Lorie is an amazing professor. She is very inspirational and uses her life experience to teach the class. Do not miss any class if possible, attendance is important. As long as you show up, actively participate and turn in assignments you will do very well in this class. I love her class and would recommend it to anyone.

Attendance is mandatory, but it is so worth going to every single one of her lectures! If I had the option of taking all of my HTM classes with her I would!

Lorie is honestly one of the best professors I have ever had, and frankly one of the best people I have ever met. There are virtually no tests. Lectures are fun, never boring. She teaches you about the industry, takes you on tours around Grand Rapids, and helps you make essential connections in the local industry. She is amazing!!!

I loved having Lorie as a professor- signed up for more of her classes for next year. Her HTM 101 course is focused on more experiences and talking to people in the industry rather than learning terms, industry things, etc. which is the only downfall if you are going into HTM. Do not buy the text book-

Lorie is always upbeat and never lets anything affect her. Even when she is having a bad week she does not let that affect our learning. she is inspirational and never gives up on her students. she does not have favorites and is willing to help with anything. she's approchable and willing to put as much time in as possible. she is life changing.

She's lived an amazing life and has accomplished everything she's wanted to do. She teaches you the things that you actually need in life. No tests, movies for homework, just gotta show up for class. Field trips.

Lorie is a great prof. This class gave a great knowledge of rec and leisure programming. Biggest grade is a group project, but she makes it easy to work through it during the class and makes the whole project very clear.

She is fantastic. One of the better professors I've had. Attendance is absolutely mandatory and you better watch the movies that she asks you to watch but otherwise she can send your career in the right direction because she knows people everywhere and can hook you up with an internship or at least a way to put yourself out there.

Lori is GREAT! You literally just watch movies before the class- go to class- and talk about the movies. There is a conference project which is super easy as well. You meet with her with your topic, research it very lightly, put it on the pre-organized presentation, and present it. You MUST attend class to pass.

Lorie is great! She is there for her students and accommodated us when needed. During COVID-19 she tried her hardest to make her class as easy as possible for us during the switch to online, and when we were in class, she still made it as easy and as manageable as possible. I really enjoyed her class & she is a great prof and person!

Dr. Tuma was great, she teaches case study, so most of the assignments are watching documentaries, it's so simple but you'll retain more from this class than most. She's honest and cares about what you have to say. I wish I could take her again.

I really enjoyed having Lorie!! This class inspired me to change my minor to Hospitality and Tourism. You watch movies instead of having readings which was a fun, new approach to learning. She goes out of her way to provide opportunities for her students and is an excellent source to have for the future.

I had Lorie for HTM 101 and now HTM 202 and she is THE BEST PROF at GV!! This class was very content heavy, but we were able to go at our own pace. Most of the content was watching movies or short videos explaining various topics in International Tourism, then had to create a philosophical blog about the various topics. 12/10 recommend taking Lorie

She was really nice and she cared enough to give me her phone # so I could text which is so much easier than email. The only reason she got 4 stars is because she changed the class time the day before class, so many students couldnt attend the office hours or lectures. Other than that she is a great teacher and really cares about her students .

I had Lorie Tuma for Fall 2020, it was fully online. I thought she did an absolute amazing job, especially for being online. She does this thing called my three things, which really helps to keep things on track.

Professor Tuma is the most caring and understanding professor I've met in 4.5 years at GVSU. She lays out everything on the table for the class from the beginning. She explains things in a way everyone can understand and posts lots of useful videos. Her class structure is very flexible, essentially do it on your own time. BEST PROFESSOR EVER

I am not typically a fan of online classes, so this was no exception. Lorie is so sweet and willing to help out. I was upset with my grade, but reached out and she gave a full explanation of the grade in a very professional manner. Work load was doable if you kept up with it each week. One group project as well. Interesting topics too.

How could you say anything bad about Dr Tuma. She is the nicest, prof and I learned SO much in her class. If you have issues, you just didnt do the work. Literally, sweetest woman and wants you to succeed. Take her class and keep her in your network. She knows everyone and they know her. Love this woman.

Making a blog website felt daunting/overwhelming at first but is not bad once you get into it. Nothing is due until the end of the semester. I LOVED HER. I wish she could teach in person. Her class was online but by far one of my favorite classes Ive taken and that says a lot with it all being on zoom. She cares so much and will help with anything. She does a case method teaching style so that might not be for everyone, but I was able to work with it.

Although responses to emails would be somewhat untimely, Professor Tuma made the course interesting by sharing her philosophy on the hospitality industry. She found unique ways to engage the class and share personal experiences relevant to the course content and objectives. Nothing is graded until the end which made the course more of a breeze.

This was a 6-week online course with one thing to do each week and a paper at the end. SO easy and definitely worth your time if you need a one-credit class. She made a goodbye video online and seems like a super sweet human. She is responsive in emails and wants you to succeed because she created this class herself.

This is the 2nd time I had Lorie Tuma. I took her HTM 402 class and it was easy. She made the class easy and this woman shows that she cares about the subject and her students. All you have to do is blog entries, discussion boards, and then a presentation at the end. The presentation is just a little send off after graduation. Totally recommend!!!!

Dr. Tuma is easily the best professor I've had so far, she cares so much about all of her students and all you need to do to finish with an A is put in a little bit of effort. Dr. Tuma is a great instructor for this online course and always give you extra time if you miss a deadline she will open it back up and let you submit your work. The course work she gives out over the week is a small amount, nothing overwhelming.
