Refuses to answer questions. Will never go back 5 minutes to explain anything. Tells students if they need help or have a question, "go to the math center people".
Very unhelpful. He ended up giving a take home at the end of the quarter since hardly anyone was going to pass his class. Doesnt like to explain how he is doing the problems.
As a recent former student of his, i don't agree with the other comments at all. He does move a little fast, but he gives enough example on the board for you to go by. Those who have a A or B in the class doesn't have to take the final exam.
He weeds out the class during the 1st 1/2 of class after everyone drops its easy.He doesn't want anyone thats not serious. No final if u have a A or B. I liked him and thought he was a good teacher. i understand math though i go to engineering school.
I agree with the weed out comment. This teacher was extremely unhelpful and seemingly unwilling to help. He is not a fulltime teacher and does not care about the progress of his students at all.
If you ask for help before or after class he will help you. He does weed out if you don't want to learn. Shows you how to use the TI-83 plus.Ya don't have to take the final if you get an A or B and he drops your lowest test score if you go to all classes.

You have to study and do the homework more than once. Be sure to ask questions on homework as soon as class starts. Practice. Those who are failing/have dropped out are those who don't do the homework and expect to get an A on the test.
Very fair teacher. Gives 4 tests for semester. Throws out the lowest test grade. 4th test is open book/notes. Get an A or B on first 3 tests, you won't have to come to class for 4th test and you won't have to take the final.
He is the worst teacher that I ever had! Don't even bother asking him a question he will bite your head off. He just copies the text book on the board examples and all. I honestly believe you have to be extremely good at math to pass.
MAC1105 is the lowest math he teaches so to him its elementary but to us it's rocket science. He's NOT helpful and acts like your a dumb a*s if you ask too many ???s. He moves too fast and doesn't explain enough. Within 2 classes, 1/2 the clas
GO TO CLASS!! Out of 4 tests, one is open book and one is take home. He will weed you out if you dont want to be there. No final if you have an A or a B. I got D's on my first 2 tests and got an 88 in the class. Stick with it and you will do fine.

Great Teacher, He has his own methods but they are very effective. Stick with it and put forth some effort and he will do what he can to get you to pass. All those who gave him a bad rating just did not stick with it long enough to see how fair and effective he is. MUST TAKE GOOD NOTES,WORD FOR WORD
Very particular when grading test, make sure you round off answers when directed. Makes up own tests, based on notes and homework. Not a lot of homework.
This guy is an egotistical prick! Horrible, horrible teacher! Do NOT take him!
It is very possible, in his class, to simply show up, write the notes in the zombie like state you're used to, and pass with an A while exempting out of the last 2 tests, thats almost a month of classes you can skip. He is a very fair, but strict teacher, and if you cant hang, thats your problem.
Would not recommend this teacher to anyone. I was lost from day one (on the review!). Notes on the board along with lecture were done so quickly that you were too busy writing everything down instead of actually trying to learn what he was saying. Dropped class.
As long as you follow him in class and do the work you should be fine, dont be afraid to ask questions, go over homework to study for the tests. He is very fair when it comes to tests and homework. As long as you put out an honest effort you will get an A or a B, and i dont care for math!
If you are not quick in math, do not take this class. He does his best to be fair, but talks too fast. It is very easy to fall behind when he lectures. He does give you a break with the last two tests, but he is too technical for the non math major. He is also hard to approach.
HE IS A VERY GOOD TEACHER. HE WONT CHECK UR H.W.BUT IF U WANT A NICE GRADE U SHOULD DO UR HOME WORK.
I am horrible in math, but needed this for my major. He made it very easy to understand, and I found him very helpful. He made college algebra a pleasant experience for me...I made a B.
I cant believe how well I did in this class. He is a great math teacher. I am horrible in math and I am getting an A. I came into this class really scared because he seems intimidating, but now, I wouldnt have wanted a different math teacher. I really enjoyed him.
He moves fast, DO YOUR HOMEWORK. He doesnt check it, but you will get behind if you dont. Very fair with testing. Lets you drop lowest test. Dont have to take final if you have a B in class.
I dropped him! I'm not a math lover. However, I took Dr. Itani for intermidiate algebra and I past because he's a good teacher and he cared if I past. Unlike,Colavecchio his attitude is you get it or you don't ...get a tutor he goes over the lecture to fast and hates to go back
Do your homework and ask questions and you will do fine. Don't have to take the final if you have a B. You also get to drop your lowest test score.
Not a very helful teacher. Seems to get annoyed if you ask any question. For your own safety do not ask him any questions that you think you should know the answer to already. He is hard to listen to, he sounds like Ben Stien.
Calavecchio is the man! No nonsense, cut and dry assignments. He only assigns and teaches what he wants you to know. Very profficient! Easiest (yet informative)class I have had yet.
Easiest math class. only grades are 4 tests (about 20 questions each) plus final. drop lowest test score, some are open book/note, if your three tests are b avg or above, you don't take the final.
He's a fair teacher. The tests are from the notes and homework. Just do the homework and take good notes and you will get an A!
excellent instructor..............knows his stuff
I got an A in this class, however it is not for people that do not enjoy math classes. He is very fast paced, and when he is going over the homework he goes by sections, and if you have a question about a certain problem and you don't ask him right then, he will not answer it. If you hate math and need college algebra take Serdynski
Wonderful teacher! Thoroughly enjoyed his class.
Professor gives all material for his class via the lecture. The only time the book is used is for homework assignments. He has a pretty fair grading policy but his tests are NOT easy. You have to know the material.
Seemed hardnosed at first but he ended up teaching me more than I thought I could learn. He understood that life had emergencies and was willing to work with me. I would definitely suggest him to anyone and if I have to take more math I will look for his availability.
