Pretty good prof, but HARD ASSIGNMENTS! Overall though I'd take the class with him again.

Luc is a good guy, But his Tests and assignements are RETARDED!! If you do wel lwith him you are a genious!
Good notes, pretty good exams, but crazy assignments.
best prof on campus. makes you earn your mark.
luc is the funniest prof ever.class is mandartory cos u would pretty much fail if you dont attend.he makes easy stuff look complicated.he isnt the best of profs but he does care about your grades,he could be a lil unhelpful as well.assignments are out of this world.test and exam ok..if u like clowns then try luc,but if u wanna pass then stay away.
Luc isn't as bad as people make him sound. The course material is VERY difficult, and if you don't put a good bit of time into understanding the concepts, you will fail. Teaching seems to be at the bottom of Luc's list of priorities, and if you go to him for help, there's a good chance he won't even recognize the assignment you're trying to do.
very very helpful !!! really nice guy and will do anything for his students to help them understand, gives good notes and examples
Super friendly and always has time for his students. CAPA assignments get me no where, but that's not his fault. The university is just too lazy & cheap to hire people to mark REAL assignments.Tests aren't bad if you prep for them and really study. I'd definately recommend him as a prof. Besides he's a lot funnier and hotter than the other prof!!
very good professor, just his exams are chalenging ... u must solve as much example as u can otherwise u will be suprise in the exam . he does evrything in his power to help u if u have problem. he is funny . his classes arenot boring . he puts evrything online. so if u miss anyclass u dont need to borrow it from friends u can downlaod them online
Gorgeous man =P Photos don't do him justice. A really nice prof and he gives good examples in class. Good sense of humour. I never liked physics before I had him.
Great prof. He's willing to help you until you understand. I'd reccommend him to anyone taking first year physics.
He is a good prof ... as good as your gonna get in university
horrible prof.. the only thing i learned from this man was how to draw a good picture. makes easy stuff look complicated.. if you've never done physics before, your only hope is daryll budgell reviews! his notes and workings are all online, so pointless to go to class
He's available a lot of the time outside of class, but I didn't buy an expensive textbook only to have someone do the examples already in there in front of the class. I got absolutely nothing out of going to class, as I already know how to read a book. 1st-years are pretty annoying, but the subprof who came in had way better control over the class.
He is approachable, very helpful outside of class and is absolutely hilarious. Would definitely recommend him. Overall, a great prof.
Luc has a great personality. He wants you too succeed in his class. The CAPA assignments are harder than the examples covered in class. The tests are generally easy if you review the material taught in class. If you've taken Physics before its an easy course. If you've never taken physics before I'd advise you to work hard and you'll be fine.
beautiful man lol. Hard to concentrate during class!! Makes you want to impress him by learning!
Never really got anything out of the course... Also found the course extremely challenging for just a first year course. I never took Physics in high school, but I studied lots and it seemed there would be weird twists to questions in the mid-terms that I would never figure out.
I hated this course so much. I attended Rick's classes too...and I thought that Luc was just as good as Rick. Content is hard but if you have to do it, I would suggest doing it with Luc.
He was a pretty good physics teacher. He made some good jokes, and some bad jokes. It was interesting to listen to the silence after some jokes. When the physics gets too boring for you, you can just stare at him. He's pretty.
Pretty good prof. Sometimes tells too many jokes that aren't funny, but teaches the material pretty good. Explains pretty good too.
He's excellent. Explains things very well, really helped because I never took physics in highschool.
BEST PROFF I HAD FIRST SEMESTER !!!! Extreamly helpful out side class Luc is the man !
Great teacher, good personality, funny, knows the material inside-out, can answer questions on the spot even if they pertain to higher level physics.
Decent prof, but I needed to learn the entire course on my own. I had to read every chapter we covered in the text book and do every odd example at the end of the book as well as re-doing my CAPA assignments multiple times in order to do well. Too much material to cover in class anyway.
still needed to go over all material in depth myself which is expected, but did explain things well and made going to class interesting as well as went out of his own way to help outside of class.
