unreasonable time for papers...gives you 2 days to write a 5+ page papers
she is unreasonable and gives worthless assignments
if the topic is good for her its not good at all
No Comments
really cares about us
if you need help you need to make an apointment, she will not help durring class
She can be wicked...not enough time for papers, I really dislike her class
treats you as if you were 5 years old
Extremely picky about topics she will accept, avoid sports topics
No Comments
you would have better luck improving your writing abilty at home, run like hell
She makes you read assignments that have nothing to do with the class.
Doesn't know good, honest writing from her habit
No Comments
Very nice lady, though she is picky and unclear
man if you see her you better run for it run for it run!!!!!!!!
Snappy, and very hard to work with
She is wicked! Very mean and very rude!
Very rude, Very Harsh, Very Unfair DO NOT GET HER!!!
Not that its a bad thing...but shes a Nun. Shes a very nice lady outside of class shes just a horrible horrible teacher. Dont take her if you can avoid it!!!!
avoid this woman... she is really tough, and not in that good encouraging teacher way... just plain mean
She is picky with topics, but very nice lady, and will help you if you ask. I recommend taking her.
You've already failed the class and you havent even begun!! RUN RUN FOR THE SAKE OF LIVING!!! RUN as fast as you can FAR awar Far AWAY from her. Do NOT TAKE HER!!! You will fail miserably!
She is horrible. She treats you like you are 5 years old. By far the worst Professor I have had during my fours years at GVSU.
Class was OK, but she was not real helpful.
She is not real clear about the assignments, but she will help anyone who sees her after class. She is probably the most helpful teacher outside of class I have ever had. She is so sweet and nice.
WORST. TEACHER. EVER.

yeah she is very unclear about what she wants and you get confused sooo easy.
yes, VERY unclear about what she wants you to do. she's strict and picky on how she wants things done too, which makes it hard for us... highly recommend NOT taking her. shes a nice lady as a person, but as a teacher....
She is mean and is very picky about everything.
She talks to you like you are five years old....and don't you even dare make amistake, IT'S NOT ALLOWED. Because we're not human to her and we can't make mistakes.
You're pretty much on your own under her. She's very thorough in grading your papers, which helps a lot. Not very nice at first. You'll feel like you're flying through the five essays.
The beginning of the semester I HATED this prof. But, I learned that she's just naturally mean and to not take it personally. Just ask her questions and go to her, she's more than willing to help and she knows what she's talking about.
Many people don't like Sister Lucia. But I feel that she knows what she is talking about. She is a good professor, and she will do all she can to make sure you have a good portfolio. Give her a chance and she will help you.
this woman does not help students at all she expects you to just know what she is talking about, and if you don't understand it, tough luck. she doesn't help with papers at all, you turn them in and then she gives them back without any idea of how you did
Class is more difficult then i thought it would be. Prof. is unclear at times which can be frustrating. She is very helpful if you ask her though. Pretty tough Prof. but i think it made me a better writer.
The Nun is evil. She is incredibly RUDE, and makes you feel like an idiot. She thinks she teaches remedial school, and even with her "religiousness" she says, "OH MY GOD!" everytime she's disappointed with your paper. DO NOT TAKE HER C
Wow. Just don't take her. She's very rude and very unclear. The format of the class made it impossible to judge what one's final score might be. Run away.
I didn't think she was very rude or mean. Sister Lucia doesn't put up with students being unattentive or disrespectful, so just be curtious and you will do fine. It was also organized since she provided an agenda at the beginning of ea. class w/ assignm
Unfortunately, I have to agree that she is very rude. I think the class is really straight forward if you attend class on the regular basis. If one can look pass the rudeness she is very helpful when meeting with her during office hours. RUDE!!!!!!!!!!
She is much better one-on-one that she is with the entire class, so go see her in her office. She doesn't really know any other format besides MLA, so if you are APA or anything else be prepared to be on your own with that.
I don't know why everyone thinks she is rude. I think she's very nice. She grades papers hard but gives you a study guide for her tests. If you master the study guide you will get an A on the tests. Well organized and well prepared. Lectures are boring.
Don't listen to anyone else, she is a fine professor. Wonderful take her.
