She is very enthusiastic about what she teaches. She obviously enjoys Geology very much. Teaches from slide show and lecture. No book work required. If you come to class its easy. Recommendation: print slides and take notes on them.
She is very enthusiastic and knows her stuff. However, geology of national parks is a lot of work for a 2 credit class.
take this class during the summer! you go on weekly field trips. Really one of the best classes I've ever taken and UWEC.
She really knows her stuff, and will help anyone if they need it. I find it an easy class, because I show up and pay attention. If you do that, you'll do great (there are only two assignments) and ALL her tests/quizzes are based off class lecture!
Good professor, very nice, and very helpful. Amount of work is about right. Tests are okay. All you need to be able to do is read and pay attention in class. Print out her powerpoints, they're very helpful.
she is always gone during exam weeks. it is very difficult for a two credit course
Don't take this class! The labs are the worst I have ever had. If you're not starring at the clock of boredom, you are asking a million questions because no one has any clue of what is going on. She is a hard grader and is not very helpful
She was very nice when I went in to speak to her about assignments and exams, so I liked that. She went through her lecture notes too fast, though. It's not possible to get everything down
This is a 2 credit course, and I do not recommend it, unless you love geology. I found it to be harder than some of my 3-4 credit courses I have taken here. She is not a lenient grader by any means
horribly hard and unfair, graded upon your political standing. she also spent most labs and a lot of lectures talking about how our gov't was going to ruin the world.... i didn't feel that she explained any of our projects that we had to do,we had no idea was was going on.... never agian!
I think Lori is a nice lady and the Geology course I took was about as hard as you would expect it to be. Well, maybe a little harder. She just expects you to learn the material. I think she's a pretty good lecturer, she seems to know her stuff and makes it interesting.
Very nice lady but expects way to much. I found the class to be difficult.
reccommend during summer becuase of field trips....exams are hard, doesn't pinpoint what she wants you to learn on study guides, really random...average class
The only problem I had with this course was that it was 2 credits. It's not like you get a massive pile of work, but it seems more suited for a 3-credit class. Not as bad as some make it look. She may seem a little ****y at first, but really, she's a very nice, understanding, helpful teacher.
She IS always gone during exam weeks! Her lectures were not stimulating (although, geology is not of particular interest to me) and the work load was large for 2 credits. Beware, grades papers poorly, giving horrible critiques of your writing & low grades-I did go dispute her grading & got +points
She has awful exams. I DO NOT recommend this prof for a general. She gets very into detail with her tests and only gives about 3 lecture exams including the final for a whole 3 days a week of lecture notes--INSANE it is WAY too much information for each test and she expects you to remember specifics. Aviod this class it is going to hurt your GPA.
Lori is a very nice lady. She is extremely willing to help. However, the exams are insanely difficult, and she grades the projects VERY hard, she even admits this. Because she knows she grades hard, she has about a 5% curve at the end.
She's a great professor. Her exams and projects are hard, but she's willing to help (if you ask). She was very nice and easy-going. The class was great.
A very nice professor who will help if you show her you care. I thought it was by far the best way to get my lab science out of the way. You get to go on field trips which are pretty cool but identifying rocks kinda sucked. Alot of material on the test which makes it kind of difficult but overall I would recommend her.
This class has way too much in it! She doesn't explain well enough and assumes that you know everything about basic geology. Especially for only 2 credits. This is way harder than my 3 credit classes and it's not really interesting either if you don't like rocks. Avoid this, take oceanography.. it's 3 credits and easier.
very cool prof. easy going. cancelled a lot of labs n classes. hard labs though. assumes we know a lot of geology already.
This is a dumb class, but if you go to lecture you will easily pass. She isn't too boring, and she gives you a really good study guide for her tests.
**** makes things hard
Loved this class...I never knew much about Geology before, but she def. got me more interested. I went to her for help a lot, and she was always willing to help me. I really enjoyed her as a prof!
A good class if you need science credit but hate normal science classes. I find national parks to be fascinating, but she does expect you to know a lot of material.
This class has a 3 hour lab which is really ridiculous! I hated this class and this professor throughout the semester.