I enjoyed his class. You really have to pay attention though or you will miss lots. I took his excelerated class which goes alot faster.
Awful teacher. He's rude and condescending and that is putting it mildly. He makes you feel like a moron if you ask a question, but refuses to go back over anything. He's actually suprised to find out that half the class is failing. Avoid unless you're a math whiz.
FAST PACED.I only survived and got an A b/c I went to the Math Lab every other day. You have to keep up, he goes fast. If you aren't that great in math, don't take him. The only thing I liked was that he dropped lowest test score. Whole grade based on tests. If you have a B in the end you are exempt from the final.
Higher level math requires much more time and effort than college algebra and the like. He does expect a lot of work to be done at home; but, I found I learned and grasped the concepts much better! Come with an open mind and take him with a grain of salt. He's from New York; give him a break, "people."
This professor teaches VERY fast. If you are not good in math, don't take this professor. He explains it once and he moves on. Homework is not graded. Averages are strictly based on exams.
Mr. Louis Colavecchio brings with him many years in private industry with real world experience. He imparts that through his teaching, such as reading the detailed instructions on the test and rounding to specific value. I did enjoy his teaching style and I was amused by his personality. I was successful and recommend him.
Very difficult if you don't have a natural inclination towards math. I wouldn't call him horrible, but he is tough. You have to be self-motivated to pass. I took this just to get my math credits and regret it. I didn't drop it because I tried to be optimistic. If you're struggling from the get-go, drop it before you screw yourself over.
He was a great teacher! I had my doubts at first but as the semester went on it turned out ok:) If you do your work and attend class like you're supposed to you will do just fine! But make sure if you have a question about something he's teaching or the homework ask it right then! When he says he doesn't work backwards he means it!;) GoodLuck!!!
Great teacher, moves fast, you gotta do your homework and actually pay attention. But very fair, good rules. I didn't even have to take the 4th test or the finals because my average grade was so good. I like that rule!
Great Teacher! He gets straight to the point with his lessons, prints out notes for you. Homework is not mandatory but if you do it, you should pass the class. He goes over ALL homework and questions at start of class, drops lowest test grade, he is available for questions if you need help. He wants you to do well I'd take him again if I needed to
Easiest Math class ever! I hate math and I took this and got A's on every test. He does teach really fast but he tells you exactly whats going to be on the test. Do the hw questions and look over the powerpoints and anyone can get an A.
Hah.. I loved this class. He lays everything in front of you and shows you what you need to know for the test. Will explain it once and then take questions until there are none. You will use a graph calculator for EVERYTHING and he will show you how to use it.
hands down the best math teacher i've had in a long time. trig is the second class that i've took of his. he is very straight forward. do your homework and ask questions. i would take him again if i needed to
Dropped the class after the first night. Terrible teacher, waste of time. I took both Elem. and Intermediate Algebra before taking College Algebra and was lost in the first hour of first class. Useless teacher.
He is the worse teacher I have ever had, he is not helpful, and he does not teach. He does not review anything and once he has completed a section, don't ask him a question, he will not go back. DO NOT TAKE HIM. On the first test, out of 15 students maybe 2 passed.
i have been in th am lost..is class for one week and i do well in math usually but this teacher sucks...and you have to buy a 100$ calculator...ugh
I do not know what prof. these other students are talking about. This prof was VERY GOOD& EXPLAINED IN DETAIL.He seems passive aggresive & mean but hey he is weeding out the class on who wants to learn & who doesn't.He answers all your questions & prepares you for the tests. I definitely would take him again. See for yourself what I mean.NO REGRETS
great prof. just go to class do hw & take notes very good just weeds out the class 1st 2 wks then teaches the ones who wants to learn. Answers all your questions too.
Great prof. just show up do the work & he answers all your questions. Seems strict @ first but he just wants you to learn. Very thorough and prepares you for the test do the homework. You will get an A if so
The best math class ive taken, Math is not my strongest subject. He explains every lesson in great detail. Makes math very easy to learn, doesn't ever check homework but it really helps you if you do it. Only 4 tests in the class. He does move fast but only if everyone is on track. If you dont understand something, dont be shy, he hates that.
He is horrible. Grade accounts from 4 tests and that's it. Does not motivate students to learn and will call you out in front of everyone if you do bad on a test. He talks to fast to take notes and follow him. Teaches by powerpoint. Considers himself a "mentor", not a teacher. You have to teach yourself. Prob the worst math teacher I've had.
RUDE. I took him because I read the reviews and thought I would give him a shot. BAD IDEA. He talks down to students and makes you feel like an idiot. *Trick questions on the tests.* His teaching style isn't the worst is you can get past how RUDE and ILL-MANNERED he is. I am apalled at how he is still allowed to teach with his NEGATIVE ATTITUDE!!!!
your grade comes from the tests that you take and his tests are hard and if you miss one class you will be so lost
He is hard if you don't understand math. Doesn't require you to do homework, but will go over it the next class if you have any questions. He is like a drill seargant. But he does want you to learn. If you take this class, use the math lab.
Prof. Colavecchio is the BEST math prof. I've ever had. he breaks down the information, is approachable, stays focused the whole class, is helpful. His reviews are wonderful. I love the way he teaches. Everybody should take him for MAC1105.
Fast paced class. Instructor doesn't check homework but it's best to do it so you understand. Textbook used for homework questions only. Hand-outs were provided. TI-83 Plus calculator a MUST. There are 4 tests & a final exam - STUDY! Concentrate, ask questions,do homework & show up to every class & an 'A' will be VERY attainable.
First time I ever understood Math. Great Prof! HW isnt mandatory but would recommend doing it because he makes tests from book and reviews HW at start of class. Moves quickly but will stop/slow down any time he is asked. Explains everything clearly, straight to the point. Dont expect to skim by, lazy/whiny students will not fare well with him.
