She is very hard. Her exams are impossible. Be prepared to work your butt off and still not get the grade you deserve
Her classes are exactly the same as every other biology professor at this school, so are the tests. They are by no means easy but if you study you will do fine. A&P professors use the same tests so hers arent any harder than any other professors.
The Prof is very organized and wants you to learn. But to pass her class you need to study night and day. Be ready
hardest teacher ive ever had in my entire life! ...she is nice though
very difficult class, but you WILL learn a lot
I didn't expect to love Biology the way I did before taking Prof. Petroka's online class. The websites she added to the notes were absolutely fantastic! For anyone interested check out HowStuffWorks.com and you will find yourself fascinated by the human body too! Put in the effort, and you can get a great grade as well! : )
Hard, not clear.
Helpful, kind, compassionate. Everything you'd want in a professor.
Every professor should be like her!
she's a great teacher, she just talks too fast & is really, really hard- no extra credit, no curves, nothing. you earn what you earn... extremeley helpful though
I took an online class. She is very hard, but very interesting and helpful. I had a great experience and learned so much. Great professor!
An extremely hard class, but she's an awesome profesor. If you ever need help, she's always there to answer your questions.. don't hesitate to ask! Your grade is pretty much based on your tests (writtens & labs)so it's a lot of memorization. You'll learn a lot in her class, as long as you pay close attention & dedicate A LOT of time to studying.
She is a wonderful professor and makes comparissons to everday life to help you better understand the subject. She will not move on to another chapter until she is positive you understand what she is teaching. Just don't expect an easy A, you get what you earn...no exceptions!!! I highly recommend her.
She is really smart and knows everything, but her exams are sooo hard!!!!!!!!!! even the labs. Don't get me wrong she is helpful, but you have to know by heart each powerpoint because her multiple choices are from everywhere and it's imposible to get a 100 on the test!
Amazing professor. She's tough, but she makes sure you know the material. The work you put in will absolutely reflect in the grade you get, so be prepared. She offers a ton of office hours and encourages stopping her midlecture to ensure understanding. Waited up til midnight to make sure I got into her AP II class after the 1st with her.
AMAZING bio teacher. i will admit the material is very hard and you have to study often. however, she explains it thoroughly. she is willing to help you in every aspect possible. if you are willing to take the time to learn, she is willing to instruct you.
Get ready to study, a lot. Her written exams are very tough. I wouldn't dare miss one of her lectures. Tests never were what I thought they would be. But, she is the most helpful professor I have ever had and open to any questions and will take second looks at grades, questions missed, etc. I would take her again. Too bad she's not a RN prof.
She is a terrific teacher. You will definately need to study but she will help you with anything you don not understand. Hard but terrific
Amazing teacher. Gave students tips to improve their study habits. Taking for Bio 212
She is one HOTT TEACHER i made sure to make it to every class ;)
If you want to learn A&P, I strongly recommend taking her. She is an awesome professor and person. She is knowledgeable, funny, and extremely approachable. As long you study, you can get an A. I wish she teaches other bio class, I will not hesitate taking her again.
Very nice lady, But she is so difficult. She insists you study at least two hours every night or you will fail the course (more than half her students do). She gives the most difficult exams and you have to record her lectures. Yes, she offers study sessions (at 7a.m.) but the other biology professors at GCC give study guides AND make the exams easier (Multiple choice, fill in the blanks, etc.). My advice; ANOTHER TEACHER; if you wanna pass. Ok, it's good to be thorough but c'mon GCC isn't Yale.
Stop telling me stories I get it. Helpful but too personal and in your face.
One of the most challenging classes, so hard but worth it!Louise is one of the best professors fascianating, helpful and so knowledgable! She has a real mastery of the subject and communicates it well. Expects you to master it as well and exams are very hard.
She is the most twofaced person you have ever seen. She is nice to your face. Exams are just hard for no reason and loves to torture students and bad personality!!!!!
