Will lecture from an over-head projector, this makes the lecture both comfusing and boring.
stuborn old Professor
Lectures from an overhead projector. Moves quickly difficult to take notes. UnGodly amount of reading for grad level courses. No time to enjoy the texts.
Loved the concept of the class. Hated the professor. She gives you an absurd amount of information and expects you to memorize everything. Including the dates! When they say Japanese Culture, they mean EVERYTHING ABOUT THE JAPANESE FROM THE DAY OF EXISTENCE. Shes boring and an odd ball.
She gave so many notes and she expected us to know every last bit of it! She also grades harder than most other Humanities professors. She was very enthusiastic about the subject, though.
subject was interesting, but too much work!
She is very knowledgeable and really tries hard to impart her information to students. However, in her enthusiasm compresses too much information into each class. She goes inordinately fast which makes it hard to understand and take notes of simultaneous lecture, powerpoint presentation and artwork. Provides super, detailed study guide for exams tho
FITZSIMMONS IS HORRIBLE AND SHE MAKE THE ENTIRE CLASS WRITE FOR 2 HOURS AND 20 MINUTES TO BE EXACT. YOU CAN PARTICIPATE, DO THE EXTRA CREDIT AND SHE STILL GRADE AS IF YOU DID NOT COME TO CLASS. I WORKED HARD AND RECEIVED A D. I AM CURRENTLY TAKING MR. FURUSA WHOM IS FAR MORE INTERESTING AND IS DEEP. I ELECT HIM AS THE CHAIRPERSON.
GREAT TEACHER - I TOOK THE FAUST CLASS - WOW! REALLY LOVED IT. SHE IS SO KNOWLEDGABLE. I REALLY ENJOYED HER CLASS. GOT AN A! THIS WAS IN 2001 - SHE IS VERY A MEMORABLE TEACHER & WAS ONE OF THE BEST AT CSUDH. THE CLASS WORK WAS ADEQUATE - WHAT DO YOU EXPECT; YOU'RE IN COLLEGE NOT H.S.
She is a good teacher, but gives out toooo much work. If you good at history and read a lot of book then you will be OK.. To me, "WHAT THE HECK IS SHE TALKING ABOUT?"
Really hard but interesting. Made me feel like I was in a grad. class. Although it was really hard I enjoy listening to woman talk with her English accent and all those weird facts. LOVED IT.
She lectures with her eyes closed. Asks questions that she does not want answers to. Will find a way to cut down any answer she gets. Asks some students to stop contributing in class. Smug and detached. She is full of trivia but no real substantive themes. Hope to never have her again. Tons of work with little purpose.
This prof. gets a bad rap from "students" who probably shouldn't be in college if they find it difficult to a)attend class regularly b)read the assigned material c)take good notes and d)write at a college level. Demanding, yes. Impossible, no. Rewarding, very! College is NOT an extension of high school.
This teacher is an absolute bore. She sounds like the characters in the books that she teaches regarding the devil. Her test were extremely hard and she was not very helpful in test preparations. She has tons of reading which would not be so bad if it were not 3 big books. If you take her calss do so when you do not have a full schedule.
She is awful, she is boring, subject matter is diificult to understand. She is not helpful in understanding the material, does not give study guides. Use carful judgement before taking her .
so i arrived to the class & immediately the professor announces the class has to buy these "readers" as she calls it from this publishing co for $25. then she announces the class is to buy 3 more books! I was appalled! The US is in a freakin' recession have some compassion!! The topic seemed incredibly boring&she requires tons of reading, I dropped
I understand this is not a high school class but a little help it doesn't hurt. Dr. Fitzsimmons was very difficult for me but she is very knowledgable. the class requests a lot of writing and be ready for that because she does not like to post the clas in blackboard. The first part of semestre she requires a lot of memorization. It's a hard class.
This teacher is really hard. Never replies to emails, does not have any consideration on students. Our topic was Lives of Faust...... Man! that class was confusing. She never posted the lectures on blackboard so attendance is mandatory!!!!! I got confused from book to book. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!
This class is a cake walk as olong as you do what college students are supposed to do- read, show up to class, pay attention and study. Professors like this gives college its meaning. She is just doing her part in preparing students for the future.
Terrible. Unclear. Inconsiderate of students concerns, questions or attempts to participate. I feel she wants her students to fail.
inconsiderate, unhelpful, and unclear...
