Great! If you needed help with anything, she was there with a smile.i
Very sweet, intelligent, and kind- hearted!
Helpful, very intelligent! Greta personality
Boring as @#&$, but easy make it through lecturs and you'll get an A
dont ever go to class...study her online notes night before test and get an A
shes real cool...gives you the notes you neeed to study
lots of extra credit and notes are online! no attendance
Class is semi-boring if you have a complex mind that needs continuous stimulation. Good thing is, no need to come to class. Everything is online, could study a total of 4 hours for entire semester and make an A. She's very nice aswell.
easy class, study the online practice tests.
She is an excellent professor. Very smart and helpful! She is truly one of the department's finest! I highly suggest taking her classes!
great prof really cares about students and their grades. have her now would def take her again
Boring, boring, boring. But an easy teacher. No need to go to class, she puts info on the web. Easy!!
wonderful teacher-cares about students and only tries to make life easier not more difficult than it already is. Doesnt try to trick you,and very nice.
shes great shes so cute always smiling dont buy the book but study your people lots of extra credit
boring class, but not hard. extra credit
VERY NICE AND HELPFUL; PUTS POWER POINT ON INTERNET TO GET NOTES FROM CLASS; TEST ARE EASY IF YOU STUDY AND LEARN ALL THE PEOPLE!
Not the most fun class, but easy. Very willing to help. Extra Credit Offered!!
I love this teacher!!! Always smiling, enjoyed her class a lot. Very Helpful and understanding. I would take any class that she is offering.
A great teacher. . .likes to have other people come and teach. Watch out because that material will be on the test.
Very easy for His/Sys a little harder for Cog Psyc
I've had her for 3 classes..she's wonderful! Doesn't talk down to students like some professors do. She's always willing to help her students succeed!
A very knowledgeable professor and kind and helpful if you are in need. Power Point lecture notes on her website and study helps too. Delivery is not exciting. She's a little 60's Hippie type but a great person. Good Prof.
She's so sweet and cute - smiles all the time. Class not difficult just be sure to know your people! Offers extra credit . . . I would certainly take her again.
boring class..b/c info is online (power point) but definately an easy A if u read notes online and portions of book...offers extra credit!!!!
She is the best of the best. Anything you need she is there. All notes online so if you dont like going to class then don't. She also goes out of town so class is cancelled more often than most classes. She is very enthusiastic and loves her class and students
I really enjoyed her class. She is very helpful and the notes are online. Go to class and study and you will do great. She is very nice and easy to talk with. I would definitely take her again.
Great professor, very accomedating if you miss class, or are late, gives plenty of extra credit!
most boring class ever!
Great teacher! If you don't feel like going to class, then you don't have to. But, she is very interested in the history of psychology, so its awesome to listen to her talk about it! I would highly recommend her, tests are easy if you study, mostly just knowing people and what they did! Tons of extra credit! I would take her again, and I am.
I had Dr. Van for several classes and she always made the subject matter interesting.
I loved Dr. VanWallendael. I had her for this class and Human Cog, she puts her notes online and has an easy format for test (fill in the blank and MC). If you miss a test she does not ask for excuses she just wants to know when you want to make it up....Escellent!!
Very Interesting class & she's very helpful!!! You get to watch cool movies & the test's are not very hard! TAKE HER!
Extremely Organized...PowerPoints on the web, with practice tests and extra credit. All the practice test questions are on the actual exam...go to class and read the book<--it's interesting!
Can be a hard class...you gotta study!!!
Very sweet lady. Very knowledgeable about the subject material. Class can be hard when it comes to the tests. If you study very well before the test, you should be able to make a high B or an A. Before each test, she gives you the chance to do three extra credit projects worth 6 points added onto the test. Interesting class topics! Not bad!
easiest teacher ever, everything is online, dont buy the book, you only use it for some extra credit, study notes online and know the answers to the practice exam, been to class 4 times all semester and i have a 93
she is the most helpfull and nicest teacher have ever taken class with. I definatley recomend her,SHE IS REALLY COOL
Extremely nice teacher, and also very easy. Her tests come directly from her powerpoints which she posts online, so you really dont need to attend class. She also gives lots of extra credit.
Pretty easy. She lectures from ppts which are available online, so attendance is not mandatory. Don't buy the book, I never touched it and made an A. No papers or projects, but extra credit is available. Class can be a little boring sometimes, but at least she's passionate about the topic. Also you get to watch movies in class!
Only went to class 3-4 times. Powerpoint slides are online and she directly teaches off of them. Study the powerpoint slides with the chapters in the book and you will do good on the exams. Comprehensive final!!!
BEST teacher in the Psychology Department. She is very clear on what is expected, test come straight from notes and attendance and the book is not required. I will definitely be taken more of her classes.
