One of the best prof around.
Best prof on campus. keeps the class interested with his jokes. Although, when he makes a mistake on the white board, he will say "I am just testing you". That gets a bit annoying after awhile.
Young guy, fairly rigid marker, fair to the letter and pretty funny. All his notes are online. Definitely a good prof who clearly likes teaching and wasn't roped into it.
He's hilarious, makes going to class easy and somehow you just learn the material without having to study lots.
he is a nice guy, he likes to throw some curve balls on assignments and exams. The marks were always really low because he writes the test to make the curve (lots don't finish). The lab exam gives me nightmares but when he finally curved it in the end I got an A and its not hard to if you are decent in math and stats and study a bit.
Lorme is the best prof arround. His razor wit is halarious and he could easily quit his job to become a comedy write for SNL.
Lorne is by far the best prof I've ever had. He is hilarious and he keeps a potentially really boring class really fun. It was my favourite class! If you have the chance, you should definitely try to take one of his classes
This class could have been deathly boring, but Lorne certainly made it interesting. He does alot of examples in class - but sometimes examples are so strange, they become very confusing to read over. Overall, his notes are clear and if you attend class and do the examples with him, there isn't ahuge need to study.
Definitely one of my fav profs. Very funny and lots of examples. ALL exams are nightmares but he curves them. Sometiims goes through materials very fast. Recommended for all econ folks.
He took a potentially boring econometrics course and made it interesting. You learn a lot due to his teaching style though be wary, his exams are designed to be tough. All-in-all an excellent professor and one I'd highly recommend for 299 and 399.
Easy class with a decent engaging professor. Enjoys hard derivatives, but always a fair marker. Very entertaining. If you must take 299, you ought to take it with him.
VERY funny guy. Keeps class entertained this way. Homework assignments are somewhat hard, class averages are pretty low ,but curved. Definitely made a boring class interesting. The applied project report was useful towards the course, however the final report proved very difficult compared to the 3 prior, practice ones. Overall fun guy, good prof.
Nice guy, easy class if you are good at math. Uses kind of wonky examples - try to note the concept he is demonstrating in each example or else you will go back to your notes about rabbits and buses and have no clue what was going on. Fair exams, fair assignments, kept me awake - what more can you ask for?
reallly good prof and delevivers the subject very clearly
Fairly good prof. It's nice because you do not need to go to the textbook AT ALL! His notes are so great. Posted online. He's generally a nice guy, willing to help out of class. Memorize the concepts only in the notes and you will do fine on the tests. Tests are predictable and fair.
After this couse i would blab out random econ terms in life its awesome! He's hard to find, but once you get help from him he's really helpful! Tests are REALLY wordy, but interesting and witty. Make sure you keep on track with notes and text they don't match(My own regret)
This prof is amazing. So entertaining and you basically learn everything in class. I would totally want him as a prof again.
genuinely sad the class is over. great prof, funny guy, loves teaching. i would definitely want him as a prof again.
Very good prof, you can tell he loves teaching! I personally have no interest in Economics at all, but I enjoyed going to class. He keeps dry material somewhat interesting by using witty examples. Pay attention, keep on top of things and you'll do just fine.
Very entertaining and funny prof. Class was always interesting. He explained the concepts fairly well although it sis seem rushed sometimes (but that may be due to the amount of course material). His tests and assignments are fair. He does not try to trick you and if you study and read his notes, you should easily do well in his class. Recommended!
Great prof. His assignments and exams are very straight forward. He keeps class fun and enjoyable (even though 99% of the time, no one responds to him). Notes are all online and very reliable. Textbook was rarely used. Highly recommended!
Awesome prof, made my day complete. Not to mention he's really funny. Don't buy the textbook, his notes are awesome.
Lorne totally rocked my world. Very helpful when I needed help on my homeowrk assignments, always ready to re-explain a difficult concept. Super funnny and very good notes. Not need for the textbook. I have since gone out of my way to take his classes again. Lorne comes highly recommended.
Lorne is an awesome professor. He delivers useful notes, funny examples, and high quality lecture. His course is not easy, but I realy really recommend it as you will learn a lot. I just don't know why he is still a contract tutor in the UofA. He is better than most of other tutors in ECON department in UofA.
