Homework usually every day, but only collected and graded on certain days (but he tells you which days beforehand). Reviews before tests. Gives practice tests for you to take home. At the beginning of class he goes over any questions from previous HW

this guy plain old boring
His exams are very hard but he explains everything pretty good.
His tests r freaking hard!! will give you a practice test before the tests but most of the time you will get suprised. But you will learn a lot about multicalc. get an A in his class & consider urself a genius!
patient, tolerant. willing to explain many times till you understand. HW is the key for sucess in his class.
patient, tolerant. willing to explain many times till you understand. HW is the key for sucess in his class.
He is an amazing teacher!!! He has all his notes on power points so you can copy examples and see them easily- yet even with this presentation method he really teaches the material. His tests are pretty good- but you do have to study- he gives out extra credit. Very approachable and helpful!
A good advise: Do Not take his classes online unless you're very familiar with the material. The tests are very hard, non-multiple choice with no formulas of any kind given. His midterm and final were 85% of the total grade, so everything is based on 2 exams which makes it even worse. I've never taken his classes on campus, so I cannot judge in tha

Kudos to Prof. Desir. He goes above and beyond to help his students learn mathematics. For a distance learning course, great discussion posts and timely e-mails. Highly recommended!
Provides excellent powerpoint presentations of lessons.
I don't know how this professor is in class, but I wouldn't take him online. There's not much help online and the tests are very hard and unexpectable. The online course is based on 2 exams and a few quizes, thats all. The tests are not multiple choise either.
Tries to be helpful but not very clear. The course is tough if you don't know his examination strategies. In my class, chapter reviews were the key to success. Eventhough I figured that out ahead of time and got an A, I really hate this guy as a person.
This guy is a jerk. Don't take his class at all. Maybe if he gets frozen out he will get fired and end up in a ditch with a 40 oz somewhere. He is beyond arrogant. His teaching style is to prove to you that you can't do it. He is NOT there to teach but to stroke his own ego. I understand he was the same way at the University of MD. FIRE HIM!!
Good teacher!
Great Professor. Weekly tests ( Piece of cake ). fair grading
He is the best math teacher I have ever had. I had him for both Calc 2 and Multivariable Calculus. He comes to class prepared and explins difficult material in a way that is very easy to understand. Take this professor if you actually want to learn the material and not just get thru the class learning the bare minimum.
he's good but he's mean
I found Prof. Desir to be extremely helpful and his power point presentations were an excellent study tool. The class is challenging, but you are rewarded if you put in the time. His presentations force you to think about the ideas behind the math, rather than just doing problems by rote. Definitely recommend the class if you want to really learn!
He has a huge accent and is not helpful at all. i dont recommend. Half the class withdrew
Prof. Desir is nice guy but not a good professor. I went to class every single day and I still failed his class. Most of the time I couldn't understand what he was saying, and he doesn't collect hw, so all of your grade is based upon your quiz and test grades. He doesn't have many office hours,so don't take him for MA 103.
If you're taking Calculus, TAKE THIS PROF!!! He's the best prof I've ever had for any class, bar none. He is super prepared for every class, and has an extremely logical, well thought out train of thought that is super easy to follow. He doesn't make the class "easy" - nothing about calc 2 is easy - but he's your best shot at understanding it well.
I took the class online. I hated the course. His online quizes were fairly easy, but his exams especialy the mid-term and final were very difficult. The way he grades can be to your advantage if you are very familiar the material and can recall everything you learn in the class. Overall, he is very tough and definatly not recommended.
horrible teacher!! corny jokes, test are hard. very unclear! never understood him bcuz of his thick accent.
His tests are not too hard if you do your homework. 40% of the problems in the test are from the textbook exercise. He is helpful after class. But in class he does not clarify every step or concept unless you stop and ask him(he thinks you should know it!). Overall, he'll be a challenging teacher if you're not prepared.