This teacher is so boring and her teaching style is really bad. She puts too much on powerpoint but wants you to write what she talks about.
Terrible experience! she has an obsession with Dr. Faust.
Shes really hot headed and full of herself..loves thats she's smarter than you...makes the class harder than it is and its hard to understand her
PLEASE RETIRE OR DON'T TEACH AT ALL!!! You need to get 4 books!!Also be prepare to turn a 10pg paper and an essay final w/20 short essay questions!! All due at the end of the semester.
She is very tough but when one leaves her class, they are better for having had the experience. She was both a professor of mine and my MA advisor. She was, without a doubt, someone I counted on, and trusted throughout the entire process.
DON'T TAKE HER!!! THAT'S THE BEST ADVICE I CAN GIVE YOU!!!
She knows her material very well (Elizabethan era, Renaissance). She is a clear lecturer & uses audio/video clips which makes class more interesting. If class is 1x weekly, prepare for a long haul. You must be able to take good notes and read all assigned material if you want a high grade.
I have no respect for this teacher, because she humiliated me in front of the entire class. Told me since I am an upper division student, I refer to a dictionary. However, this lady does not post her slides on a Modernized College website. All handwritten notes quick. Do not take her; she expects too much a ten page paper and some.

To many books to READ... Doesn't return emails, calls & don't answer her office door.
Extreamlly difficult.
HORRIBLE professor. hated her. and its not true that everybody who failed was unproductive or not responsible because i came to class every week, took notes, completed every asignment and still didnt do well. shes boring & degrading with a heavy accent. !!
This lady is so "removed". She doesn't try to connect with the students at all. The books are not "readable" books. About 75% of the class seems confused most of the time. The tests do not test our knowledge of the material, but who did what like a History class. A lot of the class thinks they are going to fail regardless of how hard they work.
The professor goes through powerpoint slides fast. Exams are based on class lectures, so take notes! Long and tedious (night) class. Midterm, Final, and a 10-page paper. Exam questions were very difficult. But luckily I got an A in the course.
She is not easy that's for sure. Does powerpoint slides, but they are straight from the textbook! I saw lots of people frantically writing notes, but not necessary if you actually read the material.
She did not keep us informed of our grades and 60% of our grade was in the last week of class and attendance was 10% of our grade. When asked about my grades and she never got back to me regarding my grade on the final or my grade on my paper. She only changed my grade that I thought would be the lowest.
Everything posted is true for the most part but just study her study guides and you will do fine in the class. It is extremely boring and she is weird. There is a thousand books that she will want you to read and I honestly read non of them and I got a B because she tells you the important parts. Just go to class take notes and do her study guide.
Dr. Fitzsimmons was an excellent instructor. I loved her class. She was really hard but you learned alot from her. There is a lot of writing, studying and reading but that is the norm for a college level course...
I took her jokes and pleasure class and it was alright. we wacthed some movies and had a lot of reading assignments. I read some but not all. she will tell you the important parts to read. so just attend class and study the terms and you'll be fine
Professor Fitzsimmons has a lot of knowledge however she is all over the place with information. It is hard to assess what she expects from you on her exams because she is inconsistent in her teaching methods and there are only two exams... The midterm and the final! I would not recommend anyone who likes an organized instructor to take this class.
Worst teacher I have encountered in my college career. She is rude and obnoxious. Her teaching style is no help what so ever. I would not recommend taking her. She is not responsive at all to emails and does not seem to care about her students.
She definitely is a tough grader. I would not recommend taking her online because she will give you more work than any general education class. She expects everyone to not use the book for the midterm (which is a written midterm rather than multiple choice). I think her teachings is along the line of she expects more from you. Good luck.
This is a really interesting professor. I learned a lot from her class. She is funny too. I would take her again. Tough though.
She is very passionate about what she teaches, and open to questions. Answers emails fast and is encouraging. Her lectures are detailed and informative.
COOL professor! I really got into this course specially the art, music is good as well. she expects a lot from students and is kinda inspirational, not like some of these professors who don't respond. good communication skills. makes it all easy to understand. what I rember most is the art .
I took her death and dying and it was a meaningful class. There was a lot of different mediums used in the class. I got a lot out of it.
Took an online course. Lots of reading towards the end of the semester plus a paper. She grades quickly and answers emails quickly. Overall enjoyed the class and got an A. My advice is to read the books in advance so that you don't have to do so much at the end of the semester.
