Clear and helpful. It can be hard material, but he explains it really well.
hardest class i ever took. i heard he is the hardest in the department
Not very clear and does not teach material very well. Very hard class.
Doesn't seem to want students to succeed. Would rather trick them on tests etc. Knows the material, just a tough teacher in general.
yeah he scales the grades, but it isnt much help when you studying your ass off and only getting a 60. Tries to hard to trick you with the test questions.....
This guy is boring, but I think it's more the material than him. Easy class with some effort. Tests can be tricky, but weren't bad if you knew what you were doing. I took micro at a state university before I transferred, much harder in comparison.
find another teacher
this man is very boring, but the material isn't that interesting to beging with. as far as the econ dept. goes he is actually one of the easier professors. his tests are all multiple choice and are fairly easy. he also scales the tests.
Hard material, but takes the time to explain it well. The tests are multiple choice, and if you use the study guides you can work your way through with a good grade. Very nice professor. Will take micro with him next semester.
awesome professor. the material is boring, but he tries to joke and keep you interested. explains the material very well and knows his stuff. tests are mult choice and scaled so its not hard at all. also gives extra credit.

This class is a hard and boring class in general but he gives very good lectures and study guides..also gives extra credits..seems to care about students is always asking to talk to them if they feel they are doing bad... multiple choice..hard but scaled very very nice guy im taking him 4 micro def
No Comments
reallyniceguycares about the students great notes hard tests all multiple choice 40 problems 2 tests final 60 multiple choice xtra credits, weird thing got a 56 and 72 for two of my test grades...totally guessed on the final and ended up getting a C+ much better than expected taking him for micro def
boring class, all he does is talk.. class just overall sucks. tests are extremely hard, and if you don't do good on those you will probably fail.. good luck if you take him!
Great guy, very helpful if you need it. His lessons drag on but this is cause of the material; he does his best with it. Tests are multiple choice, scaled VERY generously; I got 100 with wrong answers on the first test
this guy is a very good professor. the stuff is boring so you cant expect to like the class itself. if you study for the tests you will do well because the questions are straight forward from the book.
he is a good guy, but he will not let you make up or take a test late, seriously...
Goes over the material but a lot of stuff isn't very clear. Oftentimes will make errors which makes matters even more confusing. But he's a nice guy and if you ask for help you'll get it.
Worst Teacher ever. He does not help you when you go for extra help, He is very enthusiatic about economics but doesn't explain it clearly. 3 exams and extra credit work that is harder than exams. Unless you are majoring in Economics- DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HIM
Terrible professor. I am an econ major and would never recommend him to anyone. Actually I highly advise people NEVER to take him. He gives no notes and does not explain well. I would recommend almost anyone else in the econ department except him. Take Jaggia instead.
funny guy, very un organized multiple choice everything, do the extra credit and take notes and you got it.
This class is the worst! do not take this class. He is very boring and doesnt explain himself at all. He makes no sense in class. If you are interested in economics and want to do well, do not take his class
Horrible teacher. Doesn't even teach much. Makes too many mistakes when lecturing. Confuses the class and not helpful at all. Overall rating an F.
Excellent professor. He is very interesting, knowledgeable, fair, helpful, and not that hard. He knows what he is doing, and he knows his subject very well. If you are a responsible student, who wants to learn and willing to put effort into your work, take this professor. He is an A professor
SO HARD! He lectures all class and you can pay attention and take great notes but it wont help you on the test. the test is right out of the book so u might as well just skip and read the book. goin to the class is such a waste... Also do the extra credit cause the tests are so hard... got my lowest grade at suffolk from this F'n class!
WORST PROFESSOR! does not exaplin clearly makes a lot of mistakes and is not helpful when you need extra help. Very unorganized and extra credit is as hard as exams.
He just teaches right out of the book there is no real reason to go to class if you just read
he is the worse teacher i had ever have.... does not help students at all, his only purpose is that STUDENTS FAIL HIS CLASS!!!! DO NEVER TAKE HIM
the exams aren't that hard if you read the book and pay attention in class, but the extra credits are somewhat difficult
Stay away from Foglia... he just rambles on and on and on and on and than the quizes/test are almost impossible. He gives extra credit, but it's hard. Very very tough to pass.
