Dr. Delezene was always available to answer my questions. Also, he made the subject matter REALLY INTERESTING. I loved the class!! (He's also pretty cute.)
Very dry lecture. Do not take his class.
Delezene is amazing. I took him for my lecture and lab, and he is by far the best professor I've taken in my four semesters at the UofA. Some of his lectures are boring, but he's pretty funny and usually makes them worth going to. Don't buy either textbook, for he won't use them. Also, he's sexy beyond all comprehension. 10/10 TAKE NO ONE ELSE.
One of the coolest professors I've ever had at the U of A.. I really enjoyed his lectures and the way he presented the material.
Dry lecture, terrible slides, obsession with teeth. It's an easy course, but you'll pay for it the entire way through. Didn't buy the text book. Or really even take notes because he rambles so much. I ended up not attending lecture and doing better on the exams teaching myself. He also talks about his "kitties" all the freaking time.
Excellent professor. Explains things in great detail and always willing to answer questions. Great PowerPoints. Knows his stuff.
Don't really understand the negative comments. Material is relevant to tests (and life), he's extremely knowledgeable about his subject, and the class isn't all that hard. Drops lowest test. He makes Bio Anth as interesting as anyone could. Definitely recommend.
He is a very good teacher, his obsession with teeth is that it's his PhD but it is always relevant. I've never used the book, but I attend class, which while not mandatory is highly recommended. He is super accommodating, so any problems you should feel comfortable talking to him.
He's a really good teacher but if you have him at 7:30 in the morning, he might bore you a bit. I never used the book
Dr. Delezene is extremely helpful and will meet with you whenever. I did not like the subject at all but Dr. D is a really good professor so that helped a lot. When studying for tests, only look at the sample questions at the end of lectures. I did the study guide he gives and that was a big mistake.Memorize the sample questions and you'll do fine
So helpful!!! Absolutely go to the test reviews!!! Try to review over his powerpoints if you miss class or you get behind. It's alot of pointless material if it doesn't apply to your major (like me) but he will help in every way. I wish I would have asked for more help. Go through study questions and know big concept not just definitions for tests.
Dr. Delezene is amazing. He's very knowledgable about his subject, super nice, and will help you in any way. I took him for lab, and it was an easy A. Also, he's not bad on the eyes, if you know what I mean :)
I enjoyed Delezene's class. There are four tests, and he will drop your lowest one. As long as you go over the powerpoints, you should do good on the tests. He's very helpful, and if you don't understand something he will do his best to clarify it for you. Attendance is not mandatory. Just make sure to keep up with the lectures. I got an A.
Dr. Delezene is a fantastic teacher. I took this class over summer and did not want to miss any of the lectures. They were an hour and a half long 5 days a week and I never got bored. If you ask a question he answers it fully and completely. Really cool guy. Wish he taught more classes...
Excellent Professor, most helpful, engaging and interesting. Great way to fulfill your science requirement.
Best professor I have ever had, went to every class and lab and got an A. Works with and cares about his students. Taking anyone else would be a mistake.
He is an amazing teacher! I am very interested in Anthropology, but even if you are not, he makes lectures very interesting!! He works with his students and does his best to make the class as understandable and easy as possible. :) Definitely get him as a teacher!
GET THIS GUY! Way better than the other Anthro teachers. His tests are easier. Don't bother going to class. Just look over the slides and do the practice questions at the end. No HW, just avg of 3 tests which is stressful but not challenging. For the lab, get Les Eason. Nicest, funniest guy and follows Luke's lecture. Both very cool guys, easy As.
He was an okay professor. I really started not to attend towards the end because things got boring. You never use the textbook. All you need to do is look at the study questions at the end of each powerpoint and you will pass the class with an A or B.
Get this teacher! He is so easy, I didn't go to class besides the very first day and the tests days and I made an A. All you have to do is look over the practice questions at the end of the power points. 3 tests and an optional final
While his lectures aren't mandatory, they're helpful. The sample questions at the end of his lectures are crucial to passing exams, it would be a good idea to attend the lectures anyway because he's very good at explaining any material you're not sure about. And yes, he's quite handsome as well.
easy class! great professor!
Seems like a genuinely good person.
Disregard what everyone is saying about his tests being very easy and only studying the sample questions. Yes they do help on exams but there is still a ton of info not covered in sample questions that you will see on exam. Also it is hard to study for his tests because his reviews are unbelievably long and expects you to know a million things.
