Choosing to take this professor depends on the other classes that you are taking. He does take up homework, he has quizzes daily and there are pre-lab quizzes. Computational portion of tests are like homework(with some numbers changed) and quizzes are directly from book. You will eventually read every chapter in order to pass.
this guy's tests (the problems) are almost exactly like the homework. read the book, do the homework and you should pass. expect a quiz (he pronounces it as "criz") every day and a pre-lab quiz every week.
He is going to assign a lot of hw and it will be graded. You will read every word of every chapter if you want to pass his class. Quiz every class and also pre-lab quizes. the tests are just like the hw so do it and not only that make sure you completely understand what you are doing. If you do that you should pass and you will work for it.good luck
Assigns lots of hw/graded.quizzes every class and pre-quizzes for labs. You will do lots of work in order to pass this class.A lot of time rqd for this class.Eventaully you will read every word of the chpts if you want to pass the class. If you understand the hw you will be fine on the tests.Understand the MATERIAL!he is willing to help.go to off.hrs
Poor communication skills and ineffective lecturer. His answers sometimes conflict with the solutions manual to the class textbook. Requires hefty workload.
Intro to Principles of Chemistry. He's a bit hard to understand. 10% of your grade is attendance. 10% is recitation, 20% labs, 40% tests, 20% final exam. Gives 10% of your homework grade added to final. Tough class, mandatory you read the book and understand the problems and concept. No cheat sheet allowed.
If you read your textbook, pay attention in class, do your homework and study you will learn a lot and do well. Great professor, he can be tough but is fair.
All he does is read off a powerpoint of each chapter, straight from the book. Then gives you insane chem problems to solve....
Chem 2 is a hard class, but Kang makes it a lot more difficult than necessary. There are daily quizzes which are graded strangely: getting 2 wrong out of 10 is a 6/10, as it's (#right-#wrong). He gives sample tests with no answer key. He scales all of his tests 10 points, which is nice, but why would a prof need to do that if the quality was good?
This professor was horrible. He would barely speak English and would never explain how to work out the lab problems. Never helped, took off points for every little thing. Plus the one time we dont deal with Chemicals he decides to check for shoes and take off ten points. He wil take points off for anything. Overall he is a horrible professor.
Horrible. You don't really need to go to the lecture because he basically reads off his presentation but he makes the attendance mandatory. He always gives a quiz at the end of the class and gives a lecture before the exam.
Horrible professor. A very strict grader but doesn't tell you what he expects. In lab, he takes points off for everything, lost 15 points of final for accidentally breaking a funnel. Will also take off points if data collected is too high or if you don't have on the right shoes. Avoid at all costs!!
Hefty workloads, weekly homework that took 6 hours to finish, weekly quiz not sure which topics. Not very good lecturer, giving a presentation based on book problem diagram. He just couldn't explain the concept clearly. insane chemistry calculation. Avoid taking the class with him.
Horrible! This professor hw is super difficult, lengthy and makes you go outside the box to answer. He gives a quiz every week and his tests are ridiculous. Went to see him for help a couple of times during office hours and learned absolutely zero. I would not recommend him at all, especially if chemistry is your major.
Physical Chemistry and Quantum Chemistry were notoriously difficult, but Dr. Kang would do his best to help his students succeed. He assigned a lot of homework assignments because he believed that practice makes perfect. His tests were hard. However, if you work hard in his class, you will succeed.
This teacher... is not all there. I rated him on his criteria but his mental state is... disturbing. huge homework assignments biggest was 20 questions Many awkward and inappropriate comparisons. He compared Electron affliliation with poor people murdering rich people in order to gain higher status. Take for a grade, will have to read the textbook
Terrible Teacher. He makes attendance mandatory because he knows that, otherwise, anyone would not come to class. A total waste of time going to class. Be ready to study for yourself. Doing homework, studying from the slides and the textbook, and having good luck will lead you to success. DO NOT take this class with him.
If you take Lu Kang, you will have your work cut out for you. His lectures are not clear and I had to spend a large amount of time watching youtube videos and teaching myself the material. He gives pop quizzes quite frequently but often gives them after class time has run out. If you have a class after him, you will often be late.
Dr Kang graduated from MIT. He has two degrees: phys and chem. The guy knows his stuff. He obviously worked hard for his credentials and expects the same from his students. If I were able to focus my full energy into his class, I would know A LOT about basic chem. He tells you what you need to know and from there it's up to you.
