Goes too fast, doesn't seem to explain clear enough
goes to fast, but he does provide past exam and quizes to study from
Had him for Math 22, he was okay, but he's much better @ math 22 (calc)
Goes uber fast, but the h/w helps and the exams are pretty easy
lectures are too fast. TAs are great though. attendance in lectures/disc. are mandatory. the extra credit that is offered, is mandatory cuz he adds the extra credit as part of the total points you can get on an exam. if
Hard to read handwriting..he's all over the place, and goes way too fast. Although he does give sample tests that are very similar to the real thing. He marks you down for attendance and if you don't pick up your homework.
worst hand writing in the world!!!! but gives out practice quizes and midterms and finals that are EXACTLY like the real ones, except with the numbers changed! silly little beard too!!
Found him much better at Business Calculus (Math 22) than in Matrix Algebra (Math 23). He is a decent teacher who wants you to understand math well. He gives you lots of help with tests and quizzes. His curve is weird (93 is a B+).
Lecture is confusing... mostly due to his horrible handwriting. He does go really fast so it's hard to keep up. The only place I found help was in discussion.
HE's really easy. He gives you practice midterms and exams that are exactly like the real ones. Its pretty hard to get lower than a C in his classes. Especially because if you are, he'll curve it so you get at least a B
He looks like the KFC guy! Horrible writing though. When he lectures, he's in his own little world. Easy class though.
Easy/basic homework and tests. Just follow sample tests and you should be fine. Make sure to turn in homework on time since it's not accepted after class starts!
if you do the homework and study his practice exams you should have no problem getting an a in the class the practice tests are almost the same as the real tests
No Comments
EAASY! Gives homework every day but u can just copy the answer from the back and still get an 8/10. Plus he gives easy quizes in discussion and tests which he pretty much gives you beforehand in the practice test. Tests are much easier then the homework.
easy, helpful teacher! his course packets are great for midterms and finals. :)
His tests are almost indentical to the practice tests. You can get old tests and old practice tests from previous students and ace the class. Cons - Boring lectures, turn HW in at beg of class. Calculus with him was very difficult for me though.
Straight-forward testing, a bunch of homework, yet boring lectures. Many cheat because enforcement is scarce. Looks like Colonel Sanders. Office resembles a scene from the movie, "Seven."
The best kept secrect of pre-business majors. ;)Only take classes with him. He's excellent.
Midterms are right out of the practice midterms he gives out. He's really understanding about rescheduling things but when he lectures he is so unclear-- makes the easiest tasks seem impossible because of the way he explains them. full of energy!
Super easy. Copy homework from book, study practice exams/quizes and you got a guaranteed A. No point of going to class, teach yourself but overall that class is a joke
Guaranteed A if you just follow the practice exam and do your hw... It's basically a take home midterms and final because it's exactly the same as his practice one. ALl he does is change the numbers.
Not a bad teacher, however, my advice skip lectures in general because they are unnecessary. The material is easy to pick up, especially if consistent with doing homework.
you must be a retard to not get at least a B
Useless business required course, useless professor. I never knew it was a practice of UCR to hire professors without screening their background first. You have to be retarded to not get an A in the class. Avoid his lectures since he just confuses you.
He gives practice exams, quizes, midterms, finals... and they're almost exacly like the real thing. but u have to turn in homework. his teaching is chicken scratches though.
if you have never taken calc before, do not i repeat DO NOT listen to him have one of your friends help you learn it on your own. he's very friendly though and hopefully you have a good TA that will explain it much better than he does. and TURN IN HW...
You can't get a better calc teacher then Ratliff. Even though you can't understand him, his test and quiz packets are VERY helpful, he basically gives you the answers and changes a number or two on the real exam. Just do your homework, very important.
this class is a ****in joke. Ratliff IS TIGHT! -- Never went to the lectures, Never did my homework (copy it), got a B in the class...He gives you practice midterms that are EXACTLY the same as the real midterm -- just diff. numbers.
This guy lectures really crazy with stuff written all over the board that doesn't make sense. He tries really hard to pass you though. Always finding reasons for more credit than you may/may not deserve...