Sister is very inteligent- evident in her teaching, which leads to her high standards. She expects alot from her students and I felt very motivated in her class. It was one of those classes that I was glad to be done with but felt a sense of accomplishm
Treanor had high standards, but I thought she was very caring and helpful. Her course wasn't ridiculously hard. If you disagree, then you should probably go back to high school and learn to write.
I hate her. She is Very RUDE! She yells all the time and she is supposed to be a nun!
I liked Sister Lucia alot. She is a difficult prof, tests are hard, but if you keep up with the reading, although most college students dont keep up with their reading. Learn from her because she has a wealth of knowledge most profs only dream about.
Moves too quickly. Papers are pushed together. You write a paper, but you learn nothing of the process or what was a good or bad thing about the paper you jsut wrote. Intimidating and has a lack of humor i've never seen before. Try very hard to avoid.

she's very short and rude. although she knows what she's talking about she doesn't like to help you and snaps when you ask a question. nuns are evil!
I haven't learned a single thing in this class
She is rude and shoots down every idea you have. She is evil but somehow she is a nun. I don't get it. Damn crazy nun!
Sister Lucia was a little intimidating at first, however she knows her stuff! People who say they don't like her are the people who don't do their work! As long as you stay on top of things and get your papers done in the time she wants, and see her if you need help, you'll do fine!
This professor is great. Yes, she can be quite intimidating sometimes, but she does know how to teach very well! This woman will beat up your writing and make it soooo good!!
Everyone who previously commented on is on a high horse.Saying go back to high school, etc.about her class?I have always aced writing through high school and if not forher class would be getting a 4.0.She is rude, biased and deaf to all with minds of their own.Liberals get weeping and nashing of teet
She seems a little scary at first, but she is a really good professor. She is knowledgeable in writing well, and she works you hard. She isn't the friendliest person, but she does care about her students. I would recommend her if you want to become a good writer.
She will start a holy war on your paper! Do not take her! My writing generally improves with tough teachers, but other tough good teachers will not critique your beliefs with your writing.
Students who were poor writers were in for an awakening. It's not her fault you started off the class with such poor skills. She demands a lot from you . . . but then, this is college - NOT highschool. Chill out.
This is a very well-informed professor who is willing to spend a great deal of time on each student's paper. She is kind and willing to listen to individual problems. Students who do not appreciate her are just not doing their work.
To those who have given this professor a good rating, you were obviously the ones on her goody list. Often times I found my ideas and those of my classmates struck down harshly and restructured into what the professor wanted. The teacher also exhibited descriminatory habits against free thinkers.
I haven't learned a thing in her class, I took it to improve my writting and she has helped at all, I am still writting the same way as when I enter her class. DON'T TAKE HER!!!!! She is really unhelpful and mean!!! GET OUT WHILE YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO GET A BETTER GRADE THAN A "C"
I'm a Writing Major and if that's you, take Sister Treanor! She is tough but is great. You can learn a lot from her. She makes students accountable. Some writers don't like that but I've found they are the most pathetic writers. They're whiners :(!! I really appreciated her honest feedback!!!:)
She's a great prof. if you know how to write. I took her in order to improve my writing skills and boy have they improved! However, she is not always helpful when she's critiquing papers and getting them back to you quickly.
She told us to take our papers to the writing center to improve our grade. the writing center told us they were good, solid papers... and she still hammered us with a C-
People **** about how hard she is or how mean she is, and yes she is demanding, but it wasn't too painful. I mean, we had to work and write hard, but it wasn't impossable. She really did try hard to make sure that we wrote well. I just wouldn't want to have to deal with her again if I could.
I think it's a good thing she rags on students because otherwise, we think we're doing great, but in reality, our essays are crummy and destined to get a D or F. I don't want someone telling me my stuff is great and then a D for the class. I want to know if it's D work ahead of time so I can fix it
This class isn't really that hard. Basically, if you want to learn how to write take her class. Look at it this way - if you take this class early, the rest of your college writing expirience will be a breeze.
Honestly, just run. Taking a class with her has caused me much frustration..it's just not worth it!!
She puts you in teams and call the teams "ships," like you're in preschool. Very boring and controlling.
