Absolutely brilliant teacher. She's very willing to help you with difficulties in your homework, and is really funny and personable. Gives great Power Point presentations...you never thought they could be effective in math. AND she gives out candy in class too. How cool is that?
Good teacher. Only drawback is that majority of teaching is done on powerpoint which can be confusing in a math class. She does do some example problems on board after lecture which is helpful.
she is not helpful at all. when you ask her a question one-to-one, she looks at you like if you are stupid and just makes you feel bad for not understanding the material.
I agree with the happy face. She helped me with HW more than once. She also goes over HW problems on the board. She explains things and aks u if u understand. She postponed one test when the class asked her to, and went over stuff again. She also gave us donuts before the exam:)
She is very rude to students. I heard her telling a student to just "drop" the class. Very rude lady. She doesn't understand students so students probably don't understand her. Her accent is also very annoying and she will not hesitate to yell condescending comments to students.
I like her. She's funny, her accent is not bad at all. She gives u study guides and practice exams before every exam. She also gives u handouts with all the formulas 2 use on the exams. If u have questions, just go to her office and she'll help you. She gives credit for HW and participation.
She's OK. Grades fair. Take her.
Professor Riderer is a excellent teacher. She is very fair in her grading and very helpful on answering any questions you might have on HW or any other math problems . She explains everything thoroughly and even has shown the class shortcuts that the class book does not explain. I am disappointed that she will not be teaching math 130 .
She was a good teacher. I believe i passed with a B or A. Her accent isnt that bad either so you'll understand her. take her because she grades fair.
I feel like I learned a lot in her class.the notebook she gavex-tra credit for, helped me get a B on the final, and so i eneded up with an A in the class!
great prof.! teaches with great clarity! makes the class really easy to understand, and her handouts are so useful. one thing i didn't like was that she always talks about physics!
Great teacher. Funny and easy to talk to. Answers homework questions every class period and is always there to help out of class as well.
grades homework like this: she picks a problem, if that problem is wrong then your whole assignment is a zero! I once did 99 problems and got a zero on the assignment. She gives practice tests but tricks you when the real test comes. She gives participation points and an extra credit folder at the end. and alos drops 2 quiz scores, and drops a test
terrible experience. she does not clarify, she moves extremly fast and will lecture you like a little kid. she took math 150 too serious and graded to hard for a non transferable class. math nazi. i have never had to struggle in math. i barely got a c...i rather drop out of school then take her again! aye.
I am in her Trig class right now. She is going fast, but her lectures are clear. If u have ? just ask, she'll stop and answer. I like the ppts, they are very visual. Good examples, easy to follow. So far I am getting an A in class. Oh, and I liked the outdoor activity!
i guess you must b very unlucky 2 get the only problems she grades wrong.but then, don't blame her; its yor fault! I love her class, she's so helpful; her handouts make everything easy, and she always answers all questions, gives us time 2 go over HW before its turned in. I am pretty sure I'll land an A!
very easy class. all her lessons are pre planned on power point. plus she is bomb
I took her in the summer and hated her class. She is a good teacher, but for some reason the powerpoints don't do it for me. They allow her to move way to fast because all she has to do is click to the next slide. :( She is a good techer though, very professional. Better than the other choice for trig...trust me!
you will not learn anything with her. very unclear!!! uses power point but goes way to fast. NOT HELPFUL
In the beginning of the semester, I thought she was going to be a pain to be a student for. As the semester went on i learned so much. She makes things so you can undrstand them. She doesn't expect you to remember formulas off the bat.
Her tests are ridiculously easy. She gives you the problems beforehand. She sometimes goes too fast in lecture, and is at times unclear. However she is always there to help when you need it. Just don't fall asleep in her class!!!!!
She is rude and always thinks that her ways are always right. Interrupts a lot when I tried to explain my way. Very inapproachable. Lectures are powerpoints and unclear and fast. I don't recommend her at all. Take others.
Prof. Riderer is a good teacher. She's fair, you always know what kind of problems you'll have on the exams. She's also funny, and always there to help. Her ppts. can be fast at times, but she'll always stop to explain things and answer questions.
she's unclear and can be mean at times, especially when i go to her to ask about the handed back quizzes or exams. and even more annoying is that she'll put sad smileys when i got my problems wrong. she's also pretty bad with partial credits. sometimes my work was close but i made mistake algebraically and i got not a single point. don't take her.
She teaches with powerpoint presentations, which make it difficult to understand and follow. She rushes a lot! And she is brutal with the grading. Not recommended.
Ms. Riderer is a tough professor; however, her power point are quite clear. I find it easier to understand than reading the book. She is tough but if you are willing to do hw, you should be fine. Don't expect an easy way out because she teaches and don't waste time with useless subject. Take her only if you really want to learn and is serious!
I LIKED HER AND HAVE RECOMMENDED HER TO FRIENDS WHO ALSO LIKED HER. YES, A QUITE SNOOTY-KNOW-IT-ALL AND DOES MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE AN IDIOT. SHE WILL DROP YOU FOR BAD ATTENDANCE. WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING! SHE GIVES YOU OUTLINES BEFORE EVERY TEST TO STUDY OFF THAT WERE EXACTLY LIKE THE TEST. HARD GRADER BUT EXPLAINED VERY THOROUGH!
great teacher. took her and ended up actually liking trig. powerpoint lectures, so it's easy to get all the notes. her notes help you with everything. gives practice exams that are just like the exams. as long as you show up everyday, take notes, and study you'll do fine.
