Brilliant mind that challenges your belief system. Excellent learning opportunity!
Makes you think you are going to fail the semseter, but lets you do notecards for extra credit which bumped my grade from a low c to a b. :) Don't get lost in his office when going for help.
One of the best prof's I have had. Had him for Saturday classes over the summer and I actually looked forward to it. he is an great and brialliant person- be warned though, he expects you to work.
an odd character
great guy, always nice, gives lots of extra credit oppotunities, one of the best.
Very confusing and not nice when approached for help
I was very confused about this class at the start of the semester, like what the point was, but after I failed all of the tests and got a B at the end, I was happy. He gives lots of extra credit, so take it!
I would recommend Dr. Woods. His character is offensive to some but humorous to others. His lectures are disorganized but interesting. His tests are hard, but his extra credit assignments can bring just about any grade up to an A or B.
very long winded, talks about an issue for weeks. tests are kinda challenging, but extra credit should get you an easy A or B. very odd guy with a different perspective on things.
He is a really nice guy, but he lacks organizational skills. Furthermore, he talks a lot about politics which has NOTHING to do with business statistics. Class isn't too difficult, but his lectures are enough to drive one insane!
HE IS THE WORLDS MOST BORING PROFESSOR! However, just sit through the torture all semester, fail your tests...do the xtra credit and papers...and you will pass with an A or B....this is my 3rd time with him and I have never learned anything!
Where should I start? Quite possibly the most biased, unhelpful professor I have ever had. Don't bother studying for tests, Just pray. A lot. Offers notecards at the end of the semester, in order to make everyone pass.(But not before scaring you into thinking you failed.) Take him at your own risk.
Professor Woods is one of the worst professors I have ever had. He spends the whole lecture talking about his political views, then a day before the test talks about what we are supposed to be learning. The tests are ridiculously hard. He does give chances for extra credit though.
This class is ok! But, you need to read all the chapters basically learn most of the material on your own! There is 3 quizzes (no final) and article summaries you have to do! He gives some extra credit at the end which is good!! But, he spends most of the time preaching his opinions in class!
I dropped his class....I did not learn anything, that I could not have gotten from my book. I thought that his teaching style sucked...but I would never tell him that! He is scary!
Easy professor. Lectures can be boring, but you can do well if you just catch the main points. Gave review sheets for the 2&3 tests and info fully covered test. Read the book and you will do fine. The extra credit counts for a ton of points He helps you in any way he can if you show youre trying
This professor seems like a realy nice guy, there is no doubt about it but he does not teach you anything. Test are extremly hard even if you are a genious. My sugestion is take a different professor before it's late!!!
Get to know him. He makes class entertaining, and will help you whenever he can...and he usually does.
His teaching style is not the greatest, but if you read the book and attend class, you will be OK. And be sure to do the extra credit that he offers...it's not hard and he gives lots of opportunities.
this guy does nothing but bring in articles that piss him off and just talk about them. he ahtes the governemtn and bases his class discussions accordingly. must read in order to pass. weekly article reviews do help so do them.
This class is extremely boring. He talks about politics way to much. The class average on one of our tests was a 45.
Worst teacher ever. Did not cover material on the test. Class test avg was a 45. This class will only drop your GPA. Mine went down and I was a good student with a 3.8
Lou is great. The people that don't like him don't understand his teaching style. It can get frustrating at times, it all came together in the end. If you go to class, study for the tests, and do all the the extra credit you will walk away with an "A." Would take again in a heartbeat. Great Teacher.
This class is not bad, but boring at times. He lectures each class, and tries to make it interesting by throwing in his polticial views.Test are vague and sometimes do not reflect anything that was taught. Lecture notes are provided if you ask. If you want a good grade, just know his opinion on everything and go with that on the tests.

This professor is indeed horrible. you might think its wworth giving it a shot, but its not. his tests are on average way below even 50. his lectures are boooring. i droped out because i didnt want to bring my gpa down. hes the devil
this might have been the easiest statistics class i have ever taken just because i knew it pretty well beforehand. otherwise, i see how it can get frustrating... but his merit is not in teaching you statistics as much as teaching you to think for yourself and exposing you to different views... had a profound impact on my personal development.
The class is boring and you fail almost all the tests...he gives extra credit, do it and youre set. i failed all the tests and ended up w/ a B+ because i did the extra credit, how can you go wrong..?
