Materials are very hard in this course, but she's an alright professor
tough! really tough
ABSURD quoted "25 hour" project... all manual transactions. Word to the wise work alone on this project if you dont want to be accused of copying. She hands out zeros.. and a 0 on this project will likely mean you will fall out of the program. Little discussion about any grades she gives
Very tough course. Be prepared to spend a lot of time studying for tests and doing the projects. You would think she is a nice person but she can be insensitive. Very strict.
She's a great teacher. Gives tons of examples and explains everything very thoroughly. drops 2 quizzes and HMWKs. The exams are not that difficult, just make sure you review the practice exams and go to the review sessions and you will do fine. If he is available take the recitation with Nathaniel Carbarey and make sure you stay away from Olivia
Metzger is an auditor. plain and simple. she is very organzied and willing to help. the material is hard to teach. Projects are time consuming but easy, she is at least very fair.
This class is black and white material. Understand the online hw and you will do well. MC in book sometimes show up on the test! I only wish she would have related the material to actual experiences she had. Seems intimidating but She is VERY helpful when you go in for help. I wish I hadn't waited for the last month!
This is a junior level accounting course. It’s going to be harder than classes you’ve taken in the past. Book dry.must read in order to do well. Exams –MC, fill in blank, matching, etc. Huge project – but have month to complete. She is really nice and helpful. Students might call her bad because they’re not expecting or used to working hard.
Ppt slides render textbook useless. Save ur $, you WILL need it for SUA & Peachtree. SUA is a 4-person-group-manual-accting project. Don't procrastinate w/ projects, especially SUA: very time consuming. Don't let material nor Metzger intimidate u. She is fair, but keeps you on your toes. This class is a cold "welcome to the accounting program".
READ THE BOOK! Text really isn't difficult. If you just devote an hour a week to finish the chapter, you are guaranteed an A. She also gives you 3 chances to get 100% on homework. Recitations are fast, quizzes are easy. Loved her class.
Reads write off the powerpoint slides. Doesn't really teach. Attendance is mandatory. Doesn't give enough time on the mid-term at all or final. Will give zeros for anything close to cheating so watch out for that. There is mandatory h.w once a week and quizzes are pretty tough. Make sure you buy the updated book too for the class.
Very straight forward on how things are done, never bought the textbook and still got an A in the course. Make sure you re-do all problems before you take her tests. Went and did her night class, she never held us the whole 3 hours and always offered a break. (night class has no recitation)
I took her class this summer and i got an A- in the class. She was very clear on informations and i love the way to teaches. Exams and final are super easy as long as you do the practice exams. It's almost identical to the actual ones. SUPER EASY and i did not even spent a lot of time studying for her class. Online HW are easy. Defin. take her agai
Took this class over the summer and it was a pretty easy class. Very straight forward about what was on the tests and was very helpful. I would recommend
One of the best professor I've ever had. Very clear on the subject, just read the textbook and attend the class. Give 80% attention and you'll be fine. If you go to her office hour with the previous exam you will most likely receive an A. Class isn't hard.
I loved her. She was very clear about what was gonna be on the test. easy to understand and very hellpful if you need it. i took her over the summer and i got an A-. it was pretty easy.
Truly a great Professor, she is the best professor I have had in college. She will teach you what you need to know but she make you work for it. The projects are time consuming and stressful but they also teach you a lot. Work hard and pay attention, the stuff you learn there will help you later on. Good Luck!
SUA project takes around 40 hours that you begin right away, very stressful. Everything after that starts getting easier. 2 exams easy, 3 projects easy excluding SUA, few assignments, weekly quizzes. You will learn a lot in this class. Keep up with everything its easy to lose points. Great professor.
She is just not very good to say the least. I took her 311 class and I am taking her 621 class now and she uses the same slides, who does that? She might teach you like 5% of the things she tests on in a semester and you will have to learn the other 95% from the book and online. Get ready to teach yourself because its a required course.
SUA is 50hours and is the hardest part of the class. Start it early and don't slack on it. Everything after that is cake, assignments, the other projects, and the exams aren't bad. Don't buy the book. Everything you need is from the projects and her slides. Pray your TA will answer questions about the SUA because Metzger will not.
