...it was ok....
Her voice really irritated me, to the point where I avoided the class. Plus, despite the subject material, she made it really boring. She couldn't stay on time either.
She needs to learn how to breathe when she talks, because she sounds like she'll pass out at any moment. Also very repetetive and doesn't know how to prevent feedback. But this class is required, so nuts. >_<
One of the most boring teachers I've ever had. Although the chairs were comfortable in kane so I got alot of napping in... and still got a 3.4
Inspirational woman! Clear lectures, rare slides explained in fascinating details. Iarochi knows her ****. I also love her respectful attitude towards GSAs. Would love to see her work as an architect but google search yields only teaching references. Need more of her in this world. Classy, knowledgeable, relaxed.
I thought her lectures were great and extremely informative, if a little bit narrow in view. She is obviously a kind woman and also passionate about her subject. She managed to make a large lecture class feel more connected by bringing up student comments. Class is pretty easy in general and going to lecture makes studying for exams much easier.
Impossible to get A's on the essays. Is always out of breath. Says "right?" 50 times per lecture. Runs out of time every class. Tangents.
She's very passionate about the subject, but even that can't help her lectures from being a bit boring at times. Too much material covered in one course, but she compiles brilliant notes that she posts online (as well as recording her lectures) so it's not too bad. Very friendly and a always has a smile on her face.
iarocci is a great prof, funny in lectures, enthusiastic about the subject matter, and very helpful if need be. easy B, but no coasting to an A.
Wow, what I nice lady! I only took the class for VLPA, and never gained much interest in it, but she taught me a lot! The GSA's in that class sucked, and it was impossible to get A's on the essays. Exams are do-able. I loved Louisa's enthusiasm and kindness.
Prof Iarocci is genuinely nice and obviously cares about her students (she came to school on a snow day just in case students showed up) and loves what she teaches, but as mentioned before her lectures can be boring sometimes, because it's a history class. GSAs were slow and harsh on grading; didn't like them, but I liked the prof.
Really nice and cares whether students learn or not. GSA's difficult graders on essays but she's really nice and is very enthusiastic. Some lectures were kind of boring but overall pretty interesting
Lousia cares deeply about her subject and her students, but her lectures can be a little hard to take. Tests are difficult -- lots of fact/date memorization. Overall, though, a great learning experience.
Good teacher
Her style of speaking and voice (constantly sounds like she's about to cry) made it impossible for me to pay attention. Only took notes on the lecture every 5 minutes. Textbook is useless on tests and the GSA's will grade the midterm and final as they please (AKA unnecessarily hard without reason). It is a weed-out class, but not too hard, just bad
They are extremely picky on their essays so learn exactly what they want. Take advantage of the writing center and CLUE sessions. GSAs can be rough on grading and useless at other times. They're not there to help you learn. They are there to grade your stuff. Reading the book isn't necessary. Just make sure you study what you need to a lot.
Iarocci is a really nice person who cares a lot about her subject and knows a lot about it. That being said, shes not the best lecturer in the world and there is almost no reason to buy the books. I stopped reading the assignments partway through and it didn't affect anything.
She's a lovely Argentine who loves to show rather than tell, and wants everyone to have fun learning!
Very sweet and super helpful as a professor, but I found the lectures to be mostly, extremely boring. As others have said she isn't the best lecturer. This class is easy if you actually pay attention (try) and take decent notes.
Super easy class, she had online quizzes so you really never had to study, the books were pretty much useless. She's not the best lecturer, she has kind of a weak timid voice, so lecture can be really boring.
Super easy to get 4.0. Don't forget to post discussion each week, a friend forgot once and dropped him from 4.0 to a 3.6 because he missed a few quiz questions. Rarely went to class, but doing quizzes in a group made it easy to piece answers together.
