Dr. Falk is awesome and he will prepare you for college. His humor is great. What you will need is common sense and some intellectual wit to pass his class. If you can't, just quit school cause you probably fail at life.
thats funny, to the person who keeps writing these insults: u were probably the kid who got kicked out of his class because you're too much of an idiot. Grow up , its obvious that you aren't mature and not ready for college. Class is a breeze.
He is one of the worst professors I've ever had!! He will judge you the minute you walk into his classroom and thinks he is the only person with the right answer. He was always making **** jokes because he favored the men over women. His class wasn't all that hard but he is strict and WILL kick you out of his class if you try to turn your assignment in late. When I emailed him about an assignment he responded rudely and wouldn't give me a clear explanation. This teacher is a fail.
Well this teacher was a jerk, always thinks he is right and will keep arguing until he has the last word. Makes stupid jokes that make no sense. Wont care why you were absent even if u are in the hospital dieing, He lost all the respect i had for him the first day of class. Real jerk and horrible way of teaching. Easy class stupid professor.
Worst professor ever. He does not talk about the textbook in class, he just discusses useless topics and current events. Tests are on the textbook, so you are basically teaching yourself.
This professor is a great teacher. He will help you with almost anything. All you have to do is show a little effort. The problem in his classes is that they are filled with immature freshman. Dr. Falk has rules concerning rudeness, being late-which interrupts speeches, and using a cell in class. If you can't follow the rules don't take him.
If you are a dim-witted, fart joke loving moron who is more concerned with your facebook status than you are with what is going on in class, then listen to the idiots that say Dr. Falk's class is hard. Dr. Falk has a great sense of humor and is very helpful, but you have to be willing to work. IT'S COLLEGE PEOPLE!!!
Good professor but can be mean.Make sure to follow instructions to the T! NO EXCEPTIONS! If you are missing the most minimal thing he will deduct BIG points! His exams are mostly based on the book. You can only miss 3 days of class then he drops you out of the class. If you study a little (but study) and do the assignments you should get an easy B.
Good Professor! Rules a little strict. Problems only occur when you don't come to class or do the assignments.

He is a really great professor! You only need to make 4 speeches, 4 online speeches, and the discussion boards. If you have questions he will help you. He has a great sense of humor but sometimes he gets serious.

Not as easy as other speech sections. You truly are a better speaker after this class. The only students that don't like him are ones that do not put in any effort - complete losers with no future!

Attendance mandatory, but I did not feel I learnt anything during those classes. Tests (only two - mid and final) based on the book; a lot of reading required. Still book sometimes interesting and I feel I have learnt something from the projects we had to create. I did not like it, nothing special - just a mandatory class.

Dr. Falk is awesome. He is crystal-clear on all of his expectations. No essays, only presentations and youtube videos. He always gives constructive criticism, which is great. I felt like I learned quite a bit.
A tough grader. If he tells you he wants something ac certain way ,such as the outlines for your speeches, you better do it just like he told you to. Weekly videos are fun to do. You will not need the textbook. Don't be late, he hates that. It may seem tough at first but trust me you will learn. He offers extra credit, take it!
Dr. Falk is funny and very sarcastic, but if things don't go his way, he will NOT be happy. The course is composed of 4 major speeches (test grades) and you must turn in an outline with each speech. Word of advice, make sure your outlines are ONE WORD. You'll have a final speech given with a PPT. Make sure your ppt is constructed like your outlines
Dr. Falk is a great professor. He has a dark humor and expects all students to do their work CORRECTLY. He seems intimidating however if you show up to class, show interest by participating you'll be fine. He doesn't really lecture on the book, but you do need it for the exams.
This teacher is awful!!! He says he has a Ph.D. in communication but lacks communication skills I'm 17 and I believe I have better communication skills than he will ever have. He is vague all the time. He doesn't know how to answer questions correctly. when we email him he takes years to reply and he doesn't even answer the question.
Taking this online class has proven to be one of the more difficult tasks in all my years of schooling. I feel like instructions for given assignments are too vague for how critical he is on his grading. More often than not I've found myself wondering what exaclty it is he's looking for in an assignment, and find out when it's too late. No from me.

