Great teacher, curves everything and no one fails, even on tests! Teaches with power point so the info is very clear. All notes are available online so you just have to print them. She does not take attendance but u should always be there b/c it is chemistry.
I had this professor in the Spring 2004 and was dreading this class. It ended being one of my favorites. She will do her best to help you understand chemistry and is truly an educator, not just a teacher. I highly recommend her.
Professors Cruz is a very good persons. She cuvrves everything and on one fails. The down side is you WILL NOT get an A in her class.
shes a great teacher. seemed intimidating at first but is very concerned about us. does whatever it takes to help us and "transmutes" grades so a 40 could be passing. always has energy boosters and can be a funny lil ladie
Heard a lot of good things about her.
Very tough, fair in her grading but not on running her class. Was almost degrading to students. Very smart lady, she knows her stuff, but I wouldn't take another class from her.
AHHHHHHH!! Do not take her. The only reasons students take her course is because she is the only chem 2 teacher there is! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE she is not a good teacher at all. When you ask her any questions she will start screaming at you! Her exams are really hard and the stuff she puts on there is not what you learned. Trust me run!!!
DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT take this class with this fake teacher, she will make u suffer just because she had it hard back where ever she studied. I know damn well she didn't get a degree from the states. And yes she does scream when u ask her questions just don't even bother.....
Very hard teacher!! She sucks. Can teach, won't help, why bother! Don't waste your money in choosing her as your professor. PLEASE.
Wow, what can I say. She has issues with power. She has issues w/ clarity and she just seems to operate in a way that doesn't seem fair. She doesn't communicate things and then takes points off on assignments saying that you would know what to do if you took her for Intro to Chem. Her grading is very arbitrary as well. No logic involved.
Her tests are really hard, but overall, I think she is the best chemistry teacher that anybody could have! She has a lot of shortcuts for problem solving that take time to get used to, but once you do, it is so much better! Yes, she is hard, but well worth to take. She will do her best to work with you if you can't figure it out!
she told not necessary 2 buy txtbk but believe me i bought and studied from it coz i cudnt understand her teaching.she screams, acts crazy, gets mad when u ask her questions, wont go over intro2chem,rarely she shows easy method in calculations, exams not very hard if u study every day, suprise pop quiz, she's funny. If u can find a teacher better dan her.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE TEACHER!! PLAYS FAVORITISM; LECTURES DIFFERENT FROM BOOK AND EXAMS; EXAMS ARE MULTI CHOICE AND APPLICATIONS; CONSTANT LAB REPORTS; HEAD OF FACULTY SO SHE GETS AWAY WITH ANYTHING. SHE THREATENED MY GRADE SO I DROPPED HER. IMPOSSIBLE TO ATTAIN THE GRADE U WANT IF SHE DOESNT LIKE YOU!
Easily the best teacher at the school. Just sit down and shut up. Turn your cell phone off, pay attention, and be a student and this will be an easy A for you. Also gives out free food.
Thick accent, hard to understand. Very stern and headstrong. Goes over material quickly and doesn't like repeating herself. She does post the notes online, which helps. Good luck to you.
INSTRUCTOR IS A NICE LADY...SHE WONT GO BACK AND REVIEW ANYTHING FROM INTRO CHEM OR IF U TOOK CHEM IN HIGHSCHOOL...TESTS ARE HARD...SHE GRADES KIND OF HARD ON LAB REPORTS AND HOMEWORK...EASY TO FALL BEHIND...MUST STUDY & NO SLACKIN OFF
It may take a bit to get used to her but eventually if you pay attention and study well you'll do fine. Those who constantly complain are whiney slackers, and developing a relationship with her isn't necessary. She won't give help on Intro chem material but she will help for material that is planned on the syllabus. Make sure to FOLLOW directions.
She is a very hard teacher. Her tests are freaking hard. You really have to have a lot of time for this class even her quizzes are hard. I remember i studied for them and even though I only got two correct answers. The only good thing about her is that she curves. She gives candies to buy you!!!
What most of the reviews said prior are true. However, she is a surprisingly fair teacher. If you didn't take her intro to chem class, she will remind you 50 times in the beginning. Still, she curves almost everything even if you did bad on it, you still didn't do as bad as you think you did. Just be prepared to study and not skip class too much.
HORRIBLE TEACHER, IF YOU WANT TO LOWER YOUR GPA GO AHEAD TAKE HER AS CHEM I & II IF YOU WANT. DID NOT CARE FOR THE WAY SHE TEAHCES, YES SHE DOES CURVE, BUT IF YOU DIDN'T TAKE INTRO TO CHEM YOU WILL FAIL. DOES NOT MAKE NOTES PRINTABLE AND DOES NOT EXPLAIN PROCEDURES WELL. AS A STUDENT WHO IS IN AN HONOR SOCIETY I DO NOT RECOMMEND HER AS A TEACHER
RUN AWAY!!!RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN! this skeezer is the worst "teacher" i ever had. She yells @ you and WILL not answere your questions, when you do ask she will smile at you as if your retarded then answere them in like 4words. AND IF SHE MENTIONS AGIAN ABOUT HER INTRO CHEM. CLASS AS A PRE-REQ. I WILL TRIP HER THICK ACCENT SHORT SELF IN THE HALL.
attendance isnt mandatory, but GO TO CLASS.. only take her if youre a chem major orh ave to have a lot of sciences.. HARD AS HELL.. but youll understand everything better if you take her.. again, if youre NOT A SCIENCE MAJOR RUN AWAY AS FAST AND FAR AS YOU CAN!