Prof Fitzsimmons is a horrible instructor. I took the online course and found the content to be very inspirational. However, she is unclear about certain aspects of the class. She doesn't communicate your grades, it is difficult to know your standing. Know how to cite material, if not prepare to get accused of plagiarism. Don't take her!!!!!!
There is plenty of reading for her class. Be sure to take notes and take the study guide seriously. Try and have it filled before you take her midterm or final.
powerpoints are helpful. instructor is helepful. good feedback. organized, interactive.
Awesome. Participation matters. hot topics.
I was nervous to take her online class because of the reviews but it is the opposite from the reviews here. Yes, there is a lot of reading (which is expected for all college courses) but you just need to manage your time. She responds to e-mail fast, grades them right away and gives you feedback. Also the syllabus is very clear.
DO NOT! Take her class. She isn't clear with assignments and tests. There's way too many readings and db each week, plus two novels! (one of which was 300 pages long). Both midterm and final exams were closed book, yet she asked to provide evidence. She failed my midterm exam, when I clearly cited my work. WORST CLASS AT CSUDH.
Took the Literature in Environment course. Lots of reading. The exams are short answer and essay. 8 page term paper. Couple of 2 page papers. Discussion board. Interesting readings and films, but overall course is a little boring. Lectures are PowerPoint and boring.
This instructor is great! She's always sending you reminders when stuff is due and motivational advice. Lots of feedback. Assignments are clear and the powerpoints really helped me learn the stuff. The discussions are interesting and really got me thinking.
I want to let you know about this teacher's dedication. She is caring and supportive. When you need help she is there for you. She goes out of her way to help students. I learned so much in this course. There is reading to do, but it helps your education.
I took the Environment and Literature. It was a delightful class. I recommend it. The teacher is very interactive and helpful.
I liked this course and the instructor. She is enthusiastic and helpful. The material gets a bit depressing, death, death, you know how it is. The discussion board is good.
This has been the best online class I have taken in five years. She tells you exactly what is due and when it is due, after that its up to you to make time to do it. Reasonable amount of work and reading, nice amounts of videos (rather than long readings). Excellent communication, overall one of the best instructors I have had.
Great professor! She made an online class feel like a real class sometimes with the discussion board and constant communication. Overall good class, easy if you do the work on time and read the material she gives you.
One of the most enjoyable online courses I have taken. A lot of reading and researching. Midterm and Final are pretty heavy on the subjects covered in discussion boards previous weeks. One long comparison research paper which was fun. Grading is fair and she makes every effort to help you fix mistakes to get a better grade. Great professor.
Class is easy but when it came to final grades and final exams she never posted the grades so you dont know how you received the grade in the first place. She still managed to get the grade wrong in the first place
This professor made me see what I was missing with other professors. She is one in a million. SO quick on the emails, so ready. I liked the class I cannot believe how interactive this professor is. some thick novels.
I took the witch course and it was like wow! this instructor has a good sense of humor
Comic Sans. Up to 10 emails a day. Unforgiving grading system. Enthusiastic, funny, and often helpful. She pushes critical thinking, but it's hard to do that when you have 6+ hours of reading and 2 hours of writing per week. Excessive material, not enough analysis. Entirely too much time required for a 3 unit undergrad course (srsly, look it up).
Abundance of reading and writing yet never any feedback as to whether your analysis is correct. Tests are awful. You're tested based on your analyses but since you don't get feedback you don't know if you're right or wrong until you get a bad grade on the test. Arbitrary grading system. Hated this class
She is awful, DO NOT TAKE her! I am usually an A student and received my first C for her class. Her exams are insanely difficult; she basically tests you on the entire book. She gives no feedback on the exams, so you do not know why youre receiving the grade you received. Her class requires too much work for a lower division general ed class.
Hey you guys. People say some crazy things in this thread. This is my 2nd course with this teacher. Took 200 & got hooked. My advisor recommended Death & dying. She's enthusiastic & inspirational. A good driver. Feedback yeah every session. Grading is consistent & fair. Some of the folk who spout off here sound like high school kids. Get real. LOL
This professor is energetic and takes the time to give each student feedback. I liked how she pairs you in groups to help you understand different viewpoints. She is a good communicator. She helps you with your writing. This course should be required of all students.