Great prof, Knows math. I love is approach although some may get there little feelings hurt. If you show up and put forth a good effort in and out of class you will pass. The student that said they took all the prep maths and had to drop after the first day b/c they were lost may want to blame there 1033 teacher. He prepares u for the next level.
This teacher is nothelpful, he makes students intimadated to ask questons and moves extremely fast paced. I would NOT recommend this professor. If math is not one of your strong subjects dont bother taking his class.
I thought he was very easy. Homework is not graded so you dont have to do it. he teaches how to use your caculator for everything so its really a class on how to use a caculator, not math. but your grade for the class is only from 4 test. knows what hes talking bout, and good teacher. i would take him.
He's really clear and teaches you how to do everything. He also provides you with handouts of his powerpoints. Only grades are tests and the final exam.
This professor isn't hard. Just pay attention to his lectures, look at his handouts, actually do the hw beause thats where he gets his test questions from. ask questions if you don't understand or yes he will move on. he always had the answers to my questions they very next class. He is a great professor, just pay attention.
I really enjoyed Mr. C's class! I was very nervous because it had been 20 years since I was in High School. He does come off very harsh the first couple classes but I believe he is weeding out those who don't want to be there. As for not assigning homework, he does not babysit - if you want to pass you will do the suggested practice problems.
Prof C was great. But if you need a lot of extra help, probably he isn't the right professor for you. He answers any questions, but only at the time he's going over that specific material, or the related homework. He'll tell you, he doesn't go backwards. But, he's great for students who like a faster pace. HW is optional, but he pulls tests from it
Doesn't grade homework but I suggest doing it. Pay attention, he moves very quickly so if you don't ask a question he WILL move on. Don't be intimidated, he is helpful & will help if you ask. Your grade is only based off tests so I would also suggest not missing class if math is not your strong point. Take him if you are good at math.
Good professor who helps when needed. He doesn't like to go back once he's past a subject, but it's not hard to keep up so long as you don't slack off and do the work.
Mr. C. is a great professor! He explains everything step-by-step--as long as you write down his notes and ask for help when needed, you should be fine. He lectures for about 30 minutes tops and either you stay and do some work or you can leave--no penalty for leaving. I passed his class with an A. Great teacher!
Great Professor! Moves quickly but stay with him you'll have no problem. He does a lecture for 25-30 min then ur free to stay for help or go. If you can't pass with a good grade, you need to come to college when you're serious! Got an A!! :) Would def take him again!
Awesome Professor! Very Helpful! If you can't pass this class, come back when you are serious about college. Got an A. Would def take him again!
He has a problem with questions, especially if asked by a woman. Not fun, grumpy, short tempered and unpleasing overall.Got an A, but sitting in his class was a torture! He has an attitude problem most of the time, so if you like getting abused, you should take him for sure!
Great teacher! Yells, and seems impatient, but is willing to hear you out. Attend each class and take notes. He will test easy, and doesn't care about attendance.
He is a good professor overall. His lectures are not long and he explains everything step by step. If you take notes and ask questions the class should be pretty easy.
Best math teacher I've ever had! He's always open for questions if anyone needs help and doesn't move on until everybody who has a question understands the topic. Homework is optional but I strongly suggest doing it to study for his tests. Don't slack off! If you have an A average before the 4th test or the final he exempts you from taking both!
Mr. Colavecchio is a math genius with no sense of humor or people skills. His class is straight forward, take notes, do homework , take test...by the book. He dominates his class by his short lectures and math problems on the board. He weeds out the uninterested and makes an effort to teach the willing effectivly. 1 thumb up for colavecchio.
Really good professor, really smart & makes it fun!
This class is great if you're lookin fr an easy A in a college math class! He teaches clearly, and efficiently. Doesn't go backwards at all, so if u hav any questions, dont be scared, ask it right then! He cares about the student and wants to make sure everyone succeeds! Do attend class if youre not someone who can pick it up yourself! :)
Best math professor I have EVER had. I struggle in math and didn't struggle at all in his class. Definitely recommend!!
He uses my math lab. The workbook is for homework. Do the homework and ask questions when you don't understand. He doesn't go back in class. Seek extra help during lab or office hours. He's loud but that's just his personality. Professor was very helpful.
He goes fast in class, so if you have a question, ask it otherwise you'll be left behind. He will stay and help at the end of class though. He teaches as if you're going on to another math class, which is good. Gives out handouts, so only use the book for hw, which is minimal. If you get it, then it'll be easy, if not, get help!
Mr. Colavecchio has inspired me beyond what any other professor has. He is a great teacher! I wish I could keep him as a teacher ALWAYS! He explain everything in detail and if you have a question you must ask on the spot, or else you better go to the Math Lab. He gives handouts buit you always have to take notes. I would recommend this professor!!!
He was super sarcastic and had a very dry humor that I enjoyed. The tests were simple if you payed attention and took okay notes. You don't need to buy the book if you don't plan on doing the homework, but the homework is very similar to the tests. He was good about answering questions after class. Overall nice guy and easy to understand.
If you are not good w/ math do NOT take him. I was scared to ask questions because he would say "we already discussed that I don't go back." I learned everything in tutor lab. Class did not help me. Nice guy but not good teacher for me. Only thing that saved me was open book exam & I took VERY detailed notes to help. Very hard, I even cried.
Mr Colavecchio is an awesome professor, he is straight forward and doesn't like to repeat himself if you were not paying attention. He's happy to help anyone that is trying. He gives practice tests that cover the material on the tests.
Even though he sounds very stern, Prof C is user friendly. If I needed help, I never felt like he didn't have time. He answers emails promptly, often gives time in class to work on lessons & HW! I recommend taking him for Elementary Algebra. Math is very hard for me (I have a developmental disability) and I got an A.