Professor Falk is horrible! He has no consideration whatsoever. He doesnt seem to notice the effort you put in to your work, simply if he doesnt like your work he will fail you. He is very vague. He is very unclear. He doesnt give partial credit, even if you just missed one thing, he wont even give you like a 50. Its either a 100 or a zero.
Dr. Falk is an unnecessary level of hard. Considering I took this class online I was expecting it to be the occasional turn in an assignment get the points and done, but nope. He grades your video assignments as if he was a movie critic and never specifies what he wants clearly. For an online COMM class it was ridiculous. He does not help at all.
Dr. Louis Falk is an ok professor. You have to turn in all assignments ON TIME. Not before, or after-unless you want 0 credit for it. As long as you put time and effort into your work, you should be fine. He doesn't give good feedback on video projects. You do quizzes, group projects, and discussion boards weekly. Would I recommend him? I guess.
This class was extremely difficult and the professor was very vague in what he wants. His grading methods are horrible. I would get a 100 on one assignment and a 50 on the next. Other students had complained about getting zero's on assignments. The only pro I give him is that he responds quick to emails. Bottom line is, do not take this professor.
Tough grader. Assignments instructions are very vague, yet he grades under the assumption that they were very detailed. I took this as a filler course because it was online and I thought it would be easy. It isn't. His course format is far from what you would expect of an online course. Bottom line, do yourself a favor and pass on this one.
For a communications professor you would expect him to be great at communicating assignment requirements. His instructions are extremely vague, however he comments on your work as if you had the most detailed instructions in the world. I would not recommend this professor, he does not offer great examples or detailed instructions.
He is pretty harsh when grading journals and he wants everything supper specific. If you do the group projects do it carefully because he will pick every single detail you did wrong.
While the grading criteria was precise and clear, he did not give credit for effort. For a communications class, he left much to be desired about clarity in his instructions vs how he graded and evaluated my submissions. The reviews on this site seem to favor his Speech classes. Read all the reviews before deciding.
If you are going to pick this teacher you are going to criticize for the small thing in your journals and projects. My advice take a teacher that is not this one.
He was a great professor. He was always willing to answer any questions I had on assignments. He answered emails the same day and had a very clear blackboard page and grading criteria. Awesome professor, would very much recommend.
Do not take this class with Dr. Falk. The online Blackboard was a complete disaster. The assignments were all over the place and not easy to find. He lectured me with a tone I that was unacceptable when asking for clarification. He threatened to drop me for not reading instructions. I didn't want to stress about it and not learn so I dropped.
Hes doesnt give you accurate instructions! Toughest class so far! Ill never recommend him to you. Take someone else.

His blackboard is everywhere and his intrusctions are confusing and unclear, he does put everything on the syllabus and he does send emails out before hand but they are confusing and group projects become very difficault when your group doesnt know the exact project he wants. 0/10
Dr. Falk is an incredible. He gives clear and concise assignment rubrics and as long as you do the work that is required to you will have no issues. He is always willing to meet up or discuss any doubts students may have. If you're a student who expects to pass without putting in effort, then you'll fail. Seriously great professor, recommended!
If you aren't willing to learn, you won't pass. He will not give out participation trophies, and he will be straight forward during discussion, but that is because putting icing on the cake won't make things better. Class discussions were fun and interesting, assignments and quizzes weren't exhaustive and demanding. No feet kissing here.
Honestly a really weird grader and at times he is a bit rude
If you want to have a professor who gives inappropriate direction or does not teach a class that is geared for real life situations (his own words) then he is your guy. Dropped after emailing the guy a few times he lacks communication skills for someone teaching a communications class. Power struggle? Maybe. Had to rate it above just to post.
If you're looking to get communications credit do not get this class. Seriously this man is the absolute worst! He does not care about you, your grade, or giving you any meaningful advice. Horrible communication skills, horrible instructions, horrible class. Seriously I'd rather have Mike Tyson roundhouse kick in me in the jaw than take this class.

10/10 would NOT recommend. I worked my ass off in his class and still received a C. He's a very tough grader and gives no opportunity to make grades up. He says he available any time for questions, then makes us "refer back to syllabus". Explanation on work is also not clear. If you're looking for an easy A... do not take his class!
Worst class I have ever experienced. Assignment requirements are unclear, does not communicate effectively, and takes points off for irrelevant things. If you have any choice at all do not take this class. I would expect a tough grader to be clear on the goals and requirements of the assignment. Please save yourself and DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!
Louis Falk is a tough professor and a tough grader because he wants you to pay attention to detail. He is always available to answer questions and does give extra credit when needed. I learned a lot from his class, and even though it is tough I ended up with an almost perfect grade.
Very tough grader. Doesn't give many instructions and expects everything to be perfect. For a communications teacher, he doesn't communicate very well.
Louis is an objectively incompetent professor, and I don't recommend anyone take any of his classes. I'm not naive enough to expect a college course to be easy, but I found myself learning more about how to please his high expectations to pass, rather than actual course materials. If Louis was a cop, he'd give you a ticket for going 31 on a 30.

