Great Professor, he makes you read these short storys. Then you think of a question to make up of the story you read, then answer it yourself. There are some boring storys you have to read but its not that bad. He will help you out if you need it. Very nice teacher not picky at all like some other teachers out there. I strongy suggest you take him.

Lou is Awesome! I would take another class with him again. The class is easy to keep up with and there's not a lot of homework other than a few writing assignments. You do a lot of class discussions which can be fun if you have a good class.

Simply one of the best teachers i've ever had. Mr. Baltman is a great person, and he treats students as pure individuals, not as young useless people. I suggest taking his class, plus he loves to hand out good grades.

I LOVE LOU!! He is such a great person and very understanding. His assignments are simple but you learn at the same time. He enjoys "socratic seminars" or debates, and it's fun to watch his reactions to everyone's comments.

Best teacher at Macomb. Gives work assignments, short papers, 'socratic' questions and seminars, and reading assignments. Very fair, no tests. Treats students with respect and has a wonderful sense of humor. Keeps everything interesting. Bodacious for an older guy. Macomb needs to find more professors and instructors like him. A+ !!!!

I loved this shakespeare class. He was very helpful and he was the cutest old man. He was very interested in Shakespeare. We even were able to watch movies to make us better understand. There were a few papers but he was an easy grader. I loved him!

Sweet, easygoing guy. Most classes are comprised of discussing current events, but there are some easy assignments and papers. Will help a student if they need it. Great English teacher!

Really easy nice man. If you don't like to speak in front of people not a good choice but if you do this is the class for you. Reading must be done but it is easy and assignments are always your opinion. No exams or quizzes ever!

One the best english teacher at MCC in South Campus.

Professor Baltman is a good professor if you are looking for a class that has a lot of discussion & participation. The only reason someone would not take Lou is if he/she needed help developing writing skills. Lou does this very little because he assumes you already know how to write well. Overall, he was a great professor and I enjoyed the class.

Fun class. Alot of homework, but is very fair with grading. Just do your work. Very helpful teacher!! I will take him for other classes.

Prof. Baltman is a man of courage as he is what a teacher is suppost to be. He's teaches from his heart, not from his wallet. Show up, do your work, put your heart into it, and there's your A. He's one of the greats!

Prof. Baltman deserves the ustmost respect. He cares about each and every student and their success. He even offers a scholarship for students at macomb===he puts his money where it helps...he truly cares. A better english instructor will not be found anywhere! I recommend him highly for all.

I'm rating Prof. Baltman for the second time because I had for two classes and he deserves many thanks. I would take him for all my English classes if he taught them. He puts so many teachers at M.C.C. to shame. There is no other to compare to his caring compassion for students. I consider him more than just a teacher, he's a mentor. He's human!

Lou is the kind of professor that makes you want to walk out of class and switch to an English Major. I ended up taking every class he taught just to have him again :)

This semester I had British literature with Baltman and it is my third classe with him. He is simply the best professor at M.C.C. hands down! He gives away two private scholarships a year,what other teacher do you know who does that? He is full time and has great office hours and will assist in anyway possible. He even proofs my Wayne State papers.

AWESOME TEACHER! I had him for comp 2 and classic american lit. He was the easiest teacher I've ever had and you could tell that he loved to teach. I'm taking another of his classes in the fall if possible even though I don't need anymore english credits :D

British Literature class was fun! You read books, write papers, & do one sorcratic. There is alot of interaction in his class which makes it enjoyable. The class was alot of work, but well worth taking. Best teacher at Macomb! I took him for Comp II and loved that class. Would love to take more classed with Mr. Baltman! A+ teacher!

Also had him for 1210 and made sure to take him again. He's the best teacher I've had so far. He keeps the class interesting and fun. He made me feel more comfortable and encouraged me after returning to school after all these years, but he was just as engaging with the younger students.

I also had him for 1210 and made sure i signed up again for 1220. He is a great teacher. In class we do socratics and talk about stories we read. Very easy class. We write some and do a few essays throughout the courses, but he makes the class enjoyable. Best english classes so far. I will definitly take more of his classes.

Great teacher

It was an definitely easy class, but it was defintely not necessary to go every day. I would hardly even call it british literature because you spend more time on socratics than you do the actual novels. It felt like a current events class actually. So, if you are interested in british lit, I would recommend another teacher.