Dr. Kang is a very smart individual and i respect the amount of knowledge he has for both chemistry and physics. However some people are just bore with the incapacity to teach others and he is one of those people. Lectures are very boring, reads off a power point and always runs over. Ridiculous amount of online homework, 150+ problems a week.
The subject matter is extremely difficult, and he does not try to dumb it down. However, he is always available for out of class help and tries his best to make the material engaging and sometimes funny. One of the best professors ever studied under.
Avoid Lu Kang if possible. The test are pretty tough, and the lectures are pointless. Be ready to learn the material yourself using Youtube. I got an A in the class, but I had to get tutored before the test. 70% of the people in my class were failing the test. There is a lot of Homework online. We did 1500 HW questions by the end of the semester.
I attended this class every day for the entire first half of the semester and did all of the hours of homework and yet failed the tests. At halfway (withdrawal without penalty) he basically said even if I was trying the fact that I was failing test meant he would fail me. Definitely would recommend doing all of the homework and study super hard.
He is a very smart man however his test are impossible and gives over 100 homework questions a week. He encourages student to come by his office during office hours but that still doesn't help. He also reads from the power point so it's up to you to teach yourself. Do not take.
You have to respect the amount of knowledge Dr. Kang has for the subject. However, like others mentioned, it's basically up to you to learn the material yourself. He gives tons of homework problems, but I feel it is good practice for what is on his exam. I recommend taking him if you are committed to your study.
This is as easy as chemistry II can get. He gives a practice exam before each exam. At least half of the MC questions are exactly the same and all of the free response is the same. He also gives 10 bonus points for exams. So you're guaranteed to get 80-90 if you just do his practice exams.
Very good professor. Willing to always explain things. I honestly believe if you can do stoichiometry you can easily pass. I have a 105 a month from the final.
He starts the lab by going over the last lab report. This helps for the final, but you are shocked by the grade you received on the Lab report. He is a really tough grader, and he goes through the assignment with a fine tooth comb. He is a nice person, but he is not a good teacher. I would take a Lab with him but NEVER a class!
Hard Course. Gives you 20% for HW, but there is about 40 questions per week. 5% for attendance. 5 tests (half multi-choice, half free response w partial credit) and a hard final that can replace 1 test. Power points posted to d2l are decent. Gives study guides that have pretty similar content to tests. Curves at EoC. Not great lectures & pop quizes
Dude is weird. His English is limited and in his attempts to rephrase and clarify material he simply ends up repeating himself over and over. He is clearly intelligent and knowledgeable, but the language barrier coupled with his eagerness to punish minor mistakes creates a poor learning environment. Probably better suited to more intimate classes.
When I thought my Calculus I teacher was bad, this teacher was even worse. He reads off powerpoints exactly, and he can't explain concepts very well with a thick accent. I sprained my knee, and my orthopedist appointment was last minute during one of my exams. He won't make it up. I sent an email to him on Feb 28th; he ended up replying on Mar 6th.
lectures are helpful but can be hard to follow with his accent, LOTS of homework and study time for tests, dont take this class if you're not going to dedicate time, attendance is a small percentage and will give pop quizes from time to time, not helpful in teaching the material, gives practice tests similar to real tests but tests are hard
Terrible teacher! STAY AWAY! Gives 70-100 hmwk problems a week. Relates everything to dating (idk why). His tests are ridiculous especially the short answer questions. Gives practice tests to study with but doesn't give answers for them. I went to his office hours a couple of times and he makes you feel stupid. Told me "You are lost in the class."
Terrible professor. He clearly understands the material but goes out of his way to make the class super difficult. He will penalize you for little things and it's very difficult to tell if you are ready for the tests because his "practice tests" have no answers. He also isn't very accepting/willing to work with students who use disability services.
Garbage lab. The final was not made by him, so no review at all. One of the lab assistants was atrocious and smug, often making fun of student's questions. Insanely obnoxious. At one point my lab partner dropped a glass beaker. Instead of going "Are you okay?" LU Kang immediately said "give me your lab manual" so he could take off points.
