Tries to be helpful and supportive of students.
pretty good
Awesome prof, super friendly and always willing to help, she's great
Try to be helpful prof! but the terms that she used make me confuse and unclear
boring as all get out, but nice lady though
Good teacher, very helpful.
She was definitely worth going to nightclass for! SO much better than Davidson!
Good prof, good notes but babied first year classes
as ur classmate has correctly identified... make it stop! :) So true.
Can be annoying @ times but nice Good tests MUCH better than Davidson/Schellhorn
Excellent, very clear, too much reference to upper year courses
a vertical red line indicates this is not in your notes, you should copy this down, because you are in first year and are so stupid you will not realize this on your own... Really though a good prof
SHES great!! very helpful and most of all, she cares SOO much about her students..Dont be afraid to ask for help.
Great Proff. Sometimes not too helpfull since she redirects you your Webct Notes. :P. but other than that, great clarity and entusiasm! YAY!
I used to think I would love Biology... *sigh*
great teacher, really there for students
Nice lady, and seems to love the material too much. I never seen her in a bad mood, always smiling. She has great notes and she is easy to follow through lecturing. Her tests were easy in 1a03, but were increasingly difficult in 1aa3.
great and approachble prof. She's there to teach and very enthusiastic!
A ver nice prof, but she reiterates points a little too much.
Good teacher, very helpful
Excellent prof!
lovaye is great teacher. i hear she's good at street hockey too.
I come to her class now-a-days... she does a much better job than Bedard... i really like her class.. she knows what she is doing... and her notes are clear
expectations and objectives clearly defined: you know what to exepct. Fair and resonable on tests. Lectures aren't too bad; she has a good control on the class, and her lectures notes are very helpful
good prof
Wonderful notes that will prepare you for the tests very well but still requires you to read the text a bit. Very clear and willing to answer any questions. Very involved with students in person or over the web
Very clear, helpful and happy to be teaching. She engages you into the lecture. If you're not there to learn new things and just think lecture is a boring waste of time, you may not like her, but for those who enjoy biology, she's great
Definitely not as good as Davidson and too enthusiastic for my liking. But I liked how she engaged us in her lecture by having us fill in the blanks in her notes...although you could have just skipped and filled it in from the text yourself. Not the best but not the worst either.
Doc Kajiura is awesome. Never before have I had a prof who was so helpful in my chosen field of study. Sometimes my interest lags, however I always learn and simple exposure to the subject has improved my abilities greatly. Thanks Ms. Kajiur.
Worst professor ever, all she does is read the captions from the textbook, very poor teacher.
Boring
Really great and detailed notes. Provides interesting examples.
I love your lecture!!! it's fun to go to biology class!

Amazing first year teacher. The most helpful you'll find.
she is a really good prof and her notes are good and are what comes out in the test. if you go for all her classes ur guaranteed to do well
Very good instructor, Very passionate about biology. Good lectures and notes. Can't really ask for much.
She is a very helpful prof. Her tests are very fair and primarily from her notes. By far, one of the best and my fav first year prof.
Dr. Kajiura was an awesome prof. Simply follow her class notes/fill in blanks sheets and you're good to go! She made things interesting by playing "battle of the brains" with an incentive of a prize pack going to the winner :) She's the most helpful and approachable prof I know of!
Very clear and willing to help. Incredibly detailed but sometimes rushed due to lots of info and lack of time. Has interesting examples and answers lots of questions. Tends to spoonfeed but the exams are fair. Overall, an enthusiastic and knowledgeable prof!
Great notes. Posts the notes online with blanks and then you follow along in class and fill them in. Really clear in what you need to know. Best first year bio teacher by far.
awesome.... sexy ;)
good!
Dr. Kajiura is known to be very nurturing to some. However, she does get upset easily when students don't understand material covered. She has been known for ridiculing her students in class. For example, a girl put up her hand as Kajiura was finishing a thought. Much to the class's surprise, Kajiura snapped and made fun of the student. Nurturing?
Dr. Kajiura is always cheerful and polite to students. The McMaster Biology Society named an award (The Kajiura/McIntosh/Stone Award) to acknowledge how much she helps students.
Dr. Kajiura's an EXCELLENT prof! I enjoy her interactive lectures. She challenges students to APPLY concepts. I've had her for 1st yr and 3rd yr courses. Her generous advice has helped me succeed at university!
Dr. K Rocks. Liked her cancer model 'cos it links molecules, cells, genetics, evolution, stems cells, plus nanotechnology.
Do not take any of her classes unless you enjoy being talked to like you are 5 years old. That said, she babies you and the class itself is very easy. The few times I actually attended class and had to listen to her almost made the easy A not worth it though.
She's a great prof & makes us work hard. Negative comments posted don't reflect the attitude of majority, only the unhappy few.
good prof, readily available and enthusiastic in lecture
I've had her for 1m03 too. Solid prof. Really easy; she fills the lecture notes so you barely have to right anything (which can make lectures really boring).
Excellent teacher, always there to help.
Dr. Kajiura is one of my favorite profs. I find it refreshing to have a professor who is so approachable and enthusiastic about teaching.
You are an amazing and helpful professor whom truly enjoys teaching. Your love for biology is contagious!
Dr.K is the best proff I have ever had!!! Shes makes everything seem so simple even when it isn't! Also, her lecture outlines are sooo helpful when studying and I love how she talks about why the stuff we are learning is important and uses real world examples.
Dr. K. is good! - Of course, I don't want a "rating under review" so I won't exercise my true freedom of opinion here.
The course material was very useful and it was enjoyable to learn the material. Usually i see some people sleeping in my other classes, but in Dr. Kajiura's class i have never seen anyone fall asleep, because the material was well presented and kept the student interested.