I do not understand why she thinks it is fine to give a preliminary English class 300 level work. She gives out assignments that are very unreasonable to finish within the time alloted. For example, I am writing a ten page paper due in less than a week. It must have ten SEPERATE sources. This is an unfair amount of work for such a low-level class.
THE NUN. She is very unclear about what she considers an "A" paper. Boring, but I learned a lot and my writing has improved. Not recommended if you want anything higher than a B.
Sister Lucia is very strict but if you do all your work on time she will be happy with you. Personally, I hate this class but I hate writing. If you like to write you will love it, she is a good prof. to take either way though bc this class is mandatory and she will make you a better writer.
Requires a lot of work in a short amount of time. Sister Lucia is a good prof but can come off as very patronizing and overly-critical. However, she only does it to improve your writing skills. The class could use a little restructuring content wise, but toher than that, its ok.
She was extremely helpful and always her students in mind. Not only is she a great professor, she is a great person. Sister Lucia helped me survive WRT 150! I recommend her! : ]
Sister Lucia is awesome! She's so sweet and she really knows her stuff. She expects a lot of her students, which I liked. If you take her, you are pretty much guaranteed a strong portfolio if you seek her out for help. go to office hours! shes a great writer and she truly wants to see her students succeed!
She graded me based upon story content which I really feel like has nothing to do with being a good writer.
Sister Lucia clearly loves her students and teaching. If you want to have a strong portfolio, take her class. She knows how to make writing fun!
Sister Lucia Treanor is a meandering, absent-minded and hypocritical professor. This class is only good to take if you're already an advanced writer, as she doesn't explain anything or teach at all. She gives out assignments impossible to complete in the time allotted. Her expectations are insane, and completely impossible to understand.
Horrible, horrible prof. I cannot stress this enough. think of all of the unfortunate stereotypes that a nun possess...THAT'S HER. i hate stereotyping a group of people, but hey, if the shoe fits....
If you do your work, you'll have no problem. She really helps correct papers, and you just fix her corrections and turn it in. She knows what the portfolio committee is looking for which gives her students an advantage.
Very good prof. I learned a lot and developed as a writer along the way. You DO need to seek her out for additional help. Be sure to start work on your paper BEFORE the majority of the class works on the next assignment. Attendance is mandatory, but that is not her rule,it's a part of the Writing Department's regime. I strongly recommend her.
Shes ok... its a pretty boring class and when she goes on and on about everyones paper its awful. It is clear that she cares about her students, though.. she is a nun afterall
She is very knowledgable in writing and helped me make my portfolio even stronger than I would've on my own. The only thing that annoyed me about her was that most of the time she treated us like we were in Junior High and there seemed to be a lack of respect towards her students. But honestly, she made me into a better writer. It's worth it.
Sister Lucia is an okay professor. She knows her stuff when she comes to writing, but she is very unclear when explaining what you are supposed to do. Also, she is not afraid to say that you are at a high school writing level. I couldn't stand her, but the class wasn't too bad I guess.
Very boring and gets on your nervessssssssss really fast. assigns pointless readings and goes over every individual paper outloud wasting an hour of time you could be typing. no lab time to type. high school stuff. but do the papers and get help and youll do ok
She is very helpful and expects a lot out of her students. Very picky about topic choice. she actually made me cry after throwing out 12 topic ideas for paper. overall shes cool. Read the assignments cause she will ask you questions abot it.
Sister Lucia is a tough professor but she will make you a better writer in the end. She has all the qualities of a nun (since she is one) with a degree to teach English. She really knows what she's doing and will be straight forward if your paper sucks. However she says it in a more intellectual way like, "Please take this to the Writing Center."
Caution: WRT150 can be an easy course. It is not with this professor. I don't know how I got an A, because she says she only gives like two a semester. She hated me the whole semester for writing a story portraying my father in a negative light. I guess she and the writing board could not deny my skillz and no you wont learn them from her.
assigns useless exercises every week, old and senile, hypocritical, closed-minded, judgmental, picks favorites, awful prof. worst I have had in my 4 years at GV without a doubt.
I LOVE Sister Lucia. She's sweet and funny and I still visit with her (and she's one of the few profs I do). She's really helpful and knowledgeable, and I learned so much from this course (take WRT 305, it is great for fine-tuning your writing abilities). Highly recommend!