I absolutely loved her!She uses powerpoints, always stops when you asked her to, and gives you a list of problems similar to the ones on the exam. Helpful during office hours! Made the class easy. All you need to do is go to class, take notes and do your HW. Also gave X-tra credit just to keep a notebook.Take her.
She is a very good professor. I learned a lot in her class. If yuo do your HW and study the practice exams, you can get a good grade. make sure you go to class and be on time.
I enjoyed taking her class. It is not an easy class, and you have to do HW and pay attention when she explains the problems, but she was never tricky. She was also very helpful during office hours. Did not have to memorize all the formulas, she gave out handouts that helped a lot on tests. Take her if you wanna learn trig & are willing to do the wo
She is a wonderful teacher. I had her for 2 semesters and she is so helpful. Really smart teacher and she really cares about her students. Her class isnt hard, just pay attention and do ur homework.
Great Teacher! Very Helpful!
Great Teacher!
I love her. If she taught Math 150, I would take her next semester. She explains things well and is very energetic. Do your homework and pass the tests and you will do fine.
Lectures are from powerpoint but she does do in class work. She's very helpful and easy to understand. Her accent is not that thick and she speaks English very well! So don't let that deter you from taking her class! I really enjoyed this trig course! Mulţumesc, Dna. Riderer!
Incredibly helpful. Wants to see her students succeed. She allows you to use some of her handouts during quizzes, and tries to make the subject as clear as possible. definitely take her!!
She is a great math. teacher. She gives classwork every lessons, but they're not so hard. Homework is ok.
not super easy, but if you attend class and ask questions you will pass! i suck at mth and i still managed to get an A just by paying attention in her class! she does explain things very well!
She is a good teacher but she lacks college experience. She is a former high school teacher. However, this is junior college and heed this advice. ONE MAY NEED TO HAVE THOSE FORMULAE MEMORIZED IF YOU PLAN ON A MATH RELATED MAJOR AFTER YOU HAVE TRANSFERRED TO A UNIVERSITY.
Great teacher. The lectures are on powerpoint and are very easy to understand. She makes sure you understand the concepts before you go home at the end of the day. I guarantee her classes to any Citrus College math student, whether you have an interest in the maths or not.
she is the best!!!!
What the heck is that comment at the bottom about her not having college experience? She is a very good college professor. and what is that person talking about needing to memorize formulas when they're only in math190. lol.
Really good professor, period. What the hell is that Math 130 guy talking about. He doesn't know anything about math. She has a lot of experience and you don't need to memorize anything. lol. Get to Calc III and find out what I'm talking about.
she is a great teacher! If you don't like math or your really bad at it she is a good teacher to have. Her lectures are easy to understand, she makes sure you get the material before you go home. She has an accent but you still understand her & she is entertaining, she def. has a sense of humor. You won't regret taking her class!
Best teacher ever! She wants everyone to succeed and understand, a good hearted women.
shes awesome! enough said. she lets you use handouts on the exams and quizzes which is really helpful. shes not hard to understand at all. she has a slight romanian accent which she makes fun of all the time. overall one of the best teachers iv had
Best teacher ever!! The most helpful teacher I have ever had. Explains everything until you get it and gives the best reviews before a test so there is no way you can fail!
She is awesome and very helpful. I love her class. Regarding her accent problem, I'm able understand her word easily even I'm not a native English speaker.
Nice lady. Very willing to answer questions in class and during office hours. I still needed a tutor. Attendance important and enforced. I would recommend her to anyone.
For me, SHE IS THE BEST IN CITRUS COLLEGE!!!! treasure in the math department and citrus college!!! compare to other math professor, i can say that she has much passion than anybody! however, it is no way to get C, D or F in her class. becuz she has well explaining in concepts.
Awesome teacher. I struggled w/ calculus in previous classes, but she makes it easy to understand and makes you spend class time working on problems, checking it afterwards so that she knows you know what you're doing. Drops lowest quiz and gives a lot of extra credit. Homework due each week and attendance is mandatory. Test problems are like the H
This teacher is Awesome. There is no way that you fail this class or even get a C. 5 Quizzes account for 40% of your grade but she drops the lowest of the 5. If you complete the homework (hw is 20% of your grade)and understand it than you will fly by the quiz. She also teaches the material really well. Take this teacher, best math teacher in Citrus
By far, the most talented instructor I have ever had.
good, great, u won't go wrong. got over 100% at the end of the class, one of the best at citrus.
I absolutely love her! Best teacher at Citrus! Explains everything until you get it, Always available for help; tests are fair, and extra credit available. You will feel that you're learning in her class! Nice personalty also. Can't wait to take her for Calc3.
I've always hated math, but this teacher is just awesome and she made my most hated subject easy. She is also really sexy, and I'm a chick.
She is great and helpful and she helps you out if you are willing to get a better grade. Sometimes lots of HW but she helps you out if you get stuck on some problems.
Great professor! Very very helpful.
