femenist hippie. She tries to teach like she knows what she is doing. treat a community college like a real college. If you are a girl feel free to take the class, but if you are a guy, dont take her cause will not pass.
She was extremely unhelpful. She never returned my emails nor phone calls. Her grading did not seem fair. She ignored some students bluntly. She did not sign some students drop slips. Half of my class dropped her class.

She's extremely hard and doesn't put up with any kind of slacking (duh, it's college). But I really enjoyed her. Very helpful. If you're looking for the easy way out- then don't take her. Or don't go to college. Don't be lazy and you will do well.

Each semester she has fewer and fewer students. Why? Not approachable, comes off way too harsh and strict... if you agree with her that's great for you, but if not watch out. Imposes her feminist and liberal views on the class. Tests are extremely hard. Don't take her class!
I thought she was a very good teacher. She was opinionated but I thought she also respected other people's opinion as well. I did very well in her class and would take her again!
i took comp 2 and american lit with her -- and i got A's in both classes. i loved her! she's the reason i'm an english major. yes, she's a bit difficult -- but if you go to class, listen to her lectures, do the work, and don't slack off you will do well. if you don't want to learn, don't take her. you will learn and you will appreciate english if you go into her class with an open mind.
Was a difficult teacher, unclear, and a very difficult grader, if you want to make an A dont take this class, it wont happend. She is nice, but in an unwarm kind of way, seems kinda cold, and weather as a person, she probaly lives alone! LOL

I used to love to read until I had this teacher. She will make you hate any type of literature. I make straight A's but not with Prejudice Lori.I do what she asks on tests and I still seem to fail. Avoid this feminist teacher at all cost.
I have taken her and Scott. She is a sorry excuse for a teacher. The only way to pass her class is to go to her office hours.
She is a hard essay grader but she is very helpful. All you have to do is go to her for help and she will tell you what is wrong with the essay so you can fix it. She gives a lot of handouts that explain everything. Dont take her if you are looking for an easy way out!! If you are a serious college student you can learn some stuff from her.
A very energetic woman! She is hard though. I got a C, but if you can pass her class you can pass many other classes. She grades really hard so be prepared and always have your stuff ready for class. She is picky with papers so be careful!
The hardest grader i have ever come across. If you dont go to office hours, dont expect to get a passing grade. Makes you feel stupid sometimes when you ask questions...all you do in this class is write essays... and only have 4 grades at the end of the semester... NEVER TAKE THIS TEACHER...
I took Miss Watts class in 1994 which I think was her first year at MCC. She was VERY hard but VERY fair. I went to a high school with strict grading on english papers, so she was similar to what I was used to. If a student has bad grammer or went to a HS where proper english was not enforced, they might have hard time with her. Strict but good.

If you want to be prepared and not look foolish to your future professors when you write papers, take her. Teaches class manners that I wish every teacher enforced. She may seem hard to approach; but attend optional conferences and go to her office a few times. It will boost your grade immensly, you'll need it. She lets class out early sometimes.
If you want to keep your GPA high and you know that English is not your thing then DO NOT TAKE HER!!!! She is the hardest teacher I have taken at MCC so far. She grades very hard and is very strict. Personality wise she's really nice but that is not going ot get you and A so I don't recommend her

Not recommended. She's a nice lady but if you don't write in her style then she is somewhat biased. Almost impossible to make A on paper. Bs are managable but other teachers will give you As for her Bs.
Hardest English teacher I've ever had, and I've had some hard ones. She does NOT use blackboard which is very unhelpful. You pretty much never know you're progress in the class. I would NOT recommend her.
I had alot of trouble in her class due to the fact that when ever she would say do something that you experiebce with she would say its to indivual.ex: a process analyzed paper i had chose to do a divorce process since i had gone thur one but she said it was to indivual i dropped her class due to this so i wouldnt hurt my GPA

Professor Watts is a COLLEGE professor. If you walk into the class expecting to have someone hold your hand, you're sunk. But she very clear about what she wants, and will help anybody who takes time to ask for it. Challenging but worth it.
Professor Watts is one of the toughest teachers I have had....but one of the best!! She knows what she is talking about and if you think you are not going to have rules when you get out in the real world...think again!! I think MCC is very luck to have her!

Very strict, but you will learn in her class. Lots of writing, but balanced with a lot of in-class discussion that 's in-depth, not just 'what happened then' stuff. Recommended if you like English; if not, take Scott.
horrible teacher, it you had family things going on she made you feel like she had pitty for you and that was the only reason she did something for you. had a bad morning and students you are screwed. had to drop the class along with other students. very picky, and if you dont do it her way right away then you will fail.