This man has no idea what he is talking about. Spent a whole semester in his class, came out knowing less than I did when I went in. He rambles way to much, and gives tests that are so hard and cover more material tan he tells to read. Would never take him again unless he was the only prof. available. Stay away at all cost.
He's very passionate about economics. You learn more about his life, which ties into all aspects of his lectures, as well as current economic events. He makes sure that you know his views. The tests are extemely hard, but there is massive amounts of extra credit. Do it and your fine. PLUS, show up for class, he likes that.
3 TESTS...that's it!!! Kiss your grade goodbye if you mess up on 1! Do all extra credit. Very helpful teacher though, if you miss a test he will let you make it up. Interesting material, READ the book and study all his notes he gives online. Funny to listen to.
His class is really hard but if you show up and do the extra credit you will end up with a B or a C even if you fail the tests.
This guys is smart. He really knows his stuff, but expects you to read the material before you get to class. He doesn't talk about the book much, but rather relates everything to current events. He reads lots of essays in the class and assings you to read 10 articles for the semester. Do those articles, do all the other extra credit & READ THE BOOK
like everyone else said if u show up for class you will be fine. i never had the book or studied for his tests but made a b in the class!!
realy good teacher, do the work and go to class and you will do well, easy a if you do the work and sorta pay attention, but dont expect a free grade.
kind of loses track in lecture but more than willing to give you extra credit. I passed the class based on extra credit point alone!
all i can say is wow... do NOT be a liberal and take his class. first day was painfully filled with very extreme libertarian opinions. i'm sure he's a good guy, but comes off very egotistical.
He is a great teacher! He is very forward. Don't take him if you are close minded or a liberal or a conservative; he'll give it to you like it is. He is a very smart man!
A big grumpy grandpa type; obviously a smart guy but constantly wanders off onto boring topics. There are only 3 exams which make up your grade; I got a C on all three, but did all the extra credit and weekly assignments and got an A for the class. The exams are pretty hard, I got the highest grades I think. MAKE SURE TO ASK FOR EXAM REVIEWS.
He has no patience for fools nor is his class easy but it is interesting and I enjoyed listening to him destroy idiots in our class.
doesn't teach clearly. It's hard to understand what he's trying to teach. Do not take him!!!!!
doesn't teach clearly. It's hard to understand what he's trying to teach. Do not take him!!!!!
He was an easy A. Extra Credit is your friend. I most of my tests but I showed up daily and did the extra cred. He is an odd fellow.
Took for Econ of Bus Decisions; kind of boring but funny at times. Drives points home repeatedly so that you learn it. I actually learned more in this class than any other Econ class in the past. Tests are pretty tough.
Terrible teacher. No books. Went all over the place. Infused his politics into his lectures.
A good professor - makes you THINK! A positive person. When taking his class try to get the overall picture. Definitely read the book - he chose a very easy to read and helpful one. I think solving more problems in class would be helpful. At the end you will not be a master of statistics, but will have a good general understanding of the subject.
I HATED this class! Not a very good teacher.Very smart, but he is unclear of where we are in the text or what we should be doing.Very boring.I am an A student, but never have I been so miserable and unmotivated in a class as I was in this one.I dropped the class. To get an A in this class you must read the text and study, and have interest in this subj
Worst teacher I've had in 3 years! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! He was all over the place, and I didn't understand a word that came out of his mouth because he is so scatterbrained. I had no idea what to study for the test, so I failed, and was forced to withdraw. Trust me.......save yourself, dont take him!!!!!
Knows what he is talking about, you can learn a lot from him. Tests are extremely hard. Do all of the assignments and extra credit and you will pass no matter what you get on the tests. He loves when people speak up in class also, which can make a difference in your grade. He takes attendance on the first day and after that he doesn't.
He sometimes makes you feel stupid when you ask questions, and he is very intelligent. He LUCKILY gives GREAT extra credit towards the end of the semester. I failed just about every test, but because I did all the extra side work and credit I got a B! I would def. say to attend class even though its not mandatory and take GOOD notes. and READ!
He knows the material and wants the students to understand his lectures. He can be confusing because his lectures deviate from the test material. However, he does offer many extra credit opportunities and will help students outside of class. I made an A without much prior knowledge of economics.
If your bored in this class you shouldn't be in college.
Intorduced me to thought.
He gives absolutely no notes for studying for the exams and cannot stay on track to save his life! Our class was full and within the first couple weeks of class it trickled down to less than half. He is an awful commnicator and is very demeaning if you try and interact with his lectures. He's basically the God of economics and you're an idiot.