Cruz is a tough but fair prof. It is rather simple follow her directions, smile and keep your stupid comments to yourself. If you can't handle authority, then find another class. She is actually a very kind person if you look past her dictator style of class. Hard core but not as bad as this site leads one to believe.
good teacher
She is the worst science teacher I have ever had. She helps none and moves at a lighting pace. Horrible prof, and rude to the students every chance she gets!!!
tends to test over material not in the lecture or the reviews given. why give review over material not on the exam
VERY GOOD TEACHER... I USED NOT TO LIKE CHEM BEFORE HER, NOW IM VERY INTERESTED... NOT GONNA LIE THE TEST ARE VERY HARD BUT THATS JUST HOW COLLEGE IS, SHE ONLY TESTS THE MATERIAL TAUGHT IN CLASS.IF U LIKE CHEM DEF TAKE HER,GOOD THING IS THAT SHE CURVES SO THT REALLY HELPS.. DONT MIND HER ACCENT, U CAN UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING. VERY STRICT PERSON
She's not as bad as other people say. I think she is a very nice lady and she is very willing to help. Yes...she her tests are quite hard, but she curves it a lot. so no worries. actually I find her reviews helped for the long questions, its pretty similar as long as you get the method to do it. the mutiple choice are tricky sometimes.
GREAT PROF!!!! DON'T TAKE HER CLASSES IN THE MORNING BUT IN THE AFTERNOON. SHE GIVES ALOTS OF QUIZZES BUT SHE GIVES A QUICK REVIEW RIGHT BEFORE. LECTURE/LAB TESTS ARE EASY COMPARE TO OTHERS. SHE IS VERY*NICE* AND VERY RESPECTABLE TO STUDENTS UNLESS YOU PUSH HER BUTTONS. DEPENDING ON THE CLASS, SHE CURVES GRADES.
Ms. Cruz is somebody you love and detest at the same time. EVERYTHING posted is 100% true...EVERYTHING...the good and the bad. Sad thing is she is the best chem instructor at Cy-Fair. FYI. If you can drive to the North Harris campus 2 times a week, look up Tosha Barclay's hybrid class. You will thank me 1,000,001 times.
the only good thing about her are her curves and power points...other than that she's extremely condescending! Refuses to help you with h/w or other questions you have during office hours b/c she says it's "unfair" to other students....very VERY unaproachable..if you want to keep you sanity dont take her
she's crazy....VERY hard grader on lab reports, she seems to take off for stupid stuff other prof's would only glance at...exam curves are nice but the exams are kinda difficult...you cant talk to her b/c she'll most probably talk down to or yell at you..thinks her pp's are a blessing and wont stop reminding you about the time she put into them
cruz is a very good professor. test/lab exams are ok (its not that hard as along the student reads her notes) quizzes are easy cause she basically gives you answers before taking the quiz.just FYI!! cruz does not grade the lab reports, the dept.'s helpers do and depending on which one grades your reports equals your grade.
This was the only teacher available for Chem 2 so i took her. Very hard on grading but then she gives transmutations for everything but lab reports (11/20 times your grade + 45)So its easy to pass. Makes you learn everything but still pretty mean. At Cyfair you have to take her for chem 2
Great teacher. Enjoyable to be in. At first, she will seem a bit anal about things but, as the year progresses you will end up liking her. Spend a good amount of time on lab reports. She curves everything but lab reports. You will NOT fail this class if you attend class and look over her test review prior to tests. Thanks Prof. Cruz!
So I guess Ms. Cruz use to be a great teacher, but she has gotten out of control!!!! Have talked to several of her older students and she is nothing like that anymore. Head of Department and asks like she cant be stopped. Has no respect for younger students. Aweful teacher.
Her tests are fair if you study your concepts, read, and practice the problems (backwards and forward). Lab reports frustrated me the most, she would count off for EVERYTHING that is not labeled, in place, or count off multiple times for one mistake that leads to others! She warms up as you go along the semester.
Eventhou she has bad attitude sometimes but she is sweet at heart and really care about students. Her curves are nice since the exam is tough. Lab test is not bad. Overall she is a good teacher and knows her materials, just stop complaining and follow the instruction. You will be fine.
Professor Cruz is a very smart woman. She used to be a chemical engineer. She's mean at first but she does that to weed the dumb people out. She curves her test like no other. She reviews before her quizzes and if you take the time to study for her exams you should do fine. WORK OUT THE PROBLEMS. it'll benefit you.
Crus is a horrible teacher and person. I think she is bipolar. She grades the lab test now and she is picky with every little thing. She has NO RESPECT for her students and if you don't understand something and repeated ask her to explain it another way she gets very mad and she is very impatient. I would tell everyone not to take her class.
Didn't care about this class the whole semester and managed to get an A. I dont understand how people failed her class. She does BIG curving on her tests which are a little hard, but with the curve it all evens out. ...She is a little bipolar but still an easy teacher...