During the winter storm in Feb 2021, my power was out for 4 days and he refused to extend the date of the quiz. He only extended it when I reported him. DO NOT TAKE HIM. Above that, he is not understanding, if something is not how HE wants, he gives you extremely low grades or flat out 0's. Does not provide examples of what he is looking for either
For a communications teacher, he sure doesn't know how to communicate very effectively. His directions aren't clear, his primary response to questions is "Refer to the rubric," not to mention, his rubrics are anything but clear. The quizzes are very simple if you read the textbook, and that was the only upside to this course.
Incompetent. Please skip, Mr. Louis is one of those people that thinks he is always right and a genius but quite the opposite is true. He deserves a lot worse of a comment from me but I have to keep it at this for professionalism. Take one of the other more talented and understanding communications professors.
I took this class online asynchronous, he provided times to meet with him and would answer any questions! About 3 group projects that are easy and weekly quizzes are easy as well!

Professor Falks course is challenging, (not necessarily because the materials hard), but rather because he requires that you actually do the work. His discussions were made to be engaging (like they seemingly are supposed to be.) Quizzes are easy. Groups projects, fairly easy. All the work is laid out in a really organized fashion. Hes available

Not sure what's the issue with this professor. I believe since he knows that the Communication course is not an important subject his ego is hurt enough to reflect it on students. Honestly I wish UTRGV could just get rid of this Professor. Waste of Time. Trust me, he wont teach a thing and dares to grade you like he's the "I know it all"
Great Instructor, learned a lot! I now know how to write a cover letter. The instructor went the extra mile and also helped me with my Vita. Everything in the course is designed to help in the future! Ask and the instructor will respond.
Easy course, just pay attention to feedback and adjust! Most organized course I have taken. All assignments are available weeks in advanced. In fact, you can access the content of the course before the official start date and even complete some assignments.
Numbers don't lie! This class is always full and hard to get into. I was on the wait list with 50 people already enrolled and Dr. Falk let me in. Remember, this is for a class that is not required! If you do what you are supposed to do - easy A.
Class was an easy A, just so the work and there. But Professor needed to be corrected many times when it came to grading, emails took forever to be responded . Overall an okay experience, but for a credits class there are better Professors.
Wouldn't recommend this Professor, honestly deserves a 0/5, but sadly that option isnt available. Hes not clear with how he grades, insulting at times, emails take forever to respond, and overall doesnt take the time to give you clear instructions for the class. I passed with an A cause I had to email him for every single detail about anything.
Professor was clear about what he asked for but when I followed his feedback he seemed to still fail me in certain assignments after talking to him. I realized that his grading method was random. After I told him about his feedback he would then make something else up just to keep me from getting an A. Overall the class was easy, but didnt enjoyit
I never do RateMyProfessor but I made an account just to comment on this Professor. Please Avoid, do yourself a favor and look for other skilled Professors for this course. He wasnt clear with what he asked for and tried anything to bring your grade down. I had more important classes than this one, this was just a credit but he made it hell for me
What a sad man; on the FIRST DAY OF CLASS he literally begged for his students to come here and give him good ratings... ratings don't lie sir. You have the ratings you have for a reason!!!!! And it's not like there's one or two bad ratings so... LOL!

NEVER TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! This course stressed the class out soooo much. My group and I had zoomed with him regarding our assignment to ensure that we were on the right track. He had told us that everything looked great and it needed some minor adjustments. HE GAVE US A 20! How does that happen?! His grading system is WACKKKK! Never again.
this class was something else let me tell you i was taking an intro to Comm class i didn't know i was signing up for a graduate level course straight from the inferno. Man he is hilarious and when i mean hilarious is when he is just sitting there just dishing out failing grades just laughing at the students misery. LOL never take this proffesor
He is very tough grader but if you do what he asks for its alright i dont recommend to do your work last minute with him because he wants specific written responses and he will literally read your discussion and grade if you didnt really cited the mandatory 2 sources minimum and will check the links if theyre relatable to what you wrote
Louis Falk grades based on very detailed requirements such as font size and ignores the content and what we are really supposed to be learning in a Communication class. I feel like the only things he takes points off on are his personal preferences, and we learn nothing helpful about communication.
If you don't have to or have a different option I would opt for that. Was too harsh of a grader and had no consideration for any outside circumstance. Took 10 points off for font size, and another 10 points for our response to "what did you learn from this project?" when it wasn't in bullet points. Went from 85 to 70 over a single project.
I received a D because of the type of professor he is, just to give you a warning when you work on his assignments and you make one simple mistake that will automatically be a failing grade, he doesn't take about 5 or 10 points he jumps straight to 30 to 40 points. If all else fails and all the other course are filled then take him.
This is probably the worst class I have ever taken. I do not know why there aren't other professor options for this course because this man is the worst. He asks for one thing and says another and grades heavily on components that are not important. He is rude and degrading and I wish the university would do something about him- we deserve better
Avoid taking this professor at all costs. The assignments were relatively easy (it's just a bunch of discussion boards and quizzes), but Falk is a very harsh grader. He always gives vague instructions and takes off points for the smallest things. He also assigns group projects. Overall, I'd just avoid taking this course period. He's just awful.