Excellent Professor who is very informative. He gives you time to ask questions so you better ask them cause he goes forward not backwards
LOVED him as a person but his class is REALLY hard. I am terrible at math, I have only ever passed by turning in homework. In his class there's a total of 5 tests you DONT turn in homework though it is assigned. If your good at math TAKE HIM! Otherwise Goodluck!
First, if you aren't a fast paced learner, don't go to his class. Second, if you have any questions, be prepared for a sarcastic statement based on your intelligence. Third, if you purchased a textbook, and calculator, use it and your mind or even assistant help from the math lab to the best of your ability, they'll be more helpful for you.
Mr. Colavecchio is awesome! I am usually not a fan of Mathematics, but he was so helpful that it was fun and easy for me. He's very funny, and really takes his time with the lesson to make sure everyone understands and gets a good grade. I would definitely recommend him to anyone taking a mathematics course at FSCJ.
I am literally awful at math, but I feel like I actually learned something from this man's class. He's super tough and is fast paced, but he always ends class 15-30 mins early and offers additional help.He offers very helpful study guides and helps you as long as you help yourself. As long as you are hardworking, you will pass AND learn.
Really good professor. He's fast paced and pretty hard on his classes but he does care and he will do what he can to ensure his students pass. He only goes forward and not backwards so if you're confused about something, then ask about it when he opens up the floor because when he says "done" he's moving on. Take him if you can.
Love his class! He is very straight forward and helpful. I took him for intermediate and now for college algebra. No hw, just 5 tests that are easy if you study. He gives you powerpoint notes to help you study. He's always open for questions if you ask when he is going over it, but he never goes back.
Don't ask questions unless you want a sarcastic remark thrown at you. If he is "done" and moved on you better not ask a question on what he just went over. HW not required but questions from HW are on the test that are not included in study guide! DO NOT count on the study guide to pass the test. If your a math genius take him, he will love you
Wonderful teacher. Very intelligent and helpful. He's big on homework and attendance but it's worth it for a good grade.
Tough professor but he made me push harder. Felt like i deserved my grade. He made me like math better. I would take him again.
He is very straight forward, not too hard to keep up. He actually made math pretty easy for me to understand. only 5 test. Attendance is a must. It's not mandatory but if you miss a lecture day, good luck catching up. Very fast paced but will give help if need. But DO NOT ask to revisit a section once he has moved on. Once he's done he's done.
I was thrown off by his attitude at first. He spent a lot of time intimidating us about the difficulty of the material, but this scared off the lazyuncommitted students. After dropadd he really turned around! Class attendance was a must for me. He provided powerpoint notes which was extremely helpful! Drops lowest test grade. Grade is tests only
Mr. Colavecchio is an excellent professor. Sure, it's not the easiest class but he makes things understandable. His lessons consist of the introduction of the topic, easy examples and then hard examples. He goes over everything in detail so you're able to take good notes. He's a helpful man but you better pay attention or else you'll fail.
This class was by far one of my favorite algebra classes ive taken in quite a while. He is tough but clear. The only grades he takes are test grades. no homework, no class assignments. ONLY Test Grades. This may seem to scare people, but he gives you copies of his own notes and powerpoints and he gives out practice tests that look like the test.
Show up to class and bring your calculator, 5 test 1 final drops lowest test grade. If you already have an A average you don't have to take Final. Gives HW but its mandatory but I recommend doing for practice. Ask as many questions as you can in class, tries to intimidate you in the beginning but its only to see who is really dedicated.
Very efficient, knowledgeable, and straight forward. Grades all tests the same day. You only have 5 tests and 1 final totaling to 6. He will only keep the best 4 grades. If you do well on the first 4 he will omit the last 2. Comes off intimidating, but is actually very nice. I recommend him for any math course.
He was an awesome teacher very clear and going in knowing nothing come out understanding everything. bad at math take this man he will have you understanding everything. taking him for all my math classes.
I was so nervous on taking his Trig class after reading certain reviews... but I am now so glad I chose to take it with him! 90% of your grade is based off exams & 10% is participationattendance. Homework is not graded, but helps tremendously! If you attend lectures and do the practice study guide multiple times, you will pass!
I was nervous about taking this class because I hadn't done algebra in over 4 years. If you actually go to class and pay attention you should be fine. He will ask if you have a question once he moves on he doesn't go back. He gives a chance to make up for a bad test and opened homework back up after the deadline. Passed with a high B
Once he moves on he never goes back, so don't miss a class. Was lucky to get a 91 on a test that I missed 1 day on an important section. HW is not mandatory. He's straight forward. Practice tests are close to the actual tests. I just take notes & do the PT, if I'm rough in an area I do HW questions related to my trouble spot. Overall, EASY class.
Professor COLAVECCHIO is a tough professor but as long as you pay attention you should be ok. His lectures are short yet effective and if you have a doubt he is always open to questions as long AS LONG AS YOU DON'T GO BACK to something he already explained when he is teaching something else. You have to study a lot for the tests to
Only 5 tests, drops your lowest grade. Opportunity to be exempt from the last quiz and final if you ace the first 4. Gives AMAZING study guides for every test. All homework is optional. Only tests are graded. I am taking him again for Trigonometry next semester. Easy class, great professor, highly recommended.
I am not the best at math, but having Colavecchio as my professor really helped. He gives printed handouts of the unit he is teaching as well as practice exams that are just like the test. Drops lowest test grade, final is optional if you have an A average. He goes very in depth and explains everything he does. I recommend taking his class.
His class consists of a daily lecture and then a total of 5 tests. BUT he takes the best 4 test grades, and allows you to retake one of the 5. Also, if you have an A by the 5th test, he exempts you from taking the 5th test and the final. Sadly for me I still had to take the 5th test, just no final ( I got the A). Usually get out of class early too.