She is a nice person outside of class. In class when a student asked a question she would get all pissy and would basically ask the class why we did not understand what we were doing. She does not explain things very well. She does "transmute" your test grades quite a bit, which does help your grade. basically show up for class and be nice and she
Professor Cruz really makes you study and understand the materials. She can be very strict in grading the lab report but she curves the exam grade like no other. She is smart and knows her materials, I would rather take her than someone who just gives out tests so everyone can make A. Her lectures are interesting too. Thank you Mrs. Cruz!
She doesn't really help you with lab, or lecture. If you ask her a question, she'll tell you to read it again, and again, and if you finally get her to show you how the problem is worked, she'll make remarks as if youre stupid. she gives you a 0 for putting an "A" instead of "a" and vice versa. SURVIVAL = suck up to her, or study youre A off.
Professor Cruz is a GEM. She can be tough on her students but ultimately wants everyone to succeed. She takes the subject matter very seriously, as she should, and executes her lectures impeccably. Not an easy class by any means so plan your class schedule accordingly. If you're serious about succeeding, you won't be disappointed. Highly recommend.
Horrible class and teacher honestly has to be the worst experience having her as a teacher!
I hate this lady and she hated me. But she is lenient on "transmuting your grade" yes she will scold you for being stupid and will take some time getting used to. But if your disciplined in school her class can be easy if you do your work and study.
Only take her in the evening. Straight-Forward Teaching Style, Reviews before quizzes, Study for your tests. She does curve quite a bit. She's a good teacher, but is just scary strict.
First off she thinks everyone taking the class has already taken Basic Chem. She complains a lot and makes you buy a lab book that she wrote. Her teaching style is confusing and her tests are very hard. She does however give curves on the tests. She will embarrass you in class. Her teaching style is also very confusing.
Has high standards of your 1405 knowledge. Gets annoyed when she has to reteach things "you should already know" which isn't fair due to the fact that not every 1405 class is taught her way (my 1405 was at another location). Yes, she is strict, but she is very organized and she teaches very well- you'll learn from her. I feel prepared for Chem II.
I took this only for the lab, and by far the worst Chem 2 professor I've had. She rather you follow specific directions ex.( write "a" not "A" as the answer) instead of understanding the material. She expects you to have formally written labs for every lab. Whiny when you don't understand, and harsh on grading. Overall Horrible.
I attribute my success to Professor Lourella Cruz. Without her help and guidance I probably would not have attained the success that I have in my profession. She inspired my classmates and me to be the best we can, not just in Chemistry but in our lives outside of school, as well. Some thinks she is strict, but she only wants the best from us.
Mrs. Cruz inspired me to achieve more than my expectations. I was very hesitant to take an online course in Chemistry, but she made it quite easy to follow. She was cheerful doing discussion forum and chats and made us understand concepts and applications on line. She was very prompt with responding to questions even online. I love Mrs. Cruz!
The posts for the 14 are clearly not real, either she posted herself or somebody she paid to do it. Am telling she is hard to get along with.
She is strict. You will need to re-study/review material from Intro and Chem I to do well because she does not spoon feed anything. Her test will be all words and you will need to know how to turn it into normal chemistry lingo to be able to complete the problems. She also builds her questions on previous lessons learned.
Professor Cruz was an excellent teacher. She can be a bit harsh sometimes, but it's only because she wants her students to succeed. She is very helpful outside of class and during test reviews as well. As long as you are willing to study a reasonable amount of time, you will do well in this class.
She is quite strict but for the good of students. Maybe if she was not encouraging the students, I might have dropped or failed.
I had to work for my grade, but Prof. Cruz gave a lot of guidance and encouragement. The course was difficult but she made it easy with her clear explanation. I wish that she will teach Organic Chem in the near future.
Best Chem Professor I've ever had. She makes me fall in love with Chemistry. Yes it's hard to make A in her class, but you should be proud of yourself if you can do it. She explains things really well and always answer your questions clearly. HIGHLY RECOMMEND her for those who really want to study!!!
She comes off as rude but towards the end she becomes nicer and she grows on you. You will have to work for the grade, a lot of studying, her reviews don't help at all for the multiple choice part of the exams. She teaches at fast pace and doesn't like questions and expects you to know every single little thing from the previews chem course.
I admit that I have to work hard for my grade, but it prepared me very well for university work. I already came from a university when I took her and by far she is the most professional professor I ever had. She makes student use critical thinking than just memorizing stuff. She pushed me to reach my potential! My B was like an "A" to me.
Professor Cruz makes her students EARN their grades. In the beginning, I thought I could just breeze through her class, but I soon learned I have to work hard for my grades which made me actually learn to love Chemistry. I now feel prepared to go to a University. I will be taking Chem 1412 from Professor Cruz next term!
I was mad like crazy in the first two meetings of the class. But after those first two meetings, I realized that Professor Cruz actually helps us students prepare for more challenges in the future and to transfer to a University. I took her in Chem 1411 and I am now in her Chem 1412 class. Even my parents were surprised at my achievement.
I was failing the class by mid semester and wanted to drop, but if I did I will be delayed in graduating by a full year. With the guidance of Professor Cruz, I raised my grades, not just to mere passing (D) but I was able to pass the course with a C. Professor Cruz helped me cope with the difficulties that I was in. I thank her immensely.