Start the SUA immediately, DO NOT wait until this last minute. If you can, pick a reliable partner. Try to attend every class/lab to get the full 25 points for participation. Tests are fairly easy and really only require memorization. Don't bother buying the book. She and her TA are both responsive with questions on all projects.
The SUA Is the project that will require the most work. 40-50 hours. Not bad though. Make sure you never hand in an assignment late or you'll get a 0 without further discussion. Friday, Lab quizzes are random so be prepared. Only 2 tests. Projects aren't so bad and assignments aren't bad. Her lectures aren't bad and she's funny. Don't buy textbook
The course is very material heavy and moves at a fast pace. If you are dedicated to ready the book and can keep up, it will be no problem
If I'm being honest, this class was average. The SUA, like everyone has said, takes so much of your time but it's not bad if you start early and take your time. The Sage 50 project is very easy, especially if you did well on the SUA. Her lecture slides are lengthy, and there's no practice exams but if you study the notes they're not too bad.
This class was very interesting. The SUA in the beginning was a bit tough but a good learning experience. You definitely need to make sure you are on top of things and that you study very specifically for the midterm and the final. It will definitely improve your skills with Excel and new programs like IDEA.
The SUA project at the beginning of the semester is a lot and I recommend picking a good partner and even working ahead of the schedule she suggests so you have time to go to office hours for help. You'll learn a lot of Excel skills in this class and are primarily the focus of quizzes. Tests have a lot of info on them, but study guide is extensive
Class lectures are useless, so you would have to learn everything yourself. she thinks everyone is a prodigy, and expect them to understand everything. This eyebrow-less professor has very high expectations, with no curves on grading. UNAVOIDABLE, so get ready to get hit! I pray for everyone's safety <3
Professor Metzger makes it very clear about what she expects from assignments and projects. The SUA is a difficult project but the TAs and herself are willing to answer questions. The course also focuses on Excel and IDEA. Yes, her quizzes are very challenging; practice and it will pay off.
This professor was the best professor I have ever had in UB in my entire accounting career. I never went to class and i still managed to get 90's in the quizzes and Exams. Attendance is not mandatory and she is very lenient towards a majority of the students. She remembers everyone of her student's names because they always show up late to class.
The class is not tough if you study well on your own. I read the textbook most of the time and I got good grades without paying attention in lectures. Show up to lectures though, for attendance. Lorrie's lectures are useless and not very informational. She is also rude and will not give direct answers to your problems. Took this class in Fall 2019
Had her for 8 AM class, awful experience. GET READY FOR SUA, it will literally take days and weeks to complete. Better find a good mate or you will find your self alone in the library the whole night and many nights before the due. Really tough grader and she always makes easy material into tricky questions. NO CURVE OR ROUND UP
Metzger is a great professor. Don't skip class, she takes attendance and her lectures are actually pretty interesting. START THE SUA IMMEDIATELY AND PICK A GOOD PARTNER!! IDEA project is easy, just make go over it multiple times and make sure you didn't miss anything. Midterm is easy, final was actually really tough. Overall a great class and prof.
This Professor has no sympathy.
I do not want to take her ever again. She is an absolute tough professor.
Awful professor. Would not reccomend
She is not worth your money.
Not very nice, hard exams, doesn't teach, GOOD LUCK
In the beginning, I thought she was a decent teacher. As time went on, she became worse and worse. Lecture was empty 5 weeks. Her "teaching" is cramming slides and reading them off to you in class. She puts forward more effort to find people who cheat rather than put effort towards teaching material. Try to find a better professor for this class.
She absolutely sucks, spends more time on finding students who than actually teaching, her classes and lectures are just her reading the slides.
At first I thought she was a good prof, as time went on not so much. START THE SUA PROJECT ASAP- it will take you WEEKS to complete. also find a good partner. she's a very tough grader and gives points off for the TINIEST thing, so try and follow all submission requirements exactly. She takes attendance but lectures aren't helpful for the tests
Lecture are horrible, very boring and bland just her reading slides straight out the text book. She i so concerned about cheaters that she makes everything extremely difficult for the rest of the class. Pick any other teach except for Metzger. I also know a handful more of students who feel the same way about her.
Exams are wayy harder than the quizzes and the textbook. She doesn't teach us the material but expects us to know it.
