Best math teacher I ever had in my life.

He goes out of his way to make u understand.He is very funny, but he takes his work seriously. You will have to do alot of homework,the exam questions come from the homework. Another thing, he will call on u in class, because he truly wants u to learn,dont think he's picking on u,not an easy A, u have to earn it. Great professor, fair

Overall he is a good professor. He assigns an extreme amount of homework; which had me a bit annoyed. His tests are based on class notes and hws. Attendance is also very important not to be lost with the material. He is very knowledgable, but sometimes has smart remarks to questions asked in class. Freak on cheating; he checks calculators!

Overall he is a great professor and a fair grader. He genuinely wants you to do good and makes sure you understand the material before moving on. My advice is to do the hw, which is a lot, but it helps when it comes to the exams. Be prepared for pop quizzes and learn how to manage your time during exam and you will do just fine. I got an A!

The class is challenging if you make it to be. The professor was crystal clear about the subject he was teaching. The structures of his explanation made everyone able to understand and able to tackle the questions. I highly recommend this professor because if you think you're bad in math, he'll change that though of yours.

to be honest i never liked math, but after having mr. M for two semesters for 110 and 120,i have learned to see math from a different point of view. i would definitely recommend him. his very helpful, and patience and that's always a plus,just make sure you do hw and study his study's sheet before the test and you'll do just fine. oh also no phones

This Prof. Was one of the best prof. I had in QCC, gives a lot of hw but every one who is taking math has to do hw to keepup. I did all my hw and it realy help me to inderstand the class. Mr. Makalanda is an exceptional professor who will teach you everything you need to know for his exams. He will also go over all the materials you do not know. If you can stay motivated and study, you will without a doubt receive that top grade. He really is one of the best teachers I have taken for a math class which was Statistics.

This class went by pretty quickly since it was the winter session. You have to study everyday for at least 4-6 hrs. Honestly if the professor did not have a professionl attire and a pleasant facial appearance, I dont think I would have been motivated enough to try and impress him. His standards and expectations were high.

The professor was strict and detail oriented, something I liked as it made me try harder. I took this over the winter course so the workload was tough but I realized the lack of time made me work harder and not procrastinate. Overall an amazing man and professor, always willing to help and listen to your concerns. I enjoyed statistics.. a lot!

Professor Makalanda is a great instructor.I took his class during my first semester at QCC. It was a wonderful experience. I did my HW assignments, put problems on board, attended every class and did my exam with speed. And I get an A.I would strongly recommend him as professor.

TAKE HIS CLASS ! I had him for intro statistic during summer 2 and omg! hes great !! he really cares about whether you pass his class or not. we had 3 exams he dropped lowest grade and for the final it was 10 questions and we got to pick the 8 we wanted to answer. DO ALL HOMEWORK and go on the board. he gives extra points on the test if you do.

When you take Professor Lucian Makalanda's Math class, you would feel Math is so easy for you. He is a amazing professor.

I take his statistic class at Fall 14. he explains everything very clearly. He gives 3 projects and exams, and will drop the lowest one. I am ESL student, but I get A. So if you take his class, you should pass also. Statistic is not easy to study ,but he makes it easy and interesting.

He;s a good professor my problem with him was his test there wasn't enough time to finish them, I granted if I did finish then I would have gotten an A-, he wants homework to be done, you HAVE to write a sentence after each part of his problem on test or hell take points. He would show a problem one or twice on the board then you would have test

The prof gave many exams and quizzes and dropped the lowest. He was simply one of the best prof I have taken in QCC. had to work hard for my grade but would not hesitate to take another class of his. Attendance, and how was a must and oh, no text in class.

He is a good professor. Must study to pass, unless math just comes easy to you. Must do the homeworks and projects, counts towards you total grade on each test. There are quizzes the following class after finishing each chapter. Study and stay focused and you should get an A. He is very willing to help anybody who is struggling.

Would love to take his class again especially since he uses a MathXL, an online program which I found to be extremely helpful and useful. You'll have to work for your grade, no freebies, as long as you pay attention, do your homework, and review before exams you'll be fine.

The homework is very important, likewise, the class attendance. The exams are graded not too harsh, but you need to study the problems, and do all three projects. Drops lowest exam grade, lowest project grade. Funny lectures. Nice professor, makes you work!

Always goes over the work we don't understand

He is very kind and a bit goofy, which makes the class interesting. The tests/quizzes are 5-10 questions for chapters combined, which makes it even more difficult to pass. He teaches well but grades very hard. The tests are very intense. I would recommend him if you are willing to devote a lot of time into this class. Good luck.

He's the best professor

Took MA114 over the summer. As it was a summer class it was accelerated, each class in the summer is the equivalent of 2-3 normal classes. Material was explained very well, and he was extremely helpful. I really wish that I could have him as prof for MA-128 during regular semester. Do your homework, it really helps.

I took Professor Makalanda for MA10 and he was beyond amazing! Very patient in teaching the step by step of a problem to getting your answer & doesn't mind repeating, which in math is key. He also has a great sense of humor which is something to look forward to. Would highly recommend anyone to him with this course or any math course he may teach.

