knows his stuff but has difficulty relating it to students, does not listen to student concerns

Impossible. I'm taking an 8:00 class next semester to avoid him.
DO NOT take him. His class is so hard. He cannot explain anything and gets mad when you don't understand it on the first try.
Not a very good teacher. Goes through stuff too fast and makes things confusing. The only reason I passed was because I had already learned the material in the past.
annoying, he goes through stuff too fast. Only reason i got a C is cause i knew it from the past. I was in my advanced math at my high school, and i had straight A's in math. But i take him and i get a C?!? STAY AWAY, or take his wife!
The man is completely in his own little world. When it comes to we lesser mortals, we wind up lost in it.
Crams a lot of information into small time, if you fall behind or don't understand something, you're toast.
bad...very bad..do not take him
Mean, rude, not nice, unable to explain concepts, too picky, horrible, do NOT take him!!!! He made my life miserable!!
Avoid, can't explain math if he had too, tells you to come to his office for help but doesn't help, just looks at you and tells you what you already know, "try harder" and do your homework.
He is a very unhelpful and uncaring teacher.. you cannot understand what he wants you to do and if you try and get help he is unwilling to do so i would not want anyone to take his course if you have a choice..
think about it!
Good teacher. Work hard and you'll do fine.
He is very hard!!!! Do NOT take him! he sucks big time!!
Avoid at all cost
THE WORST CLASS IN THE WORLD! ACCENT!AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
SUCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Most annoying thing ever...Righcheer. Can't explain anything and his tests are over things he doesn't go over in class. If you're not looking for a C or worse, then take him, but if you need a good grade, DO NOT TAKE HIM.
He's a good prof. Makes everything really clear. However, you do have to study in his class. No easy As here, but that's not a bad thing; esp if you want to learn something.
I just finished 191 and 192 with him, and despite what some may say, he is an excellent professor. I didn't sat that it's easy. You really hace to work hard in 192, but Dr. Kolitsch is very helpful, and he's here to teach. I recommend him or his wife. He's really good!
A complete jerk who is so lacking in personality that even watching ice melt is more interesting than his class. And I am a honor student who actually studies, so it is not like I am a lazy spoiled brat.
Dr. Kolitsch is a good teacher! I was afraid I'd do badly in his class when I read all the comments, but I'm making A's. I don't even do the homework, I just look over the review before each test. The people that say he's bad must not think they have to do any studying for college.
He can't teach worth a damn.
math is hard for me but i made a B in it in his class. i had to get a lot of outside help for this class but my efforts payed off. he was helpful in his office hours and there weren't huge "surprises" on his tests.
He was good at first, but now he is becoming completely unclear. Will help you if you ask and his test are pretty hard.
I hated this class and he was horrid. If you ever asked for help, he'd answer but he'd act like you were stupid for not knowing it before hand. Total jerk!
I thought I was good at math till I took this class. He makes you feel dumb and yelling is his normal voice. If you happen to get stuck with him - notice the outrageous amount of pens in his shirt pocket! makes ME laugh.
Dull and slightly annoying. Very unclear presentation of material. Little help when interpretation of trouble causing questions.
No, No, No! Dont even think about taking him!
2 words! Hell NO!!!!
Do not take him.He goes too fast in class, if you ask questions, you will get a look like you are stupid for asking, no personality, does not help you even if you go see him, which I do not recommend, There are many other math teachers for this subject. DO NOT TAKE THIS ONE.
Ok, here is the deal..he is a horrible teacher..he may be smart but his teaching skills are not so good. He talkes rather loud in class and goes really fast..if you do end up having him notice the pens in his pocket and his high water pants..its will keep you interested..He is a Sick in the Mud..so dont bother askin him any questions
WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!! he might as well have been teaching in japanese. i didnt understand anything he said, he was not helpful when i went to his office and his class is impossible. do not , under any circumstances, take his clss!
I had Kolitsch for Math 140 my first semester here. Horrible teacher! I never understood a word he said! He once told me he didn't have time to answer my question in class, so don't bother asking any! All he says is "Questions about this? Mmm K?" Bad teacher... do not take him!
WTF? I enjoyed this class. He's an excellent teacher, and actually pretty personable as long as you aren't evil to him.
Face it he is a math teacher. His tests are ok because he gives the test he gave last semester as a study guide. Moves very fast and not a very good teacher. Not a bad option if the other math classes fill up though. My situation....
I liked Mr. Kolitsch as a teacher. He is a very friendly teacher willing to help you if you ask. The material isn't to difficult if you go to class. The online homework gets annoying sometimes but its a decent method. I never used the my 140 textbook and i didnt buy the 210 one and got A's. Test are straight from the example test.
Whatever you do...do not take this professor!! You WILL hate every minute of it. All of your homework assignments are on-line, and quizzes are turned in with a remote control.
No matter what teacher you take for 191 or 192, it's a lot of work. Kolitsch is a good teacher. He isn't always that approachable, but he explained things well in class, he graded homework easy, and his tests weren't that hard. Besides the way he says the word "measure" ("MAYsure"), I liked him just fine.