Dr. K. is a WONDERFUL prof!!! She's is always willing to help you with Biology and other things, like finding jobs. I love her lectures since there's lots of student-prof interaction, especially the iClickers questions & Battle of the Brains game.
Dr. K is AMAZING! I LOVE her lectures!!! I like that she encourages everyone to think positively & to help others. I participated with her Team Miracle Cures in the Run for the Cure for Breast Cancer Research. She's genuine & very compassionate!
I'm in 4th Yr Honours Biology. Looking back I'm SO VERY THANKFUL to have had Dr. K in my 1st Yr. Her advice helped me tremendously & to get a research position in LSB. She teaches, but she also mentors her students!
Cool prof, but she the last cookie in the day of the orientation date.... I want that cookie! But she was a one good prof!
Very nice and so sweet to everyone, even us obnoxious first-years, all the time. She may be the most organized person I have ever met in my life. Also, I hope I age half as well as she does!
Great prof, made you actually want to come to class. Lecture notes were immensely helpful. Tests were very fair. Enthusiasm was contagious.
Dr. Kajiura was by far my favorite prof in 1st yr. She cares cos she always stayed after class to answer my questions. Liked how she made bio real & relevant!
I enjoyed 1a03. I'm completing a 2nd degree and can really appreciate how Dr. Kajiura patiently facilitated us to search for answers, shift through the references, and become smarter "science citizens".
Dr. Kajiura is a great prof! She made you apply concepts. She's the only prof in 1st yr who actually teaches you how to study and helps you learn.
She's the BEST prof that I've had at McMaster. She's approachable & teaches with sooo much enthusiasm that it's fun to go to her lectures.
outstanding course was a reality check that our planet is precious. i now know what has to be done for sustainability thanx Doc K.
Thanks Dr K ! U made me use analytical thinking skills & that's what university all about. Luv ya!
Explains concepts well and gives many helpful study tips. One of my favourite profs in first year.
Liked this course immensely because it made me apply what I had learnt, especially with case based studies. Dr. K kept me interested throughout. Homework and clicker questions were helpful too.
I LOVED 1M03, it was definitely worth going to Dr. Kajiura's lectures during the spring. She went above and beyond to help us and direct us to improve as students and as members of the McMaster Community. Biology is my world now!
She's an AWESOME prof. Liked having her as my prof for the whole spring term, she was always there to help us with the material. Lecture discussions were thought provoking and directed me to think about integrated things in a broader deeper perspective. Can hardly wait to take another course with her!
Great prof midterm & exam were challenging, but questions were all pretty fair. She didn't baby us that's for sure! Impressed by how patient she is.
Dr. Kajiura is an exceptional professor and she made my 1st year bio experience so intriguing that i now want to go into the field of ecology :)
She hooked my attention during lectures. Gr8 videos and real world examples.
Lots to know in this course but if you attend lectures ,follow Doc K's advice and don't procrastinate things go GREAT! I'm gonna take more bio courses next term for sure, interesting stuff
Very positive attitude, enthusiastic, friendly, well-organized. You can tell she loves what she's doing. Notes were helpful, but the fill-in-the-blank style was annoying. Very fair tests.
Good having the written questions on tests they were really helpful. Now know that I'm better prepared for 2nd year courses & tests. Excellent prof!
She's an amazing prof. Helps in so many ways & inspired me to be a better person.
ok prof, but teaches the class as if there were 13 year olds sitting in front of her.
1M03 was my fave 1st yr course, so much so that I'm now specializing in Bio. Dr. K made the material relevant and struck an amazing rapport with us. Excellent study sessions and helped us find lab jobs.
I am a McMaster Alumni, who recently started medical school. I had the pleasure of taking several of Dr. Kajiura courses in 1st year and 4th year of my studies. I developed communication and research skills, which continue to benefit me as I pursue my MD. All thanks to Dr. Kajiura.
Most self transforming course I've taken. Issues are real. Doc K rocks!
Dr Kajiura , def one of the best profs , very clear, thorough and uses every lecture efficiently and wisely .
personally, I think this class is 1 of the best is 1st yr Dr. K is awesome, wouldn't change a thing
good prof, taught well & made Bio interesting
I took this course only because I had to, but Dr.K was a great lecturer and I ended up really enjoying the class.
Love Dr K shes always enthusiastic and cheery to our class , review sessions really helped me prepare for tests
Dr K is caring & friendly. Treated my friends & I with respect and encouraged us to take responsibility for our learning. As the guest speakers said Dr K will help you even after the course is done. How many profs do that? Dr K does !
this course relates to the real world , good lectures , hope to have her again for other classes
Gr8 course, exam questions were tough but fair.
Dr K is great. Bio 1a03 covered more concepts in more detail than I had previously . Good that theres lots of resources which helped
Needed the class for psychology; no comment.
Interesting course, learnt how crucial biology plays in our lives. Great prof. Final exam was fair.
Great teacher! Easy to talk to and explains fully all concepts, new and old.
Dr K's an excellent professor. Bio 1a03 was my best mark in 1st year, due to her amazing teaching. I LOVED how she incorporated active learning exercises in her lectures. University is about deep learning, not surface. She inspired me to think in a conceptual and applied way. I definitely feel prepared for Honours Biology !
Doc K is an amazing prof she really made me understand bio, everything was clear to me. Defintely helped me make the move from highschool to U. I hope to have her as a prof in the future.
I've had the pleasure of having Dr K for 4 undergrad courses and can attest that she is a great lecturer and her mentorship was key in guiding me to graduate research. She provides well-organized lecture outlines and supplementary resources to reveal the significance of the concepts. I enjoyed how her evaluations tested conceptual/applied info.