He is Good teacher, i had a good relationship with him during the semester but that relationship was not happy ending after he gave me a B for 88% that was bitter to swallow, he is mean, unless u get 90% don't expect and A but he rewards for those who students who have bad test by replacing it with the final test grade.butno if u do well.surprisingl
He is a nice person to talk to,but not a good instructor. HE takes off large chunks of points on exams even if you show the right work and doesn't grade fairly. He expects you to know every little detail and if you don't, he will get mad. His class was very boring and wasn't helpful at all. I don't reccomend him to anyone.
Don't know why ppl here are so harsh and all they concentrate on is his accent! for god sake this is a diverse college, what the F-k do you expect? I'm currently taking a summer class right now with him and this guy has really been helpful so far. His power points are definitely on point. He really cares about the class material and you can tell.
I took this class online. There were weekly online 3-5 question quizzes. You could take them up to 3 times.3 1hour online tests, and 2hour midtern and final on assessment center.Partial credit was given.I absolutely hate math, but it was a lot more bearable to work at my own pace.Online participation not mandatory, but busts grade.Helpful links given
I would say he has a huge accent but at this point I could care less. I got an F in his class even though I always attended and tryed to seek help. Point blank... he can not teach. I retook this class again with Zhao who also has an accent but earned a B. At the end of the day dont take him. Half the class failed.
okay yeh he might seem nice but his teaching skills are uhhh..not effective. he has power point presentations every class and he talks mainly throughout the whole class. doesnt really have the class participate or involved. it seems like hes just trying to get what he needs to say out, and leave. Nice guy but bad teaching skills. There are better p
Does good job @ breaking problems down step by step, but is a bit fast in presenting them. Has no problem answering more questions after class. Does not grade homework so must do good on quizzes, tests, & attendance. Does give partial credit on quiz/test so make sure you show all ur work. Class can be hard at times. Other times is easy. STUDY HARD!
Probability the best math teacher I have ever had. He made math fun and interesting. If you want to pass the class DO THE HOMEWORK!! I don?t know how many times he says ?I don?t do math on you.? You have to practice to get good. Every question on his quizzes comes from the homework?s. And he gives practice test for the tests and final. Take him.
Summer I. Prof Desir has an unfair bad rep. He is an excellent teacher who really loves his subject. He doesn't just throw a bunch of formulas at you to memorize. His tests are short, and are focused mainly on concepts and pattern recog. Show you know the concept and get credit for wrong answers. TI89-92 allowed.
Prof Desir is a FANTASTIC teacher. Loves the subject, loves to teach, always SUPER organized, very good at explaining clearly. The one issue I would take is that his tests are sometimes disproportionately hard. About 1/2 of the Calc 3 final was taken from the last 1 OR 2 WEEKS of class.... Doesn't do a great job of making *cumulative* tests.
This guy is useless. First of all let me tell u about myself, scored an A in calc 181, so i def know how to do math. This guy, first of all, gives the hardest and the worst tests ever. Dont even get me started on the final. Final, i studied 36 hours, an i failed. tells you something. Chapter 8 was 40 points and we finished it 1 day before the exam.
He is a super nice guy, and I enjoyed going to his classes. He was also very respectful to all of his students. However, his 110 class is not an easy A course. His tests are hard. Make sure you read the questions correctly. Forget the text book. I got an A and I never bought the textbook. All you need is mathxl.
Taken online. Not a huge workload, and he is a very nice professor. He's understanding when there's technical difficulties with blackboard, and overall, his class isn't difficult. One thing I don't appreciate is how the mid-term and final exam are 80% of your grade.
week to week work is manageable as are online tests. But the midterm and final are nothing like classwork and account for 60% of your grade. The review provided are pointless and a poor preparation for exams. need to do all the homework again to prepare.
hands down one of the best math teachers i have ever had. he is super helpful and kind. going in for extra help during his office hours helped me too. his examples to help you understand the work you are doing help you understand better.
Not a horriblehard professor, but not very easy. You do hw online (really helpful), you have quizzes (short) every week, 3 tests, and 1 exam. The last test and final exam is when I felt that the prof didn't do a very good job in teaching. Too much material and not very clear. The final was VERY difficult. Try your hardest, and you'll get a B+.