He gives you the midterms and quizzes just changes the numbers on the real thing and all the even hmk answers. He's so hard to understand though, but if you do go to lecture he does some of the hmk. Pretty easy just study the practice tests/quizzes.
He's a nice guy who genuinely enjoys teaching, but he is EXTREMELY confusing. Writes all over the board and is very hard to follow. Study the practice quizes/finals and do the homework- it can really make or break your grade.
what the hell is he talking about??? reading the book will be easier
No Comments
can't teach, talks too fast, can't write! =(
this guy sucks!!! he lectures at 100 mph and you can never read what he writes on the board. its a good thing that the class material overall is fairly easy and that the midterm and final are all multiple choice.
Hi is a very dedicated and organized math teacher. Although his lectures may tend to get confusing, his classroom structure is so organized I am very amazed. Also, he basically gives us the test through his practice packets.
Mr. KFC is a nice guy, but it's too hard to understand what he says and what he writes on the board .. just get your friends to drive u on campus, drop off everyone's homework, go home & sleep.
mr. ratliff is a nice guy, he'll get out of his way to teach u something eventhough you still wont get it. his midterms and quizzes are pretty much given to you. lectures are wack but hes nice. o yeah, he writes like he has a broken hand.
He's a nice guy. It's just he goes too fast. He has a lot to cover though so how can you blame the guy? Hahaha. It's an easy class though so as long as you do your homework and read the book your okay. :)
buy the midterm packets; they are the best $1.60 you'll ever spend for any class as the tests and quizzes are based on them. don't even buy the textbook. copy the homework and don't bother going to lecture because you won't understand him. easy class!
he is very confusing to understand, but his class is very easy. all the tests and quizzes are provided for you, the numbers are just changed and the course curve is always very very high.
He is a very nice and dedicated teacher except for the fact that he talks way too fast in lecture and basically writes on the board until every white space is covered. The class is easy as long as you study for the tests from the packet of notes.
he's really easy. gives you exams beforehand. however, beware cuz his lectures zoom by. make sure you go over the book before or after lectures.
I used to go to his lectures and try to make sense out of the materials, but it's pointless. All you need to do is copy the HW out of the solutions guide, study the quiz and the packet, and you're all set! Got an A at the end... he's so easy!
Midterm and final are just like what is in the study packet. Just copy the homework from somebody. Lectures very fast and writes on every inch of the board. No reason really to attend lecture.
Ratliff is a real nice guy and his class is a cinch if u turn in the hw, study 4 quizzes and midterms, and cram for final. Advice: study for the tests and make sure to turn in hw on time. If you don't understand what he writes on the board ur not alone!
i hated having him... i went to office hours and all he did was yell at me.. i got no help on my homework and he was just really mean personally i would have to say one of the worst i have ever had.
he's actually not that hard. i never went to class and end up getting B+. you just need to look at the pratice midterms and you'll do fine! TAs help too. just go to class and turn in your HW and you'll do fine. REMEMBER TO DO HOMEWORK!
mr ratliff is sooo nice! if you go to his office hours, he is ALWAYS there and ready to help. also, if you have a question and ask him through email, he always responds within a day. he's a great teacher
A pretty nice teacher, but extremely boring and gives out confusing lectures. however the tests are easy if you do his practice tests.
All you need to do is turn in homework everyday and study the practice tests. He pretty much gives you the answers to the midterms and final. And you can copy the HW answers from the back of the book.
EASY class...he gives you all the exams in advance, just changes the numbers on the real thing...make sure you turn in HW, it's a big part of your grade. Nice guy, gives you your grade for exams on the same day. I just memorized stuff and ended up w/an A.
Cannot teach for sure.
This class is very easy if you turn in all your homeworks and show up at the quizzes. The ONLY downside is that it's at 8AM. He spoonfeeds you everything and there is a lot of extra credit. A LOT. Find someone who took it last quarter, it's all the same material.
Math 22 was so easy, just practice with the hw and you'll ace the class. Math 23 however, sucks! The tests are all T/F, it's so tricky that even if you know the stuff you'll sit there staring at it.