Worst professor and class Ive taken. The weekly assignments are not hard, neither are the quizzes. However her exams are extremely difficult, you will most likely fail and she will provide no feedback so youll have no idea why. Its too much work for and undergrad class and her grading is insane. Only good thing, shes specific and gives reminders
I took this class in the summer of 2018, I like when this professor gave us a variety of literature about the America Dream, and she posted our grades through the school learning management system, Blackboard. She gave us a chance to do our own essay.
Im a business major, humanities is just my GE. But I enjoy it, I like the different stories and art. I took 200 online and liked it. The professor knows a whole lot and seems like a sweet kind of person. Shes real good in the service area. I had no problem with the tests, nearly made an A. Work on the study questions and you will be fine.
This professor is fun to work with . I took the Great Cities. She interects a whole lot. You get to work in groups. It is a blessing to find a teacher like her. She is really in touch wtih students. Great course.
It like taking an English class, you have so much work to do in this class everyone felt stressed out. Please do not take her you will be wasting your time. I took 15 units and I got straight A's except for her class. It is very confusing and she emails a lot. I received at least 5 emails a day.
200 really turned me on to cultural history. I changed my major to art because of this course. I plan to be a teacher and I really enjoyed the way this professor teaches the course.
When she says she assigns 9-12hrs worth of assignments a week she MEANS IT. This is only a 3 unit class. Ive taken 4 and 5 unit classes and they were never as bad as this class. Theres also an 8 page paper before the final. Final & midterm are short answer and essay. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS, its hell.
I have to tell you straight from the heart that this teachers death course is good for you, people. Ill never forget it. I cried and I cried and I swore to use all this that i learned to help people, so help me god. The material is real interesting i couldnt get enough ot it. Style is cool, she lets you retake some stuff.
i thougt 310 was ok you need to follow the reminder she send ya
I've taken a bunch of online courses. I would put this one right up there.
She is picky about small things and indirectly answer your questions. I wont take her again, strongly not recommend her class!!!!! Just because my grammar is not great, and she grades hard and gives you no credit what soever. She is the WORST
Honestly I have had Phyics classes that require less work than she does. Its only a general education humanities course and she acts like you are getting a PHD. Everything is short answers and Essays.
This professor is real approachable and fun. She gives lots of encouragement and answers questions real quick. readings are intersting. I love how she gives u choices. I am learning a lot.
If you do not like writing do NOT take this class. However, if you are up to the challenge this course if for you. She isn't that tough of a grader but she assigns at least 250 word discussion per week. She also assigned a term paper but that was not that difficult either. She allows one retake for each quiz.
Great course. I used to think these courses were a waste of my time. this one got me into new stuff , , I got a lot out of it
I dont know why professor Fitzsimmons has negative reviews. She taught the best online class I've ever taken. She was very straightforward of her expectations and accepted late work. She was also very compassionate. Yes, there is a lot of homework but it was very interesting and easy. Tests were easy if you did the homework and one term paper.
Had to choose a class for my BSN program and this class was health humanities so it only felt appropriate! Class was online and only half of a summer semester so it was faster paced but totally doable! Quizzes and discussion questions were simple if you read the material and the material is interesting! Term paper and final werent too bad!
Get ready to read a lot ! Although I must admit I learned plenty. I dont think I will like to take her again. She is a tough grader ! Really tough!
Writing this just as I finished my 8 page term paper and preparing for the final exam in two days from writing this. As of now I have an A in the class but I really dont believe all the effort one puts into just one class is worth it. Too much HW and reading, youll be better off choosing another GE class. This class is hard and stressful. Avoid!
This is one of the nicest professors I've ever taken at this school. She responded to my emails within hours and would send class announcements of reminders with silly or motivational pictures attached. BUT, there was so much reading every week for the discussion boards and exams and a stressful 8 page term paper.
She is awesome and caring, you can reach out to her for anything. The readings were very interesting, discussion boards and quizzes based on the readings were very easy. Tests were based on the readings and discussions. Such a sweet professor. Definitely take her for HUM 310. Research paper wasn't bad either, do your research ahead of time.
Really good professor! helps you when you message her! The lectures were powerpoints but very detailed. Class was interesting and I actually learned about the different art periods
Fitzsimmons is an okay professor. She was understanding about an issue with my final paper. However, there isn't great feedback, her feedback sounds like generic responses she gives to everyone. The class was really interesting and I thought Fitzsimmons chose great material for the course. I feel like I learned a lot about vampires and culture.