Hes a decent teacher but his teaching style just wasnt for me. Mr Desir would teach you the concepts and then immediately let you try on your own or with the group around you. Then when hes goes over the examples, he rushes while youre still left confused trying to comprehend what was just taught. Homework on webassign was almost never like class.
if you dont do homework not only you wont get A but also you may probably get F or D. test are no easy as pie but if you do HW and understand it, test become easy for you. for more practice don't forget to solve questions of Stewart's book, ones which is similar to homework. more than half of class failed just because they didn't do any HW.
Got C w/Penn, so understood material well, but needed B. Retook w/Desir. Kinda having regrets. His grading is very inconsistent. 2 students can write same answer to problem & get wildly different scores. Desir is a great example of teaching to a test and not caring about concept mastery. If you miss a -- sign, wrong is wrong. Even if work was perf
I took professor desire class this fall and passed with an A. He is very helpful and explains things clearly. You certainly have to pay attention in class and do your homework or you won't pass. Be in class everyday. Great professor!
Prof. Desir made math really easy, as long as you are willing to put the work in. There is quite a decent amount of hw and a quiz almost every week. If you fall behind, he has office hours and is very helpful. He is a wonderful speaker and loves his job, and is willing to get topical occasionally with students when there's time. Fav prof so far.
Lacks patience. This teacher has no method whatsoever and always seems to spout out all this pep-talk regarding to do your best but in actuality does nothing in regards to help his students. He might seem nice but his teaching skills are not effective. Seems like hes just trying to get what he needs to leave quick. Be careful, he's a strict grader.
The key to pass this class is to do the homework online. Professor Luc doesn't go into the tinniest detail during lecture time. To understand the material it is mandatory to go over the homework and talk to the Professor during office hours. He gives extra credits at the end of the semester and is willing to drop the lowest test score sometimes.
Awesome professor, take him! I went to talk to him and he was so approachable and nice. If you need help with something he'll explain it completely. I had trouble with another professor and he allowed me to switch into his class and was so flexible. He made accommodations for me and let me complete the course in 3 weeks when the course lasts 5. :)
Great teacher! Luc knows how to teach. His humor is funny. He really enjoys saying Hello! and engaging the class. His tests and homework are not challenging and i recommend this course. He is a straight Savage ;)
Mr. Desir is by far one of the best math teachers I've had so far. He explains the concepts crystal clear and even uses analogies that actually get you to understand the concepts better rather than leaving you even more lost. He is pretty funny and really interacts with the class so i would definitely recommend him.
I love this man. He is one of the nicest professors I've ever had. Knowledgable, approachable, hilarious.
Professor Desir was potentially one of the best math professors on Montgomery College. His commitment to teaching the material and making sure students understood the material was one of the best I've ever seen, plus he tries to keep the material entertaining as well. How he got a rating of 3.3 I don't know. As long you work hard you'll will pass.
You can see his passion for math a mile away! He is willing to go over the material so you can understand it! If you ask him any question, he'll answer it clearly. You have to study for tests. That would be my biggest regret. You also have to learn the concepts well enough to apply them anywhere at anytime on any problem. Curve balls will be throw.
Very good, and inspirational professor. The class itself is very difficult but he will teach you all you need to know to get a good grade. You just need to put lots of work on it. It's CALC 2, so won't be easy.
Honestly one of my favorite professors at mc. He really cares about his students and even gave me a motivational pep talk in class because I told him I needed motivation for my classes. His test are straight forward and he really focuses on helping you understand the concept versus just trying to get you to pass. Highly recommend!
Man, hes one of the best math prof. He cares his students a lot.
He was really caring, he makes lessons easy to understand. Very good professor.
I HATE math. Loathe it. But he made it enjoyable and understandable. You will WORK in this class, but it's clear he loves to teach and wants his students to understand (and not just pass). He's caring, compassionate, and funny. He made me feel like I can accomplish anything and inspired me to take calculus even though I don't technically need it.