If you don't spend about 10 hours a week reading the textbook and doing homework, good luck passing. He was clearly a smart man who knew his stuff but his accent made it hard to follow lectures. We had pop quizzes constantly and homework (MasteringChemistry) was worth about 20% of our grade. I barely spent any time studying and regret it.
Not really an enjoyable lab at all, no fault to him. The 1211L is just really mundane.. He himself, as a professor, is hard to understand. The final is made by the ACS, so just study your lecture material and you should pass. You will also buy a 20 lab manual you have to copy word-for-word for each class, which is outrageously time consuming.
He rushes through his lectures and if you try to ask a questions he says you should have read your book and doesn't actually help you. Chem 2 is already hard enough as it is and he has free response on his tests. Honestly the worst professor I have ever taken at Kennesaw.
It's honestly discouraging that there are professors like this at Kennesaw State. I feel like my time and money is being wasted with a professor like this. He does not care to help and does not follow his syllabus whatsoever. He gave us five day notice to prepare for an exam (when everyone is failing already) and the department chair ignores us.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Even if he is the only class left, DO NOT TAKE IT. I would wait until the next semester to get ANY other professor besides him.
I cannot stress this enough... do not take this professor. He gives an absurd amount of homework (the first set was almost 200 questions). The hw is 20% of the grade. There is no physical textbook bc he expects students to come to him during office hours to learn the material. This is a class that seemingly expects you to fail...
Thick accent but understandable. Hard tests but gives very similar practice tests. Easily accessible outside of class. Content is hard which is probably why most people do like him. He gives bonus credit for doing practice tests. His online homework is not good but helps boost your grade if you do it. Would look for another chem professor first.
This professor is very difficult. Every day he comes in and begins lecture immediately and goes about five minutes over every day. Every single friday we had a quiz and he would hand out the quiz after the lecture, which was five minutes past the time that the class is supposed to be concluded. His tests are very hard as well. Would not take.
Absolutely Terrible Teacher. Through all the chapters covered, I ended up doing 1,107 MasteringChemistry. While he doesn't do quizzes anymore, his "in-class practices" take its place. He just reads word for word off a slide and while he is knowledgeable himself, he should not be in a classroom teaching. Made everything difficult and was not clear.
Awful.
Ratings speak for themselves. Stay away. DO NOT TAKE this professor. Insane amount of homework and not the best at delivering the information.
Even if you listen and class, take notes, and work on review tests before an exam, there is a slim chance you will pass. Many of the questions are barely related to the review, much less the lecture. You have to teach yourself most topics because he fails to cover them in class, and even then, the tests, once again, are vaguely related to this.
How am I doing in this class? I would know. He hands stuff back without a clear grade on it and does not put grades online. He never tells us what we are supposed to be doing. It is like a mystery just trying to figure out what he wants from us. There is so much work to do every week that I am literally crying right now. No one knows what to do.
Lu Kang is a fine teacher. Chem1212 is a hard course, but he explains in detail his slides and will do problems step by step. His accent is thick which makes it hard to understand sometimes, but if you ask he'll explain something again. The homework was a lot, but you need a lot of homework to understand the material. Course is hard, he is not.
Trust me when I say that if you have to take chem lab, avoid this professor AT ALL COSTS, it is not just the fact that he grades hard, it's just that he does not ever put in grades, and he is never clear with what he wants completed for any assignment, and you will be left clueless for the final
I am very bad at chem but this teacher did not help at all, I got an A in my lab and learned most of my chem from there but his class is behind the lab which resulted in confusion for myself in both classes. Test are 50% of grade but there is 5 and one gets replaced by the ACS. Thick accent that is tough to understand . 10/10 would never recomend
There may be easier choices, but I enjoyed Professor Kang. Before each exam, he posts a practice test online. DO IT. About half the questions on the exams are straight from the practice test. He assigns a lot of homework, but you need it to become proficient in this class. Remember, No matter who you take for chemistry, it's NOT going to be easy.
Professor Kang cannot teach a class well. I only did well because I had taken AP Chem in the past and knew most of the material beforehand. If had not taken that I would have failed his course. He gives around 100 questions per week and his tests are difficult. Do not take this course!
Professor Kang does his best given that Chem 2 just has a lot of content. He is available almost every day for his office hours and will go through a problem is you have any questions. There is a ton of homework but if you can make an A on the homework you can make an A on the tests. Tests are graded out of 110, same as class. Hard Class ,Good Prof
English isn't great. Accent does not get in the way but seems like he doesn't always know what he is saying. He does not explain things well so most of the class is self-taught. Lots of homework.