I've got my BA and am almost though my MA and this GCC course was probably the hardest course I've ever taken. However, I probably walked away with more knowledge than I've received from any other Prof in the past. Petroka will make you work HARD but it's well worth it if you can make it through. WARNING: huge time commitment!
Good class, hard exams so be prepared to use the book and study a lot. Dr. Petroka is a good professor, very helpful when it comes to lab and will take and answer any question in lecture too. Uses the PPTs as a base for lecture and gives more info off of them so take notes. Very easy to understand, clear, smart and knows the info inside and out.
She is a wonderful teacher. Material is hard not the instructor. She goes far and beyond to make you understand the material, she gives you every opportunity to succeed in this class. But if you want knowledge of material and a good grade, then you have to give it a lot of time. I will take her again if I have to
Both BIO 211&212 are full of a ton of information, but if you study hard and utilize all the extra help she offers, it is possible to do well! I used the text book for the quizzes; her pp notes are sufficient to pass her exams. I took videos of her describing parts on the models during the lab portion which helped a lot! I highly recommend her!!
Amazing teacher. If you dedicate your time to learning the material, you will do well.
The material for A&P II is hard, not the instructor. She makes every single concept crystal clear. The most helpful professor I have had so far. Not an easy A but worth the effort to work hard to EARN an A. A very valuable and important subject taught by a passionate instructor who wants you to succeed. Highly recommend!!
Love her! She is a great teacher with tons of experience. She knows her stuff and is happy to share tips to help you out. These classes are tough regardless, so as long as you put in the time and effort, you should do well.
After the first test when we all got 60's and 70's she said, and I quote, "Oh, don't worry everyone does bad on the first exam." I couldn't believe she said that. Professors are supposed to adapt when they see their entire class struggling. She does not. I like her, but her tests need a huge overhaul... And I'm certainly never taking her again.
I loved having Professor Petroka she is very helpful and very nice. A lot of people think her written test are hard but all of anatomy is hard and very detailed. If you study enough you will do fine on her written exams. She is also very understanding and wants to see you pass her class. All anatomy classes are difficult.
She is a professor that really wants you to succeed. Shes been in the medical field for years so she teaches you whats really important. Great professor that is willing to help, but make sure you know your own successful studying techniques and youll be all set. book is only used in lab because of all its diagrams
Professor Petorka is very intelligent. She knows her stuff and really wants to see her students succeed. Remember this is A&P and no matter who you take it's going to be hard and you need to be ready to apply yourself. She is extremely helpful and will always take the time out to help her students. One tip study from her power points not the book.
I am in Petroka's A&P 1 and just signed up for A&P 2 with her. I have taken other anatomy classes and she is by far the most wonderful teacher I have ever had in any subject. The subject itself is hard but she makes it all a piece of cake and answers any questions you may have, takes extra time when needed, and is overall just wonderful. Amazing!
Professor Petroka an amazing teacher. Very intelligent. Has online lectures & practical videos, must see before class & study sheets. Study sheets are very helpful for exams. Provides 1 on 1 help to ensure you get the material, if you are struggling. One of the best teachers I have had, would take her again.
Professor Petroka is by far the best professor that I have had. She is helpful and really wants her students to succeed. She is not tough, the material is. There is a ton of info to know. Best if you take this class with a light load or no other classes, if you can. Utilize everything that she has to offer. Taking AP2 with her.
Really nice person, but can't teach for anything. Lectures are confusing and tests are real hard! Try taking someone else if you want to do well. I put my all into this class and couldn't do good. I'm trying someone new for A&P 2 so let's see what happens.
Awesome professor, but do not fall behind, you will struggle. You put in the work, you ask questions and study before and after lectures and you will do fine.
Anatomy is a tough subject, no matter who you take it with. I took Prof. Petroka for both 1 and 2. I received an A in both classes. You will work hard but than will guarantee that you do well. Always do the lectures a head of time that she posts on Blackboard. Make sure you concentrate on spelling for the practical tests. Ask questions!