Hard Class, She grades very hard. Follow directions. She stresses that. As long as your respect her and do you work she's not bad.
This professor is very picky and detail oriented. Overall, I think she is a good Professor but needs to ease up a bit. She does not like to hand out passing grades unless you have actually earned it. The only issue I have with her is that she expects her students in class each day but she will cancel class about once a week.
She was a great teacher. I do not know much more thorough she could get without writing it on your skin - she had a handout for everything! She was very hard and I think it has more to do with how mature you are as a student as to how well you did in her class.
My first semester in college back in 1999. She was more than willing to help, which gave me early confidence in my writing abilities. I now have a PhD and write academic material for my career. I owe at least some of my success to this class.
I did learn a lot, but she handed out a lot handouts, which helped you be organized, but was, a times, superfluous. I did not get the grade I should have even though I worked very hard and had my sister (who is an english teacher) look over my papers.

Run far far away from this prof! She is horrible at communicating instructions. Her lectures are boring and she can be very judgmental at times! Her test are ridiculous and God forbid if you have an emergency and miss a class! She is not helpful and opinions are not allowed unless you agree with her! RUN!

I made a B in her class, but i have to say if i had went to her earlier in the semester i probably could have gotten an A. She does want detail in your work, but i respect that she challenged me to become a better writer. She is very helpful. That being said, if you're not a person that will work hard, then this is not the teacher for you.
Run away or have this be the ONLY class you take for the semester. This class is ridiculously difficult. She is the most outrageous grader. On my first paper I went to her office hours and she said my paper was good but it got a d on my final draft. She has WAY too many rules and she is ALWAYS 5-10 mins late but god forbid if you are. You must ALWAYS have your materials and she makes it adamant that no late work is accepted no matter the circumstance. She lectures well and does teach you things but grades like your in an ivy league school. However she is always in her office hours so if you have the time, go for it. Had to drop the class and I will not take her next semester.

Sooooo hard!!! She was rude, and not to mention we started out as a class of 20 by the end of the semester there were 5 people (including myself) left. No one wanted her to teach them and i dont blame them!
we barely stayed the whole time in class,she gave us class off very often or would let us go after we turned our paper in. She barely taught us anything or told us what she expected but still graded very hard. She's condescending and unhelpful. I got the drift that if you didn't take your paper in to see her you wouldn't be getting a good grade.

Professor Watts is demanding, but for a good reason. She genuinely wants all her students to gain knowledge in learning to be a efficient writer. She is very good at providing you with resources and tools that build a strong foundation in the writing field. If you want to be a great writer she could surely show you how.

Professor Watts is very helpful; I have asked her to proofread my essays a lot of times and she was always willing to do that for me. Her suggestions let me know what she wanted so I could rewrite my essay before deadline. As a result, I made a high A in this class. Lots of people failed because they never asked for her help outside of the class.
Professor Watts doesn't only focus on teaching English and /or literature, but also, she tries to instill discipline. In her class, you earn a grade; she doe not give it away- and rightly so. So if you expect to be given a "free" grade, please stay away from her class. She is a wonderful person, and I would recommend her.
She demands air but doesn't give clear understanding. She makes it to where the only way you will do good is if she's proof reading your work personally but literally has "no time" in her schedule. I do not recommend this class to anyone who is taking more than 1 class
This professor was very RUDE and unclear about her assignments! She missed like half of the classes and she took FOREVER to hand back papers! I thought she would teach us how to write in MLA style since it was a freshman composition class but she just expected us to know already!!! DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!!! -_-
She is the worst professor I have ever had in my life. Never teaches anything in classroom; only expects you to come for help in her office. If you have a job and family or if you are taking more than one class, I don't recommend her at all. She only knows to assign essays and grade it tough. More than 30 students at beginning but at end only 5-6.
Professor Watts is one of the worst in history. I surprisingly got out of the class with an A, but she tore each and everyone of my papers apart. She is too tough of a critic. You could be a scholastic author but she will make you feel like you just began high school again. If you want help you have to ask her in her office, not during lecture.
She expects you to bring her 3 or more rough drafts before turing in the paper every time. She is a very nice lady on a personal level (talking to her before or after class) but makes things extremely difficult and is a bit rude if you go against what she expects. DO NOT be late, skip class, or go to the restroom during class.
There was only one lecture throughout the entire semester, the rest of the class meetings were simply instructions on assignments. Two textbooks, a dictionary, and whiteout are required, however they were rarely used. Extremely tough grader and rarely in her office during her office hours.