I had not taken Algebra in over 20 years..this teacher brought it all back and then some. She is an excellent teacher, homework is not overwhelming. She expalains everything very well and really cares that you get a good grade. She is willing to help in whatever way she can but expects you to do your part. Can't say enough...she was outstanding!
She is one of the best math professors at citrus college. She will help you when you ask for it, and she explains everything very well and she is organized. And she is also easy on the eyes =) hehe I recomend taking her class.
she is an awsome teacher i love her she is so helpful she cares about her students and she is very organized she stays on track and does not fall behind like mr everest
Can't get any better. Sassy lady, I would love to take her again. She makes sure you know what you're doing before going to the next lesson. Steezy too, might I add.
OF COURSE THE MATERIAL FOR CALCULUS 3 IS DIFFICULT. I DIDN'T LIKE THAT SHE TAUGHT ON POWERPOINT, I FOUND MYSELF NOT REALLY PAYING ATTENTION, BUT THE HANDOUTS WERE CONVENIENT. I DIDN'T LIKE THE REVIEWS FOR TEST, THEY WERE WAY TOO EASY. DON'T GET ME WRONG SHE'S A WONDERFUL LADY, LOVED HER AS A PERSON, OK AS A TEACHER. RECOMENDED!!!
I took her over the summer and she is extremely helpful. She explains whatever you don't get from her powerpoint lectures. She gives handouts to use on the quizzes and tests and they are VERY helpful. Don't be late to class though because she does not take to that very well. Grades fair and makes math fun!
SO, i swear i had never A'z a math test before!!! :) she's great and believes in you, if you try. heads up, she WILL drop you if you are absent one too many times. other then that she's a very understandable teacher :)
An AWESOME professor! She genuinely cares about her students. She teaches with a mixture of powerpoint lectures and working on the board. She explains everything crystal clear and will help you understand if you don't get it. She also goes over homework questions when time allows.
awesome teacher!!!very helpful!!! I took her over winter and I was worried I wont be able to do it but she teaches so well it was so easy to understand.her teaching methods are very good and she makes sure you understand everything before moving on to the next lesson, helps with homework too and give you handouts.she's also very funny !
DONT KNOW WHY THIS TEACHER HAS SUCH GREAT REVIEWS, WORST TEACHER I HAVE TAKEN YET AT CITRUS!!!!! IF YOUR NOT INTERESTED IN CAL THEN DONT TAKE HER, TRUST ME. GRADES VERY UNFAIR ON TEST, TAKES HUGE POINTS OFF FOR TINY MISTAKES... TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TEACHER. BETTER OFF TAKING SOME ONE ELSE
She is the best math professor on campus and is very helpful. Some reviews state that she is not helpful and rude, that is only if YOU as a student are rude to her.
If you want an easy A don't take her. But if you want to learn and earn your A definitely take her. You will learn so much, she will empower you with a math gift. Her lessons are extremely easy to understands because she assumes no knowledge which is a good thing for some of you.
Ive had her for several classes now but honestly I dont know what happened to her. Her final was RIDICULOUS & she made this class extra hard just cuz some students in there were above & beyond smart which really wasnt fair for the rest of us. she also has no sense of humor now and gets upset when u try to joke with her.. in short, very dissapointed
Great professors, very helpful! Her tests were difficult and I had to do a lot of studying. Take her if you have a lot of time on your hands. She explains her subject well but I just wish she could relate some of the concepts to the actual world. Youtube videos were extremely helpful! Got an A and I don't even like Math (love Physics though).
I had her for both calc2 and 3. In calc 2 I got my A relatively easy:paying attention in class, doing HW and going to workshops. In Calc 3 I worked VERY hard, studied a lot, went to ALL workshops and sometimes her office hours, do more problems than assigned. I feel that I definitely worked for and desreved my A.
Awesome professor! Fast class in the summer, lots of HW, but she goes over hw? everyday. Explains all concepts in detail, goes over problems step by step, attendance is mandatory. If you pay attention in class, do all HW, you should not have trouble passing her class. Handouts are helpful, some memorization is still required. Highly recommended.
she is an ok teacher, the only thing is she gets frustrated when you dont understand something and just moves on. she expects you to get help outside of class instead of asking her questions, she does not go over any tests so you never learn how to do the problem, and she takes alot of points off for small mistakes which cause you to fail a test. t
I took my Cal2 and Cal2 with Prof.Riderer. Actually I really like her teaching methods. She is very helpful and alway try to help me. Her lecture is very clear. Highly recommended.Prosfessor Riderer, you did a excellent job. Thank you very much.
amazing teacher. Provides easy to follow slides and handouts with relate-able scenarios. She doesnt just give you your grade you have to earn them. if you dont understand something let her know, she will help you!
Professor Riderer is a wonderful teacher. I took Calc2 with her in the summer and she does not let you go home until you show her the correct answer on a practice problem. She is genuinely interested in seeing that all her students understand the material, even if she must go out of her way. My math professors at USC would never do that
I really enjoyed this class! I feel like I learned a lot and I am well prepared to move to the next level. Thank you, professor Riderer! You're the best!
This professor made Physics easy to understand and fun. I especially enjoyed the mouse trap car project! The Physics in the movies was OK, also. We had two exams, a lot of short quizzes and a HW notebook due at the end. All together, a good class; the lab wasn't that bad either.I might take to more advanced physics in the future.