He was a good professor but not very approachable. He made me feel like an idiot whenever I asked him a question. I found him pretty arrogant.
Although he's pretty funny, I didn't learn a thing from him. I wouldn't suggest this teacher.
So, I pretty much learned this course through a combination of self teaching, group work, and the capa's. Didn't find the prof to be much help, and I really didn't learn much from the classes. If you are strong in Physics and don't require much explanation, then this is the prof for you. If you suck at physics, might want to look into another prof!
good prof. notes are well organized, and he does many examples in class. lectures can sometimes be a little uninteresting, and the lack of sufficient lighting creates a sleepy mood.
Good prof.
If you like bad jokes & have a firm understanding of physics, he's your guy. I learned nothing from going to class & earned a 70% through the help center & an excellent lab staff! Although his power points are organized, his notes in class are a MESS. If you go to him for help he does one example quickly w/out explanation and sends you on your way.
Only been in his class 3 weeks and within 5 mins of asking for help he managed to insult me and my path of study/career choice.
Obviously knows what he is talking about and can be funny, but he is intimidating and not very approachable.
He is very easy to listen to, his power points are good as well. His physics drawings are the best I've ever seen. He is also pretty.
He is very helpful and very approachable! He will take the time to explain things to you. He is easy to listen to, and does some great demonstrations in class. :)
He is my favorite prof ever. I really enjoyed physics with him.
Loves to answer questions and a pretty funny dude. Easily one of my favorite Profs'.
Extremely helpful and great prof! I hate physics and find it difficult, always will, but this guy helps alot and legitimately cares about his students doing well. Good notes and good explanations of examples.
Don't understand why everyone says avoid him. Yes, he is a bit intimidating to people at first but he's friendly, funny and a good prof. Just as good as Gouldring. This course is hard no doubt but Luc tries his best to make things crystal clear.
One of the best profs I've had so far. He has lots of stories to help understanding and does lots of demonstrations in class. Just make sure not to fall asleep because he does look around, and he does single out sleepers. Overall though much better then goulding in my opinion. If possible, I recommend taking his class
Great guy make physics a laugh, good class notes. worth you while to pick him as your prof. Thanks for the great semester!
Great prof! Loves physics and you tell from his lectures. He's wry understandable and if you put an honest effort into te course you'll do fine
Great prof, the course is a bit dull, but I also have no interest in it, but if you go to him with questions he is very helpful, especially when he shows up in those dreadful labs, he really wants you to understand it, and will do what he can to help you get a better mark, after all, 1020 is only an introductory course
I fail to understand why everyone says to avoid him, he was one of the best profs I had all semester! He's extremely organized and a good explainer, not to mention he's funny as hell. I would reccommend him to anyone! Physics is a hard subject but he does everything in his power to make it easier, as long you put an effort into it
Not a fan. Class examples are done too quickly, so its blind copying with little explanation as to what is actually going on. Funny sometimes but kind of intimidating to ask questions (doesnt like "stupid questions") More interested in bettering your mark so he can beat Goulding's class (he jokes but Im pretty sure its true) Hes ok but not my pick
I've never done physics before and am definitely not a natural, but he was excellent! He was very helpful and seemed to really want people to do well -at least those people who were trying! I would recommend this course and this prof to anyone!
Very intimidating on the first day. Told us that 80% of us would fail his first midterm and that many of us would drop the class. This first impression is a little intimidating but if you try hard in his class, and go to the John O'Reilly tutorials you can an get an A!Note that with any intro physics course at MUN the hard part are the assingments
He is really a great prof. He knows his stuff very well and does his best to make physics easier. He was always willing to answer my questions which he did perfectully. I also want to mention that he is so funny man. I would strongly recommend him.
Overall pretty funny guy. Was really helpful when it came to exam time but you need to go to him on your time do not expect him to come to you. Best part is he has a lot of pride so tends to be in a feud with Golding's class. He truly is the Boss man of physics 1020.