I understood chemistry fine until I took this class. Made things way more confusing than they should be. When doing test and homework assignments, you have to do problems "his way" or you get no credit... even if you have the correct answer. His English is not that great and would not answer student's questions when they are asked. DO NOT RECOMMEND
Ill summarize everything. He mumbles a lot so its very difficult to tell what he is saying. Students basically have to teach themselves with the PowerPoints. Hes had to put a lot of things online and hes not tech savvy so theres been a lot of issues. He blames the students when we all fail tests. He congratulated us for a 65 average on a test.
Over the top crazy amounts of homework. There's four exams and a cumulative final exam. He put the due dates for several of the homework on the day of the exams and the final. The homeworks are not short either, on average there's about 60-70 questions, assigned about every 5 days or so. You have to watch a lot of YouTube videos to learn anything.
Probably just the worst professor I've had in terms of clarity and teaching style ever. When you ask him questions, he very rarely provides a sufficient answer. Spends all class lecturing. Often forgets to announce the online homework, so you will probably end up with several 0s for HW. Last Test of the semester was 2 days before the final. Awful.
He did not upload any grades for the longest time. I stayed in the group chat with my friends after I dropped (I was overwhelmed with work) and they told me that he did not post any grades until after the final which everyone failed! He was also terrible with technology which created a lot of problems. Do not take this professor if you can help it.
I had him fall 2020 when we needed online access to assignments and our tests and quizzes were online too. It was awful. He does not understand technology so there were a lot of problems. I tried everything I could to do well in the class but nothing worked. We had to memorize an impossible amount for tests. I would have gotten a C if I stayed.
His grading criteria is unclear. He gave us no feedback on our reports and he NEVER posted grades. Everyone who finished his class took the final without actually knowing how the were doing in the class. I don't know of anyone who didn't fail. He doesn't curve anything.
Students had to teach themselves. He knows nothing about technology. I don't know how he still has a 2.
Gives no feedback on lab reports. Takes a long time to grade work.
Tough teacher. Grading criteria is confusing. Homework is difficult. Doesn't help the students.
He is the roughest teacher I've ever had. I had to withdraw in order to avoid getting kicked out of the Honors program. Do not take his class if you can help it.
Never. Gave us. Feedback. Ever. Also never posted grades until after final. Don't know how he has a two.
He doesn't tell you what he expects out of you. You have to figure out what he wants from you then figure out what your grade is because he NEVER POSTS GRADES! He isn't very helpful and he is even condesending at times.
To say "get ready to read" is an understatement. Really you have to memorize the whole textbook because there will be things in the textbook that never get talked about in class that are only in the textbook. Set me back a year. Don't take his class.
Has shown he does not care for our concerns regarding grades and will fail anyone without second thought. Completely impossible to understand him too due to his mumbling and thick accent.
Lectures before each lab, but nobody can understand him due to his low voice with all the machines running in the lab. Also does not share concerns with students actually wanting to succeed.
Every monday and friday there are 40 questions of homework due. There are quizzes everyday after class. Class ends 10 minutes late everyday. Tests are not based on homework, but on extra practice worksheets. Dont take his class your gpa isnt worth it.
Professor Kang is probably the worst thing you can do to yourself. He teaches harder methods instead of easier ones and throws a lot of info at you with the expectation you should know it all. He also tries to be funny but hes really just corny. Does not curve tests at all!! Just be weary of his class and do all quizzes and hw.
I'm a senior and this was the worst professor I had during my path at KSU. He took the place of my professor who got sick, I didn't choose to take a class with him, I had to. All the grades were so messed up that I couldn't understand how I was going in his class. Also, I get on the defensive to ask him something in class regards the material.
I was worried bc Dr. Kang's RMP is so low. However, he turned out to be better than my previous professor's (who he replaced). He couldn't be understood in his lectures, however, his grading scale was better. To succeed, you must be capable to learn the content on your own. His tests were not hard, and he gives an extra 10 point curve on each exam.
Gives a little bonus in the grade so you can miss a few assignments and still do really well. Gives you the notes after the class. You do have to take notes during class for a grade and then get it back next class.