She was amazing, extremely helpful and clear in what she wanted. She did assign a lot of work but it all helped me and she was more than helpful when it came time to submit portfolio's. She kept us all on track, it was hard but she was a great teacher
She is such a cute little teacher. Everyone says she is really tough, but she is actually very understanding and helpful. She is very knowledgeable and beautiful.
After reading a lot of these ratings, I was freaked out. But Sister Lucia is such a great teacher! She tries her best to make the class interesting, gives prompt feedback to your papers, and is willing to meet with you outside of class as well. She's so nice, and overall a great teacher!
A lot of people in my class really hated her, but I didn't. She's a tough teacher, but only because she wants you to work hard enough to get a good grade. (Especially since she isn't the one grading the portfolio.) It mostly depends on attitude. You put the effort in, and you'll get a good grade.
Sister Lucia is an amazing teacher. Many say she is tough, but that helps you get a good grade in the class because she doesn't grade your portfolio. She sometimes was a little unclear, but all you have to do is is ask her to clarify and she will. She has a good sense of humor for a nun. Would recommend her to anyone wishing to take WRT 150 at GV
Everyone on this page who talked bad about Sister Lucia didn't put anything into the class. Sister is a very sweet, patience woman who is tough but very concise. She is incredibly helpful to those who are willing to ask for it. Her class uses Lecture Tools, which I found to be an awesome program. Work hard, and you will do well in this course!
Although tough, Sister Lucia does truly want you to get a good grade. You write a lot of papers in a short amount of time which seems awful, but left you so much time to perfect them and make them portfolio ready.
Sister Lucia is strict and not clear at all on what she expects for papers. You write one paper right after the other and no time between. Her lectures are boring and pretty pointless but attendance is mandatory. The audio clips she sends you for feedback on papers are creepy and not overly helpful. Good luck getting an A, its pretty impossible.
The class felt like a waste of time, I could have done everything from my dorm using lecture tools and gaillardia. I hated that she made us have to pay to use her lecture tools site, Absolutely ridiculous. If I knew before, I would have picked a different professor.
I loved Sister Lucia. Yes, she's strict and old-school, but that's how you succeed in her class. If you just do what she says, you'll be fine. Meeting with her outside of class is especially beneficial to your papers. She really wants you to succeed, but won't spoon feed you anything. She even offers to review other papers for other classes.
At first it was very hard and frustrating. There was essay after essay, and there's not much time to do things. I had trouble finding a research topic, and she never helped me out with that. I ended up turning my research paper in late and she wouldn't give me feedback. She's not too helpful and her lectures don't help much.
She was hard at first but she is really helpful if you ask her. She also expects a lot out you but she pushes.
I like this class so far. Sister Treanor has not upset me in any way, nor do I think her writing assignments are stressful or ridiculous. The reviews (through recordings) she gives on our papers are very helpful, and the one thing I would change is the excessive use of evry other website imaginable for the class except Blackboard.
Sister Lucia's assignments aren't ridiculous, and she gives very good feedback when grading papers. However, listening to her lecture is one of the most boring things in the universe and she's hardly any help in picking a topic for the research paper. Overall, not bad, but I wish I had taken a different prof (especially not at 8am).
I didn't enjoy this class very much. Her directions were quite unclear. During the research paper, she didn't help much on choosing a topic, which was the hardest for me. It made me fall behind and since my rough draft was late she refused to correct it. I like writing, but it's difficult if you don't have help. When she does help it's great though
I really liked her as a professor. She was a little rude sometimes but she knew how to give good comments on student's papers and prepare them for their portfolio.
This course was great. I expected to learn how to write well, and I did. The professor only assigned three papers, which was enough for one semester. I was well prepared to submit my portfolio.
Sister Lucia is a very tough, but vague teacher. She is extremely nice outside of the class but very stubborn in class. She does not explain her assignments well. Her lectures are extremely long. She does care a lot about her students though. I would try to find a different teach if at all possible, but if you are stuck with her, it will be okay.
Sister Lucia really knows writing and is always willing to share her knowledge with her students. I found her lectures to be a little boring because she mainly read right off of slides. She is part of the portfolio committee and is always sharing insight from other profs in the committee as well.
