fun class, he is open to all sides of the debate not just liberal side of things
Good debates, refuses to give perfect grades on anything though.
Good Guy. Willing to help when you need it. Any semi-committed student should recieve the grade they want.
Pretty good proffesor loves to help students out and loves when you come by his office hours. His classes aren't too hard but they're not easy either generous on grading.
Well organized and knows subject matter well.
Great Professor, actually speaks english...really helps with your writing, i know personally i learned a lot about my own writing after i took this class. we also had numerous debates that were typically a lot of fun to take part in. if you have a chance to take this class with this professor i highly suggest it
Dedicated prof who is very interested/knowledgeable in economics. He is a very nice guy who is concerned with helping students. Would take another class with this prof if possible.
Very interested and knowledgable in economics. GO TO CLASS, otherwise your fellow classmates will get a quiz based on attendance! The GRADER IS A LIE!
Very difficult to achieve an A, however, he is fair. Don't miss any quizzes, a couple points can make the difference between an A- and an A. Ask for feedback on everything, especially term papers so that you know what is expected. Start Strong and finish strong to be successful in this class.
Basically if you do all of your work, you'll get a good grade
The prof is very fair with the grading and is very willing to help students. If you do your work and go to class (though not mandatory, quizzes can make a big difference in your grade) you'll at least come out with a pretty good grade. Getting someone to edit your papers is the surest shot to do very well in the class.
Overall, Great teacher. Very interesting course. As mentioned very difficult to get an A since the curve is only top 20% with 40 people. Definitely go to classes for quizzes. Quizzes are based on readings so at least skim the chapters. Very enthusiastic and extremely interested in students. Only prof that ever asked us to use ratemyprof
a lot of interesting topics covered throughout the quarter. Much more stimulating than supply and demand graphs. Fun class overall.
only one big term paper, but a final which is weird. also, the six short papers are only worth 6 points each, but he makes it very hard to get full credit. that can hurt in the end, as the points missed add up and it also makes the final and the term paper less importnat relatively. i still got an A though. i recommend the teacher after all!
Cool professor
The greatest class format, and the fairest prof. Students are not babied nor are their grades. Two incredibly fair knowledge fests and a final megafest. 25 and 50 points, respectively. Homeworks and quizzes are extra point bonus points. If you want to learn Economics, Engelhardt lays it out for you. And he's hilarious.
Text book is highly recommened. All stuff shown in lecture is from the text book. The exams are ok. Final is easier than the midterms.
Lucas is a pretty sweet dude. He's rather quirky while giving lectures, however, that makes them enjoyable (it beats sitting through a 2 hour monotone lecture). His tests are rather easy - if you do the homeworks and quizzes, you should have no problem getting an A on the tests. In 4 years at OSU, he's one of the best teachers I've had.
post notes online, very helpful, lucas really wants everyone to learn and understand. he gives opportunity for extra credit. i would recommend him to anyone who is taking economics
Helpful and care about teaching you what he feels passionate about. Great teacher in my words.
good teacher, care if students understand materials.
Very nice Professor! If you just study a little bit and you will get A~ Highly recommend to everyone!
Draws out lectures to pass time, inevitably repeating himself. Some may find this helpful, but I'd rather sleep. Do the homework and understand it, easy A!
Really encouraged students learning. Very good teacher.
Very good professor, Hw's due on tuesdays, Quizes are on thursdays for BONUS points. Midterms are tricky but fair, learn lecture material and read book. At end of class if you do better on the final, he will split that grade in half and use it for your midterms... 25 of 50 questions on the final were VERBATIM from midterms 1 & 2,answers switched.
He was very fair. This class wasn't cake nor impossible. The format of the class/his teaching pushed me to try harder as a student. Good student experience. Would recommend Lucas!
He is excellent!
instead of calculations, he concentrates more on graphs and explanation, which is really useful if you want to practice your logic and learn real economics. there are only a few homeworks but need to be done carefully. midterm is a little bit hard, but he will offer a huge curve. final is fair. if you want to get A, just work hard, and it deserves
The best professor Ohio State has to offer. Take his course. He cares about his job, but cares about teaching more. Exteremely fair and helpful.
hilarious and loves to get chalk everywhere besides the chalkboard!!!!
Lucas is great, always willing to help. Is very funny. Class is intense, but everthing that is taught is usefull. Recommend having Lucus has an instuctor, he is the best Econ instructor I have had yet.
Great instructor, you can tell he really like economics and he is always willing to help the students with anything they do not understand.