I am rating Prof Cruz so that I can write these comments. Had I believed on what some students told me about Prof Cruz, I wouldn't have enrolled in her class. I was very nervous because I entered late due to some family matter. She went out of her way to make sure that I was able to catch-up and she gave me the resources that helped me do well.
My best friend pushed me to take Chemistry from Prof. Cruz. My friend had high regard for the professor, so I became obsessed in actually trying her out. I just needed another science credit in order to graduate. So I took Prof. Cruz. My best friend was right - Professor Cruz was great she inspired me to get an "A".
I took Chem I under Prof. Cruz some years ago and because I did not work hard only got a C. I wanted to retake Chem 1411 again under her but changed my mind and took Chem II instead. She was very helpful even outside of the classroom and I was able to get a B in Chem II. I have not seen any other teacher who is as efficient as her.
My best friend recommended me to take this class. At first I thought that Professor Cruz was very very strict. But as the semester passed, I realized that I became a better student (and person) because of her guidance. She makes her students behave like real College Students. I'm very glad that my friend recommended her to me.
It was the second time I took Chem 1411 when I took it from Professor Cruz. Yes, she scared me at first, but later on I realized that her rules and guidelines made her students find the right way to do things and get good grades. Because of my poor chemistry background I almost failed the course if not for Mrs. Cruz's help. Thank You!
After delivering my second child, I could only attend college part-time. When I saw that Mrs. Cruz offered a chemistry lecture course, I jumped and took it. I heard how she could make it easy for non-traditional students to do well, and they were right. Mrs. Cruz was very prompt in responding to my questions and emails. got an "A"!!!
I have looked forward to taking a chemistry class from Ms. Cruz because my two older siblings took her and they loved her. When it was my turn I was under pressure at first but later I discovered that my older siblings were right. Ms. Cruz was fantastic. I didn't even take intro chem but she helped me get an "A". I recommend her to all my friends
I only needed to pass another Science course in order to graduate. The only class that fit my schedule was under Ms. Cruz. I was not giving her my full attention because like I said I only needed a C. But she caught my attention; I worked harder. She gave her students all the resources to do well; I managed to get a "B". Good for my transcript.
I took Mrs. Cruz's chemistry 1411 and 1412 summer courses. She'll come off very assertive but end up easing down as the course progresses. She sets up the course towards where if you apply yourself and at least try a little you won't fail. Prepares extremely well for exams. Very professional, extremely glad I had her for chemistry, take her!!!
She is a extremely tough grader. She takes off points for simple stuff like writing in letter choice A when she has it as lowercase a. So i only got half a credit for all my answers even though the answers were right. Mrs. Cruz is unnecessarily rude. She makes it a hostile environment in her class and you dont feel comfortable asking her questions
She is a very tough woman, she will yell and make you feel a little dumb sometimes . She goes on long personal stories but ties it back to the lecture. VERY STRICT ON HOW SHE WANTS THINGS(points off labs)!!! If things don't go the way she wants them to go she will have complete come apart. Requires lab reports which are a hassle.
She grades very hard. She curves bad students to C but good students like me. She subtracts any point to B. We don't need book but her lectures are always boring. Don't take this class.
If your major is engineering, you should take her class. She may be a tough grader, and you may fail her class, but I will learn a lot of things. She teaches you how to write lab reports. It's very important when you work. If you takes her class, you won't say to boss, "My professors did not teach me how to write lab reports when I was in college.
You should not take her class.
Mrs. Cruz is an amazing professor! A little standoffish at first, but is one of the sweetest ladies I have ever met. She recognizes when a student really wants to succeed rather than just pass the class, and is always there to answer questions if you take the time to ask. Not an easy A, but if you really try, you will do well.
At first I was scared to take her class because I heard that she is tough. But after just 2 meetings, I started to really like Prof. Cruz. She always explains stuff using situations that we can see and feel.
Prof Cruz is tough and she will work your butt off, but it's undeniable that SHE IS VERY GOOD. I have learned a lot from her (not just chemistry but a lot more about life) in a few weeks than I have learned from other teachers combined.
I took an online Chem 1411 class because I cannot go to the campus due to personal problems. I was very scared, but Prof. Cruz helped me get rid of my fear. She was always there during discussion forums and I email her questions which she answers immediately. I could not have done it without her encouragement. I am now taking Chem II with her.
I wouldn't take her for online or hybrid classes unless you are great at chem and are more of a self-learner. I need actual lectures because I don't like living in the tutoring center. She seems like a sweet person at times however I found her tone extremely harsh during labs. students DO NOT appreciate being yelled at for simple mistakes.
Well she acts like you're in 3rd grade. Assign seating, odd ways to turn in HW. It is all very annoying. She is not helpful at all, if you ask a question then she will make you look stupid in front of the class. She dislikes people and makes you wonder why people like her. She does have her favourites and she's nicer to them. She is mean.
Rude. Yells at the class. Our first quiz people got points off for writing out a upper case "A" bc it wasn't an "a". Very uncomfortable class as she yelled. Also had favorites. Talked bad about another chem professor bc this professor did not give quizzes out each day. Yes, quiz each day in class and timed. Picky grader.