Teaches theory and how the people came to conclusions. Really knows his stuff and was helpful during office hours. If you are gonna pay attention and are gifted in math take him, you'll love it. If not STAY AWAY.
I had Professor Kolitsch during my senior year at UTM (2005 - 2006) for Math 471 and 472 (Abstract Algebra I and II). I made good progress in these courses. He is one of the most influential professors I have ever had.
His Homework takes forever but thats math 191 for you. He is a really good teacher and if you need somthing repeated he is more than happy to do so.
Not a good teacher! Homework is online & easy to forget. Quiz every friday there isn't a test. Tests are VERY hard. He posts practice test online but it only helps if you can find out where the crap he is pulling his answers from. He doesn't explain things well at all! The majority of my class made a C or lower no matter how much we studied!!
The man is smart and very capable of teaching this class, BUT he is very difficult. He works through problems too quickly and is a little intimidating. His tests and quizzes are presented entirely different from the book, so having the book (although it does help) may not save you in this class. Save yourself some grief and don't take him!!!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. The homework is the only attainable grade. Quizzes are ok if you study hard, and tests do not match any of the course material. He is not understanding or clear in his teaching.
Wow, first time in my college career to make an F. I did all my homework... in fact had 87% for my homework grade and went to every class except one. This guy is a real piece of work. The girl next to me missed a test because her FATHER DIED and she let him know ahead of time that she would be at the funeral but he didn't let her make it up. RUN!
No matter who you take for 191 and 192, it's going to take a lot of work. That's just the class. I think he was very clear with his lessons and is much better than the other professors that teach this course. He does speak a little loud, but he lets you turn in homework after class and lets you email the homework if you won't be there. Good teacher
His class was very intersting. Before the exam he post example for last term, so just study from the exam and if you hv any questions just go and ask him he will help you. take this course with him.
HE is the hardest math teacher that I have ever had. DO NOT TAKE KOLITSCH YOUR FRESHMAN YEAR.
He goes way to fast while you're trying to write down the examples he puts on the bored. He skips steps of the problem just because he can do the math in his own head. If you can avoid taking him, DO IT. I wish someone had told me not to take him. His class he ruined my GPA. Yes he knows his stuff, but he can't teach it!!!!!
This is a wonderful teacher! He may have some smart alec comments, but he absolutely knows how to teach! His test are not hard as long as you do well on the homework.
Is a great teacher! If you at least do the homework and do the exam reviews, you will pass! I am awful at math, but the fact that you can redo the homework as many times as you need to get a 100 helps keep my average up! He can be loud and annoying at times, but honestly that's a lot of teachers anyhow. I highly recommend taking him!
He knows what he is talking about but talks very fast and moves quickly. You can redo homework as much as you need to get 100 within the time frame. He gives out study guides for the tests but they are still difficult. NO quizzes. An okay teacher but could use some help
Great teacher. Very straightforward in what he wants, gives study guides for tests and daily homework.
Wonderful teacher. Very clear in what he wanted on homework and gave study guides for the test which helped a lot. Also has office hours and is very helpful
A little more difficult than Math 191 but I still made a high A. He makes it clear what he wants and has bonus points on all of the tests which he has a study guide for. He will also help you during office hours.
Don't take this class, ESPECIALLY if you're bad at math. He'll answer your questions, but be prepared for tough tests. He gives study guides but the tests are way harder. He gives a lot of homework, but it is all online, & the due dates are about 5 days in advance, which is a plus. He doesn't offer extra credit,or make-up tests. It's sink or swim.
Attendance was taken the 1st week of class, but never again after that. All homework is online & you are given 1 week for each assignment, to do between 10-35 problems. (You are allowed to go back and correct the ones you missed.) He gives awesome reviews for all test. This really helped me a lot. Lots of note taking. No early class dismissal.
He's a decent teacher. You have homework every class period but it's not due for a week. His tests were definitely something you need to study for. It was not an easy A, but it was possible.
This is the first time in my college history that I have made an F. This teacher is not one to joke about, he is excellent at what he teaches, but goes through it too fast. Homework is practically useless, and study guides are almost literally hidden. Not one to take if you want to get a trying grade.
The momentum of the course faltered due to the weak textbook and computer based homework. The lectures were enjoyable and informative but overall the class was not. The course had no consideration for other courses or student life. I would take another L. Kolitsch course if it was the only course I was taking that semester. No Thanks
He is not a bad teacher at all, I would even say he's a great teacher. I just simply don't understand what he's getting at. He is not very personable
Hes really not as bad as people are making him out to be. He is someone that is so smart, he doesnt know how to dumb it down for those who arent so good at math. His study guides are just like the tests, and he only requires you to show up on test dates, but the lectures are very helpful. The only downside is the online homework.