I took Professor Makalanda for MA10 back in the Spring 2015 semester and I can safely say that the man is an excellent teacher. He has a tendency to talk fast, but he'll slow down provided that you actually raise your hand and ask him to clarify stuff. Passed the CUNY maths exam at the end of the semester, so that was awesome 10/10 would take again

If you are a hardworking student Prof. Makalanda is definitely your best choice. if you do your homework, he will add 15 points to the grades of the exams. He will give you review sheets before the exams. I have to agree with many comments here because the homework and exams are intense. As long as you do your job, however, you're fine. Easy A

If your want to lean whatever math class professor Makalanda is teaching you better be prepared to do work in class as well as at home. I took MA 119 in spring 2013, I started off slow with a 73 in my first exam and a 0 of 5 1 quiz. I thought I knew it all. I would end up with an -A in the course because I busted my ass. U get out what you put in.

Great professor! He actually cares about his students, u have to show him that you care. If u ask question he will take his time and review it. His exams come from the review sheet and your notes. His quizzes are from homework. His exams are easy if u study. I took this in the winter, therefore it was a lot of work and packed material, but I good.

This guy is great. I should have failed his class but he gave myself and others so many chances to make up tests and quizzes. He even used points from homework to add to the tests. He doesnt want anyone to fail. You gotta work hard and show him you are trying.

Took for ma10 , this prof. Really cares and will continue going over and over the material if you don't understand. He's hilarious bc he thinks his jokes are funny, but they're usually not. That's what makes it so funny and if you're falling behind he will tell you before it's too late so you don't end up failing and you're able to get it together.

I love how Profesor Makalanda teach, yea there are lots of homework BUT its practice for your own good because guess what? In the end, you will have to take a final and with all the "homework" he provides, (which is actually practice) it would be so much easier for you to take the exam with no problems. Don't be lazy.

Honestly he took the time to ask if any students have questions and if they were still confused he would stop to review what the student did not understand. There is a lot of homework. Man, I encourage you guys not to take ma336 for winter if you suck at math. It was the most brutal thing ever. But I cannot blame the professor for doing his job. He is an amazing proffesor. Yes there is a lot of homework but it is for your own good.

Hes a really kind professor who makes a lot of corny jokes. Essentially all of the hw was done on lumenohm which is free so no textbook is necessary. He looks out for you if he sees that you aren't doing all too well, just do the hw consistently and remember the formulas and you'll do fine.

Professor Makalanda is super helpful and a great professor. Coming from someone who is terrible at math and had to take stats over the winter, he made it easier to understand. Winter courses are short so there was a LOT of homework, but in the end it helps you. Tests were exactly like the homeworks and gives points here and there. Dont skip class!!

In the beginning I thought that I wouldn't do well but later on I passed. Professor Makalanda is somewhat funny and gives a lot of extra credit to rise up your grades. You have to study your quiz and exam notes to pass easily. He doesn't mind reexplaining the basics if you don't understand and he is very loving.

this professor really listens to you and makes sure to take notes. you have to open the video while taking quizzes and you do have to submit your work for the quiz on the blackboard. overall he was okay.

He teaches you while seeing the textbook. Attendance is mandatory. there are labs to do he does lab in 1-hour class and only covers what he can during those times. there are quizzes and exams too.

On the first day of class, Professor Makalanda introduced a free online textbook which included everything so we wouldn't have to pay. Homework is hefty, but considering I took this course in the summer (4 1/2 weeks), and serves as studying, it's very useful. Professor completely reviews any hw questions and is very coherent in explaining material.

this professor seemed very strict at first,but when you get into the class hes actually very nice. for our zoom sessions he would make us put our cameras on which was a bit annoying but worked out well. he is very willing and caring as long as he sees effort. no phones, no distractions and you will be fine

It was an intense 3 weeks of statistics with overloaded homework and LOTS to study. The prof will gladly go over any questions you have. Participation is a must and have your cameras on every session. I busted my s for my grade. Be there on time, ask questions, go to tutoring if needed. I would take his class anyday and highly recommend.

Professor Makalanda is a very good professor. One of my favorite professors in QCC. I had him as a freshman and he raised my expectations for college. Be prepared to learn in his class and always attend all your classes for you to pass his class. He is very understanding and helps you with all your questions without complaining.

I'm only saying difficult because it's math. However, he does give a lot of makeup work; you can correct what you did wrong on a test/quiz and he will give you half the missed points. But, as this is math, you will have to do a lot of work.

I took professor Makalanda's MA119 course during the 2025 winter term. He is very fair with grading, responsive with feedback, and is very helpful if you don't understand material. He made the material very simple to grasp, added a few jokes, and made the classes go by so fast.

Best Professor ever. I have him currently for my Pre-Calculus class and let me tell you, he will make you want to do math forever. I love conversing with him after class, especially about the lecture. take this professor seriously, he is one of the only people who will give you more than a second chance