I just had her for my Spring Semester and Chemistry is a tough subject for me, I wasn't in great shape in the class but the proffessor really helped me get through the semester. Regardless of the hard exams and pop quizzes she is always there for the students and also expects 110% from the students. She is very passionate about teaching.
The class is tough but the professor offers a lot of help. Exams are hard that's why she curves. In order to be successful, pay close attention to lectures and do the practice problems. Read the book sometimes to have a more clear understanding about the concept(s) for the multiple choice part of the exam. Overall, I recommend this class and Cruz.
Professor Cruz is excellent at what she does: teaching. She'll help you out as long as she noticed you are putting effort in the class. Very clear and precise to solve a problem: she will provide you with simple steps to get the answers instead of the million steps given in the book to solve an excise. I will definitely take her again.
She convinced me to like Chemistry and helped me raise my grade from a C to a B. She offers free tutoring 3 hours a week, too.
I dropped out of school the previous semester, and my self esteem was not high. So I took Prof. Cruz hybrid course which was totally online for lecture and she required students to come in-campus for labs. With her help and dedication, I got an A in Chem 1411... I am taking her again for Chem 1412. She even guided me to be in the Honors Program
I took her for chemistry 2. The people who struggle in her class are the ones who dont pay attention and follow instructions. Even if you aren't that good at chem 1 she provides reviews in class and online for you to catch up, . She is loud and i have never been so scared of a short woman before. She is very helpful especially if you show effort.
I'm taking this class right now, and I regret taking her. Don't listen to people who make her look like an awesome professor, because she is not. She yells at her students for dumb reasons, and her lectures are super confusing.. I feel like I'm in hell right now taking this professor. Biggest mistake of my life!
Taking her right now and she's knows her science and teaches it good but you can't ask questions or else she yells at you and makes you feel dumb. I have a fellow classmate in the class who had her before and even she said "she was not this mean or rude before when i had her".
Do not take this lady, 16 people out of 30 drop the class, including myself. Her reviews are simple, but the exams... super hard. Good luck if you take this lady.
I took her class and on the first day she was screaming and yelling at everyone for not knowing some fundamentals. I dropped her after that day because that is not the environment I want to be in. I was not yelled at but I was angry for other students that was yelled at. It's not how any prof should behave. It is a college not highschool.
Stay away from Lourella Cruz. She treats her students like first graders, and yells at her students when you get the answer wrong to a question. She yells at you for any little mistakes you make in the lab. The exams are not scantron, but on the computer. The average grade for her exams are very low. Extremely low, do not take her.
Miss Lou comes off a great teacher in the beginning but shows otherwise later in the semester. Her exams are very tough. I received a 46 on my first exam but was curved to a 70.5. This shows that test scores for her class was exceptionally low. Another thing to look out for is that she is very condescending. He constantly yells at her students.
At first, this woman seems to be fairly nice. I'm certain the facade was dropped as soon as we were unable to drop her class without receiving a 'W'. Do not take this class if you value your sanity, she has crazy criteria for some of the littlest things. She offers no extra credit, and homeworks that we got 0's on cause she didn't tell us.
I dropped the class because this professor isn't professional at all. She yells at her students not to mention 19 people not including myself dropped the class out of 30.
My best advice while taking her is to throw away the book, its useless. Just review her power point notes a few times and you will do fine.
Lourella Cruz is the worst professor I have ever had. She's terribly inconsiderate and treats her students like they are 12. I've never had a teacher (College, high school, or middle school for that matter) who would yell and attempt to embarrass a student who asks a question. During exams/pop quizzes/lab reports you feel hopelessly unprepared.
She is the worst teacher I have ever had, and I already have a degree!! She yells the whole time in lab, and makes you feel ignorant. She is cocky and condescending. She gives you this pep talk about motivation, but she needs to work on her attitude!! I drooped this so quick, and retook the class with another amazing teacher!!
Professor Cruz handles the class on a compromise so that it is not that fast nor slow. She has deadlines to meet and guidelines to follow, which for me, makes it easier to do my work, especially lab reports. She is very fair and honest in grading. She actually makes her students earn their grade. She offers help to those who need it .
This is my first online class and I was afraid at first. But Professor Cruz made it easy for her students. Although she is supposed to be online only 8 hours a week, she usually checks the website very often daily so that students get responses to their questions. She is also available off line when we need her. I will take her again.
I already have two bachelors degrees and just taking the course so I can qualify to take my MCAT. After experiencing so many teaching styles from different professors, I have come to the conclusion that Professor Lourella Cruz is one of the best. She really loves to teach and makes each student special. I will be taking her Chem 1412 next.
This the one class I regret taking because she will be screaming through out her entire lab, telling you , you did something wrong. Many people already have dropped her class because of the attitude she has in a Laboratory class. She really doesn't seem like she wants to help the students. I dropped this class because it was no help at all.
Chemistry 2 is not that hard to comprehend, its her arrogance, attitude, and treating her class like its the only one you have that I couldn't handle. The work isn't hard, whats hard is finishing the tests that are packed full of information written ass backwards while she takes 20 mins at the start of class to start the test w/o giving extension.
I cant say much about the way she lectures, because I took her online and it was somewhat confusing. There is a lot to read!!! I could never relate the quizzes with the lecture, I felt so lost. At the lab things didn't go well either, she yells at you if you don't to exactly as she says. She can get frustrated REALLY easy. I'D NOT TAKE HER again.