Awesome professor! Her style of teaching is so easy to understand. Made A's on all of her tests, but I did come to all the classes (b/c it was so interesting!). Looking forward to taking another class with her next semester! (Don't buy the books...you won't need them to make an A!)
LOVE Dr. Van Wallendael! She really is THE BEST professor in the Psych department at UNCC. She made the history of Psych so interesting, and I really enjoyed coming to class. This was the 2nd time I had her! She posts her lectures on moodle, but coming to class really gives you that A+. Optional paper to make an A in the class, but so easy.
Her lectures are really boring, but her classes are easy. She give online exams. Do not but MyPsychLab and the book together, just get the MyPsychLab with the internet book with it. BC if you have the packet, it has all of it, and it's a waste of money. I made an A in her class though. It's best to come to class if you're lazy to study.
terrible teacher. if you don't read you wont do well. she never answers emails. i don't recommend her class to anyone.
Online Tests!
Funny how comments say "if you don't like to read..don't take the class". Duh! This is college! You have to read. Read the textbook, follow the notes, practise the exams and you will get an A.
BEST psyc teacher. All tests are online, in addition to all notes. Coming to class is not mandatory at all. All questions come from powerpoints online, and some questions came from reading the book. Final exam was super easy too. Easy B if you don't try, easy A if you put a little effort into it
Great professor! Really cares about her students and will work with you to get the grade you want. Gives a ton of extra credit for each test so do the extra credit. I would definitely recommend her!!
It's a 200+ lecture course so PAY ATTENTION. Facebook Use = B or <. She is also a very strict teacher, she doesn't allow any type of slack nor lenience. I would recommend reading the book, her tests are VERY detail orientated. Oh and if you don't feel like coming to class don't worry, she basically reads from the slides. But she is nice!
THE MOST BORING CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN! She read the powerpoints for the lecture. Online exams... I got a B in the class with minimal effort. BORING!
She has a good way of explaining things in real life examples. We watched a lot of interesting video clips, DO RESEARCH PARTICIPATION requirements Early on, and complete all MYPSYCHLAB assignments to get your best grade. Overall, the class was interesting, not too hard, and I would recommend this teacher to anyone taking psych courses at UNCC.
This professor is very easy but she is boring. She reads off of slides and she goes into way too much detail with simple subjects. However, her class is incredibly easy. The first 3 exams are on-line and the final is cumulative and in class. Overall, come to class take notes and you will be just fine.
Oh my, with 300+ students it is really hard to remember anything she says. I really found this class difficult as pretty much she did not cover enough of the book, which you are required to read. I got a C+ and that was my worst grade. Highly advised you take the study sessions by her graduate assistant.
Remember the online due dates for 50% online. I forgot ONCE &lost 40 points. She doesn't cover enough of the book, &each chapter is around 80 pages so it's hard to motivate yourself to read the boring thing. Memorize all the statistical useless info that will be on the tests. It's really a history class b/c there's nothing science about it.
She will make you work to earn an A but its all worth it. She is amazing. I learned a lot.
I really liked Van Wallendael at first, but I've sent her a couple of emails asking questions and she doesn't seem like she likes helping. I find her lectures really interesting, but not very useful when it comes to the tests. Lectures and tests don't correspond.
Had a hard time with this one. Kept up with the homework - if you do that, the readings, take very good notes and don't miss deadlines for online work, you'll be set. I missed one and it cost me a letter grade (ONE POINT). My only B in college = this class! Just work hard!
I love Professor Van Wallendael! I had her for Psych 1101 and a few other psych classes and she was always helpful. She tries her best to make sure you understand. She'll always answer questions if you ask her. Her tests are generally really easy especially since she gives you so many practice tests to look at! HIGHLY recommend!
Her hybrid class is very time consuming. If you keep up with every chapter's readings and quizzes you should do fine. She is not very helpful when it comes to online work. If you have difficulties, sorry, your loss. Make sure your computer is reliable.
She is obviously knowledgable about her field, having worked in it more than just being a professor. Tests are reasonable and well announced - assignments, not so much. make sure you keep up with the online assignments because she won't remind you and won't let you make them up.
boring class. lectures are kind of pointless (besides the clicker quizzes) since everything she teaches is right out the textbook, which you're tested online for. chapter quizzes and assignments are easy peezy, exams are harder since you have less time and more questions. make sure to have reliable wifi/internet.
This class was okay, there's a lot of material covered. The class I took was 50% online so we met once a week, and there were online assignments every week. The work wasn't hard and helps you make a better grade. The final is hard, but if you do all the work its an easy B. You have a clicker quiz every class so attendance is kind of mandatory.
She is not helpful. I do not recommend her. Very time consuming. Pick another professor.
I'm taking online Research Methods right now and it's the worst class I've ever taken. Tests are 50 questions in 50 minutes and at least half have a paragraph to read. She only covers the bare minimum and the tests are a lot harder to understand than just definitions. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND
Tough, but fair. Great job with communication and really tries to help.