Lorrie Metzger has been awful. She gives the driest lectures, hard quizzes, and nearly impossible test. She doesn't give adequate resources for studying for these exams in which case you guess on 10-15 questions. How she handled the covid situation is very reflective of her true character as a professor. Avoid at all cost if you can. Good luck
One of the worst classes I have ever taken. Exams and quizzes are very hard. Course material is barley taught.
What a terrible professor. She is giving her students an extremely hard time despite the stressful situation all of us were thrown into due to COVID-19. She has no mercy whatsoever. Instead of being paranoid about students cheating, it would be extremely beneficial to reconsider her style. Most of us are suffering. Avoid her at all cost!
Class wasn't horrible in the beginning, but once we moved to distance learning everything changed. Gave a midterm that was "multiple choice" yet every question required at least 5 mins of calculations. Made the quizzes impossible because everyone "cheated" on the OPEN NOTE midterm. Course material barely taught, recitation more helpful than class.
She made the class a living nightmare because kids cheated on an open book test. How do you cheat on open book tests? I dont even know what that means. People suffering because of covid and we see how ruthless she is as a professor. This is a tough time and she makes the class living hell. kids have way easier professors at other colleges. NO FAIR
Friends from other colleges have such an easy accounting professor who lets them use whatever to pass exams . Kids get 90s all the time at Baruch. Metzger is the complete opposite. She looks to catch kids cheating and tries to fail kids. Tries to catch cheating on quizzes, exams, projects and doesnt teach anything good. HORRIBLE PERSON and PROFESSOR.
She has the special talent in ruining your grades. Slides are boring, so boring that I went on youtube to find the exact same slides taught by another professor 5 years ago. Final Exams recorded through Webcam(stare at my face for 2 hrs) Legit a joke but too bad this course is needed for my major. I can dedicate a whole new Tiktok just for this.
Worst teacher ever. She is full of herself. She thinks everything she is a privilege including her presence. Her lecture are extremely boring and useless. Recitations are helpful because its not taught by her. Exams are extremely unfair and hard because it doesnt correlate with anything we did throughout the semester.
If you work hard, study, it is an easy A. MGA202 is a weed out class. If you are not smart, this will be hard for you, if you try, expect a B or higher. only need a 91 to get an A
Not the best professor but she fixed the problem with the midterm because people were cheating and many can't finish on time. Overall, I am happy with my grade.
Honestly just a rude professor. Gives guidelines for excel project then takes points off for things not specified and gives careless responses when emailed. Didnt curve the final (average 74.6) but did for the midterm (8.5 pts) with about the same average? If you can avoid her do, I never attended class cause class is so boring. Rely on connect.
She accuses people of cheating and then would apologize a couple of days afterwards saying that she was wrong. Personally had a severe anxiety attack on top of already being extremely stressed because of the current situation. Her class would have been better if she focused on teaching instead of spending most of her time looking for cheaters.
I do not recommend enrolling in MGA202 with Professor Metzger, you will soon realize that she is possibly the worst professor I've ever had at UB. Her true character was revealed when the COVID situation broke out. She went psychotic after people cheated on an OPEN NOTE midterm. Curved it, and made the final Lockdown browser and didn't curve.
Worst professor at UB. She's so full of herself and does not care about her students at all. Avoid her if you can but if you can't, make sure you depend on the lecture slides and Connect when you study. Class itself isn't hard but Metzger still made the experience terrible.
I would take some of the MGA 202 reviews with a grain of salt. While she mightve had a bad experience with this section, she is usually much better in her smaller mga 311 course. If you are gonna be a junior in her class in the fall then dont fear, she was great for that class. High expectations but she knows what shes doing.
Accused students of cheating on an open book midterm. spent more time trying to prove people cheated rather than actually teach students accounting. Handled distance learning terribly. TAs did most of her job by teaching the actual material while she spent her time trying to prove everyone cheated. Do not take MGA202 with her if possible
Honestly the class itself isn't that hard. You should get an A as long as you study. The professor, on the other hand, has NO mercy whatsoever. Love the course but despise the professor.
She was absolutely terrible, even before the pandemic. After the pandemic her actions show you how much she actually cares about her students: not much. Incredibly inadequate, barely answers emails, punished us for doing better than other previous classes by not giving us a curve on our final even though the average was the same as the midterm??