Dr. Cruz is kind of a traditional old-school type of professor. She believes that you should make all your chemical solutions, standardize the solution, calibrate the instrument, and clean your glassware yourself. This is good for those who are capable of performing the task and not so good for those who can't.
Awesome, caring, excellent, inspirational, gives students real-life situations and how to succeed outside of the classroom.
At first I was afraid to take her class because I heard that she was tough. But I needed to take her class as a pre-requisite and her schedule suited me. I soon realized that what I heard were all wrong. Professor Cruz provides her students with all the needed resources. She always checks the discussion board and gives great comments. Love her
Mrs. Cruz is one of the best chemistry professors. I was nervous to take her class based on other reviews, but she truly cares for her students and wants you to succeed! Yes, she's strict but it only helps in the long run. She tells you exactly what is expected. She's also so adorable and has an amazing personality! Very inspirational and respected
I already have a BS degree and took this class for credit so I can qualify for grad school. I recommend other students to take Professor Cruz's class because I learned A LOT, about professional insights in addition to Chemistry. She is so caring, not just in class but outside, as well. Gives great advise about LIFE also.
This is the second time that I took Chem 1411, but it seemed that I learned a lot of new things that Professor Cruz include in our lectures and she relates almost every concept to the real world. Yes, she makes students work hard for the grade BUT we really learn a lot. And if you allow her, she will give previous advise regarding the Industry.
Chem II is a very difficult class, but if you care to actually learn the material, this professor is for you. She is extremely picky about nearly everything, but gives feedback. She is well respected in the industry and definitely teaches a lot of life skills alongside the curriculum. Gives great test reviews and instructions for her assignments.
Class itself was fine. Tough grader, but teaches well. That being said, do not take her if you do not want to be talked down to on a daily basis. I'm glad I didn't speak up because if you asked a question she would yell at you and be condescending. I cried several times just because I didn't want to have to go back to that place. Don't take her!
Prof. Cruz may be intimidating at first, but don't let that put you off. She is very caring and sweet once you get to know her. I learned so much from her about Chemistry and the engineering industry. The syllabus is very clear and everything you need to know about the course is on it. Just beware that there is a quiz before nearly every class.
I was afraid of taking Prof. Cruz but my schedule fit her scheduled class... I am so lucky to have had her! I learned a lot, not just in Chemistry of life outside of school.... how to be a professional in any field. Although I did not achieve the grade that I aimed for, I am still happy of the outcome of this semester. I recommend Prof. Cruz.
This was the first time that I took an online class, much more for a Science course. But Ms. Cruz was very good in reaching out to her students. She provides great discussion responses to our posts and even animates her lecture notes. She also was available for tutoring. I became a believer of hard work pays off even for online class. Bravo!
DO NOT TAKE HER!!! Horrible teacher! Her lectures are based on powerpoints, that are not well explained. Slow at grading! She never posted the grades online! She yells constantly at class! when she takes the time to talk about a lecture she ends up talking about how wealthy her family is or all of her health issues.
I took her in the Summer and it was hectic , with 4-1/2 hours of class daily from Monday to Friday. Prof Cruz helped me and my classmates how to budget our time and prepare a strategy for proper study. Lectures became more fun after the 3rd week. I wished that I took her for ALL of my Chemistry courses. I feel ready to complete myt bachelors an
One of my friends warned me NOT to take Prof. Cruz. However, my older sister took her some years ago and advised me to take her if I want to be successful. So I took her last semester, and my sister was so right. I learned a lot, but of course I needed to work hard. Now I am in my Senior Year and will graduate this year and thank Prof. Cruz!
Most of my classmates, who just want to get credits, do not like the professor because they are lazy to work. I have learned a lot from Professor Cruz in 6 weeks than from my other classes in 16 weeks. She taught me how to budget my time by preparing a realistic schedule for work, home and school
Honestly, professor Cruz is the most difficult professor I have ever had. All she did was scream at the class and belittle everyone. Whenever you ask a question she just yell at you because you didn't comprehend. Idk how she even got a 3.5 as a rating. I don't know anybody in my class that would take her again. PLEASE DONT TAKE HER
She talks about how she likes teaching but honestly just screams at her students if you ask a question. I'm suprised by her eating being so high. I wouldn't take her again, but take her at your own risk
Writing this to save a student from taking her class. This professor should be your last resort. Don't waste your time.
I have to admit that I did not like the course at first because the lecture was all on line. However, Professor Cruz would meet some of use who need more help, and she explained the lessons, that we took online, to us personally and helping us with practice problems. I was failing by mid-terms but raised my grade to a B with Professor Cruz's help
Wants us (her students) to succeed outside of the College. Gives us hints on how to get scholarships and earn service credits.
Took this course over the summer & was the worst mistake! This professor is the toughest professor i have ever taken! DO NOT TAKE HER! She is a hard grader & her lectures are confusing! All she talks about is her past students, & fam. She tells stories that are irrelevant. Also you are not allowed to open the door for your classmate only she can.
She was tough but with good reasons. She wants us to succeed in life and as professionals, so she gives as advice on how to be a professional. She conducts tutoring sessions to those who need additional instructions to prepared for exams. She emails those who are absent and gives them the notes of what they missed.