Great teacher, fast pace and tries to scare people off, I cried my first day because I thought I would fail, walked out with a 95% and was exempt from the fifth test AND the final plus he has an amnesty day for the first four tests
tries to scare you away, but in reality he just wants you to learn. this is the best math teacher ive ever had i took the super accelerated version on accident and waled out with a 100 he doesnt like to mess around but he will help you with anything. doing home work is advisable but im retarted at math and i got a 100 hes literally thatttt good
Gives 5 tests, drops lowest, and if you don't have an A by the last test, you're required to take final. Very straightforward, once he goes forward he doesn't go back (except for final exam review). PTs are exactly like the tests. Went into final with 80%, afterwards - I ended up with an A int he class. EASY if decent/good in math.
Amazing professor. Gives out PowerPoint which is based on lecture. Homework is not optional. Counts 4 out of the 5 tests and exempt from final if you have an a.
I would take his course again. Very straight to the point. Moves a little fast but if you do the optional homework, its not bad.
I took Colavecchio's Trig class and never regretted it. Unlike most professors, he follows syllabus deadlines exactly. This is a huge plus, so you know the exact day a test will be given long in advance. Do his suggested homework problems and you will have no problems with this class. Got out with an A and didn't have to take the final test.
Best math teacher I have ever had. He will try to scare you away but hes actually a really nice guy. Lectures are to the point and he tries not to waste your time. Very organized. Actually teaches you how to use your graphing calculator. He gives a test review packet before every test and the questions are exactly the same with different numbers.
What an inspiring professor! He is very good at what he does, the class was extremely helpful and fun. Not only does he print the power point subjects for each person, he helps you understand the graphing calculator, and only helps you if you seek the help first! He gives you practice tests, and overall it is an amazing class!!
Tries to scare you out the first couple weeks. He really is a great teacher though. I had a terrible math background and got an 85. He bumped me to a 90. Homework is optional but I highly suggest doing it. Gives practice tests for each chapter for you to take home and complete, goes over questions next class. Only attendance and test grades matter
He tries to scare you for the first couple of days, but don't freak out. He can be a little condescending at times, but for the most part he's a pretty great prof. He'll make it seem like you have one chance to ask any questions you have, but I found if I went up to him after class, he was more than accommodating. I would definitely recommend him.
Best math Prof. at FSCJ
At first I was intimidated by him because of his stern look, but after talking to him a very sweet man. I love how he doesn't use My Math Lab or BB, and his homework is not mandatory. Participate in class because that does count as a grade. I would definitely recommend him to any student.
He was the best math teacher that I have taken at FSCJ!!! Very clear lectures and he actually cares about his students. Although attendance is not mandatory, it is super important that you show up for class otherwise you'll be lost.
He is probably the one of the best math teachers at FSCJ. He teaches and structures his class on a college level, NOT like a high school class. His lectures are straightforward, he doesn't waste your time with any nonsense. He holds you accountable for your grade but gives many chances to get a good grade. Overall he's the ideal college professor.
Professor Colavecchio isn't for all students, because he doesn't put up with nonsense. He doesn't repeat himself so YOU MUST LISTEN! If you skip you will be behind, so don't unless you like the Math Lab. He also lets you remake a bad test grade, drops your lowest, homework is encouraged but optional, and allows final exemptions with an A average.
Professor Colavecchio was the easiest math teacher that I have ever taken. The study guides were basically the test. The homework is optional. I got A's on the first four tests and did not have to take the fifth test or the final. The lectures are very short. I would for sure take again.
Colavecchio is a marvelous professor! He can be intimidating at first but he really gets straight down to what he will be testing you on & definitely cares for his students. Make sure to actually show up to his class & pay attention because he doesn't put up with laziness or repeat himself. Gives chapter notes & practice tests
Very fast paced class, got out early. Tries to scare off students in the beginning and expects you to know review material. AMAZING PROF! I actually learned how to use my calculator! Make sure you don't skip or you will be lost. The study guides are the exact same as the test ! Printed notes of slides are super helpful. Didn't use blackboard.
The most professional professor I've seen with the school. Expects students to act like adults in college pursuing something of their own volition. If you skip class more than once, you're apt to just be dropped outright. No filler or fluff, only content is taught. Would take his class again any time and with pleasure.
Very good instructor. There is homework assigned after every class, but he will only ask for questions without checking it. 5 tests throughout the regular semester, the lowest score being dropped. Students with A's in the class are exempt from the final. Nice A.A. credit class for arts majors.
Professor Colavecchio is a great professor. Make sure you attend every class, if you miss just one class you miss out on a section. Write down everything he puts on the board and pay close attention, he won't repeat himself. Homework is not graded but he does assign it.
Mr. Colavecchio is great! Attend class, listen carefully and do the homework especially those practice tests! They're similar to the real test! His lectures are very organized, clear and concise. You get out early all the time too. He's a little intimidating at first but he's a great professor who reviews important stuff from old topics. Take him!
Great teacher. Arrive to class early and copy everything on the board. Learn to use a scientific calculator on day one; it will pay off on test days. Find math help videos online. 5 tests and final; book needed for optional homework only (do it). Gives lecture notes, handouts, and practice tests. If A average by test 4, you have passed the class.
Tries to scare off the lazy ones within the first 2 weeks of class. No-nonsense prof & will not hold your hand in this class. Hw is not mandatory but if you want to pass, DO IT! Do the hw before the lecture & only ask questions if you've actually attempted the problem. Miss class, you miss a whole section. Best 4/5 tests. Curves final grade.