Somewhat difficult class (but maybe that's just calc 2 in general), very good teacher, moderately helpful. overall: hard but fair. Recommended for overachievers and people with above average intelligence.
Challenging class, but this professor explains concepts very well. She doesn't go over HW questions in class, but has all HW problems assigned solved in detail and you have access to her solutions every day (she brings them to class. You can ask questions in workshop and if you go to her office hours.
Took for short Summer Semester 2011. Had a GREAT time with my first class back to school after 17 years. Learned a GREAT deal. Struggled a bit with the Math concepts, but she gave excellent help with mentors and tutoring opportunities. Will definitely be taking her again for Fall 2012
She is not that good teacher.
A great teacher who really cares about her students succeeding. She offers extra credit which could really help you out, which is good because her test are difficult and accumulate 50% of your grade. Recommend her though, just make sure to put in the effort.
One of the best math teachers I have ever had. Helped me enjoy math again after years of awful teachers. She demands high standards from her class but with a genuine interest in helping them. At the beginning of class she gives everyone a chance to tell her what they expect from the class and she does her best to meet the requests.
Great teacher! She expects a lot so don't be lazy! She's very particular about quizzes and how she wants work done, so pay attention! She cares about her students and wants them to do well. Don't be scared of her, her bark is bigger than her bite!
My favorite instructor. Very clear in all areas. Strict on following directions and attendance. Very intelligent and prepared instructor. Awesome.
Her class was the most challenging I've ever had. She goes over the material really well. She is a good professor for people who like being intellectually challenged. However, she had a habit of condescending people who didn't do well in her class. She didn't help much in her office hours. Some people can't think like a physicist.Tests were hard.
She is a excellent teacher.... Her test are not Hard but also not easy ..... Study her review exams cause some questions are similar to her exams and try to do all the extra credit as possible .... I got a B in her class but honestly I thought that I was going to get a C or a D cause her Final for me was the hardest of all her exams because it was cumulative of everything we had learned
She's a great professor and goes over everything in the test. I got a B, but could have gotten an A if I actually studied for tests. Tough on grading tests
Professor Riderer is a wonderful teacher. She is very strict and has high expectations, but she is teaching you everything you need to know to get a good grade in class. Study her reviews for exams and put some effort in the lab reports. Don't miss class cause she's solving problems on the board that aren't on the slides on BB.
I loved her! Summer class, fast paced. She explains things very well; study her powerpoints and review the problems she works out on the board.
She used to be my Physics teacher in Romania, 24 years ago, when I was in my first year of High School. She was right after her Graduation and all I can say is that she was the best Physics teacher I ever had.I am happy she is now appreciated here in USA!
she was a great teacher... theres really not much else to say, even when you piss her off shes funny without embarrassing you too much, loved her class looking forward to 200 lvl physics!!!
Really great teacher just hard material. Would only take this class if you're interested in the subject or applies to your major. Suggestion: keep up on the hw and find people in the class you can study with. It will pay off in the end.
I really love her! By far the BEST professor at Citrus. I had her for Elementary Algebra, Trigonometry, & Physics. If you really want to learn take her otherwise don't waste her time. Also, SHOW HER RESPECT!!! DON'T TXT OR TALK AND INTERRUPT HER SHE WILL CALL YOU OUT!! She really wants her students to succeed and is willing to help you after class.
I had a great time in this class. The exams were neither too hard nor to easy. The reviews were helpful. You must keep up with the HW even and go to workshops to work with others. Also, make sure you don't miss class cause she solves the problems on the board step by step, and you don't have that in the ppts posted on BB. Good teacher. Fair grading
The best teacher for physics. I will take it again. She explain very well because of that the class is not hard. Very cool professor. Fun class. Will take it again.
On the plus side she is truly a great instructor on the negative side you have to take Ramos for lab. She is clear about physics and will go over the problem step by step. She gives you a lot of help.
by far the freakin best professor i have ever had in my 28 years of life! I recommend her 1000% she is truly an amazing professor!
I truly enjoyed her class. Her lectures were crystal clear, and she was also clear about what she expected of us. I enjoyed the labs and the toy project, and i feel that i learned a lot and i am ready to move on to my next level of physics and math. You should not hesitate to take her. She's the best instructor I ever had in a math or science class
hit & miss. she cares about your education & wants u to learn. that being said, she also thinks critically towards everything u say or ask, so think before speaking. she also tracks your attendance/tardiness like a preschool teacher. for a calc-based course, it was also disappointing how little calc was covered. ok teacher, but watch her temper.
I think she is a fair professor. She tells you ahead of time what her expectations are and if you do what she expects you shojld have no trouble getting an A. The homework is from the textbook only, nothing online, and she gives reviews before each exam. Also you have the possibility to earn extra credit easy. Good sense of humor. I recommed her.
I think she is one of the best intructors at Citrus. Her lectures are clear and her exams not too hard. She clearly cares about her students. Make sure you take good notes cause some of the exam problems are very much like the ones she solves on the board.
In essence Professor Riderer is very caring instructor that is willing to go that extra mile for her students. Also, if you have a question she tries her very best to explain and gives great examples!