I'm taking him for COMM 1311, and he is probably the most difficult grader I've ever seen. Attendance is mandatory, if you miss 3 classes or don't do three assignments he will drop you. I highly DO NOT recommend him.
This prof. Teaches and encourages innovative tools to impliment practically in the business environment. VERY handy class, he tought me how to use chatgpt to create outlines and much more. He's not easy by any means but he will provide an awesome rubric with straightforward examples. My advice, when you see " optional 1:1 available" GO!!!

Dr. Falk doesn't teach or evaluate students on anything of value. It seems like he doesn't care if you learn communication as long as you choose the correct font size. Just make sure to literally follow his instructions about font, etc, and you will pass. He doesn't look at anything else.
DO NOT TAKE HIM AT ALLLLL!!!!! Hella tough grader and does not clarify his assignments. If you ask for more clarification he will suggest going on a Zoom meeting which only happens at 8 am. If you take him make sure to look over the instructions a billion times before submitting the assignment if wrong you will fail.
He will give you a zero if you do a discussion board too early. You will be stressed about making a mistake in any assignment and taking this class is not worth that stress. He likes things specifically his way, he limits creativity.

Instructs like a drill sergeant. However, his assignments are doable. I earned an A by following his rubrics to a T. You need to be disciplined to get through Falk's course. Tip for group projects - Have someone make sure the submission reflects the rubric. I could have failed my class if I didn't edit my partner's mistakes. He grades harshly.

Second time I took Dr.Falk online as Mass Comm major and I have learned a lot of the essentials and elements that he includes with the readings and interactive assignments. His way of teaching is not for everyone, and by that I mean do not take his class if you are not ready for constructive feedback and research that will actually help you learn.
He takes off points for things that have nothing to do with what we are supposed to be learning. I realized that he never EVER gives feedback about the content. I realized this man must not know the content himself if he just takes off points for issues like font size. I want to learn about communication. This man knows nothing about it.
Stay aware of deadlines. Follow instructions closely, coordinate tasks with your group through the discussion post, and consider submitting early for feedback. No final exam. Focus on instructions, adhere to the rubric, and ensure a polished appearance with attention to details like spaces and fonts. I can't stress enough, READ THE INSTRUCTION!
His assignment instructions and rubrics are not very clear, and he deducts a large number of points for the smallest mistakes. You are not allowed to be creative, nor are you allowed to do anything if it is not the exact way he wants it (which he isn't even clear on). Do not take!!! Find another professor for your mental sake.

The assignments are easy but he is a very specific grader. Go over the rubric many times and make sure you include everything he wants. Half the assignments are done in groups so ensure that everyone is on track. He will go over your assignment in you ask him before the due date which I highly recommend. He takes points off for the littlest things
Dr. Falk has a very specific teaching style that may not work for everyone. He can be a harsh grader, taking off points for minor formatting issues. But if you engage with the material and use helpful resources like Unstuck study for study prep, you can succeed in the class.

This professor was honestly not as tough as others made him seem! I was terrified going into the course but as long as you follow the instructions/rubric to a T, you shouldn't have any issues. I had classmates receive bad grades because they decided to do their own thing! Also, unlike other classes, less words is more here
Going into this course I anticipated it to be a lot harder than it was because of the reviews, but it's actually one of the easier classes I've taken. He gives feedback after each discussion post and the quizzes are open notes. Though he can be a tough grader, if you follow the instructions and ask for help you will get a good grade!
He has no idea how to grade; I did a work that he asked for and he gave me a failing grade. He has no clue on what he is doing. I do not recommend taking his class he does not have extra credit and does not grade good.
I honestly don't understand how so many people fail this class 😭 he literally gave an example for the discussions posts in the rubric (even though he said he doesn't give examples) + he gave opportunities for extra points. He also allowed us to submit the group project ahead of time without penalty for feedback. If you fail it's on you lol
STRICTLY follow the rubric/examples. he took points off my video discussion bc the video file size was "too large"... (2 mins) my grp did pretty well on all the projects. but i feel like it was much easier for me bc my grp coordinated well, SHOUT OUT KATY. you'll be fine as long as you do the work. my grade was mainly bc of missing assignments lol.