This professor will try to scare you off the first week of class. He comes off extremely strict. After the first couple of weeks, he becomes very caring and helpful. I used to be so bad at math, but for the first time in my life, I have passed every math test during the entire semester. He is great at teaching. 10/10 recommend.
He is such a great teacher. He is scary on the first day though. He just wants to make sure you really study for each test. The study guides are the exact same thing as the test. There are 5 tests, if you have an A after test 4, you dont have to take test 5 or the final. Not a lot of homework. He lets you out early every class.
Great Professor for those who hate the math classes that have a large online component. He gives five tests, and takes your highest four scores, and if you have an A average after the first four tests you are exempt from the last test and the final. Homework is optional but recommended.
Very intimidating if you are a first-time Trig student not used to using the unit circle method. This tripped me up horribly since I had taken Trig before and without the use of it, I completely drew a blank, which led to my demise. Get ready for a lot of yelling and barking, and he never "repeats himself", as he so put it. Had to withdraw.
Firm but fair would be the best way I can describe him. Very heavy on lectures, so definitely take lots of them and always be there, even if you are sick or dying. Does not tolerate tardiness or absenteeism. Only reason I had to drop his class was because I had a severe panic attack, but I do recommend him if you are very willing to learn.
This professor weeds out the lazy ones right off the bat because he likes good students. He is intimidating but don't let that scare you off. Unless of course you have a problem w/ getting a test done in an hour & 15 mins, then don't bother. He genuinely likes teaching & I felt he cared if you passed IF you showed that you cared about it as well.
He is so rude. Difficult to see his smiling face.
Professor Colavecchio is one of the best math teachers/professors I've encountered. If you aren't very good with math, you'll definitely still have to go to the math lab, but he makes things very easy to understand and is always willing to explain in further detail. He doesn't get impatient if you need help. He can be intimidating, but is nice.
Professor Colavecchio comes off intimidating at first so he can weed out the slackers, but he's really sweet and caring! He gives you a study guide that's identical to the tests (different numbers of course), so there is no reason not to get an A! 5 tests, drops the lowest score and if you have a 90 avg or higher, you don't have to take the final!
He is an amazing teacher. He explains things well and gets straight to the point. He doesn't explain math only trigonometry. So, if you don't have basic algebra skills, this is not the class for you. His only grades are the best 4 of 5 tests and the final if you don't already have an A. He gives practice tests for each test that is very similar.
He's a really good professor if you are already solid on past math. Not too much homework and get's right to the point which I like. He's not for everyone though. He is not accessible out of class, which is a shame. I needed some help at one point but could not receive it unfortunately. He is also pretty scary to come up to.
Professor Colavecchio is a great professor! He works with students, does what he can to help students out, and makes it very clear what you need to do (no guessing). The homework is optional. Attendance is so important in any math class, but especially this one because his class won't show up on BB. If you want the grade, study for the test.
Professor Colavecchio is great! For most of the courses he teaches, he gives A average students an exemption from the final. I had a high B average (88 or 89) at the end of the semester for both courses and he game me an exemption from the final. He's understanding, open, and he really cares about his students. Strongly recommend taking him.
Does a very good job at explaining the material. He only takes the best 4/5 tests and does not grade HW at all. He also exempts A avg students from the finale. The only problem you may have is that he never repeats himself. So if you are going to take this class I suggest you take really good notes. Also he does not give EC. Over all good prof.
Most enjoyable 7 week math course I have ever taken. He screams during his whole lecture which I find very amusing. His teaching style is straight to the point and expects you to know your basic algebra. If math isn't your strong suit you will need to study a lot & get a tutor in the math lab even then an A+ is possible. Homework is not necessary.
This man is AMAZING! I had taken him for Summer C 2018, and his class is not hard. If you struggle with math, go to the math lab. Very hilarious man. Just show up, do the work, and ask questions if you have them. He's willing to help you pass. He also gave students who had a strong grade in the class (A, high B) an option to take the final or not.
Colaveccio knows his math but severely lacks in test preparation as tests make up 100% of the final grade. Each practice test only provides a fraction of the questions seen on the test leaving students on a race against the clock to try and answer questions rather than solving problems with efficiency. I had to drop his class because of this issue.
Had this professor, his test out-weigh the homework. If you're not good at math, his class is very hard. He's very harsh to the students who don't know or understand the material. Instead of helping them, he tells them to go to tutoring. If you're not good at testing, this isn't the class for you. And make sure to drop before failing/times out.
He knows what he is talking about, and is just a great professor all around. He is willing to help you and go over what you have questions about, but speak up because he will not go back! Gives 5 tests throughout the course, you have room to fail one. If all good on the four tests you are exempt. In my case I am exempt from fifth test, and final.
I loved this class. I suck at math but he made it clear to me. Doesn't use blackboard which makes seeing grades hard but he will tell you if you ask. I only made two C's in the class the rest were high B's. He will help you if you're having trouble. I would love to take this professor again!
Professor Colavecchio does not play! Lol but he is really great professor and I definitely appreciate his teaching style. Granted, it is not for everyone. Homework is optional but I strongly recommend it. If you have an A in the class you may be exempt from taking the final. I would definitely take him again.
Please do not take this class if you are not strong at math. He goes really fast and does not repeat himself twice. He is intimidating but ask questions anyway. YES YOU WILL NEED A TEXTBOOK! he doesn't worry about homework, BUT YOU SHOULD DO THE HOMEWORK! He takes the best four out of five for test grades and the study guide is just like the test.
This teacher is great. I would take him for ever math course. I wish he taught pre-calc. He is so good at teaching the subject and know math well. He will help you after class and during teaching. He is big On not going back so you have to pay attention but honestly he teaches it so well its easy to get it. He give practice test that are great!!!