Very tough professor but she just wants you to pass. Do not ever use your cell phone during her lectures or arrive late to class, she will call you out and totally embarrass you. I've seen it happen to plenty of students and they dropped out. Kind of fun to watch when you have her for 3 hours. She rarely lets you out of class early.
I obtained the textbook during winter break since I've never even touched the topic of physics. I read 3 chapters and was starting to feel like i was in over my head. Once class started, she covered what I read within THREE DAYS, and explained it in a way that just made everything "click". We're wrapping up the semester and I have a high A thus far
I really enjoyed this class. Professor Riderer explained all concepts clearly and gave good reviews before every exam. She is a fair grader and gives extra credit. Do not miss class or you will fall behind and it will cost you your grade on the midterm. Also don't be late or sleep in class. She really cares about you and will answer questions when
Before taking Professor Riderer's class, I had already had a bad experience with physics in high school (horrible teacher) and was understandably nervous. But Riderer turned out to be one of the few professors who can actually properly explain physics without sounding condescending. If you put in the effort and are a decent student, you'll do well
She was clear in her instruction but not willing to help students. Her definition of helping students is scrutinizing them and telling us we are unable to do anything. She feels since she teaches well that she has no obligation to help a confused student. She constantly compares her experiences with student experiences. There is no comparison.
Very condescending lady. I took her class in 2014 and made an A so this is not a "sour grapes" revenge review. She failed to make office hours on time so we never met. She demands respect from you and gives very little respect back. Scrutinizes your every word but she cuts you off when you scrutinize her words. True sign of weak character overall.
She has her lesson planned & if you ask a question that changes her lesson plan she wont answer them. She isnt good at explaining things. Just do all the extra credit and you'll pass. If you have the option I'd take this class elsewhere...
Winter class. It was a hard challenge to be honest. I finished the class with a B, it was not easy. Riderer is nice in lecture as long as you pay attention and aren't afraid to answer out loud. She's intimidating yes but try not to let it get to you. STUDY,STUDY,STUDY!!! DO NOT TAKE IT LIGHTLY!!!
As a Physics major, it was really discerning to see such a woman who has no concern for the welfare of her students. She is consistently condescending and rude to her students. This is your only option though; the Physics department here at Citrus is far from mediocre. Best of luck to you, do not let her ruin the subject material for you!
Riderer does things like: grade term papers according to a strict rubric that she doesn't hand out, belittle someone for twenty minutes for being ten minutes late to the lab, doesn't give clear directions for the material she assigns, and fails to deliver when she says she might give extra credit. She actually made learning physics more difficult.
Very organized professor. Midterms are medium difficulty level. Grading is on a strict rubric. Extra credit is possible in lab and class project. Must practice a lot and supplement lecture with online presentations for a better understanding of the material. Overall a good class that prepared me for the next level in Physics.
Professor Riderer is thebest and I highly recommend you take her for 201. The class consists of 3 midterms, a final, labs, and a research paper which are all very doable. The only reason she is strict at times is because she cares about you as a person and because she wants you to succeed at life. BA in physics, MA in math, PHD in education, AMAZIN
Riderer is tough on her students, but she does it to help them succeed. She is really good at teaching and very clear during her lectures. Do the homework and takes notes, it'll help a lot on the exams. And if you think you might struggle in this class, do as much of the extra credit as you can for the project.
Compared to Calculus-based mechanics classes offered elsewhere (like Open Course classes online) or at larger institutions, this class is a breeze. If you want to learn from a rigorous course, go somewhere else. If you want a teaching assistant who cares more about the length of vectors and drawing pretty diagrams, then this is the class for you.
Riderer was an inspiration to me. Before taking her I found physics very hard to understand and never knew how to even start solving a problem. Her lectures were crystal clear. She always explains every step of the problem. Her grading was tough, but if you pay attention to the hints she drops in lecture you will be fine.
The hardest part of the class is the lab(research project). The tests are not hard. Just practice similar problems she does in class and read the book.
I took the class in the summer. Fast paced and lots of info in a short amount of time. However, Riderer gave very good lectures, showing and explaining the solutions thoroughly. I spent several hours every week to review her slides, do the homework and read the book, but it paid off in the end, as I ended up getting a high B in class.
Lectures are crystal clear, even though sometimes fast paced. She returns exams promptly and posts grades on canvas often. Tough grader, but the grading criteria is clear and she tells you exactly how she wants the work done. Half of the labs are easy, as she grades the reports at the end of lab, and gives you the chance to fix your mistakes.
For schools that require strong foundational knowledge in physics, this is not the right professor. If you plan to go to a top institution where you will live/breathe integrals/derivatives, this class is not for you. It's fine if you want watered down physics. Just look at engineering practice tests from top UCs compared to mid tiers. night and day
I took her class in the winter intersession. It was fast paced, with a ton of information presented every day. She solves many problems in lecture, make sure you copy her work carefully (better yet, take a pic of the board before she erases it). She's very picky on how you show your work on the exams, so make sure you label and check the vectors.
Questionable.
Grades way too strict
You lost me as student. Sorry.
You lost my respect for you. Sorry.