Very rude and quite the opposite of caring professor. Avoid if you can.
doesnt care about her students, one of the worst prof I've seen at my time at UB. its an extremely hard class where the only bright side was the recitation bc at least you kinda learned something unlike her useless lectures. the homework is so hard and you have to teach urself everything. the exams are hard and she offers minimal help.
She doesn't care about the students' acceptance of the course. She's not worth your money.
She tried to say I cheated and she was too tough on students during the covid situation. How it was handled was awful would not recommend this class gave me anxiety.
Metzger is by far the best professor I have had here in the accounting program. Don't be fooled by the reviews for MGA 202, many people cheated on the online midterm. She has experience in forensic accounting so its no surprise she caught them. She remembers every students name and truly cares. Her class has been an inspiration for my career.
One of the worst professors at UB. TA teaches the material, while she reads off slides that have nothing to do with the projects and assignments. Expects you to remember EVERYTHING for the midterm and final, instead of giving out a practice exam. SUA project was horrible and took too much time; online students received little to no help.
Class was not hard imo lol. She tests entirely based off her lectures and lecture slides that she gives to you. I bought the book and never used it. The SUA was hard and time consuming but you have plenty of time and resources to know what's going on and figure it out. She responds to emails in a timely fashion and stays after class to answer q's.
Terrible professor. I don't think she could care about the students any less than she already does.
Very heavy workload: Two homework assignments a week and Weekly Quizzes
1st time I have to rate a professor so you already know how terrible she is. AVOID HER AT ALL COST. Obsessed with catching cheaters during her online terms. HAVE NO MERCY AND NO CURVE. Spending more time trying to catch students cheat than spending time to teach properly. The most terrible and ruthless prof I have ever taken in my life.
Man just read other comments you will know issa real thing. She was my only choice so I had to take her otherwise, BYE.
Honestly, she doesn't teach. The only reason why I'm not failing this class is because the TAs actually teach the course.
Does not care about students. Lectures are pointless to attend as she reads word for word off the slides. Makes you buy connect. Technology or your TA does the grading, lazy. Tells you what will be on the quiz: very helpful. Won't round up a 91.7 to a 92 for an A?? You teach yourself and I always always learn from the TA - never her.
She is a terrible professor. No slack in her class. No remorse towards students. I would stay away
Class gets dragged out- she'll spend the entire class going over 3 slides with simple concepts. Group projects were hard but I felt like I learned a lot. The individual project was pretty simple. Assignments and quizzes are easy. Tests are super-specific for no reason. Make sure you pay attention in lecture and her examples.
She's awful I wouldn't recommend her class. She reads exactly from her slides so there's no point in attending her lectures. Her weekly quiz are super easy because of the TAs. Told us to prepare for the midterm from quizes and practice problems but DIDN'T ASK ANYTHING FROM THEM!!!! the midterm was extremely challenging and the average was 65%.
I would not consider this class hard but it is pointless to attend lecture. Professor Metzger just reads off of the lecture slides. Only thing good is that it saves me time from attending the actual lecture. Other than that the content is clear all you need to do is practice to pass.
65% of your grade depends on how well you can perform on the midterm and the final so be prepared to be buried in seemingly meaningless weekly quizzes and homeworks for weeks. Her response to our class doing poorly on the midterm was to make our weekly quizzes harder and take 10 POINTS OFF OF YOUR QUIZ if you have to borrow her calculators.
30% percent midterm and 35% final the quizzes and hws don't even matter if you cant pass these two exams, no practice tests given cause she does not believe in them and thinks students should rather go through everything which we did for the midterm and it looked nothing like the hws or quizzes, the quizzes had no mc but the midterm did, don't take
Tons of work but its pretty easy. But her lectures are so bad. She reads off the slides that are made by the textbook company and the examples are all from the textbook. The TAs will teach you more than she does in class.
Her quizzes are nothing like the exams. She reads directly from the slides that it's pointless to even go to lecture. She barely curves her test and they are worth a total of 60 percent of your grade based on the final and midterm. Overall extremely difficult and a poor professor, save your grades and take a different professor!