By far THE BEST professor I've had! She really cares about her students and wants them to succeed. You WILL have to work hard for your grade. I had to study for 3 hours a day, everyday to retain all of the info. Make sure you utilize everything that she has on Blackboard! It's not busy work, & is KEY to passing this course! (esp for the Summer)
Everybody likes a challenge in learning but she just goes way over. Make sure you do all of the study sheets, she doesn't even collect them, you can study and study and study and you'll still fail the tests. Oh and no extra credit because a patient won't like to hear that you had to have extra material just to pass. Well, it's literally just the tests that makes your grades, nothing else. Lab grades really don't matter you can have an 89 in lab and it won't matter your grade is still horrible. Also, everyone fails the first test she says, but what I've heard no one has done good on any of the tests to this day. She actually recommended we just drop out of the class. Never taking again.
This is one class you need to study lecture material heavy. She gives you everything you need to know and easy access to know it. She is a phenomenal teacher as long as nothing throw you from your game while you are in it. You need to study every free moment you have and spend time learning your practicals.
Reads whats on the PowerPoint, her teaching style would fit for someone who already has a degree. Study sheets are not reviewed half the questions on exams are no study sheet u have to understand the concept which you have to teach yourself. Partical list is very long and words have to be spell correctly. The course is very hard bt she over does it
Professor Petroka knows her anatomy very very well. She will help you inside and outside the class as much as she can. However, her tests are extremely hard. There are no test reviews and you are expected to know everything on the study guide plus memorize a huge step by step essay question for a test. Labs are long but do cover EVERYTHING.
I use to complain about this professor but if you don't understand something and ASK she will help you. This is college and you can't memories to pass this class you have to understand the concept and then you will be able to answer the questions regardless of how she asks the questions. Lot of person fail because they are scared to ask questions
The BEST Anatomy teacher you will ever meet. She cares about her students and devote her time and energy into having students understand the materials. This is not an easy course you have to put the work in, she provide study sheets and these really help to study for the exams if you do the. You cannot want an A and not work for it.
Anatomy is a tough subject but Petroka goes above and beyond to make the material understandable. She is the absolute best and knows her stuff. Gives so many real life examples to get her point across. She is tons of fun and the best professor by far at Gateway. Lectures online as well as in class and she is always there for you. helps in studyroom
Amazing teacher take her, if you can't pass this class then you won't do well in the nursing or whatever Field. She explains things to you until you get it. She is a little hard but it is worth it. I've learned a lot and I'm so disappointed that I can't take part two. Go to her office hours she will walk you through and ask questions she will answr
I love this professor, she is very caring and wants you to succeed. People forget this is college and it's not her duty to spoon feed us. she isn't that bad she prepares u for the real deal. I have gain so much knowledge in such a short time, this isn't a course you can memorize so if ur lazy don't take her but if you want to succeed go for her!!!
I made it my duty to see her before class to clarify misunderstanding and she never mind. she's fair. Anatomy itself hard, she genuinely care. The exams challenges u to think which is beneficial especially if you plan to go in the medical field. A lot of repeaters in my class and they say she is better than other professors. She awesome love her
She is the world's BEST. Don't miss out on her. If you're a lazy student keep it moving. This woman challenges you makes you want to learn and keeps you on your toes. She is the best professor at GWCC. she wants you to learn and makes time to respond to any question as simple as it may be. She makes bio so interesting with all her stories.
use the tools she gives you and put the time in and you will succeed, great teacher, I learned a lot she wants you to succeed.
Good teacher love her, she is very helpful and alway tries to clarify any misunderstanding before moving on. Exams are based on lecture and study guides so don't rely solely on the study guides or else you will fail. I have only one complaint, she gives us a final for 1 and other teachers don't which puts you at a disadvantage to lower your grade
This professor is very caring and goes out of her way to help if you ask her to. Puts up practice practicals and practice exams which is very helpful. If you understand the content no matter how she asks the questions you can do well you can't memorize biology on a whole. Very sad that I can't take her for two. She is a wonderful teacher take her
Best professor in the world!!! It's a tough course, be prepared to study! This is not a high school class. It's tough and it's not the professors fault. She will absolutely provide you with all the opportunities to get a good grade. She is preparing us for programs that are going to be much harder than this one. There are some professors that dont.