Do not take National Parks for a science class. It is a lot of work for only two credits. Tests are kinda difficult. She is pretty boring also.
This professor definitely knows her stuff! I really think that this class should require Geology 101 because there is a lot of material that requires knowledge learned in 101. She is very helpful and does expect you to attain a lot of knowledge in this course. It is very interesting and she is very organized.
I agree....a lot of work for a two credit class but the material learned is pretty interesting....tests are somewhat difficult....just be good at applying concepts.....
Lori grades extremely difficult on assignments that arent that tough. She grades the tests very tough as well, sometimes unfairly. She is obsessed with geology and nice, but her grading is very questionable and to get an B+ or A is very difficult. Not recommended
She knows a lot so the class is really interesting. I thought that it was going to be easier than it was especially for only 2 credits. I didn't know much about geology and plate tectonics when i went into the class so it was challenging, make sure you do well on the tests and quizzes because there is only one assignment-its difficult
It was the hardest class and the tests are nothing like she says in class. She is an unfair, hard teacher and very boring to listen to. I would recommend not taking her.
She is a great professor. She explains everything very well and her lectures are pretty easy to follow. She makes it interesting. Her tests are a little hard, though.
Very in depth but also challenging. Knows material very well and teaches throughly. Very interesting class.
Lori is a very nice teacher and very enthusiastic about her work. She is always willing to help and is a good teacher as well. Her class is a challenge but once you get over the intimidation factor, it is kind of fun. Field trips are fun but labs are very long and boring. It is difficult to get an A but definitely not impossible.
Very easy class if you attend the lectures and have some geologic background. Might be hard for those having no previous knowledge in the geologic field. She knows the material. I highly recommend this professor.
hard exams, boring lectures, random pop quizzes...
awesome professor, knows A ALOT!! attendance is NOT mandatory, however she has 10 pop quizzes throughout sem., but u can drop ur lowest 2 scores. 3 exams-TOUGH! & 1 final project which is a worksheet front and back and u can work with partners...it's pretty hard too. Def. NOT an easy A!
Lori is a very nice person and she knows her stuff! Her tests are hard, but very willing to help. Very nice person.
Lori is a very good professor. She is definitely knowledgeable on the material and makes it easy to understand. Tests could be hard at times, just study for them and you will be fine. Great person and professor.
Very good teacher and nice body!
Great professor, she's really enthusiastic about the subject and tests are only about material you go over in class, there's 3 exams instead of a comprehensive final and you get to go on field trips in nice weather :)
Lori is a pretty good professor, you go on field trips and take notes. not too hard. There are three exams, the mult choice are HARD, see is she will take them off and make the exams all essay.
I didn't have any interest or background information in geology, so this class was extremely difficult. It's a lot to comprehend if you don't know the basics. Lori is very nice and cares a lot about what she is teaching, but the class is a lot of work.
New course @ UWEC about current energy sources and the future of energy. I found the course extremely interesting, Lori does a great job of hosting discussion labs in a way which allows many students to get involved. I wold recommend this course with Professor Snyder to everyone.
A lot of information, especially for a two credit class. Do not take if you do not have a geology background. The powerpoints are organized, but she does not always follow them.
She is awesome. So helpful and loves to inform you on her passion. Also very funny and will joke around with you. You do get called on in class though which is not fun.
She's a very helpful professor. Always help us with our assignment. She's also very knowledgeable in geology. But the only thing is that this class is not recommended for students who don't have basic knowledge about geology. Lastly, this course is quite hard to score
She is a very nice lady, always enthusiastic and good at lecturing. She expects a lot from her students, too much for a 2 credit course in my opinion. If you don't have a solid geologic background you will struggle with the course material. The tests are tricky for reasons I can't explain, and she is not clear on what one really needs to know.
nice lady, really knows a lot about geology and science in general, and good at explaining things in class but grading policies inconsistent and NEVER returns emails. says she is willing to help but hardly ever follows through. tough for a 100 level class but interesting subject matter.
For 2 credits, this class was a lot of work. I thought the class was a focus on the actual history of nat'l parks, such as when/who founded them, but we spent more time on plates and how each and every rock is made than anything else. Lori can be funny, but if she's in a bad mood you can tell. Exams are difficult, sometimes from wording.