Cannot stress enough how little I recommend professor Metzger. She's incredibly full of herself and thinks that we should bless the ground she walks on. The lectures are useless as she reads word for word off of PRE-MADE SLIDES from the textbook. Consistently talks down to students, the TA's teach you 10x more than Metzger ever will.
Tests are way too difficult and a 12 point curve was applied for the midterm. You will learn more from the TA's than you will in her class. Choose your TA's wisely Niko the goat. All she does is read the slides that are taken directly from the textbook word for word. You are better off not showing up to class and teaching yourself course material.
Very hard exams but her curve makes up for it.
She is horrible. Stopped going to lectures because I taught everything to myself anyways. The TA's even say she doesn't know how to teach. Just be prepared to teach yourself everything and take an extremely unfair midterm and final. Homework's take 3-5 hours every week for a tiny percentage of overall grade and she doesn't believe in practice tests
If you can take any other professor do it. Metzger ruins the whole class by reading off the slides during lecture and you're better off just looking over it and learning the material on your own. The tests are a complete change up from the homework and quizzes, whole new format. Pay attention in recitation its the best notes you'll get.
THIS CLASS IS RIDICULOUS! the midterm and final are basically like 100% of your grade. the homework and quizzes barely make a dent and will not help your grade. never taken a harder midterm and half the entire class failed it. she doesn't give practice tests so you have no idea what you're walking into. professor likes seeing students fail!!!
do not take her class. try to take it with a different teacher. the final is worth 40 percent of grade and the midterm was 35. quiz and homework barely help you. she reads off the slides in class. she told us on the first day of class that only about 50% of people are expected to pass her class. so many people failed the midterm. she doesn't care.
This class is 75% testing, I believe that it is unfair to have such a high emphasis on testing rather than actual work done.
Got an A but she sucks.
Not too much to say about her. Never really had any 1 on 1's with her since my class was so big. As long as you pay attention and put in the effort you'll do fine.
Try to take this class only if you have to. Final and midterm are worth 75% of the grade so you fail with a less than excellent performance on both. Can't speak on her character since I didn't have any 1v1s. You should get close with your TA if you are someone who needs help. Overall fair, you're grade depends on how much you study for the 2 tests.
personally, i think she is a good professor but I think she likes to torture her students. she blatantly picks favorites and since I was not one of them I constantly got small points taken off for no reason. idea project being given over break is unfair considering she knows 80% of her students dont have access to the software over break.
Overall I think Professor Metzger is a great professor. She offers additional office hours when there are upcoming projects, and always makes it known she is there to help. There are two huge projects, one took 50 hours of my time and the other took about 8. This course is difficult but not impossible by any means.
The course overall is odd because the content is common sense but it's made so complicated because the professor goes so in depth with each thing. You for sure want to know some people in the program first before picking a partner for the SUA. project takes 6 weeks to finish. She tries to trick you on exams but the class HARD, just a lot of effort.
Projects are difficult, but if you attend office hours you should be okay. Definitely has a "tough love" teaching approach, but she cares about her students. She is also very accessible outside class.
Awful professor. She made the simple content hard on the exam and gave a low attendance grade without any reason.
She writes in one of my grade feedbacks "based off your history, this is why you received this grade." Honestly don't know why she would ever write this it felt rude to me. If you are an accounting major, you will have to take her class. She can just be too brutal and honest. Have no time to breathe when working on the SUA project.
If you want a lazy and careless professor, I suggest you take any one of Lorrie Metzger's classes. TAs do all her work, going to class is pointless cuz she drones off a slide. In accounting 2 tests dominate your grade (that's fine), she provides the most objectively useless study material you can imagine to help you through it.
Lecture is completely useless. The only time you will learn anything is during weekly recitations from a TA. 75% of grade is from Midterm and Final Exam, but she refuses to release any useful study materials to prepare for the test. Have no idea why UB pays her to teach the only 202 class because anyone else would be more effective than her.
Avoid enrolling in her class; she's widely regarded as one of the rudest and least helpful professors at UB. Her teaching methods are unclear, and her assignments seem disconnected from the exam material. Expect to dedicate at least six hours a week to her homework, which often feels unrelated to the course content.
Evil is all I can say. Evil emanates from her presence; a mere glance reveals the darkness within. Avoid making eye contact, lest you witness the demons lurking within her.