I thought he was a good professor, knew his stuff, and presented it clearly. As long as you read the assigned chapters, pay attention in class and study for tests you will be fine. He offers extra credit-- take advantage of it!
A typical college style class, no hw, extra credit is hard but available, tests count for alot, he is also a stickler for attendence
Such a boring class with this professor. Exams are so difficult! EWWW
Boring Class, no exam review.
If u do what ur supposed to do, which is not much. Ur not gonna be far from an A.
he is helpful, a smart teacher and gives easy B's
great professor..!! take him!! he gives a lot of extra-credit. He also very cleaver in answering questions.
He is extremely hard when it comes to tests and he gives no review what so ever. Also, i think he loves economics just a little to much
doesnt review for anything. is hard to understand during lectures. students dont know whats going to be on the test until theyre taking it. no good test reviewing. not a bad teacher thoough. smart guy, funny at times
Worst teacher ever, very rude to students. Just wants his students to do bad in his course
Just wants students to fail. Does not review for anything. Just cares about himself. Talks down to students. Makes alot of mistakes.
Worst teacher ever. Do not take him. He does not help student at all, he always tells them to go to the bolloti center, that is his answer if you ask him for help. Goes to fast when explains the material. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!
So boring i coudnt listen to him... seriously i would try to focus but then i would start thinking about everything else but eco. hard grader and the assignments are so annoying.
Foglia is a very good teacher and I really enjoyed the course. However, be ready to have a lot of homework every weekend!
Lou is a good guy; the subject is a bit difficult and understanding, but he's a good college professor. I hate the subject but I'm glad someone like him is teaching it, be more open minded.
Foglia is a great professor. You have to make sure you do the work and reading but if you put in the time you'll get the results. He'll always try and answer every question with the best answer and will give you plenty of opportunities to succeed if he knows you are trying your best.
Hard teacher, you have to do all of the readings, he asks detailed questions. Nice guy & very smart, but make sure you read and do all of the assignments.
Nice guy, class is pretty boring especially when you are forced into taking econ classes. Lots of homework. Tests are multiple choice. Myeconlab sucks. He is very smart but it is a hard subject
two months into the course and what? this guy is driving me crazy. okay this course is hard in the first place, which makes it kind of suckish in my opinion. but he is sooo hard on us. the homework??? dont get me started. my friends that had taken him prior to me warned me about him. shouldve seen this coming. he's a nice guy i guess... but urghhh
One of the most difficult classes I have ever taken. If you plan on taking it here's what you should expect: Weekly writing/research assignments. Thoroughly difficult tests, thought provoking discussions in class. You HAVE to read each chapter several times. You have to come to every class. Work hard, be rewarded. Slack off and perish.
avoid taking him. even if it means taking at 8:30 class
Prof.Foglia is very intelligent man.For those, who want just to come to school to drink their coffee-dont take him.He likes students, who are involved.Gives homework, but it is not impossible to do them.Always helps when you meet him during office h.I just dont like his assistant. If you are an economics major take him and B.Powell for your ec classes
Useless. He uses the slides that come with the textbook and reads off of them. He laughs when students have questions. At least one mini-paper is due a week, in which he doesn't even grade - his assistant does. Doesn't review for anything. I would just try to avoid taking Foglia.
one of the worse teachers in all colleges..do not take him waste of money
VERYYYYYY HARD PROFESSOR! HE IS VERY STRICT WITH ATTENDANCE AND HE GIVES TOO MUCH HOMEWORK. I DONT RECOMMEND YOU TO TAKE HIM!
This is one of the most horrible professors. Without providing students with a solid foundation he expects them to do complicated work! For example he wants 102 students to read articles from Congressional Budget Office and give the their opinion about it! What is the use if we don't understand thsi lectures and therefore his concepts?