Amazing teacher. The class is very hard but you have to put in the time to study. Make sure you get all questions answered on study guide. She'll even give you all the answers if you ask. You have to be dedicated and never be afraid to ask questions. She wants to see you succeed, but you have to put in the effort. This class is no joke
Took Professor Petroka in the Spring 2017, absolutely amazing! She is there to help you throughout her class every step of the way as long as you show your interest. No free passes, you get what you earn! Very straight to the point and just an overall super nice Professor. TAKE HER!
Extremely knowledgeable and very well respected. She will take the time to go over things you may be having a hard time and stayed after on many occasions to help me out. The best tip I have is to watch all the lectures before the class , on average I scored 10points higher on exams when I did this, do all practice exams on BB as well.
This is the best professor you can take. she is very brilliant n awesome. this class will make you a great scholar in whatever field you are going into. you will definitely know your stuff. she is a professor who takes her time to help you with the material. she gives study sheets and helps you if you need help on her own time. you won't regret it.
professor petorka is one of the best ap teachers at gateway, the only teacher that will stay after with you till you understand the material if needed, her office is always open for questions and shes the most fair grader also. Ive learned more than i ever have taking her and whoever thinks other wish didn't apply themselves enough!
Petroka's A&P 1 and 2 classes confidently prepared me for nursing school, with an in-depth understanding of A&P. This is a detailed subject matter, and rigorous amounts of material to cover. Her knowledge is reflected in her lectures, course materials, and study guides. A top quality educator who prepares you for any healthcare profession.
I had this professor a year ago and she the best. She is caring and wants each of her student to succeed and do well! Students will complain that she is harb but guess what these programs are way harder! What you give is the exactly the grade you will get! Uses real life experience so your able to relate with the content! She is the best!
I found it very unclear what to study
Took Prof. Petroka for AP1&2. She one in a million. Best Prof I've had thus far. She has great lectures and is there for you inside and outside of class to help u until u understand the material! She understands the pain of A&P and is only there to help you she doesn't want to see you do bad! Wish she taught nursing courses, love her!! Take her!
heard so many bad things about prof patroka so much I almost didn't take her class< in the end am so glad I followed my heart and did, she is a wo0nderful caring understanding professor that once you show interest and work hard she wants you to succeed. do the study guides and practice questions she provides you with enough material for success.
I am very very happy I took her summer session! Very knowledgable and uses real life examples from her own experiences. Lecture material is easy to follow and not boring. Power points are laid out nicely. Has study guides for each chapter and records her lectures so you can re watch at home. Really goes above and beyond to help out her students.
I took her for AP 1. she was absolutely amazing she wants you to pass the class so she will do everything in her power to make that happened. she is not boring when teaching she makes sure that you understand! would deff recommend
I received a bachelors degree before taking courses with Petroka. Not one, (out of the many) professors I had at the other school compared to Petroka. She is the best. She will guide you to success if YOU are willing to work hard for it. Content is hard and a good grade won't come easy BUT she'll do as much as she can on her end to get you there.
She makes up for her toughness with personality. She seems to forget we are community college students, not Yale med hopefuls. Trick questions with tricky wording makes exams more difficult than they have to be. A&P 1 was okay but almost didn't take her again bc of this. I didnt want to get to know a new professor so I stuck with her, regretted it
I took Petroka because I've heard great things about her. She's a nice professor, but definitely nothing like what I was expecting. I was in her class during the pandemic, and we all felt she couldv'e worked better with us during this time. She definitely made things HARD for us!! I wouldn't recommend her
This was the best class I have ever taken. It shaped me into who I am today academically. Professor Petroka is the absolute best. She allows you to think beyond. Her exams were tough but if you want to pass you have to go to every study session. Put in the work and you will be a pro in the material. She is caring and the most thoughtful Prof!