Such a great professor! Econometrics is really not my thing, but this guy made it interesting and I actually understood what was going on ALL of the time. A very excellent prof.
Not much to say. He's straight up the best professor I've ever had. I learned more about calculus and statistics in his econometrics class than I ever did in the actual math/stats classes. Textbook gets a lot of flack, but i loved it too. Its clear concise and not wordy like most texts are so its great if you have trouble getting through readings.
A great prof who taught a course with dull material, but managed to keep the students' focus with his personality and passion. Tests and assignments are easy if you're mathematically inclined.
All over the place while teaching, tries hard to be funny which distracts from the material.
I absolutely love this prof, he is AMAZING. THE BEST I'VE EVER HAD IN ECONOMICS.This course was very boring and there was a lot to learn but he kept it very organized so you remembered important concepts because he made them very memorable with his hilarious personality. You can tell he's very passionate about teaching, and he's very respectful.

After a year of thoroughly confusing or dead boring statistics, calculus and linear algebra, Lorne Priemaza's ECON 299 was a great refresher of concepts as they apply in economics! Very clear in his expectations, open to class interaction and quite funny lecture style! Don't miss the easy bonus marks: I got 101% on my midterm! Woot!
Assignments and midterm are easy, posts notes. Stay on top of the statistics material or else the final will be a nasty surprise. Also, beware the lab exam and buy a copy of SHAZAM to practice on from the get-go: it's an finnicky program and you'll only get two labs to work with it, but it's worth 40% of your lab exam grade.
I love this man. I am not a math person, and was ready to struggle though, but he saved me. He was funny and gives lots of examples. Especially helpful is you go to him, even met with me when he was very ill. The labs and assignments are easy with effort but the lab exam will kill you. I got 38% on the lab final but ended up with a B+. love hi
He is the funniest man alive, unfortunately he is not the best prof :( It's very easy to get a good grade because he gives practice exams and he is very nice marking the paper. You wont learn that much bcs he uses ppt and wont explain concepts thoroughly.
awesome prof. he was probably the best 'teacher' ive had in university. really cared about if the students were learning. good notes and does tons of examples. makes it easy to succeed
helpful!!
Hilarious Professor. He made it easier and enjoyable to stay awake in and economics class. Extremely easy marker for the paper, the project reports only help with your mark. Midterm and final are decent. He gives practice questions for the long answer portion. You have to study in order to do well. Textbook only necessary for clarification.
Great professor. Funny and energetic, makes lectures more enjoyable
Prof Priemaza manages to inject some fun and a lot of clarity into the driest disciplines of economics. Plus, he's really helpful and makes his expectations for all exams and assignments extremely explicit, so there's no ambiguity. If you happen to hate corny jokes, you can always stay home and read his very thorough powerpoints.
very boring prof. jokes are unfunny and akward. knowns very little about his own field if you are a 4th year econ major.
BEST PROF EVER!
He is good at teaching. You will find he always reviews the important example before going to new part. But for me,this course is totally about math economics, I don't like math. He always add more office hours before assignments and exams.
He was such a great prof. His class was fun to attend and he always made the materials funny. Lots of interesting examples. Sometimes crazy but super nice and helpful if you go to his office hours.Hard exams but it was a fun class to attend.
BEST PRO!!!!!!!
By fay the best Econ prof at the U of A. He genuinely wants students to understand the material and explains exactly what on midterms and exams. He went out of his way to come up with interesting, engaging examples. Loved him. Definitely recommend.
Took over at the end of the semester for Gordon Lee after he injured his shoulder. Tough act to follow since Gordon is excellent, but Lorne is too. Very clear and concise notes, powerpoint, posted online. Friendly and helpful, tries to get the students engaged in the class. Starts every class with a review of the previous class, which is helpful.
Great personality, very funny, approachable and helpful. As long as you do the work, you will get an A. Highly recommended
Enthusiastic, fair, and clear. Simple notes with examples and plenty of in class examples. Helpful in office hours and adds more before exams and assignments. Assignments are good practice for exams. No need for the textbook. Great lecturer who wants the best for his students!