50 questions in 50 minutes for tests and final exam. Many of the "questions" have paragraphs to read first. Class was taught using 5-10 "slides" with a voice recording giving bad descriptions of the information. Would not recommend this to anyone. More confused now than at the beginning of class.
She's a great professor, but the tests are nearly impossible. They are extremely difficult and if you miss ONE day of class, you won't do well on the test. The notes are crucial for success in the course and each day you will have about 10 pages of notes (that's typed, double spaced, 12 font in times new romans) on a computer. Awesome class though!
This class was 50% online. The lectures basically go over the reading assigned each week. Clicker questions every class so you might as well go. Chapter exam for each chapter and 3 multi media assignments/quizzes each week online. Tests cover way too much material in my opinion. She's not a great teacher and is kind of rude, but could be worse
50% Online Class lectures once a week + MyPsychLab. Dr VanWallendael is clear about expectations. Attendance important due to clicker quizzes. Keep up w/reading, PsychLab exams & media assignments. Unit tests rough - timed & on 4-5 chapters. Really liked Dr VW, she helps you try to make a good grade. Take time to do extra credit assignments!
Amazing teacher. Guest speakers occasionally.
Dr. Van Wallendael is a great professor. Didnt know what to expect but it was an interesting class. 50% online and lecture once a week with 5 ques clicker quiz. Online work isnt hard but time consuming to keep up with. Offers extra cred which is great. Recommend class.
I took this class half online so I only had the lecture hall once a week. It was okay, but if you are not disciplined and organized you will fall behind. LOTS of reading and there is no way to get around it. Chapter exam every week and 3 big exams covering multiple chapters which are very hard if you do not study.
I had the hybrid class which was mainly online and we only met once a week. I liked this class and she taught it very well. I never read the book, only used it to find answers to the tests, and the video quizzes were super easy. I'd recommend it for anyone looking for an easy GenEd or an easy A. Attendance is mandatory due to clicker questions.
Read your syllabus!!! She's a very "by the book" type of lady!
I took the half-online version. The online assignments were very easy. The tests were pretty easy if you reviewed the assignments beforehand. Attendance was required in order to participate in clicker quizzes. Ultimately, it's a very easy class, but because of the large size, she is not lenient with grades. I missed an A by a third of a point.
Literally the worst teacher I have had. She does not give you any slack. There is no time to think on tests or quizzes. She only gives you one minute per question. Her videos are vague, and she gives you almost nothing to study on. Don't take her unless you religiously study , and even then it ma be hard.
This professor would be so much better if she didn't talk about things unrelated to the class material. She talked about sensitive topics that ended in a class uproar and it was so unprofessional. While I agree that you should let students express opinions and ideas, there should be some limit to what students are allowed to say.
Awesome personality! But in terms of lecture, moves super quick through the power points and does not post them so if you miss something you are at a disadvantage for the test. Loves videos that may or may not load for you but still expected to have a quiz on them. She offers a lot of extra credit which is the only pro I can offer after taking her.
Loved the class but Dr. Wallendael not so much. She goes too fast through the notes, refuses to post them. Doesn't give you enough time to take her tests and barely replies to emails in a timely manner. Also, if you don't have the same view points as her, prepare to be offended because she doesn't come off as neural when discussing certain topics
Dr. Van Wallendael is amazing & I respect her so much. Not only is she extremely intelligent, but she is caring & enthusiastic about the material. Forensic Psych was awesome with her. I will never forget that class & all the things we learned. We watched some really cool movies too! Plus she gives extra credit. I am sad that her class is over :(
This class was my least favorite. First of all you have to spend like $300 on her required material like the Online Textbook, and the clicker. The work is pretty easy, but there is a lot. The clicker questions you do in class for a grade are so hard, and over half the class misses them.
I took her special topics class in psychology and loved it! She is very friendly and provides and interesting look at forensic psychology.
The bulk of the work is online and you can easily find the answers, not a hard class and an Easy A. She is blunt and doesn't have time to deal with every single student.
This is a hybrid class so outside of the one class a week theres a lot of work reading the chapter and taking notes and doing the assignments. Overall fairly easy if you do all of the assignments on time. Lectures cover everything important, but she only lets you miss 2 classes. Wants you to do well and the final isn't that hard if you study.
Her course is reading heavy, you have chapter work due every week. The class isnt bad itself just the amount of work can be intense. Taking notes is extremely beneficial. The final exam is a brief overview about what you did in the class, not too much detail.
She made us buy a webcam app so people can watch us take our online test. You also have to use a lockdown browser. She made us buy way too many things for this class.
Read every inch of the online book. Lectures are dreadful and hard to pay attention to. Lots of poll everywhere so show up to class
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. Attendance is measured by poll everywhere questions even though we are in a class of 300 people. Test are online but with lock down browser so you are literally recorded taking the test.