For ARCH 350, Louisa's class is a breeze. Her lectures essentially follow the readings, so it's a pretty easy slide through this class. Where she really shines is her graduate-level seminars. If you are in the M. Arch program, definitely try and take a class with her. She's brilliant, and admits that smaller classes are her favorite for teaching.
Good lecturer with funny, offhand comments. Follows textbook for the most part, but I wouldn't recommend skipping class as she intentionally includes material in tests that aren't discussed as much in the book. Show her you're passionate about the subject as well, simply show up, and you'll do fine. I'm looking forward to another class with her.
An incredible individual with such a huge heart. Shes extremely approachable, even during a HUGE lecture. She is genuinely interested in hearing student voice and goes out of her way to do so. This class was at times a bit of a snooze, but Id still recommend it. Definitely take! One of those well-rounded citizen classes and pretty easy!
Loved her - so awesome.
One of the easier VLPA's but don't expect a free ride. Quizzes are derived from lecture and book. Don't expect a 4.0 unless you plan on going to the lecture and taking verbatim notes. Realistically, goto lecture and pay attention to the best of your abilities and you will get a high grade. Online Quizzes can be tricky less so if you goto lecture.
One of the Easier VLPAs. Don't expect 4.0 if you don't come to lecture and take good notes. Online quizzes are derived form lecture and book materials and some questions can be tricky. If you come to lecture most of the time and pay attention most of the time and have book ready you should get a good grade.
I would recommend this class to everyone. She's honestly the sweetest lady ever & really cares about the stuff she's teaching which makes it a lot easier to learn. It's similar to arch 150 but I though this class was way easier. I would take any class again taught by her. May favorite class so far & hands down one of my favorite professors.
Emm, if you did not see the video or attend the class, do not expect to get good grades.
If you don't watch/attend her lectures you will end up with a very bad grade in her class. Quizzes account for 80% of your grade in this class and most questions from from her lecture.
If you are in a group in the class you will pass, but you cut it alone you will barely pass, the online quiz is ridiculous, you get only twenty minutes to answer thirty questions, that's 90 seconds per question, and even though it is multiple choice, the questions rarely reflect real answers associated with the book or lecture.
Some of the best lectures I've had. Louisa makes learning about ancient architecture fun. She is very invested in her class and is also so adorable! Definitely take this class!
She's one of the best professors I've ever had in UW. Must take class. She's so funny, her lectures are amazing and easy assignments. Textbooks are very useful and exams are easy as far as you memorize everything
Louisa is a very sweet and hilarious lady, but sometimes the lectures can get a bit boring at times. Some GSA's grade more harshly than others as there are only two assignments and two tests throughout the whole quarter. Make sure to allocate a good chunk of time for this class, as it is mostly based off of memorization.
Lectures are available online so you don't need to go to class. Although, it's very interesting and worth your time. There are three online 40 minute quizzes that are straight from lecture and are very easy. Great G.P.A. booster if you need an easy A or VLPA class.
There are only 3 tests, open note that make up most of your grade. The questions usually consist of little details that are irrelevant to the important parts of the key works. Because the class average is so high, if you miss more than 5 points all quarter, your grade drops from a 4.0 to a 3.6, there is no in-between. Good Luck.
Easy class but quizzes have some unreasonable questions. They do not reflect the important things talked about but rather small unimportant details. Interesting class but kinda boring. Class average is so high you can only miss a few points.
If you are taking this class do not take it with Louisa Iarocci. I had friends who took architecture 150 with other professors and they were able to do very well while barely going to the lectures. With this professor, you need to attend every lecture and take very good notes or else the tests will destroy your grade.
Avoid this professor for arch 150. I know many people who did well in this class without going to any of the lectures but for this class if you don't take good notes, you won't do well on the quizzes. I only did well because I worked with a group of friends.
Unless you are extremely good at taking notes and copying down what people say verbatim, avoid this professor.
Get ready to study very hard for what is supposedly an easy 3 credit VLPA. While this class is generally easy, with this professor you actually need to attend lectures and take good notes, or else the quizzes will destroy your grade.