One of the very few econ profs that I actually enjoyed going to class. Starts class with a review of what actually happened last class, which is awesome! He's pretty quirky, loves to make awkward jokes. Homework is easy, if you need, he'll help! Exams were easy; the answers in his practice exams are mixed up, but its such a minor issue...
Best choice for Econ 299. Exams are long and I never seem to finish. Really emphasizes how our grades are relative to others. Gives tons of examples. Hard to make time to see him outside of his office hours. Lets you use a formula sheet & you write what you want which is a life saver for this class. Assignments might switch from written to online.
TAKE HIS CLASS. He makes econ 281 so easy. minor assignments . 1 midterm and 1 final. It really helps to go to class and try and learn. it is a long class 1.5 hour. But if you allow him to engage you time will fly by. TAKE HIS CLASS. Do his practice exams!!
Such an awesome prof. No surprises on the exam, if you do the work and do his examples you will know exactly what is on exam. he is also hilarious and makes class bearable.
Lorne was an awesome Prof and HILARIOUS! I would definitely recommend him to anyone. It was a fairly easy class with the practice exams almost identical to the real exams so don't bother buying the textbook. The only problem is that class average was VERY high making a 90 only a B+ so definitely not a GPA booster.
Absolutely awesome prof. He seemed like he was thrilled to be in class every day, his lectures were funny, and he taught with a ton of energy. At the start of class he goes over what you covered the last day in detail and gives examples. Doesn't really tell you what's going to be on the exams, and sometimes his questions are tricky, but great prof.
Great professor for 299. My stats/calc background was pretty weak but he basically retaught me everything and made it easy to understand. Exams are surprisingly easy and he'll give you plenty of help with assignments in office hours. He likes to scare students into thinking this class is impossible, but it's so easy with Professor Priemaza!
Best Prof to take for Econ 299. Easy Midterms and Exams, cares for you, funny and just awesome! Highly recommend!!
You won't want to miss class because he uses amusing examples that help you better apply the concepts. Spends the first half hour of class doing examples which is AWESOME. Definitely recommend. Tests and assignments were very fair - lets you bring a formula sheet. Sad he doesn't teach higher level econ classes.
Highly recommend, uses very easy examples to explain what is taught, and exams are no harder than the examples done in class (tutor chapter questions are way harder than what's on the exam!) he uses identical questions from the tutor review questions on the exam, so make sure you go to the review sessions and put those on your formula sheet.
Great Prof and amazing guy, really helps following along in class when he goes over all the problems as they will show up on tests and assignments. Has the best jokes around town and is all around a great guy that's looking to help students out.
The professor made lots of jokes, trying to keep students focusing on the class. However, you will realized that he certainly lacks depth of knowledge in his area and tends to make straightforward materials complicated. You will also lose marks as long as your answers are different with his, even through yours are better/
Best 299 teacher! Lays out the material in exactly the way he expects you to do the questions on tests and assignments. Makes mundane statistics bearable by using funny examples and adding in personal stories, seriously could not focus if it weren't for that. Tells you exactly what to do to succeed in the course.(exams are easier than he says).
Lorne was awesome. He had great examples and showed you exactly how to do questions. Assignment questions were very similar to exam questions. He will try to scare you by saying the class is hard, but if you have a basic understanding of calc/stats you will be fine (and he reviews all concepts). A little nerdy but he is a good guy.
Biggest piece of advice, show up to class. He doesn't take attendance but he spends the first half hour doing practice questions which are very similar to test questions and the reason I did so well in this course. He's a little bit quirky but it's quite endearing and also keeps examples interesting. Great teacher, take him if you have the chance
Prof was energetic, material was dry. Slides were old and slightly hard to read, presentations were 75 slides long on average and he went through one presentation per class (TOO FAST). Overall good choice, lots of math though.
Lorne was a fantastic instructor, if a little quirky at times. All the material on the exam was covered in class, and specific examples at the beginning of class really helped with comprehension.
Lorne is entertaining enough, and a good prof. His tests were all written and he had a couple assignments as well. I will say that the curve was very high, and I finished with a lower grade than I expected. Put in the effort and you will not have trouble with his class. Show up, because the review he does in class is better than his slides.