You lost me as a student. Sorry, but nice try Riderer:((
Unhappy hour is from 11am to 7pm:(
Took this course during the summer. It was an intense 6-weeks and only the strong-willed survive. This class will definitely make you second guess your major. Life is not easy, so why should this class be? Show up on time, be respectful, and STUDY. The only advice I needed was to take the class more serious. It became real after the 3rd week mark.
Nope!!
Dr. Lucia Riderer is a condescending and rude person. She even got into heated arguments with students who were lost and were trying to seek help. Many times she gets angry and belligerent quite easily and frequently during lecture and lab. Point is ok class, lots of homework but angry person and picky grader on tests/quizzes/homework so watch out.
I learned next to nothing from Dr. Lucia Riderer. She is very rude and condescending, which seriously interferes with peoples opportunity to learn physics. Physics used to be my favorite subject. She ruined it for me. I will never ever take physics again because of her.
I learned next to nothing. I ended up seeing that physics department is one of the worst departments at Citrus College. The only thing I ever learned from Dr. Lucia Riderer is that I do not want to be a civil engineer or in any STEM fields. She ruined/spoiled it for me.
I just do not recommend Riderer for Physics, especially in the 6 week summer session bc its too fast and she crams at least 1 chapter or 2 everyday and you will learn nothing just bc the pace is way too fast and rigorous. Better to take physics elsewhere and during the Fall or Spring Semesters not 6-week Winter or 6 week Summer Sessions
I took her for a Summer, I was expecting the class to be much harder, but she legit tells you what's on the exam. She does all the problems with the class and her review multiple choice is almost identical to her test. I don't know why people have negative reviews if you have trouble in this class good luck when you transfer.
This Professor has no patience with students, bad attitude, made class way harder than what it needs to be.
She knows if you are lazy or work smart. She said time is money, if you are slow thinker, cheat, or lazy, thatll provoke her rage yelling. That includes using online answers like Chegg or Yahoo Answers. She knows if you are lazy or Cheggd/Yahoo Answerd it to cheat if you dont show work her way or are slow. So dont do that or she will zap you.
Prior to SARS-CoV-2 quarantine, Dr. Lucia Riderer was not that great. If you are reading this comment, I hope you will tell us (by writing another review on Rate My Professor for this professor) about how she was during the transition to online learning and what she is like after lockdown due to the pandemic.
Skip class, you won't pass, late for one minute & don't follow directions. She's gonna kill you. You gotta do things her way, gotta write neat, good impression is crucial. MCs are easy, then there are two long problems, be careful on those. HW due at end of semesters. Lab are pretty fun. Instructions are usually clear, A LOT of them tho.
Professor Riderer is a great lecturer. She is a tough grader, and she don't mess around. If she gives you a hint or tells to do something a specific way DO IT. This class was very challenging for me, but I also learned a lot. She is always willing to help students as long as they are working hard and trying their best.
No thanks. If you take this class, its her way or the highway. Showing work is basically its my way or the highway. I thought she was way too strict when she said just one thing not done her way is zero credit. Because of the nature of this class, obviously regurgitation is not enough. If you just rely on regurgitation, you fail the exams/class!
Professor Riderer is an amazing Professor who will really try push you into the direction of greatness. She will hold you to very high expectations, as you should for yourself. If you get an A in professor Riderers class, you will have something to show for it. I would recommend her to anyone who is serious about their education.
Honestly, Riderers physics is all watered down and useless regardless if you get an A, yet she makes class too hard and grades too hard!! Not to mention, its very easy to get an F in the class!! You will learn nothing from her!! Avoid her please!!
Honestly, she nags like she is your mom, which is very annoying to say the least. Her attitude needs improvement.
Grades super hard. Things have to be done specifically her way and no other way is allowed.
Skip class, you won't pass, late for one minute & don't follow directions, she will chew you out. If you do not show work her way (is her way or the highway), write messy, she will chew you out. Overall, not recommended especially for first time freshmen straight out of high school.
Rating her a 4 for being the best Citrus physics professor (keep in mind the physics department here is horrible). Her biggest pro is she grades assignments quick and replies quickly to emails. Now her cons: her lectures do not prepare you well enough for her quizzes/exams. Also, she wants things done her way, no other way or she takes away points
A very heavy class. Lectures are mostly in the form of presentations with audio and YouTube videos. I recommend taking notes, at least for the YouTube videos so you have a single place you can check for the formulas/diagrams. Good luck.
Professor Riderer is very strict and I will admit it's not an easy class. Out of everyone in the physics department, I would say that she is the best one even though our physics department isn't good. Gives extra credit towards the end of the semester and if you need help and extra attention she's very understanding.
She did not how to teach! She did not know how important a live lecture will be for students! She posted her videos over there. But she did not realized that watching the video is totally different from giving a live lecture! Anyone can give a live lecture through zoom! So she did not realize what her responsibility as a teacher should be!
She has been a teacher for many years, however she didn't know how to teach! She give a Exam 1 Wrapper with poor-quality of questions. She didn't how to find out what students are stuck and guide them to master the knowledge. When many students didn't draw diagrams well, she didn't know to record a video to give a summery about common mistakes!
She said she has high expectation for her students! It sounds good! However, who will have low expectation for herself/himself? So EVERYTHING IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY! Teaching yourself is also your responsibility! She even let you tubers to help her to teach! Mrs. Riderer, has you made sure that youtubers have the official teacher licenses???