Top class professor. Incredible experience from start to finish. Dr. Kajiura is immensely organized and I liked the effective layout with the major project. Plus I learned a lot!
Amazing class! I really enjoyed this course. Like all her courses, they are well structured and she wisely allocates plenty of time towards the end of her lectures for us to ask questions related to the course and beyond!
Really good course:) Best group work experience that I've had at mac. Def helped my research project. Thks Doc K.
glad i took this course, it opened my mind to biodiversity, good course taught by a great prof
She's really nice. She tries to be really helpful
Although everyone knows bio is the hardest course in 1st year, it was my fave class and subject, outlines and suppl stuff are organized it was fun attending Dr Ks lectures. I think that I'm a lot more skilled about analysizing info now.
1. Bio is NOT the hardest course in first year. Try first year chemistry, any artsci or isci course, or first year physics. 2. Kajiura is the worst prof I have ever had. She spoon-feeds her students and treats them like they are in grade 9.
I like her teaching style...bio is not easy its challenging and interesting, I'm not exactly a morning person, but I attended all of her summer classes and enjoyed them. I listened to her advice and was able to land a lab position.
I will keep this review completely neutral so as not to incur the wrath of those who would not see anything unfavourable said about the professor in question. Biology is moderately difficult. Kajiura is moderately good. The course was moderately interesting, moderately difficult, and moderately stimulating.
I just graduated last week. Sooo grateful to have had a prof like Dr Kajiura for 3 undergrad courses. 4L03 was my capstone experience!
I loved this course that dr K taught. It had everything!!! Best moment was the our Research Team's seminar presentation. Dr Kajiura was always there to guide us, Lol even on weekends.
Her lectures and outlines are very helpful. I really enjoyed the real-world examples she provided as it helped me connect with the concepts. I went to her office hours and she was very helpful in further explaining difficult concepts to me in a new way than she had done in lecture, which shows she really can TEACH!
Spring course was really intense, but seriously good. Kajura made bio fun to learn. LOL I'm "an informed scientific citizen" now!!!
I recommend this course. It prepares you for research & grad school.
She's soooo helpful with career advice.
I found 1m03 lessons easier to learn. Dr K made learning Hardy Weinberg way more meaningful.
I appreciated how she genuinely cared about us in 1st yr
I'm really surprised that more people are not commenting on her extremely patronizing demeanour. I've only had two classes so far, but she actually asked the class if anyone had ever HEARD of DNA. I was insulted as much as I was laughing. Crazy.
I'm a teaching assistant for this course and attend her lectures. Dr. K asked the class about "DNA Bioinformatics" (not DNA), thought I mentioned that since I noticed that an earlier post was incorrect. I've enjoyed having her as a prof and mentor.
Excellent course! I've learnt valuable research skills on two levels: group and self-directed.So grateful to have experienced her mentorship.
Thrilled to have Dr K. Went to her office hours this week and she was a tremendous help. She's great to talk to, which is a blessing and appreciated :)
Really friendly prof. I like how Dr K links class topics together with research.
Her teaching style suits me. Nice that she lets me ask questions in class and answers all of my questions after class...lol even when I saw her in bookstore. I asked her about transgenic mice research sounds complex & interesting!!!
As a special needs student (auditory), she makes me feel welcomed at McMaster. I feel less worried now. Thks Dr K
4L03 is amazing.Best organized course by far, workload is tough but well worth it.
I like this course a lot, class notes are really nicely organized, topics esp. medical conditions are interesting. I can tell that Dr. Kajiura enjoys teaches us : )
This professor was literally the best professor that I have had at McMaster as of yet. She really cares about her students and will do anything thing she can to help them, as long as you as her in person for help. She made this course even more enjoyable for me, though I already loved the course. She has lecture outlines to follow and puts them up.
When Steve Jobs died we were all sad, Dr Kajiura helped us by relating the course topics to his pancreatic cancer and that gave us hope for potential research and cures. That was an inspiring lecture.
Very interested in what she teaches, which makes me even more interested in biology! But she overuses the word "inside" rather than "in." ex: "you will find this diagram inside the textbook ..."
I've learnt so much in every bio class. I like how her classes are interesting, fun & interactive.
Kajiura used a lot of real-world examples during lectures that were very interesting and relevant to the course material. She always encouraged class discussions and she was very clear in her expectations. Great prof and very friendly outside of class as well!
She was so nice! She made my first term at Mac better!
I attended everyone of Dr Kajiura lectures. Loved them!!! She's very organized, approachable, and friendly. I wasn't worried about asking her questions during lectures. The supplementary resources were good too. her practice questions & homework it showed me how to study better.
even though sometimes she might not be very clear on what she is exactly saying, she still has a great level of teaching. she is very organized and plans everything ahead of time. she provides the students with chapter outlines which can easily become helpful notes.
Very much enjoyed Dr Kajiura's lectures. I have a new-found love for biology and found the information was made relevant and interesting. She engaged me as a student with her methods of teaching and motivated me to succeed in my studies. I now want to learn about all the diverse fields of biology.
amazing prof she cared about us & how we did in the course & what we got from it, real life examples were sooo helpful
great teacher. kept things very interesting. she actually cares about what shes teaching. she is there for the students. overall she was my favourite prof at mac, but she overwhelms you on midterms and tests. i havent wrote any tests yet but there is so much to know, i wish she would cut that down. but anyways, still a great prof
Great prof, love her teaching style ,she posted questions early which motivated me to start working way in advance of the midterm amount of work was just right.
Liked Dr Kajiura's part of 1a03. I think her real-world examples helped me retain the material being taught because I had to put it into practice. No problem with high expectations good prep for next year.
Great Prof. Recommend Her.