Best prof I've ever had. Really amazing
Looks for marks to give you on tests which is great. Unapproachable and arrogant but is more amusing since he jokes and is hot. Covers his examples with his hand while writing them and coughs into the mic which is annoying. Not much learned from this course.
Arrogant and annoying. Learned everything I know about physics in high school. Didn't learn anything new.
Not a big fan of Beaulieu. Tests are very hard. Seems to have some kind of hatred for medical school, and wants to discourage you seeing how he claims to make questions hard to distiguish "who gets into Med School and who doesn't". If you can get a different prof I suggest you do so. By the way, this review is coming from a hard-working student.
The best prof I've ever had. Nice, funny, and clear. Highly recommended
Overall he's a pretty good prof. He's hilarious, so at least you won't be bored during his lectures.
I agree the comment that he does care about well his class does. However, I also find myself agreeing with comments such as him being unapproachable, that things were "skimmed" over in lectures and that I learned very little from them, and that the mid-terms were very hard. Though you are writing the same mid-terms as Gouldings class anyway.
This was a mandatory course for me. I found my other courses difficult as well as this one. However, all of my other profs were willing to help and Dr. beaulieu wasn't helpful at all. He was humorous in his lectures however I found him to be very arrogant. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone.
He is a good prof to be fair. He knows the stuff he's teaching.. Although the midterms were hard, I would still take another course with him.. as he really made me love physics ,I would recommend him to someone who is interested in physics :)
Dr. Beaulieu taught Physics 1020 in the Fall Semester of 2013, and teaches a Quantum Mechanics Course for fourth-year students. While he's quite a nice guy and willing to help you out with any problems you might have, his involvement in higher-level Physics and research means he's not quite used to explaining more fundamental, general concepts.
Beaulieu is a really funny guy, and a great prof. He gives great lectures with good online notes, and very comprehensive assignments. His midterms ARE difficult but the final is easier and he will alter your mark if you show improvement. He is super approachable and will help a lot if you're trying your best but having difficulties. Awesome prof
Best Prof Ever
Really enjoyed him as a prof, but his assignments were extremely long and difficult. Tests were also nothing like the class examples. Very tough
He is a good solid prof. He has a good mix of theory and practical exams, although assignments are pretty heavy and long.
Lectures were usually very boring and while he did do examples in class they were very simple examples which will not be on the test. If you can't learn independently then this probably isn't the best course for you. Reading the notes and having prior physics knowledge and doing the mastering physics assignments are what will help you pass.
I was dreading having to take this course since I wasn't big on physics in high school, but Luc made lectures fun and explains the concept using examples from real life that we can easily understand.
Luc is an okay professor. He doesn't understand that some people do struggle with physics and do need help. Seems to get frustrated very quickly. Tests are very hard, he gives very easy examples compared to test notes. Notes are very well done out! Willing to help if ask and if you show improvement on final he will change your grade!
Luc was by far my best prof this semester, did not find lectures hard to sit through. Although the examples he does in class aren't the most helpful, slideshows posted to D2L are helpful. He is extremely approachable and more often than not will recognize you outside of class. would definitely recommend him as a prof!
I hate math in general. He made the lectures entertaining and a good laugh. He was very clear and always available to extra help. Couldn't ask for a better Proff.
Luc is a great prof, you can tell he truly cares about his students. Hes funny and makes a 9am lecture tolerable. Not an easy course but if you do the work/attend class, youll pass. His tests can be tricky, but mostly because theyre only 3 questions long. Notes are good. Willing to chat outside of class even for topics unrelated to physics.
Luc is an awesome professor. He is able to communicate the topics in a clear way so that you can understand them. He is well known for making assignments and tests tough because he wants to actually make you learn the material. However if you pay attention in lectures, are not shy, read the textbook, and willing to say "I don't know" you'll be fine
Very hard grader, doesn't give any part marks on anything. Only uses derived equations and doesn't like using numbers. He does care about his students and is willing to talk outside of class however he thinks everyone understands physics as much as he does.