Taking RM1 online this summer. So far her TA Sarah is grading assignments & in my opinion she grades low! I've never been a huge fan of TA's, I feel most think they have something to prove by being heavy on criticism. Beyond this the class isn't terrible, but unless you want to spend 30 hrs a week for one summer course, take it during Fall/Spring!
Forensic Psychology online was a tough course. There is a quiz for each chapter which most questions are from lectures. There are five unit exams where none of the information is gone over in the course. She also makes you buy a packback subscription which is used for discussions (pointless canvas has discussions). Video lectures are avg. 1.5 hours
I took this course over the summer and mind you , we only have 5 weeks. She literally squeezed what we would do in a 16 week period to 5. We had three quizzes , an exam , and a packback assignment due every week along with her 1 to 2 hour lectures. It made it nearly imposible to learn and complete assignments.
In my opinion she lectures backwards, making the class read and take a quiz on a topic before coming to class to learn about the same said topic that we already took a quiz on. Everything is Screen and video recorded, and has very hard exams and quizzes. A lot of the class would get Ds on exams, but she never made them easier. Would not recommend.
Attendance is not mandatory. All quizzes and tests are online, and no class days of the test. She teaches material well, and lectures are power point slides talking about the current chapter. Quizzes are ten questions, tests 50. No attendance is taken. For tests and quizzes, make sure to read the chapter, all answers to work are from there.
Dr. Van Wallendael was a very nice professor. She definitely is tight with extra credit, so don't come in expecting it. Weekly reading of fairly long and detailed chapters. She did allow us to use our notes on the quizzes but beware of the hard tests. Read every in of textbook and youlle be fine.A lot of people dropped bc they couldn't hang with it
At best her teaching methods were redundant. We were made to read the chapter on our own, take a quiz on the chapter and then come to class to hear a lecture on the chapter. At that point it felt as if I was teaching myself and would have been better off taking the course online. Her grading system is extremely confusing and diluted as well.
Professor Lori is a cool teacher. She rather soothing when she speaks which made me fall asleep first 2 weeks. Other than that she talks the majority of the class, gets us to participate in groups and give out homework at a decent pace. I took her online class which was too much work and reading. Book require but for extra info.
She stuck to a schedule. Its an easy A if you actually do your work on time. She gives room for mistakes. Great online course.
At first, the amount of assignments and regulations does seem overwhelming. However, if you stick to the schedule she prescribes you with you will definitely pass easily. She gives you plenty of resources so that you won't have difficulty learning the material and there are enough assignments that doing bad on one exam won't tank your grade.
The teacher is so hard!! She uses the lockdown browser for the online class. If you read the textbook, you'll be fine for the quizzes, but the exams are so hard! This is for forensic psychology. Quizzes every other day and six tests.
If you can take her for this class, please do so. She was very well organized and her canvas page was very easy to use. There was a lot of assignments but they were pretty simple. For example, one of the assignments all you had to do was submit a photo. She breaks the inquiry project down into steps which helped a lot! Awesome professor.
Dr. Wallendael is a witch. I would not take this class with her as my teacher because I had covered up the webcam by accident while taking the syllabus quiz. She sent an email with a threat regarding that I will be reported for an academic integrity violation and will receive a non-droppable score of zero on the exam in question.
She assigns overwhelming amounts of work, but you get used to it fast. If you don't like to take tests/quizzes with lockdown browser + webcam then don't take her because she even makes you take a SYLLABUS quiz with it. If you don't read the textbook you won't pass the tests. She drops a couple of low grades to help you though! Very kind professor!
This lady is sooooooo rude. She does not care about her students at all. I would never take a class with her again!!! BEWARE
Really wanted to like this teacher but made it difficult to understand the material. The tests were very hard and the questions were even more confusing. I feel as if she doesn't want anyone to pass. She made this class very unattractive and made me feel unsmart almost all the time. Her workbooks are IMPOSSIBLE, good luck getting over 50%.
Beware. Just dont take her unless you have to. Trust me!
Wallendael was an okay professor in my opinion. There is a lot of reading in this course. The reading was okay. The exams were pretty difficult. Some questions were worded very confusing which made it even harder. She does not do reviews to at least know what will be on the exams. She does respond quickly to emails and tries her best to help.
Make sure to read chapters bc the tests and quizzes cover more than what is provided in the lecture videos. Four exams and a final. Make sure to take notes on the chapter! Shes not the friendliest but if that doesnt bother you then you should be okay.
Prof. Van Wallendael is a very good teacher. She knows what she's talking about and explains things very well in her pre-recorded lectures. Attendance wasn't taken but watch lectures each week and take the quizzes for them or you will not pass. Read the textbook as well, it isn't too hard. Make sure to always do packback!!!
Not the worst class in the world, but tests are very difficult. No study guides for test so be aware. Would not recommend taking this class unless you're prepared to read and study.