Not too difficult... go to class, pay attention, take notes and you'll do well. He really tries to make things interesting, even when it's nearly impossible.
good teacher
Not the most interesting course I've ever taken, but E. ran an incredibly fair class that treated college students as responsible young adults. Attendance isn't mandatory, notes ARE posted online, but his explanations will pay major dividends, so I recommend going. If you must take 502, he's a good prof to have. Good curve, reasonable exams, bowtie
A really nice guy and caring professor who loves economics. Engelhardt will anxiously help you with anything econ related, he even edited an econ article for me. The class is not as hard as every makes it out to be, just do the readings and go to class you will be fine. Most exam material comes from HW and sample exams. He is fair and prepares you.
Engelhardt knows his stuff! He's a very knowledgeable professor. He can make the most difficult Macroeconomic concepts comprehensible. Ask questions! Tap into his head! Keep him talking off script-it's much more interesting that way. At times the lectures are monotonous but it's more the content. Overall, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
His best quality i believe is his clearness on his guidlies. if you fail this class you are seriously pathetic
Pretty easy class with the best curve ever in college... went from what a normal C- would be to having a B+ and barely ever went to class... but class was fun, u can tell he loves his subject, and he has fun bowties. If ur a business major and need an econ option... this is the class to take with this prof
Engelhardt is one of the better professors I've had. He's so theatric with his lively hand gestures that even boring topics aren't bad to listen to. He truely wants his students to understand his lessons and goes above the norm to make things easier on everyone. Everytime he wore his bowtie it made me smile.
Great teacher. Really interested in teaching and had a lot of knowledge about the subject. Always explained concepts until they were clearly understood. Would definitely recommend him to anyone.
Lucas is a really nice guy. He is very helpful and gets back to your emails right away. The lectures were pretty boring and not necessary to go to because he gives out an outline for each lecture. He gives you all the info you need to do all the assignments. Overall, the class was easy.
Pretty solid teacher, good at explaining difficult concepts and always happy to help.
Great Prof. Knows the subject very well and is enthusiastic about teaching it. He also enjoys pacing across the classroom and scratching behind his ear (nervous tick?). Besides that, he knows what he's doing and is fair with his grading.
Very fair professor; do the work adequately and you'll get a good grade. Attending class and buying the book are optional since lecture outlines are online. Very passionate about economics and wants students to learn. Final was slightly difficult, but not too bad if you prepared for it. Gave out essay prompts in advance. Overall, awesome professor.
Great professor, very fair and always willing to help. I learned a lot from him, but you do not necessarily have to go to class(he is interesting to listen to sometimes). Overall just wants you to understand and learn the material. I would definitely take another class with him and would recommend him to anyone.
LUCAS IS SIMPLY.....THE BEST EVER. HE KNOWS WHAT HE IS TEACHING, IS VERY RESPECTFUL, DRESSES UP NICE ALL THE TIME, GOOD IN GRADING. I WILL GRADUATE SOON BUT WILL NEVER FORGET HIM. HE IS THE TOP OF THE LIST OF THE BEST PROFESSORS I EVER HAD. I EXTREMELY RECOMMEND HIM.
Lucas is a great teacher.. As long as you go to class you should do well. Has quizzes but he pretty much give you answers to them. If you do better on the final then midterm he counts it as double.. Overall great teacher!
Lucas is a great teacher. It was great to have a professor who actually cared about his students. The class assignments were not too difficult, and if you went to office hours he would gladly answer any questions. Kinda quirky and weird, his sense of teacher was terrific.
Gives you everything you need for a good grade, just need to study a little bit and definitely do the homework. Nice guy, passionate about what he teaches and fair.
Class wasn't the easiest and its tough to always follow along but hes willing to help if you need it
Great teacher. Do not buy the book. Tests on hw (which answers are given) and what he lectures on. Best Econ teacher I have had at OSU!
Lucas's enthusiasm is unrivaled from a teaching perspective. My only complaint is he made the class too easy. By providing solutions to all the homeworks (which were subsequently quizzed and tested on) it was easy graze over the material with little thought. That is OK for some students, but it's not the best way to actually learn the material.
He's a great teacher. Extremely clear, concise, and entertaining. Complaint is that he made the class a bit 'too' easy. Lucas I know you will read this, so my suggestion is to not give the answers to the homework. It sort of turned the class into a memorization game
This prof is the BEST EVER!!!!!You will not regret at all.
This prof is the BEST. No dbout at all. This prof is def the prof you guys should take. SO nice so laid back easy grader.
lucas is by far the best teacher in the economics dept. class was very interesting and he knew everything! willing to help each and every student. very passionate about teaching. Quirky in a good way with a sense of humor. If you do the homework and pay attention you will do fine! He will double your final if your midterm was bad. BEST
Real Cool Cat. Very energtic and always willing to help. If the class is hard he does everything in his power to pass you.