My two older sisters both took their chemistry classes from Professor Cruz, so it was just logical that I take her, too, although I was hesitant. Prof. Cruz taught me study ethics that I have not seen from my other professors. Yes, she is quite FIRM, but in a d sweet way as well. I am not as hardworking as my sisters so I am happy with my B.
I am an International Student and I have gone to many universities and colleges here in the U.S. and abroad, but I have never met and took a course from an awesome professor as Professor Cruz. She can take a difficult lesson and make it into a real-life situation so that we could relate to the applications and principles. She helped me a lot!
She spends most of her time talking about her past and how she is disabled. She spends the rest of the time belittling everyone else. I took her honor course so, be prepared to print out all your notes before class starts. All the math is done by her in class, if you miss it then you are out of luck. Good luck coming up with a good research project
One of the worst professors i have ever had, she loves quiz's, and the majority of the lecture she spends talking about her self, friends, or family members. The few times she talks about chemistry she makes the lectures extremely boring. Overall would not recommend this professor.
She is hands down the most difficult teacher I have ever had. quizzes every lecture had to buy extra printer ink due to printing everything online from her D2L. her teaching style is writing on the board and for you to write it down in the blanks on your powerpoint pointers. (the powerpoint does not have the problem completed) if u skip class SOL
Very clear cut on guidelines and requirements. Teaches not just the curriculum but how to succeed outside of the classroom. Includes real-life situations even when teaching technical stuff. You need to work hard for your grade.
Even though this was a hybrid class, Professor Cruz was available to us, her students both online and in-campus. She was fast to respond to our questions and discussion comments. When we cannot attend the live chat, we can email our questions and she answered immediately. She gives us review before each exam. I encourage others tot take her.
Professor Cruz challenged me to the best of my ability. She returns graded papers and reports fast. She is available at her office or vial email and our website. She always relates the lessons to real-life situations.... The course was difficult but Prof. Cruz made is interesting and fun. Thank you Professor Cruz.
She made the course harder than it needed to be. Was not clear on the grading and does not put grades in online at all! The only way to succeed in this course is to spend ALL your time on this one class. Do not take in the summer, it is way too much work in such little time. She gives hard quizzes every class day and test are 50% short answer.
Very passionate and helpful. If/when a student has no calculator, Prof. Cruz will lend you one. If a student cannot afford to buy a book. Professor Cruz will lend you a book or give you printed lecture notes. She really wants her students to succeed. Yes, the course is difficult but Professor Cruz will explain the lesson so we understand.
At first I was afraid to take this course. But my friends encouraged me to enroll. I am glad I did. At first I was struggling but with the help of Professor Cruz, I caught-up and developed good study habits and learning skills. Professor Cruz returns graded tests and reports so fast, we learn from our mistakes. She is very caring in many aspects
I enrolled in this course to get chemistry credits, but I also learned about real life and the outside world. Prof. Cruz always used life experiences during her explanation of the different topics, so students understand the applications better. She also gives us advise on how to apply for work and be a good professional.
When I was taking my pre-requisites, I met Professor Cruz at the Tutoring Center and she helped me a lot even thought I was not in her class. So the next semester, I took her class. I am fortunate to have done so. She inspired me to do my very best and use my potential. I learned a lot of life's lessons in addition to Chemistry.
I finally was able to enroll in Prof. Cruz's class. Her classes are always hard to get in because they get full fast. My older sister and cousin always told me to take from her and I met her at the Tutoring Center tutoring anyone who asked for her help. Her lectures are so functional because she relates chemistry to real life.
Last semester, I stared with failing grade. Professor Cruz boosted my confidence and helped me with tutoring and I passed the course. She provided me with resources that were otherwise not available to me. I would have dropped or failed if not for Professor Cruz.
Many students only rate professors when they have complaints. So my friends and I would like to show others how good Professor Cruz really is. She provided nourishment not only to our stomachs but also to our mind and hearts. Always inspired us to do better.
I took a hybrid class from Professor Cruz because of my hectic work schedule. I was totally struggling right from the start and even wanted to give up. But Professor Cruz nudged me to continue and helped me with online chats and personal tutoring on Saturdays after our lab session. I not only survived but did well. Thank you Professor Cruz!
Even though our class was in Chem. 1412 (Gen. Chem 2), Professor Cruz helped us review on Intro Chem and General Chem 1 so that we could do well in her class. She made us understand the abstract concepts by giving us "Reality Situations" to apply the chemistry concepts. I even tell my parents and siblings all her stories and they become inspired.
I am currently taking her for Chemistry II, and she is literally the worst professor I've ever had. She constantly yells at everyone during lab sessions, very confusing lectures, she will belittle you and humiliate you each time you do something wrong. She will seem like an awesome professor at first, but will make you want to cry by the 2nd week.
I am an honor student and tried to stick it out until I knew it will affect my GPA. Time and time again I approached her and she turned me down in clarying my questions and refused to meet me outside of office hours. I had classes during her office hours so meeting was impossible. She had favorites in her class and I didn't fit her mold.