This guy may be boring as heck, but he is a really nice guy. Always looks to give the student the benefit of the doubt. Also, those practice tests are worth their weight in gold! don't bother studying anything else for the tests!
Professor Ratliff is a good guy, but he writes like a 5yr old. Class is easy, just turn in the HW, take the Quizes, and study for the Midterms. Not a hard class, just stay on top of things and ur guaranteed a B or better.
Lectures are boring and useless. He can't teach. He teaches at 8am. It suck.
He looks like colonel Sanders. Dont go to his lectures they are too fast and complicated to understand. Get help at the learning center instead. He is a horrible teacher, his grading scale is rediculously complicated. He only teaches at 8:00am and he is the only one that teaches that class.
didnt go to lecture... got an A in the class... just do all ur homework and do well on test.. u will be fine
his lecture is pointless, just to come in and turn in hw...his handwriting is horrible and he goes through lecture really fast. Just get help from your TA and understand the practice midterms cause thats what helped me do well in the class
Really easy class. His lectures are a bit hard to understand, but he gives you all the quizzes and exams in advance, he changes the numbers for the real thing.E-mails you exam grades the same day. nice guy.
easys class as long as you turn it in your homeworks in time and study the midterm package for the quizes and exams. easy A.
the man scribbles like a 3 year old; lectures are pointless because he covers material so fast that you can barely understand what he's taking about (if at all) and even if you DO understand good luck trying to read his chicken scratch; however if you study his midterm packet you should be fine
Goes so fast in lecture. should slow down and should have given at least 2 hours for the final instead of an hour and a half. an hour and a half was way too rushed for a final and it is very hard to check over the work and finish 100 questions.
VERY MESSY, his notes are everywhere, very unorganized. All of his tests are in a solution guide, therefore, you have all of the tests. He's easy compares to other math teachers.
This guy is soo awesome. He's the type of person you could draw or hang out with. He seems to be hard but he's very helpful. Always go to discussion, they help. Do your homework too. Really, Ratliff Rocks Ass! And it's hilarious when he raises his pointer finger and say "Ah"
His writing sucks. I can write**** better with my toes than he does with his hands. Nonetheless, his class is very easy IF AND ONLY IF you do all the homework assignments.
Get ready to see this guy in the same white suit for a whole quarter. His notes are so messy. it makes me feel like im taking chinese. he is a harmless fellow. I think he should retire and act in the next lord of the rings. whatever! Just take him, cuz he is easy and i think the only professor teaching a nonsense matrix algebra course.
Do homework study for tests, easy class
He's so passionate about his work, he wants every one of his students to learn. Unfortunately, his lecture and notes are a bit to understand, but I applaude him for his effort. He's a professor to be respected highly.
Although his lectures can be confusing, he tries his best to cover all the materials needed. His writing are at times hard to read. However, if you cannot understand his lectures or homework problems, he is extremely helpful during his office hours. He is passionate about the subjects. Be sure to attend all the lectures, or you will be lost.
Great class. A bit fast paced but if you do the homework you'll be fine. Discussion sections don't hurt either. The professor is very passionate.
don't go to class, all you have to do is do the homework, review the practice tests/quizzes and you will get an A
Took two classes with him. Just gotta show up and do the work and practice tests are provided for you so the class was very easy. Id be concerned if anybody couldnt pass his class.
he's easy if u study on your own
horrible lecture-er!!! cant understand!
He is a really nice person and a great teacher. His class is not considered intersting, but i still love it.
confusing teacher at times but his reader makes up for all the help you need on midterms.
Class is very easy.. All the answers to HW are given at the beginning of the quarter, so if you're lazy, just copy it.. Gives alot of extra credit.. He writes ugly and it's hard to understand him sometimes.. Everyone should get an A, at least a B in this class.. Overall good teacher and easy class
Not a difficult class. Lots of extra points are given. Vector spaces can be really confusing and abstract but the material is generally easy to understand.
very nice professor. may be a little confussing at times but always very helpful and considering. provides practice exams that are extrememly helpful.
Disorganized.