I know a lot of people don't really like her but I think she was great & I honestly loved this class. The tests are relatively easy if you do all the work and watch her lecture videos (although sometimes they were terrible quality so that sucked). She provided good "extra help" videos and (small) extra credit opportunities throughout the semester.
Her classes are so difficult!! Always tons of reading to do & her tests are nothing like the material learned. Find a different professor!
Lori was more worried about "cheating" in the GroupMe than how her students did on the test. She gave so many assignments it was hard to keep up. When the class averaged a 60% testing AVERAGE, she sent out an email blaming us and said we needed to study better. Hello? Maybe you need to actually teach better.
shes amazing! definitely have to study for this class but everything is given to you and she communicates very well via email. the class is easy if you study and get used to the format of the course itself. super organized and tests were easy if you used all the study material given. everything is weighed in all fairness as well. love the course!
I've had two classes with this prof, both online. In both classes, every quiz/test was proctored through respondus lockdown browser, which is quite annoying. Still, the material on the quizzes and tests are extremely predictable, as long as you read the textbook you won't slightly struggle. As well, you get 3 tries each quiz, so very forgiving.
Dr. Van Wallendael assigns a lot of homework and workbooks. There is also a lot of textbook reading required, 30-40 pages a week. If you take notes on the textbook, complete the homeworks and study your quiz attempts, you'll do fine on all the tests! A few grades are dropped at the end of the semester and she is easily accessible by email!
She is way too concerned about cheating and it is absolutely impossible to even attempt to cheat in her class. However, if you follow the chapters closely and put the necessary work in the class itself is not super difficult. The tests include a ton of super specific information from the text so it is very important to read the book.
She is way too concerned about cheating and it is absolutely impossible to even attempt to cheat in her class. . She also will not tell you the correct answers to anything you got wrong. The course moves quickly, so do NOT fall behind. The tests include a ton of super specific information from the text so it is very important to read the book
Very structured course with the same assignments due every week to help you learn the material. A simple tip for success: read the textbook and take notes! If you complete the assigned work and do some studying before exams, you will do just fine!
If theres one thing you need in this class, its structure. Th syllabus tells you everything you need to know. Read the textbook. She easy to approach and has office hours weekly. Shes also really open to helping explain something on quizzes/tests during those office hours. Dont fall behind in the class.
She clarifies what see expects of you, so there are no surprises. As long as you take the class seriously read the textbook, and watch her video lectures you shouldn't have a hard time in her class. She responds relatively fast to emails, and will try her best to answer your questions. Fair amount of assignments with the have the same due date
Overbearing online work, especially for the level of class that she's even teaching. Her assignments don't even let you practice much. Timed and recorded exams and quizzes on lockdown browser + webcam. Also don't expect her to respond to her emails.
Told us it's a live class, then switched it to "attendance-optional" last minute. This meant that she would use lecture time to give general college advice. Thus, WE HAD EXACTLY ZERO PSYCHOLOGY LECTURES IN AN "IN-PERSON" CLASS. All of the work was done entirely through the learning portal, with her barely doing anything.
The class was asynchronous, so basically all online. All modules are done through 'Macmillan learning'. It's a lot of work a week but it's a well-structured class. The exams are heavily weighted and use a lockdown browser so you can't cheat. If you're ok with a heavy workload, then this is the class for you.
I think this class was not too hard but just know that if you want to get an A in this class, you're going to have to be working for a good amount of time. The tests aren't hard, IF YOU STUDY. If you do not study, you will not do good. There is a quiz and a workbook assignment every week.
HEAVY HOMEWORK. WEEKLY QUIZZES THAT REQUIRES LOCKDOWN BROWSER + WEBCAM. THE LECTURE VIDEOS ARE TERRIBLE, DOESN'T TEACH ANYTHING THAT IS ON THE QUIZZES. WHEN ASKED WHAT TO STUDY FOR THE EXAMS, SHE REPLIES: "EVERYTHING." SHE PUSHES ALL THE HOMEWORK AND QUIZZES A DAY EARLY ON EXAM WEEKS, MAKING EXAM WEEK EVEN MORE STRESSFUL THAN IT ALREADY IS.
This professor was not readily available. The course was difficult, but as long as you read the textbook and do your weekly work, packback, and quiz, you should be able to get an A or B. Make sure to study!! Those tests are no joke.
No zoom meeting so if you want the most out of this class don't take it online. She gives no study guides for tests or quizzes & offers no help when struggling w/material. Gives voice over PowerPoint videos & extensive assignments after. Gives quizzes on each video & a test in each unit. Get ready to spend money on material. Gives no extra credit.
Uses lockdown browser for every assignment. Tons of book notes and online lecture videos. Quiz and test information is super meticulous. Requires so much work without a rewarding grade. Doesnt offer much help in the online class setting.