Lectures would definitely help but I didn't attend but maybe two and got an A. Lab is very helpful with tests and extremely easy but it definitely was not just the sample questions word for word. Curved the class a whole 5 points and drops the lowest test grade so final is optional. Pretty easy teacher and science credit
It's a tough class to begin with, so you definitely have to study! The final is optional, and he drops the lowest test grade. Has a good sense of humor and you can tell he knows what he's talking about!
It wasn't the most fascinating class I've taken and the 7:30 am lectures were pretty tough but he would help in any way he could when asked. The test reviews the night before were extremely helpful. He answered an email I sent him at 2 am the night before the final regarding a test question. Really tries to help students.
Great Class. He handed out study Sheets before the exam. Look them over. they are a fantastic resource. He goes over a lot of material and this helped me immensely .It is a lot of material but If you have everything on it memorized you can get a 100%, like I did on the final.:) He knows his stuff and is always available if you have question.
he is a great professor who wants you to do good, I slacked until the final and had a D in the class, with him dropping the lowest test and curving the final grade and acing the final I ended up with an A... ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE THANK YOU BASED GOD
It is an intro class taught like a grad class. All i feel like we covered was teeth. I would say 90% of the material is teeth and diets. Ither 10% is skulls, walking, and evolution. Unless you plan on being an anthropologist, dont take this. Take principles of biology and physics or general sociology. Especially if your not a science major.
Test are over lots of information. You will need to study a decent amount to receive good grades.
Attendance is not mandatory, but I'm not sure why you would want to skip. His lectures are so interesting to listen to since he is so intelligent on this subject. Tests are extremely straight-forward. Study the study-guide and you can make A's on every test. He is always willing to help out any student. Overall you should take his class.
The class is easy if you pay attention and take notes. His tests are easy if you skim over the study guide. Overall it was an interesting class, good for people who are just looking for a science requirement.
I needed a science credit so I took this class. I truly enjoyed it. It was a little slow at times, only because I'm not much of a science person. Nonetheless, I enjoyed this and would take again. Help is there if you ever need it. Pay attention in class, study a decent amount for tests, and show up to class.
Good for a non science major needing a science credit. Go to class, listen, and study a little on the way and you should be fine. Definitely have to study for tests, but he gives a study guide so you won't be too lost in the material. Attendance taken 6 times throughout the semester, usually on Fridays. Pretty easy A, recommend this class.
I would definitely recommend taking his intro into biological anthropology class. He gives good lectures that are useful for studying for exams. His reviews cover all the test material and allow any one to do well in his class.
He's extremely passionate and knowledgeable about his work which made this intro class a lot more interesting than I expected it to be. Fairly interesting lectures, easy to follow study guides, basic multiple choice exams- plus he drops the lowest exam score. You won't use the book at all, don't bother buying it.
Good professor, just really cocky when presenting material. Tests are heavily weighted, so if you do bad on one, you are in trouble. Material is boring if you are not a science person. Overall, solid professor with a hard grading rubric.
I honestly really liked Delezene and his class. He's extremely knowledgeable and tries to be cool. You don't need the textbook and he takes attendance randomly. As long as you're able to show up, listen, and review his lectures, you'll be fine! Highly recommend as a core class.
There are four exams but he drops the lowest. He takes attendance 6 times a semester, but you don't know when. Tests aren't very difficult, he gives a study guide, so if you study you should get an A. 3 open-book online quizzes. Your grade consists of the 3 tests, 3 quizzes, and 6 attendances. Interesting subject and his lectures are good.
There are four tests throughout the year including the final, all of which he provides a detailed study guide for. The test questions are always easier than what is on the study guide, and he drops your lowest grade, which ended up being the final for me. The material is very tough but he makes the class as easy as possible.
Solid professor. If you need a science class take this. If you go to class and pay attention tests are fairly easy. He prepares you for the tests better than most professors. Would take again.
He does have a slight obsession with teeth but he is a good teacher that puts everything on blackboard. If you put in even a little effort you will do fine.
He's a great person to talk to. He is so open about discussing tests and diving deeper into your questions. I went to him after every test I took and we really went in depth about what I had questions on and how I can improve my studying techniques for the class. He really is rooting for you in the end, it's just up to you to take advantage .
He is a great professor and although I do not care for anthropology, he made class very interesting and easy to understand. He takes 10 random attendance checks throughout the semester so technically attendance isn't mandatory but I recommend showing up so you understand the material for the test. There are 4 tests and he drops your lowest one
Professor Delezene talked about anthropology as if we all understood what he was talking about. You have to go to class to understand the material unless you can teach yourself it from the book. He does random attendance checks and a few quizzes online. He's not a bad professor you just have to REALLY keep up.