Kolitsch is not a bad professor, it's just the way he lectures is most definitely not for everyone. He can literally speed through 3 sections in 1 class period, which causes confusion in the difference in section. The textbook, imo, is not much help either since its not that clear. He does give partial credit on quizzes/exams
This class was so difficult! He doesnt know how to teach in a way that other students can understand. Gives plenty of homework. He is very helpful when it comes to his office hours and asking questions. Gives study guides that are similar to the exam. If you are good with math take him but if you are like me and suck at math dont take him.
Very hard class and felt uncomfortable asking for help. He acted like people were dumb for asking any questions. He made several people in the class cry. He counts off for every little thing (including spelling). I ended up passing somehow though.
At the beginning of the semester I did not like his way of teaching at all. After the semester went on, though, i got used to his teaching and actually started to really like the class. He kind of seems hard to approach but once you get to know him, he is definitely willing to help. Overall, you will have to work for your grade, but he is not bad.
I did well in Math210 because I love statistics. However, I mostly taught myself through the readings. He goes over all the material, but he goes rather quickly and doesn't cover some matters as well as others. The exams are decently easy if you put some time in, but if you don't, it can be a struggle. I would try to take someone else for Math210.
Dr. Kolitsch is a solid professor, but be prepared to work outside of class. There is homework 3 times a week (MWF), but you get a week on each one. The homework is helpful in learning the material, so don't slack on it. The 4 exams and the final all had study guides that mimics the real thing. If you put the time in and study, you'll be fine.
He did not explain the work to us during our zoom sessions and expected us to follow his written out notes, which consisted of only paragraphs of terminology trying to explain the lesson with no examples. I was a high participant student and he avoiding questions to explain how he did his work. He also made degrading comments to his students.
This professor is SUPER strict on grading. I took the elementary math class for education majors and the class isn't a normal math class. The point is to learn how to explain math to children. But if your explanation isn't PERFECT then he takes points away. He even told my friends class that nobody makes 100s. TRUST ME CHOOSE ANOTHER PROFESSOR!!!!!
We had zooms, but he didnt explain how to do the work. If you ask him a questions, he makes you feel stupid. Does not take any late work at all. He gives you notes that are confusing and not very helpful. Homework is due every day unless there is an exam. Extra assignments after tests. Very picky about wording and counts off on little things.
Horrible teacher/person. I dont usually have late work but he refuses to accept it. We had a death in the family and he didnt give a crap just gives out zero. He doesnt teach well and is very rude. I had stuff turned in on time but submission didnt go through and he didnt care just gave zero. All he had to do was look and he wouldve seen it.
He is a horrible teacher. When you ask him for help he just repeats the question and doesnt help you, he makes you feel so dumb. The grading is horrible, 120 points for a test 1 point for Homework (and the homework will be up to 50 questions). Dont take him.
Dr. Kolitsch teaches a hard subject in a fast way. It can be hard to keep up, but a lot of that is due to the material. He gives a lot of homework and quizzes pretty much daily for his class. I respect him as a person, but his haircut is so whack its hard to look at him while hes doing examples on the board. Its honestly distracting.
Absolutely awful. He gives assignments without instruction on how to do them. Quiz every class period. Lecture is incredibly boring and hardly engages the class. He makes you take notes outside of class for some reason and the notes do not fully explain the subject matter.
Dr. Kolitch is a great person, but if you are not a good math learner then he will not have the patience for you. You will earn his respect by going to all of his office hours. That is where you will get the most help.
He made smart mouth comments and taught as though we were babies, so it was very uncomfortable to ask for help. No late work! You can not make up an exam for any reason, whether it be the death of a loved one or a medical issue. He takes attendance! He is a very picky grader! He rarely responds to emails!
Dr. Kolitsch wasn't as bad as this website makes him out to be. You have to pay attention, show up to every class, and do the homework if you want to do well in Math 210.
He has been no help, online notes make no sense, class notes are unclear. He gave us an exam that NO ONE had enough time to finish, most of the class is failing. There is no such thing as a makeup exam, if you miss one, no matter the reason, he gives you a 0 and adds that 15% of your grade to the final exam (Final exam is already 25%). Too arrogant
Awful professor, his tests were bigger than the bible, gave no context with the homework or exams, and didn't help when you asked him questions. Don't even try to tell him he's doing bad at teaching, it'll hurt his fragile ego. I don't know how this man was allowed to teach. One of the worse experiences learning at UTM.
He sounds like spongebob.
He is very condescending when explaining a problem. If he notices that you are struggling in the course, he will call on you a lot during lecture. He provides study guides, but when you get to the actual exam, it is going to be a different. He also includes things that are not taught in class. Homework also has little relation to lecture.
He does not explain the material when doing notes. If you ask a question all he does is repeat what he just did with no explanation. If you are visibly lost he will ask you questions in class just to belittle you. Exams are short, but questions cost many points. They are also 55% of your grade. If you get even a B on an exam your grade will tank.
Very test heavy, literally over half of the overall grade.
Very hard professor but he also understands what he is talking about on another level. He's a good man or seems to be but very hard professor. I would not take him again just because there are easier options.
