AMAZING prof and person. He is soooo caring, helpful, and genuine. Can be quite funny too! His lectures are clear as glass, and interactive. He keeps the class interested at 8.30 in the morning! Tests and assignments are VERY fair, and u can definetely do well!

Dr. Sugar is a really friendly, down to earth and nice person. VERY APPROACHABLE if u need help or have a problem. Always stops to see if everyone understands the material. So far, class average was 74% on first test! Best prof for stats!

Professor Sugar is the best! I highly recommend him for Statistics! He makes stats seem like a piece of cake! Exams are fair but study for them! He is very very helpful and goes slow to make sure you understand the concepts.

Dr. Sugar teaches statistical methods with exceptional interest and he is very approachable. While his tests are oftentimes long and involve a student to make parallels between concepts, he teaches with the goal to develop critical thinking. He teaches with a sense of pride - I recommend this prof.

A truly inspirational and amazing professor! Adolescence is one class I will never forget. He really knows how to get students interested at 8:30am. He gets the whole class involved and answers every single question. Always gives students positive feedback. Tests are long but fair.

I would HIGHLY recommend this class it is very interesting, excellent teacher, engages the class, information clear and procise, need to and you will want work hard but it's worth it, can be applied to life experiences with adolescence.

VERY GOOD PROF. You MUST go to lecture to do well on the exams. the written parts are based on lecture stuff that is NOT in the text. For the final i read the first few words in the MC questions and knew the answers. VERY EASY if you attend class.

best prof on the planet or york at least made it comfortable..this is the first i am rating a prof because he deserves it.. the test are easy just study hard, essays not bad at all, presentation format good, marking not bad didn't like my overall mark but that is my own doing...

He is such a nice prof. His lectures are very intresting. YOu have to attend calss and liten very carefully and read the book carefully to do well. I mean its a forth level course, so have to attend tot he matriels in class and the book.

An inspiration for future clinicians, he has been really thoughtful and thought provoking in his discussions and it was a pleasure to take his course if you want to be engaged in psychology.

By far the best Psychology Professor at York. Tests are fair, assignments force us to apply our knowledge to real world situations and he is very approachable and helpful. I wish I would have taken more classes with him.

One of the best prof's at York U! Informative - enjoys teaching and knows HOW to teach. Demonstrates a constant willingness to help. Lectures very clear. Exams very fair (assignments too), but you MUST do your work! Not an easy course albeit an interesting one. This prof should teach other profs how to offer amazing lectures! Amazing!

I really appreciate course 4061 this year. It was a genuine and real pleasure to have studied with him. He really knows his material. Honestly, the best professor I have had. Concise, clear, a teaching pedagogy beyond the common level, tests are good. I highly recommend to take this course. I wish he could have more time to teach more courses.

One of the best professors in the psych department, hands down. Dr. Sugar's lectures are clear & fun to attend. He does 2 therapy sessions in class, which were a great way to see how these approaches work in real life. His tests are fairly written & the essay is a great way to incorporate everything you learned about the different schools.

Dr. Sugar was the best! I loved his lectures because he made them clear, stimulating, and funny. I wish he taught more classes at York because he's so great at teaching and also seems to love what he does. His office hours aren't at great times, but he will definitely try to help you do well if you make the effort to go and see him. Loved him!!

Dr. Sugar's one of the best professors I've had at York, and this course was my absolute favorite course! I found the course content really interesting, and the textbook was easy to understand, and Professor Sugar's lectures were well-structured and interesting; I would highly recommend this course!

Downsizes are pressure to participate in class for participation mark (which he notes in front of everyone); Lots of material to read + tests cover everything -can be overwhelming; Paper is weird & confusing.

Dr. Sugar was by far the most phenomenal professor I've had at York. He was an absolutely inspirational, compassionate person and his lectures never failed to captivate me. His assignments challenged you to think critically and he was always fair in his grading. I will miss waking up to his morning classes.

Honestly, I don't think you can ask for a better course structure, content and assessment. I hate writing papers with a passion, and the instructions in my opinion are vague, so those did bring me down. I would definitely take him again, he ACTUALLY TAUGHT US SOMETHING RELEVANT, finally after 4 years....

Prof. Sugar is the best professor ever! He does not use any electronics/media but will have you engaged the whole 3 hrs. You feel comfortable participating (important for your mark). He is caring and enthusiastic about students doing well. 2 exams are straightforward, only m/c. He marks papers hard but gives good feedback. 1 group presentation.

A very approachable prof who maintains structure throughout the course. Gives very clear lectures, outlines and rubrics in relation to class activities and projects but you have to put in the work. Go to class and read the textbook. Find ways to connect the information to real life.

This prof was incredibly supportive and helpful to students before and during the York strike. He did what he could to keep in touch and help us out. He's a really great guy who cares a lot about his students. I wish he taught more classes.

Professor Lorne was just a delight be a student for. Literally will remember your name, what you said in different classes, and interact with you in ways that make you feel valued and respected as a student. He is truly an amazing teacher and mentor. Be prepared to work hard on your papers though, but have fun with it and be creative.

By far the best prof Ive had at York throughout my undergrad!! Classes are engaging. He is open to hearing whatever his students have to say. Very specific in how he wants things done- follow this to do well! Assignments arent difficult, just do what youre told and youll do well. Definitely a prof that cares.

Lorne acts like a very methodical person. He explains things very clearly, so he gets upset when you don't follow the correct instructions. I love his lectures and I love the content he shares. He is a tough grader in the sense that he insists that you follow the instructions. His feedback is very clear, so it allows you to improve.

Definitely the best prof I've had at York. Even online the lectures are interesting and he has great examples. He definitely cares and wants to help you just have to make time to talk to him. He has clear grading criteria that he tells you about and if you follow them, you can do really well. I learned so much. I wish he taught more classes.

So great that even during the pandemic he lectured live instead of sending pre-recorded lectures. He is clear about what he wants on tests and papers but that helped me do well. Such a great professor, I wish I could take more courses with him. He explains the assignments very clearly so if you follow the rubric, you'll be good. He keeps his lectures interesting and you'll definitely do better on the tests if you go to them, although he did record his lectures and send them after every class.

One of the best profs I've had in psychology. Super clear about the material (his lectures alone are enough to understand 90% of the assigned things). Just listen exactly to what he wants for exams and assignment and you'll do great. Super accessible and willing to help as much as you need too!

Dr. Sugar is the best professor I have ever had in my entire 4 years of BA. He explains everything so properly. I was kinda intimidated by him tho. You just need to follow his guidelines and you'll be fine. For exams, 100 questions each which is mostly from the lecture notes and textbook so pay close attention. For the rest, just follow his rubrics

I had an excellent experience with Dr. Sugar. The course might seem a bit intimidating at first due to its agenda, but if you follow his rubric and seek feedback, you'll succeed. Overall, it's a well-structured, organised, and challenging course that still allows for the joy of learning.

Hands down, one of my favourite profs at York! Dr. Sugar made this course so engaging; it's the only class of my undergrad where I was actually building practical skills. If you're looking for an easy pass class, this is not it. But if you actually want to learn and grow as a professional, he is the best and will be a prof you remember long after.