I took her because there were some good reviews. Horrible decision. She makes her own powerpoints and expects you to print them and bring them to class. Doesn't want students taking notes by hand (if you do she writes your name down and won't give you any favors). Is very strict over the small things. I payed attention but lectures are confusing
DON'T TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!! At first she seems good but she only wants you to pay attention to her stories and barely get to the lesson. She doesn't let you use a TI-84 calculator for anything, wants you to print out the lectures ahead of time and judges you by writing your name down.
I took this class last semester and did not learn anything although I passed the course. Then I enrolled in Prof. Cruz class and was just blown away by what I have discovered and learned, not just about Chemistry but practical life as well. Great professor and wonderful person!
I already have a Bachelor's degree but came back to take more courses to prepare me for Grad School in a STEM major. At first I was so nervous because I am older than other students. But Prof. Cruz made me feel "at home". She suggested a lot of methodology and strategy to help students do well in class. I did and I learned a lot! Got an A, too.
Professor Cruz is the best professor I ever had, and I have gone to different colleges and universities already. She treats everyone well regardless of whether you're smart or not, different culture, etc. She explains the topics so that everyone can relate and understand. When a chapter is boring, she makes is interesting and fun. I love her.
The labs are so time-consuming & her hybrid class is outlined very poorly. She changed the outline thruout the semester twice. she will not post any grade on D2L either. You will asker a question and she will talk for a long time, not giving u an answer. She also said edition 11 was required but all her power points reference editions 8,9 and 10.
Worst teacher I've had I think ever. I took her because it was the only time I could take chem 2 and much regretted it. Be wary of the positive reviews here, multiple reviews posted on the same day all saying how she inspired students in life as well as Chemistry?? That's a pretty sad tactic and absolutely something she would do...
Although I truly wanted an A, I am very happy to have obtained a B because I learned so much from Professor Cruz, not only in chemistry but in other fields outside of the classroom. She truly cares for the success of the students, not just teaching chemistry. I also see other professors asking for her advise and help in their teaching.
I have completed all of my chemistry requirements but felt that I did not learn anything from my previous professors. I was to go to great university, so I decided to enroll in Prof. Cruz.... I learned so many things (not just chemistry) that are very important in life. My university professors were impressed of my chemistry foundation!
Hybrid course No study guides Quiz each Friday Quizlet WONT help you Good story teller, but confusing lectures Precise, long & thorough Lab Reports Deducts points for everything on paper Toughest grader High expectations & strict She does yell, but nothing crazy Wouldn't recommend this class at all unless you have a STRONG Chem foundation
All the positive reviews have been written by Lourella. She writes the same thing over and over about how she teaches life skills too, pathetic. Chemistry is already difficult, she is much better at putting her students down than teaching anything. Please be aware she is desperately trying to raise her ratings here as she is a lousy teacher.
Horrible teacher. Ridicules her students and the only subject she really cares about is herself. Lonestar needs to get rid of her, she's absolutely wretched as a teacher and shouldn't even be teaching high school chemistry.
I gave this teacher a chance for Hybrid. The reviews pushed me to select her. First day, okay! Good story teller. First lessons, NO WAY! Increasingly got harder & I tried my best. Tutoring every single day. Everyone was lost, excepts for people who already have degrees. No study guides. TEST ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO PASS. She is caring but insanely hard!
I took and withdrew from her class Fall of 2019. I decided to take her hybrid class since it was my 2nd time retaking chem2. She treats her students as if we are children (assigned seating), talks down, and always talks about herself. My mom was diagnosed with cancer so I needed extra time on her DIFFICULT lab reports, she did not care.
I felt as if she was all over the place . She does curve so it helps MANY students. Her test are somewhat difficult.
She is the worst and rudest professor I have ever met. She could yell at you for everything you did wrong. No caring for her student. She put herself above anyone and no respectful to students. Never ever take her class again.
She's literally the worst professor I've ever had, don't take online, she doesn't actually teach a thing her reviews are a joke does nothing to help review for exams, her labs don't do anything, but confuse you more on the subject she failed to teach you, and her feedback is the most hilarious not wanting showing how we messed up, she should retire
I am full of hatred for this professor. If I saw her on the street, I probably would not even recognize her (because I literally have never seen her), but her vibes would be so negative and hateful that I would immediately know its her. I would rather pour acid into my eyeballs than ever take her again. Avoid this professor at all costs.
I took her for the 8-week course that started during midterms. I had to drop the class a few days in because I was falling behind in my other classes. Anyways, I asked would she be willing to upload a few extra practice problems. She said "my young niece and nephew can solve this problem with a basic calculator." It was a wrap for me after that.
I decided to take the 8 week version of this class as the last credit I'd need for my degree. I am withdrawing because the confusion, lack of clarity and lack of effort on this professor's part concerns me. Because this class seems rigged to fail, I'm withdrawing to save my GPA. Only the negative reviews are accurate, pretty sure she did the rest.
I know people on this site can rate a good professor poorly, but I can appreciate a good professor with challenging work. This is not that. All her test/quiz are self written, often with typos, vague wording, and purposely confusing. Tests are a nightmare. She is nice, but this course was terrible and translated terribly to online. Be warned
If I could, I would give this professor a 1.5. Im currently taking the 8-week course and I understand it was going to be difficult because i've done it in the past, but wow. Something I was not prepared for was the extremely detailed grading system she seems to have.Long story short,it is tedious and confusing. Also, extremely tough grader.Avoid her.