Make sure you take iClickers seriously... Tests can be tricky but questions are typically straight from powerpoints so study! I would say it's a pretty easy class b/c there is only one homework assignment and you can work on it with a group. Study for a few minutes a day and you will get a guaranteed A!
What a useless class! I thought I was going to learn the history of US parks and monuments and it was just another geology class! Not much clarity and class time is pointless. She only makes iClickers so kids come to class. I guess it was nice not ever having to worry about the class but 3X a semester?
A lot work for 2 credits. Ended up getting my first C. I clickers quizzes for this course are silly; should be used to evaluate what you learned so far, not to actually be graded. Asked for help once that wasn't actually helpful at all. Didn't like how she presented powerpoints. Tests are tricky and study guide unclear.
There are hardly any assignments but the exams are really hard. She is a really tough grader, but she is super nice and is willing to help with anything and answer and question. I recommend having a background knowledge in the environment before taking this class. It's tough, but enjoyable.
I really enjoyed this class! The field trips were wonderful diversions from a classroom setting and her passion for geology was reflected in her teaching. The exams were tough... I always felt like you need to remember EVERY little sentence she said in lecture, but the content was interesting so it wasn't hard to listen. Labs OK. Study!!!
She is a great prof to have to fulfill the science generals. She is really passionate about what she teaches and that, in turn, makes you want to learn more about it. She is great!
The class was good to take to fulfill Science generals, but you definitely need background in Geology to do well in class. Her office hours are 2 days a week in the morning and was hardly ever there. One time I waited an hour and half for her to show up and she never did!!
The class is interesting if you likes rocks. I hated this stuff personally. Otherwise its not too bad
Don't take this class online. She does not explain anything clearly. You practically teach yourself. A LOT of assignments. Gives ridiculous math problems not found in book and not taught at all. Hard grader. Have prior knowledge of energy or this class will be very difficult for a 100 level.
I absolutely loved this class. Lori does an excellent job of thoroughly explaining concepts and related material. She's more than willing to help and is an excellent professor overall.
The quizzes and tests can sometimes be tricky but the information you need comes right off her slides so they weren't too bad. Overall not a bad class and would take her again.
This class is super easy if you have taken Oceanography first and it wouldn't be terribly difficult if you haven't. Sometimes she explains difficult information a little too fast but most of the information is on the slides. Review notes before exams and you should be good. She also is very excited about her topic which makes even an 8am class fun.
This class is horrible! she is the hardest grader ever, and i think she enjoys trying to trick people! Seriously does not tell you what she wants, I got a D on the only project and I usually get As on everything. Class is way to hard for 2 credits. She is a joke
I took this class during the summer online. Her assignments were very lengthy and it was very hard to understand what she wanted you to do. she also had these "quizzes" that had 35-40 questions that took 75 mins that were worth 100 points. I absolutely hated this class. Don't take her ONLINE!
She grades tests and exams like i was going to study rocks and rivers for the rest of my life and need to know every detail. Had her favorite students in class which were Geology majors, and expected everyone to be up to par with them. Just way to high standards for a 100 level class. Avoid at all costs.
She's a nice person but this class destroys your soul and spirit. I spent literally all day on this class for the three weeks trying to keep up. There is discussion questions, assignments, tests, and a final paper that comes out of nowhere to kick your butt even more. I salute all future students who get through this class with their sanity.
Extremely unclear; professor did not finish the syllabus until the last week of class! Her tests were comprised of information that was not clearly covered during class, and her powerpoints were often extremely unclear and full of random information. If you are a serious student, do NOT take this class. You will be very frusterated.
She's a good prof and knows what she's talking about. She lets you be on your phone or laptop a lot, but I would pay attention to her lectures. You have to go to class to get points or your grade WILL drop. Tests and quizzes and few homework assignments are pretty easy. If you miss 5 class periods you fail.
Do not take this class! Not helpful and super boring.
I respected Lori as a person, and it is very obvious she knows a lot about geology. However, she was a VERY tough grader, making the class almost impossible to receive an A. I had fun on her field trips, but the lectures were boring and almost pointless.