He's funny and makes the class fun . Differential equations is hard itself and requires practice but if you're smart then your set. The exams are straightforward no curve balls just make sure you do some extra problems outside of exam reviews and do some problems from the textbook.
Teaching Diff EQ is really hard and to be honest Dr. Desir makes really easy. If you put in the work in his class he might bump your grade. For example, if you are improving on your tests and have a 79 he will bump it to a B grade. Which is honestly really kind of him.
Professor Desir made Calculus 1 into an interesting class. I never felt bored in these classes even once, and he taught very clearly on most subjects. However, on the subjects about word problems, he would often rush through them, and most of the class would be confused. Besides that flaw, Prof. Desir is a solid choice, just study.
I think he is terrible, he teaches as if you should already know this, his tests and quizzes are extremely hard and difficult. When I retook the class with another professor I got an A but with him I got a F. HE is a bad teacher do not take him.
If you are good at math Desir's class is LIITTTTTT 10/10 recommend. His class is stimulating and interesting, and he truly cares about mathematics. Plus he is nice
Absolutely amazing. Professor Desir teaches you the why and how behind each concept and makes sure that you understand it to the fullest extent. You'll find that he doesn't teach for the test; he teaches for understanding. You can be super creative on tests. If you walk into class truly wanting to learn, you'll never walk out disappointed. :)
Professor Desir is a very funny teacher. He always has time for students to ask questions in class and his office hours. Even though he speaks fast with an accent, but it is not hard to understand. You also have to play hard attention in class because he will stop teaching and look at you!
He's a pretty great teacher, I'm hoping to get him for the rest of my math series. If you're trying to figure out who to take right now, I'd definitely recommend him.
Professor Desir is one of the best professors I had in Math! His lectures are very fun, he is very organized and his tests are straightforward. Easy grader but make sure to do all his test sample and homework on WebAssign.
Professor Luc. Desir is an awesome teacher. He explains the course materials properly and explicitly. He gives a lot of online home works yes, but still he gives extensions for a good reason given. He is one of the most hilarious and funny teacher I've ever meet, also kind enough to help students outside class and a very honest non-judgmental guy.
His voice so loud and has accent, so you will never understand what he is saying. His teaching skill is too poor. You can just expect his teaching for every single lecture as yelling. He is not passionate and never want to make your grade up. If you really want to get A or B don't take his class. If you want to just pass with C take his class.
he expects students to answer questions by showing all steps like how you get the answer. He takes a lot of point just for a little mistake. Even though I understood his lecture, test is very difficult. His lecture does not fully cover for each exam.
Professor Desir is definitely a good professor. He is very clear, even though he has a slight accent, on everything he is explaining. He gives you packets to fill out as he is instructing. The only negative I had with the class was that the Online Homework on WebAssign was OVERLY difficult. You may spend hours doing homework. Take it seriously.
Think twice before taking him, he's very condescending and will answer questions to you as if you should already know the stuff in this class. He only teaches the bare surface of the material, and for the rest of the 2 hours you are on your own to "work with your group". I self-taught myself everything, and could never ask questions to him or TA.
Most stressful math professor Ive had. He got rid of all exams and made the final and midterm worth 70% of the grade, and 30% else homework and quizzes. He assigned hw with due dates of 2 days and some of 4 days for one or multiple topics and it was a LOT. His exams also were awful, the final average was 50% something. No curve. Dont take him.
It's super rare for me to rate, but I am here to warn everyone before taking him. Yes he cares and he's funny BUT his exams are SUPER hard! And when I would ask questions he would expect me to know it and make me feel dumb. I am actually very good at math, but this professor makes it impossible to succeed. IF YOU CAN CHOSE ANOTHER PROFESSOR, DO IT!
He barely teaches anything in his lectures and the webassign HW is composed of almost everything he has never taught in detail. I had to teach myself from youtube. Doesn't give partial credit, won't even look at your work unless the answer is right, so he can ask you in a condecending tone about how you got the answer if you didn't do it his way.
He did not do anything for his class other than posting some useless videos we basically have to learn it on our own. I don't recommend him at all.