So kind :). She was so caring towards the students and definitely wanted everyone to do well. Her style of teaching keeps you interested in lectures, and a lot of the times I didn't realize how quickly time flew by! She includes videos and applications to relate the course material to the world around us, and it keeps you engaged. Solid prof.
Bio 1M03 opened my eyes to how important Biology is. The case based study approach that Dr K uses challenged me to take ownership over my learning. I rose to her high expectations for us to grasp the course concepts. I now can confidently apply concept to problem solve. A skill that was honed in this course, thanks to Dr K
She is one of the few profs who have inspired me to think beyond myself and how I can contribute to the future of humanity. The biology-related knowledge that she has helped me to gain has provided me with these skills.
really great prof, made me love bio, really cares for her students
enjoyed her course very much but what impresses me the most is her humanitarian work and she is humble about that
Dr. Kajuira has her heart in the right place but she manages to spend more time telling us how to do well in her course than actually teaching course content. She assigns too much reading (the entire textbook basically). She does a good job of elucidating the thematic content of the course.
I like how Dr Kajura teaches using several sources for her lectures such as videos, case studies, real world examples. Not sure about the previous posting, since she told us on 1st day of lectures that we would be reading only certain sections of the textbook, def NOT the whole thing. She helps a lot during her office hours.
enjoying 1a03 lectures, they're at 8:30am and I haven't missed any of them since the lectures are so interesting, pace has been good. iClickers are helpful
She makes bio interesting and is clear about what we're expected to know like applying concepts.
I'm going into my 4th year and she is still one of the best professors I've had! Very passionate and interesting! Her note outlines are very helpful
She honestly does everything in her power to give you all the resources you need. She truly cares about her students and its really sweet. She couldn't make biology interesting for me though. I don't think anyone can.
Great prof. Liked the topics especially the real world examples and case studies.
My fave course and prof first term. Course exposed me to the relevance of Biology. Course requires lots of skills, teaches work ethic. I liked being motivated to high expectations.
Dr Kajiura is very helpful prof. She answered all of my emails and these were numerous!!! I should have followed her advice earlier, finally did and I got better marks.
As I reflect upon my studies at McMaster University, I am grateful for Dr Kajiura having been my mentor. I know that my next stage in graduate school will be exciting with new challenges and opportunities, I will embrace them since I feel confident that I have the research skills to succeed, thanks to Dr K!
very nice person, does a lot around the community! but would not want her as a prof... would not take the course again.
Great prof! Definitely changed my perspective regarding biology and how everything relates to it. I followed her study tips and did well.
Excellent professor! Has high expectations for students to study hard and prepare for tutorials, lectures, and tests. Her study tips work and finding out about her research was inspiring as I participated in the IMPACT Project that helped , Brad, who had suffered from a stroke.
She's a nice person but her classes are a little dull. I have a hard time staying awake...
Enthusiastic prof. Like her case studies. Tests are tough, but fair.
Like the lectures. Full of enthusiasm at 8:30. Wonderful!
She doesnt really teach that well in class. She spends more time talking about what you should know instead of what the actual content is. Like she keeps saying this is the way you should study and so on.
Her lectures help me identify and focus on the important concepts. She is clear about what is testable information for midterms and exam. With all the material we have to know I appreciated that she shared study tips.
Dr. Kajiura made going to lectures interesting,. can't believe how much I've learnt from her. I wasn't into Bio before I took this course, but now I am. Her study questions are a big help, so are her study tips , since I'm better with managing my time.
I like how Kajiura took me out of my comfort zone and encouraged me to take responsibility for my learning. By being more focused and self- disciplined , I now work better and solve problems with more confidence. My only regret is that I should have visited her office hours sooner. Like my CA said, she's a great prof and very helpful.
Go to her lecture, and expect to learn nothing. She is advertising her office hour all the time and teach nothing in class. In tests she gives you a lot of unreasonable questions asking you to memorize everything like researcher's names. She does train you to learn everything by yourself and how to get good grades. I guess can be good and bad.
was boring and talked more about her office hours and her experiences more than course content. her tests and exam questions were really hard and confusing! would NEVER take her class again
It was a pleasure having Dr. Kajiura for Biology 4A03. Her course has given me confidence in my research abilities. I loved collaborating with other research team members but also know that these classmates will remain my friends forever. I have a much greater appreciation of advanced topics in ecology!
Awesome professor! Dr. K does a wonderful job teaching the course. She motivated me to want to learn about biology. Fun learning about the notable classic experiments. Yeah, Meselson Stahl experiment is classic! I agree with her that it's important to acknowledge the amazing scientists of the past and the present.
Love Bio 1M03! Thrilled to be finally learning about biology with real world relevance that will affect my life and future generations. Really intrigued by course content and engaged by her teaching methods. Great prof- student interactions during in-class discussions.
Like the interactive lectures with class discussions and linkages to ecological concerns that living animals and humans are currently facing. All's good !
This course is a great experience for students in their final year of undergrad! There is no didactic instruction in this course, only major projects and small assignments completed in your group. Dr. Kajiura and her TA are always present if you need clarification or guidance.
Lectures are well prepared and interactive. I particularly like that Dr. Kajiura covers several supplementary case studies and interesting examples outside of the textbook. I noticed that a previous posting incorrectly said that just using the textbook is sufficient, that's so untrue. I enjoy lectures and being able to talk to the profs.
Really like the 2F03 course, she helps me during and outside of classes, her office study sessions are the place to be where I get extra help. I went to all the midterm test prep sessions and did better on the midterm test because of them.
Kajiura is a very approachable prof. She is kindhearted and is definitely there for her students. Although she lacks a good teaching ability. Her lectures are often boring and I found that I could read the textbook and get the same out of it then going to lecture.