GREAT TEACHER! VERY CARING ABOUT HIS STUDENTZ...ALWAYZ WILLING TO TAKE THE TIME TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONZ...JUSS GOTTA TURN IN HW IN THE BEGINNIN OF CLASS DONT GOTTA STAY FOR LECTURE...GIVEZ PRACTICE TESTS THAT ARE ALMOST EXACTLY LIKE THE REAL TESTS...JUSS STUDY ON YOUR OWN GOOD LUCK PPL
The nicest teacher ever. He cares about his students. If you have any problems/concerns, he would be happy to help. Attendance is checked through homework (you have to turn in/pick up your homework every morning before class starts).
He's super duper nice! If Aristotle and Colonel Sanders had a son, it would be him! class is relatively easy...lectures are very unorganized and rushed...but you learn a lot through DOING the homework...dont just copy the answers. tests are easy.
Mr. Ratliff is a great professor, he is consistent with his office hours and is always willing to help. Though he teaches extremely fast, his tests are relatively easy if you attend class and do your homework. He gives bonuses and homework for every class.
This guy is eccentric, but nice if you give him a chance. His class is really easy, but he is hard to follow.
Lectures very quickly and does the problems very fast. If you want to do good in his class read before the lecture and turn in all your homework assignments ON TIME!
Ratliff is cool. He's always in his ofc during his hrs and he genuinely wants his students to do well. Altho a 1 hr class makes his lectures lightning quick (so you might as well come at the end to pick up/drop off your daily HW), as long as you read the text you should do fine. Do not miss any discussions, and make sure to pick up HW daily!!!
For those who complain so much about how he teaches, he has to. the stuff he teaches is usually taught in a span of one year and he has to do it in 10 weeks. however, he gives plenty of extra credit, if you go to discussion, you`ll get extra credit. theres always extra credit on homework and all quizzes and midterms are in his practice book.
Great professor, great man.
He's is a very good teacher. Does the math problems super fast. The class to me is severely easy after taking 9A/9B. Just taking the class for fun. FOh Soh. Lots of homework. Its only fun the first hour after that it becomes tedious. Everything is super easy. if you people want to see hard take 9A and 9b with foreign teachers. T_T
not a hard teacher, but calculus is never easy. He gives you the practice midterms and quizzes and they are VERY similar to the actual tests. Kind of hard to understand and lectures very fast, but overall pretty easy (do the homework). I got an A without much studying
Prof. Ratliff is a great professor. He wants his students to do well. He tries to do most of your hw with you in class so you wont have much to do.
Prof. Ratliff may not be clear with his lectures, but he make a great professor! He makes homeworks, quizzes, and most def. midterms so easy for everyone. Buy the blue book and you'll be set to go. Don't need book. AMAZINGLY NICE!! =) Is NOT UNfair with grading. Attendance is must - for turning in homework. GO TO DISCUSSION! It'll help you.
Prof. Ratliff is a really nice professor....however, the class isn't as easy as it may sound. Go to lectures, discussions and his office hours.
He's not that good at lecturing and he goes extremely fast. However, Practices quizzes and Midterms are all the in the blue book, which is extremely helpful. It is pretty much the same as the test. Lots of free floating extra credit. Do all your hw or you will get docked, go to discussion for xtra credit. Do all this= A
hes a pretty caring teacher; he wants you to pass the class so theres a bunch of extra credit on homework. the homework and stuff you need to do to get a good grade. just know the stuff in his blue book. hes old and funny. its a really easy class. he's basically giving you an A. if you dont get one. youre dumb. lol
Study the practice midterms in the reader you buy and you will be fine. He doesn't teach that well at all, because he skips steps when doing problems. Very friendly and willing to help during office hours.
i am not a fan of mr. ratliff. he does practice problems way too fast and makes them look way harder than they are. if you can learn by yourself, open the textbook and go for it. otherwise, good luck trying to figure out what his notes mean.
Really easy class. He gives practice midterms and practice quizzes with answers. Does almost all the homework problems during lecture. Attendance is a must, he will deduct points if you don't attend class. He does take attendance by turning in homework assignments during lecture. He is a great professor. I would recommend him.