The best professor I have had - ever. Very knowledgeable and very passionate about his subject. Crazy sense of humor. As long as you do the homework, quizzes will be easy. Midterm and final required a bit more work. Definitely one of the best classes I've taken.
great teacher if he is teaching the class its almost guaranteed to be a good class. Would highly recommend taking any class he teaches
One of the better Economics teachers I've had. I was able to pay attention more...but that may be because he scurries across the room for the entire class; he's enthusiastic about it! The only "negative" comment I can come up with is don't expect to leave class early or take any breaks because he loves to teach and uses the entire class time.
Incredibly nice and helpful; very passionate and just outright fantastic at teaching. Very good at relating concepts to real life examples. It's very much a lecture class, but more room for discussion than with most. One of my favorite teachers at OSU.
He is definitely the real deal as a professor...from his approchability and uber-friendly demeanor to the rigor of his course. His exams (1 midterm and 1 final) are quite tough, and not easy to prepare for, since he does not provide any "sample exam" or anything like that...but there is a ginormous curve. TAKE HIS CLASS!
Lucas was a entertaining teacher to learn from. He was very helpful when asked quesstions. He makes it clear that the class is not easy, but at the same time he gives you the resources to understand the material. He is a funny, entertaining that helps you understand the info. I would recommend him to fellow students!
class can get confusing but he is a tremendous help when you go to his office hours.
One of the best teachers I have ever had! His passion for teaching is so refreshing and he is super helpful. The material is tough but going to his office hours is a huge help!
Awesome and knowledgeable teacher. By far the best in the econ department. Lucas makes the class fun and entertaining. Class isn't easy, but if you need help Lucas is more than willing. Hoping he continues to teach at OSU. Highly recommend!!
Difficult course - he's very clear about explaining the material. so you think you know it better than you really do. also, there was a bonus option and I didnt really realize it until it was too late - keep your eyes open for that - just in case.
Awesome teacher and dapper dresser. The guy is also a great speaker.
This guy loves to teach, and cares about what he is doing. His office hours are immensely helpful. Unfortunately, after he gets his PHD (which should be at the end of Spring quarter) he will probably leave OSU, so hurry up and get a class with him while you can!
He is very helpful on the homework assignments and will spend the time helping you understand it. The multiple choice is extremely hard. The application of class material applied to the questions on the test seemed very abstract and was the most difficult. The grading and weight of the material was appropiate. Enjoyed the class!!!!
One of my favorite professors I have ever had in my several years and many major changes at OSU. If I could take every class from him, I definitely would. Work hard for him and he will do his best to help you succeed.
This teacher uses power point for lecture, never use textbook. and he gives minute paper during class and end of class, so he checks attendance.his class is very funny and helpful. I learned a lot from him. I absolutely recommend him:)
One of my best professors yet! Soooo nice! And really cute humor. Definitely knows what he's talking about, always willing to help, fair grader. If you don't love him, you're crazy.
Lucas is by far the most interesting Econ teacher at OSU. He doesn't "take attendance" but does have you hand in a short answer question about the lecture for participation. His enthusiasm makes you want to learn and keeps you engaged in class. If you go regularly and do some of the readings the class is very easy. I strongly recommend him!
Dude is a good guy, fair grader, interesting, no midterm! He is definitely in my top professors so far i highly recommend him. O ya and dude LOVES his water
Great guy, knows what he is teaching.I will recommend any class he is teaching.!
Excellent teacher, knows and truly loves what he's teaching, very approachable and helpful. As long as you go to class and pay attention, you should do fine. Recommend any class he's teaching.
Very helpful teacher. Pretty easy when it comes to grading
Smart guy, very tech savvy and his external interests complement the lectures well.
He's a great professor. Obviously really passionate about the subject and interested in teaching. Easily my favorite professor in the econ department.
This is the second time i have had Lucas-as far as an econ teacher he is great
Great teacher! always helpful and caring to his students. If you like to think, he will reward you. congrats on the PHD dr Lucas.
He's a very passionate teacher and always gives interesting examples. His in class activities are actually pretty fun and helpful. His lectures are word for word from the book-which makes it kind of boring if you read the book. He does take some attendance but its random. I would definitely take a class taught by him again.
Very interesting class... gets opinion from the class, and is not just throwing facts at you. Gives you a lot of freedom on what you want to write about. Would highly recommend taking a class taught by him.