This Professor is TERRIBLE!!! I can't stand him! His classes are incredibly boring and he gives faaar too much homework! Don't take this professor! Even if i got paid to take this class, I would reject it!
This guy is very helpful, although a bit on the difficult side-not him, the work. He is always available and has a passion for economics. Take him if you are willing to work
Say NO to Foglia!!
He knows what he's talking about but he's not good at clarifying things. It seems that he's not a fan of his students no matter how hard we work. His projects, creatives, and test are slightly brutal because the way he words questions is infuriating. Just take another macro professor you'll save yourself a ton of grief and stress.
The worst professor ever. Whatever you do, do NOT take this guy.
getting ready for finals. I think this guy is great and has helped me a lot. Very fair.
this professor is really really hard, he gives a lot of homework and also the exams and tests that he gives are hard.
Professor Foglia expresses such a great interest in the subject and makes it very easy to learn. He does assign a lot of homework but it is very self-explanatory. The exams are extremely easy if you attend class and pay attention. He goes off track sometimes but I really enjoyed having him as a professor.
Foglia is a nice guy and very personable, but he's not the best professor. There is a lot of repetition and some assumptions of "common knowledge" (that really isn't so common) are made by him. Syllabus is very straight-forward and detailed. Overall, though, I didn't learn anything.
the worst prof...avoid him if you can
This professor gives an assignment every week, but he is a good guy! he is very helpful and if he sees that you are interested in the class he will help u more with your grades...
Great Professor, very helpful and always available outside of class. He genuinely wants to help students that are dedicated to learning the material.
wonderful professor. tests are hard. but he can be quite interesting c:
He's a really great guy, however, he assumed that we would know way more about economics than we did. For an intro course, the material was heavy.
He's an alright guy, but expect to teach yourself a lot of the course material. He starts off the class teaching directly from the slides, but then veers off. His assignments are also a pain!
He teaches off slides so a lot of the content isn't very well explained so you should deff read before lectures. His assignments take 2-3 hours to write which was annoying.. but he's okay, personally wouldn't take him again though.
He is horrible. Highly recommend not taking him if you actually want to enjoy economics. He's unreasonable and ridiculous and he expects for you to already know course material so he's awful at actually teaching the subject matter. I had to self teach myself everything so unless you want your EC101 experience to be like mine, don't take him.
horrible, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR EVER!!!!
He teaches from the slides, which are terribly vague as far as content is concerned. He doesn't bring a great deal to the class. The content isn't too difficult, but he barely touches on some really tricky stuff so it's hard to keep up most of the time.
Not a good teacher at all!
Worst professor. The lectures are very boring. He has assignments and he wants it typed. He isn't helpful at all. My classmate asked him for help on the assignments during office hours and he basically said "Good Luck". Exams are really hard. If you're taking economics, I recommend you to take other professors instead of him.
Worst professor ever he basically just teaches off the slides and is not clear on the material. He expects you to know everything about economy and he does not help when asked for help he just confuses you more! I would not recommend him!
literally all of the bad reviews here are from the students that failed. macro is a hard course but no one puts effort into learning the marterial. just show up to class, take notes, ask questions and go to office hours. Foglia likes having questions, don't sit there like a brick if you don't understand. ASK for help
macro is super hard but Foglia is a good guy. if you go to his office hours and ask for help, he'll re-explain the material to you. Usually uses real life examples during lectures to help you understand. Do the MyEconLab it's hard but you'll def learn better with it
If economics isn't your thing and you aren't willing to read and teach yourself along the way and keep up with the online work, don't take this professor. It's easy to get lost or fall asleep during his lectures and sometimes he goes on tangents so if you need someone to hold your hand and teach as if you're 6 years old, i wouldn't recommend him.
he does not care how much you learn in class. do not take class with him.
He doesn't explain well. Save your gpa and find another professor. He gives no mercy to students.
Super nice guy but he's a really bad teacher. My grade must have been scaled at least 20 points though so that was nice. but if you're genuinely interested in learning economics or don't want a totally crap shoot of a grading process I wouldn't take him. If you do, participate I got a much better grade because of it.