Very laid back professor, but hardly teaches anything of use. I found myself learning the material on my own time instead of learning it during lecture because all he does is read straight from the PowerPoint. Also it was hard to understand him sometimes cuz of his accent and lack of microphone. He loves giving wacky similes to relate to chemistry.
Terrible professor! His lectures were awful and horrendous. He has a strong accent so I had a hard time understanding him. Chemistry is already hard itself so trying to understand it through his accent is challenging. He doesnt care if you fail. I asked for help because I was failing and he wouldnt so I withdrew. Not worth the stress at all
Prof. Kang is a fine teacher and it is clear he wants his students to succeed. However, his class is a nightmare. If you take any other class with his (including lab) you will drown in assignments. If you take him, clear your schedule of anything that isn't an easy A and be prepared to spend LONG hours on homework. His class is a full-time job
He does not post most grades online. He also takes longer to grade tests than many professors. The lectures are almost useless. I only attended to complete the mandatory in-class assignments. Just read the textbook or do HW while you are in lectures. Reading the text is really the only way to do well in this class. The tests are easy though.
He isn't as bad as the reviews say. He gives a lot of homework so be prepared to work 2-6 hours a week on homework. He does have an accent so semi-hard to understand. He explains topics in depth and spends a lot of time on the harder topics, so make sure to read the text book in addition to lectures, because he does skip some topics due to this.
Do not take! Just take a chem professor on the kennesaw campus. Gives like 3 quizezz a week with 2-6 homework assignments a week. Gives study guides for test and they are completly different. makes you feel dumb for asking questions in class. Hard to understand uses a microphone with a mask on. I repeat do not take.
This professor was awful. He gives out 3 homework assignments every 2 days. He has an automatic curve on all of the tests, but the class average was still a 63 on the unit 2 test. He is extremely hard to understand. The lectures are also super boring, and he has the worst analogies I have ever heard in my life.
I only went to class in order to do the participation assignment, because he is a terrible professor. Prepare to spend many hours teaching yourself the material. Also assigns an insane amount of work.
While Lu Kang is a professor that cares deeply for the success for his students, He does a terrible job in explaining an already difficult subject. He teaches using a powerpoint and explains the slides but rushes through the slides and goes over his allotted time, so be prepared to leave some time for your next class.
Pretty much a teach yourself kind of class or attend all the SI sessions, because you will hardly learn anything from his lectures. He also has a habit of skipping over important material and then assigning loads of homework for it. No cheat sheets for test as well, gotta memorize everything. Inappropriate jokes as well. Avoid at all costs.
Dr. Kang is not great at teaching, but just watch some youtube videos, and you'll be fine. Every grading category has a 10% curve. There are online quizzes four times a week, and you get five tries per quiz. His study guides are similar to the tests. My biggest complaint is he always ends class five minutes late.
Exams are 50% of ur grade, final exam is another 20%. Final replaced my lowest exam. My exam scores went 72, 37.5 (replaced), 66, 71, 75. On the final I got a 70 but I think he curved it for extra points. You get an extra 10% grade on each category. Homework and in class practice worksheets are low percentage of grade but u need to do them.
Amazing professor who gives curves on all tests and has the best study guides. The study guide is the same as the test just with different wording. Gives a lot of homework but is needed to learn all of chemistry. I had him for the lab and always got out around an hour or more early.
Do not take his class if you're not good at chemistry, he expects you to know it already. Some students do good in his class, but for me and many others that struggle at chem, he doesn't help. I don't understand anything he is saying and when working through the example he just copies what is on his paper on the board without explaining anything.
In class, he gives papers for a grade (functions as attendance since he gives you the answers). you will have a lot of online homework coupled with a quiz after every class. If you miss class he will report it to advisement. If you do not study you will fail. Compared to other chem classes it is unnecessarily hard. Save yourself the time and money.
I had him for lab and the first hour and 30 minutes is full of chem lecture and him explaining stuff for my actual lecture class. He is very nice though. He is a somewhat of a hard grader on the lab reports and your lab notebook.
Dr. Kang is a nice guy, BUT I took him for lab and he wasted the majority of our time teaching like he was in a lecture. He does not really explain the lab but presents textbook material. He is a very soft speaker who wears a mask and has an accent, so he is very hard to understand verbally. He grades harshly. Not a fan favorite 4/10.