I didn't think this class was hard at all. There's not really any homework and for the exams she gives a study guide that says exactly what was on the test. Lectures weren't super interesting, but she uses clickers for points/attendance so you have to show up. Definitely would take her again.
Lori is super passionate about the subject and she is hilarious. I enjoyed going to lecture everyday but unfortunately, we had multiple D2L assignment that didn't make any sense, and we were tested on things she didn't cover, she just assumed we knew. She does let you take partner tests though, so if you actually do the study guides you can to well
She treats us all like we are geology majors and expects us to know answers to every question she asks. Lectures are unclear, scattered, and unorganized. She is also easily the least helpful professor I have yet to encounter, never responding to emails, and dancing around the answer when I ask her questions. Don't waste your time with this class.
Her lectures are pointless she goes off the PowerPoints which say nothing and does not expand very far. You have to do a lot of outside teaching to your self if you want to try and understand things, but you still won't and still perform poorly on her tests. She is passionate about geology, but she is defiantly not meant to be teacher.
Dr. Snyder is a nice lady, a brilliant geologist, but a poor educator. She seems to forget that we are not geologists and holds too high of expectations for our class. Long lectures, tough homework, and very little purpose. My biggest critique is her difficult grading. It is very unnecessary and makes it impossible to do well.
Lori is a pretty cool prof, but her class is tough. This class had field trips every week when the weather was nice, which was fun. Labs can be hard and the tests are very tough and she is a tough grader. However, I did not put as much time as I should have into it and still was able to pass the class. Very helpful though and wants you to pass!
Snyder is a great teacher, really passionate about what she teaches and you can definitely see that which made the class a little less boring. However, there are lots of quizzes and iclicker questions every class which takes attendance. She does just read off of a powerpoint the whole lecture but she puts it out on D2L for you to look back on.
Lori is a very passionate teacher. She loves what she teaches and she is very good at relaying information to students in a productive way. I have learned a lot from her, and she is hands down my favorite professor so far. She is brilliant and knows her material inside and out. Very few questions she cannot answer for you. Strongly reccomend
She is very passionate about her work. If you ask questions during the lab and actually try to understand the material this class won't be too hard.
Awesome professor! Makes class enjoyable and she is very passionate about the subject which makes it even more fun to learn!
I thought Lori was a great professor! If you're looking for an easy GE science credit, this is a good one! Not a huge work load just a few online assignments and quizzes throughout the semester but they aren't hard! Go to class, take notes, read them over for the test and you should do well!
Despite teaching a large class, she's engaging and funny! You learn a ton from her and even if geology doesn't interest you, it will if Lori is your teacher! I can't wait to take another class with her, I highly recommend!
This class was incredibly interesting! She makes the topic so fun and class time goes by so fast. She is a tough grader and you have to go to class everyday for the iClicker questions.
Pretty easy professor and doesn't give too many tests or homework assignments. If you attend class mostly every day and pay attention to what she says you should be fine.
Lori is a tough grader no matter what class you take with her but she is so passionate in what she teaches. She makes rocks seem really interesting and she is always open to help! She has really cool stories to tell and has a lot of experience. This is my 2nd class I took from her and absolutely love her. Might come across as mean but she's great
She is extremely passionate about geology and it made listening lectures actually interesting. If you pay attention during the lectures and take some notes you should easily be able to pass this class. Tests are multiple choice and the study guides make prepping easier. Take this class if you want an easy science credit.
Lori is passionate but treats her students as if they already know the material. Half of the notes won't help you with the assignments or tests; therefore, you'll find yourself searching for the answers online. If you're planning on taking this course as a GE, DON'T! Professors should stay true to their course level. Waste of time and money.
Easy. Tests you get a partner for. Quizzes can be a little hard, but they're online and if you took notes in lecture it's easy to get a B and possible to get an A
Tests are tough and quizzes are impossible to get a good grade on. Can't even see what you did wrong.
GEOL 201 is the only two credit GE-II available at UWEC, so this is a "must take" for many students. The course has too much work for a two credit class. Many of the iClicker and online quiz questions require deep-digging -- the answers are not always at the surface of the PowerPoints. A gen like this should not require much, but it does at times.