I thought class was gonna be easy, cause I was good at economics in high school, but I was wrong. sometimes its hard to know where we are in the book, and he talks bad about politics all the time(which isn't that bad) but I need to learn something, dang. My GPA might be goin down cause of this class. think before you take his class.
definitely an interesting person. very opinionated about his political views and is not afraid to share them. his tests were a little hard to understand because of the way he did the questions. but he is fair and will let you do a ton of ec.
Of all the MBA professors, this guy gets it. He belongs in a more difficult program, but is still here--a real asset to UNF. He will challenge you intellectually, and has little use for textbooks and notes. He will test on relative and insightful material, but will not put up with unintelligent people. If you are an idiot stay away.
This course is supposed to be about Managerial Economics. However, the professor tends to stay on macro economic issues most of the time. He hardly uses the text, though you will need it. Pay attention to his syllabus. If you want to score some points with him, tell him you hear he really likes John Maynard Keynes....
He is the worst teacher I've ever had. He's so bad that he told us the first week that he knows he's the worst teacher but to not bother complaining because the Union is his employer not UNF! He gives zero notes for tests and his tests are extremely difficult. He can't stay on one subject for more than 2 minutes. He's not a good communicator at all
You will need to pay attention to his lecture material as well as the assigned chapters in the text. If you understand his views you should do well on the exams.
It is nice to have a professor with opinions.
Don't take this class. There are three tests, and they are artificially hard because he puts stuff on them that he never went over and/or is not mentioned in the book. This is because goes off on an absolutely remarkable number of tangents during class that have nothing to do with what we are discussing.
A great professor.
Woods is THE WORST professor at UNF. He gets off on trying to impress undergraduates with obscure words and terms. He actually knows nothing about economics, and it is well known that he only survives at UNF by his tenure. Avoid at all costs unless you enjoy random lessons from wikipedia and a load of crap that would kill an elephant.

I found this class, and the professor, to be one of the best I've had at UNF. No textbook required, but make sure you read the articles he mentions in class. Exams are called "quizzes", and are usually essay questions, but he's a pretty easy grader. Just show that you understand the topics covered and you'll do fine.
Do not sign up for this class! Woods doesn't teach material that students are tested on. He uses class time as a means to stand up at the front of the class and rant about his personal opinions on worldly issues. His syllabus is completely unorganized and he is utterly impossible to communicate with outside of the classroom.
as you can tell my the picture above, this guy is a character...lectures are incomprehensible and have nothing to do with anything other than his politics...just ignore lecture, do homework and read the book and you will pass, as he curves everything at the end...awesome moustache
I'm not sure he is teaching what he's supposed to. You read so many articles to where you get lost in too much information. He requires that you remember what economist said what (????) - I couldn't find any applicability with this class. It was VERY dry!
This class is a joke. Lectures are unstructured, have nothing to do with the material, and consist of him mumbling through his overgrown mustache. He constantly says "Hmm?" and "is that right"? randomly and frequently throughout his ramblings. Avoid if at all possible.
As many have said, he is opinionated. You must read in order to do well on the multiple-choice tests. Most of his lectures don't coincide with textbook reading. Offers extra-credit and his article summaries are simple and exposes you to many different viewpoints. Taking his class was informative, but taxing.
Class was horrible, i rarely went and when i did i was so confused. I got below (way below) 50 on every quiz/test and got a B in the class. Just do the extra credit index cards(as many as possible) and you will be fine.
The most pointless class ever. Don't know how I pulled off a B+, just did a lot of extra credit! His tests are straight up impossible & you will fail every one of them, but as long as you do the weekly articles & all the extra credit possible, you will get a good grade--don't know how, but you will. Go to his office--it's hilarious--messy and crazy
don't have to come to class because all he does is reads articles off line that are not on the tests. Tests are EXTREMELY hard, he calls them quizes. There are only 25 questions on each quiz. READ all the chapters that will be on the quizes and just pray that it will help.
The tests are really hard and I failed all of them. Although, I still managed to get a B in the class because I still did all the index cards. As long as you do the homework, which is pretty easy, and extra credit you will do fine.
Do not take this class if you are interested in cultural geography. However, if you enjoy a libertarian perspective of politics and economics, take this class. The class consist of 10% geography and 90% politics/economics. He is a character, but in this course, you will learn practical life applications.
So, this is only my second week of the class.... and, so far it's so off the wall! He is a very bright man if you can get past his random tangents! I love it! I find the assigned reading really interesting so far and love that we have to read journal articles for weekly assignments.