He was disrespectful if you needed help in the class. He overloaded us with homework. I took his lab and his lecture and withdrew from both.
He only read off of his slides and wouldn't explain when working out problems. EXTREMELY DISRESPECTFUL. I have accommodations and he couldn't fathom why it took me longer to complete tests. Would laugh at students when they would say that they were having a hard time. There was a language and cultural barrier that made it difficult to communicate.
Spends majority of the time teaching the lecture in lab. Grades you harshly on everything even your lab notebook. I am currently retaking this lab. I would never recommend this guy to anyone. Don't waste your time choosing him.
Do not take his class at all costs. The teaching is subpar, as he just reads off the PowerPoint slides without actually diving into why things work the way they do. Gives a lot of homework and tracks your attendance. Has the tendency to ramble a bit and runs out of time to teach frequently (because he doesn't manage his time). Avoid this class.
Hard to understand, wastes time explaining irrelevant things.
Where do I even start...I'm not going to state my extreme opinions yet bc this review is for the lab only. The lab was pretty straightforward, but this professor is a tough grader. He takes points off for decimals; if your results are "wrong" he will take points off of every question. Do not get your hopes up,he will crash them and laugh at you(:
He reads off slides in lecture and gives you worksheets to grade attendance. You need to "copy his work word by word" (he'll remind you every class!), but he waits last minute to speed run the worksheet. Every other day you get a twenty question homework assignment and a quiz, and exams are 60% of your grade. Don't do this to yourself.
-Complicated lectures -Not an interactive class; do most work outside of class -Teach yourself the material -Can't ask questions -Tests don't match what you learn in lecture -Heavy for the amount of time given
OBSCENE amount of hw and will ignore you in lecture most times it seems if you try to ask questions. Attendance is a paper you have to copy his work word for word or he will actually take points off attendance. Always went over classtime. Extremely infuriating teacher and makes the tests way harder than the ACS final will be (blessing and a curse)
Very harsh grader. Pre-lab quizzes are almost always on the concepts of the lab which gets really frustrating when you have not been taught the material for the lab at all. He will make you feel like an inconvenience if you try to interact with him and is really strict about the notebook. Avoid avoid avoid
He assigns a lot of homework and tests, which everyone in the GroupMe complained about all semester, but when we took the final, it was the best we did on a test all year. Yes, he assigns a lot but it's necessary to learn material. He also gives practice exams that are almost word for word the actual tests.
Yes, there is a lot of homework that you have to do but honestly, it made chem lecture and the labs easier. He is very straightforward about how he grades and it is easy to get As on his labs as long as you do your work. You can leave as soon as you get your data. He is willing to help as long as you show effort but is SUPER hard to understand.
Dr. Kang wants students to realize how rigorous an engineering degree will be. He's available during office hours, will help you with the quizzes before they're due, and gives practice exams that are similar to our actual exams. Yes, there is a lot of homework. Yes, you have to come to class and do the worksheets. But if you do, you can get an A.
I was initially worried about Dr. Lu Kang when I first read the reviews here, but after the fall semester, I can confidently say that more than half of them are nonsense written by students who do not put forth effort. Dr. Lu Kang is a great instructor who truly cares about his students.
Lu Kang is the GOAT! Dr. Kang teaches what it means to be in college: hard work; one way or the other, students will have a teacher like him, so I do not regret taking him. Caring teacher, but most students complain due to low class dedication. Some students talked throughout most lectures and guess how they did.
Dont take this guy if you value your sanity
Good professor for course load given, the tests he gives are harder than the final. He gives lots of practice before exams, so use them, and attend the SI sessions. You'll basically be teaching yourself for the homework, he assigns three hw assignments a week, and at the end of class, he has you do practice problems for a free 100%.
His class is hard if you don't pay attention in class. His Homeworks and quizzes are easy, but you have to do those so you can do good on his exams. Also, study the slides provided so you can get a better understanding of what he is teaching. The exams make up majority of your grade so take them seriously.
He gave three hw assignments each week and 6 quizzes. He would give at least three worksheets every class to explain a topic and evaluate attendance. However, he does not know how to explain a topic effectively. Also, he does not give enough time to complete exams, believing they are "too easy" if we do our hw with our own effort. Do not take him
Good luck cause its not going to be easy
If you cherish, you're happiness escape with registration... He starts a week behind and warmups are only considered for attendance. I find his assignments to be busy work and the amount of work he assigns is not worth the value of knowledge you actually receive from the lectures.