From what I remember she's not bad at all. Very interesting and had timed iClicker questions in class. I would recommend this class
Very nice professor and tells exactly what is on the tests
Lori is wonderful! She is passionate and makes lectures interesting. She is a tough grader though, but this is only because she holds everyone to very high standards. If you need any clarification on a topic, she will gladly help you. Exams are relatively easy, but you will not pass if you don't participate in lectures or assignments.
Lori is one of my favorite profs this semester. She really cares about the subject and has been to the natl parks. Easy class if you go to class. Group tests with study guide available. She uses Iclicker questions everyday but gives you three absents before taking away points. Great class, great prof, would take again.
I loved this class! She is a great lecturer, and if you go to class it should be an easy A. Tests are taken by yourself, and then with a group, and the scores are a weighted average. There are clicker questions, but if you get it wrong it still counts for 0.8/1. The quizzes and projects don't take very long and she is happy to answer any questions.
I liked Lori a lot. She is very knowledgeable on geology and can answer almost any question. Her lectures can be boring sometimes, but all of her powerpoints are on D2L so it isn't hard to reference them. Exams are easy and there is no cumulative final. Overall, I would take Lori again.
GEOL201 was relatively enjoyable. Lori is very passionate and knowledgeable, but it is difficult to know what she expects of you. Online quizzes were difficult, it seemed there were always two correct answers. If you like the outdoors and know something about geology or National Parks, you will enjoy this class.
Lectures are so fun to listen to, however, she is quit possibly the hardest grading professor I've had in college. She definitely downplays her assignments, quizzes, and tests. Her questions are very specific, don't take notes from the power points in class as those are online, instead what she says after each slide, the extra info.
The first month was just general geology knowledge, which was kinda boring and tougher, but once we got to the parks, it was super interesting and fun to learn. Tests are taken twice: once on your own and once collaborative, which makes it much easier to get a good grade. I would definitely recommend taking this class.
At first, I was not excited about this class but it turned out to be my FAVORITE class of the semester. Lori was very approachable and passionate about this class and her students. My class used a clicker every day which counts attendance so show up. It is helpful to print out the powerpoints in note-taking format before class to take notes.
Lori is a great professor. She is really into what she does, so her lectures are actually interesting and enjoyable. Her grading is a little tough but not too bad.
Lori was so fun to listen to! She has amazing stories and is so energetic I honestly wanted to become a professor after I was done listening to her lectures! The tests are great as they are half on-your-own and half group tests, and you get easy points for paying attention and answering iClicker questions!!
Would recommend taking 115 or 110 before hand because I thought it made the class a lot easier to understand. Snyder has great lectures that make concepts easy to understand and has great stories. The quizzes are a little difficult, but are open book and note online. Assignments and exams are relatively easy. Would definitely recommend!
Lori is fantastic! Very easy to pass this class with at least a B. Everything you are tested on is covered in the notes, and she provides a study guide. A very easy class to satisfy your Lab requirement.
I took Lori because the reviews on here are really good. worst decision of my college career. If you are not a geology major or don't understand geology well, DONT take her! I took this class as an elective and I will be lucky to get a C. The tests are so hard, and attendance is mandatory for the 3-hour field trips. Seriously she uses the 3 hours.
Lori is nice but assumes a lot of background knowledge. Her tests and online quizzes are way harder than the iClicker questions so you feel confident until you have to take a test or quiz.
Very nice professor. Is very enthusiastic about course material.
Would highly suggest not taking this to cover a LE requirement. 3 hour labs are very long and she does not cut them short. Field trips are fun, but the material is very challenging. Attendance is mandatory and her grading is very strict as well. Would not recommend taking!!
Honestly its way too much work for a two credit course theres probably eaiser options out there for K1. Exams are based off of 20+ pages of notes its just too much so its hard to even get an A. Theres quizzes, iclicker points, homework assignments, and intense exams in this course its just too much. Even with intense studying its hard to get an A
If you're looking for a class with relatively no homework and easy tests all based on notes from class, take this one. We have a homework assignment or a quiz once every few weeks and they only take like 20 minuets. Tests are half your own work and then you take a group test. She drops your lowest assignment and quiz score. Super nice professor.