She makes two set of standards respectively for her and students. She is good at giving excuse for her mistakes. She made many mistakes in her documents. She should know to double check documents before she posted them. She made many mistakes on its and its. At the same time, she did good job at taking points off from students.
This professor is VERY nitpicky with all notation and always switching it up. One question would say to not include units and the next would say include units. This would be regarding the exact same value so there really is no reason to not include units both times aside from having the opportunity to dock points.
Lucia Riderer needs to cut some slacks for students during these COVID-19 times. She needs to have patience with students, and help students who ask. She is more harsh with grading things during COVID than in person and her exams are harder during COVID than in person. I just wish she would cut some slacks for students honestly.
This is the only professor I've ever had the desire to review/vent about. I took this class through the pandemic, and nearly dropped out of college as a whole because of it. Lucia is relentless. Workload is absurd and in an online environment borderline inhumane. Grading is HARSH, no room for error. Heavy assignments due after the final. Avoid.
Riderer has extremely high expectations for her students. This will make the class probably one of the hardest classes you've taken in your life. That being said, she genuinely cares about her students' success. If you struggle, seek her help, or else you will probably fail the exams. The exams are tough and combine multiple concepts.
Just don't take this teacher. Seriously not worth it.
Not understanding at all she grades very harshly and if diagrams are not to her exact specified ways you will lose a lot of points regardless of having the right answer. Does not matter what class days you sign up for because she will have something assigned everyday also I was a Monday class 11:30am-2pm and somehow had midterms fridays 2pm-6pm.
harsh grader and expects you to be perfect, but her homework is similar to her videos and lectures are helpful in understanding the concepts. I'd recommend trying to take a algebra physics instead because riderer and ramos made 201-203 the hardest classes I've ever taken
Would implore you to take your physics classes at another college. The painstaking course-work with this specific professor is beyond unbearable. As you'll need to find outside methods to teach yourself, since the professor doesnt have any live lectures through zoom and prefers to have YouTube videos to teach for her. Just not worth it, good luck.
This course is heavily self-taught and her grading is extremely particular. There is little to no room for error. Her no-excuse policy is unforgivable, even if you work hard and do your best to resolve technical issues. Should you choose to take this class, be sure you have time to find your own material to teach yourself.
The comments left me super scared to take Prof Riderer's class, but she was awesome. No textbook required, she makes videos of the diagrams you'll be tested on, and everything you need is in the PP lectures. She is tough, and when she says she has high expectations, jesus she means it. But you learn so much and she's very supportivejust need to ask
a ball is thrown vertically upward and returns to the ground after 8s. How far did it travel before it reached its peak? This is just an example of 1 poorly written question on a Timed Quiz. Is it 8 seconds downward or 8 s total? Hard to pass when she sets you up for failure. and this is just 1 of many examples so far and i am only 1 week in
I really enjoyed Professor Riderer's class and think she is a nice and very supportive person. She comes off strong but she means well and I learned a lot in her class. I noticed students that expected an easy A were upset with this class, but if you don't mind putting the time and effort in for your grade, you can definitely get an A.
She should really take the time to use more specific wording in exams. Ever heard of proof reading? not fair i had to spend extra time interpreting a badly written question and solving for multiple interpretations and end up not finishing other questions on time. Or the HW q. I spent an hour trying to figure out y im wrong but really its your typo.
Worked my head off for weeks only to end up with a B. Be warned, this prof is an extremely tough grader and expects absolute perfection on every assignment. You'll spend half of the course trying to stay afloat in her condescending feedback sheets and horrible grammar. I highly encourage you to avoid this professor, it's not worth the stress.
Rider seems to think the difficulty of this course should be augmented by her poor organization and confusing instructions. This statement isn't a joke or a prod at her course structure. It is intentional. She will make this course harder than it should be for you. If you need to take physics go to another school.
This prof holds her students to very high standards but doesn't do so for herself. She grades extremely tough, but her online videos are messy, and her instructions are often unclear at times. She isn't willing to make exceptions for her students for most emergencies, instead, she tells you that you should have prepared and planned ahead of time.
Riderer augments the difficulty of physics by imposing harsh and inflexible rules that create a rigid and unforgiving classroom environment. Her instructions on assignments are stringent and exceedingly particular; the smallest mistake will result in an extreme deduction of points. I would describe this professor in 1 word: merciless.
I'm struggling to maintain a B in this class. I usually get straight "A's". The structure of her online-only class is messy at best. I don't think I've ever answered a question requiring calculation wrong. The entire 15% deficit in my grade can be accounted for by arrows not being drawn long enough. I'm spending more time stressing than learning.
A miniscule mistake will cost you a massive deduction of points. A FBD drawn with precision will be faulted for your arrows or vectors being slightly off. All your work must be utterly flawless; if it is perfect, you might only get a few points taken off (you will never get 100% on free response questions). She, however, makes mistakes constantly.
Her grading policy is super strict and doesnt accept late hw and takes ZERO excuses. She has very high expectations for her students. Once I tried to reschedule my midterm, but the only option she gave me was before 6AM to take my exam. I would avoid at all costs, try to take it at another college if possible.