LOVE Petroka!! AP 1 was a difficult course and information heavy, but it was also information that is very important for going into the medical field. She lectures well & gives a bit of humor. I hope to take her for AP 2 next Spring! She provides the basic info for notes but you still need to "fill in the blanks" in lecture. Also, don't ever cheat!
Professor Petroka is an awesome teacher. I had her for A&P l and ll. I say teacher because you will definitely learn in her class. She makes sure you understand the material before moving onto the next subject. Her exams are difficult but if you follow her study suggestions you will do fine. I would take her again. Oh, she is funny too!
I took A&p I, II with her, w & w/o pandemic, tough & tricky test questions, but during the pandemic was awful. I felt she was never laid out what she wanted, always had to read btw the invisible mind readers' lines. She didn't care that most of her students worked in health care while dealing w COVID. The test was essay form. Don't take her!
Great professor, enthusiastic about subject matter, cares about students. Have to study. Will learn alot. Great prep for nursing.
At first I thought she was a good professor, but I was wrong. she doesn't help with any questions, won't answer any emails. The only grade that actually matters are the test grades. The lab grade you bust your butt on and suppose to get 8 percent but she didn't give the credit. I wish I never took her. The test has nothing to do with what you study
I loved her! Listen, you're not going to get any free passes or easy A's with her, or any Anatomy class for that matter. If that's what you're looking for, you should probably pick another path. You're gonna need to work hard & study! BUT, prof p has a very clear and organized way of teaching & she really wants her students to learn/understand!
She is very helpful and a great teacher I would definitely take her again
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR!!! I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!! In a summer course with her and she is a ridiculous grader. 8% of your grade goes towards labs that take HOURS to finish. She seemed understanding at first but she makes this class difficult. Crams too much material in a short amount of time to then test on. HORRIBLE!
She's a nice person, but I wouldn't recommend her. As a professor she has no compassion for the students, especially during COVID. It felt like she was going out of her way to make things harder for us. We all were experiencing this pandemic, why make it hard. I wouldn't recommend especially if you are taking A&P 1/2 for a program such as nursing.
Although this professor is nice, I would not recommend anyone take this class. The material is very heavy for a short summer program. Im surprised the administration always her to continue like this. Honestly, she should feel ashamed of how she conducted her online class and assignments this summer. Warning!! Do not sign up for her class.
Worst Prof I've ever had. made everything 20x harder then it had to be. She spells everything wrong including on tests so u get correct answer wrong. The labs are .8% for something you spend hrs doing, the tests have nothing to do with what's on study sheets, practical's were extremely hard if studied or not. She's a terrible prof. ashamed for her.
took this class all online and wouldn't recommend. Watched long lectures and then had at least 10 assignments for each section which sometimes didn't 100% match up. Assignments for each section were due at a certain date but if you didn't keep up weekly, very easy to fall behind. Dissecting labs at home were not fun, tests and practicals were hard
This was a hard course due to the amount of info you have to digest and recall. The professor was wonderful and helped us understand the material completely. She was available after class hours to provide feedback and additional help. She is very test heavy so studying for hours a week is a must! Overall a great professor!
By far the best I have come across! She knows her stuff and gives her time and attention to those that want to learn. Very blessed to be a student in her classes. After failing AP I two times, came into her class and she made things clear for me and related them to everyday life. I hope that everyone will get the chance to experience her teaching.
Never seen a professor who will discourage you more than her! terrible!
She's absolutely amazing and you can tell she loves what she does. She's very practical with how she teaches and she provides study guides that help you perform. If you study there should be no reason you'll perform badly in this class. She's a gem and really fun to talk with.
Tough, but fair. There's no getting around it, her class is hard, with a LOT of material, but she teaches in a way that makes it manageable. As difficult as she was, I signed up for her AnP2 class because I wouldn't want a different teacher for the next level. It's a lot of work, but she is very clear in what she wants, and teaches it well.
She's hard but fair. Always available outside of class to answer questions. She will explain things until you get it. Very nice professor. Lecture exams are hard, you HAVE to study. She makes this class your full time job. But you will learn a lot from her. Really prepares you for the real world. Provides study guides that are helpful.