Loved Dr Kajiura's lectures and her teaching activities since the in class discussions opened my mind to research and biology. I'm more focused on my academic career now. I started out being passive in class but quickly found myself participating more and learning things more quickly with her lectures.
Lectures were organized with clear learning objectives with strong links to research applications in ecology. Final exam review was the best of my courses. Dr K and Marvin helped us who were nervous to raise our academic work ethic by encouragement. Exam was a thorough evaluation of the concepts and fair.
Heres the thing, she was super helpful! But her lectures, hellful! All she had were images and then shed ask us a question and then not answer it. Random facts everywhere (they showed up on the exam) however very enthusiastic and ready to help you. Very sweet lady imo. Easy midterm! Easy to do well if you keep up!
I really connected with this course! Classes covered lots of research examples, which were totally helpful. Home study questions were tough but rewarding to solve. Exam review was based upon what topics we had requested. Ecology requires looking at things through multiple ways, which is exciting. Already thinking of taking 3rd ecology courses.
Great prof! I like how she encouraged me to take responsibility for my own learning and apply conceptual knowledge. A facet that I particularly liked about the lectures was that Dr. Kajiura helped me with all of my questions and made me work to find the answers to my questions, which helped my research skills and self directed work ethic.
She was a great prof, loves teaching biology and loves her students. She always advertised her office hours, and the projects that she's involved in outside of class for students. Great opportunities to get involved, she's very slow paced in lecture, goes over concepts too clearly if anything! Her tests are also very straightforward.
Dr. Kajiura doesn't just spit out an endless amount of information. She provides concise lecture outlines of what she will discuss in class, so you don't have to mindlessly copy every word she says. Great Lecturer and very passionate about what she teaches ! However course material is very dry.
She's an amazing prof who gives clear guidelines about how to study. If you come to class and pay attention to the concepts she emphasizes, you'll be fine for the tests
Dr. Kajiura doesn't just spit out an endless amount of information. She provides concise lecture outlines of what she will discuss in class, so you don't have to mindlessly copy every word she says. Horrible Lecturer and very passionate about herself! However course material is very dry.
Good prof with a positive attitude towards students. Held my interest in bio, especially ecology.
Impressed me with her enthusiasm and patience. I enjoyed group lecture activities. Made some new friends that I otherwise wouldn't have. Final exam was challenging but fair coverage of the lecture information.
Still early in the course. Good so far. Realizing that I have to come prepared to Kajura's lectures by reading the textbook and looking at her lecture resources or I won't understand the content. Just started following her advice about the learning objectives and its working okay and glad I'm in this classtt
Excellent prof this term ! Provides the fundamental concepts with linkages to applied research, which I absolutely love! Tests are challenging but clearly worded and fair. If you follow her advice, you'll do well in the course.
She makes you get use to solving application style questions, which is good . I'm a Science Society rep and she lets me promote our events before her lectures start and I appreciate that.
Very good prof for first year. She goes beyond the course and gives tips on how o survive first year, and the material on the test is made very clear beforehand. She's a great prof, but this course is so boring.
I liked Bio 1M03. The course is interesting, relevant, & valuable to me even beyond this term. It revived my passion to take more Bio courses.
Lectures -- the more you go and pay attention, the less reading and catching up you have to do. Reading- DON't read the whole textbook JUST read the graphs and figure legends and things you DONT understand. Tutorials- Amazing in giving you a broader perspective Overall, easy course--not too much effort.
Good prof! Lectures showed me different perspectives and applications related to ecology.
Kajiura was an amazing prof! Her test and exam questions were super easy and weren't tricky at all, if you pay attention in class and use her lecture notes as a study tool, this class is an easy A! I didn't even make my own notes, just used hers and did great! An overall amazing prof!
I liked the iClicker questions ,they helped me to do concept applications. Gives good advice.
Dr K understands the needs of students and gives great advice. She's enthusiastic. Her tests questions are challenging but fair they make you to think about content and solve problems. If you attend lectures and follow her advice, you'll do fine. I like how she gave us opportunities to help with research projects.
She's a very optimistic professor that's highly passionate about the course she teaches. Her midterm mc were fair and not difficult, however her long answer does require you to attend and throughly understand her lectures.
Best prof I had for first year! She would incorporate videos/animations especially during applied lectures which I found helpful. Midterm SAs required you to know the nitty-gritty details from web modules and applied lectures but overall they were fair. Only complaint I have is that she would play the Organelles song one too many times before class
Great prof. Kept my attention in class. Organelle song my fave.
She was a great prof, and I took her for Bio 1P03. The course content wasn't very heavy, but she took the time to explain it very thoroughly and answer all questions very respectfully. She really has a passion for teaching, which is always a boost.
If you don't go to her lectures, you WILL NOT get a good grade. Your mark often depends on the notes you make off her speaking and not from the lecture slides. If your notes aren't complete you will miss out on a lot of testable content. She definitely makes you work for the mark but show up and do the work and you'll be fine.
She was an angel of a prof! Super caring and inspirational. It is much easier to do well if you regularly attend the lectures.
Her exam isn't hard, but its super detailed. Most of her section was pure recall and very little application. Her midterms were easy, you just need to memorize everything. You must look at the new info in the readings and you must go to lectures for her supplementary info if you want a good grade. She is a very nice prof and super helpful.
Enjoyed 1M03... make me appreciate the world a lot more. Like the emphasis on applied knowledge taught during lectures. Focusing on concepts, study skills and applications helps me learn better,
Good prof. I used her study advice that helps a lot.