The key is to get all the notes, it has a lots of examples and explain of theory. After than, you've done most of the work. But he is a tough grader, be care of any small mistakes, spelling, annotation, graph, writing. Even you call peach as P, which is from the question stem, and it's incorrect in summary, you need to write PEACH.
One of the best if not THE best prof I've had so far! Lectures are easy to follow, interesting and he starts by doing examples in class which are really helpful. Exams were reasonable and even though Im not a huge fan of math, I loved the course.
Great prof! Lectures are good and tests are acceptable. Make sure you write down all the keypoints in your cheating sheet and you will be good to go
He's really nice but he will try and scare you by saying the course is super hard. hes very patient and answers questions as thoroughly as possible. very nerdy and loves his wife ALOT. my second half of the course went online due to the pandemic so that made the course basically impossible to follow as the math concepts were more difficult
He seems really caring of his students. He is quite funny and likable. Gives great feedback. The better you are, the more picky he gets with the grading. He is not exactly generous with his marking.
This is the prof that in my opinion adapted the best to the online setting during COVID-19. Plenty of free marks, amazing lectures, and the course grading is rather relaxed. The group project can be annoying based on your group, but it is fair nonetheless. Fair warning, this is actually a stats course with a hint of econ, not the other way around.
Lorne was a great teacher and lots of fun. The learning and grading criteria is clear and he provides all the resources you need to succeed. He utilized the online format impressively well and delivered the material in bite-sized videos. His comedic yet helpful examples mean his class is never dull. Also the #1 source for economics pick up lines.
He is one of the best profs I have ever had. His lecture videos were fairly short and bite-sized, so we could stay focused, and he would be post videos on practice questions that were very helpful. He clearly showed how the practice questions were to be answered. This class is not really an econ class it is stats. fantastic prof!
Lack of communication with students, unfair evaluation
One of the best Professors I have had so far in my university career. His lectures are bite sized and he makes nerdy jokes which prevented me from getting bored of watching the lectures. The class overall was pretty easy. We had a group paper, assignments, labs and final. The Final I found very fair. Definitely would recommend
Great guy, full of energy. Has delevoped a really thorough grading system which allows the students to save themselves if they miss school for a couple weeks, or forgets a couple weekly tests. It feels kinda hectic with all the assignments every week, but at the same time - it's very consistent, so you know what you have in store for next week
By far the best prof I've had at this school. He made the class content easy to understand, gave loads of examples through the lectures, and was available for questions often. He also has his own website, as well as all of his lectures recorded, which is really helpful if you can't make it to class.
Very funny, extremely engaging, and easily one of the best econ profs at UofA. I wish more profs had his enthusiasm and passion for teaching. 1 problem I had was you didn't know your paper mark before the final, so perhaps making it due a week earlier would be better, but otherwise, very easy class, fair marking, fair exams.
Although this is an easy class, the grading scale for the group assignments is very subjective and one-sided. If you are not a non-native English speaker, you will suffer a lot of loss of points. It's almost like a case of discrimination
What a joy this class was. Lorne is quite entertaining and funny. The exams and assignments were extremely easy. He explained the content very well. Allowed us to bring a hand-written formula sheet to our exams.
Extend the class time (change the syllabus by himself, not following whats on the schedule). Handwriting is hard to read (bad markers)
This was by far my easiest class but despite this our group got a horrible mark for the group paper even though it followed the example paper quite closely. Other comments about the prof discriminating against non-native english speakers seemed to be true in my group's experience too. Most of the comments on our paper were based on grammar.
At the beginning, he would scare you but in fact, it is more like an Excel version of Stat151.this course will be simpler compared to Stat151. You will do well by watching his videos and completing each exercise. Group assignments are very difficult, and it's difficult to get high scores if you're not a native speaker, but the final exam is simple.
Legend. Best prof at u of a. A genuinely kind person who wants you to learn 299 was the easiest course I took in my life.
Lorne is AMAZING with Econ. Was nervous for this course as its calc based, but he scaled up making your grade better. Cares for his students, and makes class entertaining. Take him if you can/