Final grade is based on 3 quizzes and participation. Quizzes count for a total of 80% of your final grade. Took notes and went to all the lectures and still had a tough time on the quizzes. If youre looking for a GPA booster, this isn't it. This class is much tougher than it was in previous quarters.
I took this class by recommendation from a friend. Turns out Iarocci changed that way she quizzes now and comparing my friend's quizzes the ones Iarroci gives are MUCH HARDER now. I took very specific notes but it was impossible to keep up with the time limit on the quiz. 80% of the grade is based on the quiz and many questions are ridiculous :(
Avoid this professor if you can. Arch 150 is an easy class and she knows this so she decides to make the quizzes hard to incentivize class attendance while you can do well in this class without going to lectures with other professors. Avoid if possible!!!
Lectures are so boring! And the quizzes are so hard!! If you don't take good notes you won't pass. I had to rely on my friend to do well in this class since he is very smart and take good notes.
Despite what people say about arch 150 being an easy VLPA class, this class is not easy with Louisa Iarocci. I only did well because I worked together with a friend who took very good notes. I would not recommend this professor.
Avoid.
I took this class since I had friends who took this class, put little effort and still do well in this class. If you take this class, I want to say, avoid this professor if you can. I didn't do much studying but even after working with a friend who took really good notes the quizzes were hard. The last quiz was particularly brutal. Avoid!
Avoid avoid avoid!
This was supposed to be an easy 4.0 class but the last quiz killed my grade. While I will still get an A for the class, the quizzes were super hard. She knows that people think this class is a joke, therefore she tries to make it really hard by giving super specific questions on the quiz. Avoid!!!
Her lectures are extremely boring! Not only that but here quizzes are so hard and you can only do well if you pay close attention to her lectures, which are so hard to pay attention to since they are so hard!! Avoid Avoid Avoid!!!!!
Don't take this professor if you want an easy 4.0!!!
Do not take the class with this professor!!
My friends who took arch 150 said they never went to class and still got 3.8s and 3.9s. I got a 3.9 but that was only because I had a friend who took good notes from the lectures. Worked on the last quiz with someone else so that brought my grade down to a 3.9. Had I worked with the same person all 3 times, I would have 4.0ed the class.
I had to go to every lecture to do well in this class. I had friends who took this class, never went lecture, and did well in this class. For this professor, she knows this class is known to students as a joke so she amps up the difficulty level to force students to attend lectures. Avoid avoid avoid avoid avoid!!!!!!!!!
If you think arch 150 is easy, this professor makes it really hard by giving hard quizzes! If you have her for a professor, drop immediately and take the class another quarter!!!!!
Despite the comments, if you're actually paying attention to her lectures it's fine and there's panopto. It's definitely manageable as long as you keep up. Online quizzes, textbook not that required. Although she just lightly mentions some of the stuff that was on the exam, she's great!
Avoid if you can! Her quizzes are hard!!!!! So much stress for what is supposedly an easy 4.0!!!
Avoid this professor! I thought this would be a hella easy class but apparently the quizzes were so hard!
Just don't. Quizzes are so hard
One of the sweetest professors I have ever had. She is nice caring and intriguing. Clearly loves what shes doing and tries to make it entertaining. Lots of reading but if you love architecture its totally worth it!
This class is relatively easy, the book is not even needed because she goes over the key works in class. She is really nice and willing to meet outside of class to help you with anything!
She obviously really cares about what she is teaching and I honestly love how relaxing the class is. It's like she's talking to us like friends. I loveeee her class
Goes too deep into Architecture, not that serious... Boring lectures and tries to make u think a rectangle is the greatest form of Architecture in the world. All grades based on going to class and quizzes. Quizzes are way too hard for an intro class. Pass this class with a group of friends or ur screwed.