Save your money, time, and GPA. This professor claims that if you need help. go to his office hours. I can tell you that by doing that, all he will tell you is, "well, do better on the next test." Explains out of slides, doesn't take time explaining because he just wants to get over the chapters, so it is on you whether you get the material or not.
He just gave the class just two difficult exams. No other assignments.
WILL NEVER EVER TAKE HIM AGAIN! WORST PROFESSOR IN SUFFOLK UNIVERSITY!!!!!! IN LECTURES HE TEACHES FOR HIMSELF AND DOESN'T CARE IF THE STUDENTS LEARN. GIVES 3TESTS AND ONE FINAL EXAM, BUT WITH HIS TEACHING, YOU HAVE TO TEACH YOURSELF. NEVER AGAIN AM I TAKING HIM. YOU BETTER DO THE EXTRA CREDITS IN ORDER TO GET A SCALE IN A GRADE. SO MUCH MINDTAP HW
This guy is terrible. He sets you up for failure. He doesn't know how to thoroughly explain the subject and when asking him specific question, he barely knows the answer himself. It like your in high school again, he cares more about you not using your cellphone and not talking compared to actually understanding the materials. also a wise guy.
His tests are nothing like the homework and the tests are extremely hard. He excepts you to already know the material and will talk to you like you know it. The mintap homework is sooo difficult and there's no point in having it because no one passes it. When you ask him a question he will tell you, you should already know it and just dismiss it.
Tests are a hit and miss in terms of expected and actual grades despite the amount of time spent. The major criticism I have surrounds his teaching style which borders more on a conversation around his knowledge of economics. He is well versed in his subject but is sadly not meant to teach.
Foglia's a nice guy, very humorous. Unfortunately, he's not a very good teacher - the quintessential "read the book and you'll get it" teacher. He lectures with slides but rushes through them. He knows his stuff, just doesn't know how to teach it.
Follow his step, ask for help, do the extra credits, you won't get a grade like D or F. Otherwise is you are not pay your attention on the course. I did very bad on my 2 exams, but I attended all his class and extra credits, I know that I wasn't work so hard on this, but proper grade for me tho. i deserved it.
Three Exams, One Final, 10 Extra Credit. That's about it. ATTEND ALL CLASSES, ASK ALL QUESTIONS, ANSWER ALL ANSWERS, and do the 10 Extra Credit (10 Points on the final grade). His lectures are rushed through and isn't that great. READ THE BOOK, all of his exams are multiple choice and most likely from the book. So understand and read the book.
Foglia is one of the worst professors I've ever had. He tries hard, however he's not very clear in his explanations and he expects everyone to know the material already. His tests were terrible and the final was worth 40% and very hard. I ended up w/ a C+ and I'm usually a straight A student! Don't take him!
He's actually very bad at teaching. You won't understand anything because he loses track of what he's talking about. Macro is a hard topic but he just makes it harder. He really doesn't explain anything good you're better off going online and watching videos because that will help pass the course instead of him. Trust me don't take his class
Just don't. trust me.
Do not do this to yourself, you deserve better
I had a particular bad experience with his class because i did a paper with the wrong topic and he made me present it to a class full of ppl anyways. It felt Incredibly awkward and embarrasing because nothing made any sense. Doesnt explain anything well. Tests are not hard. If you want to learn anything id suggest you steer away from
Professor went way over his head for a level-one class. He treated this class as if it should be a graduate level course, rather than an undergraduate course. From spelling his name wrong on assignment (resulting in a decrease in your grade), to completing the assignment fully yet being told you need to expand (even though one page is the maximum)
His lectures are so dense (50 slides long) and expects you understand this material quickly. Is no help in his office hours. He does enjoy to play mow town music before class, thats the only positive I have about his course!
Foglia is fantastic - every bad review here is from people who failed. They're all saying he expects you to pay attention and attend class, what did you expect? You're in college. He's definitely hard, and assigns a lot of work, but he knows his stuff and he's always willing to help. Would definitely take him again if I needed to. Great guy.