Lou is a great person and will help you with anything, not that you'll be needing it. This was one of the easiest classes I have ever taken. pretty much just read 4-5 novels and write papers on them, he grades very easily. Class time is all socratic and doesn't really focus on the books, but he gives you ideas for papers. great!

He is an AWESOME teacher. He is kind of old and hilarious at times. Class is fun to go to I actually looked forward to it and enjoyed it-it's just discussions the whole time. Take him!

Mr. Baltman is THE professor to take at MCC for any English class. He is extremley laid back, kind, considerate and WILL NOT put you on the spotlight if you don't like to talk. We ARE RECOMENDDED to TALK but he doesn't force anyone to. Each class period it is madatory to attend. He does deduct points off your grade if you skip class with no excuse

Excellent professor who encourages you to write. He explains mistakes. He makes class very fun and comfortable. He answers any questions. We read short stories & wrote our opinion on the story in one page. Also, wrote 4 longer essays with only one MLA style. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! A++ teacher!

Such a kind, considerate, respectful, helpful, smart, AMAZING professor. I just wish that all professors could be like him. You can tell that he really cares for his students that "try". I don't believe students who slack off should deserve his kindness but he still gives it even to those. I just wish all professors at mcc could b like him. But. :(

Very knowledgeable professor who will help you with any questions and papers. His classroom setup makes students feel very comfortable. The best professor I have taken at Macomb south campus! I received a great English education from this professor and enjoyed learning at the same time! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Mr. Baltman is super sweet and nice. You literally do nothing in this class, and write about 4 papers all semester. Take this class if you want a less stressful schedule because this class does not take much work at all.

I thought Professor was a fairly easy teacher. Super nice and very considerate. The only thing I wasn't fond of was the Socratics where every class we have to talk in the class. But he's a great professor and an easy A

He is very friendly, he will help you out if you have a problem that causes your paper to be late, we used the book a lot, but he's an easy grader as long as he can tell you tried. There are many papers to write but he sometimes gives re-write opportunities.

He was so sweet and really encouraged class participation, but made everyone feel very comfortable in his class. he was a fair grader and wanted to people to write with emotion. He lets you redo papers if you are not happy with your grade and he does take attendance. You won't regret your class with him. :

The best professor at Macomb. He is so kind and very understanding. He doesn't believe in tests. "We're not in elementary school anymore." We read three books and wrote papers on them. That's how we got our grades. Usually only two pages were required- four pages at most. We sat in a circle and had socratic discussions for every class.

Baltman is a sweet old man who is very welcoming. You read a couple books and write papers on them. No testsquizzes! Easy grader and easy class. Classroom is formatted where we sit in a circle every period and have Socratic discussions (topic is given and each student gives their input) He encourages participation but you get comfortable quickly.

He was an amazing professor! I missed a lot of days and he was always there to help me stay on track. No tests! Ever. Had Socratic Circles almost every class period.

Interestingnice class

A lot of class discussions, everyone must talk and lead one. Either 3 1 page essays or one bigger paper a week. Gives out schedules, so pay attention to due dates. Easier grader. Takes late work. Likes creativity and allows you to write about other stories if you don't like the ones he assigns.

BEST PROFESSOR AROUND! i absolutely enjoy his class so much i am taking 1220 just because.. You will walk in not knowing anyone in the room and by the end of it the whole class is one big family. Easy class to pass, and he is negotiable with everything. if there is one professor you take at macomb, let it be him! nicest man EVER.

I absolutely loved this class and this professor. It felt more like a book club with the occasional paper. Every class was basically just one big discussion and everyone had to participate and speak. I'm a huge history nerd and this class was focused around that stuff too. He graded all papers wonderfully and allowed you to make up poor grades.

If you participate, you'll have no problem in this class. He's soft spoken but knows what he's talking about.

Every class has a Socratic discussion on a varying subjects. Everyone must participate. No tests but a couple papers. He was a very easy teacher and a very nice guy.

He's a really easy grader. Lets you redo work for a better grade if you got a C on it. Accepts late work. Allows up to five absences. No tests. Two big papers a semester and a lot of short papers. Must participate in class. There's a socratic circle every week, and you will lead one of them.

Excellent professor. Encourages openness and discussion. Hears everyone's opinion, and is ready, willing, and able to help people with problems. Definitely would take his class again.