Unless you want to get a bad grade, I wouldnt recommend taking this class. Took it because everyone said ARCH150 was an easy class, but ITS NOT! Lectures are boring and tests are way too hard for a 100 level, 3 credit class. I wish I can go back in time to tell myself to not take this class. If you want to take ARCH150 take it with someone else!!
This is a great class to take easy 4.0
Great professor who is very knowledgable and passionate about this subject. DO NOT believe these negative reviews, this class is easy and requires a single brain cell to get a 4.0. Make sure you do the quizzes with friends. Some of the material learned in class was very interesting!
Easy class. No midterm or final. 4 quizzes online, so there is no reason to get less than 90% in the class.
Quizzes were way too hard for 100 level 3 credit class. Lots of questions in the quizzes were trick questions. Can't blink in class because you'll miss something very small that will some how show up on the quiz. Only got 90% taking it with three others.
Just received my final quiz grade today finalizing the class. There's a reason why only 30% of people would take again. Questions on the quizzes many people feel are unfair. Some questions are trick questions worded weird. She says she reviews all questions to make it fair but it's really not. Don't expect an easy 4.0 in this class
Easy GPA booster. Loved this class! Quizzes are hella easy.
These quizzes in the class are very easy, there is no reason why anyone would get a grade below an A. Take quizzes with friends and you should be fine!
Watch lectures on panapto at double speed and monitor pollEv outside of class. Write down everything she says. Super easy 4.0
You dont have to be in class as long as you watch the panopto recordings. Lots of memorization so get ready. She teaches a large class and to be able to finish on time and talk about the key works is every lecture is impressive. Shes very sweet and cares about her students if youre willing to meet with her.
She replies pretty fast. Very kind and sweet. The class is a lot of memorization.
She is a very sweet lady. Super knowledgeable about the topics she teaches. It's amazing how she can get out so much information in such a short amount of time. However, there's A LOT of memorization for the midterm and final, but if you keep up with definition of key works and terms, you should be okay!
She is the nicest prof I've had in this university, very willing to spend time to know you, especially when you are in the honor section. textbook is not a must have, but taking notes in lecture is important. A very respectful and understanding person in general
I took ARCH 150. Honestly, she was very condescending to me the few times I spoke with her, and shouts into the mic. You can literally hear the reverberation of the mic within itself it's so loud. Participation through pollev, but questions are only listed on slides. She uses a very tedious teaching method, if she wasn't so loud I'd fall asleep.
Arch 150 got way harder after she started teaching, you have to go to every class and take notes both in class and in the textbook to 4.0. She made it way harder than last quarter's arch class, also not great lecturer her voice is too high pitched it was a tough listen
total score is 120 for 4 quiz, if you got 7 wrong total, you say goodbye to 4.0, and move to 3.6-.
Amazing professor. She is kind, approachable, and a great lecturer. If you show up to class and write down everything she says, you should ace the 4 online open-note quizzes. This class is an easy 4.0 if you take good notes. If you miss something from lecture, her lectures are recorded, so you'll be fine.
Easy 4.0 if you put the effort in to go to class and pay attention and take notes on the material presented, and skim through the textbook.
The way taking/writing the test is just unfair compared to other quarters. If you don't take good notes with specific details--> you won't get good grade
A lot of memorizations required
I believe shes fair with the grading system. No homework. Knows her materials.
Difficult not to fall asleep during her lectures. As long as you participate in class with pollev, rewatch her panopto recordings and take note of what she says, and read the textbook, youre all good.
Hated this class. She made the quizzes so obscure with the intention to trick students. These quizzes rely heavily on the textbook so don't expect to google search the answers. No extra credit opportunities so what you get on your quizzes is what your grade will get, and she does pollev.