Her exam was super detailed, often from additional things she said beyond her lecture notes + the videos she made you watch (watch these attentively not passively)! Its not hard to do well for her portion but you do have to memorize all the details! She gives study tips and genuinely wants you to do well but also work for it so stay caught up :)
Very satisfied with Dr K. I learnt a lot from her lectures. She taught in a way that I know will retain it for years to come. Like that she promotes projects that students can get involved with.
Easy explanations and her MC are easier than most, provided you have studied and understand the material. It is always two choices that are completely wrong, two choices that are similar (from which you have to pick the correct answer), and the occasional questions that have options like both A and B, all of the above, or B and C.
Enjoyed her lectures a lot. If I had a problem understanding something, she can explain in a different way so that I get it. I found the test questions tough but fair.
I have new appreciation for Bio. She's dedicated and enthusiastic. Follow her advice about academic skills and you'll do great,
Followed her advice for studying for the test and feel good about it. Glad that I didn't cram and studied early like she told our class to do.
I love Bio lectures! The fact that she gives us opportunities and advice about academic skills, networking, and careers is great too.
Dr Kajiura is amazing, she is very motivational! I love her way of teaching, but make sure you attend her lectures. Her midterms are pretty easy, and make sure you know every detail from the lecture notes, for example, names of people she mentions.
She is super nice and has such positive energy! Her lectures are always such a joy to attend! You can clearly see that she cares and loves what she does!
she loves her job and tries really hard. she will also be there for you and help you to succeed outside of the classroom
I mean she is a nice person but as a professor vaguely goes over material and instead spends more time talking about how to study. Going to office hours is pointless because she just tells you to do your own research and she makes you feel dumb for asking questions. Not the most exciting class and I LOVE biology.
Kajiuras lectures kept my interest. Went to her study sessions. She answered all my questions. Great prof
Dr Kajiura explains concepts really well. I like how she made me to be more serious about studying. I'm more focused and can tackle answering questions a lot better. Gives good advice. Also join her IMPACT project.
I'm so grateful that Dr Kajiura provides study tips and practice problems for me to work on that help me to understand the concepts faster. Her suggestions gave me the confidence to succeed in the course. I know that those helped me a lot.
best prof for bio 1m03. provides numerous info/resources to help you succeed. gives away pens if you participate in class. gives weblink project (if you do it, you get a reference letter). fair test questions, you can always make an appointment with her to discuss lecture related contents or participation opportunities
Grading criteria very very unclear. Short answers on tests are really awful. She did not post past tests/resources. She only made the launch pad available. No feedback on tests. Took 2 weeks to mark a test that was online with only 3 short answers. I wish she was more caring...
Marking scheme poor, she makes short answers impossible. very very unfair marking.
I'm doing better than I expected in the 1A03 course. Dr Kajiura gives you her recorded lectures, slides, study questions, example test questions with answers, Launchpad MC practice questions are a big help. So you know how much that you need to study, also go to online office hours for help. Test was challenging, but fair.
I studied the stuff that she provides and actually did the study practice questions i like that she tests for applied knowledge some test questions make you think but that's fair , even doing Doc K's volunteer weblinks project
Dr Kajiura gave me lots of help and opportunities to learn lecture topics plus chats during office hours are fun and inspiring!!!
I like Dr.Kajiura's lectures and the Biology 1A03 course overall. Everyone is nice. It's interesting to learn about how biology relates to real life situations. The homework she gives really helps prepare for tests. If I have probs, I use her online office hours. Tests are tough, but fair, which I expected at the university.
She has a very strong mentor and being independent mentality. I found that to be a little bit off putting personally. I found her questions on the midterms and finals to be fair; just need to be cautious of wording when burning out over MC.
Like her lectures and the course! She created a great classroom community. It was memorable when she mentioned at the beginning of the course, that we're all part of a "TEAM" in which "Together Everyone Achieves More". I didn't feel alone in my learning with her help. I'll ask her for advice even after the course.
Lectures were taught in-depth and she always made sure to clearly go over everything. Dr. Kajiura also always provided additional class aids which were extremely beneficial when trying to understand and review lecture content. Lectures can feel a bit lengthy or boring, but taught well.
Personally, I disliked Dr. Kajiura's teaching style and her test questions. The content is extremely heavy with very limited explanation. I disliked her lectures as I found them boring and also difficult to understand. Her test questions are always very difficult as well.
Bio 1A03 is my fave course this term. I love Dr.Kajiura's lectures, high energy and interactive. She passionate about Bio. I'm in awe how she'll stay for hours after class to answer questions and give advice.
I found lectures to be extremely boring and not helpful. Somehow she talked so much about nothing for 50 minutes. Her test questions were difficult, her MC are long and her SA are specific. I'll admit she seems to enjoy what she does but I could not stand her lectures, especially the applied lectures (which are what the SA questions are based on).
Lectures were useless, did not explain material well, talked about her research projects instead of the course material. Short answer questions were very specific - more specific than what she discussed in lecture and her multiple choice were always worded very long. Wish the course didn't alternate between profs because the other prof was amazing!
Always side tracked her lectures to talk about her research and how we should have research positions by 2nd year which was stressful to hear in all her lectures. Coming from someone who loves bio, her lectures were boring and she overcomplicated the concepts. Her test questions were very specific compared to what she covered in lecture.
While she is a nice person + was often available to answer questions, Dr. Kajiura's lectures weren't helpful & she often read off the slides/research article websites. Her lectures were structured around her research & her test questions were very specific about course content she barely discussed. She also gave opportunities to join her research.
I liked Dr Kajiura's lectures alot, especially the applied lectures. She's explains concepts well, which kept my attention and got me to think more in depth. As a 1st yr student, Bio 1A03 is a good experience.