This was the toughest class I have ever taken. She's clear about what she expects, but her grading is absurd. Wants you to be specific in every sentence, but will consider it rambling most of the time. I do not think there is any way to please her. All classes are instructions for the next assignment due next. Do not recommend.
Class started out with more students than the classroom could hold, and ended with about 6 people. Will give feedback on every assignment, but when corrected how she wants, something will still be wrong.
Expects you to write 3-5 rough drafts and correct each draft yourself in order to get an A on a paper. She is very rude and condescending and demands punctuality but is always late herself. She is a nice person-terrible professor. It is possible to get an A but difficult if you are taking a full course load, or if you're in sports.
By far without doubt the worst professor in the whole system. Awful, awful, awful. DO NOT RECOMMEND. In my pure honest opinion the lady should be fired. Not impressed one bit Mrs. Watts. Your name goes around campus on a bad note.
Though she is a tough grader, and you do have to work hard in this class does not mean she is not a good professor. She does care what you are doing and offers many resources of help, but you have to reach out to her first. She gives you wide margins to where if you have questions you can go ask her. She tells you to use her as a resource, Do it.

This is not a class you can just show up to and get an A, but she is a really great professor if you actually follow instructions to the T. + She takes the time to give you feedback if you need it and really wants to help you pass!
Go into her class with an open mind. She really is a diamond in the rough. You first think this class will absolutely suck, but she ends up really helping you in any way you need. She gives good feedback and will treat you like an educated adult.
She'll give you feed back on your papers, then she calls for mandatory times to talk with her. On your paper she'll have written notes, face to face she'll say everything is looking great. After telling you your paper looks good she will then proceed to give you "D"s. If she was clear in person, it would've been okay, however that was not the case.
Mrs. Watts is a good teacher, she expects your work done correctly and grades a bit on the hard side. She is easy to get along with. I would not take this class if you struggle with English but if you are comfortable with English it would be a good class to improve your skills.
This was my second time to take American Lit but the first time with Professor Watts. If you have to take American Lit do take it with her because she is better than the other teachers. Read, Read, Read and than read more. Take notes, FOLLOW DIRECTIONS! She is extremely hard but believe me better than the other teacher I took.
Mrs. Watts is truly a hard professor. She will count a question wrong for one grammatical error. Mrs. Watts grades your tests and assignments as if you were in an honors college that she also teaches at. Beware that there is a lot of reading to do in her class. There are in-class writings each day so be sure not to miss unless it's an emergency.
Professor Watts is really tough, but a great teacher. I took her for a Fall English Comp One class. We had around 5 major essay grades with 2 or 3 smaller grades for each essay. There was also reading assignments for each essay. Her grading is tough, but she offers a lot of help in and out of class. Make sure you go to class and you can pass.
Absolute worst grading rubric. The amount of time given is not reasonable for the amount of work provided. Too much work and not enough time. Do not take.
Professor Watts is tough. She answers your questions and recommends seeing her during her office hours (DO IT). Some big advice would be ask questions, be very specific in your essays!!!!!!! Dont use words like things, stuff, places, it. She prefers clear, in depth details. Show up, work hard, and you can pass. Good luck!!!!
Whatever corrections you made on your papers per her comments where never satisfying to her. She was very difficult to please regarding any papers that were submitted to her. I feel like she grades on a higher level that Comp I. I realized she was a AP college level professor and that was her grading scale for her classes.
Unclear or insane requirements for grading
She's looking for very precise instruction following, which most of us can't seem to do. Likes essays written in a formulaic structure, which is given in the textbooks. She failed 75% of us. Probably don't take if you value your GPA.
Honestly Professor Watts is not bad. She is strict about what she wants BUT is willing to help you outside of class. I wish I would have gone to her more often because my research essay was rough but she helped me with the others. She helped me improve my writing skills better than high school teachers ever had. Would recommend!
Professor Watts was not rude or anything, she was just a really tough grader. You could read your essays a million times and still receive a low grade. She grades on a really high level that English 1301 shouldnt be graded on. I know a lot of people who are retaking the class because of this. If you take your grades really serious dont take her.

she is very nice as a person but if you are needing a composition credit and you are starting out fresh in college, I would highly advise not taking this class because for a starter comp the grade requirements are too tough and you will find yourself wasting to much paper. She grades very hard. She takes off points if you don't scribble on your drafts enough to her liking. There were only four essays, but I could never please her. If nothing else, she knows exactly what she wants in a paper. The books are only partly necessary.

Fall 2020 is her 1st year of doing a blended course. Her video instructions are long and repetitious. Her heavy use of ALL CAPS, bold, and underlined text in Brightspace can be headache-inducing.
Extensive and clear feedback was given for assignments. I was always wrong though, even after I tried to fix the recurring problems. Seems like a class that tries so hard to be a college class that it becomes more difficult than a normal college class. Manage time well. She does not like you turning work close to the time she sets the deadline.
Her notes are incredibly hard to understand because she highlights everything and doesnt actually tech anything just expects you to learn on your own. She isnt a very good professor and dont recommend this professor for any freshman because you are gonna have a hard time.