He does go over the material really fast, but he has no choice because this class does cover a lot of materials. He seems very nice..he sincerely looks like he wants us to pass the class, and tries not to do surprise us in anyway in the course. i really liked ratliff
He is a great professor. It is difficult to keep up if calculus is new to you, but the discussions help a lot. He is very nice and an easy grader. He even let me take a midterm that I missed.
easy A if you actually look at what he's doing, and if go to class and try.
Extremely easy class!!! He goes over the homework in class and hands out all the quizzes and midterms practice problems. Gives out lots of extra credit points by the end of the quarter. Best math teacher ever!!!!
HANDS DOWN BEST MATH TEACHER. He shows compassion in teaching Calculus for Business students. His lectures definitely help when it comes to homework, quizzes, and midterms. If you go to every lecture, you are pretty much guaranteed an A or a B. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK; it is definitely not necessary.
he is very nice. lectures arent clear. but the only important thing in his class are just homework, which he goes over. book is not necessary. just study from the study guide for midterms and finals. easy A.
Good teacher. Easy just listen and take notes and study themhe gives you practice midterm that is same as midterm with different numbers. ALL MULTIPLE CHOICE.EASY!!!!!!!!
Louis Ratliff is an eccentric individual and an excellent Math 22 teacher. According to my T.A. and several other math veterans, Mr. Ratliff during the prime of his decade contributed much to the UCR Math department and even solved a considerable amount of math problems unsolved before, case and point Mr. Ratliff is a highly intellectual individual
Very efficient, always prepared, & above all, a kind and experienced individual. Lectures may be unclear because of all the material that has to be covered in a short amount of time, but Ratliff is easily accessible. 10 quizzes, 3 midterms (MC), daily homework, tons of extra credit. Go to class, pay attention, & get an A/B. No need to buy the book.
Prof. Ratliff might be unclear & might go over the materials fast but he is by far, the BEST math Prof. that i've had at UCR. just gotta really pay attention in class. He's very nice & chill! :] TA's are very helpful ESPECIALLY john dusel. easy class if you do all of your work, go to discussions and actually LEARN the materials.
People think it is a hard class because it goes by so fast, but it is an easy class because a lot of help is offered. The TA's are extremely helpful. The book is not needed never opened mine. There are 3 midterms and the 3 midterm is considered your final. Dont mess up in the beginning!!!!
Math 22 is an extremely difficult class because they shrink almost two years worth of math into one quarter. Ratliff tries his best to make everyone pass. If you fail with ratliff, even though it is a tough class, you might as well drop out of college! John Dusel is the best TA for this course! I'm so glad I switch my prof to Ratliff!
He always seems to run out of time in his lectures. It's the time that forces him to talk really fast and go through notes extremely faster. However, he wants everyone to pass and he always gives the class quotes to motivate. Good guy.
He's one of the best math teachers. He does go a lil fast but he offers tons of EXTRA CREDIT. If you need help, look for it in the beginning dont wait! Dont miss class! If you need help go to your TA. I loved my TA: John Dusel, he is very helpful&was basically making everything clear. Class was easy! If you have taken Calc before it is an easy A!
Ratliff's course was not easy, but he designed the class so that bonus points and incentives are given for doing homework each time, going to class on the days he checks attendance, and extra credit for participation in discussion. The material is hard, but he knows what he's talking about. Not a walk in the park, but you can pass.
Definitely can pass with at least a B. Don't waste money on textbook (mandatory Webassign). His lectures go super fast so go to office hours. TA's are EXTREMELY helpful. His practice midterms are similar to tests. 3 midterms. Offers a lot of extra credit. As annoyed as I was during the course I definitely recommend him though.
If you have to take Math 22, take it with him. He gives study guides that are EXACTLY like the midterms and quizzes. Always do the homework, if you don't do it, expect to get a low grade. He gives a lot of extra credit in the end. An easy B class, but I got an A.
since the pace of this course is fast, he makes it as easy as possible. he gives you practice quizzes & midterms that are almost exactly like the actual one. 3 midterms, no final. take him if you want an easy time in math 22 !
He's the EASIEST math professor ever! He's chill about everything including make up midterms! The only thing is that he takes attendance 10 times throughout the quarter. But all the things he talked about in the lectures will be on the hw so make sure you be there! And his midterms are EXACTLY the same as the practice midterms! So take him!