Wallendael is alright. If you took AP psych in high school then you're solid, entering this course with no background knowledge is going to be tough. She included random questions from lectures into heavily weighted unit exams which was super annoying. Easy class if you just do the work, but I would just recommend a different prof.
Everything was fully online and used respondus for EVERYTHING including quizzes and tests. Lots and lots of reading so if you fall behind you won't pass. The class is not meant to be easy to be prepared to spend lots of time working. If I could have a redo I would take more time note taking and studying because I would have done much better.
Dr. Wallendael is a very nice instructor. If you don't understand something in the material, she is very helpful. The canvas quizzes give you three chances to do better if you don't do well the first time. I would recommend having her as an instructor again.
I would prefer a different professor to teach PSYC Research Methods and is known as the best teacher for Research Methods. Dr. Wallendael is not a good professor and doesn't allow any feedback or have students ask for help in the course. I would recommend taking PSYC 2101 with a different instructor who teaches PSYC 2101 better.
This course on PSYC Research Methods is made easy by Dr. Wallendael. The course covers 14 chapters, but there are now 13 chapters since she skips chapter 9. I would recommend having her as my teacher again. Make sure you understand the main concepts in the textbook, study every day, and don't cheat. Ask for help when needed.
I don't feel that Lori is very tech-savvy. She should not be teaching online classes. She does not have many grades so if you miss one thing say goodbye to that A. She also does not give very good feedback when you receive a poor grade and does not respond to emails in a timely fashion.
Took Research Methods 1 for summer term . This class is fast paced and be top on things. The class is tough during the summer since assignment are due in a fast pace manner . Video lectures are helpful . Drops lowest quiz and test
I took research methods over the summer and while it was a LOT of work (an assignment due every day except saturdays) as long as you read the text, watch the lectures, and take good notes you should be good. I never made less than a C on all the tests and the assignments are easy/straight-forward!
Find another teacher, if you struggle taking tests you won't pass, and if you dislike incredibly particular answers to open ended problems move along. Shes not the best when it comes to relating to and helping students. Reached out a bunch of times and just got told to study more.
Weekly assignments and quizzes. Material is difficult but she explains it well. Quizzes are hard but you get 3 retakes. Exams are lockdown webcam. Prepare to read and study to do well in this course
Be prepared to read and get 0 feedback. If you get any feedback at all it is belittling you. This course is not that hard as long as you read. Just don't expect any help from her. The TA's also struggle to know what is right or wrong.
This course was straight forward, like others have said there is an inquisitive, workbook, and quiz due each week. If you carve enough time to learn the course material (study and taking notes!!!!) then you should do well in this course. Everything does get pushed up a day early for exams. Some TA's don't know what they're talking abt though.
I've taken 2 courses with her as of now, and both have been great. This class was asynchronous, but the provided recorded lectures are easy to follow. If you want to pass, you MUST read the textbook as the exam questions can be very specific. She's readily available outside of class, and makes the material very interesting.
There's nothing wrong with this professor, but the issue I have is the course set up. If you've never taken a psychology course before this, don't take this class. You'll meet once a week, and then you're on your own for the rest of the week. Test averages are always either a D or F, and lockdown browser with webcam is used.
The course is asynchronous so only in-person for one day, which is nice if you have time conflicts. Attendance isn't mandatory but might as well be with all the participation grades. Lectures are SO BORING. She will ramble and say a whole lot of nothing. If you have no prior knowledge you'll absolutely need to read your butt off. Exams are HARD.
Typical, boring lectures. LOTS of reading, but some are interesting. Exams are a little rough, but other grades make it up and she drops one exam grade. Not a bad class, wouldn't take it again though lol
I was feeling really intimidated by all the capstone courses offered due to being burnt out and overwhelmed as a senior, but I'm really glad I chose this course. Dr. Van Wallendael is such a cool, passionate, and caring professor. She's also very wonderful to work with if you have documented disabilities!
She is a good professor, however, the design of the intro psych courses is not for me. It is a hybrid setting so you basically have all of the professors who teach this class rather than just her. Meeting once per week + having additional lectures online. The tests were very hard. Enjoyed the prof. but not the class overall.
I joined this course a week and a half into the semester. Dr. Van has a no makeup or late work policy, no exceptions. I was not able to do the assignments that I wasn't even in the class for yet, giving me three 0's before I was even enrolled. My workbook (made by her) assignments took weeks at a time to be graded if they weren't graded by a TA.
AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS! Dr. Van Wallendael is not very helpful when it comes to asynchronous classes. There are 4 exams (3 tests and I final) and you have to do really well on them to do well in the class! do not take her. Make sure to study all three attempts from the practice quizzes because they will show up on the exam.