Lectures on slides that are posted on Canvas. I recommend following along on a laptop because she can go fast at times. A few quizzes, assignments, and tests throughout the semester but spread far enough apart you won't have to stress about them. I've never looked at my textbook so don't even bother with it. Would take again, she's very passionate
Super rude and unable to help.
Overall good professor. She scares me a little just because she's very straight forward, but maybe it's just me. The exams were okay. Definitely study though. Also you use an iClicker for attendance/participation that's graded. She's also strict on policy. To give you an idea, I had a 92.75% and she wouldn't round to an A. I understand, but ouch.
I loved Lori! She was an awesome professor and she made it really fun. If you need to get a lab out of the way I would definitely take this class. If you study the material and ask her questions during the lab you will do good in this class.
Lori is a good professor. She is kind and has lots of experience. Her attendance policy is very strict. The class ended up being more difficult than I expected and are definitely not all straight from the powerpoints. Every test you take by yourself and then again with a group and the score is averaged out. Online quizzes are easy. Not a bad class.
Awfullll. I went in for help and she sent me home because I was unprepared. For what? I was in there with a list of questions? Said I didnt know the material well enough but thats why I was asking?? Sort of condescending as well
She was unaccommodating when it came to COVID, required weekly field trips and if they were missed you missed important topics that were on exams. A HEAVILY graded lab exam that is very difficult even when you generally know the content. She grades tough and in weird decimals, doesnt give any explanation. But is very passionate about the subject!
Lori is a nice person but expects far too much out of her students for 200 and 100 level classes. When I took this class in the fall of 2020, our entire grade was based on lecture quizzes and exams. She often changes the wording of questions that would be easily found in the lecture or book, making it nearly impossible to decode it.
Professor Snyder was not helpful at all during this course. Our grade was only based on quizzes and a few assignments. The quizzes and assignments were extremely difficult. Whenever a student would email her to try to get clarity, she was not helpful and suggested to just study more. Her lectures are long and boring. Do not take this class.
Quizzes and assignments were way too difficult. Nearly the entire class was not preforming well on assignments and quizzes.
If you're looking for an easy, straight-forward lecture credit for a gen-ed; keep looking. It's not here. This professor is a nice person outside of teaching but HARSH on grading. Also, there's hardly any info in lectures. I had a 4.0 that dropped solely from this class and I'm barely pulling a C-. Oh, and that's ABOVE the class average. Stay away.
Not a bad class, professor Snyder did her best to keep the class as in person as possible which definitely helped. We were able to go on field trips and I genuinely learned things in this class.
Lori makes geology fun! Honestly wasn't too stoked at first, but learning about national parks is interesting. There are no high stake assignments in the class--only a homework assignment and quiz every other week. She takes longer to grade than most and there are a lot of notes. Her quizzes aren't the easiest either but a solid gen ed class!
This professor is really passionate about what she teaches so right away that makes her very good. She is flexible and really helpful. The assignments are super spaced out so there is more than enough time to get them done. They are not difficult either, just watching videos and listening for the answers. It is an easy A class.
Lori is unorganized, unrealistic, and she lacks basic computer skills. She did not plan the semester, "scheduling as she went". This meant more HW at the end than all my other classes combined. We had a group project in an entirely online class. She also used PBS Kids as a homework resource, while grading harsh. Don't take her if you don't have to.
She goes through the notes faster than usain bolt, but she does clearly know her stuff. She wants her students to pass and tells you exactly whats going to be on the test. But i know a few people got frustrated toward the end of the semester when we had to catch up and do the notes really fast. The field trips were very cool though, best part.
She chose to do this class Asynchronous. This means all notes outside of class, and class isn't mandatory. I did not like this model as it was a lot of work outside of class, but if you learn well online then I recommend this class for you. She is very understanding and a good professor.
All in person lectures are optional. You only have to attend the exams. You also get the option to collaborate with others on test day, and the tests arent too difficult. If you decide to attend the in person lectures, you still need to watch her online lecture. We are usually doing hands on activities. Shes organized and knows her stuff!