Extremely tough grader and he goes way too fast during lectures. The examples he does in class don't prepare you for the tests and are way easier then the test questions. His assignments also dont prepare you for the tests either. Basically teaching yourself the course.
Seems like a decent guy but isnt the best teacher, doesn't teach the material that will be on the test and is surprised when class doesn't do well. Test are very hard and dont reflect was has been discussed in class! Good luck!
Would not recommend. Notes are terrible, doesn't do any good examples, doesn't explain anything in detail. Midterms are very hard. Expects you to know everything. Dont bother going to class he just reads through slides.
Midterm's were nothing like the weekly assignments, labs or questions done in class. Decided halfway through the term to stop using numbers yet almost every example in the weekly assignments has numbers in it. Hard grader don't expect part marks. Don't take this prof.
Gets bad reviews because the course is hard, not because he can't teach. 1050 is a BRUTAL first year course, but Beaulieu tries his best to help. Gives helpful weekly assignments for practice, and is always available to help with all course aspects. He's great guy that got stuck teaching a bad course. If you think he's bad, take a course with Lev!
Beaulieu is a really hard marker. Be warned that the course will be tough. However, if you attend the lectures you have a fighting chance. Note that a text book is a must! Do readings on your own time and practice practice practice. Only take Beaulieu if you have to.
Dr. Beaulieu isn't a bad prof at all. Don't be discouraged by the comments, 1050 is just a hard course and he's trying his best to help all his students succeed. Yes he did make our midterm variable heavy but that should be expected for future engineers and physicists so he's only preparing you for what's to come further down the road.
Good professor, exams are very tough but not because of Luc. 1050 is a course that should not be underestimated and half the reviews here are engineers who were cocky and did not study or respect the professor. Assignments are a MUST as they reflect the types of questions on the exam, and expect to seek help at the physics help center.
Trust me when I say there are MUCH worse profs than Beaulieu. Sure his tests can be tough, but he does it to make you a better physicist. I honestly enjoy going to his 9 am class. GO TO CLASS. Yes, he reads through his slideshow, but he also writes examples, and he LOVES when people ask questions. He lives for discussions, so don't be afraid to ask
Tests were difficult and not similar to class examples. Lectures did not help much and learned more at the physics help centre or on my own. Would not recommend.
Luc is halarious. Lectures arent great as he just trades through slides and doesnt cover material very well. Tests are ok and the final was fair although he is a very hard grader. Dont expect part marks.
I was shocked when Luc said his ratemyprof was full of negativity. He always answered questions thoroughly and effectively in class and kept everyone's attention with quick wit and humour. He was determined to help anyone he could in any way he could and respected everyone he taught. Knows how to deal with a noisy class. 2 thumbs up, a class act.
Not sure how he'd be in an in-person class, however, he has proven that he is not suited to teach online. Posts recorded lectures and just skims over the slides, barely explaining them. Does not go over examples in the lectures. Does not cover much of the material in class that is found on the assignments. I would not recommend.
Falsely accused many students of cheating during the midterm due to him believing students guessing multiple choice answers as cheating. He also has shown little effort when creating notes and prerecorded lectures as much of the assignment work were never covered.
While I found he was a quick responder, and his emails were quite helpful, his lectures were not. The lectures were not interesting. Also, the practice questions in the notes are a piece of cake compared to what is on the assignments and exams. I just never feel prepared when I open up an assignment b/c its always way harder than we've been taught.
Dropped his class two weeks into the semester. He was quick at answering emails, however, he is super unhelpful and rude. His lecture videos are dry and contain very little information for what is needed to know to complete the assignments. Google taught me everything for the first two weeks until I dropped. Would not recommend him
Dr. Beaulieu was the worst prof I have ever had, hands down. Not because he didn't like me or I didn't like his teaching style. He simply did not put in any work towards caring for his students, he would ignore emails from the entire class asking simple questions such as "where should I go to get help?". gave information on test mins b4 it stared..