This professor is absolutely crazy. She will dock off points for everything even though you follow the rubric. Her videos and lectures do not help at all with the hw and quizzes. She needs to retire asap. Do not take this class!
First let me begin with the huge deficit in her being a teacher. She does NOT teach. When you ask her a question via email or ask for office hours, she says to need to watch her lectures again and not make demands on how she should teach you. Her grading is so unclear and she changes her grading rubric every assignment based on her "feelings" BEWARE
If you're going to transfer, and your admittance to university depends on this class BEWARE SHE DOES NOT CARE SHE WILL HAPPILY STOP YOU FROM TRANSFERRING
after docking so many points on your assingments she leaves condescending comments on what you did wrong. You'd think that since she's been teaching this course for so long she'd help students on what NOT to do. Makes me question if she even likes her job if she purposely writes trick questions in exams and quizzes
She's is horrible. I've completed all my GE requirement classes including Calc 1 to Calc 3 with all A's and yet I'm struggling to maintain a B in this class already because she has the most insane grading scales ever. She will practically fail you on the exams for not having long enough arrows or some other bizarre reasoning she can come up with.
The class is surprisingly very easy, however there is a massive amount of work to do. Not only that, most of the work doesn't even matter with regards to what your grade is based on. Nearly 100% of the actual physics done in the class is meaningless as this professor is more concerned with the art aspect. Honestly at this point it's an art class.
it's tough reading all the comments here but they're true. I got a B and put way more effort than in classes where I got an A. It's not impossible to get a good grade, but she really can make it feel like it is sometimes. i didnt want to go through applying to another college but it's definitely something id consider for physics. she's crazy
genuinely concerned for her mental health. She has some serious psychological poblems.
She is not very friendly towards DSPS students with disabilities in my honest opinion. She is not very accommodating towards DSPS students and doesnt seem willing extend time on Exams and Quizzes as she had trouble understanding that Source My Experience in Summer 2019
Not very friendly/accommodating/understanding of DSPS disabled students to be honest.
To give you an idea of how insane this teacher is, the 3rd midterm is 2:30 PM to 8:30PM. She also gives you a zero if you're not even exact with the answer she wants and this is a Physics course where answers are almost never exact due to decimal calculations but not with her and nor will she give you partial credit even if you're off by ~0.05
Getting an A is possible. The material itself isn't difficult, the only thing that makes it difficult is the amount of work she assigns, the lack of teaching, and how asinine her grading structure is. I would recommend taking the in-person labs section if you can swing it. If you need help ask your peers, she is very condescending. Good luck.
Take the class somewhere else. Yes, its possible to get a passing grade but if you need that extra help learning and feedback this is not the professor for you. You will not go far in this class if you do well in every other assignment except the midterms. Assignments are worth nothing to your overall grade except the exams. Good luck.
the fact that bad ratings are getting taken down is pretty hilarious
TLDR: Stay away from this nightmare professor, you'll be glad you did. Just take your Physics course at your own college, don't waste your money and time. She has too high expectations for an online course, but her own materials are significantly subpar. If you like being talked down to and receive no substantial feedback, you'll love her.
please do not take this class if you need it to transfer. she will make sure you do not pass so that you do not transfer. please.
run away as fast as you can children
Although she was not the best prof and very condescending at times, succeeding in this class wasn't hard. The bulk of your grade comes from exams, but if you know her diagram format it's a guaranteed A on the written portion. There are a lot of assignments and no late work accepted. Also stay on her nuetral/good side or else this class will be hell
Class is easy to get an A in if you pay attention to details. Follow along exactly with the lectures and do not skip over any pieces of info and you should be fine. There's a lot of work for this class (quiz/hw) but it's doable. The material itself isn't hard as it requires simple calculations, just a lot to sift through.
Her unforgiving grading on insane tests HWs crotchety temper due to her age makes class miserable. Retire PLEASE!!
Her quizzes online are open note, so are the first half of the midterms. The other half of the midterms are done in class, and consist of 2-3 problems where you're graded heavily on how you draw and label your diagrams. Her course is 16 weeks, but all of the material is rushed in 12 weeks. Take the other professor, less work normal pace.
Brutal tests and homework make this class a major struggle. Though the professor can be difficult, using Unstuck study along with the textbook helped me get through it.
Honestly, if you do the work and participate, you'll do great. Just know that her rubric is a little bit strange and it's easy to lose points in areas that don't seem important. Overall, she has high standards for her students, but it's nothing unmanageable. Just be interested and ready to participate.
If you are deeply interested in physics mechanics then take it otherwise consider a different professor, probably the most effort I had to put into a class compared to all the 10+ classes taken at Citrus. Exam and midterm heavy, too brutal on grading like seriously why. If you read this long enough and still wanna take it adhere to her teaching GL.
Yea no just no
She is strict, didn't help at all, and cold as ice. No, just no. Pros: What Pros other than that her last name is Riderer Cons: Everything else. She gives way too much homework. She favors geniuses but hates people who struggle with physics by picking on them and bullying them. She is getting crotchety due to her reaching old age. Retire please.
Very strict on grading, but she outlines her expectations very clearly. An A is very doable, and the final is well-written. Those complaining giving 1s are likely exaggerating in my opinion. It wasn't that bad.