I think Sister Lucia is a good teacher. As long as you are present and stay on track with the class, you will do fine.
Sister Lucia was my freshman writing 150 professor and I was not disappointed. She gave good feedback to those who asked and she loves to help if it's asked for.
Sister Lucia is so cute. Very nice. Every class she has powerpoints that you don't need to pay attention to. She wants you to bring your laptop to every class. Makes you sign up for 4 different websites for readings, submissions, and lectures. Takes attendance and can't skip more than 3 classes. Gives good feedback on your papers. Prepare to write.
Sister Lucia is a very sweet woman. She made the writing process better for me as a student who doesn't enjoy writing. On the other hand, lectures are extremely long. As far as grading, your grade is made solely on your portfolio. The portfolio of 3 papers goes to council of 3 professors to be graded, so their is no bias in the grading process.
Sister Lucia is very nice but can be intimidating. The classes are very long but boring. She cares about her students and really does want you to succeed. The one thing about her that I didn't like was she was very hard to confront about a question and would give you a hard time if she already went over it.
Sister Lucia is a very sweet lady with a strong personality. She overall really cares about her students. The writing committee however, is made up of VERY tough graders and you never hear feedback on your final papers unless you fail. I also wish Sister Lucia would provide better feedback on drafts to allow us to achieve better grades in the end.
Very closed minded. Never knows what shes doing, wastes time reading entire papers out loud in class that we could read on our own. She has called me out in front of the class twice. Once for eating a quiet snack and another for looking at a diagram for bio while waiting for my computer and proceeded to stand over my shoulder the rest of class.
Sister Lucia is a very nice professor. Although she seems intimidating, she is very approachable and will really help you with your papers. My advice for WRT 150 is go to the writing center.
Sister Lucia was a great professor, don't understand why people don't like her. She is very helpful and takes a lot of time to help her students. She wants you to succeed and have a great portfolio. My tip to survive WRT 150 is the writing center. Without it, you will likely fail on the portfolio. Enjoy WRT 150 everyone, It was a terrible class.
Sister Lucia is a sweet and caring. As long as you work hard you can get an A. The final grading depends on the writing department (2 professors other than sister Lucia will grade your papers as required by WRT 150). Sister Lucia will make sure you have good paper as long as you work hard and reach out to her.
If you dont do it her way she will count it as the wrong way.
Great professor. Take her if you can
She's inconsistent, some days she is nice and others she is yelling and mean. She completely disallows certain topics for papers if she doesn't like them. She is also a Catholic nun which is not posted anywhere during registration. Acts a lot like this is high school.
Overall, WRT150 is a horrible class no matter who your professor is, but I really like Sister Lucia. She is very sweet & wants the best for her students. You don't receive a grade until your portfolio in which she & two other professors grade three of your papers. Also, this class feels like it's paper after paper after paper. Good luck everyone!
Sister Lucia is a really caring professor. She'll like you and you'll do well in her class as long as you pay attention, participate, and aren't one of the usual bratty teenagers-aka. if you're respectful. Many people complain about her strict attendance rules and such, however, those are the department rules not hers. She is very caring.
instructions were very unclear. she was hard to work with. she didn't like any students. gives no time to write quality papers and grades very hard.
Lucia's feedback was unhelpful, and even when following all of her instructions, it's very difficult to pass. Also, due to the fact that she's a nun, she tends to limit the topics you can choose for your papers. (ex. She wouldn't let me write about gay rights.) In addition, there are very few activities aside from the main papers of the class.
She is very back and forth. One day she is very nice the other rude and unapproachable. She is a very hard grader and makes you write longer papers than the other WRT 150 Professors. She also gives you less time to do them. She makes the criteria very hard to achieve. Overall writing 150 is hard no matter who you have and the class sucks.
wrote my first paper on a lgbt topic and she clearly didn't like me for the rest of the semester. gvsu should really include the SISTER in her name when signing up for classes so anyone that's not catholic can avoid her.
Had her for writing 150 winter 2017 and class was downtown. Had a class like 45 mins later in Allendale, so I'd have to be quick getting back. I was doing my usual 70 mph down Lake Michigan when this little red car comes flying up behind me. I look over as it passes, and it's Sister Lucia doing at least 90. Only memory I have of the class.