If we were in person for this course, I'm sure he would have been a better prof. his lectures were short and uninformative and the weightings for the work are completely disproportionate to the amount of work that is required to succeed. however, the lab instructors make up for his shortcomings by providing extra help during midterms and finals.
Worst Professor I have ever had. Falsely accused many students during the exam. His notes were very terrible and they don't prepare for the problems on assignments or the exam. He's very unhelpful and I didn't learn much from his lectures. I would never recommend taking him. Avoid him if you can.
Doesnt teach concepts and says that the book is the best way to learn the course, his lectures dont explain the content, and his exams are long. If you want to pass this course, youre gonna want to give up on sleep.
Im taking this course online, since it was only offered online. I would not recommend this prof to anyone. his lectures are boring and lack any type of difficulty. You could learn 100% of the notes and still struggle on the exams. practice problems fail to prepare u for exams and assignments.
He doesn't teach, He gives you formulas and links. You will not be able to contact him. Hes not that guy
The one thing I feel that I actually learned in this nightmare of a course is that we truly are just paying for a degree and not the knowledge behind it. The only way to survive his online class is to teach yourself with third party resources. He will not answer your prayers for mercy, nor your emails. Prithee be careful, physics is a long road.
This man has bot tendencies. Midterm had absolutely no material from the course on it; final was good tho and deep down, he cared about everyone :3
By far the worst prof I've had. Gives us lengthy assignments and questions I don't think he himself can even solve, has very low-quality lectures where he barely teaches all course content that we're expected to learn. Also very rude towards his students. Who knows, maybe he's a better prof in person, but this prof was horrendous online.
did no examples just linked DrMalek doing them who used diameter instead of radius (ie did the Q wrong). sent out a rude class email insinuating we didnt know what a library was instead of trying to accommodate conflicts we had w our midterm. had A in all other classes but failed midterm & prob the final so that doesnt add up. final was super hard
Completely useless and very disrespectful towards students. Posted another professors lectures instead of making his own, never posted information on Brightspace and often sent extremely unprofessional messages to students regarding grades.
Not a great experience and I definitely will not be taking any other courses with him. His "lectures" were on average 10 minutes each and didn't explain anything well or do any examples. Students were left pretty much to fend for themselves. I only passed this course by attending external tutoring sessions.
His lectures are not okay, but you need to put in lots of effort to get an A. Questions on his midterm or final can be a bit odd.
Professor Beaulieu, is a nice person, but a terrible professor. He did not speak in a single lecture, just linked youtube videos, was hard to reach, and also the exams were completely different from practice material in the textbook and given to us. The only way you will manage to succeed in his class is if you chose to give up sleep.
He is terrible.
He is quite considerate with grading I would say. The material is difficult but the exams were fair.
Best prof
very good prof. engaged in class and gives many examples. uploads extra help videos and available after class. his two midterms were based off the problem sessions from the lab and he gives hint. Very fair final. such a king!
This prof would read off the slides and not explain anything in detail, was confused most of the time and had to seek extra help outside of classes. His midterms only had 3 questions on it, and was not easy. His assignment took hours to do in the help center and were much harder than the examples in class. Horrible teacher, would not recommended.
Engaging in lectures, cared about his students, provided alternative grading scheme if you did better on the final exam, sense of humor. He was a good professor.
The problem with Luc is that his lecture are really really boring. His exams are also unfair, not many questions and each question matters. He says getting 50 on exam is good.
Dr. Beaulieu is an excellent professor. His lectures are very enjoyable and stress free. He also provides assignments for practice. Dr. Beaulieu provides details of what is expected for an exam and assures students fully understand course material.
The professor has a unique teaching style, but engaging lectures and cares about students. Using unstuck ai and the free textbook helped me succeed in this challenging course.
