the review guide, the exam questions differed from MC. Little/slow communication, however, the circumstances were understandable. You read a chapter a week, don't fall behind. She's passionate, material can be fun.
great class! The class is quite reading heavy, Discussions are based on articles, 2 parts to every exam, the novel portion is much easier and the Multiple choice section is based on the textbook chapters. The "study guide" is not very accurate compared to the MC tests. easier if you do all the reading and communicate questions.
Ok, so this woman gives absolutely no homework whatsoever. Like a discussion post once a month. HOWEVER, the exams she gives, are TREACHEROUS. These questions have hardly ANYTHING to do with the textbook let alone ANYTHING to do with this class. THESE EXAMS TANK YOUR GRADE! Content=interesting. Professor= sad face
Don't recommend this class unless you want a self-taught textbook reading semester. Prof. Slicton is very detached in her teaching style, and not very helpful.
She's super nice! She left many good comments on my discussion posts and essays that made me think deeply. She answered my emails when I was confused quickly and her lectures were easy to follow. this class relied greatly on watching lectures and reading the textbooks/modules.
Majority thinks she is bittersweet.
Be prepared for insanely specific tests with no relation to the lectures. Would not take the class ever again.
She's very good
I like her teaching style.
Professor Slicton went above and beyond in communicating with the class, and with me personally. In addition to guidance on assignments she gave thoughtful follow up questions that helped me think more critically about the subject matter. She also gave me good advice about my education path, unspecific to this class, which I really appreciated!
This is my second time taking her online. Grade is based off multiple-choice + short answer exams. She records lectures but reading the textbook helps more for the exams. She gives out a study guide and replied quickly via email. The discussions are interesting, but you have to read long articles. She does give good feedback on your posts.
She has excellent knowledge of anthropology & that's certainly a plus. As with all professors, you basically have to agree w/ them on social issues, or you get graded down. That's definitely something I wish all professors didn't do. But no one is perfect. I still recommend her. She is worth the time it takes to do well in her courses
Lectures are detailed, but tests can be tricky. Attendance is a must. The textbook is used, but emphasis is on lecture notes. For study prep, I found unstuck AI and other resources like ChatGPT helpful. Overall, a manageable class with an engaged professor.
super light class with little amount of work so you have to be on top of your assignments (1 missing assignment/exam can tank your grade and you cant make it up unless your have a real emergent excuse). quick and caring responses through canvas email. great teacher would definitely recommend.