The class is tough, but it's only because they crammed three classes into one. It's not his fault he has to rush through the course. He tries to make things as easy as possible for students like providing practice midterms and quizzes. He's very lenient and tries to give bonuses wherever he can. Overall a good teacher.
This teacher is easy but if you underestimate him you will fail. Lectures are extremely important but he goes through the material super fast and its hard to understand. But his practice mid terms are very similar to the tests. Easy B class, must work for an A
Ratliff was a great professor. Although his lectures were crammed with multiple sections, he was clear and understandable. I don't understand how students can't do well in his class. His midterms and finals are almost identical to the practice exams.
Sadly as business majors we have to take this course. It is not that bad, however Ratliff's teaching is VERY fast paced and not all that informative. I learned everything from the homework help videos and my TA. Attendance is taken ten times throughout the quarter, so just be aware of those dates. Just get your stuff done and fairly simple class.
this class is very fast paced. i rarely went to class because it was useless, but u will be deducted points if u miss class, i learned everything from the online hw and my TA. he gives u practice midterms and they are almost identical to the actual midterm. take him hes not too bad, funny guy.
Nice professor, every question from midterm was in his practice sheets, it was easy to get a A.
Class is very boring and very fast paced. don't underestimate his age, he can be hard to understand and is not loud-spoken but you should try to understand. if you studied, it should be an easy a. tests are multiple choice and staright to the point. pretty easy.
Ratliff is a very good math professor. This is a fast paced class so make sure you attend the lectures as he sometimes takes attendance. His quizzes and midterms are identical to the practice ones included with the syllabus. Homework was easy. Pay attention in class and you will definitely pass.
This class is tough if you underestimate it. takes attendance so make sure to go to lecture but he will tell you what days he is going to take attendance. a soft spoken professor so make sure you can hear him. the course is fast paced but thats not his fault. hes a nice guy and tries to help students out with bonus points whenever he can.
Very nice professor! He covers material very fast in lecture but not because he's a terrible professor, but because there's too much material. Provides study guides for quizzes, midterms, and final. Don't need textbook. Easy A if you're not lazy and just do the work.
Ratliff I not a good professor. He only goes over HW questions in class and doesn't teach the material, not his fault though. What I love about him is that he is very compassionate and caring. One of the most understanding professors I've ever had. Just do the work and spend time outside of class really learning the material and you will get an A!
He talked extremely fast. The problems he went over in class were just like the homework ones, just different numbers; same concept. I learned solely from the online hw. It teaches you and at your own pace. No point in rushing to copy down his notes. Just do the hw. Extremely nice and goes to all extents to help you out.
This course is something you don't want to fall behind in. Make sure to stay on top of the material. TA provided more help. Very generous in terms of grading scale. Class isn't too bad, even though at times it was hard to understand what he was saying because he is soft spoken. Other than that, just do the hmwk, ask questions and you'll be fine.
The class is fast paced due to the amount of material he has to cover. However, if you took calculus before, the class is mostly review. Ratliff is very compassionate about the subject and understanding of students. Students are given multiple opportunities to raise their grades. He is probably one of the best professors I've had so far.
You shall not Pass! this dude looks like Gandoff! but all kidding a side this guy is a awesome teacher you just got to keep up with the work and youll be fine. Clearly show in class examples that are helpful for the exam.
He is one of the best I've ever had in math. He is really great at explaining calculus. He grades fairly and helps your grade with review sheets for every quiz and exam. His notes are sufficient and no tb is required. He tries his best to help us learn the material by offering extension help. He tells you when he takes attendance. Work for Easy A!
Very easy class. He tells you exactly what kinds of problems to expect on the quizzes and mid terms, so there is no excuse for you not to get a good grade in this class. Going to lecture is not necessary unless you don't understand something. Usually the worked out problems he gives you are all you need to understand the material.
Louis Ratliff truly is an inspiration. He looks like he is in in his 70s and yet he never fails to be punctual. One thing that really makes professor Ratliff memorable is that he values the principles of a student more than that of the students grades.