Arch150 was graded entirely on 4 quizzes. I didn't buy the textbook and easily found the answers from my lecture notes and google. Pay careful attention during lecture and write down everything if you don't plan on getting the book! Overall, Iarocci made the class interesting and not too difficult to pass.
easy A
Easy A class. Dont expect to get 4.0 without watching the lectures. Professor Iarocchis lectures are super informative so there is no need to buy a book.
This class is insanely easy and is actually pretty interesting. Professor Iarocci is literally a queen. She gives the class extensions on assignments all the time and all the answers to the quizzes can be found in the lectures. I'm a STEM major and this was a great way to get VLPA credit. 10/10 recommend!
If you aren't interested in architecture, don't take this class. The lectures will be boring and you won't be motivated to keep up with the asynchronous format. That being said, there are only 5 easy quizzes, 5 disscussions and pollev's to do, that's it. So it is very easy to do well, don't bother buying the textbook either unless you want to.
The nicest prof I've had hands down. Not super difficult, and the lectures are pretty fun to participate in.
Professor Iarocci is a great professor! The class solely depends on poll everywhere questions which she provides the answers for and a quiz/discussion post alternatively every week. Her lectures are easy to digest and interesting, she also responds to emails extremely quick. Easy 4.0 just take some notes down! 10/10 recommend.
This isn't the EASIEST VLPA course because you won't be able to quizlet your way through it. You have to watch the lectures, but all of the answers are in them. She's so sweet and there's like no homework, no midterm, no final. It's amazing.
Best professor I took this Winter. Was the best at online school & understanding how to run class. Lectures are easy to understand & the # of assignments was perfect for an intro class + the d. posts were interesting to answer. Its clear she loves arch & even tho its not my major i found it fun and interesting thanks to her!! 100% recommend!
This was one of my favorite courses winter quarter. She made it really easy to do well in this class without requiring attendance. It was really straightforward and I liked how the grade was really only dependent on the quizzes and discussion posts. All the answers on the quizzes are in the lectures, which were easy to follow.
Loved her class, made me interested in the material
The class was good and the material was stuff I was very interested in. However, I just found her lectures so boring.
Fast and quiet speaker and does not add text onto lecture slides only pictures. Textbook does not matter that much as she covers all significant material in lectures. 3 quizzes and a couple of short discussions. Overall, very caring and nice professor. Would definitely take again!
Best one!!!
Intro class, so lots of resources available and material doesn't go too deep. Prof Iarocci is open and honest with students and she keeps things really chill. If you turn up to class for the PollEvs and watch the lectures this is a super low-stress environment. Class used a textbook but I didn't really need it bc everything is in the lectures.
I took this class to balance out my STEM classes. But, I found this class very interesting and fun. Louisa is very friendly and understanding. You attend lecture in person or zoom once a week for PollEv points. Releases two pre-recorded lectures every week. Exams are online. Grade is based on the three exams and PollEv points. Easy and fun class!
She was the sweetest - very understanding and always willing to chat. You do need to take very good notes, but the tests were open note. Get ready to be very aware of the little details the differentiate the buildings (important to know for exams!) There are few discussion throughout the quarter so the class is very manageable - if you show up!
Her classes are interesting and engaging. It's graded on 3 Canvas quizzes and participation questions. The quizzes are easy, all the questions are from the lectures so have them ready. The participation credit (pollev's) are also easy and she gives out answers at the end. 10/10 would recommend!
Louisa is so sweet and you can tell she both knows and cares a lot about architecture and her students. There are three quizzes that are open book and easy. She films lecture videos that are very helpful and the textbook is assigned but not necessary.
Such a sweet and understanding person! This class had 3 open note, timed quizzes (which weren't too bad) as well as several discussion posts. Lectures were VERY important for the class. Overall, it was interesting, with not too much work, and the professor was always super approachable and willing to talk.
Great class. Live lecture is held once a week and asynchronous videos on canvas. Professor was engaging and most of the textbook reading was not necessary. Quizzes are just based on her lecture content which is all recorded on canvas. You could never show up to this class and still get a 4.0 (not that I recommend that).