Mr. Colavecchio can seem very intimidating at first, but he honestly is just very passionate about what he teaches. Do not be a minute late for class as he takes attendance very seriously. Only thing for a grade is tests (best 4 out of 5). Take good notes because he will not go back for anyone. Very kind man and just wants everyone to do well!
I took Prof. Colavecchio for college algebra, and it was a good experience. You are graded best 4/5 of tests plus the final which you can be exempted from if you have an A. Teaches you how to use a graphing calculator, which you can use on the tests. Homework is optional. He gives practice tests which are exactly like his tests. Take him!
You don't need the book unless you want to use it for practice. He only grades your tests however if you take all five, he uses the highest 4. Does give handouts and easy to follow along through the lecture. Oh, and don't forget that graphing calculator.
I sux at math. He moves FAST, and will NOT go back to previous topics. He is pretty nice one on one but in class he is mean. He has put other students down in front of the entire class, he gets frustrated when no one speaks up in class to answer questions but will bite your head off if you are wrong. I would NEVER recommend him.
HW is opt and not graded. He goes over some problems in class but will only go over hw or practice test problems if you ask him to. Final grade is based on 5 tests (best 4 out of 5) and the final (unless you get an A, then you are exempt). Uses MML but ONLY the textbook and exams. I would not recommend him at all! He is so rude and disrespectful...
The mans a legend. Comes of a little harsh sometimes. But he really cares and will give you every opportunity to pass. I took him for both college algebra and trig. Both times anyone with an A at the end of the semester was exempt from the Final. Homeworkoptional, and he gives you study guides that are exactly like the tests. TAKE HIM!!!!
Professor Colavecchio is a great math teacher. The class is graded by 5 exams and 1 final. You have to take the final but he will drop your lowest exam grade. He teaches very clearly and is open to helping anyone that needs help. The first couple of classes he was super tough, but after that he was nice.
Professor Colavecchio at first comes off as super tough. He expects you to show up to class on time, not a minute late. Homework is not mandatory and is not graded, but it is extremely helpful there are 5 tests and the lowest of your test grades will be dropped. If you average an A then you are exempt from the final. ASK QUESTIONS!!
Took hybrid Trig. Comes off as intimidating but he wants you to pass. Only graded things are 5 tests and a final. Open notes. Lowest out of 5 is dropped. An A average after the 4th test exempts you from the 5th and final. Uses My Math Lab through Pearson; hw is up to you. He goes over things thoroughly but doesn't like to backtrack. Good professor
Hes definitely not bad at teaching and helps students who dont understand. However his tests being the only things he grades can make passing difficult. He poorly structures his test questions so that you get tricked up not only by the math itself but by the question. He will put multiple choices but then say you cant use them, which is pointless
He tries to scare you at the beginning. I was nervous at first, but the class isn't that hard if you aren't bad at math. He takes the best 4 of 5 exams. Those are the only grades for his class. After I took the first 4 tests, I had an A average, so I didn't have to take the last test nor the final exam. DO HW IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND! hw is optional
In the beginning of the class he tries to scare you but he is a really good teacher. The homework is optional and their are 5 tests but only takes the best 4. If you have an A after 4 tests you are exempt from the final and the last test. Also if you have a question he will answer it and if you don't understand something he will go over it again.
Professor Colavecchio is the BEST math teacher I have ever had. I used to suck at math before I took his class. He explains the material very well and helps you if you are stuck. HW is not required, but def do it! DO NOT miss a class if you want to pass with a good grade. I wish I could take more math classes with him.
he's a little intimidating due to being loud but he's an amazing teacher otherwise. i got to pass college algebra with him after failing my last attempt. just come to every class and get the courage to ask questions, he's a spring full of knowledge and suprisingly nice.
Prof Louis is such a great teacher. At first he seems scary but he will definitely help you with your math problems. He has 5 classroom tests (he would drop the lowest score) and a final. If you have an overall grade of "A" from the first 4 tests you are exempted for test 5 and final. Study and follow his instructions and you will get a good A.
He is commited to helping all his students pass as long as there is participation.
Prof. Colavecchio does not make trig harder than necessary. His handouts and study guides are very helpful. Try not to miss class because you will be behind. He is happy to answer questions but he will not reteach stuff he has already been over. Homework is "optional" but PLEASE do it, it's so helpful. Your grade is based on your best 4 of 5 tests.
Prof the first few weeks & Test 1 were intimidating, but it got easier. Prof was somewhat unprofessional towards students and their questions at times. I read thru chapters 2x, did HW in textbook until I understood, & took good notes for my A. Lectures are imperative, pay attention & don't miss. I enjoyed this class & I've never done well in math.
At first he seemed very strict, on the first couple day, but once you get used to them hes very caring. also homework was optional and the final exam was the same as the practice test he gives you. Just dont be late for class
Scary at first, but the intimidation worked. I've always been horrible at math. He scared me into getting my crap together. After the first couple weeks, he is very nice and his lectures are extremely easy to follow. I wish I could take him for my next course. First A I've ever gotten in math. Let us do open book for final.
Test Heavy ( had a test every two weeks) Hw not for grade ( assigns homework, doesn't grade it) lecture on power-point ( he will hand write examples) does not like repeating himself or problems ( listen carefully he will not go back) drops lowest score of test graphing calc needed. lots of studying.
College algebra class was well taught. He hands out PowerPoint packets and teaches you what you need to know for upcoming tests. He drops the lowest score and exempts you from the final if you have an A average by the time the final approaches. Homework is optional. The class is simple if you come from an honors background.
He seems intimidating at first but later on you see that he's just very passionate. Homework is optional but highly recommended, & he will over the questions if you ask. He gives physical handouts for the power points to follow along and goes over practice test questions. You're only grades are the test but he gives everyone the tools to succeed.