Hard to listen too. boring. Would not take again
Worst Professor at UB, rude, mean, and always has the worst attitude possible. Very condescending, will try to make students fail and do bad. Does not want to see students do well!! BEWARE.
Homework is connected to the material, questions are just in a different format sometimes. DO the practice Excel problems, they help. Use the "Exam Coverage" documents as study guides. She does offer a few practice questions for tests, plus you get a formula sheet for both. I'm not an accounting major, I don't like accounting, and I still got an A.
Don't take her. She got mad that 50 people were still taking the final with 10 minutes left 35% for midterm 35% for final and the rest is just homework that don't matter She sucks, plain and simple
Terrible, just terrible. The whole lecture was basically her reading off the slides and providing examples. After the first three classes I stopped going and was able to teach myself the course. There are weekly quizzes during recitation. The TAs goes over the week's topic during recitation. The Midterm and Final are each worth 35% of your grade.
Worst professor at UB, the rudest human being I have ever come across. Everyone at UB hates her, all the other students did not even approach her with their problems because she is not approachable at all.
Professor Metzger is not nearly as bad as you would think from reading these reviews. She's good at teaching the material and cares about student success. This class is not that hard so don't be scared. The SUA is a challenge but very doable, IDEA project is extremely easy. Only problem is exams are tough and she doesn't really prepare you for them
Bad professor, very rude, lots of homework (6 hours a week minimum), very condescending behavior. I am not sure how she is still a professor at UB. Not kind or approachable, she should not be in any of these positions that she has. I hope UB can get a hint from all these reviews and our course evaluations. Take someone else for your own sake.
UB should get the hint and replace her by now, idk if they value the opinion of students though.
Had her for MGA 202 and 311. Both were tough, with test averages around 75. MGA 311 was overwhelming with SUA, Excel, IDEA, quizzes, and two final exams back-to-back. She's strict with attendance, unapproachable, and unhelpful, but she does respond to emails quickly. Overall, the courses felt unnecessarily stressful.
Tough class with a professor who lacks enthusiasm. Lectures feel like reading slides, but the recitations with TAs are much more helpful. Use Unstuckstudy and other online resources to supplement the course material.
I am still taking this class but she is not super helpful, you will need to teach yourself but the material is not the worst.
If you could try not to pick her, or else get ready to work hard
The course material is not that hard, but this prof. cannot teach it for her life. She rushes through all of the chapter slides in one 50 minute class, then she rushes through the practice problems the next class. You are better off going to office hours, the TA's are great. Take a different prof. if you can. I got stuck with this one unfortunately
rushes through all the slides. you end up teaching yourself. had better luck learning the materials when with the TA's.
dont go to lectures
Her class is horrible. She doesn't teach, she just talks off the slides. Ta's are so helpful. Lectures are pointless, sometimes I skip to go to office hours. She also seems really condescending by how i've heard her talk to other students. I teach everything to myself and have gotten 100s on the quizzes. 2 tests and final. Kristina is an amazing ta
This is one of the worst professors I have had. Today in class she went on a rant about making grilled cheese instead of talking about the class. We recently had a exam and the average was 70 instead of reviewing that she talked about her favorite type of cheese. The professor also ends class like 10 minutes early and rushes through 50 slides.
Not very good at teaching. Voice is dull.
Lectures were not engaging, was a very melancholy when teaching. Learned more working with the TA's than attending lecture. Would not recommend.
Worst Professor I have ever had. She made me drop out of my major because she would not round a 0.2 and also she is biased and lowkey racist. IDK how she is still teaching with this many awful reviews.
Horrible professor made me lose my interest in accounting.
She is the worst professor Ive ever had. Why does 75% of our grade are from test. Only 16 people got a 100 on the midterm and she think that is good when she teaches over 450 students. Worst professor at ub, she needs to be fired.
The class itself is really not bad. Just a lot of memorization and math. I started the semester thinking I wasn't going to be able to do it but it really was not bad. I taught myself everything. The professor is really not good, she's rude and doesn't teach. The ta's carry the class. I appreciate Kristina. Along with Jessica, James, and Rachel.
She gets a bad rating but she is nicer to the accounting students. If you go to her office hours or ask questions she will help you with anything and wants you to do well
be prepared to put in work outside of class smart books are long and so are homework, you're gonna have to study