He is the WORST; do not take him. If you are not ready to teach yourself everything run! You will always be behind other chem classes and he will cram last-minute topics you need for the test after the lecture ends. During class, he will embarrass you if you ask questions.... Anyway, don't take kang if u have a brain.
Absolutely avoid him at all cost. Almost failed
He grades extremely harshly and is super picky about your prelab notebook check and your answers on lab reports. He talks for at least an hour before every lab, and his accent is not the most understandable at times.
Avoid this professor at all costs. Insane amounts of homework. Huge time commitment .This is not his fault but his accent is extremely hard to understand making you have to teach yourself the class on top of homework.
Don't get me wrong, Dr. Kang is a great man. He is incredibly smart and was very kind to me—but he is not a teacher. He has a hard time explaining Chemistry in a way that others can grasp as there is a language barrier; it is not his fault. I only give him a low rating because of his teaching, not based on him as a person.
By far the worst professor at ksu
This professor shows a thorough understanding of chemistry overall, but I don't think he's able to teach it properly. He assigns a lot of homework, which takes you a minimum of 1 hour (per hw). You can barely understand the lectures, and he rushes through slides. The tests have a lot of questions and limited time. Good thing, exams have 110 points.
OHHHH BOY... IF you are a freshman sophomore or anything don't take this MANS class. Ik that the HW has unlimited tries, but the average amount of HOMEWORK QUESTIONS IS AROUND 30-40. MONDAY,WEDNESDAY,FRIDAY EVERYTIME + 10 Question Quizzes. MAN CAN"T TEACH, HE IS ALWAYS HERE (there is no break) , He wants you to copy him down exactly..I Passed ->A-
Avoid professor at all costs if you can. His accent makes it him extremely hard to understand what he's saying. Tons of homework.
I pulled through and got an A but his lectures are incoherent but still mandatory. The homework is wild with a quiz and homework assignment due after every class period. Save yourself...
He has an heavy accent but he does care about his students, if this is your first lab do not take him but if you are used to lab settings in college he wont be that hard, make sure u dont miss any deadlines and come to class prepared and be on his good side.
Professor Lu Kang has a rigorous teaching style, but if you put in the work, you'll learn a lot. The homework and quizzes are challenging, but the practice exams are helpful. I also found unstuckstudy useful for study prep alongside the course materials.
If you aren't ready to teach yourself and don't have much motivation don't take this prof. He will definitely make you work for the grade. Overall he isn't that bad as long as you pay attention and put in the work.
Lu kang maybe one of the rudest, low effort professors I've had in my short college career. He lectures with a pompous, arrogant attitude and doesn't take feedback very well. He's a harsh grader who will not give any kind of freebies or other help. He will do everything he can to prevent an A on tests, and his accent is quite quite thick.
Professor Kang is undoubtedly one of the worst teachers I've ever had—not just at KSU, but in my entire life. What's most frustrating isn't the overwhelming workload or his unintelligible accent; it's his blatant disregard for his pupils. Students seem to be a nuisance to him, and he is clearly more interested in his research than teaching.
He actually did it, he gave spring break homework. I was like "wouldn't that be funny if he gave spring break homework" and he actually did, and I'm not laughing.
Lu Kang is by far the worst professor I've had in my entire academic career. He seldom ever explains clearly nor does he elaborate when called upon rather, he spends a large part of his time belittling the person asking rather than answering. Coming from an engineering major that does a lot of this for fun, DO NOT TAKE LU KANG. Had to teach myself.
Please check your professors ratings before you register. If you are somehow possesed to take this class prepare to teach yourself . He goes extremely fast when explaining work and does not fully explain chemistry. I can tell he fully understands it but mostly cherishes his understanding over teaching and respecting his students. Dont take ts😭🙏🏾
Professor's lectures are hard to follow due to poor English and made-up words. He rushes through material, often keeps us late, and answers questions condescendingly. He compares us to students from top schools and says we're not smart enough for engineering, which is discouraging and unprofessional. Lots of hw and is petty with attendance grades
Please don't take this class. Starve him of students so he'll have to realize what a sorry professor he is. Other people are saying they respect him despite his bad teaching, but I don't even respect him. What's there to respect? His borderline psychotic analogies? Giving homework on test days and spring break? He should do us a favor and quit!