Great person, lacking professor. The professor only scratches the surface of some of the material, yet the homework and the tests of the topics go more in depth and are way more complex than what was discussed. The class might as well be a self taught as you'll find yourself doing more learning outside of the classroom than in it.
Very good teacher, I dont know where these other negative ratings are coming from. But I can attest to his teaching ability. Watch The Videos before coming to class and ask questions when you dont understand during and after class.
Great guy, super funny, but I do not recommend taking his class if you want to pass. You have to teach yourself outside of class and in class all he goes over are examples, then straight to group work. Lots of homework too, and is a lot harder that what he goes over. Heavy accent too. Did good on one test and he blatantly accused me of cheating.
He may have been a great teacher on-campus, but if you don't participate in his onlineclass regularly, you are basically suspect for cheating depending on your scores. He doesn't have a logical reason as to why he cannot proctor every exam instead of putting a ton of pressure on his students to participate. He personally made me feel uncomfortable.
Professor Desir is great at making concepts clear and connecting past ideas to the present. He is always enthusiastic and wants to see you learn.
A great guy and a very good teacher of math. You have to put in a lot of work on your own, and tests are hard, but he guides you how to learn the material and loves his class, i had a five week calc 2 course, so he couldn't move slow. But regardless of that he may be the best math teacher I've ever had. Calc 2 is tough but work hard and take him.
I took calc 2 this summer and it was time consuming and difficult. Prof Desir explained all the concepts clearly, but there is a lot of work you have to do outside of class. The tests are very difficult and require you to have a mastery of the concepts, but the study guides he gives definitely help.
He's very hard to understand with his accent even harder to get what he's saying. even if you use other methods from youtube to solve the same problem, I was threatened to receive an F on my final and on the course. Doesn't help in the discussion but puts directly negative grades without any comment or help. If u can cop with it, u are welcome.
I've taken professor desir online. In the beginning, it was going well. As time went on, and when I needed him to communicate with me, he was not there. He did not reply to my emails. In discussion posts, he barely replies and gives us chance to recorrect ourselves. I don't know how he is in-person classes, but I wouldn't suggest hi take him online
He is a good person. Although his accent made it very harder for me to understand the lectures and his math lectures are not very effective as you just learn the concepts not the difficult problems that you gonna have in the exams. He is very strict with homework deadlines. I barely learned anything from that class.
The professor asked students to watch videos before class to cover the bare surface of the material. He believes he teaches for concepts but he sure doesn't test for them. The tests were unrelated to hw. He made many students feel uncomfortable in class and when your grade starts to slip he begins to loose his sh- stuff. He's just a difficult prof
I took Professor Desire online. It was going swimmingly at first. As time passed, and I wanted him to speak with me, he was no longer present. He did not respond to any of my emails. In discussion postings, he seldom responds and gives us the opportunity to fix ourselves. I'm not sure how he does in-person classes, but I wouldn't recommend taking.
Great at teaching math. Makes his own examples for class separate form the book. Gives work sheets full of math problems outside the book. Insightful teaching methods. Engages students and ensures everyone understands key concepts. Very nice guy as well. However, he is a hard grader and there is a lot of homework.
He is the absolute worst. He honestly doesn't care he gives so much hw. His lectures are as useless as his ability to teach. You are on your own and you will need to read textbooks and outsource to actually learn anything. I do not recommend him at all.
At the end of the day, he is a nice person but does not prepare you well for the few tests that determine your grade. He is too conceptual and skips over a lot of the algebra needed to do well in this class. Be ready to study a lot on your own.
Unlike most professors, Professor Desir cares more about you getting a broad and thorough understanding of the material than you passing the class just to pass the class. His classes ask you to be diligent and very attentive. He gives a fair amount of homework but if you can do all of them by yourself you will be fine.
Professor Desir is an engaging and good presenter. He made concepts that seemed very difficult to me simple in a matter of days, and due to this I was able to pass his class. I took Calc 2 over the summer, which definitely was not an easy endeavor, but if you do the work and are an active participant in his class, you will be sure to pass.