I found Dr.Kajiura's lectures to be very dry/they felt boring/like they dragged on which made it hard to pay attention for the full 50min. You can tell she is passionate about bio & she was always accessible to talk/answer questions after class & at office hours. I did find her test questions to be on the trickier side as they were very specific.
Imo Dr. Kajiura is a great prof. She's super positive. Bio 1A03 content is heavy, but I can say in hindsight that I'm more confident in problem solving. She helped me find a research position, which was easier than I thought it would be. Do the practice tests and get help when you then you'll do well.
Biology 1A03 was a content heavy course and Dr.Kajiura's lectures covered many topics which sometimes made the lectures feel long. Dr.Kajiura was very approachable and was available to answer questions, her lecture slides contained practice problems/she posted past tests. She also talked about her research a lot/how we can get research positions.
Dr Kajiura is one of the professors that I instantly connected with. 1A03 is heavy in content, since there are many concepts that need to be covered (setting foundation for second year Biology). Don't skip lectures and get help if you don't understand something. Grateful to the 1A03 Team for expanding my curiosity and passion for Biology.
Took BIO1A03 during the Fall term. Dr. Kajiura's mentorship helped me tremendously. Her applied lectures are engaging! I still retain the content and share it with friends and family. She connects 1A03 content with the evolution and ecology 1M03 content, which I found interesting. Already decided on Biology as my academic program.
Great prof! She has a lot of opportunities for students and is always ready to help you, both in class and out of class. her test questions are very specific (and will be like one sentence on one slide that she never mentions again) but most of them are quite fair. talk to her after class !! she'll guide you on how to get to your goals
I think Dr. Kajiura gets a bad rep among first years, but I really liked her in 1A03. She was always promoting extracurriculars for us to do, offered an extra credit project in exchange for a ref letter, and more. She definitely loves her job, and is such a sweetheart. Her test questions could be annoying specific at times, but otherwise she's good
Dr. Kajiura taught me how to learn & apply my knowledge with more confidence. When I struggled grasping concepts or with university life, talking with her always helped. Join IMPACT , hearing from the students and alumni who have been mentored by her and have achieved their goals is so inspiring.
Dr. Kajiura is a caring prof, her lectures were interesting & easy to understand! She also provided opportunities for students by promoting extracurriculars to take part in! She was always available after class & at office hours & for the most part her test questions were quite fair (there was usually one extremely specific question on each test).
I felt some of her test questions were a bit unfair/unnecessarily hard and her lectures were a bit boring compared to da silvas, but for the most part she's a good prof that prepares you well for assessments and future classes
Dr Kajiura motivated me to improve my academic skills. Make sure that you follow her advice and attend lectures. Loved her applied lectures and the other projects.
Prof Kajiura's applied lectures were engaging, and her mentorship helped me improve my academic skills. The content is heavy, but using resources like unstuckstudy AI along with the textbook really paid off.
Her test questions are really specific and difficult. If you want to do well, you have to know everything in and out including the very small and specific details. She also gives a lot of extra work which just makes it harder to balance. I don't think she realizes I have 4 other classes :)
She asks very detailed, niche questions on the short answer portions of her tests. Short answers should usually ask big picture ideas that you can apply to many different topics, but Dr Kajiura will without fail, every test, ask about a tiny detail she mentioned in once a class, as if we were supposed to have memorized every lecture word for word.
She's a yapper, most of her lectures are spent reading the slides and talking about how you should be looking for research opportunities. Her test questions are always wordy and specific but also vague. She will pick one topic from one applied lecture and ask you about one thing mentioned once on one slide. Bonus: she tests on home study work.
Dr. Kajiura is a caring prof. Stayed after lectures to answer my questions about lecture content and academic life. Supplementary examples and practice tests are helpful for studying concepts. Test questions are fair. Greater workload and content are expected at university. Happy that Dr. Kajiura assisted me. Weblinks Project was fun!
She made 1A03 lectures a joy to attend, especially the applied lectures. Her MC test questions are straightforward, SA questions requires you to understand and apply concepts. One of the few profs, who helped me learn the proper way to take notes, study, and apply my knowledge. I joined her IMPACT Team, definitely a positive experience.
I found Kajiura's teaching alright. When it came to the test questions, I found that they covered very minor details that weren't portrayed as very important. This is especially true for the short answer questions. For the multiple choice, all of the questions had a, b, c, a and b, a and c, b and c, or all of the above.
I followed Kajiura' advice this time by studying much earlier and used her lecture notes. I felt good with the MC and SA questions. She was clear about what is testable information. Did her Weblinks project, got a nice reference letter from her for my portfolio.
Very interesting lectures, tests are difficult
Dr. Kajiura was an enthusiastic, caring prof who showed genuine interest in her field of study and research. She was always available to answer questions after classes. However, her short answer questions were EXTREMELY specific, often asking for specific words or terms that was covered in one slide during one lecture. Her MC was also very wordy.
Dr. Kajiura is generous with guidance. Her tests challenged me more than high school. She prepared me for upcoming years for sure.
she's alright, I wouldn't choose to take her again tho
She is an ok lecturer at best, but her tests are horrible. The short answers and mc often focused on very minor details that really aren't relevant to the general understanding of the content. The answers required very specific words or you would get no point.
I learnt so much these past few months. Dr Kajiura's lectures and online office hours were so helpful whenever I was stuck. I did fairly well on the tests, mostly because I focused on deep learning to understand the details, complexities, and connections.
I had both Dr. Da Silva and Dr. Kajiura for 1A03. Kajiura's lectures are good, but less 'applied'. I found her multiple choice more wordy than Dr. Da Silva's too. That aside, she's still amazing. You know she wants you to suceed. She offers so much outside of the classroom. Funny lady! Love her!