Delezene really is such a nice guy and is really passionate about his subject. He is wicked smart and knows how to teach this material. He is also willing to meet outside of class and really does care about his students succeeding
One of the best professors Ive ever had. Wish he taught more classes.
This is a good class if you're looking for your science credit. The class is all about evolution and is pretty interesting. He takes six random attendance grades and he will always do it on a Friday or the day before a break/holiday. The material isn't that hard to understand if you go to class.
He on purposely takes attendance on the days he knows students will be gone for holidays. His test look like they are written in another language due to all the fancy monkey names. Also there has been so much unnecessary drama with the grad students... its so uncomfortable to even come to class at this point. Don't even think about talking in class
Dr. Delezene was an overall good professor. You could tell he really did care about his students. He takes 6 random attendance checks throughout the semester, which can really hurt your grade if you're not careful! Tests consist of 50 multiple choice questions. Just really know the material and show up to class and you should be just fine!
Attendance is taken 6 times randomly so you roll the dice every time you skip. He's a good professor and the study guides are intimidating but the tests are usually vague and easier than what you do on the study guide. Pay attention to his in class questions. Overall easy and kinda interesting.
Dr. Delezene is one of my favorite professors that Ive had in my two years so far. Hes extremely knowledgeable and the class is very interesting to the point where I looked forward to attending his lectures. A lot on the study guide but the tests are a lot easier than what he has you study for. 6 random attendances so try not to skip!
He made a subject that I would normally consider pretty boring into something I actually wanted to learn each day. He is very knowledgeable and even cracks some David Attenborough style jokes here and there. You have to study, but he always gives you everything you need to get an A.
This class wasn't challenging. It just requires effort. In all honesty, Delezene's lectures are super long and pretty boring, but they are essential if you want to do well. 5/6 attendance checks count for 10% of your grade, and tests are very lecture based. There isn't homework in this class. I made a high B in the class and Delezene rounded me up.
AMAZING UNDERSTANDING PROFESSOR. He is very accessible outside of class. Genuine person and very interesting class. This teaching style keeps you very interested 100000/10 ps. go to class attendence is 10% of your grade
I took this class online and Delezene is great. It's an easier science. Although you don't have to go to class, you will learn a lot if you do. He does a great job teaching, and if you go to class, you should have no problem getting an A on exams
Dr. Delezene's Human Evolution through Pop Culture class is so interesting! We watch videos and movies everyday and discuss the connections to human evolution. There were only two essay-based tests and one final project. I recommend this class!
I REALLY enjoyed taking this class with this professor. I didn't know much about biological anthropology before this class, and now I'm pretty interested in it. His tests/exams are not hard and attendance is optional. He is very good at communicating and being flexible.
DR. DELEZENE IS A KING. I missed class a lot however I got an A on every single test. Weekly quizzes and tests are the only grades. He is awesome, take him.
You will get an A for just doing the weekly quizzes and taking the tests. Thats all you need to know. Best prof ever!!!!!
literally the best professor I've ever had
Professor Delezene is the Goat. The course is exciting and is a great science to take at the university.
RDH: rate 4/10 date: nah hate: nah etc: gives me ross geller vibes
I absolutely love this guy. He made funny jokes in lectures and his class is relatively easy if you just do the quizzes that are 3 questions once a week and the exams. If you just pay attention in the lectures you will be fine.
Do not take Anthropology. If you are a bad test taker this class is absolutely not for you!
I really enjoyed this class as a non-science major. The lectures were interesting and the tests were reasonably difficult. He explains all the material well which made tests easier. Overall,l I think he and his course were great.
Dr.Delezene is very passionate about bio-anthropology. His class isn't super hard but you definitely need to put a little bit of work in and it's super important to show up and make at least 5 out of 6 random attendances. I don't really recommend this class if you are a bad test taker considering tests make up most of the grade and they are timed.
If you're a bad test taker, don't take this class. You do have to pay a little bit of attention during class, as well as random attendance he takes for grades.
I would never recommend this course. The lectures are very boring and Dr. Delezene takes random attendance on days when he knows his students will be gone. If you are looking for an easy science I would not suggest this class as he goes out of his way to make the tests and quizzes harder than they need to be.