Lu Kang is an average-at-best researcher with unremarkable, self-indulgent work that contributes little of value to society. He seems to take out his frustration and career disappointments on students, making his classes hostile, draining, and completely demoralizing. Kang would also greatly benefit from taking ENGL 1101.
Terrorist and Double Agent
Please listen to me when I tell you Lu Kang is honestly one of the worst professors here at ksu. His teaching style is bad and I had to teach myself everything, he talks trash to everyone and talks about how if you don't pass his class you should drop the engineering major and move to business. Literally the worst teacher I've ever had in my life.
Other chemistry professors will shudder when you mention that you had Lu Kang. Tells you all you need to know, really.
This was the hardest class I have ever taken and the first class I have ever gotten below a C in. So much work always and not enough time to do it. He said chemistry and biology isn't "real stem" and said only engineering is respectable. Told us if we couldn't handle the class, to just drop out, called people stupid for asking questions, the works.
He's a chill guy overall. However he gets caught up on one problem for the whole lecture and then the class ends up being weeks behind the other classes for the tests, so you have to teach yourself the material.
Has a harsh accent so you barely understand him, speaks broken english and gives out mountains of work without properly teaching you how to do it.
He assigns material that we never covered and can't do without doing the lab. He expects us to do it before we even do the lab in class.
DON'T take this professor EVER. I got above 95 in every test, but it is really a lot of work. Tons of homework, never covering enough content needed for homework, and the exam. Don't even tell you for sure what you need to know for the test (didn't even give out how many element names you have to memorize). You literally have to prepare everything!
If you like teaching yourself chem then by all means take this guys class. If you want a teacher that'll actually teach you the course at hand don't take this guy.
There is no hopes of passing unless you like chemistry or you a genius.
I'm only giving him a two because sometimes he says something out of pocket and it's funny. However, he cannot teach. I got an A by reading the textbook and power points, and not cheating on the quizzes/textbook homework.
The teaching style is confusing, and I often had to teach myself to understand the material. You can still earn a good grade, but the class isn't the best fit for students who need clearer guidance. If he's the last option, it's okay, but other professors may be easier to follow.
This man will find joy in seeing his class fail. His lack of common sense paired with an incredibly thick accent led to some awkward moments with very strange often times disrespectful metaphors. This man is everything that is wrong with the education system. His lack of competence will make you to question how he became a profesor.AVOID AT ALL COST!!
You would benefit more from skipping class and teaching yourself. Barely any extra credit. Thick accent. Class average in this class is usually lower than other chem classes. His excuse is that the students dont study enough or that chem is just a tough class. If this is your only option, prepare to suffer: he is rated a 1.7 for many other reasons.
Please do not take him. You just teach yourself the material. He splits his test into two parts, not very fun.
Everyday, I feel like switching to business. He is the reason I do not wish to continue forward with life. Bad accent. Usually, this isn't a problem, but it is with him. Also not PG13.
Kang is truly the worst professor I've ever had. He teaches as if the students already hold a PhD in chem, he doesn't go over all of the material that will be on the tests, and he spends only ~2 days "teaching" the more difficult material before the tests. As a stem major who enjoys learning, this class broke me. Do not take this class.
if you're okay teaching yourself, by all means, take his class. he skips steps, doesn't explain answers well, and offers little help. you'll need to study the material before class to understand. he also makes discouraging comments about students' abilities, saying if you can't pass his tests, to switch to business rather than engineering.
I have my final tommorow and am just realizing that we didn't learn half of what the final is supposed to have. he is very difficult. he maes it impossible to do good. you have to self learn. he says if you are not good at chem then you might as well drop out of engineering.
I wouldn't recommend this class unless you're prepared to dedicate a lot of time to chemistry. There are six exams held every other week, each having difficult FRQs worth 40–50 points, and time-intensive questions in a 50-minute period. Staying consistent on tests, homework, and quizzes is essential, especially doing well on the first four exams.
Talks badly about his own students to others. He complained throughout the year that "not enough" students dropped out. Speaks so softly in lectures that no one can hear him. Only teaches the simple stuff for days and then crams actual chemistry the day before a test. Gives really bad feedback and is very rude while giving them too.