I knew the class was going to be bad once she took off points for me using a lowercase l instead of an upper case l when spelling her name out. Everything I did was apparently wrong even when I followed the directions. Do not take her even if she is the last teacher open.. just wait!
Do not take her. She grades all of your essays based on how SHE thinks it should be. Doesnt allow you to write freely or how you feel. Incredibly strict and needs papers to be written how she wants them exactly. Will take points off in a paper for things she said you should put. Horrible first time college experience. Professor Watts is a very strict teacher. The only grades you will ever really get will come from the essays you write. She is an extremely tough grader. Some things she does well though is her feedback on essays is impeccable. She also gives you chances to email her any parts of an essay before the due date to get feedback.
So, I really screwed up by opting to take her. She's currently only allowing her students to write every thesis on COVID-19. I have no problem with the topic per se... but the burnout is real. She also likes to give help and suggestions and then (when grading) will contradict herself and ream you when you take said advice. Students beware.
I took this class as a first year and she made me hate writing. She will tell you how she grades but when it comes down to it, she contradicts herself a lot. She also assigns a lot of essays. You will constantly be doing essay after essay and she is unclear most of the time with her instructions. I never used the book I bought for her.

Hard Grader
At first I was frustrated at her tough grading, but as the class continued I realized it improved my writing skills greatly. Her meticulous attention to detail made me aware of problems I did not know I had. This is an excellent class for learning the fundamentals if you are planning on getting a degree that requires a lot of writing.
She is nit picky. Anything is repetition to her. She would mess up and mix assignments. One of my friends did a research assignment on Cathrine Johnson. She said he chose Jorge Ramos when he didn't and he emailed her TWICE that he chose Johnson. She gave him a bad grade and when he explained she didn't change grades. That is one story.
She thinks anything is repetition. I only made a good grade because I always sent drafts in for her to review. She ALWAYS contradicted herself. If you follow her samples she gave in its entirety, she would still find an issue with it. She cancelled class a lot and didn't really TEACH anything. Do not take her if you have other options.

Professor Watts gave clear instructions most of the time but is a tough grader. She is pretty good about answering emails in a timely manner. She has heavy expectations that are hard to meet, especially if you are a first-time college student. Hardly ever canceled class. She gives good feedback on papers, but you must get drafts to her immediately.
Her handwriting is awful, could hardly understand any of her feedback. Essays are back-to-back. She is strict and has high standards. She gives unclear instructions and often contradicts herself. I only took her class because she was the last available option. Goes to show that her class is unenjoyable, especially for a first-time college student.
While there are few essays, getting a bad grade is easier and very hard to improve. Professor Watts is the toughest grader I have ever had and nitpicks just about anything. The teacher showed no sympathetic feelings for her students at all, was not flexible for any of her assignments, and any time her guidelines were followed , she counted it wrong for following her guidelines, she is a tough grader and does not have a good teaching ethic and will not enroll in her class again..
If you pay attention to what she posts, you should pass the class with an easy A/B. She gives specific instructions on how long she wants your essays to be and what you must include. She is very quick to respond to emails and gives constructive feedback for you to improve your essay. She gives plenty of time for you to work on your essays as well.
This class will be hard if you do not ask for feedback. Professor Watts gives you a chance to ask for feedback on drafts. If you do not ask for feedback you most likely will fail. Professor Watts is a harsh grader and you will need to follow directions completely. Her biggest thing is that students follow instructions.

Worst professor ever!! she constantly had a high and mighty attitude boasting many do not pass the course. Would go as far as even waiting till 24 hours or less till a deadline to post an assignment. Leaving students high and dry to potentially miss the grade and fail out or say they didn't meet attendance policy and drop them from the course.
Do not take her!! Says everything is either repetitive or needs more examples. Even if you follow everything she says, she will say there is something wrong with it. Doesn't grade on the quality of the paper, rather how she thinks it should be. Dropped out because it was so bad… do not recommend.

If one word, any word, is in a PARAGRAPH more than once, she takes off points. Be prepared to have a C average.

Professor Watts was my last option to take for english. She is a nice woman, her ways about writing is off of her opinion rather than writing skill. She will always find an issue with a paper no matter if you ask for feedback. I do however think she teaches good beginning writing techniques and I will be using her methods for future classes.

I have never received higher than a 70% on any assignment in this class. She has failed me for "Not Properly Formatting" when all that was not done was indentions in said essay. She also failed me for her not being able to open links in an annotated works cited page. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFFESSOR!!