Yeah he takes attendance randomly, but if you go to class every time, you'll be fine, especially since he drops one of the attendance grades. The lectures are cool just loaded with info and he definitely gets bored if you don't interact with him during lecture. This class is not super easy but he is very good about answering any questions you have.
eh, kind of mid. The lectures were SO boring. He talks very monotone unless he gets angry about people talking over him... takes attendance randomly 6 times and 5 count but it is heavily weighted and it will totally tank your grade if you don't show up. Do not take this if you want an easy science. Recommend astronomy or maybe geology.
Good professor if you need to take an easy social science class, but don't take it if you don't have to.
I am not willingly taking this class but Professor Delezene is able to make something I have never cared about, decently interesting. He is very passionate about what he is teaching which makes class more bearable. The final grade is basically only on your tests so if you are a bad test grader do not take this class. Attendance is also mandatory.
This class was extremely easy. Tests are all online and no respondus lockdown... take that as you will. His lectures are very hard to stay focused to, but make sure to go to class because he takes 5 random attendance and you can never tell when he might take it
Dr. Delezene's lectures are very, very dull, making lectures seem extremely long. He gives multiple opportunities to stay ahead, with the lowest exam grade, two lowest quiz grades, and one attendance grade being dropped at the end of the semester. I missed an attendance day due to a medical emergency (with proof), and he refused to drop the zero.
Loves to take attendance when he knows not a lot of people are going to be in class. Tests are online. Lectures are very boring though. Just show up and get hw done for other classes. He takes 6 attendance's but only 5 make up 10% of your grade.
Dr. Delezene is truly a passionate teacher who loves everything anthropology. His passion is visible in all of his lectures, which are nothing short of brilliant. With a little effort, an A is extremely manageable. 100% recommend his class, even as a biz major, it was one of my favorites.
This class is easy if you go, a good percent of your grade is from random attendances and easy quizzes, Mr. Delezene is highly educated on this topic and you can tell he is really passionate about this class. I would recommend his section for this course.
Professor D is great! The class was interesting and straightforward. Make sure you get all the attendance grades (there are 6 attendance grades in all) and do all the weekly quizzes and you should be good to go. Make sure you go to labs. Note: attendance might be taken on inconvenient days (like days before a holiday).
He managed to make biology and anthropology actually feel interesting and relevant. I did have some trouble concentrating on lectures, but his lecturing is streamlined and he knows what he's talking about, and is willing to answer questions. My only wish is that he put his lecture notes in the slides he provides for easier reference.
This class is not difficult, but it isn't super easy. He changed the grading policy where tests are 75% of your overall grade. However, he adds 5 points to your overall grade if you attend class. This class is interesting, and he is very passionate about it. This is definitely one of the best science classes you can take.
Nothing wrong with the Professor but I did not enjoy the course.
Professor Delezene is very very knowledgeable. There are weekly quizzes and 3 required tests, taken on scantron, with an optional final to replace a bad grade on a test if needed. This class is not too challenging but it does require studying to do well on the tests. Attendance is optional but he will reward with extra credit for good attendance.
He is not a bad professor I just had a hard time following what he was teaching. His lectures didn't feel like they were in order and you have multiple pages of study guides that didn't feel very helpful.
Dr. Delezene is a dry lecturer, but he provides ample opportunities to learn the material with in-class PointSolutions questions and weekly quizzes. If you do the PointSolutions questions and quizzes, you'll be prepared for his tests. Don't let his big study guides scare you. He's a nice guy but means business, so take it seriously. Recommended!
Gave most of the quiz information during class lectures which was harder to find if you didn't attend class. Exams were very difficult, lots of information that was hard to find or answer especially the final exam. If you attend class and pay attention, you should pass.
I did do good in this class, but Dr. Delezene is not good at teaching what he wants students to study. He lectures heavily, but on the exams, is almost completely different information. I would not recommend taking this class if you aren't too fond of going to class every single day.
The professor understands most students are there for their science credit. Attendance is not required but he does clickers and you can get extra credit at the end of the year for it. 3 tests and the final is optional. You get a cheat sheet for all the tests, you have to study for the tests to do good, but he posts study guides + slides on bb.
I love dr. delezene. He is one o the few professors that actually like the subject in which he is teaching. yes, this class is very lecture heavy, but you do not have to go unless you want bonus points. personally, I enjoyed his lectures. FYI if you aren't getting a B or an A in this class, you're probably not putting any effort lol
Delezene is an amazing professor! I loved being in his class, he is truly passionate about Bio Anth. and encouraged questions. His attendance is extra credit, and his quizzes are easy. His exams are harder but if you go to class you will do well.
Super easy class. Extra credit for attendance and for every exam. There's quizzes every week but 2 lowest grades get dropped.