Very sweet and passionate professor! Classes are lectures but they can also be accessed online, so attendance not mandatory. No midterms or finals, just 5 quizzes, 25 questions each. You have to take the first and last quiz, but the lowest grade from the other 3 quizzes gets dropped. Very nice and easy class. Quizzes based on textbook and lectures.
Louisa is very caring and makes the class much more engaging than just reading from the textbook. Lectures are recorded in Panopto. Quizzes are open notes and online (open Friday to Sunday), with no midterm or final. I would love to take another class from Louisa!
Lectures might put you to sleep but she's full of passion.
Iarocci lectures really well, the way she teaches the historical timeline of architecture makes understanding the developments easier. She is clearly passionate, the most interesting parts of the lectures are when she goes on a side tangent-- her interest in using local resources to build structures is the most memorable to me.
Iacrocci is a great professor who truly cares about her students even in a big class. In the quarter I took it there were 4 quizzes timed online open notes and super easy discussion boards. Attendance isn't mandatory bc all lectures are recorded and polls are open till Friday.
Professor Iarocci's class was relatively simple. It's not meant to drag down your GPA in any way, and the grading is actually quite forgiving. Professor Iarocci herself is a good lecturer, and you can tell she cares about the subject matter quite a bit.
I really liked the content and professor is really kind and passionate about the material. The reading was sometimes a lot so I suggest chunking it out (ex: 7 pages a day). The class was also in the afternoon (3:30-4:30) if you have a busy schedule you might be tired/sleepy. But nothing wrong with the professor or content. Highly recommend!
Professor Iarocci is a great lecturer. She clearly knows what she is talking about and is very passionate. Class always ended early and topics covered in lecture were interesting. Great class to boost your GPA!
Louisa Larocci is a very sweet and accomodating professor. One of the best professors I've had so far. She clearly cares about architecture and her students. She outlines the course very well and her schedule, study guides, and weekly overviews make it very easy to study for her class. She's easy to approach for questions too!
She is the nicest, most understanding professor I learned from in a very long time. She is very flexible if enough people answer a question incorrectly she will see it as a failure on her part and will remove the question from the test's point total. And she sometimes gives out free candy.
Nicest, most understanding professor I've had at UW. She always came to class smiling, always supporting us as students by extending deadlines if needed, explaining the history in a fun way. Highly recommend her!
Professor Iarocci is passionate about the material and makes the class enjoyable. The workload is manageable, with easy quizzes and recorded lectures. I used Unstuck AI for extra practice alongside the textbook, which helped boost my understanding.
ARCH 350 set a great foundation for the three-part series thanks to Louisa. Her lectures and slideshows were streamlined and concise.
Louisa is clearly passionate about the content she lectures about, though I found some lectures to be boring. Overall, she's a kind professor, and the course is straightforward as long as you come to lecture and study a bit for the quizzes.
Larocci showed clear interest in the course material and obviously enjoyed lecturing on it, which made me significantly more invested in the class. When I took the class, it began at 10:30, but I still made an effort to show up every day because the lectures were much better watched in person.
Professor Larocci is the sweetest professor ever. When sick, I rescheduled a midterm over zoom. She was very patient and wished for a quick recovery. She brings candy to class, before midterms or breaks she has a fun presentation, often reminds us to take care of our mental health, and congratulates us on work from outside architecture classes.
Very kind & valued students time/effort. Lectures were recorded (I recommend going), class consisted of weekly discussion boards within small groups, 2 assignments during the quarter, and quizzes every few weeks (on Fri.) covering 2-4 modules. Textbook primarily used for vocabulary and additional material (covered in class generally)
Quizzes are based on lectures, which are all recorded and accessible outside class. Grading is fair and there are many graded projects and discussions. Teacher is very understanding and lectures are engaging, although the class requires a significant amount of studying to succeed to a high level.