Totally random class. E-mails you the notes he reads during class after class so you don't even have them for the lecture. He's kinda all over the place with his lectures. The most boring class.
If you're looking for structure & spoon-fed assignments this is not the place for you. The assigned readings & articles are interesting. Grades, exams, etc.. are not important to Dr. Woods. He wants you to grasp the concepts. Go to his class, stop by his office a couple times, participate in discussions, do the extra credit & you'll do just fine.
As far as the course goes... Come to class, do ANY extra credit he mentions + some....as far as the tests, well.. study hard and hope for the best, but don't cry a river if the grade doesn't add up the way you had wanted (you'll be fine). Really enjoyed the assigned material! I worked for it (enjoyed it!), but I did end up with an A. No problems..

It is a gamble if you want to take this teacher. Textbook was not the key to success in this class, but it should still be looked into. Most of his lecture is useless as well. The key to get a B in this class is to just do his Article Review and any Extra Credit he throws out. But like I said, it's a gamble. Good luck.
Quite possibly the worst teacher at UNF. A libertarian economics teacher does not work well. All he talks about is how he does not trust the government and neither should you. The book is rarely used and is not taught, tests are based on the opinion of the teacher and articles he mentions in class. Avoid this teacher at all costs. Highest grade- 84
Horrible teacher. I tried to email him several times and i hardly ever received an email back. If I did receive one it was weeks later. Ridiculous amounts of extra credit are given to help the horrible test grades that peak at around a 65-70%. I received a C in the class and I did most of the extra credit and most of the homework. worst class ever.
He is the worst teacher ever. He doesn't respond to questions in class or e-mails. He tells you how he grades, and then does it completely different. I made a B in the class, but according to his defined grading system, I had an A. Avoid this teacher at all costs!
If you insist upon extreme structure this class could make your head spin, but if you can keep an open mind despite what may originally seem purely chaotic & truly embrace the material you may find as I did that this class has brought you to a new level of understanding as a student and a person. Sounds dramatic I know, but I'm serious!
Ps. THE COURSE: Come to class; do absolutely ANY extra credit mentioned; Do study hard for the tests, but then cross your fingers & DO NOT fret if you don't score high or even if you score low (keep at it & you'll be fine). Woods is unorthodox to say the least & often a little confusing, but in the end I loved it and did get an A. Great class!
Very good teacher, Unorthodox method of teaching but makes you think. If you love big government this is not the class for you. Very helpful and is willing to talk outside of class. I have taken for Micro and Macro. You have lots of articles to read so be ready to read. Would recommend.
LOVED Macroeco class and this professor! He is challenging and assigns a lot of extra reading, but it?s worth it. He is not typical by any means, but his goal is to get you into doing your own critical thinking and open your mind. His tests are VERY hard and require you to STUDY everything he suggests. I would love to take him again if I could.
Professor was extremely knowledgable on all economic topics both historically and currently. I reccomend reading the chapters before class and all of the reccomended articles as well. He provides a unique perspective that should interest anyone but is open to in-class debates and encourages class participation. Extra credit available upon request
I would recommend Louis Woods for micro economics. It is an absolute must that you buy the book. His tests are hard, but if you read the book and do all assignments he assigns you will do fine. he gives out extra credit if you need it as well
Great teacher, really gets you to think about what is going on in the world and how it relates to economics. Read the book, notes he emails, and any outside readings he mentions in class, they will all be on the test. Complaint, sometimes discusses articles he found the day of class without us being able to read it-bad for class discussions.
He instructs you on how to think rather than what to think. He's great, despite (or in spite of?) sharing many of the same paranoid characteristics that I do. I learned a lot. He teaches about how the real world works rather than just the world of textbooks. Don't take him if you're an unthinking idiot; only if you wanna know how the world works.
Woods is a brilliant and intelligent person, but when it comes to teaching he fails. His lectures seem random but they are relevant, just hard to pay attention to. Regardless, going off on tangents and reading to the class isn't the same as teaching.
Quirky but intellectually challenging. He doesn't stick with the textbook a whole lot and is focused on opening his student's eyes to the fallacies in government and social policies. He's a walking encyclopedia of names and dates and happenings. If you can't handle thinking outside the box, don't bother with this class.
Best professor at UNF! Talks about relevant things & doesn't just read the book to you! Love him! If you think his class is boring or extremely hard you obviously either didn't do your homework, have no brain activity upstairs or both. Take him and go to class, he'll expand how you think about politics!