Dr. Wallendael is the best teacher for Research Methods!
van Wallendael was a horrible professor. Do not take her for your capstone course at UNCC. She does not provide study guides for tests or quizzes and will ask the most random question based off one sentence out of a 30-45 page chapter. She wants you to read her mind, the right answer is whatever she deems correct.
Over half of my grade was tests and the final. No effective study tips or a study guide was given. The questions focused on the most specific facts that you had to memorize. In order to do well, watch all the videos, read all the chapters, and use all the quiz attempts. One bad test grade means getting a bad overall grade.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. SHE WILL RUIN YOU LIFE. She does not answer emails in a timely fashion. Whatever she believes is right regardless of what you may have. SAVE yourself the stress and pick a different Professor if you can.
She simply designs her class for students to fail. I recommend you not to take her class. Whatever she says go regardless if she is wrong and there is nothing you can do about it.
Do not take this Professor. She wants her students to fail. If you are a student with an eidetic memory, she will question everything you do if you make a high score.
Do not take her class. She is not worth the stress. She wants all her students to fail which is why a lot of us left her class. Do not do it. Waste of money.
Terrible, unprofessional, spiteful, questionable integrity for minorities. Never take any of her classes.
If you are smart do not take this class. Meaning if you get things done way too early than what she expects. She will accuse you of cheating. Do not take this class
This is by far the WORST professor I have EVER had. This professor does not care about any of her students and sets her class up in a way for her students to FAIL. She is not helpful, her exams are extremely difficult, and this class is not worth the stress and anger you will feel throughout the entire semester. The class average for exams is a C.
DO NOT TAKE ANY OF HER CLASSES!!! PLEASE. I have taken two classes with this woman this semester and it made my life EXPONENTIALLY WORSE. She cares more about whether or not people are cheating than if she's a good professor. SO MANY QUIZZES AND SO MUCH READING. Stay away, I wish I had taken the poor reviews more seriously.
Dr. Van Wallendael is a pretty tough professor for Psych 1101 especially considering its just an intro gen ed. The tests are hard, but if you start studying a week or two in advance you will probably do okay. The lectures are generally unhelpful on the exam. I would take another professor for Psych 1101 if you can.
This class is A LOT of work. However I never watched the lecture videos and still did well in the class. I read each textbook chapter and took notes which got me through the semester. Each week, there's a textbook chapter, lecture vids, inquisitive, workbook, and small quiz (you have 3 attempts). Every quiz and test is lockdown browser with webcam.
I had hybrid online/in person class. I feel like I taught myself all the material before exams. Expect no less than 6 assignments a week- it's constant. Beware that ALL tests, even the syllabus quiz, are lockdown browser with webcam on. I did not attend many of the lectures, which were worth 10 points each, so I can't fully attest to her teaching.
Lori is very strict and does not accommodate. I recommend watching the lecture videos. Do not slack in this class. The workbook is not helpful. Study hard for the tests because they are heavy. Do not miss any assignments. If you are a slacker, do not take her; you will fail, and she will let you know it. Your success is not her priority. Goodluck.
Her lectures add nothing new to the book material, she doesn't round up, her test questions are filled with grammatical errors and multiple right answers (incredibly painful), she gives weirdly timed deadlines and often shames you for not doing well on exams when her exams are barely readable (bad for ppl dyslexic or with English as a 2nd lang).
Be prepared to spend a MINIMUM of 1 hour per day in this class. It is very intensive, even in a 16-week course. In the online setting, she is no-nonsense and jaded. Don't expect help or mercy. She formats her exams so that two answers are correct, but only one is correct for HER. If its your last option, get ready to grind. van wallowinhell indeed
Her quizzes and tests are very confusing. She cares more about webcam "violations".
Professor van Wallendael is a tough but caring person. Her exams are hard, so they require a lot of studying. She gives interesting lectures and wants to help her students succeed. She has strict policies but only to be fair to every student. I enjoyed her class despite the difficulty.
Psychology should not have taken up THAT much of my time. The lectures truly are boring, she will do poll everywhere to make sure you are there. The average for the first test was literally 60%. If you want an easy A, avoid taking her, if you don't want to study every fkn week, don't take her. Again, she over complicated psych!
She grades WAY too heavily on quiz/exams. I am a straight A student, but barely made an A because the tests are weighted too heavily. Quiz q's are recycled into exams, but she doesnt give you the correct answers afterward! Only gives practice exams right before the final. Not helpful. It's better to study random quizlets online instead of lectures.
You have to put in the work and do well in this class. She sets up the structure well, she definitely has a great way of teaching. This class is super interesting and the professor is engaging. You must read the textbook and take notes to do well on the exams.
It's hard for me to rate this class and this professor, because the class was basically the textbook and a few TED Talks. What can I say? Read/watch those, show up on test day, and you'll be fine. I didn't even watch most of the talks but I passed with an 89. It's hard to review Prof. Wallendael because honestly, she didn't play a huge role.