Dr. Kajiura is very sweet! However, I really did not enjoy her teaching style, and she brushed over many topics. Her tests are also centered around very specific topics from her slides and the "supplementary info." I also hated her multiple choice, as many times they would be like "which is correct?" "A" "B" "C" "B & C" "A & B" :/
She's a good prof and really cares about students. Test questions were fine, no surprises just follow her advice. I actually like that her multiple choice questions are challenging since it reduces just guessing the answer.
Dr. Kajiura is a very nice and caring professor. She is always open to give help and clarify any concepts when needed. When it comes to tests, many of her questions do not accurately test on relavent topics, and include extraneous information. Overall she is a great person, but a difficult tester.
Ensured students were able to receive good marks whilst also interacting with each other during in-lecture discussions, which helped with understanding certain concepts. Content itself is just Grade 12 Biology excluding the biochemistry. Dr. Kajiura made most of the content relatively digestible. Exams were structured weirdly, though.
She is very approachable and helpful just keep up with reviewing
I liked her material better but found the lectures harder to keep up with compared to Da Silva. She offers an "extra-credit" assignment to get a letter of recommendation (no bearing on course grade) which I didn't do but could be good. She has a website with all her projects and current teaching spaces. Liked her as a person, not so much as a prof
Kajiura is a caring prof. Helps you outside of lectures. Pay attention during her lectures and take good notes. You need to understand the material. If you don't understand, get help from her.
She was very enthusiastic about the course and very helpful. I feel like the short answer questions on the test were just too specific and they were graded harshly.
Dr Kajiura is friendly & easily to approach for help. I liked the applied lectures the most. Already know that I want to be in Bio in L2. Follow her advice to do well in the course.
Dr. Kajiura is a harder prof than Da Silva, she is a great lecturer, but at times brushes over some topics and slows down at others. Her test questions are very specific, which makes it hard to do well sometimes.
Dr Kajiura's lectures are well structured. She is available outside of classes to help. Gave great advice on how to study and solve problems.
her tests can be a bit more on the difficult side, but she also does a good job at explaining the content. if you want to do well in this course, I'd say to focus more on actually comprehending the content rather than relying strictly on memorization. i found her supplemental lectures really interesting -you can tell she cares about what she does.
Dr. Kajiura is very sweet and offers many opportunities outside of class for letters of recommendations or help with material. She is ok in lectures but sometimes doesn't fully prepare you for midterms. Her short answer was difficult to understand and many struggled with her grading, but the multiple choice was easy and often straight forward.
Dr. Kajiura provides an abundance of resources, lecture notes, study questions, practice tests, summaries, even extracurricular opportunities related to research. She makes even the toughest topics easy to understand. If you're willing to put in the effort, she gives you everything you need to do well in her course.
Overall a great prof in terms of teaching material and answering questions. She knows her stuff and the material was pretty interesting. She was really specific about including certain terms in SAs, so if you didn't write a specific word, you wouldn't get marks for it. Or she'd ask about a random term in the slides. but overall good prof
Prof is open to questions during and after lectures, lectures are filled with content that can be easily absorbed by someone with minimal knowledge in chemistry and biology.
amazing lectures
Very caring prof, always tries to get her students involved in her initiatives. She also makes lecture notes of her own lecture and gives us a lot of extra material to help us understand. Test qs are mostly easy, but there are sometimes a few that may trip you up (though if its short answer, the grading scheme is extremely lenient)
Kajiura is a great prof. Follow her advice and use the materials she provides. Her test questions were clear and aligned well with the modules and lectures.
She was not the prof for me. I feel she didn't do a lot of teaching and clarifying in class. Her sections were very content heavy and for her applied lectures we were not even applying the learning. It was just random topics all over the place. Lots of extra unnecessary work needed. Refers to her study sheets instead of teaching in class.
Bio 1A03 is my favorite course. Dr. Kajiura explains the tough concepts and experiments really well in lectures. Attend her office hours for help.
Dr. K is a caring prof, she made Bio 1A03 fun to learn. She helps you see biology as a continuum, from molecules to ecosystems. I already had taken Bio 1M03 before 1A03, so she showed me that understanding DNA replication and mutation rates in 1A03 provides the foundation for explaining natural selection and genetic drift in 1M03.
Dr Kajiura's applied lectures are inspiring - connecting karyotype analysis and McMaster's cancer research. I'm grateful to both Dr Kajiura and Dr DaSilva for mentoring me on my journey towards the field of biology.
She is incredibly caring and cares deeply about each student. The only reason I don't rate her perfectly is because some of her test questions only accept hyper-specific answers based on her slideshows, and she also just reads off of her slideshows during lecture.
Dr Kajiura lectures are fun to attend. She is really encouraging and good at explaining. Not sure why someone said she reads off slides that hasn't been my experience, she barely looks at them except to keep us on our "roadmap of learning" for the summary figures.
Kajiura is a caring prof. Taught me both academic skills and real life skills and I'll use beyond this class.
She reads off the slides word for word so there's no point in taking notes. Her short answer questions on the tests were annoying, it's basically memorizing specific facts and small details from the lectures and web modules.
Kajiura is super approachable. She makes tough concepts easy to grasp. Loved her applied lectures and that she has extracurricular opportunities like Weblinks , IMPACT MMOST initiatives.
Fair marker, fair content. Study and you should do well.
Dr.Kaijura is a professor that truly cared about her students, she gave us many opportunities with the Weblink project and Impact initiative. She really cared about us as students beyond the course!! Her questions were pretty difficult and came from review and applied lectures so I'd suggest you to focus on that when studying !!
i found that she mostly read off the slides and added so much filler. usually boring lectures, borderline skippable (but don't). i liked that she provided opportunities for students, and she's nice