Docks points over small errors (ex: using a short quote instead of paraphrasing, citing a relevant article that's not peer reviewed like the CDC website). I thought this class would be fun and informative--it's not. Her "jokes" are dry and the articles she assigns you to read are pages and pages of vacuous fluff.
vampires is fantastic. i used to love this stuff as kid. couln't believe they have a course on it. its like vampires are agendas. its all about issues. relly opened my eyes. feedback is ueseful. i really see this stuff with more critical eye now.
I took this class Health humanities to learn something new. Lotta things i never knew. like getting high hits your gene, gives your kid autism. kinda freaked me out. another was music fixes your brain. I did my paper on bipolar. that was cool.
HUM 303- This class is busy lol her syllabus, notes, and assignment instructions are all busy and can be difficult to follow if you don't pay attn. Responds to emails promptly. Very fun and easy class! Her group project was a headache, but it was not bad at all. Stay on top of her weekly assignments and you are guaranteed to get an A.
Professor Fitzsimmons has great and entertaining lectures, there will be a lot of writing and reading, but the outcome is tremendously entertaining.
Gives homework every week, a discussion post & an assignment. Assignments are from reading. Gives you reading & vids to watch every week. There is a midterm, final exam, & a final paper. The final paper is 8 pages long & the prompt didn't make sense. I wouldn't take her again cause there's too much going in her class.
I took Vampires. Now I'm taking Health humnities. She helps your GPA. U can retake stuff u messed up on
Avoid taking her class. She makes the discussions and quizzes difficult. This paper she assigned; is important than any assignment. Never showed the grade percentage.I was 1 pt close of passing and did nothing.
She is a great professor with a clear class outline and makes her expectations known on the syllabus. There is only one midterm and a final but she prepares you for them with her weekly open book quizzes. The hardest assignment was her minimum 7 page term paper, but she replies quickly in case you need any advice/clarification. Strongly recommend!
Would be a 4 rating if my B+ was an A, 1% off is just brutal for all that work. Kind, caring & encourages you to reach out for help. Doesn't show your grade % until she turns them in to the uni. Weekly Discussion Board responses w/ a ton of reading, lengthy videos. There's a 7 pg. final paper but it wasn't too difficult. You gotta put in the work.
When you take this professor you get a well organized experience and efficient person in charge. She keeps you on track, not the forget you're there ripoff style. I got a lot out of it. There are no hassle guides step by step the way I like it. I'm a management major and enjoyed the group project. She helped me find research.
Took this as a Winter course, it was fast paced and had things due every 2-3 days! There are discussions, SPA's (which are like mini quizzes which you can retake once before midterm), a final paper, midterm & final exam. Discussions are pretty straight forward; your post & reply. She is very quick at answeriing emails and so helpful!! I recommmend
Took this as a summer class and it was very fast paced but overall not too difficult. The assignments were ok, a bit long and boring. The final paper was a bit difficult to write because of the difficult prompt. In the end I got a B on the paper because it was a bit confusing for me. Overall not very connected to the students.
Animals is an interesting course. She is inspiring.
I took this class in the Fall of 2023. She doesn't let you see your grades. Your final paper is long and difficult. Her DB must be 300 words, and your response has to be 200 words which she wants you to know what you are speaking about. This class will be hard if you are not in the medical field.
Lectures are slideshows, you HAVE to buy the textbook (you can't find it anywhere else)to be able to understand her lectures and assignments. Weekly DB posts and quiz, 2 Exams: midterm and final, based on the weekly quizzes and lecture, which are easy and a 5 page term paper which is a bit hard to understand on what you're supposed to write about.
I had this professor for two of my courses. My favorite was Health humanities. I like the way she is so organized. You do a narrative therapy project. Two exams and quizzes.
Class is easy if you do all the assignments and understand what she requires for the essay. Quizzes are based on her module readings. Overall it was a fun online class that made me more aware of different animals.
The professor has a specific system, but if you engage with it, the class works well. Attending lectures and using resources like unstuckstudy can help you succeed. Overall, a challenging but manageable course.
Be aware that you will have to do a lot of reading! There are SPA's (like quizzes), DB posts and replies due every couple of days. You HAVE to read the material to answer the questions. There is a midterm, a final and a five page Narrative Therapy project. The Professor is very responsive, and passionate about the subject. I would take her again.
This professor inspires everybody. You can feel her passion every week. There is a textbook but she explains is clearly and is fair.