I managed to pass with a B, but this professor is someone to be avoided. Many of my peers, including myself, were accused of cheating on the workbook assignments when it was not the case. If your work sounds even remotely different than the "average" students answer, you will get accused of cheating.
The class is online but you HAVE to take the test inperson at a testing center. She was nice at first, but now she's accusing students for using AI or other cheatig methods left and right when she isn't 100% sure and her methods are unreliable. Her tests are okay but you definitely need to study for them and read the textbook, and study the quiz qs
Very inconsistent with grading and accuses you of cheating even if
I thought this class was easy so long as you paid attention and did the notes. I've never had lower than a high B in this course and did not have to work really hard for it. Just don't cheat and you'll be fine (contrary to all the other reviews on here, it's not that deep)
She was alright, not the best. I only passed this class because of
I thought the class was pretty easy. As long as you read the chapter and study the concepts, you should be ok. As far as the cheating allegations, I think as long as you do not use outside sources or even Grammarly, you should be fine. This is not a class you can just get by without putting in the work, and if you need help, she is willing to help!
For the PSYC 4103 capstone, Dr. Wallendael is the best instructor! Although this class was a little difficult, she does a good job of outlining the key ideas for each topic. If someone wants to take Research Methods, History, & Systems of Psychology (capstone), I would suggest having her as their instructor. She's very sweet and caring.
Dr. Lori's class isn't a easy, but it's manageable with effort. Dedication is key!! Watching lecture notes helped more than the book, making Quizlet for each of the weekly quizes helps with test, and having a class GC helped. Assignments due early in the week. Tests have around 50 questions, one open-ended. Don't use AI,chegg etc.she will know!
Dr. Wallendael seems thoroughly uninterested in helping her students learn or complete her unnecessarily tedious workload. She is not only a difficult grader, but her multiple-choice test questions are also vaguely worded trick questions. This class is solely taught through a textbook, be sure to read!
Hard exams, passive-aggressive, mean.
Quite literally, so unhelpful, so unkind, and terribly difficult exams.
NO!NO!NO! difficult tests.
PSYC2101 with Professor Lori is no easy A, but dedication pays off. Quizlet and unstuck AI were lifesavers for test prep - don't rely too much on the textbook alone.
Anybody who says that her class is hard is not telling the truth. If you read the textbook and do the assignments, it's the easiest A. Since it is an asynchronous class, you have to do things at your own pace, which is probably why people rate her so low because they don't properly manage their time correctly. This class is NOT horribly difficult!
Good professor, but incredibly hard. You have to read, or else you will fail. Exams are 50 questions long, have to be taken in the testing center, and are worth half your grade—very heavily weighted. You could do poorly on homework, ace the exams, and pass with a B. Very fast-paced class with too much information at once. She gives good feedback.
It was a pretty easy class if you read the on line textbook and studied a little. Attendance was mandatory but I did not pay attention or learn during class. I mostly learned by reading the textbook and taking notes outside of class b\y myself.
By far one of the strictest professors I have ever had. Lowest exam, Inquizitive and Workbook grades are dropped which is nice, but she has no empathy for her students whatsoever. I don't recommend if you don't have good time management. Tests are extremely tricky, I studied for our final for three weeks and only received a 64. Not recommended.
she doesn't care about you, she won't help you in any kind of way, she would NOT forgive anything or be understanding of any situation and her exams are NEVERRRR like her hw or notes :)
I had a huge lecture hall and she was so boring. The assignments were easy during the week and not too heavy, but the exams were HORRIBLE, I never got over a 64 and my friends all faield them too. They are not anything like the homework or textbooks were assigned. I am so glad I am not a psych major.
I didn't have any grievances with her, but that's mostly because this course was entirely self-taught for me. You MUST read every page of every chapter of the textbook while taking notes and making flashcards if you want to get an A. Those who do not are the ones who fail. Truly.
Dr. Wallendael taught a class of 300 and managed it very well. We met once a week so every class covered something different and Dr. Wallendael always had something engaging/ interactive. You have to read especially if it's your first psychology class. The class is test heavy and the tests are challenging so set aside time to study. Recommend.
The class was ok to me. Normally I am a straight A student and I will be barely scraping by with a B. I used flashcards and learned that way by memerizing pretty much. Shes a nice teacher I reached out a few times and she responded quickly. I think the material itself is whats difficult but its extremely test heavy and 3 other assignments a week.
This was a fully online class, but you had to go to campus at scheduled times for exams. Not a fan of that. Professor Lori is SO nice though and genuinely cares about her students. Her grading is very clear and fair, and she's always happy to help. Highly recommend.
The content itself was pretty easy. She assigned weekly quizzes and assignments. She offers online lectures. I found her exams to be very hard to understand. I knew the content, but consistently got Bs and Cs because her questions are confusing. When half the class failed exams, she blamed it on us for not trying enough. She did offer a lot of EC.