This teacher is the worse I have ever had coming from the way that he functions. For starters, He does not use canvas so whatever rules/syllabus he have, it is not able to be looked back at for verification. If you miss a test day with an excuse note FROM A DOCTOR, he will NOT let you take that test which is messed up.And his grades only go by tests.
Mr. Louis Colavecchio is easily the best math professor I've ever had, he can seem intimidating at first but it's only so you know you must be prepared for the class. He explains everything very well and doesn't grade homework it's optional but only there to make you a better student. I highly take anyone looking a Trig teacher to take him!
pay attention and take notes on his lectures! homework is optional but highly recommended! he only grades ~5 tests and the final but if you do well after the fourth test, he exempts the last test and the final. study guides are very similar to the tests. attendance is MANDATORY as he does not go over previous lectures (don't be late either)
Passive teaching style, pre-written problems, and monotonous presentations. Scolding students for wrong answers discourages participation. Limited availability for help. Strict attendance policy. Mixed experience overall. Consider other options for a more interactive learning environment. Would recommend going elsewhere for any difficult classes.
First off, beware. He does not use canvas. Everything is on paper. No quizzes, just 5 tests and 1 final. 70% of the grade comes from your tests and 30% from the final. Optional homework, although highly encouraged. Get an A average on the first four tests, you get an auto-A. Drops the lowest test grade as well. Always show up to not miss a lecture.
A great professor, he basically scares you the first couple of weeks by warning you about the rigour of this class, and it is pretty tough. He has 5 tests, he'll drop the lowest grade, and if you have an A average by the time all 5 tests are done, you'll be able to skip the final exam. Homework is optional, but you'll need to study, study, study!
A great professor, but very tough. He has 5 tests, he'll drop the lowest grade, and if you have an A average by the time all 5 tests are done, you'll be able to skip the final exam. Homework is optional, and you'll need to study a lot. For those who have taken his MAC1105 class, this class will be 3x harder, but be diligent & you will succeed
Professor Colavecchio can be very intimidating at first, but you can tell he cares about his students. The lectures tend to go fast so make sure you are alert and ready to learn/ take notes. Homework is not a grade, but definitely helps. Chapter tests are the only grade, but he provides study guides that are super similar to the actual test.
Was a little intimidated in his class at first, but quickly overcame that. Homework is NOT mandatory, but is extremely helpful! Take notes, show up to class, and ask questions. There's no stupid questions in this class. No nonsense, no sugar coating, and straight to the point. Highly recommend!
Professor Colavecchio can be intimidating at first, but he cares about his students. Lectures move quickly, so stay alert and take notes. Homework isn't graded but helps. Use Unstuckstudy alongside chapter tests to ace this class.
Best math professor I've had in college. Has office hours, will help but is tough. Do not take if you like to skip class or sleep through lecture. He cares about his students very much and will def call you out. Be diligent, do ALL homework, it will help SO much. MAKE SURE to do the practice tests! Tough class, but you can def pass with hard work.
Professor Colavecchio is a very straightforward professor. Attend his lectures, take notes, and study to pass the class through his tests. As most other reviews say, he is a little intimidating at first. However, he cares about his students, and you're encouraged to ask questions. Homework is optional, but extremely helpful!
A very strict, but caring professor. I enjoyed my time with him and began to understand why he said what he told us on day one ab being there on time and paying attention. DO THE HOMEWORK GUYS, ITS WORTH IT AND IT WILL BENIFIT YOU!! DONT JUST NOT DO IT OR ONLY DO THE PRACTICE TEST AND THINK ITS ENOUGH! ITS NOT! DO NOT MAKE THAT MISTAKE!! :D
There was no homework, just tests. He would give practice tests to do at home, and if you practiced that multiple times until you got everything right, you were golden for the actual test. Before the test in class, he would go over practice problems, basically anything that could be on the test. He taught everything clearly. Favorite professor.
Professor Colavecchio is one of the best math instructors I've ever had. I've always been horrible at math but he makes it very easy to understand. If you're good at math, you'll pass his class with no trouble.
Notes are pretty easy as he gives print-outs of his powerpoints. He only keeps grades for 4 out of 5 of the tests, dropping the lowest one. If you have an A average after the 4th test, you won't need to take the 5th test and the final exam, same for getting an A average after finishing the 5th test. Textbook and homework is optional as well!
Second time taking him, once again a very straightforward and caring professor. Optional homework assignments (very helpful, though). Drops the lowest test grade and exempts the final if you have an A average. He offers practice tests that are just like the real ones. Do a little studying and pay attention in class to succeed.
Great professor! He seems strict at first but is fair and clear. Practice tests are just like the real ones—do those and you're good. Homework isn't graded but helps. If you have an A by Test 4, you're exempt from Test 5 and the final. Fast-paced but manageable.
I thoroughly enjoyed Professor Colavecchio's lectures. His lectures are clear and I found them easy to understand. The practice tests are just like the real ones, so if you can do those, you'll be good. Overall, I really enjoyed his class.
If you struggle at all with math, this class isn't for you. He moves fast and stands by his pace, you either speak up or get left behind. You have 5 tests and those are your only grades. There is homework but it isn't graded and the textbook only covers half the answers.
Proffessor Colavecchio comes off as really strict early on, but he definitely cares about his students. The class is fast, and he doesn't slow down, so if you aren't great with math then I'd avoid taking courses with him. There's 5 tests and a final; homework is optional, and all of the practice tests are similar to the real tests.
He was one of my favorite professors ever. He cares so much, and just wants each student to succeed. If you put in the work, it is easy to do well in his class. He is strict and tries to scare you, but don't let that fool you. He is an amazing teacher!
Incredible professor. Is pretty tough the first 2-3 weeks but he's just preparing you to get ready for the class. Very caring, has a warm heart and truly cares about his students. Best math professor in the State of Florida.
